"I'm kind of a model underwear, no huddle and two quick little wide receiver screens and they were making place for but even to have adjusted to that, and they're taking that away now. And if you don't have that And you have in your media passing game another writing. You gotta find a way to move the ball. Somehow. This is the kind of trying to work through now on and you know again, everything is attributed to something else. Wide receivers dropping the ball. I've never seen that the way it's been for them the last couple of weeks Now these guys, you know, they're legitimate wide receiver, NFL wide receivers. They're not waver wire dudes that showed up in the middle of the year. They're legitimate wide receiver. What's going on? Deante Johnson? What's going on with that guy? Yeah, that's that's the guy when he came out that that was one of them. No strength. You don't have to worry about you Catch the ball for you. And so it really is. It really got to the point there and he did. He came back the second half against Buffalo, and he caught all four of his targets were going one drive there, So I think that Removed at least some of the doubt in question. And maybe you know whatever it was Dealing him there because they got to the point there, where he dropped the first two on third down to start that game against Buffalo. Then they benched him. And at that point, it was like, OK, this isn't just anomalies in just the one game thing isn't just a You know a rough stretch when it's now you're talking three or four games in a row. Multiple drops every time that there's something mental here. There's something wrong and you were talking. I think you people said that you get there, Steve last reference or not, but you know the bigger deal Pittsburgh but he's kind of lost it. Pitching couldn't find the strength, so you know there's something member going on there. Well, see, now he's like they went back to the second half of you. And you know, he made the catch is there so maybe you could put it behind them? But you're right. It wasn't just anti Eric Ebron. That's the finished career, but you never got hands. You go live with that for the Steelers you sign and he knew that when you find him, But, you know, Ju just had a couple drops. Even he's been generally sure handed throughout his career. Other than a couple of high profile drops. He has that, but Yeah, well, you know, it's past. The point was anomaly. You know, you know the Baltimore game. Okay, then have two weeks in a row that we're still in three weeks in a row. When there's you know, multiple drops like that. It's something that Again when you're off with the struggling That certainly doesn't help. Not at all. Kristie Damn. Ski Pittsburgh Tribune Review No Joe Burrow. Carlos Don't live Traded away. Gino Atkins is done for the year. This Bangles team, even for what it was going to be before this season is a mere shell of that right now. So other than complacency What the Steelers have to worry about in this game. I mean, I thought that way. That's the way the Fandor sir. Look at that. That you know this was gonna be a purpose, You know, because they've had to stand the stuff schedule here down the stretch. Um, with three a playoff teams in another Bangles with the with the bills, the cold in the brown And you know, it looks like now Washington's gonna be a playoff team, the Ravens so that they may be close up the stretch here with Father six games against playoff team. This is the one that isn't now, obviously, um, you know, it's a division game may have seen North in the kitchen as I'm Mike Carlson like the college. They have the North game, and you know they never actually Kimmy's, although you know the past five or six years. Yours have slept the Bangles now going back to what? 2016 so but, you know. Member. The viewers point the Dallas about a month ago, and they were still undefeated that point and face the back of quarterback and Garrett Gilbert. And you know the Gulf is serious. The Cowboys team everyone to game and start with the beat them and you know they had their truck You know so much. Just the good of the record is a few hours, depending They've had a lot of you know, Denver was ex members. Not too good with the medic. Close game with them. So still road game in the division on Do you know in a team that lost two in a row in the Steelers? So you know, I don't think there's any Steelers certainly are at this point after the last couple weeks aren't approaching is this is gonna be a gimme that's for sure. No, I don't think there are no gimmes in the NFL anymore, and and you're right on that. But Would have loved to have seen burrow on the field with all those games under his belt against the Steelers. Right now, I think this would have been a hell of a lot more intriguing game than what it is right now. Chris the Danske Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Good? Yes to this program, Chris. Thanks so much for your time. We appreciate it. They thought I was in Florida students and study. All right, And that's tonight. Last time that the Bangles beat the Steelers here in Cincinnati, September 2013 Geo Bernard ran for a touchdown caught another touchdown pass. "Favorite spy over seventeen or eighteen points he was the the underdogs cover however I think it was like seven times out of eight against the dolphins specifically ords nanny game and just any and he just he and I don't think I think he's bill doesn't have bad John Harbaugh instinct of running up the score necessarily although Brady doesn't lie to come off the field not right but you can you can you can take that what you will