Anyway, she texted us the story about Jimmy Garoppolo being offered free happiness by a certain ranch in Las Vegas for life. That it led to our radio show open to contain the character Lilly von stup from blazing saddles. I think that might be one of Susie's favorite achievements. She's ever had on this program and she's a frequent guest host of the show. And chicken. Clicking chicken. There you go. Now it's one of the top stories in Las Vegas. Happy for Jimmy. Also, he's got a new book coming out a novel that he wrote during the pandemic coming out what appears to be draft week. You can order father of mine right now the author in advance of a big week next week in the newly gear in the NFL Mike florio back here on the show. How are you doing, Mike? Rich doing great, buddy, great to be with you as always. Dude, write in a book. Bless you, man. This is not your first novel either that you wrote, huh? Well, here's what happened. Now, look, I screwed around with it years and years ago. Just because when you practice law, you generate a ton of paperwork and nobody ever sees it like 5 people see it, right? Yes. And you're constantly writing and writing. And then I get into this business where I am writing and writing and writing. But it's relevant for like a day. By tomorrow, everything I will have written today is meaningless. No matter how much of myself I put into it, if I have some witty phrase that somebody sees and smiles at, it's gone by tomorrow. It's over. It's done because they're looking for tomorrow's news. And I get that. But that manifested itself first in playmakers, which has a little more shelf life. Yes. Because it's a look at the last 20 years in the NFL, but it's already obsolete given everything that's happened since it came out last year. So pandemic sat down and just started going. And for me, it's got a ouija board quality to it where the keys just kind of go. And the story reveals itself to me and I don't even try to outline, although sometimes I have to figure out how I'm going to land the plane, but it just kind of goes. And that part of it is the most rewarding because it's kind of like your reading it not writing it. And it's revealing itself to you as it's just kind of happening. And I love getting into that kind of a mode. So anyway, long story bearable. I just keep doing it. It's my hobby now. And I don't care if anybody ever reads them, although you get more out of it if people read them and enjoy them. So we're going to give it a shot and see. No publisher for this one to cut the price point down to four 9 9. I learned through playmates as a publisher mix all the money, folks. You don't get nearly as much as they do. What better way to show off his ability to have great receptions? Look at him. I did not see that one coming, I must say. There he is. Great. Well, Don Smith. He has a mustache. He does, I know. That's what I'm saying does. He has it with his bicycle? In Sicily strong? Do you find it funny? I don't know. I find it something. I don't know funny is what I find. You find it brilliant. That might be it. By the way. Yes. This bit needs to go in there. No, okay, very good. Toilets, great, very good ones. Oh, it doesn't. Toilets. Dallas would blow the roof off this sucker to use a that's not going to have. Funkadelic phrase. Look, can I just ask you how hard did you laugh when you came up with that last one? We're sitting there right in this last night. Not last night. It was this morning. It was a wake up. What am I going to do today's show? You know what I'll do is I did. Okay, thank you. I made myself laugh. Which is the first indication did not run this up the flagpole with suze. She would have rejected it on the spot on behalf of you. Thank you. But I love it. By the way, Dallas, could you imagine if the bears did that? I can't see that. That won't do it. They won't do it. Yeah, it just doesn't seem like a bear thing. 'cause it's not sensible. It truly is not sensible. They're set up to make a crushing killing in the draft. And Dallas, though, why not? You're already paying dac what you're paying them, give them give Lamar. That same piece of pies. And it's give dak another spot. You can make a nice amount. You could make a nice return on that, clearly. And you've got Lamar. Why not? I get it, and I love Lamar, but I got that to myself. Are we that much better with Lamar than we are with that with the same weapons? I hear you too. That's why it's the wildest destination for him. Now when D hop and Odell come to Dallas in a couple, I'm sorry about that. Odell having his combine is personal combine today, right? Yeah. A lot of teams attending. Oh, really? Fantastic. Well, there is lots going on in the NFL, don't you think? Aaron Rodgers to arrive. Did you refresh? Did you look in the last episode? I've been too busy putting Lamar on a Verizon commercial. And by the way, you're welcome, Lamar. I think it's a great idea. You just made the list. So there you have it. Mike florio is first up. "So how do you deal with a rumor like that? Well, it's funny. And I don't want to speak out of school, but I spoke to rich last night because I wanted to make sure I properly couch squid he said and what he didn't say. And he was very reticent about, you know, I don't want to do this. I say, dude, I've been doing this for 22 years. It's okay. It actually works. We're trying to set the narrative. We're trying to push the envelope. It's okay. Embrace it. But he was very clear. He's not saying that Brady's telling people he's going to play. He's not doing any of that stuff. He's just passing along things he heard in Indy. And Dan, how can there not be a sense that maybe Brady's going to come back? We've seen it with Favre. We saw it with Brady last year, even though I think he knew damn well he was playing in 2022 when he retired. This year, though, he could pass a lie detector test. Right now, are you retired? Yes, I am. Come June? He may feel differently. Come July, he may feel differently than the most telling fact to me. And one of the episodes of his podcast after he retired. Jim gray said to him, you once said you would retire when you suck. You don't suck, why are you retiring? And he said, I believed it when I said it. That is a great get out of jail free card. I believed it. When I said it, I'm not lying. I mean, George Costanza should have embraced this. I wasn't lying. I believed it when I said it. You