It was a great experience I. I always say that the NBA dealer amazing. Job. That they were able to set up everything in such a short short time I was. I was amazing. They they they set up everything perfect from the testing to the older TV's the off core activities in the James to practice the timing the right. This time the gains I mean everything was running. "A lot of things I definitely want to keep playing the way that I'd be laying in A. a key player for franchise. I WANNA be able to have all these young guys that are growing up in the reason. Amazing. Some amazing talents growing up. of course, the goal the goal for a guy players to win. And so that's that's in my mind to. Have, you ever thought about what you do after basketball whenever you hang up your sneakers. I honestly heaven. Haven't thought about it yet but you know we we these new with these new challenge that I have been my life with the baby coming, of course. The main goal is to be A. Family Guy and a great father I grabbed. An amazing family and I want to reproduce make sure that I'm I'm good in reproducing the same thing that my parents gave me in showed me. and. That's not easy. And so that's that's definitely the first goal than having my mouth. A good answer to good life perspective on that You know it's ironic when when you saying about having a family I, I also was thinking back to when you came to the states and with the Knicks as a teenager and Mike Dantonio was your coach in a way I always thought of him as almost like either a father figure or ankles, or you given the way you to start a together What what did you think of make as a coach in the League and Just, what do you recall from those times together with him? well, a lot of great degrade times. Mike was a key for me because he was able to help me out in the transition from Europe to the NBA, which is not an easy transition, but you was laying Europe career in coaching a Europe to it was very easy for me to debt. So at the thank you for dead at any. Is a very good coach. We has his own style. So he's always going to bring death style wherever he goes and he says a very exciting style in for a guy like me. Plays a lot of. Front three point line as yard good three point shooter. To play for him is is always great. Do you think Mike Dan Tony will eventually whether it's later this year or down the road. Be Back in the League as a head coach. Off for sure I mean he's a you cannot in my view of the NBA in our coaching situation yest- levity. The way the way that he coaches and the way that he approaches basketball again, the the NBA and basketball is great revie coach in. So I. think that he's GonNa find a place. Sure. You know speaking of Italians are our pylons have. You noticed that there are any young Italian players whether it's in Italy or in the USA that could be the future of Italian basketball. Well I also I think that there are some players, Italian players that are playing. In College right now that have good talent. I think there are some good players. Are playing actually for my former team in Milan. the the reason a lot of good talent there citing that we have some good young players coming up. being away from that he for for all these years. I Don I don't have I don't follow them much. I. Don't have a lot of names. But he's good every summer to come back and play for the nation on Demon See. The new guys that are coming out and so he's a great test. For me to see them in does them out every time I go back? Have you looked at? Doing. That again hopefully twenty twenty one when the world can if they can figure out covert have have you thought about playing for the national team looking ahead and Olympic stuff down the road riddling sure I never played So that's the goal of mine with the national team something that I need to achieve. I honestly think that I have a lot of years Latte we them because I wanted to give them. Gave my country. My fans will they deserve? I haven't been able to do that yet, and so that's something that when I think about the summer, some is in my mind every time I'm very asked focus on debt when when summer comes because you know. We need we need to achieve something with these guys that are being together for more than ten years so Have you have you talked about that with Marco Belen La in the other? Italians. Yeah. That's actually something that we talk about. So many times every time we are together we have a narrow lance together even any in the group chat that we got is something that we talk about a lot of times something that you know every every we are separate here in the states Dan when he summertime to get back. To gathering to get to work together something that. We really like? and we want WANNA. Do as much as we can. You know when I think about the Italian. Guys in the League. The KAMAKO Belen Ellie I remember gee-gee to tall me when he was with the Pistons for a little bit and some other guys obviously. Andrea. Bar Yanni before he left the NBA. But do you feel that in a way you're almost the face of Italian basketball at this point in his there a pressure that.

