"I think the alliance will help because they were historically terrible last season if you look at how often Sam Darnold was under pressure or how little hell. Before initial contact, it was unbelievably terrible. In fact, I don't think talk enough about how much stress Darnold and bell were under last season that being said they brought him Gore and they didn't bring them into stand around even it's going to be your retaining. It's been in years past, but he's going to get it probably sixty touches a game and don't forget about the Michael P Ryan drafted, but we mixed in a little bit as well. So I think the volume comes down for him I still don't think he's going to get the. Inside the five, which will keep his touchdowns in check I think the lower volume overall will keep the yardage down obviously, but I do think the efficiency improves a little bit with that completely overhauled online. I know it's tough. I just a couple of days ago I tweeted the new aligns right last year's five starters and this year projected five starters completely different of course, and you know people talk all about there's GonNa be no chemistry. It's going to be a problem. You can't do that especially in this shore Nazis and it's it's terrible but I think it's GonNa be better. You know it's not ideal, but it's has to be way better than what they put on the field last season. So that is good for bell. All that being said Steve, my line two hundred and ten carries eight hundred and thirty four yards rate in the vicinity of what you're looking at. But again with that's a fourteen game projection by the way. But when it's close, I'm always going under I. think that's one of the most important lessons when it comes to play or process like you talk about earlier be pessimistic at the end. It's GONNA pay off way more than it doesn't. You gotTA check him out on twitter at my clay NFL. You can tell he is an absolute stud. It comes naturally it's in the blood line to grew up in Pottsville Pennsylvania where football is king he's been drinking Yanling since he was four years old that why he is so good at this stuff by really appreciate the time again, check him out on twitter at might play NFL that way you can get all those projections when he posts and everything..

"As, well, right now. In the conservatively with him is that you know he's kind of been conservative last couple of years. He's coming maybe his worse year in the NFL season but you know he goes to Tampa Bay now in his with Bruce. Arians. And Look if you look back at his entire career is a play car going through multiple teams whether it's a you know the last year with the buccaneers whether whether it's the cardinals, the colts all back to the steelers. All of them have been vertical passing games. I don't think he gets Tom, Brady and suddenly become super-conservative. Let's play Tom Brady and do a bunch of you know short throws dump off some kind of operate like they did in New England where they didn't really have great threats at the wide receiver position while they have those in Tampa Bay of course, with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin down the scene with Gronk, and of course OJ. So. I do think if you look at what airings offenses done, it benefits Brady he's GonNa, push it down the old and it would not surprise me if he had a big time bounceback season so again. Brady you can go on and on. There's a laundry list of players. I think benefit here. You know I think it's a good point about the play caller because sometimes it's the offense coordinator. Sometimes, it's the head coach. Sometimes, it might even be like the quarterback goats some people don't know that. You'd actually analyze that because I don't anybody's ever really done people look at coordinators people look head coaches. They always do the separation is necessary with the play caller Steve when you do your prep. How often do you take into consideration the offensive play caller and his tendencies? Very rarely because the offensive coordinator tend to stick with what he's been doing all year long. So early in the year would be the only time when you've got to change and then when you have a change in offensive coordinator, suddenly bring in a guy that likes to run the ball more. Obviously that's going to have a big impact. What's interesting is that when Mike talk about players optimistic about like radio like lamb I gotta tell you my. I'm not all that excited because everyone's excited about brady everyone's excited about lamb. You'RE GONNA pay for it with the premium tax. I believe in the numbers where I get excited is when Mr Klay tells me players doesn't like because what happens in the media you're not very popular when you talk about players and teams that are going to do poorly and. So when I found is that there's more positive than negatives that are putting out and when a negative is put out from someone in the media from ESPN, etcetera more often than not that's some of the strongest plays and those are the Irish get excited about combing a pacifist I like betting against guys. You know I think it's a fair point Steve because. Mike's data about Aryans thrown at deep and Mike McCarthy an eleven personnel CD land should be on the field the whole game..

