"Tight end George kettle of your Sir Francisco forty Niners we welcome Mike to Rico of NBC to the Tolbert Krueger and Brooke show is nice enough to join us on the only guest line here on KNBR Mike thank you for the time happy new year to you how are you it was so so happy new year are we still on the line yeah no just a bit over a week is the first time we've had a chance to talk this year so I appreciate I appreciate the warm greeting the friendship well I was thinking the same thing I I'm I'm just looking at the supermarket absolutely I I walk into the supermarket to base it highlighted happy new year I just also so maybe maybe it's time to cut that one either will move on to just be winter miserable but she's old drop the seasonal affected disorder taken over for you started that is a little bit you should do it in my body do that and we we only do it to each other but we should I amaze are doing it to everybody just I DO and happy new year and just say throughout the year to see people's idea people out of it actually see well I do matter you could security when you said you're gonna see a we will be live to get upset with you exactly first US senior and we need to produce the menu it's July no but happy new year broad you're too nice what's her name buddy hi Ben I have been all man it's been a good football season you know the NFL season is a is a marathon and we but if you're doing it with the guys in the studio and this is always fun for us we start the year on the road with the kickoff show and then closed the season on the road so we're looking for to get that set a query here of course Saturday against it said noon local part three games so we'll be out there break early hopes you but folks out there what do you make of this one because you got the forty Niners who have been if not the best team one of the top two three teams the league the entire the entire season and the Vikings for being a number six seed you look at scoring defense scoring offense and then you watch them when they're healthy thing man this is a team that could be you know one of the top three four teams in the league I mean they're they're they're both pretty balanced and both can be pretty vicious up front on on defense how do you see this one your week seventeen Vikings you just got a blue passe because they they knew they had left me out for you live off of what you saw week sixteen the Monday like here we have the Packers but what you saw in Worland did you go okay we which team we're going to get because I think both the Packers and say Sir good obviously they have the same record they they both the good teams you know winning in the world has traditionally been top the state usually good at home but that might be able to handle a different and better than the bike he team we saw two Mondays before that Green Bay so which Minnesota team will we get I think we'll get the carpet one I think by Kurt because he's getting a big way and let's forget it but Monday night a prime time to play out the week from soul the other ones right by coming up with that their defense playing well I think they're going to come in with the confidence that you'll probably ten fourteen the better but the team as opposed the team we saw a couple weeks ago and then I would get close close games like these playoff game should be but I think advantage forty dollars the bye week the way they move the ball offensively spread it around defense hope you're rested I I cry lean toward when I was a big the numbers about the right place right now Mike Tirico with us in the in the guest like like when you when you do one of these games and you come in and you get a little time before the game to sit down with the you know the two head coaches do they give you anything or are in and how this Kyle have you ever sat down before with Kyle and how does that strike you does he does he share anything yet so we're not doing the game just in the studio we won't sit down do that same deal that Alan Chris will this game but I can tell you from my perspective with Kyle Kyle is always been very forthright easy to deal with we know we had was first year we have a bug we use a coordinator you can go back to Houston and you know like his Daddy was terrific to deal with and has this to give you a good sense of where the team is the what and where they are you know my number is the same way what Mike Debord not not a lot of that a lot of the stuff that goes with it we have a couple on his coaches that big would use enjoyable for the guys do in the game I would say when you look at this game you've got a couple of teams that are similar yet different because you've got piles bigger built this obviously with his opposite pedigree and Mike in defense of pedigree those units going head to head will be really exciting I think you will be in the Viking can take of the Niners and take advantage of like these are one of the corners but on the other side of the ball where will Minnesota make it they will they will they try to live off of Dalvin cook it worked the past came off of that that's the way I think they're going to go on a picnic be tough sledding at the forty dollars that the XO increase but I'm really excited to see play out once again gets going what do you expect to see from Jimmy garage below I'm of a thought that he and Kirk cousins kinda have a similar or the thought around them is that they're unheralded and they made a lot of money now cousins is obviously gotten the he can't win a big game thing off of his back to a certain extent and runs been doing it longer but I really do think that they're both in the same way you know drop below this is his first playoff this is his first chance do you see him being nervous or do you see him being as cool calm collected as we've seen him be in these big games leading up to to a Saturday afternoon yes I will I think it's going to be an adjustment I think it is for all of these guys I can tell you honestly the first playoff game I did buy a done deal five or six years a Monday night I think five years before their first playoff game that hold the game goes faster it did everything right and I also saw the Rodney Harrison about this last week that Robbie played the two playoff games obviously the patriots and it does go faster and the veterans around you help slow down so for the forty Niners you don't have the deepest playoff experience roster that starts going to be in court and that's where I think pile to really help these guys are really good script a good start to