with. Ci Yeah I was stood him as well. He wouldn't wanNA. He went to relinquish any reps. I'm sure tool what is going on in terms of the scoreline his firm Gaza Gaza says as neutral what possible good reason to the giants have for not giving the ball to Saquon way more than they did versus the cobblestones started in exhilarating fashion saquon. It would seem to tail off and he just wasn't given enough action what was going on that 'cause. They're chasing the game. was that the fool the opposition they think we're going to go with our best. I weapons have been go ahead. Go with someone else. you know if they had a better set of receivers I might I might say that makes a lot of sense but they're wide. Receivers are not particularly threatening Ebony Ingram is it you know is a good pass catching tight end but Barkley looked like he was you running in great form and I I'm surprised not that they didn't give him more carries with they didn't get him more involved in the passing game he's gone from. Ayman appreciate the the question aiming at the NC show if you WANNA fall asleep and vitamin throughout the course of the week and Alex and Tom and the guys on social media will be picking him up and we'll try squeeze him into to one one of the shows what is the NFL stance on tapping players up while still on the contrary different of course to to European football sense that it's not near as legislated. Is it yeah I mean. You're not supposed to there's not supposed to be any interference with the player while he's under contract which is why people were guessing that the Patriots might have contacted Antonio Brown before he was actually released by by Oakland and suggested he might WanNa come here the the reality is that generally know these things anyway his agent drew. Rosenhaus would have known that the Patriots were interested in Brown because they offered Pittsburgh a first round draft pick the year before before him you know when when he became available but print but Pittsburgh took a lesser offer because they did want him going to the Patriots knowing knowing the Patriots were annually their competition for a playoff spot you know or or a super bowl spot even so adult anyone needed to tell drew Rosenhaus at the Patriots would be interested in having a piffle now. Wait a minute yeah. I think yeah there are ways around ways around the rules. I think is what was saying. That seems to go going regularly just as it doesn't in European quite frankly all right. Thanks for all of those questions. I we're GONNA wrap up. Today's show with what we agreed top. Five free agency picks top five free the agents. It's it's an interesting list because and the guy at the top is the guy who it kind of pivots around because when the new free agency rules came came in when when players got free agency then it became a different kind of situation previously when when free agency was a kind of thing where you'd been ignored by other teams so oh my number by number five guys. Dion Sanders right right 'cause Dion went from Atlanta San Francisco and they wanna Super Bowl and then he went to Dallas and they want a super bowl. that's kind of hard to argue at number three is night train what about number four number four sorry scary. Zimmerman who came out of the USFL and and then went and played in two teams finally Denver and yet was was a for two decades he was he's on the all decade team in the NFL for two two decades plus he was all USFL a great free agency. Pick up There's a lot of guys obviously unless I like guys who no other teams didn't want and then came along guys like say Mike variable or John Randall but they didn't make the cut number three's night train rain lane. He was working in a factory in Los Angeles had his last Football Gig was with the Fort Ord team in the US army and he just went to the rams office with his scrapbook and said look. I can play football. Give me a chance and they worked out like one day and said Oh maybe about simpler times trying gets a double double dip on the show today yeah he does and number two is Johnny Nitis who was playing for the Bloomfield Rams in a semi pro league around Pittsburgh where they the fields were so bad they had to put oil on the field so the dust clouds didn't make the players invisible then he went to he had been cut by Pittsburgh he went a to Baltimore and obviously had huge career with them a number one is the guy who was really the first big signing when the new free agency came in when players were allowed to become free agents and put themselves on the market and that was Reggie White and Reggie white obviously came out of the US Sevilla's well with Philadelphia went to Philadelphia in the NFL and it was like Lebron James People forget that he he basically made a whole drama out of where he was going to sign and Green Bay was sort of like the least likely replaced shall we say quote Unquote Non Urban Situation the packers had misguided reputation and he went to Green Bay and obviously the result was instantaneous. he was dominant there. They won the Super Bowl there and you know I think that was probably the the biggest effect free agent of all time because it also also opened the door to other players who said Oh well. I can go to a team Green Bay. You know an and have a good time and put all their so reggie. White Outta sight the a trail blazer our site indeed. It's reassuring as well to hit. Johnny nights is one of the legends of the game was overlooked by so many people love stories and Reggie white nicknamed the Minister of Defense. That's another one you know. "He might work out. What's I think what's his