What has changed with metro is some of the track circuits that they use to basically tell the train operators and the train control system, whether or not a specific portion of the track is occupied. That is important because in that 2009 incident, what happened was the striking train was told that the tracks ahead were clear when in reality there was a stop train ahead. So what metro has done here is they've changed a lot of the circuitry on the tracks that now better tells the operators and everybody involved when a particular section of track is occupied. It's been tested and retested and then that equipment then communicates with the train itself. Metro will switch the system back on on the red line first sub time this summer. The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan. Statins can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by lowering cholesterol levels, but a new study finds many people who could potentially benefit from taking statins, refused to take them. Statins are very important drugs. Doctor Allen Taylor, chairman of cardiology had met our heart and vascular institute, commenting on a new study out of Boston that has experts like him concerned. It found that among patients with a higher risk of heart disease, more than one in 5 refused to take statins when they were recommended. Women were about 20% more likely than men to refuse initially and about 50% more likely to never accept a statin recommendation. A lot of men have male friends that take statins. Women may not have that same support system. He says, side effects can be a concern, but he assures patients that those can be managed by using different drugs or different doses. Jesus himself faced it when he spent 40 days in the desert. There, the evil one repeatedly challenged our lord. Tempting him with all that this world has to offer, yet he proved victorious. We all face our own temptations. We are threatened daily by the snares of this world power and pleasure, riches, impurity, and more. Remember, no vice, no temptation, no false promises, are insurmountable. When we trust in God's mercy, pray for the courage Jesus had to stand steadfast in the face of temptation. "The united states With twenty and twenty five years we got sixty four years thinking so almost half on free has some of that one three five one In it P one is lower. That's the brazilian variant. But you can see the be one one. Seven area is Is reported and and and fifty bureau about sixty four photo jurisdictions and we've got five thousand cases and we're not. We're not test protesting about zero point. Two percent who zero point three percent of all of the desperate back artistic things and so. That's an issue you can see here. In the united in michigan. We started right here. Number eight were allen. I only account county or they have the the jail had a lot of cases. And you can see that. It's been spreading spreading quite a bit across Across michigan now. And in fact you can see that in the cases that have been done Fifty eight percent of those tested positive are coming up positive for the be one one seven burying and the reason is important is because the on seven variant is fifty percent more More transmittable see can't use the same old basking before. Wash your hands. More more mixed use heavier masked the a and ninety five masks To distance more because that much more than the spent more particles that are stickier and board hearing you than the older Virus and simple way of saying so and the other thing. Is this bucks county present. More deadly So that's a and we have one case and realized that there were one case where the three one one one three five one variant doesn't work of at that exited work We have one case right now if it turns out things broke vast exponentially and so. That's what happens right what happens is everyone thinks that everything's good. Our vaccination rates steady steady steady tails and every week. So we'll beating this virus right. But the problem is the be will seven increase logarithmically and so texted mississippi for example. They relaxed niger back. In february thinking they were head of the virus. Everything's fine vaccination is going well. We're headed virus. Three weeks later the virus passes it up and just takes off and that's where we are right now in florida. We're going to be in michigan People extra l. a little bit too much and then we a- sadly we have in the cycle of saying okay. We we got a flat girl. Magus going crazy. And so we flat curve planes and gets you know gets stuck at home and And then you have economic decline and we want to avoid that up and down if we can by by being a little bit more patient instead of going to the beach instead of instead of going into and and and acting at the bars. We don't do that because this is what really where we are. Right now were point will be was going to start taking often reason. That's important is that here's how we we look at hurt. Immunity always talked about herd immunity herd. Immunity is the number of people actually get vaccine to protect those who haven't been vaccinated and right back on january when you are up against the ovarian it took. We herd immunity levels. Were needed to be sixty percent. That's a formulas at the bottom one might as one over r. zero r zero point five you get about sixty percent at be. One seven variant. I'll the Suddenly to three point two five seventy jumps from sixty percent to seventy percent seventy percent of us have to get vaccinated all of a sudden or get sick and recover in order for us to a beat. The beep beep this him And you can see right now. We're