You're essentially giving the soundtrack to this moment. This this moment trying to you're trying to and when it lines up it's got a feel like oh i got a fucking hard on route. Wow you match that up. You knew exactly. Yeah it's so fucking good how fun. Where are you when you're doing this like. Are you in the one of the broadcast booth mike. Gosh that's super cool. And was that like honestly that was canceled for kovin. But is that something that's ongoing. I've worked to olympic games since. Then you know these were also home games essentially so it's a lot easier to get a job in the home games. Yeah but if they fly you out to russia you better have some fucking pedigree pedigree. There's a ski jump. Dj convinced he's still using like vinyl in torino. There's a guy named luke as that's amazing. oh. I think i'd enjoy that. But the best part best part right before the like the day before the games me and my boss this is up in whistler boss. He picked me up at my little condo and Do we drive onto the venue. And i notice in the back of the jeep. He's got cases in cases of beer bottles shoes and he's like we gotta get all the shit in there today because we're not going to be able to get it in with these games. Start mike all right dude. Let's do it so we cover them up as best we can. We sled in You know we got all these all these beers on sled into the to the security gate and we show our badges and he is the venue director. Wow he is or at least the the the the broadcast the venue broadcast director. tv guy. he's in control of everything you see or hear when you are sitting in those stasi. So he's got serious juice. Yeah well some security person. Some gatekeeper decides to check our shed. And they say you can't bring the. Hey you can't bring mission here. And i'm i'm just sitting there going like fog dude. We need this in their royal canadian. Mounted police can walk up and go now. They can bring that in in fact. We're going to escort him. Of course the canadian cop all of our alcohol in which we buried in the snow behind the broadcast booth. Wow and so for for you know fifteen sixteen days always be where to get a beer cooler cool okay so then we're going to jump around a little bit one question. I really wanted to talk with you as well. I guess there's two questions okay one. Have you ever had a moment because with technical stuff like it's always. I always feel bad for the person whose job it is to be the one that like no matter what you have to find a solution and then because it's always like okay we're off air or whatever these maximum work. Whatever it's like that all lies on you so has there ever been a moment in either like a live. Show podcast radio where it's like. Everything just fell to shit. And you were just like. Fuck steve jobs right off the goddamn. Listen so yeah. I like listening to radio. I like not being in control. Although when i was the music director at k. Tied in santa barbara. I wasn't control. And i liked that a lot. I liked listening to the radio. And knowing what. I'm gonna play next because you love music and i feel like that's also as we're talking about getting ready. Getting rid of the soul and the localization. I feel like getting rid of true music. Lovers is such a damage too because it just then the people listening. It's like okay. It's just everything program that you can tell. There's no human binding. I was gonna say like. I think a lot of people. Even though we're all savvy with Things like spotify or looking up stuff new staff or having that year right always on the new a lotta people say like how do you find music and i think that used to be radio us even if it was even it was like i like pop music. Well then you're going to the pop music station. You're gonna listen to the new stuff that's going on or the rock station or whatever independent but i don't wanna put my music curry curation in the hands of a twenty three year old silicon valley dude. Who just graduated from harvard. Sorry dude i'm not a i want. I want the guy telling me what to listen to. I want the guy who with with a shirt going over. His belly barely goes over. He drinks his beer with a cousy. Oh and he thinks trucker hat and he tacos it. He doesn't eat at five guys. I mean thank goodness though. That right now as radio is dying and it really has died in many ways that we were at the same time that podcasts were growing because at this happened twenty years ago with radio. There's like oh well what do we do. There's no way to even connect with people's and that we just die out. But like actually i feel. It's not sorry. Not just going to say i feel like podcasts. Are actually a new breath in many ways you have to search it out in a different way but you have a voice that maybe you can even be more raw honest. Want to get really meadow. That's pretty soon. Podcast going to be broadcast. Oh yeah on radio. Yeah i can totally see that. I've been saying this for a long time. And i kind of said at the beginning when Because i went through when i first got into radio. We the last of the independence. I was ninety nine point. Nine k tied at one point. Seven k light wanted.

