"Year, Chris Mike Emanuel reporting from Capitol Hill, Mike Thanks and joining us now, Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney, still the number three Republican in the House, congresswoman? Welcome back to Fox News Sunday. Great to be back with you, Chris. Thanks for having me. So, as Mike Emanuel just reported yesterday, your home state Wyoming Republican Party centered you and called for you to resign immediately saying that you had betrayed the trust. Wyoming voters. Are you going to step down? I'm not Mike in Chris. Sorry And look. I think people all across Wyoming understand and recognize that that are most important duty is to the Constitution. And as I've explained, and will continue to explain Tonto supporters all across the state voters all across the state. The oath that I took to the Constitution compelled me to vote for impeachment, and it doesn't bend to partisanship. It doesn't bend to political pressure. It's the most important oath that we that we take and so I will stand by that, and I will continue to fight for all of the issues that matter so much to us all across Wyoming. They debated your home state Republican party. They debated for 11 minutes before deciding to censure you, the congresswoman, the number three Republican in the house. What's that about? Well, I think you have to read the language of the century. Partly, I think you know the people in the party are mistaken. They believe that BLM in Antifa were behind what happened here at the Capitol. That's just simply not the case. Not true on we're gonna have a lot of work We have to do. People have been lied to the extent to which the President President Trump for months leading up to January, 6th spread the notion that the election has been stolen or that the election was rigged. But it was a lie, and people need to understand that we need to make sure that we as Republicans are the party of truth and that we're being honest about what really did happen in 2020. So so we actually have a chance to win in 2022 when the White House back in 2024 You know, there were like Congresswoman or two questions here, one of which is the role of President Trump. That's going to be debated in the Senate this next week, but also the future of the Republican Party in Washington this week, you survived a challenge. Your position as the House Republican Conference chair, but there was fierce blow back to your decision to vote to impeach the president. Take a look at some of that. "But for now, We have Mike Emanuel back on the line. He is the senior political correspondent at Fox News Channel. Mike, Welcome back to the program. Dr Joe. Thank you so much for having me. Well, we're happy to have you and you know one technicality When you come on three times you become a regular contributor. So that is that the new The news designation for you, Mike. Thank you Add that to your resume, So we were supposed to have this chat last week, but we got bounced by the Astros and I wanted to Get some insight from you on Cove in 19. What is happening in Washington? And, of course, the president coming down with it and and recovering and get your insight and the one thing that made me think. Okay, let me let me reach out to Mike to get some insight. Once it was he was diagnosed, and the press started asking questions. I sat there thinking these questions are not too well thought out. You would have thought that this was a new disease that just sort of landed on. The landscape. So what? What do you think? Or how did you view the questioning and the excitement and the things that they were? Discussing about the president and covert. What do you think? But I think there was a sense of shock. Initially, whenever you hear the leader of the free world is going to the hospital and has a potentially life threatening illness was killed. More than 200,000 of our fellow Americans, and he's of a certain age and, you know, body type and so you know, we're wondering like, how bad is this going to be, and I think it's Unsettling for all Americans to hear that American presidents heading to the hospital, particularly with such a devastating illness. I mean, I know for me when I'm reporting on a particular subject. I can bounce around from, you know, foreign policy one day to Supreme Court nominee to Cove it to Hunter Biden's emails to presidential campaign and so what I try to do is just be a sponge and just read as much. Good information as possible as quickly as possible. So if I were at Walter Reed asking questions of his doctors, I would have read through a whole bunch of stuff from Dr Fancy, Dr Burkes. And a lot of other experts you know, outside of the government to get the latest in greatest about what we know about this devastating pandemic disease, and so Hopefully, I would have phrased some well thought questions to get the best information for our viewers and listeners and readers and do so in a smart way. So it's it's challenging because all of a sudden a lot of those folks are probably focused on the presidential campaign or range of domestic policy issues. Then all of a sudden, they were asked to become health reporters, and so you know, I'm not going to kill them. But I understand you're you're a doctor. You're an expert. So you know the questions they were asking, and they didn't meet your standards. And so I would just say that I hope that you know I would have done my homework and come up with some good questions. Exactly that. That really is what I was thinking. So as as an and you answered really the follow up question here. There is so much information. How do you personally Go about Trying to filter out the breaking