"Of course that'll help you make the best decisions for fantasy, but also for prophets. Steve, you mentioned the last couple of weeks about how you're more more doing beds in the NFL with every passing year I. Guess my question is, how much do you look at some of the fantasy projections guys like might play when you're making the prop beds that you do? Oh absolutely. A universe of different projections as a starting point is a fantastic way to start with betting. But let me emphasize speed is everything. Let's talk about Clyde Edward. Solaire all the math guys can spend. Weeks and weeks now analyzing how good he's GonNa be doesn't matter the time to bet on him was ten minutes after Damian Williams opted out. That was the gold. Mine is five to one that went offensive rookie of the year actually got a piece of this right when the news broke and so what happens is time to analyze there's time to look at all your spreadsheets and there's A. To, recognize, Hey, I got literally ten minutes to make a bet that's going to be better than any of these math guys are ever going to come up with because Edwards layers odds were based upon him splitting time with Damian Williams. Now, that's not going to happen and the oddsmakers are sleep at the wheel because they've got a handicapped baseball wnba hockey NBA and they don't have time to be nonstop modern twitter and the like and so what happens is literally on a weekly basis, you get bets like Edward Slayer, not to win the rushing title, but the win the offensive rookie of the year at five what Really good points. The might gum I want to get back to your article because there's a couple of different pieces of it. Right? You did one that was play call or impact. Analyzing thirteen seasons of offensive play caller data, and then you actually had takeaways from it. Right. So you had players that you felt like actionable items based upon that including Tom Brady, the falcons, rams, and giants passing games cowboys, Rookie Dede lamb I thought was interesting who were some of the upgrades whether it's for people fantasy football or profits that you like based on what you found doing the play call or analysis. Just as some very quick background. So of course we've had it's very easy to to follow head coaches. GM's offensive coordinators that's such as well documented over the years but what's hard to identify on a week basis who is calling the actual place? So I used our team of thirty two NFL news reports for each team. They went back to two thousand seven. That's a as far back as we have kind of all advanced data and they went week by week and helping me out we started every single week than I applied to our database and and it's been out the result of me that a lot of interesting trends and and again that's GonNa. Leave out in these pieces but. You're right. I. Mean There's there's obviously a lot here live process thirty two teams here you mentioned CD Lampe obviously like that with the eleven heavy Mike McCarthy offense us, of course, head coach. Now with the cowboys how Tom Brady I think that's an interesting one especially because he's still available in the double digit rounds of fantasy drafts and I actually liked the over props in him..

"A bunch of injury issues so I'm being stranger things have happened than the colts having to put Jacoby sat for her stretch of games here or there during the twenty nineteen season <hes> I would go Brian Hoyer here okay number two. We're getting to the final five so these are my five I admit to I had percent number two and I actually think you might have talked me out of it. I think I'd move percent down now. Hoyer I mean someone who has been effective or at least competent and in some bad places Arizona Cleveland <hes> the I I think the people the people remember from him. The most would have been the year in Houston where he you know off and on had the starting job is compete with Ryan Mallett eventually kind of took. The reins went on a quick winning streak a year. He threw nineteen touchdowns seven picks averaged seven point one yards per attempt but just was absolutely useless in a playoff loss to the chiefs and Kinda got run out of town after that I think people member that game he was searching thirty four for one thirty six foot four picks. I don't think that's representative of his broader. <hes> body of work though no doubt I mean forty eight touchdowns thirty picks in his career he is this is another guy pushing for ten thousand career passing yards. It gets a little run in place a brady this year he might you might get there. I mean I think the word for him is volatile right. He's he's definitely going to look look terrible like you just mentioned at times and other times with three or four touchdowns and win you a game so <hes> you know he's he's I. I guess I may have cheated a little bit with him. I may may have given him. The Patriots bump a little at my rankings because we're thinking about we're thinking about what happens like four to six games. He's in there and I think the system will not to mention that they're run heavier. They've been in years past. I think that would help him kind of hold down the fort just the genius Belgium and I think the interesting thing to say here is look at someone like Nick foles where he came up he was developed up by Andy Reid and then by chip Kelly and has had Doug Peterson and he's had great coaches but he's been able to basically play a significant portion career under those coaches and in very advantageous situations when he was in this situation in Los Angeles are in Saint Louis. I should say I think he was terrible. <hes> with Brian Hoyer it's almost the opposite where he spent most of his career not playing for the guys who helped developed him in New England. I mean Bill O'Brien was there in New England but bill O'Brien and Bill Bryant Bill. Oh ballot check to me are two different things well Bryan which announced two different things. I mean he really even though he spent now. Oh it's going to be his six seasons. Remember the Patriots for not mistaken. I mean he's only only thrown a fifty one passes for the Patriots so it's not like he's had a real opportunity to <hes> schoff what he can do in a very advantageous spot for him so <hes> I do think he probably deserves more credit and that patriots bump then you know maybe we might be thinking about giving his production elsewhere..