"And just said hey. Do you remember calling ninety. Nine point nine k tied and and and having a frank conversation with a program director about one one of the. Dj's said on the air regarding ultimate and he gets back to me within minutes. Yeah remember that. Like i was that guy that dj and he goes good to now. That's good. I love a moment. Just thinking about this idea of like the the leader of the hells angels listening to the radio going. You know what. I'm gonna call that guy rushes into his office. People feeling he might have you know. There's probably a lot of other ventura chapters guys. Yeah toward like if my boss calls me office as my first betrayed est. Great mentor. boss keith. Royer k. Tied in santa barbara fantastic guy calls me into his office and he goes on the telephone. And he's a little shaky. My cou he just that was the president of the hells angels. He's mad at goes he goes. Believe me you don't wanna be on the receiving end of that phone call. Can you please not say anything. I just got goosebumps mike. I don't i'm sorry and i was. I was scared for about a day. And then i ward badge. Yeah i'm like yeah. That's good has there ever been in any other moments. Where like holy. Fuck that kind of freaked me out. That i just got a call like or threatening calls while you're on the radio Probably to yeah. Have you know. Never been on radio. And and i think people being on the podcast. We'll get an e email. Sometimes like i can't believe you said that thing right but nobody's threatening. I can't delete but like someone calling in and kind of a costing you a little bit. I remember now. I was doing afternoon drive in a resort town in michigan. But i was doing it from my kitchen in burbank. For like six years and i'd go out there every year but one time i talked about how The hustler was a great movie but the color of money was the stupidest fucking long time. Oh and then. I played the clapton in the way that you and some guy called. The station was harassing. Call the called them in michigan. Didn't call me. Wow but the the the music scheduler the the apd there. She's i can you. Can you please stop bagging movie. Because i'm tired of talking. My gosh. that's so funny. We have people that would stop by the station like unannounced as it didn't freak me out obviously because they have a few barriers to get to us but it was like who would just drive into his station and be like pop in and say. How do these people that are recorded. It must be true with both of you guys. But it's like they think that they know you because they hear you they hear your opinions. They agree with you there. Probably talking to the radio like yeah. I feel the same way. They like the barrier relationship with you. They're gonna come in and say hi. Yeah yeah well because of that. The part of the reason for that is that we're taught that when you're talking on the radio you're actually just riding shotgun with your best friend You know everybody's your best friend. You talked to one person you know you never say you guys. Yeah but Yeah it's it's It's a very very personal. That's one of the things. I love about radio. All throughout our lives developed these intimate relationships with disc jockeys. Yeah and we've never met before in our life but we feel like we know them that there are friends. Yeah and you have to realize that if you're going to remains sane in this business people are gonna come to you. They know all about you and as long as they're cool. You're cool. do you get. Do you feel like the people that associate with you. Do you feel like for the most part they get you right or do you feel like there's a misconception. There's a lot of paint on that canvas by now. But for the most part the people who i don't know there's like a of there's a lotta especially working for corolla. There tends to be a lot of lore surrounding certain people. Sure and in many cases in most cases it's because when that was first presented on the radio back in two thousand seven radio it's theater of the mind. Were having ourselves to at pouring into it. How much of that story is true. twenty percent. yeah you know things like that. I think over the years. We've i'm incredibly fortunate. I've been working for adam now for eighteen years. That's crazy. I feel like especially at ardine but still even more than six. Oh what twelve law anyone in kind of our age range of you hold down a job for longer than eight months. it's like. Are you retiring especially radio to. They used to say you haven't worked in radio until you've been fired. I get into radio. You're totally arrogant. Like fuck you do. I work in radio. I haven't been fired. I'm fucking good. Yeah the first. The first station fire me was one of the three seven them. Landon and i called all my friends told me that i guess what i finally work in radio absolutely. Yes they all go. And they all said Sorry dude this past. Like i don't know if you still keep up with radio news. Hopefully you're not doing that at all but like I love radio news. All access dot com and it was like a month bath right before code. That's when my boyfriend got like oh but like i feel like iheart. Everyone was just letting everyone go into.

This guy's coming. Right. At me. He's on a cop bike. I'm just kind of riding solo. He's kind of coming solo. And I see this guy. And he's looking at me, and he looks at my front bumper. And he sees no license plate on there. And then the fuck and pussy coward on the cop. Bike does a u-turn. Nice dangerous on a bike right in the middle. Wilshire pulls up behind me. At a ceremony held earlier this month. Daytime ace awards more handed out in the following categories. Most awkward moment with a now dead celebrity to Bert. I is one of my favorite movies is well, I think you're mazing in it. And I just heard a rumor that you weren't proud of it or happy about being in it. But that was just a rumor, I don't know. But now, we can we can figure that out. Do you have feelings about unites? I. Which I did all that. Why did? But it was something better that I wasn't thrilled. So just for the I mean, it it it it offended your delicate sensibilities. No, don't do that to do that kind of skit with that can kill you. Good story. I think I think my wife and kids would understand if there's good news and bad news your husband's dead. All right. What's the what's