the game a good flow of getting the rob Lowe some throws the establishing a run with the office of line getting all the backs involved in multiple ways I think all that can make it easier on Jimmy just to get settled again Germond the game you know I because playoff games go so fast they're usually good teams well played you're coming in at seven eight possession neighborhood was becomes a does a slug fest if that's the case you can't afford to many bad positions you cannot get behind and played havoc ball and expect to win games a rare of the ten twelve point come back to the playoffs so good point I think it's established early something I will get corrupt low comfortable even if it's a shot down the field early on they come back to shrieking quick timing three step that kind of stuff just so you know your quarterback you'd see in the field and you can be comfortable with the full manual play calls I don't know how much it helps the grub would play the playoff game but it is far as not a plain one he's got to have as much as any other player could ever have having not played right but around is your career they look like exactly what it is you know it's just right now there's no doubt there's no doubt about it feel different and and you know you've got to keep out of your mind we as a broadcaster I know you never thought this is a broadcast you top it's because Tom never thought we don't get away with the you know what you don't have to follow through with the knuckles okay violence come on have I ever did anything inaccurate and now the pipe Terry go don't stop talking to everybody who doesn't know that I love comes over to the lord I don't know Sir right I think that we had a great all that but but you just you want to go you you start to think in your mind don't make a mistake yeah and that's worst thing you can do is we all know in anything so how can you create positive so yeah Jimmy's been around it he's seen it either experienced at all okay but now it's you now it is you that everyone's watching it you that everyone's talking about he hasn't done this before that bed bills the thing but I still get geek about in sports I love watching the guys who have had a good year they've made the move up sometime early strides sometimes you earn him while you're on the way up to the top of the mountain and you can make a special run that bad that still fascinated and I'll be excited at one forty whatever local time when they get paid when the **** they lose the toss the other guys the per would you make it out there for the first time and it is time that's really cool stuff that night that I totally agree Hey you mentioned you thought the number was right where it should be in it did seven forty five forty five and a half as for the over under how is that changed it used to be you know I'll always mentioned the the liner and then and then branch I I work with bread to then brand but right now I would just go back and forth it was like okay who could be more overt it can you or can I without like a getting somebody mad at us and usually lose Brett those moreover it was the best there's there's there's a story from the night before we got this reminder Hey you're not supposed to mention anything regarding the spread of college football and Brian had a full national noon game like I will be here something like that noon eastern nine AM Pacific and I'm up at home and watch the big game we're all we're on the same baby C. S. P. and email chain that you can't talk about this and break up that you are looking live yeah I was sitting with the hot guys are a home draw yeah we are you the all five hello it is argued Michigan game well every Dominic that what a great game in an Arbor ninety eight right was doing the game but I was watching because I went to Syracuse and my brother in law went to Michigan I now live in Ann Arbor I watch the Cape Canaveral down the field the Syracuse without stout Dr and we're going to break what a start for the yard it does get better up to scores out of the game you don't have to be you know al I always use the term the rascal you don't give me the rascal anymore it kind of do the very soft making that they don't want it mentioned in the broadcast okay but even on the on the bottom line during the scoreboard during the studio shows the lines are up there and you I I think there's always context the content to IT teams of ten point underdog between point underdog could you can tell what the respect the place we come from emotionally or mentally to the game all that stuff but overall I look we're going there I I only only because this one thing as in every sport you know sports gambling has ruined lives for folks but I just wonder if I go in there talk about out out front if it's not going to contribute to more people who are we delivering for sports money that they don't have the money that they need to put to be essential life but I do have a small societal concern about that but in general this seems to be on the highway to being embraced in so many states and I think over time to see it more and more and more become part of the conversation around the.

"Newsradio seven eighty and one oh five point nine FM. dollar cinema came Hicks is going to be able to go to a store and even the big guy is only missed three games in his career the last one in twenty fourteen so a string of sixty seven consecutive games played obviously of force inside you loves you matched up one on one with some of these interior linemen Arnold Josh Klein's gonna play concussion for the Minnesota Vikings last week and so to code it does your the likely started there at right guard so I was hoping to be able to go we'll see we'll find out here in a short time with the nineties in a play I know. a real today for the bears offensively and it's a big match up bears and Vikings here on the pop chart is Italian beef they'll get kick off our break it down for you as a Jeff Uniacke J. Hogan Bergeron Gleason and Jim's once take you the rest we want to do a quick thank you to the Chicagoland sports hall of fame had a great time on Wednesday night run was there can never actually. you tell it was the whole night it was just enough for me is very emotional and I and that type of guy anyway but just the all the all the the presentations were outstanding some really good storytelling data and it described everybody's journey in terms of athletically or personally what they all have been through what they've gone through to get there and the class of twenty nineteen was