"This time with all this covert stuff going on across the country. is that is a mix of feedings, the res, the feeding of the excitement about the free agency. A genuine excitement that that when Benny comes in my mind when I think about agency at the same time. When when I, think about Colby you know the things that I've been through with Mike Count three and and the stuff that idea for micon three, four Oklahoma. And Quarantine, and what was going on right now the numbers and everything is you know he's not he's not a is a tough situation I'm always optimistic and positive thoughts but at the same time is not an easy situation and I don't know when he's. GonNa We're GONNA get through it way we're GONNA get through it when he's GonNa be older nobody knows I don't know. but I just hope that you don't everybody stay safe and everybody a scared themselves and they follow the instructions in the rules. Nine degree. For you also. You know see your agency a you work with the. Mike Talmon and you still work with him now but. A, you work with tell him and. You also worked with Leon Rose, who was your agent as well, and Leon obviously goes to the Knicks. Now is their president. When you think of Leon What do you think of him as a basketball person and? Just your thoughts on him having had such a relationship with him over many years. Whether I, that I think about when I think about Leonis that the relationship that we got, and also when I think about the Knicks I can say that they got the right guy. and. So I'm very happy for him. I'm very happy for the Knicks. And you know he's he doesn't matter. Agent he's in a general manager precedent whatever is going to be his career. We we have a great relationship grown on and in any such a great job for me and great things for me. working with them and so you know. I wish I wish him the best in everything that he's GonNa do but knowing him I, think that he's GonNa. I'm pretty sure that is going to succeed in every career that he's GonNa lure approach. You kind of touched on a little bit about the start of your career and those times in New York. What do you remember about those teams and you know? At that time to Amari was going off and playing the best basketball of his career Amare. Stoudamire would you what do you remember about those teams when when you are there? well, you when like I said before when you are athlete, you always remember the winning season the good times when you were winning and so my third season was very, very exciting We had a great we had dragged talent. We had a very good team by Greg is to. Stat was was a great guy. I love playing with him. Raymond Felton was are blind. gutty whispering. Great. We had you know my guy was enchanted around me. We had a Mazda We have. We had a very good team and we were doing great. So when when you are I, have experienced that CD is a little different when you win or you lose. So to win to experience with your end the garden when you win. It's is is different. Really Pretty Cool. Do you ever wonder you talked about how you guys were starting to win at that at that point and and get better. Do you ever wonder what could have been with that team before obviously the trade to Denver for Carmelo Anthony Yes. Sometimes I think about it, we'd my family with my friends. We think about what happened that year what could have happened that year And you don't the only thing that I think about his we could have we could have had a lot of fun and so not just for this season. Or many more years I gotta say wildlife from your we were waiting at came Denver in some amazing time here in Denver with the coach car and a winning season that we had so. I had a I went from waiting New York to winning in Denver. So. When when you Wayne in every every CD's is amazing. Especially your. You. Know you mentioned about George Collins as a coach out there what was what was it like playing for him because obviously, some guys around the league you know like demarcus cousins, for example, may have one view of him and some other guys that may not have been a fan of him but for you personally what was your relationship like with George Call and would you think of him as a coach? by I had a great relationship a great relationship actually talked to him late last week soy easier in Denver. So is a a as as a coach and as a guy at a great time Eat a light may be the definition the definition of him I would say snakes maybe you guys as the old school coach I don't know what that means. I heard that before. Is that he's a you know he's a guy that gives you thousand straight on what he thinks and any makes work practice a lot and you know but the results. were. Great. When when when I, was there together with him so His funny. When he sales school I think anybody that. Makes anybody coach practice hard nowadays is considered old school and. Years so Yeah I mean, look at you know if you WANNA talk about all school Tom Thibodeau with the next is definitely considered old school. So. When you're a guy like me from Europe, trust me when I say that oath school we take we take goes to a different level Europe so. It's is I would say that he was was a very easy transition for me to go from Mike Coaches that had a Europe growing up and coach Karl. So. How Mount now for you know like we we've touched on it. You're you're in your early thirties but. For you what what are your goals for the rest of your career? You still knock on wood have years ahead of you but what you want to achieve in those Upcoming years as goals for.