at right right now. It's considerably on eleven percent of us coffee. Both vaccinations are fully protected. So he's got about eighty percent. People have very basic cases and about six percent six point five percent Case rate overall That have been that have been monitored and diagnosed the we evasive and then and then the ones that have been accidentally diagnosed. We think that overall in michigan we have a lot of twenty five percent immune protection by. Its that's how many people that's what we're at right now. So twenty percent for we need to get the seventy beans. Were missing forty. Four point five million people more after vaccinated. That's a lot of people now right. Now we're vaccinate three hundred thousand people a day are max has been four thousand and i said if we can do five hundred thousand a day. Which is we're talking about almost doubling. We'll be right now. Then we could Have complete vaccination get to the seventy percent By around june fifteen. But that assumes that we're gonna get a lot faster on a vaccination that we don't get a lot faster on a vaccination. We're into the middle of july and that only that e that requires two things to be true. The first thing is that we don't that the variance up. Here's the immunity from the vaccine. That's we found remember. We found that was true in south africa. The when we gave bush out. Can't you only ten percent protective. That happens with our with the with the variance that are in michigan and we're and are affected. Misery goes to ninety five to ten and we allow that the people get reinfected. then we'd never will return. Immunity was the current vaccination. What it be impossible. I don't think that's going to be the case but we just have to be careful and watch that They cheered up your immunity and the other thing is that of course there instantly transmittable Zero was up again Then again our special goes up again and we're gonna have to get that many more so right now. We're kind of looking at. He'll be safe for out of kern rates middle of july. But with we're able to speed things up middle of you okay. Unfortunately we're going to have to leave it at that. So i think that's rather positive you know so. Yeah as long as as long as variance penetrate. The the the the arguing are awesome. That that that really is working to watch and right now. We don't know that the far it's all right. Thanks very much fred brown. We'll talk to you again next week. Thank for your. Thanks for your input. "Impact amp around here. Generally it is a drill bit on a vaccine for something new so we don't forty days later they're gonna have shipment the clinic and they're going to go through the phasing that we talked about in phase one results and they're hoping that after phase one results after about three or four months right. They've sent sizes after about a month and a half and they've been watching it for some time And that now they're scaling up in there hoping that after about who three months. They're going to be able to go and say we've got this data. That indicates where neutralized the news deaths new vaccine neutralizes business virus. If the fda says yes. We agree that all you've done is really changed. The antibody antigen in in your shop. You don't have to go through. All the efficacy testing while have bridge. Slightly children are still pretty safe. the same safety results a few patients. And you're done about a six month process to get a brand new vaccine. The fda says that for phase one neutralization enough for us about a four month process but take some time once. These new variants are are out there. Actually get vaccine for it that we think we can move into the regulatory component of of the of the equation. So here was what the this is pfizer. Emma donna and you can see with moderna orange that they had very good circuiting. Antibodies the antibodies that attach virus attack and forty even gets into your into your cells and very good persistent immunity. Also you can see that they actually increased. The is here new neutralized by versus convalescent plasma ben single-dose levels you're there fifty to eighty percent higher. Unfortunately for the older people moderna vaccine. I'm always a little concerned. Frankly about the older people in medina vaccine. Because of this of this phase one result this was based on the result. Forty five patients or not a very big study but you can see that you can actually start to see whether your immune system is kicked internet. That's the purpose of a phase one. Study a dozen actually inject people you walk around and get sick actress. Look since he's really gotten neutralizing antibodies. Let's take a look about little bit closer. This is the this is the actual results. They reported to the fda as show you how tight this looks. I six times sounds like it's bad. But if you actually look on a log announce luke confusing gonna take a deep breath. Non top who we see. These are the circuiting. Antibodies the antibodies that are against the spike proteins and their separate bottom indeed us the neutralizing. Antibodies officially before. So you can see after one dose versus convalescent plasma no word about the same level of one dose for your circulating. Antibodies s convalescent plasma. But you take that second bill. She get ten times. And that's why we saw that that that that big nutmeg big dumping it's log rhythmic scale here that we have epidemiologists scales otherwise we had to linearly charlie off the pay dreitzer so kind of intensive. But it's harder to read the just to get used to that. Everyone knows it goes ten. A hundred thousand