certainly impressive well you know it's really impressive it you know Joni act does what a nine hour broadcast here for the bears pre game game post game right I think he went ten hours in his speech all right Sir it was supposed to be I thought I thought it was a full five minutes without my family surprise me and flew in from all over the country so now yeah that you know and now the adrenaline was flown in it was about a good fifteen of eight I don't know if it was good but. they I think almost made a broadcast partner top there tear up he dropped his head and neck you never see her crying it took so long. but Lou Holtz though the show Lou Holtz was the tone of the whole. and he was he was sending a very serious message but will just finally get through the humor of his life and career and boy he was something that was that was an outstanding speech and now you have a good story about yeah loophole to actually a grownup might my dad coached of of football at the university of Iowa and Lou Holtz got is coaching to start a at the university I was a grad assistant he worked with my father do you ever get a chance to meet him Swansea yeah he I recruited a kid out of our high school so him and Barry Alvarez both came to from high school to recruit the kid the by the way George foreman and they were in the school I got to be both him and coach Alvarez they were recruited me but they recruited there could be other guys was pretty cool out a lot of buzz in the high school it is like special teams. this guy's without Taylor. inside the black and blue is sponsored by Schomburg Toyota and would feel lex's visit Resnick auto group dot com before we tell you what's going on now let's recap that eagles Packers game Philadelphia with a win and a guess what they ran the ball with Jordan Howard and they did a great job of miles standards to me and I could catch right I yes I I was not one guy who thought that but then you had a big game that Thursday that was a great game was that I was just over the Israeli enters the game I think I've ever seen you ever seen Aaron Rodgers get picked up at the very end of the game what made it great Ron right there. yeah yeah yeah you know you always think he's going to pull it out every single about oppose ISIS pressure though where the floor was asking that's a good question when asked why you're a football I think that's a good question who is interesting yeah we freeze so you can read body language read the tea leaves but all of that was a good right now the lions given the chiefs all they could handle in the first half run what's going on Matthew Stafford is a touchdown pass Matt Prater as a short field goal Harrison Bakir missed a short field goal of thirty six yards Casey is in the red zone right now but Detroit is on top by a ten to nothing score in Stafford playing with a bad hip and he had a choice I think one of the end zone right yeah you love staff I think is great I you know and I I don't know he's always found this year though it in it's it's the tight end position as it continues to evolve his assistant Jay Hawkins said is is is a very he's a trusting tight end and he's earned the respect in the eyes of of of Matt Stafford almost every time down the Reds on the ball he caught the ends was a very difficult throwing catch it was a it was a confident throw to a guy you know is going to make a play you know Stafford he gets like that he's had people in the past he's been able to all the football to entrust they're gonna make place very rare as a rookie unless it's you let's make it hard for me when he came in as a rookie he has earned the respect very quickly so a lot of a lot of big parts for the Detroit Lions right now offensively I had Karen Johnson they did commit to him last week he only had thirty six yards rushing while Baltimore carved up Kansas city for two hundred plus so that'll be itching see today if they continue to stick to the run game against Kansas city well first you don't want the chief's office on in the first quarter eight carries by Johnson already for thirty six yards yeah don't I get a ton but again you have to commit to it right absolutely if you if I come back as one of those guys if he he just takes a little small crack and he's he's got the explosiveness to take it to the house alright let's take a nother deeper look it bears Vikings here today because the Vikings have had trouble here at Soldier Field over the years crazy stuff has happened but the way they. are using Dalvin cook and setting up the play action to make nice easy pitching catch throws for the quarterback who already has had a great. percentage of completion percentage of his career me as one of the things around me has had exactly right last year just didn't didn't didn't materialize but you know it we talk about Dalvin cook I'll talk with the running game but you forget about the explosive play makers and Stefon Diggs and Adam Feelin Rudolph we they've got guys that are if they need to step back and throw the football you know twenty five thirty times they can certainly get it done course Mike Debord doesn't want to do that he wants to control the line of scrimmage was control Clark wants control the flow of the game the only way you're gonna do that is by staff person running you know that did they ask Kirk cousins to do too much a to throw the ball too much see through it too much last year and it is going to back to base it their strength is Dalvin cook in the brief tool that often the line that that center that rookie center they got her to read very yeah did they move out here we are he is he is quickness at the center position and and that's what sparked seven you're gonna love it because it you know I'm sure you've what they caught blocked the head right. that that that's how they live down it just don't ask as much from your quarterback and Kirk cousins will be great the crazy thing about around they digs as only twelve targeted throws he's got six catches but that guy's a ticking time bomb well Jay said that last year they were asking me to throw too much cousins how about one game this year with ten ten passes perfect ten attempts was not perfect this is all you win it just win the game just the that's all that matters is time you're just when we're only a quarter after this game your quarter way through the season I think teens got improve and grow as it is the season go I will guarantee you he will throw more than ten passes today I was gonna say at some point this is why I say you're paying how much what.