arm is strong. It's very very strong that that's not going to be the problem. The problem is going to be getting in the time to to get those deep patterns which which is a question of poke both protection and identification. He's got to see where those mismatches are going to be and where the guy that he's going to have to look for is and then he's going. You have to check down and in preseason. It seemed to me that check downs were the problem because he was having trouble. Identify secondary receivers yet at a slow the process of moving from the second to the third option that will come with time obviously but the question is whether his lied is going to give him that time to do it. I think garrison is going to be in for a really tough sees a one movie. Mike quarterback tipping and Cam Newton because that's been another substantial story I think in in the off season the Carolina Carolina Panthers quarterback of course here is blows hot and cold goes from an MVP level season to to not and and he's a colorful character off off the field no doubt about that but there's a lot of concern surrounding his shoulder and he's had two surgeries in two years and some rumblings suggests that he's it's not in good shape at all and as a result the panthers season could become derailed as a result. What do you think's GonNa Happen there. How will that play out. Well you know Oh cam is basically the same age Andrew Luck and when I wrote a preview of the season my preview for Carolina could've left it at two words cab shoulder which is all we'll choose to lead and the key in the end he was he was obviously limited. Last year the the second half of the season he just could throw the ball and you can't you can't get by with a quarterback who can't throw the ball. I think that I think that it if it's the shoulder. It's always going to be a problem. It's very hard to come back without a lot of rest and that's that's always going to be a difficulty for him. He certainly gave you know. How much more could you ask for a quarterback to give than what he gave. Last year try try to keep that team in contention and if it if he is healthy if the shoulder is under at that is a good football team that's going to it's going to be contending in a very very in. What is you know a fairly difficult division this season but I I kind of have my doubts about that and with any other quarterback it becomes a much less good good with any other quarterback on their roster. If becomes much less good football team defensively they're going to be tough with. They're going to have problems you. Could you could sort of say will turn it into a Josh Allen because oddly enough buffalo is is almost a carbon copy of Carolina. They were really good defensively last year. Josh shall turned out to be a better runner than anybody suspected and he's got a powerful arm which they're trying to harness better this season which is why. I think Buffalo's one of those dark our course teams you. You need to keep an eye on. I'm glad you said that because my column for ESPN the season name check buffalo is sneaky good team so I've got the I'm Mike Seal of approval yeah. I think we're on the same boat with that. One and you know I wouldn't I wouldn't be shocked to see them. Grab a wildcard out of out of that division and I think they're going to be a tough match up for the Patriots huge as well other team said he's not going to be as bad as some people are suggesting now. I might be completely of Morocco this one. I don't think the giants are going to tank as much as some people the. I'M NOT SAYING THEY'RE GONNA make the playoffs be careful what word to use because everybody's throwing tank around right now and at tank to me means deliberately. Try to lose all right but I was using the sense of that I don't. I don't agree with you there. I think it's going to have a certain amount of problem segmented. The one thing I do agree with is that that what they need to do right now is is to start ally at the start of the definitely because when you have a quarterback controversy especially with with a young quarterback who hasn't really played what you what you need to do and what makes sense to do is to play your veteran and let him play himself out out of the job if he if he plays really well on your winning that's a win if he if he does then you can put your your backup in your quarterback of the future. Ed and say okay now. We're riding with sky now. He may not win for you immediately because that's a big task for any rookie quarterback in the NFL unless you're unless you're like like bed rothlisburger and the steelers protect you they run the ball forty times a game and only asked you to throw twenty passes the giants as well to Ilana no economic. There's no room for sentiment but but in a season with the quite clearly barring extraordinary happening not gonNa make the playoffs that constantly for the two rings everything else they oh it's like at least give them give them a chance on zee say to play himself out of a job as opposed in completely objective world. I think you can argue. He's played himself out of their job. Over the last couple bliss seasons the second half of season you remember he was playing without without yeah. I mean there's there's mitigating circumstances on the other hand you could say that without an in Odell Beckham or a lexicon morass who can catch the ball. He throws four feet over their head. you know he he he won't be that good and they don't have a very good receiving core mom you know right right now which is a problem for both him and Daniel Johnson right but obviously at thirty eight even if