can have a lot of power in that statement. So I'm not ready to believe we won't see him. He is Mike florio. The new mob novel father of mine now available for pre order hits bookshelves, April 25th. Thank you. Less than a pack of smokes. Yeah, rich put that out there about the rumors, florio deals with this all the time. I'm hearing or sources close to. Here's the whispers that are going on, but we do attach. It doesn't take long. I've said before, this is what I'm hearing. This is not what I'm reporting. This is what I heard. It doesn't matter. People are going to take it, and then it becomes a report. Now all of a sudden, Tom Brady, dolphins, question mark. I could just imagine when florio is going so rich. Tell me exactly what, well, I heard this. That's when all of a sudden, when the Internet's coming after you, like, wait a minute, you report it and I didn't report. I just said this, this is what I hear. And I really, I really dislike, I'm hearing, because it's kind of a cheap way of not reporting, but you're still getting your name out there, and you're putting something out, hey, I was first to say it. I'm hearing. And if it goes wrong, you just say, hey, I didn't report it. I was just hearing it. But if it's right, then you're like, yep. I had that. Let me take a break. Back in 2015, a rookie driver named Derek white made history as the first ever indigenous driver in the NASCAR Cup Series. But just a few months later, he was arrested in Canada's largest ever police operation. Cops had spent more than a year following his every move because they believed Derek white was a major figure in an international criminal organization. He was the front man, if you will, for the organized crime slash hells angels. Well, see, that's one thing that did and really do their homework. Now, Derek's fighting his charges in court, his defense relies on his rights as a native person, and the craziest thing he might actually have a case. It's not only my fight, it's the whole nation's fight. From campsite media, then Dan Patrick productions, this is running smoke. We start out with Andrew in Washington, who is back. Hi Andrew, what's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan and Dan. Thanks for taking my call. I just had a little take on John morant in that situation, maybe some things behind the scenes, and then also I have a stat of the day. So I just think that Dylan Brooks just needs to be off the team. I think that he brings an element and an attitude to the team. But then if you're supposed to be the leader in the best player, John morant has to be the toughest too. So he's being fake tough by showing these guns and having these incidents at his house. And I just think it just brings on a bad atmosphere. There's a report this morning that even Steven Adams told the team and the team only meeting, hey, don't go out when we're on the road and we need more discipline. So I think they need to listen to that because they don't even have a player under roster that's 30 years old. They're the youngest team. So anyways, beyond that, I hope it does resolute and he does get better because he's an awesome talent. I think he has a lot to offer the NBA and I think he can learn from this and become a maybe a spokesman for what not to do. When you're young and so talented as he is. But on that note, I do have a start of the day. All right, Marvin hit the music.

Binge all episodes now on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Come up with a poll question here. Stat of the day. Play of the day, all of that forthcoming. When do we find out hand size from the combine for the quarterbacks, Pauly? I have it ready. Oh, you do? But I want to like, you know, there's some news to hit. Other things big, but they're ready. We're gonna go step by step. Bigger than hand sized day? Well, I think Joe burrow's success overcoming his minuscule hands has really taken the hand size thing off the table for us journalists. Mike Florrick could attest he doesn't cover it like he used to? Yeah, but can he pick it is the one that sounded the alarm. I don't remember as much with Joe burrow as I do Kenny. Burrow a small hand success opened the door for Kenny Pickett. He's a forefather of small handle. Do you think when they write the history of the NFL? They're going to talk about Joe burrow's hands and what that meant to other quarterbacks with small hands? Clearly. He's Mike florio. He's a busy guy, pro football talk live co host, precedes us with Chris Simms and contributor to football night in America, and he's got a novel out. It's about the mob. It's called father of mine, now available, pre order hitting bookshelves, April 25th. Where'd that come from? Pandemic, sitting around doing nothing. Pandemic, alcohol, cigars. Bermuda Triangle of creativity. That should be the name of the book. What? The Bermuda triangle? Yes. Yeah. And pandemic. Whatever. Whatever happened to the Bermuda Triangle. Remember when that was a thing like any plane that flew over that area just disappeared, any boat that went over that. And then we just never heard about it again. The Bermuda Triangle ended up in the Bermuda Triangle. I think I need to reach out to Kyrie Irving and get his thoughts on the Bermuda Triangle. All right, Mike, we got a busy day here with franchise tag day, explain the Lamar Jackson situation. What are the options for team and quarterback? Well, technically, first option is do nothing and let it become a free agent. They're not going to do that. Option two would be the transition tag, which would give them a right to match and no compensation. They're not going to do that. It comes down to the franchise tag. There's two levels. One, it's called the non exclusive tag. That would result in a 30 $2.4 million one year contract for Lamar Jackson if he chooses to accept it. But before he accepts it, he'd have the ability to go out and talk to any team he wants, as long as they have a first round pick in 2023. Can't talk to the dolphins, can't talk to the saints. Can talk to anybody with a first round pick in 23 and 24. Could sign an offer sheet, ravens can match it, and then they finally have a long-term contract with Lamar, or they can say, thanks, you take him, we'll take your two first round picks 20 23 and 2024. That's not exclusive for 32 point four. They can go exclusive, meaning he can't talk to anybody. He's under contract with them or no one unless