Should we should get a collection and we we know rich people like people that work at axios. I think we should just pass the cap around this morning. Everybody throw in a couple of dollars and we should by the pittsburgh pirates. Go over there. And maybe get a couple of little league coaches and teach them how to show in south american coach them. "Music means. We've always got Mike Allen ause kills it on actually AM though. It has not yet hit my mailbox. I'm looking for it. But it's Monday good morning. Mike gallon. Always a pleasure to begin my week. With the Mondays with Mike is a highlight of our week. Oh, well, thank you. And mine too. I'm coming to you from the best coast Portland. Oregon all four of the Allen siblings. We have four kids in four years. All four were together yesterday with mom, Barbara terrific. What a great way to spend mother's day. We we had a great mother's day yesterday with all of the fetchy. Mrs Hewitt children gathered around and of course, who at the CD avengers. Did you take him on the vendors? Probably a good idea. I didn't. I think what the last people in America, perhaps not to see that our two minute epic. Well, the wife and the moms did not go to the movie to be true. They actually went shopping, but we had a great meal, and then we went our separate ways. Mike, I wanna talk to about a call. I've gotten the Washington Post this morning about the the subpoena of Donald Trump junior. I have supported the special counsel throughout I didn't want him fired or molested her impeded. Anyway, get to the bottom of it. I've been a big Muller supporter. A big big. Mark Warner supporter. I thought I believe him when he said it's most important work of his life. I think Richard Burr supporter, but this subpoena just broke my back. I just think oh my gosh. This is a bridge too far. And you know, what about seventy five to eighty percent of the people on talking with strongly agree with me? What are you here? Well, you this was surprising to the president and others that it came from a. Publican committee, which bird of North Carolina. Thorugh of North Carolina chairman of that committee story that actually Jonathan swan broke came a couple of weeks ago, then Mitch McConnell went out and said that this was closed on the more investigation and yet here Republicans with the subpoena. Don, jR, now to look at what happened next and the old. He'll headline you'll never believe what happened next. This will fascinate your listeners. So that done do your team moved in an operation that very quickly sentiments to Republicans if you're gonna come to die for non or we're gonna come for you. Our base is gonna come for you. You know, Hugh, how rare it is for any Senator to criticize another Senator any party really very rare to criticize another center of the same party. Even rare to criticize chairman, and yet there were six Senate Republicans saying various ways that they thought this move by Richard Burr was a mistake. It is it is a huge mistake because well, I tried to explain it to a very influential member of the GOP elite that they don't seem to understand how weary people are like me who have stood in in the middle saying, let Muller do his work. And then it just seems like like he reignited the show, and I'm told my reporting, Mike, I don't know if Jonathan's reporting this way, or if your reporting is this way from within the Senate at that. This is a staff driven exercise in frustration that they've been out lawyer they failed to dictate terms. Clearly and done junior is not accepting their reinterpretation of the terms. What do you report on the Jonathan agree with me? Before Jonathan, but I will tell you. What is forty shows is that Don will not saw this three options. His team tells me and that is one he can just say go ahead contempt to the possibility. He would pick in writing. I don't look for him to do that thirds. You be smart. The most likely option is some sort of compromise. Perhaps we're done junior interest questions. Right. That they can cancel the subpoenaed questions. That's that. You can always do that subpoena is the course of power the government. And so from the Senate, right perspective. Senator Bernie get out of this box canyon in a hurry. Let's turn to the presidential race. It was kind of a quiet weekend because it was mother's day weekend. But boy is Joe Biden under withering crossfire. If I want to play for you, something that was set on faith. The nation yesterday. Margaret Brennan talking to Robert Gates. I think it was yesterday. It might have been earlier today was earlier when Robert Gates on his book toward surface yesterday. Cut number one, Robert Gates and Margaret Brennan still I think he's been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue of the past four.