he's a league average quarterback which I'm not even convinced he is is now. You don't want to be thinking. We've got to stick with him for sentimental reasons. I think you do have to stick to with him for practical reasons. You don't WanNa throw Daniel Jones. It's in off the deep end while while they're still is sentiment for Eli. Let Eli play. He is as good as people say he is great. It's a win if he's not you go to your net. You go do your quarterback of the future. We'll go full circle market. He lies thirty eight full circle to the top of the show is just a baby right in the giants have the cowboys in the first game of the season. "I don't know question back to the theme park staff, if you had a choice between going to itchy and scratchy land or Duff gardens, which would you choose itchy and scratchy land with think gardens, but it's scratch land characters more characters there's more. You know, there's I p I love IP basically Disneyland. So you get that gardens kind of feels like I mean, they're playing Busch gardens universally thing. Then there's plenty of Disney references in that too. But yeah, it's a in that. Yeah. I like the IP Vicini scratchy more than the Duff IP. So you know, that's all I'm going on. I p here. That's that's good. And then all of the characters universe, which one. Do you think you relate to the most? Yeah. That is a good. I do feel like the older I get I do almost relate to Lisa more. Because as a kid, it's all like BART's, cool cool. And then I get a little older, I discovered homers Alaria. And then I don't relate to Bard or Homer later as much. I mean, EV you relate told them, but like Lisa is so relatable. And so especially those early episodes where it's like a little bit sweeter. Yeah. Her and barter having their sibling time now when I feel like she gets to be a kid the most like when she gets to just sort of stretcher legs and be a kid. Yes, I agree with you too. There's also plenty of because she has to be like this is actually what she's doing here. Like, a sixteen year old would. Second grade. It doesn't will. But I yeah. I have farms of quickie marts and houses to farm as many donuts as I can in the game. So big you feel very good very satisfied every day your credit card point guy. Yes. And the last couple years. I you feel like you have influenced me at least. I feel like I opened a new one just to accrue points after hearing you guys talk about it on the podcast. But I'm not at the point of of like, I knew that there are systems I've seen them on shark tank. Like, these founders that are creating software that like can kind of find all the point hacks for you. And I would did you. But I I'm feeling I'm close, but not quite there. But I'm living vicariously through you. And your your pointing Sanchez L helpers job. Yeah. Yeah. So where people find you online. And what would you like to plug.

"Not listen. Finish that sentence. Don't finish that sentence. Speaking of things that you hear the favorite song of Jacqueline starts to play. And we hear burned say I specifically requested. No magic museum. And this is when we get them. This is boots. I love that the glass shatters, he's falls into the ground. And he's still says if he shouting. Then. Yeah. Wocka, sue, this ending this ending of this scene. Yeah. Basically, he gives Jacqueline an ultimatum of you know, the being with either mister burns or with him. And then, you know, she does that very feminist move of that she doesn't want to be with either. And then Abe his upbeat way. I love that. He goes. Well, that's good enough for me just grabs her and they run back they right outside and there's a school bus there. And then we get the full graduate moment of them at the end. And you know, we hear Hello darkness, my old friend. But they've changed lyrics to cram though, the sound of grandpa the sound of. And an autos driving the bus, and they ask him to turn down the music, and he says fat chance. Yeah. I love that. Because you really you really stay on the beat of like that amazing ending of the graduate. And they are making those faces just like in the movie, and then turned down that rack and. Yeah, I really love. I mean, the classic the real ending their referencing. I really love that being the end of any really romantic story, because it's you know, showing the reality of that choice. And you know, you never get to see that in the part twos. All I wanna do is watch that movie. Now, I know the Simpsons sin. So there could be one lesson that you learned from this episode either the conversation we had or lady as lover, what do you think that would be? That's a very good question. I think you know, you gotta play it cool, really? That's all that's the number one. Would you do glow in the dark messages on your dentures? No to me is a lot. Like the woman ended the Anna Jones, who writes, I love you. Oh, I've tried to do an end up. Just like you gotta use it. I primary ladies because otherwise. Tori. Typically, I would do that. I could do very good richer hands makeup. I've done it many times costumes, but it will be a channel that only has those two looks. I like that. I'd subscribe to that. Thank you. Julia. So do you have any final thoughts about this episode or any moment missed? No. I think everything that I was coming. In was like, we gotta talk about everything was covered. Specifically, we gotta have we gotta talk about the line what you had sex with that old woman. We got that. We got to the Nazi. I mean. Yeah. I mean. And you said that you didn't have a favorite favorite episode that comes to mind. No, really. I mean, just so much of it. So great..