they would trade him. That costs 45 million and the key is year two because if you do a two year franchise tag, non exclusive, it's $71 million total. If you do two year exclusive, it's 99 million total. That's why it's such a big decision for the ravens. They're gonna open the door to him possibly leaving at 32 million for this year or they're going to slam that door shut and commit to 45. Is this all about deshaun Watson? If Watson doesn't have that deal with Lamar Jackson signed? Well, I have a feeling there would be something else just because and look, I've been on record from the moment Lamar Jackson entered the NFL without an agent of all the positions quarterback needs an agent. You need a great agency that has experience negotiating complicated quarterback contracts. It's one thing to do your original contract because it's all slotted, it's easy. Second contract tougher. And looked at, even if he does a long-term deal with the ravens today, it doesn't change the fact that he could have had one in August and been paid for all of 2022 based on a higher contract instead of getting 23 million for the full season and now being year two of that big money deal he turned down. So the Watson thing became kind of that focal point. 5 years fully guaranteed, that's what I want. That's what I want. That's what I want. And we'll find out if they go not exclusive. Is there a team out there that is currently that is ready to go 5 years fully guaranteed? Would the falcons do it? Would the commanders do it? Now, I kind of wonder whether or not they're just kind of lurking in the weeds, Baltimore is close by. Hey, we'll do 5 years fully guaranteed. I'm about to sell the team. I'll give the league office the middle finger on the way out the door. They don't like 5 year fully guaranteed contracts. I'll give him one. So it'll be interesting to see if someone does it. 'cause I think if they, if they can get one of these other teams can get Lamar to sign something other than 5 years fully guaranteed, maybe the ravens match. Somebody does it to Sean Watson deal? Could be gone. Gino Smith, that's a win win for both sides. I would think. I don't know how much leverage he had. What did you make of Geno and the Seahawks? Well, I mean, bottom line is if they don't do that deal, they have to use the franchise tag or let them hit the open market and I don't know what kind of a land rush there would have been for Geno Smith because it was one year. He had those 8 years in the wilderness. I think it's a great stat. He made 17 and a half million his entire career before this contract, this new contract pays twice that per year. And a cautionary note, and this is more relevant to the Derek Carr contract because we've seen the real details. That first headline that comes out is almost always got a little BS baked into it. I haven't seen the Geno contract details yet. The three years one O 5 may be taking a liberty or two with the truth, maybe it's a two year deal. And look, that's a fascinating wrinkle damn because you got Pete Carroll out there making noise about using the 5th overall pick on a quarterback. Now, either that's just posturing to maybe trade out or it's real. The real details of the genome Smith contract will show us whether they are making a three year commitment, but if what's been reported is accurate, 35 million a year for a guy who was forgotten, that's a damn good payday for him. I'm confused with the Daniel Jones situation of what he reportedly wants. And if I'm the Giants, I let somebody come and get Daniel Jones and give me two first round picks for him. I can't go up to 45, but 32 sounds like a pretty good deal for a guy who's had one really good year. How do you think this plays out? Yeah, and Dan, when this news broke a couple of weeks ago that he had changed agencies from CAA to athletes first. I mean, this isn't like he traded in some mom and pop operation for a high end agency. He went from one high end agency to

"Do you think do you think NFL players should be allowed to bet on NBA games? I don't know how you would prevent that. And that's what I mean like you're opening up a can of worms. Do I think it's a big problem? Even if they had inside info, I mean, other people have inside info. You don't think some of these bookmakers and all these people have some kind of inside info or people that do broadcasters or whatever. So I mean, how can you be a gambler? And they want all these restrictions. It's no sense. Look, I think where you're dealing with the sport, you have to have some kind of rules in place. Do I care if Calvin Ridley or Aaron Rodgers or whoever places a bet on the Knicks? No. And I think that when it's become legal, then why shouldn't you? Now, they're allowed though, aren't they? Aren't they allowed to bet on the there's not a lot of bad on the NFL? Right. Right. Okay, so that makes sense. I mean, that's fine. I just think it's a very slippery slope where you're playing with these athletes that can, you know, that can bet on the games. Otherwise, then just open it up and understand that you're living in a world where everybody can bet on everything and that's that. And the players get paid enough, so where it's not going to impact the games, or finally you come around to my point. Well, but you can even go back to Pete Rose. You think Pete Rose is doing something you shouldn't have been doing as far as as far as fixing a game? I don't. Again, he broke a rule, but I don't think what he did is that big of a deal. Well, he was betting on his team to win. So I don't think it's a big deal. But the guy suspended for life. He's never going to get in the whole thing. It's a 100% absurd. But I understand it. I don't like it. I don't agree with it. I understand because of what it could lead to. If you open it up and say, oh, well, we could bet on our team. You would definitely have see, even want the Tim Donnie thing, one of those is enough to turn the fan. Yeah, it's different. Right, but it could happen moving forward with somebody if you don't have a harsh penalty. I would say. All right, we'll see you next week. This was good. Yeah, go make your wagers. Yeah. No, no, I'm clean for now. Anyway. Now we'll see what happens. All right. All right, my many thanks to Chris mad dog Russo, Mike florio and my buddy Sal la cata for coming on the show this week. Hope you guys enjoyed it. If you missed any of the recent episodes last.