"I think he's aligned for big year. Led the team and targets a year ago that that being said you're right in saying that rushing defense has been an issue not just slash. You're really the last decade and i don't know the answer to the question on that front. I don't know how angry i don't know what it takes honestly to sort that out dave. They've got to make a tweak. They've they've just got to get better. I don't have an answer for you. I don't know because it's continually been an issue for them. The schedule does not present as a murderer's row but they're in the east so they've already got those four games. That look like easy losses. Both of the michigan schools ohio state penn state. They've also got a road game at at nebraska road game at purdue. They've got a home game against northwestern from the west. They get michigan at home. Which is my favorite letdown. Look ahead spot of the year. You don't just go to blooming michigan coming off a home game against st a week before a home. Go guys too high allstate. They go to bloomington. That's my favorite letdown. Look ahead spot indiana on high indiana because i think it could go a bunch. She different directions. I like the higher of the bore away from fresno. I liked the young talent on this team. Have no idea what happens will on the line or at quarterback back or on defense. Okay here guesses as good as mine sharing. I'm just being honest here now. I honestly don't know i know what's going on. I don't know what's going to happen. Quick thing. I didn't realize kaelin bore replaced mike debord. I believe that's right. Yes okay okay great. I like how they didn't stray too far mike to board retires but an opportunity arose in january of this year when the san diego fleet of the af lost their offense coordinator john kitten who is now l. who's now the quarterbacks coach of the dallas cowboys to take his place and i'm quoting wikipedia here takes place the a fleet hired. Mike debord reuniting him with san diego fleet head coach mike martz. I didn't know any of this. I'm glad to turn it on on our show. Does this mean that kaelin deboer is the present tense of mike debord. Yes which okay so. Kaelin deboer is the present tense of mike board. The future tense will be somebody named wildeboer. I got to ask my mom. She's she's a linguistics expert but yeah i think i think that's right. We have to learn how to conjugate deborah are you're if we're ever going to succeed in accurately breaking down so they know they did they. In all fairness they did get veteran offense. Peyton ramsey. I think was fine last year and throw deep but he was fine on sensitive. He was fine. There could be entertained. They're going to be able again better and they've got feistiness on offense. Yeah you say he said that. Somebody tries real hard. Ted or mortgage tries very hard. I'm telling you you watch clips of him. We like man. I believe here to sing at might my complement was a little bit more upbeat than that one okay. He does try. He does suitable. Let's talk about another quarterback. Okay hunter johnson making some waves. He was all world. Everything quarterback signed with clemson. Can i think wisely got out. Trevor warrants came to town because he wasn't playing over him now. He ends up at northwestern and this is a a big deal for north western. It's been a long time since they had a guy of this caliber. Playing quarterback haven't seen a mind you but at least on paper looks the part seemingly he's gonna be as bad as good at quarterback. They've ever had their does he elevate. Do you expect him to elevate the northwestern offense in any kind of meaningful way and at this juncture in mid august. Do we have any way of being confident about whatever you're about to say. So what i'm about to try to convey is the word no with a question mark at the end which is a terrible answer to your.

"Guy Michigan, and Mr Simpson before fits, Tucson's, and Brian, and JT Turner, Brian rights so out of that group, you had Frank Clark, you can make the case for Kevin Kogler, obviously, Mario Manningham was a great player for Michigan, ROY Roundtree. Jake, ryan. So you had five players or so, so, yeah, it's I dunno you still are getting guys are still getting recruits from the state of Ohio, but other than Manny ham. Honestly, I think manning him out of that next eight nine years was the only guy that you could make the arguments, maybe you'll Hieaux state really, really wanted and really got after. And so you're JJ your theory. Sounds like looks like it might be correct here that Jim tressel locked it up. Now, part of that is part of that is that was a transition from Lloyd to, to rich ride, and they didn't recruit a very well, but even even even Lloyd in his last couple of years, didn't do a great job. Recruiting the state of Ohio and, and, yeah, I mean, we're, we're discussing his coaching staffs, and let's say it was like the good old boys network, but it was a lot of old school coaches, and you, would you have to really the run English higher was one of the, you know, creative wanted. To get someone that brought some different ideas to the to the staff. But I mean you had guys Terry Malone old school gym Herman old school. Fred Jackson old school. Stan perish score best coach old school, probably Scott Leffler and run English with the two younger guys that they brought in for some fresh ideas, some different ideas that finally contributed a little bit. And, you know, that's when you saw Michigan in two thousand six they, they were very successful with run anguish as a defensive coordinator. But in that year too, I mean Andy Moeller old school. Steve Zabel old school. Run Lee old school. Eric Campbell, Mike Debord fry Jackson, all old school guys. Steve stripling. Even so certainly he wasn't necessarily Lloyd necessarily wasn't keeping up with the times. At the same time you could win a lot of football games with that type of staff and you go win a lot of football games. Because you the spread offense was just starting to come into the, you know, come into play here, northwestern Purdue. We're one of the very first goals that did it but they didn't have the athletes to be able to get over the hump against a Michigan or no high of state. Anyway, it's interesting. It's an interesting conversation piece on certainly, if you have any thoughts on it, but we asked this question earlier from two thousand eight two thousand fourteen was it worth it to get to where Michigan is today present-day situation when Jim Harbaugh had coach just forty four percent of you think that it was fifty six percent of you do not think it was worth at some of the responses on Twitter right now. No, they're