"And the Wayne's world they end up with back to back. Yeah. I saw it was great. Yeah. So yeah, we get that happening in this scene. Where basically marched up until the very last moment is like elbowing her mom being I come on like, you know, bar is getting pushed onto the grounds. Because he accidentally dropped the ring. He wasn't even being a bad. Boy, therapists, and at that I love like how MRs bouviers just like fuck it. But I love the take down of like those really long church's, weddings. I think I don't remember if I just heard the names wrong or if Burns's sang them wrong. Please correct me. But what he interrupts Reverend Lovejoy into. We've heard enough about bless him. That's actually what he says. I wrote down sounds about right. And I feel the same way. When you go to this, really tricky, weddings. But I don't think I mean, I feel like those Turkey weddings are becoming kind of like outnumbered by all the quirkier ones. I've only been to very great short weddings feel like I'm wearing a lucky. It's the golden age of weddings, everybody. Everybody's divorcing themselves from God. Yeah. That is. What's happened? Decline. I feel like though, there is something fun about an hour. Long catholic? There's something insane about it. Because there's so much. Pageantry there's so much boring stuff. And hopefully, you're in like a nice looking church. Paying for it. You might as well, let's hear me a little bit before people get married. Yeah. I've been to just one of those kind of weddings, somewhat recently. And I feel like probably the best way to experience that if you are like just close enough to be invited to the wedding. But like further away from like, the actual people getting married that you can kind of have that kind of perspective on it. And just like look at, you know, the amazing stained class portrait's and just kind of lose yourself in that and go oh interesting in and then of course, the rest of the night is devoted to conversations around like how much money do you think they spent on who he Blee? That reminds me that ring was not that lavish for someone who is a millionaire. Also, I just realized that the condom joke means that Abe definitely doesn't use a condom because otherwise he would know what that is. Stare at the sun too much. I mean, he probably doesn't need to wear one one think about his. The problem with all these retirement homes. There's the highest rate true. I don't know if you this is actually now a very common joke it for these kind of like book club that movie that just came out. And I'm thinking specifically, I saw the trailer for that new movie poems, which is starring Diane Keaton in a bunch of other people and produced by the same people that produced book club, but like one of the first jokes in the trailer is like Diane Keaton moves into this retirement community, one of the other woman goes I was really hoping that you were going to be a man like there's been like a real dip in sausage in this. She likes. Just basic enough that you're like that's grocer that you censored it in a way. But yeah, that's the joke that old people still fuck guys. Jay do still fuck. I don't wanna hear it. Everybody's job is to tell one old person that they are friends with to wear condom, and we'll help people. We gotta try. Doing. Hear your people you have to name them. Now, the mayor of my hometown. Okay. You heard it here, Mary, you gotta you gotta wrap it up of you tweeting the mayor of your town. Retiring. A lot of sex time. Anyway, listen to the show with your kids, but they have to wear earmuffs..