"For the patriot mobile pundit of the week. It's the Inza report with Selena Zito follower at Selena Zito. You ought to her great Washington Examiner column posted seven hours ago, which I'm going to try and and post for you. And it says very very simply nobody after Muller. Nobody has changed their mind on Trump, Selena good morning. Happy Easter day after have a good Easter day yesterday. I had a Reverend Easter happy Easter you could you have a good one. We did family and friends gathered we had a magnificent time at church time fellowship, and then we rolled a rock because if you got eight people around you had enough people to roll the rug Selena, though, it was darkened as our pastor referred to it by a week that was extremely began with people happy with Tiger Woods. But then the Miller report, then you had this relucant bombings, then you had all sorts of other stuff going on at the end of it. He says we're always back where we start every day where they're going to choose to believe or not to believe. But about the Muller reports that an interesting thing he said, there are three types of people those who thinking exonerate the president thinking convict the president. And those those are people who don't change their mind at all. And everyone's exhausted agree or disagree completely completely agree. He he failed. It I said this before I said in the column not much since November sixteen be woke up, and you are happy that he. President Trump the candidate Trump became credit was going to come President Trump. You are optimism about the future. You didn't go in with your, you know, blinders on you understood. Thought that this was who you wanted in there to sort of thing. Things around in the swamp. Drain the swamp. If you will if you didn't like him, your hair's still on fire, and there's nothing that's going to extinguish it. Let's he's off with with handcuffs and not much has changed. No. I don't think anything changed actually. And I do think that the Democrats I've I've used this before you the five stages of grieving begin with anger denial. Anger bargaining denial bargaining depression acceptance, and they're all at different places along the way, but they're all going to get to acceptance, and I just asked Mike gallon if a week in a month from now, he thinks he'll be the mother report will be an access AM. What do you think Selena? You might be right. I I didn't even think about that. I I don't know. What cure what ails us anything within the next five years? Whether he is or is not president. We are in such a, and I wouldn't say precedent it because we don't actually know how people felt on a day to day minute by minute basis that the way that we today during other crisis or disturbances within our our system of. But we sure are not an enviable place in terms of being able to have to come together on certain points. But also be able to have a discussion about the things we agree on get Marcus down for twenty two. If President Trump were to lose reelection. He would run again in twenty twenty four so. You know, any would lurk around. But I'm not wrong. Reagan go forever. And the fact is he going to keep tweeting after the presidency, and so they're going to be. But I don't think anyone I don't think he's lost any support that you know, the grass mustn't or gallop hasn't down to thirty seven percent. Give me a potent. Now have a real race. If Ponant is Bernie as I suspect it's likely to be that's going to be wild. But he's going to win. It's going to be there. I think I've said this before I think the only person could possibly give him to run for the money in total college would be Joe Biden. And I honestly don't think that you're going to get through the primary process because he's not going to get through the wo- crowd. And well people like mayor Pete or late nights in there. They have a great way speaking on issues way too far with if for places like Michigan and in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa on on the green deal, but also on the search on. That's your voice. Yes. And that's going to be a major issue and all this Selena. Thank you so much have a great week, salena. Zito patriot mobile pundit of the week. Remember, if you are not yet a subscriber to patriot mobile, you're not part of the revolution. And I need to be part of the revolution. "The battle for our better angels and Eugene Robinson Pulitzer prize winning columnist for the Washington Post, gentlemen. Thank you both for showing up on a Thursday night. John as we talk I'm going to just put on the air, a list of events and leads all of it leads to potential legal jeopardy for this president. It looks like the credits at the end of a major motion picture and while it rolls. I'm going to ask you in all seriousness. What are we witnessing here? Well, we're witnessing history being made. I honestly believe that Mike gallon Jim Vanda, high our friends asked me about whether I thought where I bought this ranked in terms of scandals, and I really don't believe scandal is a word that's commensurate with what we're talking about. I think it's a slow moving unfolding crisis of our institutions. It is a it's a constitutional crisis in the sense that we may have a president who is in thrall to a foreign power. And that is something that in the seventeen eighty and seventeen ninety s was very much top of mind for the framers of the government. Because of course, they were inventing a government. There were foreign powers that were interested in other reclaiming what