one eleven versus Ohio State since then the one fourteen verse the top. Ten since then no big ten titles since two or three top ten. Is that stat from an someone just tweeted at me? So three top ten wins and twenty sixteen from Jamie hall, not yet Harbaugh's been good, but not great ask again in five years beyond the lights on Twitter. I have thought about this, too. Same thing in life. There've been bad situations that have lead to better outcomes overall. So this is a great perspective on its no hardwood, won a big ten Tyler that I'd be singing a different tune our own four versus Ohio State in tuned to versus Michigan state has best season with ten and three while giving up sixty two in Columbus. Hell no. It has not been worth. It. Fun fan base. Right. Brandon ski was tough to suffer through love the position Michigan's in now being back to being a top ten program from Jenny Dalton, I wouldn't trade any of watching Denard Seabrook Miller, walk in touch, the banner or the tradition of the team, celebrating the student's section all of that was great and worth it to me. Okay. I mean, there's going to be pants on both sides. Right. So it's. His from our good friend, Linda from Ann Arbor. Please was ten years in the desert worth it for the football and basketball programs. Emphatic no, Ed Martin scandal, ruined reputation, trash the basketball program. Brits. Right. Hoke brought us years of mediocrity and humiliation, even if we had Denard's brilliance, you know, I think one thing to, to know basketball I think they're out of it enough. Maybe I disagree with Linda take football. You know, Michael, you call yourself a fan. How much smacktalk do you still get from two thousand eight to two thousand fourteen do people ever does Mitch Michigan state fans ever bring up when they kind of own that rivalry do Ohio State fans bring up some of those years? No house defense for the most part, just pity me. So because she goes fans they still do all the stats and they'll stab the. Out of it yet. No, I think the children ages fourteen the reason why it becomes I it is for that very reason is Michigan state fans have dantonio with a winning record in his career. Thanks to tales eight two thousand fourteen and Ohio State fans are very, very pleased about the fourteen one record, which is a big part of that is still the jasmine fourteen. Right. Right. So, you know basketball they're out of it. No one's talking. Smack about the mid two thousands. Michigan basketball team. Football is an out of it, yet, you know, if they make it to a playoff or if they win the big ten or, or, you know, maybe continue what they're doing for another year or two. And they beat Ohio State and they beat Michigan state. Maybe then they, they move out of it, but. She have if people who went to Michigan comparing and played for Michigan. Multiple sports comparing Michigan to Iowa over the last decade. So you're not out of anything yet. Right. And so until you are I think it's hard to. I could see where it's hard for some fans to say it was worth it because they're still kind of endearing, there's still there's still enduring yet under Jim Harbaugh. She must finished fourteen out of the top twenty five twelve and ten in the last four years. These are terrible results, given the resources J has his disposal but he's better than hoax. So there's that brought us to what good years, but still no big tunnel. So no, not at all. A ten year span with more than fifty losses was horrible. But the renaissance of the past four years is redemptive, and I'll take it that's from John real people complain today have short memories Toledo rockets, two thousand eight. That's all I gotta say mic drop Ben Riccardi. Yeah. I mean, I know it was really low. Yeah. I mean. Iraq about whether it was worth it. Right. Right. I mean that really sucked. But. Yeah. Was it worth it? Let's go to net in flushing net. How are you today? I gentlemen, great conversation going to throw in a couple of thoughts and then hang up and let you guys discuss them. I think a lot of this has to do as well with culture. Ohio State has been all over us for a long time. That's archrival, I think, for the most part, they do feel sorry for us. They may not say that case you only can honest one but, you know, occasionally you'll find one that's not in person. So, but when it comes to MS MSU, they absolutely have that kind of proactive better. I, I hate the term but little brother type of mentality, and let's face it their football background their entire history. Only goes back what? Maybe ten years, something like that. Well, I mean they were good in the seventies in the eighties. Yeah, they weren't good in the nineties, and they weren't good in the first doctor two thousands. The only time that I hear MSU people talk about the, they're good days. The good years was the sixties, and then, and then the last maybe tennis years, eleven years. So yeah, it's, it's very much a cultural thing. Whereas with Michigan. ESPN just said we have the best. Hang out, overall, heritage for football team of, of any team. So I that that place into into it, I believe, probably more so than than what we want to admit either way. Yeah. Those eras for football basketball were painful, if it did one thing. However, it did we ground most of us. Yeah. I see what you're saying, there Ned, you know, as, as you were talking about that in the cultural thing, I was thinking this because we really have an answer this question, we have a comparative point. And that is, what would when Zack said, the basketball, you're out of it is, is, was the lost decade of Michigan basketball worth it to bring you to John B line. Now, I don't know that it's, you know. Causation one leads to the other. If you had to go through that ten years to get to John Beland, I had to go through the seven years of Richard and Brady to get you to Jim Harbaugh just turned it worked out that way. But was it, you know, does the does a seven year period? Do you can you like can you make peace with it because of where you are right now? In basketball, I mean, I guess you can make peace with it. But it's still really stunk and I don't really care. I didn't really care to through it. And as good as Michigan is now doesn't a race that awful stretch of Michigan basketball. So I would argue that the it's pretty easy to answer. No, no. There's nothing other than if you had Nick Sabin right now. And you had one Jim Harbaugh won a national championship in two big ten titles, then maybe but unless we get to that point. I just don't think it was worth it. This hold on sports. Talk ten fifty WT ticket come back. We'll talk to Brian Brown. A little football recruiting..