"There's limits on all these sites. They can't, you can't more than like $50 on a prop Ed. I mean, they're not, there's nothing here that that scenario doesn't exist of someone trying to fix the game. Yeah, and then I think it just comes to fundamentally differences because if you are you personally are okay with finding out players are betting on games. Then that's your opinion. I would think you were in the minority, not that that makes it wrong. That's just you. I have a big problem with that. Outside of fixing a game, I don't know one reason why a football player can't bet on a football game. It's just a bad, it's just bad. It's a bad look. I wouldn't want to watch a game knowing that the players are betting on some of the games that they're playing in. Whether it's whether it's because of definitively they can make a difference in their bank account or not. It just is a, you know, bad optics, which I hate that term, but that's the reality of the situation knowing that the guys playing in the game, well, what about coaches then? What about the assistant coach? Who may get fired year after year after year is he allowed to bet on the game? You have no problem with that? Again, I would make the rule, don't bet on your team. But if the jets suggest if the jets assist in coach, that's a charger's chief game. Who cares? I mean, I just, and again, the assistant coach is probably making a $1 million. Right. It's just to me a common sense integrity thing where it's a no brainer. There's no need for what's the need for Calvin Ridley or anybody to bet on the game. You're getting bad. How can you say that when you bet? I'm not an NFL player. It's a big difference. I'm allowed to bet. He's still a human being. He wants some action. He's bored watching a game. All right, but again, if you bring the drug scenario into it, if your job is not drugs, this is nothing to do with drugs. We're not talking about it. It's your job saying you can't do it. You can't do it. And the story. So he should get punished, but it's the length of the punishment. A whole year to me makes no sense for something that's not that big of a deal. Let me ask you this question. If our Rogers bet $3000 on DraftKings, do you think Roger Goodell is spending it for the whole season? There's no chance. I mean, but then you could say the league is the league is on the take for a different reason. Maybe not gambling, but then it's not right, which I think that there's some truth to it. So I think the lack of it, same thing with Brady..

"Was in the mix before the Flores lawsuit was fine. Right. Miami was going to go after Tom Brady and Sean Payton. And the filing of the Flores lawsuit caused the plug to be pulled on that. Now Miami privately will allow that they've talked about minority ownership for Brady, but I think, you know, they're not going after Sean Payton to have Sean Payton coach to a tongue by lower. That's for damn sure. They had another planet quarterback, and I think it was Tom Brady, but that got derailed. Now, I don't know where else he would go right now where you can walk into a place where the deck is stacked in your favor like it was in Tampa. And you look at the forty-niners. You look at how good they've been with a mid level quarterback. You put Tom Brady on the forty-niners, they're the Super Bowl favorite. Going in, whatever odds you want to put, they go to the top of the stack in my mind as the favorite to win it all this year. That would be something, holy cow. I wanted him to get into broadcasting, I guess that's not going to happen. You mentioned Flores and the dolphins, the other thing. I wrote a column last week. I am in love with Mike mcdaniel. What a breath of fresh air in the NFL, this guy is, I mean, he was at the combine and did a bunch of stuff with eyes in. Your show. Yeah, it was your show. It was awesome. I got most of the clips. Right. It's funny. I didn't even put that together. It was your show that sort of prompted that. And then the eisen thing, and then when John lynch was given the press conference, he was waving at him. Just how can you not love this guy's personality? Can he work as a head coach? The thing is, you know, with that personality now translate to getting 53 men to listen to him and follow him, what's going to go on there? I remember when the eagles fired chip Kelly, Jeff Laurie, the owner of the team, was talking about the importance of emotional intelligence. And it felt like they had it with Doug Peterson into it all kind of fell apart there. But I look at Mike mcdaniel and I say this guy gets it. He's got the emotional intelligence. He knows what to say. And I don't know that his relationship with each individual player is going to be different like a Jimmy Johnson would do. I think that he is so unique and authentic and disarming that his way will gravitate people toward him in a very enigmatic and powerful way where he doesn't have to be one way with this guy one way with that guy..

"Who was, you know, I'm not as wrapped up on the new music as I should be. And I had some chances to see Dylan here in the last few days in the last couple of months. And I love Dylan, but I don't want to hear those I want to hear the old songs. And he's not going to play an 8 me, babe. All right. I'm not going to get that. So I wouldn't do that one. If I could see a band today who would I see? Wow, that's a good question. Well, how about I give you something while you think about it? Yeah, yeah, well, you should give me some thoughts and I should not say if I want to see him. I went Sunday 5 days ago, NASA coliseum, Elton John. Yeah, I've seen him a couple times before. It was his last tour too, right? That's right. Well, here's what here's what I was impressed by. He did a show there Saturday night. So he did back to back Saturday Sunday. And that's what coliseum, huh? Yeah, no lord management. He did two shows in Madison Square last week. I think he then did shows at either Barclays or the new UBS USB, whatever it is. And then he did coliseum. Saturday, Sunday, back to back two and a half hours, 75 years old. That's a hell of a job. I was impressed. You know what, right now, I've seen him before. I go to the stones again. I want to see what Jagger run around a little bit. Maybe there's still a touring during the United States. Oh yeah, they tore all the time. It seems like. Yeah, I mean, I would say that sounds like Springsteen is going to go. And I've seen Betty jolene in time. Let's talk about you. Yeah. $40 to park at the NASA coliseum is a little much. And so was it sold out at the coliseum? So here's what happened. He was a Saturday Sunday. I wanted the tickets, obviously, for Saturday. The Saturday prices were through the roof on StubHub. Sunday, the prices were like almost half the amount. People don't want to go to concerts on Sunday nights, I guess, because I got to go to work the next day. There were scattered empty seats, but it was for the most part sold out. Is he playing? Did he have a warmup and it was by himself? No, by himself. And he had a good and here's another thing that shocked me. The ticket, it says 8 o'clock start time. He was on stage at 7 59, no full on it's very good. I hate when they get out at 9. Jackson Brown, I've seen him a million times. And he just was out last summer with James Taylor. Yeah. I didn't go and I probably should have a Jackson only played ten songs. If I knew he was going to play 2022, I'd go. Right. But that is one, too. Now my huge shacks and brown fan. I'll tell you what I hate and what needs to stop is the nonsense of the encore. Just stay on the stage and do the show. Why do you have to go away? We got to clap, then you come back. It don't waste my time with that. That's a very fair point..