they had in terms of Great Britain or expanding their influence in the new world in terms of France and terms of Spain. So it was clearly a a central issue. For the people who set us on this journey toward a more perfect union. And I except for that conversation, except for the fact that Jefferson thought Hamilton might be an agent and the ferocious partisanship of that first party era except for that. I don't really see anything, particularly parallel. And I think it's bigger than a scandal. And I think that that's why whatever director Muller comes back with is going to be really really essential defining. How we put ourselves back together after this era. It does make teapot dome. Look like a pimple. Hey, you, gene. We like our historians to ponder. But unlike them as a news guy, you have the terror of the approaching column deadline constantly. So I ask you as a news guy. What you made of this sentencing today, and whether you see the bottom line as a bigger headline in that is oh, by the way, the president's campaign chairman is going to the big house. Yeah. I think that's the that's the. The important thing that happened today. You step back. And that is a he that's like huge major thing. I mean, you imagine just that alone happening take away everything else. Crazy that's been and illegal. That's happened under the Trump administration. Just that one thing happening an enormous deal yet it surrounded by all this other stuff. So, you know, the sentencing today, we give federal judges discretion. I actually believe we probably ought to give them more discretion than we have recently with Benneteau remitting than sentencing. And that means we won't always liked the way they use that discretion judge Ellis. Never liked this case in the first place. He just didn't like it. He was seeing angry at the prosecutors for using his courtroom in a way that he didn't like to squeeze Manafort to get to Trump. That's how he saw it from the beginning. Clearly, you made no secret of that. So I don't think it was a great surprise that. He gave. Lenient sentence. Maybe not this lenient. But no, great surprise, John. I never thought we would be a wistful for all Warren Harding. But this era makes him look a lot more like Thomas Jefferson, and you name John a single individual who's come into this orbit and had their reputation burnished by it. No, I it's Nikki Haley is kind of like Indiana Jones running in front of the boulder at the beginning of the wall..

"Like that's the kind of thing we feel like don't give great. I'm good without you your help. I'm good with with your help, but we didn't. We. We didn't cultivate that access journalism. And yet we got a lot of access, which which I think having worked at the Wall Street Journal, it was all about access like we're going to give it to you. I as an exclusive. I kind of hated that. I like I, I don't mind it, but I'm like one of my leaving when it comes with strings attached. Right. It always does. And you also, you mentioned this on the Ezra Klein podcast, but your strategy is already know everything that's going on and then go talk to them and they have to tell you, yes, or they think you do like there's a whole thing off. Okay. I always know everything going on, but sometimes I don't know, actually do these days. It's really kinda sad. I'd forgotten things like I literally have a list of tips. People have told me that I've forgotten about. There's a really good tip on Facebook that I literally am waiting for Kurt Wagner to get back from his honeymoon because I know no one will get it like, I'm just just sitting there, but I would have been in the old days, typed it right up, shoved it out there, but you don't things have changed in that way. The the stuff we pioneered everybody else copied or and we copied from other people, etc. Etc. But everyone interrelated on a little bit of our model and you know, BuzzFeed has a similar tone. Everybody's done a lot of the stuff we didn't now just because during these long stories, which people are now iterating on her innovations. So so I think people have caught up to a lot of our tricks. Who reminds you today of the pioneering you back then that was breaking all the rules. You just go little bit, but she's doing a different thing. So she's this long stories, and I I, you know, some would axios is doing kind of, but I think it's, I think it's for me. Eck and I think you'll get tired after a while. I think that one's gonna exhaust you, although certain, like I like Mike gallon, I like some of the newsletters. Got Casey. Newton has a newsletter called the interface that I love recently. I thought he was. I just I, I've always like tried to bug him about access journalism, but this thing is great. It's totally insightful and useful. Would I'm interested in is journalists who make products that people find useful and helpful to their lives and or funny or insightful and whatever format it takes care. Like same thing with podcast, we started this four or five years ago, four years ago. Hold on. All right. Okay. We just decided we just decide to do things, and that's the environment I want to be in. Like I just now I'm going to do this like too bad. Same thing with the New York Times go, I'm going to do it like, did I think about that? I worked for vox sure, but I don't care like I have a plan like why I'm doing it. So for folks that haven't checked it out, I think a few amazing op EDS. Yeah, have to wait times a week. Now there's about five now going to have to this week on Trump