"Well, tried to keep it going looking for eight at a row, but a stiffer challenge that you'll find on the road in the big ten Archie Miller and crew trying to take down here this afternoon, second rank and unbeaten Michigan the venue on this first Sunday of the new year the Chrysler center in an Arbor along with Don Fisher and Eric sewer. I get everyone Joe Smith are glance at our Indiana. Governor scott. Staying as we move through. Now, the early part of the new year Purdue with that four to one lead in the next available. Boy will be a half point as the first of two with Purdue will be coming up on the nineteenth at Mackey arena. Well, Tom Allen, and his coaches are down in San Antonio, Texas. The national coaches association convention, we all know that second year linebacking assistant, coach Kane. Is the new defensive coordinator he was named to that post a last week and what Mike Debord recently retired who will be the new offense coordinator. Well, we might have the answer to that question sometime this upcoming week coach Tom was telling us he's going to be looking for a guy that's been there done that. And when I think about these two roles, you know, this is a guy my challenges I want I want to hire a guy's head coach the offense. And that's how I'm going to present it to him. And that's how I have spoken with. And and so I just think that because of my role on defense and roll on special teams, which is I feel like I'll be the most evolved in as head coach in in with the new structure that we have. And then the individual is going to be around. The offense will be a guy that's called plays before. Asia framers on that. But I would just say a guy is definitely been a coordinator before that would be preferable for me and to be able to to let him create and own culture their recruiting just the way that that side of the ball function. And the ability for them to do the little things were asked him to do to help us win games. Well, that'll be the key. Obviously as we get set for the spring ahead. And we'll see what Tom has and the news filtering out of San Antonio this coming week as to a new offense coordinator for Indiana football in our spotlight whose your football on this first Sunday of the new year. And when we come back berry farms, presenting are who's your profile is fish that stab with Justin Smith, the sophomore forward out of buffalo. Buffalo grove, Illinois. We'll be back with that conversation ahead. The Michigan wolverines unbeaten at the Chrysler center in Ann Arbor. This is Indiana. University basketball. "Well, a Wednesday, midweek, the fans are coming in Marquette, the hoosiers here to anno-, it's the Gabba games than we ought to have a dandy as we welcome you to the branch McCracken court here on the Simon Scott assembly hall along the Don Fisher, and Eric, sir. I get everyone Joe Smith it's time for our labs. So the governor's Cup update. We will be adding to that a week from Saturday with the old oaken bucket right now Perdue leading as we have moved through the fall of technically it is not Witter just yet on the calendar Purdue leading two and a half to one in our spotlight, by the way, and mentioning football, Indiana, redshirt junior kicker Logan Justice earlier this week earned his first career special teams player of the week honor Justice being now the second who should we had Jay Sean, Harris do it after the ball save victory earlier in the fall to collect the. Special team accolades from the big ten this year. You know, what his first game Logan after being named one of twenty semi finalists for the Lou Groza award. He hit that game. Winner is mostly from forty two yards out with about two and a half minutes left to give Indiana that come from behind as it turned out thirty four thirty two win over Maryland stable eligible he finished the game with a couple of field goals for PHD's. He was six for six. And really we look at this young man, who's a left left foot walk on out of mccord's will Indiana. Logan is connected now on thirteen of fifteen field goals and twenty seven or twenty eight extra points. He's third right now in the big ten in percentage and fourteenth nationally and his fifth and field goals made. He is t- twenty seven league games. Only eleven of twelve on field goals. He hasn't missed any extra points. Shares the top spot in goals league wives and his second in the percentage going to Michigan. He and his mates for the big game with fourth rank the wolverines on Saturday afternoon. One hundred and seven thousand six hundred and one on that field turf. The big house as they call it and just how intimidating candidate B foreign opponents offense. Well, that was a question posed earlier this week offense coordinator, Mike Debord, who is you know, been around the block Mike did about everything what he was at Michigan. They was offensive line coach for a bit offensive coordinator for the wolves. Marines in two different staffs special teams, recruiting coordinator and sport administrator before he hooked on. We'll Tom Allen near at you a couple of years ago. But my Kesse sense of how it feels having God in Michigan when opposing games come in to the big house. In fact, I asked one of our players today. I said, you know, he was there a couple of years ago when they went out and play, and I just asked from visiting standpoint, you know, what was the crowd liked, and he said really really didn't compare to say well Hypo steak and say things like that. And I never felt like it did either. I think it's more of the shape of the stadium. How it, you know, it's curved out instead of straight up, and so that noise kinda escapes, and so and then once you get playing, you know, you're playing the game. And you don't you're not looking up to in the stands. Oh. So I I don't know the the noise will be that much factor. Well, that's offense coordinator and assistant head coach Mike the board. And so as I say, it'll be a new experience for some of the younger kids for coach Tom going and leaving as we will on a Friday for the flight up to Ann Arbor. Of course, there's more background and some expertise to bring all they bleed Indiana cream and crimson right now, we got Mike Debord. We got my car Michigan's all time leading rusher, and he is running backs coach and assistant head coach Nick Sheridan who was quarterbacks coach he was wolverine quarterback back in the mid two thousand well from six thousand six through two thousand nine he walked on there. And Ann Arbor is a QB for a scholarship prior to his junior campaign, so Indiana. Yes, tough heavy underdog in this went against the Michigan team that keeps getting better and better led by shape. Patterson? Indiana last defeated a top ten team in October of nineteen eighty seven. And that was the year the last time Indiana beat a Michigan team..