news on a particular therapy of and and you must have contacts and resource is at all these different agencies. Tell us about that. Yeah, Absolutely. And so, look, I think the Internet is a beautiful thing. You know, we have so much information at our fingertips. The question is the credibility of the sources you're looking at, and so You know, I would favor you know, medical background type publications. Um, I would favor you know, big time news organizations. You know, I would. I would look at The New York Times Journal, The Washington Post. The Houston Chronicle. You know a range of great publications and you no use my brain and basically Look at what they're telling me, you know, try to filter out and he spend that might be in there. But, you know, really try to dig down on the hard core stats and information just to have them at my, you know. Front of my mind. Basically, when I'm asking questions of of a doctor, and then Yeah, we do have contacts at the various medical agencies, Healthy human services, FDA centers for Disease control, etcetera, and so I would not hesitate to pick up the phone. Call over there and say, Hey, does somebody have a few minutes to walk me through something? So I could be best informed to notify our viewers and listeners and to do my job to the best of my cape capability? Yeah, you know, with all that has happened his getting cove. It was the last thing we all needed, you know? And how How has the political environment and you know you? You let off. You read off a litany of things that are going on in Washington. Now. How? How did this Walter the chemistry in the dialogue and the emotion of Washington today. I think everybody kind of froze for a moment and said, Okay, you know, things were so polarized in this town right now, but wait a minute, the president of the United States. Whether you like him or not, is on his way to Walter Reed Hospital. I think it was very, very smart of the White House to have the president walk to the helicopter, because at first when I heard he was going to Walter Reed, I thought Oh, my gosh. Like if the ambulance is pulling up to the white, it's the last thing they need right now that would really rattle the country. And so I think a lot of the pundit class in Washington kind of took a pause, took a breath and said. You know whether you want him for another four years or not? He is our leader at least until January. 20th, perhaps beyond, um and, you know, let's hope and pray for his full recovery. As soon as possible. So I thought the temperature came down pretty quickly. I don't think the paws of the detente lasted very long got pretty pretty heated again pretty rapidly, but I think for Several days and I was outside Walter Reed for several of those days. I think a lot of people were just, you know, rooting for some good news and for things to move on in a positive way and get back to the old bickering. Knowing that at least he was going to be healthy enough to serve out the remainder of this term and perhaps beyond perfect, Mike. If it's all right, we're going to take a quick break. And we will be back wrong with Mike Emanuel, Fox News Channel senior political correspondent. I'm Dr Joe Galante. Don't Change your channel. Dr. Joe Galotti dot com is our website..

"To be we would visit with Mike Emanuel fox news chief congressional correspondent on five thirty five central time today he's graciously joining us just after six o'clock for a conversation covered as much as we can cover the four he's got to get back to work for the mother ship my good afternoon how are you Hey sorry I'm late brother you I'm just glad that you're joining us honestly well first Mitch McConnell told his Republican caucus to hold their nose and vote for it give us the inside scoop on some of the numbers yes so this was the package that the house had passed you know in the middle of the night Friday night into Saturday morning before leaving town for recess and so you know there are some Republicans who wanted to make some tweaks you know this was negotiated between the house democratic leadership and Steve Mnuchin and so basically you know it's providing some paid leave for people who get sick extending some unemployment insurance making sure the tasks that people get to see if they have this corona virus are free and so that sort of thing so this was not the the big package with the big packages what Mitch McConnell's working out right now with the White House that would you know potentially send checks to individual people affected by corona virus is soon as early April and perhaps another round of checks in early may one of the mechanics that seem they don't seem feasible to me getting checks actual checks in the hands of Americans understand tax credits such as accounting but I mean actual checks that they're they're hanging on to that yeah well and and and look there are a lot of folks who say you know there are a lot of people who don't need him in either a lot of folks like you and I who are thankfully are still healthy and working and so we have been financially impacted but you know if you work in the restaurant industry or a bar you know you may be losing precious tips precious hourly wages and so you know can they figure out a way to really target those folks so that some of the sausage making that's going on right now on Capitol Hill trying to figure out how best to target this because you know a one point three trillion dollar stimulus package you know you would hope that it would be is targeted to those who are really suffering and not to those who are are still doing okay despite the inconvenience well I don't know how do that every