the good news birth Reynolds? Kill them. Mike Dawson for outstanding achievement in musical criticism. Up. All right. Pretty straightforward hip hop. But I get it. But it's still the other guy doing half the work, maybe more. It has a very like dig -able planets day soul tribe, called Qantas Conway beach boy argument, which is another guy doing half your wraps sounded better. For the same reason. This next finished with this on. I I think it's three notes and the repeating the fourth and I was going, where's it gonna go? Where's it gonna go? If they make some kind of change here. Maybe it's points the level of dissonance. The the notes that were played when the song changed were just abrasive. It's just hurt your ear. Sure win somewhere. But how interesting. Dawson. And Mike Dawson for outstanding achievement in blocking moly criticism. It's all good. It's all good. Everyone's a winner. So we're supposed to we're supposed to give a score zero through ten. "I mean, this is a why of traveling using adventure to travel round, but do you get to the accustomed to the adrenaline? Do you ever seen a beach with with. With. Rio was a cop arena on the coca Cabana. Coconut and pushed share. It is a way of traveling and and on the whole thing of travelling at some. It's a cool way to made a lot of people in this like this high end expedition, kayaking that stuff where you go to revisit, you might that have never been done before, and it's kinda Iggy idiocy stuff in. We've done it a lot that you comfortable. You just make a decision and go with an assist, each risk as it comes along, but there's a whole other side of it where you go, you know, travel from sport going to assist spot where people go to go Sieff in like bend, Achebe, the nature where it's the same thing that going into their something that might get them and give them that adrenaline rush by going. 'cause the people that around the places you get to go to the funny get to head there in the kind of lost yet. We we're getting to the high end and getting scared and and trying to do things that have been done before. But at the same time, it's that whole similar vibe of just good times could travel good stories and and having a lot of fun which brings his back full circle, original travel, they and then you rich people. Recipes out of the boot. So one of the coolest recipes in the book is the chick goulash. I'll tell you that story. 'cause I'm actually in Prague in Czech Republic right now, and that's one of my base buddies. We used to status parents house, and his mama was cooked. This recipe the cheek girlish, so we loved it and and it reminded us a lot of the good times when you're younger and year, but Moltke friend and just limited off as much as you can in Europe. So we put that in the air, put her recipe in the little story about him and his family because I was so good to us. And so each recipes cut a law that plus we have the pebble of New Zealand tradition and some fringe cripes we've go bowling is that an Italian friend we we used to during the rices have luck marketing rules, kind of stop coughs long before markets rose fat. The Italians generally cook, amazing food compete to the Kelly's and, hey, Hey, you you. contesting for twenty twenty talking guys. Yup. Yet we're in full swing now. So that's why I'm in Prague, which trying to on the cool wicked sit up and the means caught some Secaucus we set pedal to blades. We are program is based here for the next six weeks. We do river riskiest courses will actually we not too much, but just by being on the revenue, you know a lot of skills around roadwork how to get you buddies out and and we've been doing this of us out of the spindles students almost twenty years Lynn, a couple of little things, but you still find yourself in situations. You have absolutely no idea what you should do. The section that series gonna be pedaling the the what would have sections called Mitch some fools on the now. And we ran that if he is that was that was full on, it's I five days urine, a really big national park that has very little exits in a hell of a lot of animals. We would pass thousand hippos in really dangerous in a bunch of crocs. And I also a guy we had a local, go on the rafts 'cause we appending and you take a rough support so you can get out in the flagpole. So the crooks count you in sit on the raft. What would happen if something went wrong in these, what you could walk to the road which is city case, but there's no way you guys would make it. Just on the wildlife. Did you see many snakes because Sarah scared the snakes clean writing for the hug. Did you see it? Well, you don't. You don't see snake say, 'cause I'm scared of snakes through. I've seen a few, but let freak me up nights and spot and one friend, this guy, Pete mirror through the absolute legion. When it comes to bet country Africa, he knows the ins and outs of everything how to get through any situation. And when the kids go a major away from the Reverend of the Bush because I'm freaking out about anything in there and he's just don't step on a pathetic. Pathetic is he's a snake that would just law on the path one move, but when you step on his body and and so you don't really see snakes. You see a lot of crocs a lot of hippos. You might see some wildlife kills on the other side of the river or something. But animals generally run a run away from me through far more than Sarah. She was just gonna have it On on the the head head with with the. a pedal. It's not that close. Is that close you. Screwed. You didn't. So when you win this whole studying, when you doing. So hitting down in October star, November, we're going to contain the fist. We went into let Ricky it in two thousand fifteen. I've been going on the river, but it was just me and one buddy had a hard time convincing a good team to come in. So we did what we could, but basically just laid the foundations to go back this year and we'll have we'll have five athletes on the water, which is good because you can get a safety. You can work much more teams get down the river. You can go onto the bigger gorgeous because you you can get yourself back out with two of you. You know, if you pedal to down, you might end up on a rock taking a gorge without any exit strategy with a big attainment just gives you more freedom to to do more outlay. So what does this diffent?.