"You. From Saturday's pit Virginia Tech game. I thirty thousand in attendance got a Bill Hillgrove bobblehead since there were only four thousand there were forty four thousand there. My friend forty four. By the way, I post they win. I I love their coach. I love to see them. Raises really get it. It has a micro chip in it. And I'm thinking, really, yeah. You you hit the button and Bill. Into your house. Yeah. There's a replay of one of the greatest plays in Pitt history that go along the cleanup dust now. That's the rumba. Right. But you could put Bill on top of a roomba, and he could ride around. Is there a nicer guy? I don't know. He's great. And is very I really enjoy the fact that I get to work with him and spend time forty five years of Pitt football this season, fifty of fit basketball and twenty-five with the Steelers. So you got your bobblehead give that the vents. Well, yeah. Yeah. Yes. On Vince, tavis fire. It's hard to watch is California. Oh, isn't it though? My God, gentlemen. It's like biblical. No kidding. I mean, we have no concept of that. Here. It doesn't exist. No, Larry at all you when you think of what happens in in periodically. Yeah. We we lack some sunshine. But when you look at the overall region like you don't have those earthquakes. The mudslides the fire thousand homes in paradise drought gone. There is nothing likely this woman, they had a sound bite with a woman this morning. She said there's nothing to go back to my house is gone. The town is gone. It's it is biblical switch. You said it's they have no way controlling any other. That's the incredible part is these things are whipped by those winds and the winds change, and is Steve Futterman told us when we had him on earlier, the the store the firestorm actually starts creating its own meteorological situation creates a win creates that he creates a draft. And then all the embers are blown around, and it's so dry out there because of the drought that it just burns, especially at the end of the summer as they get into their winter season. If they get any water at whatsoever. It's usually over the winter months this. Talked to watch gentleman. Yeah. Yeah. It really is. It's. Unfathomable what they're going through. Hey, you know, what disgusts me this, Mike Debord guy? And I was friends with him. This leash. Berg police chief you blew his arm off with the fireworks and everybody donated money. Did you see this morning? He's trying to get child support from his wife and alimony his poor wife. Here's a baby with her turns out the whole time. He's online looking at child porn soliciting sex. Horrible. What people do I mean? It's just absolutely horrible. Man. What about the Wall Street Journal this morning says Hillary is gonna run for president again? Imagine. Well, then. Well, why couldn't you do that? I guess nothing's holding her back. But when do people learn, right? Now, I just think there's probably room for some new faces. We'll see the I think that ship may have sailed, but you know. Did you see this poll John that the Jewish voters partially blamed Trump for the shootings here in Pittsburgh? Did you see that? I had not seen that amazing. I wanna talk about that. There's been a lot of discussion about that. As far as the atmosphere in the country, and how much of it is attributable to the president. And I think this attitude in the country predated Donald Trump into the United States historic number of mass shootings before he was arrested apologize before. He was. Sure historic now are people angrier. I think they are, you know, the the tribalism as we talk about more people than ever before just went in. And did you see that Westmoreland county more than half of the voters voted a straight ticket more than ever? We haven't heard the numbers for Allegheny Kelly. I'd be curious to see if the same thing was true here. I don't know. I I think I see it. Do you guys? Not see it out in the world. Yeah. Yeah. The divisiveness in. Yes. Absolutely everywhere earn what I call the flash anger the minute. You bring up the subject one way or the other way point. I it just immediately escalates to would you say and the matter how they feel about the president either side, they just it it gets ugly. Quick. Yeah. You're having a conversation at a restaurant, right? And someone turns the conversation to the president, and my reaction is I'll keep down keep it out of whatever your position is just keep it down. Because somebody at the next table may feel completely different. No, I agree with you do. And it's like, you know, whatever your position is. It's amazing. And it's and it's splitting families. Yes. Which is just crazy brother and brother building agree, by the way, want to make sure we. You mentioned Wednesday an important day where you have the anti-drug summit at orchard hill and Wexford nine until noon, very powerful in the past. But we still have nearly thirty people dying every single day in the state and from these overdoses it hasn't stopped. But just we we move on to other topics. But if this is your life it takes over your life. Just does right. It's horrible. And it's been very effective, and we hope folks learn from it and get it some sort of control out of it. Well in the victims extend beyond those who are taking the drugs. I mean, the families are victimized by it as well. From a stand point of the impact on their lives. Hey, I want to talk about off the top pretty much this gun control issue. You see the mayor wants to get into gun control Corey O'Connor on this morning. And they are adamant that they want to do something, and they know full, well, they're going to get sued. Did you see this? There's there's now three hundred ninety million guns. There's one hundred twenty guns for every hundred people. Really blew my wife away this weekend. We're supposed to pass four hundred million this year. Wow. When's enough enough or do we just buy more? We gotta get into that. I find it. Well, and then the other factor is with that many guns out there isn't the barn door already open. Yeah. How do you? How do you do anything to if if indeed you are of the bent to do some sort of control? Where do you start? Will they use the shooting in California and say, they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and they do, but the number of mass shootings has dropped by more than half in California in the last ten years, and they attribute that to some stricter something I'm interested to know our audience is a couple of things I won't ask him today. Pull straight ticket. And I also want to ask him about this a gun control issue decide story. Thank you guys mardi Griffin coming.