mouthing off on Chris, you know about Twitter and Silicon Valley. God house. So it's fair to him. Every we're well, we're gonna actually, but the mooch. Yeah. It was great in it was so great. Well, here's a good example of that. So everyone's like, oh, you Kennedy him. I'm like, why not? Sure I can. So I what I what I like. I think that's what I like. I'm having a big fight today on Twitter about Bannon, but like you can't interview up. I'm like, yeah, I can't. No, you can't. Well, I'm going to so whatever. Like I get your problems with them, but I'm gonna still interview them, but what was interesting told us about you, but you can't interviewer what can't weekend. Yes, you can like whatever she'll swear on your show. Right. Exactly. So is by the way that's why we like, oh, come on. You don't want to hear. Is there a clean? No one's listening on Tim cook ain't listening. And by the way he did a great interview with me recently on MSNBC, but what was I talking?.

"Let's talk about some more politics if you more highlights from yesterday's primaries in four states in Wisconsin, democrat, Tony, Evers one forty one percent of the vote in a crowded, eight way primary for governor. The state school superintendent now up against Republican governor, Scott Walker who seeking a third term in Connecticut, two thousand six US Senate nominee Ned Lamont claim the democratic nomination for governor. This as Republicans nominated, Bob Stefanski former g. e. executive who was a registered democrat shortly before announcing his bid as a Republican and history was made last night as democratic candidate for Vermont, Governor Christine hall quits, became the first transgender nominee of a major political party. She will take on incumbent Republican governor, Phil, Scott. Meanwhile, Minnesota democrat Ilhan Omar when the democratic primary for Minneapolis, how seat which means the first two Muslim women now likely to join. Congress this fall. So Mike, what was your big takeaway last night? Big picture or big takeaway is the Blue Wave is a rainbow wave. Like we've seen an unbelievably consistent story through these primaries and that is a cat for is building there. Two of the Democrats that again, and again, we see strong candidates winning these private. So start with women hundred ninety. Nine women are now nominees just for house and something that actually says Alexi McKinnon points out is we now know that at least five women are going to replace men that regardless of what happens in the general election, we're going to have five women take men's seed. So Washington is going to look a lot different and the story that we just saw there the rainbow wave four LGBT candidates. Now nominee for governor the Washington blade pointing out last night that LGBT least. One of each of those now is a nominee. And so another place that this Blue Wave is becoming a very diverse one as well. We've heard about the year of the woman for so many years. It seems every two years somebody else claims. This is the year of the woman. I really, I mean, he look at all of the results and you've got to believe that just like nineteen seventy four, Richard Nixon, and Watergate led to a class of Democrats that control the American politics for the next twenty years. You get a look at this this class that may be coming in. If it continues away, does in two thousand eighteen does become the year the bonafide year of the woman. You could actually have Donald Trump's election in two thousand sixteen leading to a huge win for women across America and reshaping American politics for years to come Mike gallon. Thank you so much. We appreciate it. Jonathan Turley. Thank you as well. We're going to be reading your latest column in the hill. Donates. Now, New York Times bestselling author, Craig Unger. His new book is titled house of Trump house of Putin. The untold story of Donald Trump and the Russian mafia inequality paints a picture of Donald Trump as a Russian asset unraveling ties spanning four decades, including relationships with dozens of people who have alleged connections to the Russian mafia. Also with us, former assistant United States Turney in the southern district of New York. Mimi Rocca. She's a distinguished fellow in criminal Justice at pay school of law and MSNBC legal analyst and somebody with a little experience and what we're about to talk about to see you both crack. Thanks for being here. Congratulations on the book is set the timeframe where we're talking about here. How far back do you go with Donald Trump and his business ties go back nearly forty years. What I see is essentially the greatest intelligence operation of our time. And it starts off in nineteen Eighty-four with a man named David bogut and who has ties to the Russian mafia, and he meets with Donald Trump in Toronto, which is new. Early opened and sort of this glamorous. It's the supreme moment of Donald Trump coming master of real estate and in the United States. And what we end up seeing is Trump Tower become sort of cathedral of money laundering. David Bogan and meets with Donald Trump. He has no apparent job and he says, you can buy five condos, he six million dollars in casts equivalent of about fifteen million dollars today. And that sets off a pattern that goes on for the next thirty years or so in which over thirteen hundred condos are sold in what appears to be money laundering. By that. I mean at triggers. They have two characteristics. One is these are all cash. Purchases to is there through shell companies..