"But I understand both situations both is understand the NBA understand the abused in so. you know I talked to the team I talked to Sam I talked to be Leeann you know I think that you know that was something that could have happened. In the same way that you could happen that he could have signed back with Casey so but I'm very I'm very happy for for because he was a great season, will, of course for him. photos team for him and he didn't amazing job and I add a great time with him So I was great to be work with him. You talked about talking with Sam Prestige. And belly. I was curious for you looking ahead obviously towards free agency Like go billy I was curious if anything like bad affects your decision of looking ahead whether you could return to Oklahoma City or not in free agency what what do you think about the possibility of? Coming back to Oklahoma City next year is that something you would consider? Or yes, we're sure I would consider for sure when I think that when as a player when you have. Such a great time with the team and you go through what we we've been told this season leaving you know these amazing miracle season. Of course, I would love to run it back in and spend and spend some more time. You know know k. see when you have these winning season. You Always WanNa you WANNA be on a winning team. And and so of course, I will consider thing that not just something that always saved but also Sam everything started everything started with Sam. I think the Sandy, the great job building that team also being on the same page players, things, Berry he's a guy that you can talk to him every day and he was a guy that was very honest with me since the beginning season. And I had a great relationship with into so That's good here. I mean obviously that that communication between you guys is definitely important When you do get towards free agency in the off season whenever they make the official date. For you personally, what are you looking for in Free Agency from whatever team you end up signing with like what's your checklist that you want as a free agent? well, I think that the the best thing about three agencies that. You can't especially my situation you can do. You have to look at everything you will look at everything and I will I the part that I log is that I have the chance to look at everything every. Every situation that is gonNA present myself. So honestly, I don't have one direction or one thing that I'm looking at I. I want to use you career you that you you can't be a free agent every year, and so when he happens like for me to summer I, really WanNa take my time and look at everything. For you I mean, this is also your being in your early thirties. This is another chance for you to get. A big contract whether it's you know long or short term and whatnot for you with that in mind. Are you kind of look into. Maybe lack up something in a long term being that you've come off the past two healthiest years of your career. Do you feel like this is your time to really capitalize on that and get something done long term Definitely, a thought at the same time goes we don't know nobody knows the dates nobody knows how he's actually going to look. And nobody knows what's going to happen next season The long term is an option, but everything everything is an option and so. Of course, the the long term is is very good. But at the same time because of the certainty that we are leaving, we're leaving. You know I will. I WANNA see y'all Wanna see everything I want to see what was going on. You know you also had a chance to play with Chris Paul who's going to be a hall of Fame Point Guard, one day whenever he hangs up his sneakers. What, what was that experience like for you and? I would imagine him with him. He had to be one of if not the best players you've ever played with in in your career. Yes for sure one of the best news that I've played who they're definitely actually one of the best point guards. Each not the best point guard at that ever with so. You. Great to play with him especially because the guy that he has a very high Q., we knows how to play basketball win for guided me or the game that might game means and the way that I made the game you made my life way easier and so he's very likes to talk is always talking likes to communicate. And he's very straightforward as is gonNa tell you what I think I was gonNA tell him. So. We were in the same day scenes, the veteran first aid, and we started working together during training camp and also being the to maybe the guys over thirty in these very young team. We, we had to be on the same page so. You mentioned that about the to you guys being older guys on the team what what was it like for you? And Chris trying to lead these guys that a lot of them you're right there in their either early to mid twenties guys like Shea. Guild whose Alexander? What what was it like for you and him trying to lead these guys and what was your message to the young route through season I? Honestly love. You know when you have a when you have maybe you don't not everybody's the same by the way I am I love working with younger Geisen embiid the guy that they look to their listen to you work with them every day you see them improving. Shaver season, what happened we shady season? Also, we've Bazeley and all the other young guys. We have such a young team that see them working every day in and lease sitting in, you know following the right path and the right of vices every day I think is sunk in bed. You know I I would love to keep win and I love to do. And also just looking ahead to for you guys You know you talked about the uncertainty of being a free agent Darren. During this Cova time and with the market for you. It is there any? Worry or concern like what's going through your mind just being a free agent during.