person in America and that short time frame to get the money now senator Holly I think a Republican of Missouri you know talk about making sausages he is you're kind of a warning as as you're trying to put these bills together saying any multinational companies looking for Congress to bail them out you better make sure you bring jobs back to the United States that seems like a potential deal killer right there yeah and and so there's that there's a fair amount of that going on you had been sass in the last twenty four hours saying Hey you know rather than Washington doling out money why not give it to the governors to figure out how best to target relief to those who've been hardest hit and so there are all kinds of ideas flying around here bottom line McConnell's feeling pressure you know obviously they are watching the market everyday nose diving and so I think there's a sense here on Capitol Hill that they really can't wait around till next week and so I think there's a feeling that they really need to do more before the Senate leaves town and so that may build pressure towards perhaps a Friday vote or weekend activity we'll see but you know because I was here talking about serious money but but there's also a feeling that the economy desperately needs to hurry and and that these people who've been you know put out of work through no fault of their own use them some positive news some light at the end of the tunnel talking or Michael Mandel chief congressional correspondent for fox news couple of political questions quickly if I can the president peers beginning as of fourteen on these daily briefings he's assembled a team they all seem to be in sync it seems you working out very well there's little daylight between him and secretary Mnuchin today but I think that was just more semantics than anything else right how happy other Republicans both house and Senate Republican staffers the the looming out if you will the Washington establishment Republicans with the president's seeming to turn the corner not be nearly as confrontational yet I gotta go with the Cuomo that seems to be completely smoothed over our governor Pritzker and the and the president got into it a bit I think more from Pritzker's angle in the present obvious but they seem now to a tamp that down and Natalie I mentioned Republicans are happy with the president right now but also Mike pence has really risen to the occasion as a guy that was just on the sidelines of kind of a Nancy Reagan stare for the last three years he seems to really be taking charge is that the feeling with the Republicans on Capitol Hill it is I've heard great feedback from a lot of Republicans on the hill feeling like you know the president has put aside you know some of the bickering that he can get into with people the other party you know Sweden things over worked with governor Cuomo I think recognizing that as the president in office when you have this type of crisis this is what you get graded on and so I think they feel like he over the last you know several days after you know perhaps downplaying the significance with significant of it early on has now really grasped you know that this is his time this is a crisis and this is his time to lead I think they're probably some Republicans on the hill who wish he didn't emphasize crime virus as the quote Chinese virus as you did today but you know what you gonna do I mean they they they have been frustrated with the tweeting a lot of them over the past few years they realize he's not going to change and so I'm not everything's going to change but I think they they like the bipartisan spirit and some lawmakers I've talked to say they have not seen this type of bipartisan spirit on the hill since nine eleven which is saying a lot obviously the darkest chapter in in recent history on the other side in light of in light of Illinois especially Florida and Arizona last night the Democrats must be completely done the burn his extinguish correct yeah I think it's a it's not a matter of if but when and you know there was a report going around today saying it was today I think some of those that's a no no we're not talking about that were ruined reevaluating your natural source was on that whatever the DNC chair or some other member of the DNC establishment basically saying Hey senator Sanders good campaign time to go but bottom line yeah I mean I think it's you know he's done and I don't know if he's going to negotiate for something he'd really like with Joe Biden before he goes away and tries to bring his movement over to the Biden campaign but yeah I think there's a there's definitely a feeling among Democrats that they want him to go sooner than later especially since you know it's basically impossible to campaign right now there are no rallies yet last night you had Joe Biden Wilmington Delaware staring into the camera dressing any supporters who might have logged on but it's a totally new way of presidential campaigning and you know they're watching the president obviously able to you know live the role day after day and I'm in a crisis and as long as people think he's responding effectively and professionally to it a lot of folks think that you know he may get the the benefit of that the tide going to the incumbent as we go into the fall but obviously we still have a long way to go we'll see now one more brightness painted himself into a gender corner obviously considering his age and some more than likely they would consider this move I'm talking about senator Warren senator Duckworth senator Baldwin senator culture who do you put the smart money on my my dad has been for for months that it