And I said, do you remember when we were in high school? We would go in my parents driveway with the basketball who put on Mike and the mad dog. Before the Knicks and rangers playoff games, shoot hoops, play horse, listen to Mike and Chris and imitate Marv Albert, and then Marv Albert texted me. Yeah, that would make you feel good. And he's good with that. He's done that before and he reads everything. That's a great job. I thought you'd like that one. I like that one. I had more bonds too when he before we turned out. I love the spot. I love this spot. Yeah. I love it. Let's do serious XM here for a little bit. You know, and the last thing on first taken at this time, I asked people on Twitter if they had questions. And you know, another thing that's happened throughout this is so many people like sign Rousseau full-time. Make room so the full-time hearse need, it wouldn't work 5 days a week, I think. Once a week is perfect for this because you guys are just too combustible. 5 days a week. Yeah, you wear everybody's appetite. You win everybody's appetite. Something look forward to. Yeah, and it's way too soon to jump into that kind of role on a day in and day out basis. That's a lot of work going down there and doing it. Down there, a lot of work. What's the status now with SiriusXM, your show three to 60s? Are you in the studio at all now? Your home every year. We're gonna start two days a week in the studio. I'm gonna go in next week for a couple of days. First time I've been in that studio since March 11th of 2020. We're gonna do wenzel with the NCAA tournament. Right. So next Thursday and Friday, the old Jacksonville coach CBS, who's a good guy, knows all the teams. He's going to come up and we're going to do three to 7, take an hour out of story. Three to 7 Thursday and Friday for the first two days of the tournament. And that is the first time that I've been in that studio for two years. You know, I don't want to, I don't want to get you in trouble, but everyone gives Howard Stern so much crap about not being in studio. The doggy hasn't been in the studio either. What's going on? I have not been in a studio either. Yeah, and Howard has not been anywhere near it. I think Howard eve is going to go in. Now, we're going to go in. Now I'm going to start two days a week, probably combine it with the first take day, you know? So the more you in the city. Right, you ready, then. That kind of thing. But I probably will start that. I would think Eddie Erickson would tell you, probably about April 1st, you know, if I go in, they got to go in too. You know, here's the secret. You think that I don't want to go in. I don't care going in. Ericsson and Colin snuffing the two guys who are working to show the last thing you want to do is commute from massive peak into the midtown Manhattan to do it. They love doing the show at home. They both got kids and everything else. Well, you know how much care..

I don't know what their connection is with their fan base. It's got to be pretty good. You know, I think Angelo cultivates got a good group down and Philadelphia that morning show. The thing about you and Mike, I mean, this goes back to like mid 90s and it still holds true today. I mean, there's just that yeah, I think it's father's son. I think it's perfect and I think it's perfect storm, Jimmy. I mean, we remember you're talking about the first radio station in sports all day. That's what you're talking about the Giants winning super bowls. You're talking about the Yankees on their rise. You're talking about, as you said, 94, the rangers went in there standing cup, you know, talking about the Knicks with Riley. Yes. I mean, there was a lot going on. You know, the mets were always up and down. It's not going on in the 90s. And me and Mike with a soundtrack to it. And I'll tell you what I've gotten a lot of on Twitter, these past few weeks when you've been on first take. When I've posted the videos, I get a lot of, this is my childhood. This is the sound of my childhood. Really? A lot of that. That's why I've gotten a lot of, I've gotten a lot of, well, this is Mike and Amanda on TV. Yeah, yeah. For sure. "And then a couple a few years ago, maybe a year before the pandemic, I started to warm up to it and I found Stephen a to be a true character and entertainer and performer. And I did like a one 80 on, and I said, I get what this guy is really good at what he does is really entertaining. Came on, he came on this podcast last summer. Good. And completely won me over. I thought he was oh, really? Actually, he's got that personality. Yes, he does. He did this podcast from his car. He literally was going home for me as Penn pulled over on the side of the road and did the did the podcast. So they made a big effort. He doesn't need me. So that showed me something. And it was great. And Molly, I had on a couple of weeks ago and she was great. I heard about that. All right. So for you, what was your relationship like with Stephen a before this thing happened in the last couple of months? I don't know why. I don't know why, but I think there's a little bit of Stephen a looks up to me. You know, he probably was listening to me in 1989 with Michael. It's not 30 something years ago. He was probably just getting out of high school. You know, so we all know that Mike put out on a Twitter page that, you know, Stephen a was maybe a candidate if Mike decided to do a partner went to a left. So for whatever the reason, Stephen a has really looked up to me. I mean, I know that's weird. I'm not that much older than he is. But he's always looked up to me. So because of that, I think that has made this well made his successful. These first couple of little appearances because he never, Jimmy, it's his show. Right. And in order for that show to work, he has to let me get some cart blanch. Right. And a lot of guys wouldn't do that in his position. So he asked if you're comfortable that if he's going to try this, the guy that he's letting do this, he's got to let him go. Well, you're not afraid, and he's not afraid of getting beat up a little bit. That's very, very significant. So you're a 100% right. But they would have to be, whether it's ESPN, specifically producers, Stephen a they'd have to be incredibly dumb to bring in Chris mad dog Russo and then try to change him. I mean, they brought you in because of the way you are, I think, and they're smart enough to let you go, have you gotten any post show notes, like don't do this, don't say that. Okay. Everyone knows dog is on SiriusXM Monday through Friday three to 6 eastern and now he's got a podcast on the magic bird 1979 title game digging up the pads. We'll get into all that. Here's one question I keep getting from people on Twitter about first take. They want to know whose idea was it to get you on there? Was that all Stephen a, was it an ESPN executive had it all come down? Stephen a texted me on January 22nd, asked me if you wanted to do come on Wednesday to talk about the bird magic upper magic, the Hall of Fame stuff with bonds and Clemens. And I say, yeah, I mean, I'll come in here and we'll give you a segment, so I went down there on that January 24th when the Hall of Fame, I think, was either the day before, so it had been told that they weren't in the Hall of Fame. I did the segment. We did another segment because it was right after Green Bay lost in San Francisco. So there was some juice with that game with Rogers and Brady almost beaten the rams. And I left, I went to came home and he called me up the next morning and climbing up the next morning at 8 15, and he said, listen, you know, we did a hell of a job. I am interested in hearing anything, you know, down the road. And I said, you know, absolutely, you know, sure, why not? Blah, blah, blah, I got to work it out with the TV with the baseball. Everything else, the next day, the next day.