"We're already on rosters. You're just we're not available. There's a few exceptions but your eye barring a trade for like again. We'll talk about them in a minute but jacoby barring doing that Indie wasn't going to let him go cheap. I mean this is about as good as they could have done. I think yeah yeah and not only that but also playing a quarterback who fits into your scheme lying. Maybe they could have got <hes> you know a a blake bortles like it i. I don't think realistically Blake. Bortles is is going to play this game anyway. I thought they should have got tyrod Taylor. That's in the natural to me given that Greg Roman and had success with tyrod Taylor in buffalo but astle talking about tyrod Taylor head of elsewhere yeah no doubt and you don't talk about next Sherman not all right. Let's go. He's a little bit. He's in my I hear you know so he is. He's been a competent starter for sure. I talked about him a lot last off season because I was optimistic about the browns so and that was not a popular opinion so I kind of do the rounds you know. The key with Taylor is an again. We saw this with Cleveland. Say What you want about his inefficiency throwing the ball. Last season is inability to make big plays at times. He kept them in Games. There should have beat the saints in New Orleans. I mean they. They were competitive early on while he was a starter her despite his problems but he doesn't turn the ball over in that is such an underrated asset in the N._F._l.. I mean you look back at his sixty two games in the league sixty nine total touchdowns twenty interceptions options. He has a lot of value with his legs. We know so <hes> again. He's kind of an odd fit for the chargers offense for sure yeah very suspicious signing there but at the same time this is a very good chargers team so if they again they just tell them scramble. All you want get the ball to Keenan Allen and one hundred Henry and Mike Williams. Don't turn the ball over. You're good at that. You know maybe we can continue to compete here so <hes> again as backups go he's. He's a good one yeah. I think his skill set is really hard to appreciate. I don't think it was a great fitting Cleveland but given that you know we saw Baker Mayfield. Take a big leap forward after you Jackson left. I'm inclined to attribute some of that to you Jackson as opposed to tyrod Taylor <hes> <hes> I I think he is an upper echelon top tier backup in my opinion and and certainly I think you know the chargers don't typically backup Philip rivers. They the guy barely place <hes>. It's a weird fit scheme wise but I think absolutely I think he is a you know one of the better options you can have independent of Schemer independent of concept. We're back with more of our N._F._l.. Discussion with Mike Clay here on the bill barnwell show in a moment but first guys hiring used.

"I don't WanNa say me maybe you I think you have the ability to put off. You know could take an N._F._l.. Caliber quarterback quarterback in and made them look like better just The thirty four now right yes <hes> speaking of quarterbacks who are not getting better as they advanced in age. I would go with <hes> Matt. Sean of the Atlanta Falcons where I mean it was that season what the Texans where he was throwing sixes seemingly every single week that was <hes> two thousand thirteen that was six years ago now <hes> and since then I mean he's thrown nice thrown out hundred passes and and turned six picks on those one hundred passes <hes> a sixty six passer rating over that timeframe guy really has not played as to the Ravens as not played very much at all in the past last five years and <hes> if Matt Ryan were to get injured. I that would be a really scary situation for anyone who owned Julio Jones or Calvin really in fantasy football yeah when I was when I was in college which it's been a while now when I was in college match Shaab in Michael Vick run the same roster in Atlanta I mean that was a pretty good what do Obama and it was like wow hi. How are you that good at the quarterback position so shop of course now back with Atlanta? You're right one hundred pass attempts over the past five seasons. He's now thirty eight. It's it's obviously obviously not going to be good. I mean he's one of them guys. It's obviously a seasoned veteran a ton of experience. Maybe he could at least again. Maybe you could avoid turnovers. I don't know Oh like you said he has a history of pick. Sixes baby could hold down the fort for this team which is pretty talented but you're right. It's hard to count on this guy at his age and considering how little he's played in in recent is the number three is Kurt banker..

"At this point to say pretty confidently that he is absolutely a last-gasp totally desperate. <hes> you know emergency option not much more yeah. It's Kinda crazy. Believe it or not he's pushing for ten thousand yards like he's almost at ten thousand thousand passing yards in the N._F._l.. Unbelievable forty eight touchdowns forty seven interceptions six hundred thirty one rushing yards to I mean he's been he's been out in the field. You'll a lot and it obviously has not worked out for pretty much anyone so <hes> yeah. It's it's kind of insane he still around and I mean man he. He's attempted at least i. I'm like looking at this now. He's attempt at least one hundred passes in six of his eight seasons. <hes> that's incredible. He should spend at the right place at the right time. I guess yeah <hes> in terms terms of who I have next. I Have Denver here so it's either going to be drew. Lock <unk> the backup or Kevin Hogan <hes> <hes>. I you figured you lock is going to be groomed as the starter. I don't know that he's GonNa play in in twenty nineteen. You'd figure that if something did happen happen to Joe Flacco they would turn to lock as opposed to Hogan Herbert ripping who was also on the roster I mean do you think that this situation with the broncos are desperate to make that mover they trying to be a Saas possibly I think they want Joe Flacco to play every game and take them to the playoffs this year. I think that's what they want. I think reality is they're going to struggle you have to you really good teams in your division and you're going to be most likely battling with Oakland for the three spot and you're going to be trying to hang on for a wildcard spot and probably call short so I fully expect much much like a you know. We're GONNA talk about the giants a little bit. Probably you know certainly Washington. You're going to see lock make some starts in the final month of the season at least and maybe earlier if they start slow because listen. I don't think this is a high take at this point. It was a years ago but JOE FLACCO is not good I mean he he's just not easy pedestrian. He's up. He's a starter are are but a bottom end starter in the N._F._l.. Does not move the needle as nothing with his legs. You know lock is ideally the future in N._F.. I'm Denver. I'm thinking about Twenty Twenty Wannian beyond I would wanted to get him some playing time this season see how good he is. If he's the answer because you know especially if they go five and eleven and they pick early you need to know if you need to glassdoor one of these these these super hyped up quarterbacks in the twenty twenty draft or a flock has guy you can count on because you're gonNA kick yourself if he doesn't play you don't draft a quarterback and you're going to twenty twenty with him as your starter and it's a disaster so I do expect.