"During your career to disappoint some people have. Labeled you was being injury prone but at least over the past two seasons you've actually played more games than guys like Paul George Lebron. Anthony Davis Kawhi. Leonard. Just just to name a few. So I was curious from your view. What do you say to people that consider you injury prone? At this point in your career. Well I I don't understand why do that you know honestly, you know that you j- problem was that when I came into the League as a rookie I, add a back surgery which was a big injury right away. And so when you come from, you're at, you have to show who you are right away you get injured you get kind of Aero type on your shoulder chores. And that was the that was the beginning by honestly my career I add injuries that everybody's everybody has like small injuries I only like to behave injuries, which was the my first year and the ACL when I was begging two, thousand, thirteen when I was in Denver. And so I honestly don't understand why add thing you know. Being on my on my shoulders but. He's just really not facts. Defects are different. I'm very healthy and in playing like you said seasons we. Brought no problems playing you know almost every game and Most of the games that I didn't plays because. It was like a team decision to the rest was not heavy bean injure so. I. Think he started little beating New York by first year but then you know I even have made on the two major injuries but. I've been playing very healthy Hugh season so. And so you talked about. Obviously early on in New York I remember having you here with the Knicks, you know it's ironic it seems like a lifetime ago you think about it how long it's been you know before the Carmelo trade and you go into to Denver befor you I was also curious now given that you're in your early thirties and you've had a chance to Kinda establish yourself in the League now. Do you feel that Your underrated maybe in a sense or. Appropriately rated what what do you think of your value around the League at if you were on the rated or not maybe maybe yes a little bit underrated faith I think about it. You know it's the things that I think it might be like a perception from the fans by people in basketball in from coaches everybody. Day they know what? What the value ease they know what's going on what I can bring to the table every night for the best thirteen, twelve, thirteen years. Reception wise like from the fans or around the league underrated a little bit I will say yes. And you look at this past season. You the Oklahoma City. Thunder you guys made the playoffs and he gave the Houston Rockets a really great series in that first round From my vantage point, I don't think a lot of people thought you guys were GonNa be a playoff team and then you you make it in you have A. Pretty good season overall from from your vantage point. What were your thoughts on okay. Sees season this year. You know playing alongside Chris Paul, and what you guys were able to do. I think I. May be the best ignition. He's like Miracle Seasons. Last year end sear. Like you said, nobody expected us to do what we did. Is Not, just that day that US Wayne maybe like thirty gains thirty, three gains I remember when I was in la NBC or even worse but. That that's that's what I mean when I talk about being on the rated that that's that's when that thought comes in my mind because you know the the season were amazing seasons and we did something that was not by anybody. And I think there were both less year even better but both miracle seasons because we. went to the playoffs but I thought that when I was in La we, we want to games against Golden. State. When of course everybody thought that was going to be four zero. we did a miracle comeback, the best comeback, any NBA three from being down thirty one. And they going this season where not just we made Leo we were. We were faith. We went to game seven Houston dog that we should won that series but. You. Don't mazing amazing miracle seasons. So you touched on the Team this year and the Clippers team that you were previously on before they got obviously Georgian and Kawhi Leonard You know when you look at those situations You talked about how they warm expected to be teams that were in the playoffs With that in mind do you think that? You could help a team that. Maybe isn't considered a playoff team similarly to what you did would okay. See in the clippers and how they both exceeded expectations. I mean for sure I have enough confidence wherever. Whatever I do whatever I go this that's what was going to happen I. Did it. You know we didn't we didn't. Okay. Weiss in a row two years in a row so. The feeding that I have in the confidence that I have made me being desperate shortage something that that I can do and that we can do we know that I can do in A. Team. What were you surprised that Billy Donovan your coach this season in Oklahoma City decided to part ways. I mean I was I don't know maybe a little surprise..