"Rich eisen show on the air buster. Only of espn is gonna join us this hour to talk about how When the nfl makes rule change and they always talk about an it's not a rule change which just emphasizing the world. We have a new rule emphasis k. We're telling the officials to emphasize calling something that's already on the books apparently Whenever if that's ever done in the middle of the season teams go nuts. Remember chris couple years ago There were there. Were three awful. Hits on a weekend and The kid from rutgers whose name escapes me right now. He got paralyzed. You've got carted off the field. Aircon right look right. He got he got carted off and then there were three hits in the nfl on the same sunday. And then all of a sudden they changed the rule. Emphasis about they're gonna call helmet-to-helmet a lot more and teams went crazy. Baseball apparently is going to start. Checking pitchers multiple times a game for substances onto baseball. Good and i don't know how the hell that's gonna work so we're gonna get buster only on this program but now we turn a man who knows all about the nfl because he won't decide called pro football talkie created. He runs it. He does not one but two shows for nbc sports on peacock he starts the day with pf t live and ends it with pf t pm when that show is in season. He's name is mike florio and he's back here on. The rich eisen show is rich. Doing great you were speaking of october. Seventeen twenty ten. Three bang bang hits about five minutes of real time. Dante robinson. Hit to sean jackson brandon. Meriweather hit todd. Heap and james harrison hit muhammed massa. And that changed everything. When it comes to the league's enforcement of hits the helmet neck area of defenseless receivers. Hello how are you guys example. You would know that. An and the only thing i would take issue with is brandon. Meriweather went top rope on todd heap. That was insane out of all. I remember marshall. Faulk went on game day morning the week after those hits took place. And saying that sean. Jackson should've known to sit down in the coverage. If he would knew what the coverage was he actually studied to know what coverages look like. He would have sat down and dante robinson wouldn't have blown him up that he he pinned that one onto sean jackson which made us all look at marshal gordy talking about but The league just doesn't you know. Obviously it was just gonna stop all of that in. Its attracts yet. That's all spain's now and it's on the defensive back to play with the right technique and if you hit that helmet neck area with your helmet or any other part of your body of forcible blow to the head or neck area of defensive player. It's an automatic fifteen yards and involuntarily contribution to the human fund and suspensions overtime mike florio pro. Football talk always great for seinfeld reference. Right here on the rich. Eisen show Julio jones trade. What's what's the headline to come out of it do you. Arthur blank blank. Try saying that ten times fast. Right what it came down to arthur blank wanted a first round pick for julio jones for two reasons one they got a second round pick from hamas new during the two thousand nineteen season and then they gave up a second round. Pick to get hayden. Hurst from the ravens. Now it was a two plus What was it two. Plus they got a two plus five for hayden hers plus a four so the the the the fingerprints were there for what ultimately happened with the two and a four from the titans for julio jones in six it had to be more than two plank wanted a one blanket held out for a one and i think when arthur blank realized where this is going from here training camp looming mandatory minicamp theory. Julio could have shown up what do you do with. Julio jones where he's got a fifteen point three million dollar injury guarantee and otherwise we'll guarantee on his salary if he shows up for mandatory. Minicamp what do you do with them. I think that blanche's decided now is the time to to get what i can and move on even if they come up with a way to hold onto julio jones maybe they would have gotten lucky and got in that. First rounder later in the year. I just think that that they were ready to move on. And there's a chance to titans are going to move on the titans move on. What do you have so it was time. It was smart and they got the best deal they could under a bad set of circumstances where it was well known within the organization player wanted out and so what comes with. Julio is the contract right and and what. What are those numbers. And how do you see. Julio handling his new digs in tennessee on that front alone. Xs and os assad full contract with none of it. Paid by the falcons. Win the titans straight of ryan tannehill a couple of years ago. The dolphins paid five million dollars of tanta hills. Compensation very different circumstance at at that time and at this time but the titans are going. Pay the full fifteen point. Three million guaranteed for skill injury and cap. There's a two million guarantee. Next year they pick up the whole contract. But here's the thing. Even though the jones contract which was renegotiated three years ago had a new money. Average of twenty two million plus right. Now it's three years thirty. Eight million in change works out to about twelve point seven million per year watch for julio jones to either want a new deal on the way in the door or go out this year have a great season and then turn around after twenty twenty one and say all right. It's time to take care of financially. But that's what whoever was trading for. Julio jones was going to end up buying. And i think that's one of the reasons. Why the falcons couldn't get that that first round pick your taking on fifteen point three million in salary obligation the year when the cap is down of twenty five million and you have a guy who's gonna want another major contract as soon as.