"Who Do you have next next for me would be good old A._J.? McCarron yes in Houston yeah Excuse me Shawn Watson Yeah. No there was optimism about McCarron coming out of that <hes> stretching twenty fifteen with the bengals where you took over for Andy Dalton. It's worth remembering. That was an offense where Andy Andy Dalton was having a career year. There was a ton of talent on that team at the skill positions offensive line was healthy and very effective <hes> you Jackson was doing well as the offensive coronary scenario a very <hes> it was actually pretty exciting offense and a lot of ways and so <hes> edgier careless playing a very easy stretch of defenses I believe at that point of the season <hes> <hes> and we saw it happened in the steelers game the bengals defense <hes> knocked on Antonio Brown late they injured rothlisberger and they really couldn't do enough on offense to win in that game until the very final bits of the game which point <hes> the steelers did then come back and beat the Bengals as their birthright. It seems like I mean I you know against someone who was tall successful in college as good things I guess but <hes> a guy who I don't think I I think the League has evaluated him and found him to be pretty wanting thing outside. If you Jackson of course tried to trade to Madryn picks for him a couple years ago <hes> and he Jackson currently if I'm not mistaken does not have a job in the national the football league so unless he gained control somewhere you'd figure A._J.. McCarron is going to be on the fringes of the League for another year. No doubt <hes> in terms of my next back you mentioned Nathan Peterman. I'M GONNA head to Oakland where we have to similar quarterbacks. Although I feel like it's mean to Mike Glennon in my Glennon and Nathan Peterman into people who I think the idea of what a quarterback might look like when it comes to add additional N._F._l.. Model two guys who have not been especially good at Football Mike Lennon <hes> you know I think someone who was okay in Tampa. Certainly I think is upside with stated up or overstated based on how he played in Tampa in twenty thirteen in two thousand fourteen. Are we saw Chicago pretty quickly. In twenty seventeen granted they had Mitchell trubisky in the wings but <hes> I think a quarterback who you know <hes> certainly not when you compare him to Nathan Peterman upside but a guy who has been you know a really check down quarterback only averaging six point five yards per attempt as a pro..

"After term got hurt in years past they had you know they invested in John Kitten and Kyle Orton but eighteen that by all means you know they have the resources financially Chili. They don't need to be cheap. They they have guys assignment. They have Catholics. They could make it work didn't target anybody. Besides Cooper rushed back up <hes> Dak Prescott guy who does run very frequently doesn't it hasn't had a situation where he's looked injured. I believe so far in his career but I think absolutely this is a very vulnerable spot for the cowboys and I think I had them twenty-ninth with me. It's not not that far off. It's in the same year I had the Jaguars thirty seconds. I find this to be so shocking to me because with that Prescott got maybe you could make the case that all you know. He hasn't got an injured. He looks healthy. He's going to be our guy you know. I think we're GONNA be fine with the Jaguars who signed Nick Doc Focus offseason. Nick foles has been hurt every single season. He's played any significant stretch of time in football. I think it's been he has not played more than ten games in a row without getting hurt hurt <hes> so for the Jaguars to have tanner Lee and then a rookie and Garner minhsiu backing up Nick foles. There's a really good chance we're going to see one of those. Guys start a game in two thousand nine hundred and that's really scary. It doesn't seem like it's very well planned. I had all the jacks yeah no doubt about it I think that <hes> and and what they had they had had <hes> <hes> Cody Kessler at some point they cut him loose which was kinda surprising for the reasons. You just lay down. They seem to like Menchu a lot. I know a lot of people thought he should be going well before the sixth round of the draft but this is about this is about my expectation so I'm with you. It's definitely risky for sure and they're kind of just throwing darts. The late rounder minhsiu Lee was a six rounder last jazz Komo Alex Magoo by Seattle of him so I think I'm pronouncing that right. He was a seventh round or so. They're kinda throwing darts at a young kids and just hoping one of those guys is decent enough the lockdown that number two job but yeah I've been there is the favourite for that job to see how it plays. Who Do you have