"The times when it is impossible to dissect what the president of the united states is saying because to borrow his language it just sounds so stupid and that story and the major newspaper that he mentioned is there as a column in the new york post about one anecdote which he is then using to make this larger point but as been discussed here at the table you know he's at least making the argument about canada and sort of framing it in this flawed as it is economic terms and he does it differently when it's with mexico it does have a hard much harder edge to it and i'd like to pair the comments we heard him say yesterday and that meeting at the white house with his remarks from the rally in minnesota a couple nights ago where he invoked his kickoff speech at trump tower which was three years ago this week in which he said that mexico is not sending their best he brought that back in that rally in duluth which the executive order that he signed this week to aversive self was mentioned once in that speech it's something that he clearly tried to gloss over try to move passed and then spent minutes after minutes with thunderous rhetoric talking about how hard line he is still on immigration as if he was still trying to prove himself to the crowd this is who i still am this is still identity this is why you elected me this is why i've been saying this is a good issue for republicans this fall as poorly as poles but that's what his instinct is saying he doesn't have adviser around him to steer him otherwise that this is still who he is he gets it's a rare reversal for this president toback down on anything particular with immigration we saw this week not for a moral reason but because the pr was so bad the optics were so overwhelming he had no choice but in his heart his seriousness of his policies his immigration it is this it is hawk it is this hard line rhetoric and it's not going away and that crowded minnesota aided up so emmy just wondering i mean we know about some of these people but donald trump mike pence kristin nilsson jeff sessions ivanka trump and obviously stephen miller i how they'd be remembered as anything but the people who put forward unamerican cruel policy that was abusive to small children i mean i think that overall this is a white house that is still i think lead in focused on donald trump's version of a policy in donald trump's version of immigration so all of these people i think do have their own beliefs in this in this policy and an idea that president trump puts forward but i think it's clear that the president there was someone that said this president kind of now reigniting what he said when he kicked off his campaign i venture to say that he never let that go that he is always governed that way he's always talk that way he's always surround himself with people that believe that there's a lot of talk about influence of stephen miller and see ben and but they weren't thinning next to him when he launched his campaign calling mexicans rapists and criminals so i think that the people that are surrounding trump are just influencing him and really in a way that really dislike doubling down on what he already believes and i think i just want to add when i was in minnesota there's this idea that all of these officials are able to say one thing and then switch it off really quickly the supporters of donald trump believe in his alternative facts the people that i talked to when i was trying to ask them about the policy they were just regurgitating everything from donald trump's tweets they said that we love the fact that he's tweeting and speaking directly to us so when we when we play these videos of jeff sessions saying one thing and then saying another but his supporters believe him locks to do they believe everything that he's tweeting and as a result that's why the media reporting does it doesn't really get through on the same way join us now the co founder of axios mike gallon mike good to see this morning axios taken a sneak peek at president trump's plan summit with russian president vladimir putin before i ask you my question i'll allow you to.