"I feel like as a kid there could be a horn is the wrong word because it's too grown up. But there's like a level of that feeling that you could have. But I think it's more about like really subtle nuance stuff. And that the anything above that line is just like weird. And makes you feel bad like Garth talking about how he used to climb the ropes in gym class. I thought it was really cute, and I had a crush on him for saying that. But I didn't know why for sure like the gratuitous sex scene as it is named not like could actually that gratuitous like that was kind of just like silly because they don't they're wearing their grows. He's joking around. But like anything of that? I think I would have hated. Absolutely. I think that like being a little. Lisa growing up. I was consistently. If I saw especially in the movie therapy like there are children present inappropriate. Also, if it's not played for a joke or giving us something else to it. I'm like, what is this really, exactly sure? Just tell me these people connect on an emotional level and move on to see this. I was interested to see who was on the groom's side of leading the way. Oh, yeah. It's just he tells what home tos Barney to go sit on the groom side to fill it out a little bit more on his only like one old Nazi sitting in ferns aside. Wearing the Kaiser helmet. That's another joke that I would definitely not have gotten as a kid. So I guess that's funny stuff funny for comedy. I liked just funny because doesn't only one person, but there's so many things as upset remembers laughing at the rhythm of totally it's like that one especially and then like all the references to like Jimmy Durante. It's all just like the rhythm of it. We loved it was hilarious. But I didn't know what. And then around here, I feel like maybe a child when those deep cut references. I started to understand what they were doing because it's all the graduate. And even though I had not seen the graduate as a child. I like head sort of, you know. Taken in through us, Moses, cultural smo-, just know what year was this. And what years wings were? Look up to. This is nine hundred ninety four to ninety three. So this would have sightly after. So I wonder do like do they just have to plan and nation foreign advanced they just both want to do this at the same time like. Funny funny. I will say my personal connection to this specific seen is when my husband, Mike, and I got married we got married at the silent movie theater. And so our rest in peace asylum theater. I hope it comes back, but we cut together scenes from some of our favorite movies to play before walking down the island all that stuff. And the first bit is from Lisa's wedding and maggie's about to speak, and then, you know, Hugh comes in and goes to the wedding has been called off. And then you know, and then like going through all the stuff, but I have both the MRs booby eighth thing..

"I want to say something really quick because it's fresh on my mind, but if yell aren't following Matt Selman and all the other Simpsons writers on Twitter yeller making a mistake. But he recently tweeted, just like a little like apple notes, doc of like different terms that they, you know, toss around the Simpsons writers room, and there's one that's going to be forever burned in my brain. And it's called shrug. Oh when a character says a line while shrugging, that's what they call. It. Shrug. Oh, I love it so much. There's so many other great ones on their turn example. I don't know just. Just. No. There wasn't an exhibit. Look out for keep an eye out. Yeah. But yet, let's show. We just get into this episode. Sure. So it starts off with with the crusty show. I always start by watching an actual TV. I want to also note the TV room in this episode is weird. I was gonna say living room looks weird. Yes. So I love the very complicated relationships. It's crusty continues to have with all of his sideshow characters. And I love that. For some reason, it's demeaning to melt have to orchestrate or conduct monkey orchestra. I think that that's the utmost like skilled maestro would be the monkey maestro. I think would be like that you want to adopt forward. I think it's I think had that one monkey not fucked it up it would have been like triumphant feet. Like, I want to write that story. Thank you should. But basically one of the monkeys isn't doing a very good job. Singing and gets poked in the eye, and that leads him and the other monkeys to attack Mel the sound effects that are happening during that are truly disgusting. I'm unsure if we all have asked them are we all love to study sound, but it's it's really key. And it made me very uneasy study sound I left his study sound back in your apartment. Just where? It's usually Nadia clip. Yeah. I enjoy that. Nobody I agree. And it's funny because you know, as we've talked about a lot on the show. You also know it's Bill Oakley Josh Weinstein episode because it has monkeys like at minute to they monkeys. It's one of the top funniest things that you can do in in comedy. But we have the beginning of this episode focusing on Maggie and having it be her birthday is you know, that very classic sort of Simpson's way in that doesn't at all really connect to what the bulk of this episode was about, but I I love how it connects so organically where you know, we have mcghee's birthday, of course. And that the whole family has to come over which includes both Abe Simpson and Jacqueline Bouvier Marge's mom, and I love the gag at the beginning where you know, grandpa doesn't even get the right house, and he's knocking on a neighbor going the juries. Juries kit figure things out. Mean I also really love the fact that this is the episode where we learned that maggie's kind of a bitch because she doesn't get along with the other babies, and I believe we are getting our first appearance of the one eyed. Chiro? So funny. I I love Lisa's lines livery, and I will also say like, I think five obviously loves up until eight. And then how long you go after that is everyone's personal preference. But five it's it's been going on for five years, which is a really good spot. Because the voice acting is still so good like, you know, I'm not saying they phoned it in, but like they just have so much in their performances here. And I think like Lisa's performance or not well, you get it. But like the way that Lisa says like we didn't invite the other babies Maggie doesn't get along with the other babies so good Mike and just such an excellent story there, even if they hadn't pointed to Gerald you would have been like what happened..