a thirty one thirty one? I Have Minnesota Sean Manyang now now again you know he was a guy who the rams drafted in the third round and May that was again a little bit surprising but again he hasn't done much in in in for the rams they come Lucy. Only fifty three career attempts as never thrown a touchdown so that's a team again. You know they've invested a lot at in Kirk cousins and they're gonna I need him to stay on the field because it's Mandy and Kyle Slaughters there as well and <hes> Jake Browning on the roster. That's that's about it right now. Yeah I mean a team that maybe they have cap constraints. They spent a lot of money elsewhere where you could see them saying hey we just need to save money somewhere. Back at quarterback might be the spot but <hes> a team that does have a good chance of competing for a possible super bowl. If everyone stays he's healthy so little surprise. They couldn't convince a backup here. There who <hes> you know of a slightly higher quality to come take less money to come play there you know even if it was going to be someone like a <hes> <hes> like a blake bortles. We'll get a little later unit. He's not obviously an ideal backup at least at someone who you know a has possible shot at competing for a super bowl so make Barton in Los Angeles. It's not the end of the road necessarily either but you got the idea. I think there was opportunities to go after someone who might be a little more exciting than a Sean manion who I have in the twenty six spot <hes> again. I think it's basically once you answer this bottom tier..

"By most show I'm Bill Barnard and we have N._F._l.. On disgust yesterday N._F._l.. Season rapidly approaching and one of the most qualified people certainly E._S._p._N.. If not on the entire planet wow to discuss the national football league and to discuss the minutia of the National Football League is the person who does great work for us in the fantasy space a great football writer in his own right when it comes to the actual stuff but also fantasy and thinking about <hes> you know different depth charts different how how can be affected by injuries and let's discussion. We're going to have today talking about the League's backup quarterbacks and joining me to do that is e._S._p._N.'s. Mike Clay Mike how are you. I'm good at some high praise. I appreciate that so <hes> honest honest I think think as someone who writes about fantasy encourage fantasies closely as you do I mean there's so much value when it comes to the fantasy player in terms of monitoring depth charts. It's annoying okay. WHO's how how is the twin impacted by an injury or a change of personnel are changing coaching staff and you've rated in recent weeks about these slot receivers in the N._F._l.? Third verisign the N._F._l.. You've written about the handcuffs running back. <hes> and I think in that same space obviously <hes> the backup quarterback in the N._F._l.. are important in their own way. Yeah yeah no doubt about it. You mentioned minutia. That's that's definitely what we're getting into here and sometimes I joke that I could list off fullbacks and backup nose tackles and all that fun stuff because you're right when you're studying studying every position and do the projections for the sites looking at punters and returners and every little tiny thing you can think of <hes> offensive fumble return touchdowns sounds every little category so when you do that you do need you do end up having a good feel for even backup quarterback situation so this is I enjoy the stuff I like looking at handcuffs backups and and looking at the upside and what that could mean for a team if the star goes down that should always be factored into things like prognostication for teams right and I think realistically the we only have to go back two years and think about how important is Africa backup quarterback we and the Eagles haptic foles and Nick foles had struggled as a starter elsewhere. Certainly he'd been yeah yeah that great half season with chip Kelly but then lost his job via injury <hes> must traded was bad but the rams. I think it's fair to say was in you know almost retired with the chiefs chiefs briefly and then eagles back up and push into a role in Carson Wentz got hurt and won the super bowl so I mean that's something you think about it. I you don't want to ever have have to rely on a backup quarterback. There are all these famous quotes about how basically we're screwed up. You have to put our backup quarterback in but we know now that's not necessarily the case. If you ever good backup quarterback you might be well positioned to hold onto your spot. If you do have a carson wentz situation yeah no doubt about it and I mean Nick foles. Let's be honest. He's about as volatile as they they come right..