"I was actually really stuck to be part of the experience. One of the other Kiwis wanna middle, which is the fist mid with one canoe slalom because predominantly like European dominated sport. So to see a Kiwi standing on the podium was was pretty special for me as well on the part of that. So the wicked experience to be to me in rea- say, okay, let's get to the fact that you also Klatt wild rivers. What's the difference between slime coal Senate wild. So slalom course is super controlled. It's concrete. They build a little hill made us high pump. The water to the top run around a coal, sits manmade and constructed to be perfect for racing, says very consistent. It's very let black and watt. And basically you learn how to be really, really precise through the guides as fast as you can internals make mistakes. And if you do make a mistake, that's just the end rice. It's not really gonna change you life than at the bottom of the run. You help them the combat, go back to the top and just do after let. Expedition caulking on the other side is when you find a river. So we like we know these river systems around the world. The one we're gonna go to Angola where you have sort of fifteen hundred meter high plant, and then you go to a water source that fades Zambezi one way and feeds the kwanza the otherwise seeing that is going to be huge Rapids. The river has to drop sort of thing hundred natives. Then you method out him planet and cheek the gradient and see if it's if it's even possible to run those Rapids. And then at some point, you just flawed Gola get on the river at the top, and you try and make your wife from point to point bay. And it's, you go to look while you go to wake old places for status in the middle of nowhere. Just you, you'll tame in the river and you just make your way down rep it off the rapid. The differences is like when you're out there, your your loan, you know if something goes wrong, you've got to figure it out and work through 'em competed with the Olympic Sud. So this really, really different, but also doing one gives skills for the other enduring the skins for slalom. Sounds a lot of fun. Get your says, why cool look possibly got road. Now, that's a real question. What could possibly on? Well, you have nothing. You do like we, we might look like we're just reckless in Rockin off around the world, but he spent a lot of time planning and mapping it out, making sure that you have exit points of something does go wrong. So you can have injury, desiccated shoulder. Other thing is an Ucok. If you get stuck somewhere, you might have to swim Lucile. You gear be walking out Africa. You got crocs hippos snakes and goalie, land mines. You've got malaria, this is a lot going on that you've got a plan and and make sure you take into account. Also when you go into some of these countries, you go excess problem. Sometimes some officious policeman just wants to arrest you. The. Old is a lot going on, but that's what makes it co. You know, year you're going to be the first person even go to those places sophistication to made a lot of people and say what you say and that's kinda why we do it when we launched Al amazing, NYMEX finance emphasized the fist pessimistic spike to.

"What do you mean? You help some local gods? What are you. Also, the cool thing was slalom, is that to be good at it? You have to go to the venue a lot. So say trek cycling or something. Basically every trek is pretty much the same. You kinda know what you're gonna get an futa as you figure out the track. Whereas slalom this song, many features on the course. You have to go and learn it combination because you don't know the coal Cigna sit so before Rio with if for I think the twelve weeks off and on the coast of the very every two, three weeks would flaw Theriault spin to exit training on the goals and fly out to recover from the chaos than what that means is we got like a much more sort of feel for the city, and we got to see a whole lot more going on. So we decided me a Brazilian God decided to make some food packages and gone. Drop them off around Rio Kazman Saint so many homeless people, and we also staying in the cheapest hotel. We could find which is right in the middle of the fella. So we had like a little. Out of a more exposure to that side of the city than perhaps staying in the Olympic village during the gangs we would have said as pretty cool, we got to make some people would probably never talk to never made a Hartley made the died in and gave them a little bit of a league out for a few days. But it was a lot of fun as well. All right. Now we're down another rabid. I'm sorry. Living in Favila made PayPal. Well, we we were living in the familiar, but Nick Stewart. But a lot of on I can do for villa, two or somebody will nine. That's where you bet. She's done some videos. We, we send our general manager Kris noble. And it was an amazing experience. He says, I think that comes through. How did you find. Did you think. Now, like we're pretty, we've been on so many with the expedition and you go to a lot of places that are kind of dangerous and you get into a lot of situations that you, you skied, self surreal felt pretty safe. But in saying that when we would the food drug, we will make you a little kind of film about to showcase and the other side of the the city outside of the games and and kinda showcases stories of the gods that wouldn't be up to buy the tickets and wouldn't be able to be part of the Olympic so much and may my buddy jumped on the chill. If that takes you up to del Castillo, which is kind of the central drug trafficking fella. And we ended up at the top of the villa standing on a corner, and then we've started hiding his. It was quite a lot going on, and then we started. So the filming a bit and in this lady came running out of nowhere. We like to get out of there would take good hour and a half of running through the villa. So we kinda skewed in. She's a yelling at us, Portuguese. Basically, we get the gist of unity get hit right now. So we, we jumped back into the chill run back up to the because they have the chill of so you can safely get in and out for the locals and jump back into the chill of than just just get. The other athletes doing. Oh, they were training. How did you go in the. Guys. Good. It was also I was I was in the final, so I got a chance to rise for the middle's ended up finishing tenth, but it was one of the bis finals. We've had enough sports just a few seconds off. The pace in in that was enough to draw teams spokesper super happy with my performance in..