"So as we mentioned up top, we are now deeper into our podcast where you know. Maybe this wasn't your first choice or maybe it was. But in either case, why did you choose this episode to talk about today? Oh, it is. Because like everything was crossed out and on the list, and I was like going through stuff. And I was like which one do I really like, and I was trying to think of like jokes. And then I went, oh, yeah. There's a bunch of jokes. I like in this one. Yeah. I don't I don't even really have a favorite necessarily. But it's the ones everyone likes. I'm not special. I don't have like. Oh, wow. What a great poll. It's all the same. What is your relationship generally with the Simpsons? Oh, it's like the that this Saturday alive and everything was like though for like, oh my God funny. It's funny. The greatest thing and repeating jokes to get. There was a kid. I knew who couldn't watch the Simpsons and try to tell him jokes. And I think it was really bad to not have him. Listen. But like, I would tell. Let's tell your mom about this funny joke, and maybe she'll let you watch. It didn't work. Got some early performing kind of experience. And I'm sure yeah. Like, yeah. Of course, I was performing jokes. Yeah. I think for sure it was like, obviously, many people learn like references from it. And then years later, actually know what the references finally mean. But yeah, there was just it was I was obsessed with it. I realize now watching watching a couple of years probably I realized that so many of the jokes with grandpa are. So mean, just very mean and like, but those are very funny still like the CIA the joke. I think is the Grandpa's coming to the wedding. And they say, I don't know he just got his RSVP at a check to the gas company. So funny. It's so mean, so I think maybe as a kid I liked all that mean humor a lot. So I do like grandpa stories, and he's very funny character. So Josh have an adoration and respect that they have for elders both like older kind of gruff voice actors specifically. But the reason the Simpsons kind of is so masterful is that they have twenty different types of old people Jasper is very different from Monty burns. And in this case, we realized that differences between Abe and Monte and even. Just the fact that like a and Jacqueline are being put together simply because they're old and lonely March has hard time finding out like finding any commonalities that they could even have, you know. And I think shows like okay, like they might be making fun of it. But they could still understand like they're humans that just didn't tie, right. How I refer to adults when I'm just like we're really just kids that haven't died yet. Say this all the time. It helps me empathize with assholes in front of children though. Well, they should just try to keep from dying in that should be their one and only priority but back to this. So sent me that we like to do. I don't know if this is a full blown segment, I'm calling it that a segment we liked to do on this show is that we like to for people that haven't watched this episode. A while we like to read the synopsis from Wikipedia ice cold could be good could be bad. Usually. It's usually bad in the episode..

It's only the only three good ones and funny Zepos, actually excellent. Would sometimes go would actually do some of the graduate performances and people didn't know anyway. Julia tell us about your shirt, I'm wearing your shirt that's a reference to kids in the hall sketch. It just has Mark McKinney as his, you know, classic character. I'm going to call him the head crush art enough. He ever got a name. But it says I'm crushing your head. And you're wearing Mickey Mouse sweatshirt. Yeah. Talk about your shirt underneath that, Mike. If honestly, you know who's on it. Mickey. Southern california. Mickey. Yeah, they're both like vaguely vintage is that truly vintage the no no that's like JC Penney from three years ago dollars. But it's looks it's applica- poor-quality shared. I think so at aged very quickly. So it makes it look like I've had for a long time. But you're honest about it, and that's amazing. Yes..