"Dan Looks Heavy back. You know I need you to do take. Somebody's groceries feeling like just give you. WanNa hear about anything else and I think when you're depended bit player see the beauty of playing defense align is I couldn't blame anybody but myself like being real. It was just me and office alarm. Who's like a yard away but when you're a receiver and you're wide open now you're like? Oh Bra and your demand and you're getting paid and you're supposed to be the fixer co says keep it internally. He is is this burst through the scenes and it's a collective in that locker room was like bread. We need more than words and he's not giving it to what makes it worse is. That guy comes through the door with his groceries. The Guy who's saying Dan that looks heavy is sitting in a hot tub drinker sal and he's he's smoking a Cuban Cigar. Dr Ron and everybody else is like you know. I'd really like some of that. The team sits back and says well we we'd love to but it's all right there where everybody else's frustrated and this needs the needs to be some sort of progress. You can't manage a guy with one hundred million dollars guarantee. It's just you can't yeah and it's tough because they're changing their style of play. This is a team that is running the ball all the time is if their quarterback is a non issue they might run to single-wing for as much today trying to run it and so for cousins like we can talk about A. I'm glad he admitted it but I mean we're year plus into this. You're supposed to be the guy that helps us get over it and he is not played to that level and the fact that they're managing games with a twenty eight million quarterback that is ridiculous in the national football all the and I know that you have to pay quarterback what the market bears for men at some point reduction has to match the compensation and guess what places doing now by Houston Rockets Older Tillman Fatigue and author and and I'm GonNa Start there before we get into all the James James Harden Westbrook quest shut up and listen your book. What's it about a harpercollins approach me about eighteen months ago and said hey tell him we watch picture. TV Show we see you on business shows and sports shows and we love your tillman `ISMs. Why don't you just tell the tools that took you from having one restaurant to be the and we're that's kind of what I do. It's not stories. It's it's the ninety five five rule. I know what you know what you don't know. There are no spare customers. I take the word no out of your damn vocabulary and it's just kind of the things that I did to become successful so if I read this book will I someday be on TV and be like Jason Jason. You started eating at one point five billion another. That's right. That's billion dollars pulls the trigger on probably the biggest trade of the off seeing a why did you guys do that. C. P. Three for Russell Westbrook. I'll tell you and it kind of goes back to the book at the end of the year me and Darryl and coats sit down and we're in my office and and I even said this. We do ninety five percent of everything right. We won more games and the rockets everyone in the last two years. What is the five percent were missing and we think Russell Westbrook Brooke is at five percent and we feel like he's going to give us something in transition and his athleticism to pick up our pace that we did not have now now. I think Chris Paul's unbelievable. I think Oklahoma City is going to be better than anybody's giving them credit because Chris Paul has a lot of greatness left any but I think for the Houston Rockets today. We feel like that. Russell Westbrook made us a better team. I remember watching that son of a gun runner up down the court last year when they beat us twice and saying what would it be like to have him on our team. I mean he he is so athletic now. Take us into your mindset and the level of concern because it uses rate because it's going to be a shared experience one ball to guys who really do well with the ball in their hands. What are you thinking about that. They're talking about it and the two of them have to work it out. I mean Darryl and me and Mike and talk about all all we want but the two of them have to do it. You gotta remember this. James and Russ came into the League at the same time Chris's four years older in basketball years. That's like twenty years okay when you look at the longevity of careers. Those two guys play together in Oklahoma City. They played ball in. La I together. They've known each other a long time. They're both thirty years old and they both want to win a championship. Okay which is good for me okay. They're going to work this out. They are working outright now. This wouldn't have happened remember. This trade wouldn't have happened if James. Ord didn't say I want to do this okay. James Harden pulls the trigger as much which is me and Darryl so I heard you say after the season or at some point last season about one to steal your attitude into the franchise and it makes level of toughness you were talking about one of the things I find interesting about Russell Westbrook and I want your thoughts on this obviously his he plays the game with an anger and I've said for God that handles the ball that much you you gotta play the game with more joy. If you're angry it affects your decision. Making what do you think about Russell's attitude and and is that the right fit for the Houston Rockets. Will