"If that's the case can't shallan. All ready got hurt last season. Missed a couple of games. Lamar Jackson like you mentioned only play the second half of the year. So he didn't see him over a full season. I agree with you. I mean, I think that Lamar Jackson super talented. I think that you know, some semblance of this offense can work. But I just think it's going to be tougher stay healthy. And I wouldn't wanna have to rely on that week to week. You know, there's going to be games for he'll play meaningful role. But just thinking about that wide receiver Depp, charted, you know, I know this in the back of my head that they're thin there. But man, it's at least need and Chris more, and that's pretty much it. I mean at this point, they really have you know, some significant significant to do it adding help at wide receiver and then Josh Allen. I mean that was never it wasn't like the offense. There was built around him running the ball just happen because the offensive line wasn't great because he didn't trust his return. He was still a very inexperienced quarterback. So. I think they're not going to they don't they don't want him to run the ball away at the ravens wanting the Mark Jackson to run the football. The ravens wanna build their offense round the March action the bills, you know, they want us around Josh homme talent. And it could be like a Mitchell Trubisky thing where you have a guy who is inexperienced and still is a great athlete and still has the opportunity to make plays and the could run the ball and find a good balance. But you know with Allen, I think that they wanna see him throw the football and the the move they made this off season all the investments they made along the offensive line receiver. They're designed to put him in situations where he can throw the ball. So between the two of them. I think I linked towards Jackson is more likely to deliver a pretty significant impact with legs and they would Josh Allen next season. Yeah. No question. Both could potentially be fantasy relevant by the way because of what they do their legs. It's a huge component to it. And I have Jackson at over eight hundred yards with six rushing touchdowns. I've Allen over six hundred yards with seven touchdowns. Obviously he got work here the goal line. And I, you know, I think both offenses should be pretty similar. Offense scoring most likely. Remember the ravens were bottom ten in offense touchdown per game. When Jackson was the starter last year, they really just relied on milking the clock and letting the defense do the damage, and I'm not I'm not sure they're going to be able to do it. After that overwhelming purge of talent on the defensive side of the ball. That's tough. The bills are probably the better defense in two twenty nineteen really underrated defensive they can get something on offense that could be a quietly impressive football team. But Mike we're out of time. Always appreciate you coming on the show where can people check out more of your insights into fantasy football. And the NFL is a whole. Yeah. "Insurance. So he switched and saved a bunch, which was awesome. All right back here on the Bill Barnwell show. I am now joined by frequent contributor to the show. So in order gray article about the things he learned in building the ESPN fantasy projections for twenty nineteen recently that has our pal. Mike clay, Mike. How are you? I'm doing pretty well how you doing Bill. I'm good. It is the middle of the offseason would just joked about this before we went on air, you are still grinding. I feel like I'm taking some quiet time. I'm sort of like exploring some other sports, and you're out here putting the hard work in. And that is why you were so good at what you do. You are working on the fantasy protections for twenty nineteen in new how many tidbits did you find for your column? I did thirty nine for this one. It seems to get bigger every year. I don't think my editors appreciate. But every year, I seem to discover more. Maybe that's maybe it's a product of you know, maybe perhaps the new NFL we're gonna get into it. But there's more relevant players than ever as scoring continues to rise. Yeah. Thirty nine observations in all pretty useful. Like, I was reading it. I'm like, oh, these seven are pretty dumb. They're all. Relevant to what's happening in twenty nineteen. And in really a lot of different fascinating situations popping up, and you know, some stuff is still obviously up in the air given that we are still waiting to see what happens in Arizona with the first overall pick and Josh Rosen situation, it's still some free agents out there, but I think we should start. And this is going to be perhaps a difficult one for chiefs fans start with and it may get you some heat, and I don't wanna do that. I wanna have you know, I I know that you want to have a smart conversation about it. So I wanna put you in a situation where you can in terms of Patrick Mahomes, the league MVP what do the numbers say about what he is likely to do in the twenty nineteen season. Relative to what he did during that incredible and VP campaign last season. Well, I mean, the numbers are overwhelming and say he's going to drop off and that just based on league history..