So he kept your car. You have your car in New York on my car, New York. And then I thirty days to figure out like where I'm gonna live in what's going on. I got a storage unit over on the west side highway for the stuff I kept that wasn't in my car. And and then I was homeless for from April of twenty twelve and till September of twenty twelve or mid August of twenty twelve when I moved into Nikko cher's room with that I rented with grant O'Brien, Barry, and Lenin just good people there, right? Welcome for the full time in five years. I beat ally by four goals to one in the final in Abu Dhabi and away from. Football. Josh Wellington, retained his IBM featherweight title, the unanimous points. Win over confrontation. Thank you staying with sport. There was a stark agreement reached last Wednesday between the authorities that run professional baseball in both the US and Cuba. The Cuban baseball federation, and it's kinda part in the United States. Major league baseball have agreed to allow Cuban players to sign for the leading US teams without having to renounce they Cuban citizenship or defect. In other words in the past some top Cuban players have been smuggled off the island and taken to the US on speedboats. We joined on the line now by Mike Carlson friend of this program US born writer sports commentator once vice president of major league baseball European operations. Welcome mike. What more can tell us about this deal morning. This is this is a really huge step forward in in terms of baseball. Because baseball is one of those things that Cuba and the United. States have in common along with say, boxing and music. They're great loves, and it really unites the countries that that should be best friends historic historically, speaking. You're absolutely right that the defection process by which Cubans have come to the US to play baseball has been very haphazard. And one of the the big selling points for this deal is that it will stop things like players being literally kidnapped by the people helping them defect which happened to. Yes, you who who was playing for the dodgers last year and has just been traded away. But it goes back a long time and Cuban players used to go to international tournaments and then defect and they would go to rather than go to the United States. They would often go somewhere like the Dominican Republic where they could still play baseball. But they wouldn't be subject to baseball's amateur draft and thereby would be able to get more money. And why do you think this has happened now because u s Cuban relations are on a bit of a downturn at the moment. Yeah. But it's something that's been worked on for a number of years ever since under President Obama. And you remember President Obama went went to Cuba in two thousand sixteen when the Tampa Bay rays played the Cuban national team in Havana and the office for foreign assets control fac had basically gave baseball permission to do this discussion. And because still under terms of the American embargo. You can't literally Yuki literally can't do business in Cuba. So that it's been going on since then and the baseball and the baseball major league Baseball Players Association who also have to sign up dealt with the with the Cuban baseball federation come up with a deal that's very much like the one that baseball already has in place with Japanese professional baseball and the Korean professional baseball leagues whereby they have to pay a fee to the team or the league as well as signing the player and the. The signings are controlled by a players age and the amount of time that he spent in the league so the plus side for Cuba. Obviously is that the federation and the teams will get money for their players rather than having them defect. And they lose that embarrassing visual of players trying to leave Cuba in order in order to play baseball. The upside for major league baseball, obviously is if they get a bit of control more control over the players. It's going to cost the bless money because they'll be subject to what they call an international draft pool whereby teams have only a certain number of money amount of money that they can pay for players who aren't subject to the draft. And most importantly, like I said right at the beginning, it stops, this horrible, this horrible business of players risking being kidnapped or whatever to to come to the US to to play in the major leagues, thanks for that, Mike and briefly before you go do you? You think baseball has the power to bring Cubans and Americans together, politically, I think it actually does in a sense. But it's it's got a huge hurdle. A couple of huge hurtles Stover come right now. One, of course, is President Trump who's already referred to the deal as being part of an Obama era. Negotiation which is not a positive from his point of view. And of course, the Cuban exile community is based in Florida Florida's a very is a very important state politically because it's a swing state. It's balanced between the two parties and already Florida politicians are screaming about this and complaining that you know, it's it's it is basically recognizing Cuba. It's penalizing, Cubans and Americans. So I think there'll be a long way to go before the government actually signs off on this deal. But it would be a great thing if they could I remember a Cuban player called Victor Mesa when I was working at the Olympics in ninety two in Barcelona. Probably the best player outside the US never got to play professional baseball. His two sons defected by speed boat to the Dominican Republic and signed a contract for six million dollars for both of them with the Marlins now that compares to the last Cuban defector. Who came before them who signed a sixty million dollar contract. So basically, the money is not so great. But it's still there. And I think the lure of playing those leg Liga's may harsh as.