would probably be Dennis Harris yeah but you know I think what we charge did him a solid by you know springing into action by jumping out of the campaign right before super Tuesday and then coming to Dallas where I was on assignment and and doing a rally with him and so he might feel some loyalty to her I think you know the thing about Warren is then you have two people in their seventies and to your audience anybody in their seventies I know you still got plenty of life left but I think you still want you know but perhaps the younger face as a wing person and so I think Harris makes a lot of sense clover charm makes a fair amount of sense doesn't bring in the diversity but but a female B. P. I think would still have some sizzle to it and Harris I mean by Nordea's California so he's not going to gain a state with her right but but he won't also won't lose a Senate seat in I guess too and I'm sure plenty consultants are looking at it looking at email photos of them side by side what would look at them you know but we'll see Mike Emanuel before we cut to lose John Dempsey an instructor wants to write how bout Stacey Abrams in Georgia Georgia maybe I've seen it's a red state but it has dashes of purple from time to time with Stacey Abrams help Biden win Georgia perhaps idea somebody you know he's not front of mind to somebody who didn't run for president someone who has generated interest nationally you know in terms of her running for office in Georgia and so yeah I think that that's a fascinating idea and probably somebody on the short list that Biden H. Q. hi this is you need some some credentials I think to be vice president's gonna be seventy seven years old thank you my good man would much appreciated sorry no you're extraordinarily busy we'll talk to next week if not before thanks as always for had means stay healthy and well we're trying thank you Mike Emanuel from fox news joining us here in W. "For now from Mike Emanuel chief congressional correspondent that fox news is with us from Washington Mike where are we on Capitol Hill with the impeachment inquiry interesting cordon because things really moved a lot last week I mean first you know we heard about there is an issue with the whistle blower then. she said that this was crossing a line in that you can start an impeachment inquiry and then really was so like you know that we saw transcripts we saw documentation we saw all kinds of stuff and now it feels like you know things could halt to certain degree and I and I wonder what the impact will be on public opinion because Congress is out for two weeks and so are we gonna hear as much on a daily basis is there going to be a drip drip drip of information the intelligence committees coming back on Friday for the first hearing but that could be behind closed doors and so feeding this story each day is going to be a challenge and I wonder what the impact will be whether will solidify public support with these lawmakers meeting with their constituents or whether it may slow things down parts of the congressional recesses this is one of being a good timing for one party or the other with regards to the story I think there are a lot of people were wondering you know on the Democrat side of things whether democratic leadership should have canceled the recess you know if you if things are moving and this is the way you want to go then maybe you should be here every day to kind of town the message and to highlight new developments if there are any and so you know I think there's some people who say if you had this thing moving forward such a huge issue in this country perhaps it was a mistake to leave town now we'll see we'll be watching the polls carefully to see if there is movement one way or another you know the president can be vocal nonstop seven days a week on Twitter and and perhaps on camera taking advantage of the power of the bully pulpit so I guess I'll be something that could be second guessed down the road speaker Mike Emanuel chief congressional correspondent at fox news so your reference that to one of the committees will start a hearing this coming Friday which right which from the news cycle standpoint is where things sometimes get buried because people stop paying attention to news generally speaking on a Friday afternoon and they have me all the. lives to live on on the weekend sure is it possible that this stuff gets lost in the shuffle of of disinterest because Congress broadly is not here a great question and and the other point is it's going to be in the house intelligence committee behind closed doors and so a lot of classified information and so the question will be what will even get out of it is a lot of time these lawmakers walk out of a classified setting and they're very reluctant to comment because they don't want to take any chance of spelling classified information now of course some things will be you know filtered in and week out over time but as you mentioned there's a Friday afternoon you know news top if you want to bury something in so how much will people grasp of it how much are people you know perhaps sick of it in some districts saying you know we did two plus years worth of the Russia pro collusion collision collision and here we go again is it is overload and so I think in some districts there will be but I guess the question will be you know some of these key states that will decide next year's election you know how are people feeling those places and so I think a lot of us make fan out to some of those places to try to figure out what they're thinking so these committees now seem to be full on diving into an impeachment inquiry what about.