maybe add the toughness. You're talking about and maybe I'm missing that have there been any discussions about Russell's attitude in the energy he plays with on the court well we love his energy and one thing we all know you can never make good decisions if you're doing it angry and in my my culture is to win and it's no matter what I do but the rockets are winning franchise and when I inherited this team with a great coach great player Great General Manager of Great Operations President. I'm very fortunate okay but you know what they know how bad I want to win but I don't want to win any more than James. It's horrid didn't want to win a championship and rest Westbrook and Mike Dantone Daryl. They all WanNa rain so we're all on the same page rest is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that him and James is going to make this work and if Russia has to slow down a little bit. I'm sure he's going to slow down a little bit but one of the things things I love about. Him is the way he plays and. I think that's what James loves about. Him is the way he place but the two of them have to make it work. Mike and going to do it. I'm not going to do it. Daryl's not not going to do it but I have faith in those two guys now you may Mention Code Sedan Tony. Is that Taito or bust this season for coast Antonio. I'll tell you right now. It's absolutely not titled Or Bust. Mike represented well from very great agent and we just weren't able to make a deal but you gotta understand the business world. I live in my under under contract okay I. I didn't even think anything of it and somebody said Oh how is going to be a lame duck coach in me and Mike set down and we said let's not worry about it this year. We'll get it done after next year me me and Mike and Mike will be the coach. I promise you year after next okay mic and IRA good place and but he's under contract attract. We'll put him under a new contract next year tillman. I don't you can pass on this question because Carmelo. Anthony was just a short period of time. I don't know how will you you got to know him so feel. Free to pass if you don't but are you surprised. CARMELO's not back in the league. I loved his interview he did with Steven Ace Meditate A to I felt like he humbled himself was in the right mindset. Are you surprised no one's giving him a chance. I I'm one hundred percent surprised and I never got a chance to get to know him that will and but this guy's got a lot of basketball left anym- and and he could not have been more of a gentleman and everybody told me that you talk about this in my book is I know what I know and I know what I don't know and they they said Hey let's let signed him and I said that's fine of. Y'All think that and when when they decided to release him I you know I'm not gonNa tell my basketball people what to do. Okay now. Do I have to give the final you know yes absolutely but but it's something really big has to happen for me to say no when they all want to go the other way and but I'm extremely disappointed that he's not back in the league even though he might not have been the perfect perfect fit for us. There's a lot of teams that can use Carmelo Anthony and his leadership and he is just a true gentleman every time I talked to him one thing you may not know. Is Your Star player. James Harden is trying to one leg three point shot in or out on that clear checks definitely gonNA maclear but but I don't know if James is going to be shooting that or not let's shoot at thirty five percent when he does have a problem problem but that's James Is James and what I love about James and I talk about this in the book again be the bull and that son of a gun is the bull and he he his neck and hurt hurt him as I can't see as orm won't come up again still going in the game and a time when all athletes or tender and soft James Harden is the bull and I just live in Fort. Hey It's me I love your energy. Go to read your book. Appreciate you signed for if you could because you're new to sports ownership relatively. You just bought the team. I think in two thousand seventeen how do you see yourself. NBA owner or a sports franchise owner. Is there any other owner in football or basketball as you point to and say that's how I want my brand. That's how I want my identity to be. I'd probably see a lot of different ones that I like certain pieces just like I never they had a great mentor in business but I try to learn from different ones stephen a always refers to shorts bremmer. I don't know that's a compliment or or not but I love Stephen a but but but I truly try to learn a little bit from all of them and but I'm I'm different remember. I've been out there a long time. Matter of fact I was a partner in the rockets between eighty two and ninety two okay and then I was a partner in the Texans you bought them when you're you're just a child no partner. I remember you like older. No I believe it or not. I was only like twenty two when they sold for ten million dollars to Charlie Thomas so I owned a percentage of them and then I lost the bid in ninety two and less Alexander paid eighty million eighty five million. We had a bit in at eighty and then over the next x twenty five years. I had to pay two point two billion form but I sit in the same seats I've been sitting at for twenty five years and so I've been around it and like I said then I was with Bob and the Texans but I had to sell it when I.