What number we now here. A colonic sixteen. Yeah it is. What's fourteen lawsuits. Isn't it to. Because the time this thing drops people listen numbers rate in this situation. I haven't read a the guy in the houston. Chronicle his name wilson yet. Yup does he still think sixteen are lining up to make a deal. How silly was that premise. None of them would take to shawn watson for nothing. They didn't win. Give you a thing for the shawn watson because this guy has a problem. He's not who we thought he was. I'm ready to jump to conclusions and say he was inappropriate with many many women and he had a fetish couldn't just be one or two. He wanted to do this to a number women because he probably enjoyed the challenge. Enjoyed the danger of it. All and today mike florio from pro football taco used to be a lawyer. Cam Newton responds to Jeff Garcia's criticism about attire: 'He's exactly right. But I'm not changing'
"Niners roughed up the Patriots on Sunday, and Cam Newton did not look good again and you know, he said, Look, it's on me. Now you look good post game. He always looks good post game, Not to everybody. Jeff Garcia is a former NFL quarterback, and he covers the 40 Niners. Now I think NBC Sports ve area And he went off on Cam Newton's postgame outfit. You go into this game, two touchdowns for receptions. You throw what? Three more interceptions. You get shanked in the second half. There's nothing good going your way. Why you dressing like that? To bring Mohr attention to yourself. I'd be trying to ask the equipment managers put me in your jock sock. Card and sneak me in the back door and also upon the field and do the best that I know this sounds like you're speaking from too much experience here. Okay, like this just goes back to a couple years of just watching this guy and seeing him at the podium. But yet what he's doing on the field does not translate. To being that guy, and I don't want it like I mean, Joe. Name it. Yeah. The fork. Oh, yeah. When you when you predict you're gonna win a Super bowl and you go out and do it Wear. Where do the Cowboys go from here? To the trade deadline — but as sellers instead of buyers
"The Cowboys easier to write about when they win or when they lose? Uh, they're easy to write about what they lose. When they win. People feel good. You sell more newspapers when they win. That's a proven thing. So there's that. But, man what you know now, sometimes when they're bad, they're just not interested. And they just kind of go away. Like I don't know what it's like to right about when the Detroit Lions are bad. They probably just people are waiting for the Red Wings to drop the puck. But when the Cowboys are bad, there's usually nine different things in Iraq, And this year there, there might be that might be multiplied. So there's you can just pick out of a hat. And and and go from there. What is Jerry? June Jones do now? You know, one of the really disappointments with serious disappointments, obviously of code. But one of the rial lighter disappointments of this year is that he doesn't do press conferences after every game, because I can't imagine. What level he would have reached yesterday. Um, you know, it's Tze one thing to get beat up by Seattle or airy Arizona's offense. They can't stop the run. With anybody, not the Washington football team. They run for over 200 yards. And if you want to pick one area of the Cowboys that does not beat up my injuries. Their front seven They've got Jalen Smith. They got banned arrest. They've got the Marcus Lords they've got. They've got elegance. They got Everson Griffen. They got Tyrone Crawford. They got guys were supposed to be there, and they can't tackle anybody. And then you have the hit on Andy Dalton and that nobody seems to concern about the chief shot by Jon Bostic. That wasn't it took the announcers of minutes to kind of recognize, but they did eventually, So okay, that's that's a brutal Yep. Be Amari Cooper is standing there and there's others around there had to be a number of players see it. I would think the entire offensive line and to see it. On nothing. Nothing at all. I mean, I can't imagine. If that was Dad getting hit like that that they wouldn't have done something but that that just pointed to the the give up factor of this team they looked like in the first quarter. They're out there to see when it's going to go badly, and you know how much it's going to feel like a ground hog day. They got nothing on either side of the ball, but quitting is worse than losing to him. Yeah. And of course, coaches will always and players will fight. You didn't quit. Everybody has a great attitude by when you see something like that, and when you see it That And when you see a team that just gets gassed in the run and announcers every week, whether it's the money, night crew or yesterday was was Moose. Ah lot of destroyed job back and they get very quickly. The out of position on these place. They really get outflanked quickly without defense. I mean, they're they're talking around the fact that team looks very poorly prepared and has no idea what to do in the players. Never respond if Jerry had to do over coaching. Well, I mean, that's what What was it about Mike McCarthy flying in and spending one night at the Jones house and all they were just so wowed by this guy. They couldn't believe it. Now, what have you seen in any game that he brings? You didn't call the plays so anytime the offense was playing well earlier in the year, That's Kellen Moore is offense. So what is he doing over there that he brings Emily brought in all these coaches? Guys he had in Green Bay 10 years ago. Mike Nolan, who hired him 20 years ago. It's just this. This cronyism tied coaching staff. And you wonder, and you wonder how much Jerry thought about like a mat rule. He mentioned Matt Rule one time last December, just after Baylor played in the Big 12 championship game. What a great young coach to thought. Matt Rhule wass. And you're Matt Rhule took over a team that was just God awful and got ready Cam Newton, and they released whatever they are three and four. They compete. Uh, yeah. I mean, I don't know. I don't know that he wouldn't like to rethink this lot. Now it's the first year so I think both the pandemic the DAC injury, the offensive line being completely wiped out. Those going allow the coaches to skate for year. But he has to be thinking this. This may have been a Terrible higher. The Cowboys buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. You know, I don't think they have a lot to sell. I heard somebody saying trade one of their wide receivers. They don't need that many hundreds of it. That's the one thing they have is good wide receivers. You want to trade one of those go You know, Draft Ah, linebacker with a neck injury. That's what that's what excites you about rebuilding the team. I don't think they will do much. There's certainly not Myers, they get by. I mean, I don't know why in the world you would add. Do it to a terrible collection of talent as this many injuries, but I don't expect him to do a lot, actually.