"The Dale back to keep the linebackers out of the mess slam. Receiver I on Stevie Scott to the left of Ramsey Ramsey. Throws it down the field this time. And again, he overthrows the intended receiver this time. It was Westbrook on the far side. And that's twice today that pay Ramsey is overthrown as receiver deep downfield again. This little move by Westbrook stopped the corner ran right behind Westbrook's doing a great job individual route running paintings overthrow receivers. You're exactly right three. They got the screen. Mike Majette now in the backfield along with reach Taylor. Here's the snap Ramsey. Looks to his lap. Rolls to his right throws a screen of a Jack. He's got raw forty forty five and was big tackle as he goes to the sideline out of bounds at the thirty two you hard live, and he put a liking on wit who made the staff of the play but of seventeen yard gay. I love the finish their just put his shoulder pads. Donna ran right through that AllState defender, I intend Indiana, the thirty two yard hoosiers moving the chains. Here Scott in the backfield with Ramsey. Here's the snap. And they faked the end around. Here's a throw down the field wide open. Touchdown indiana. Peyton Hendershot the tight end for the hoosiers got loose. Nobody can catch him and Indiana has got their first touchdown with a gay. Well, there was a lot of innovation on that offense right there. There was a jets sweep faked quarterback bootleg laughing at tied in all the way in the back side faked like he was blocking and then took off wide open over there. Paid through across his body across the field for the easy. Touchdown. Very good. Innovation and play calling by Mike Debord there. And now Logan Justice will accept the extra point kick. Drew? Conrad will hold the snap. Back is a good one. This time, I got soul. The kick is up and the kick is through at Indiana has picked up another boy. Fourteen to ten with that successful.

"Crunch time here in Indiana thirteen yard line where the hoosiers about to start this drive leading twenty two sixteen year, the final seven nineteen of this game from memorial stadium. It's been raining throughout our man on the sidelines J James has been a weathering at J. What's it like down there? Now. Right. Slow down a bit eight has definitely slowed down tremendously. Dave. So it's not affecting you see guys in the passing game ticket few more different shots offensively with both teams and rain not as bad surface holding up pretty well. So this last seven minutes of the game. You should get an honest shot in Virginia can get the ball back all -fensive to try to execute. All right. Thank you. Jay, Indiana, going first and ten now from their own thirteen and we'll see what the hoosiers have in store for the Cavalier's offense coordinator, Mike Debord. What is he drawn up? Now trying to wind that clock down as much as he can. Seattle the shotgun. Claps his hands before. He takes the snap and answer to Scott, Scott tries the right side. Just keep plowing ahead across the eighteen nineteen twenty wise finally wrapped up after a of a seven yard pickup before he's tackled by Joey blunt with his career high eleventh tackle of this game. The reason joys gotta make so many tackles dots in the secondary so much at blowing through that initial line of defense out of the shotgun Ramsey again on second down. He'll go right back to the workhorse. It's TV Scott moving over the left guard. He's got a first down the middle of a field. Joey blunt once again makes the tackle. But not until he gets to the twenty four so Indiana another first down. And now the clock is something we'll watch closely the rest of the way, six forty counting, Indiana, four point lead and the football. This is where you're looking for a Cam Johnson sack forced fumble. That's last time. Virginia was here at a similar spot about what happened Ramsey takes it himself. Moving on the left side. And he scurries ahead all the way to the thirty for a pickup of seven yards and Indiana. And I look at it down at four and doing exactly what they had hoped to do on this Dr moving it forward. One play at a time and grinding that clock down on the process. Sega down four to go short four for Ramsey Ramsey, hands and Optus, Scott. This time Scott is held up at the line of scrimmage any monster size third-down coming up now for Indiana. Third down three and a half yards to go five fifty in counting Indiana by four canned Virginia find a way to hold them up. Ramsey will let that clock winding down Indiana six make it seven of thirteen on third downs tonight out of the shotgun Ramsey waiting for the snap. Takes it drops back blitz. Common. Throwing air it out test at secondary. And it is caught by Luke TIMMY on a jump ball yet again to the Virginia. Forty those Indiana receivers have been special tonight. Like, I said if you if you're gonna press on and you don't put your hands on. The kiss. I mean, you're gonna be susceptible to the tap plays like that that is a backbreaker so Indiana now in control to the Virginia forty three and a huge third down conversion the hand. Scott Scott scurries around in the backfield not much running room. Now, he's tackle the forty one. It is a one yard pickup. But more importantly that clock continues to tick four fifty six and counting. Now, Indiana can continue to wind it down. They've got thirty more seconds. They gonna run off. They could take it to about four fifteen to play in this game before they even run this play on second down. Cavaliers a season ago in one score contents. Three in Indiana, Owen four that was two thousand seventeen here. We are one year later can't Virginia keep that trend going while they've got work to do and Diana with the play clock continuing to wind down at four seconds. Now, there's the snap dropping back to throw ball is batted into the air. Deemed jurist play is Bryce hall came on the defensive back blitz and that will Mercifully stop the clock. Indiana gambling a bit..

It's like they, it's if you can picture it with like the the mirrors on the wall, the desk where people would get made up for the plays and stuff and few like not particularly comfortable chest unleaded separate. So we're kind of in the corner looking awkward and one thing too, which I'll share with you as kind of it's very informed and the they signed and we say, thank you very much, you know, and they smile and the very, he's never wasn't Mike Debord you.