"I love the two for the money references keep them coming. So I'm going the Jags bounceback spot. There are seven half point favorites over the jets who I don't think are very good and give me them minus one and a half in a six coin teaser. And then for the second team, you know, I I looked for a little bit, but I'm just I'm going New England to win this game. I think Miami. I'm not saying they're fool's gold. I won't be completely stun if they won the division, especially after the first few weeks. But I think New England gets this game. They just have to. They're not going one in three, and if they are, I'll lose my teaser. But I'll take the patriots minus a half a teaser to to to join the Jags minus one and a half Jacksonville as a seven and a half point favorite coming off a loss. They will be very popular teaser option. A lot of guys are going to do that six pointer and get it down to minus one and a half gets through the numbers of seven and three. I would imagine New England will also be popular teaser pick, but I think we're gonna see a lot of money on the dolphins money line this week. Doug, I think just with the patriots coming off two consecutive losses like this. I think dolphins money line will be a public play, but the patriots will certainly have their backing. They always square dog. There you think I'm a point spread? Well, it's possible possible. We might see that this week little. It's a little early to tell. There's one other dog on the card I'm looking at. I just don't know if I can stomach taking CJ Beth 'Red and the forty Niners. I just how could the chargers be laying ten and a half points. The charges are. Such a bad home favourite, and we'll see. I may add that as we get closer to Sunday. Okay. All right. We'll keep an eye on that. Keep an eye on halftime lines. Can I on live wagering really get Twitter involved, but as always Marie, thanks for the time man. And you know, we'll, we'll keep tabs on everything as we move forward a lot of football this year. Yeah, something tells me we'll be in touch between now and Sunday. You know, I, I mentioned also I like the Redskins last week. I left it off my card, so I wasn't that bad. I did like the Redskins in that spot the the forty Niners I'm looking at right now and there's another game I'm looking at as well, but I'll keep you abreast of everything. What was your play for? Mr.. Musburger last week. Oh Seattle I gave I gave Mr. Musburger Seattle. What's gonna be the when? This. Houston. I mean, I'm gonna go with Houston against the colts. I like I try to give him my my five star play. You know my top of the line, John Anthony play. All right, bud, good. Catching up. Has been baby bankroll bonanza. All right, that does it for this NFL podcast for the behind the beds. Remember the college football podcast was Wednesday, September twenty six. Thanks to John Murray for both podcasts and obviously Mike clay making his fantasy. Or Mike clay of the fantasy world making his behind the bets debuts. We'll see how this prop bets do, but it's just nice discuss that because there's so much information out there from all different angles. So it was good to get his perspective on that. Thanks to everyone don't forget download rate and review the behind the best podcasts that really helps us and don't forget. "Into the game, you kind of your money. That's how you find out for my pets were safe. That wouldn't be juice. Juice point spreads the prop bets, but teasers the parlays from Vegas to view. These these behind the bats. Welcome in another behind the bed spot cast. I'm Doug kazarian. Yesterday was the college football podcast coming up NFL coverage. We're going to recap the week, three patriots losing record. Are they? Are they still a contender in the AFC we'll we'll chat about that. Also. The chiefs is the verdict still out. They've been lights out and the Rams undefeated are they unbeatable they obviously have a big game coming up tonight on Thursday. So we'll get into all that with John Murray, the west gate, Las Vegas super book. Recap the card also play a little baby bankroll bonanza and then making his debut on the behind. The bets podcast is Mike clay from our fantasy football coverage is an analyst who specializes in wide receiver and cornerback matchup, so good to get Mike on. We'll do a little betting talk, particularly with the prop bets for all the key games, the high, the primetime games, Thursday nights, Sunday night and Monday night games. We'll get into all that. Just a reminder, yesterday's pot. Cast all college football that was posted on Wednesday, September twenty, six. So down though that as well. But straight ahead. We have NFL talk, talk nerdy to me all. We're barring a segment from the college football podcast, Brad Edwards, not in, but Mike clay is in for little NFL style of talk nerdy to me, Mike. How are you? Man? I'm good. I don't. You know some people take offence to that. You know, being called inert. I do not. I've I've accepted that long ago even when I was young grade school and high school, I knew I was sports nerd so and just in general. So I'm cool. Well, I'm glad Brandon. I actually talked about it on the last time. He was on the podcast and we were both like totally cool with ever being called hell ya. I think it's a, it's a sign of fictionalise. That's where I'm intending it to talk about football for a living, like come on. I mean, how can you complain? Right? So you do a lot of stuff with fantasy football, your fantasy football analyst here you do stuff on the podcast. You do stuff on Sunday mornings in the fantasy football show, which is all the. Contents. Great. You focus on matchups that's one year, big things. And I think there's obviously overlap with fantasy and then betting especially prop betting. And because especially because your focus on receivers and defensive backs matchups and I just thought it'd be good to at least discuss, maybe kick around some few props and just let our listeners sort of into this space where I think there's always wisdom to be gleaned. Yeah, absolutely. Do the player projections inside the fantasy game as well been doing them for a long time, almost a decade. Now always tweaking that model. As you know, you're always trying to find one new variable that can help you. You know whether it's betting or fantasy football. So yeah, it's been a natural fit for player props for a long time. So let's start with a Thursday game because it is such a marquee game with the Rams hosting the Vikings and versed overview question any adjustment to your power ratings or your projections, given that it's Thursday, short rest, especially with him traveling, actually..