San Francisco 49ers complain about 'sticky' turf at MetLife Stadium after injuries pile up vs. New York Jets
"Explained to me about the playing surface at metlife stadium with the jets giants, and what is the biggest concern what happened during the forty niners jets game on Sunday a lot of lower leg injuries. Some season ending injuries including one suffered by nick boasts of the forty niners defensive and I think that really changes that team dramatically to not have him. The complaints began to come from individual 49ers players saying that there's something wrong with turf that their foot gets stuck in the turf and I started to poke around the giants and the steelers played their six days earlier they had no issues with the turf. From the jets, the response was we were too busy getting our faces kicked into notice anything wrong with the turf but the forty niners had the issue they had the complaint. The League's position is these fields certified they're certified by an independent inspector they're certified by the teams well to me. That's good enough to, and because we've seen plenty of crappy fields. That have been certified certified as being suitable for play. Remember the Fedex fields shows the day they had to paint the Dirt Green for a playoff game, the game where Robert Griffin two thirds a finally went. So I I don't accept that as being positive in the NFL PA has echoed the forty niners concerns that maybe we should take a look at this. What's the harm in reconfirming that everything is fine with this playing? Surface it feels like something more than just sour grapes by the forty niners. There are enough guys complaining about it to to at least raise the question of why not take a closer look and make sure there's nothing wrong with this new playing surface. But what can you do? Can the niners refused to play the giants this weekend? That's what makes it so fascinating usually, what happens is the road team if they have a Problem with the field or not coming back for the rest of the year, they may not be coming back for eight years. If it's an interconference game here, they are seven days later back on the same field and the giants have come out strong JOE judge. Head coach said, we practice throughout training camp. We have no issues at all with this and I don't think the NFL going to get any relief I. Mean we've. Seen in the past where we're field has gotten so bad a teams had to tear it and replace it at New England at one point they had to get rid of the grass and put down field turf but I don't think that's going to happen. I. Think the forty niners will just going to have to deal with it and I don't think the NFL is going to concede that there was an issue with the turf. And they're going to go forward and we'll see what the forty niners players have to say after playing there again, this weekend,

Big Ten football is back: What you need to know
"Email or statement from the big 10? Is there anything in here about the number of schools were going to play football this fall? Yep. Big 10 conference is announcing This is on the big town website Adopt stringent medical protocols. Football Season to resume October 23rd 24th, Which means Friday, Saturday, Okay? Is everybody playing, eh? 14 big tennis. All teams are playing as of the big 10 announcement. They don't have anyone. It doesn't say that line specifically, but just says 14 teams will adopt these. Protocol, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It doesn't say anything about anybody not playing. That's the news here. That's what I want to find out. I mean, this is why it's taken so long. This is why they've had to push the season back a couple of times because trying to get there must be some presidents going kicking and screaming. I just heard from my source. He says that I've reached out and my sources are in meetings now. My guess is that the later start will guarantee everybody will least try. The big 10 has been so divided that the optics of not having all in would be bad. So I think that's that's what's happening or has happened since the last 48 hours. I'm guessing 72 hours and I'll keep in idleness and try to give you as much information as I can aside, receive it, but Trying to find out exactly if everybody's playing and that that changes a lot here. Yes, phone in the big 10 release one thing that's interesting. They are establishing policies whether teams continue to practice or play based on infections on the team. It has to match the rate of the public if it's if it's Maur than the rate of the public. They conserve that, like a breakout. Gender reveal party sparks large Californian wildfire after pyrotechnic device ignites dry grass
"The original pandemic Gender reveals. Maybe just maybe we got the vaccine this weekend. Maybe they will never bother us again because one of these unnecessary reveals is now the cause. Of one of the huge wildfires lodging in California A couple dragged its family to El Dorado Ranch Park on Saturday and brought with them a quote. Smoke generating PIRA device surveillance video shows the device being lit and then people scrambling to find water to put out the flames. The fire is now over 8000 Acres big, only 7% controlled. The video has not been released yet because there's an ongoing investigation now. Everybody involved apparently has been cooperating with officials. But the guy or the woman, the person who actually ignited his device could could be charged with a crime here and held liable for the fires. But the moral of the story is just stop doing this. Stop hitting golf balls. Stop letting off balloon that choke birds. Just stop it. Just tell me what kid you're having. And let's move on. I got to tell you. I have so many thoughts on this number one California has been like the inside of a pizza oven for like, three weeks now why you would drag anybody to a park to do outdoors These days? Your gender reveal in California is anybody's guess. Like 118 degrees. Yeah, everybody. Let's go outside. To go to the steam bath toe burn to a crisp that you know that we're having a girl. I mean, could you imagine how how completely thoughtless this is for your family lift, drag you to a park outdoors when it's 180. Number two on the outside to make a baby. I don't want to be able to find out what your baby is Number two. The gender reveal stuff. It's so overboard. But now we need pyrotechnics. Now there's a some oak freaking machine, a smoke machine. You need a smoke machine. For this. It's already over the top, dragging everybody to a park to learn. Who cares. You're having a baby. Whether it's a boy or a girl. The baby will be loved.