"And you know, as you said, if you want to judge teams after how they perform offensively and Minnesota, I think you're going to have seven or eight stories where teams are saying we could really improve next week, Jimmy Garoppolo. Here's a weird one, and I think it speaks more to the Minnesota defense Harrison Smith, their speed at linebacker. Kendricks Jimmy Garoppolo was just ten of twenty with two or three interceptions. Two of his three picks on passes that were ten yards or shorter downfield any NFL quarterback, Josh Allen tyrod Taylor. That you complain struggles with accuracy, those guys complete like seventy percent of those short passes. You know, the dump off to running back, stuff like that. That just tells you Jimmy Garoppolo is not inaccurate on passes ten or fewer yards downfield that means the Minnesota Vikings defense is flying. Yes. And Jimmy Garoppolo is not going to struggle on throes of ten yards or less against the Detroit Lions. I think that's just a fact in the same way, Sam darnold did it the lines do have some pieces there have some town at corner Glover Quinn's probably still a pretty good player. Gerard Davis is an interesting player who struggled in the passing game last last year as a rookie out of Florida. I I see. I think Mike clay would would agree with me. I know because we've talked about the lines before. I think this is a has a chance to be a top ten offense in terms of efficiency. Maybe the best offensive line. They've had in a few years if healthy, but I think the defense is going to struggle. I think they have. Couple levels of problems namely front seven. And I think everybody's going to say, oh, the San Francisco forty Niners found their passing game, Jimmy, geez back and it's just like, no man. They just had to go to Minnesota once and others are going to do the same. Yeah, I think that's certainly fair. So we pick two favorites here so far? Yes, few pretty comfortable favorites. I think we're both picking the chargers were picking the Niners. Let's get to the rest of the slate here in a second, but first guys, no matter what you do in the bathroom to get ready Dollar Shave Club has everything you need to look feel and smell your best. It's not just about shaving. Granted, y'all have to shave, but there's more that you do in the bathroom than that. You have to clean up. You have to smell it. You have to take care of some business. "We just talked about some of the week, one surprises with Mike clay. Let's get to these week to elimination games. So when I say limitation game, the reason I'm saying that is because look back to two thousand two. When the league went to their current playoff structure, the teams who are zero and two after two weeks, they make the playoffs eleven percent of the time that is not good enough. So basically we are a barring a surprise once every few years you'll get a team to start so in to make the playoffs. But in general. And I went to team is basically done with their season when it comes to being competitive. So we have five games between one when teams this week. We are going to go through them see who has a shot of winning and going to one and one and who probably is looking at the end of their season. Listen terms, the playoff chances after two and joining me to do that is a frequent contributor to this podcast is ESPN's Chris sprout Mr.. Sproul. How are you. Good. I I like the idea of shutting the door on teams into the season. Mid-september burn your tickets, stop writing about him. Go go on Seekie and faith. Their tickets over the course of the seasons of subscribe five games to get to. Let's start with what might be the biggest mismatch when it comes to these gambling of a quarterback, making his NFL debut with buffalo. It is the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles chargers. Now, granted, look at the line for this game. The chargers are seven and a half point favorites in buffalo, which I shall and making his debut. I'm just going to frame this this way because like we can't have any conversation about it. Otherwise. This is the exact sort of game. The chargers with lose is absolutely the chargers. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but anecdotally, I can tell you the chargers have a long history of making this flight east and struggling. And yeah, absolutely. There's, but if you want, if you looked at the game objectively, say, yes, the chargers, obvious favourite. If you looked at chargers history, you say, oh, this is a great time to fade the chargers, but that number get up and then go against hard. I mean, it's just it's, you know, if there were Nathan Peterman and it was a Nathan Peterman revenge game. I think I'd be more confident, but we don't know what's going to happen with Josh Allen. You know, the bills are certainly opening up their their scheme last resource with the Shawn Watson granted, I don't think he's going to turn into the Shawn Watson, but week one, they had a useless quarterback start the game. They bought an Allen or they wanted to Shawn Watson late in that game for pricing. Tom savage didn't show that much until we three, we three. He was the best quarterback in football until he went down. I'm not saying to expect that Josh Allen. What I'm saying is there may be some stuff we were not expecting from the bills. There are certainly going to be some downfield place to be had against the defense that really struggled against tyreek hill last week. Yeah, but I don't see tyreek hill on the field. And I think the problem with the transition to Josh Allen is twofold. One. Unlike the Shawn Watson, we don't see that added element. I don't think you get pressure on Josh Allen, and he turns a negative five yard play into an eleven yard gain on third and ten. And Secondly, I I don't. I don't really buy any science behind. If you let this guy sit for his entire rookie year, that's gonna make him better quarterback. I do buy it a little in the case of Josh Allen, where I think there was work to be done on him, his accuracy, his timing, his ability to see the field at this level. I do very rarely, I, if you started Baker week one, if you started Sam darnold week one based on the amount of college games, they played against certain competition in the kind of kids. They are thought fine. Go for it. I don't see what Josh Allen based on what we saw in preseason. And yeah, I legitimate concerns..