ten thousand hundred thousand million so on i'm at scale and unfortunately these log to scale on the on the the on the actual neutralizing antibodies again. You can see though the basically after one dose neutralizing antibodies are slightly lower than cosmetic and the and that this after the second year significantly above all right and the same. Thing's true about the prn thi this does a much longer cast at actually. Is the gold standard test and you can see here again that we are above the combos levels. So that's what law eslava sixfold reduction. We'll do for you still means we have a pretty good Vaccine against the south african burying we think but we also think that bush should might be likely especially for the elderly population and we made after create a new generation like a vaccines every year. Every couple years likely to for the flu as these various bill here are the actual tighter levels. So i m against the original original. Here's what they are actually in a as was just reported now about two hours ago so you can see it so everyone's watching this very carefully. We're all very worried about this. Overall others trying to figure out what this all means that you can see. Here's the Here's the log level again. You is the sixfold reduction racy there. They're the log scale before versus a log scale of two on the reciprocal than you can see the The drop in the tighter levels six point four times and the p value credibly. Hi this is not. This is not a random of him. It was a statistically extremely significant. The chances of this happening randomly are about a one hundred thousand. So it's a it's a really significant event and that six four six point four-time production is big as a really big ship the g. on the baseline. That's that's what we all are worried about in the united states. That's our that's our that's how our per predominant affects virus the be one Free five one. That's south african during so you can get a sense of just how much though more this graphic what were interested in. How much more of the antigen do i need in order to neutralize the this this this this virus it's a. It's a ten one hundred times as well over times more circulating ended. I need in order to neutralize. Luckily we do have that in the vaccine right now but yet a few more mutations. What was interesting as you can. See the difference at a few indications We're most worried about the g that that green line those are the predominant mutations worried about worry about three mutations that are occurring right at the binding site the inhibitor of your cells. It's confers a much stronger affinity binding affinity as all of these medications and so the green lines. What you're worried about those the three permanent mutations the blue line is you. Add those three mutations plus the extra twenty one additional mutations all of a sudden it gets even better at avoiding being utilized fire. Antibodies a match. What we're worried about that. That shift in the line from the black line and the red line over to the blue line. It's a it's a hundred fold shift and that's a big shift to require. How much more circulating. Antibodies more cleansing. Anybody's you need in your body. You know to kill it so even a small reduction in in in in in duration vaccine is gonna mean a big shift in how much you're able to heal office. Fires will be protected enough. That makes sense. The red line is sort of interesting. That is the line for the british virus which we're now finding in the united states. That if you saw north michigan announced six athletes would come down with the beat. One one seven virus and so they've actually shut down all their tickets for the next two weeks because they're so worried about running through the campus right now. In the middle of rush at university of michigan what could go on incredibly affect virus going right to the boring during the season exactly so it him of the things that were worried about with this with this virus and so i wanted to show you that quick said because we're gonna have to test a lot more. We're to find out if you lot more aware of which layers were dealing with whether or not we have to have a vaccine for that for tests or even picking it up and one of the thing that worried me. A day is that we actually made the wall street journal today because they talk about about counties that were underrepresented in terms of their testing. And this is wayne. County has made the wall street journal day. And you can see that Little little black circles or interested in that is where a rapid test sites out right. And if you look at where. The poorest populations are people who are most likely to be affected by by yogurt and people who are least likely to be able to take off work for fourteen days because they think they might have it and the people who are out there probably being were being more representative essential workers. Those who don't have access so if we're wealthy wealthiest for the wealthy on the border of oakland county. We you know. Got lots of sites to choose from. But if you're in the middle of detroit you gotta get you gotta get on public transportation. Do something about a ten mile radius of course areas of detroit. And those of you who are least likely to be able to sadly is late themselves. Take take time off of work. So that's a challenge and we need to solve it pretty quick because we're gonna potential a lot more a lot more professional about it. So gosh i was so worried about most is getting hurt so are to show you some things about her to me. That are a little bit worrisome. But we're talking about and that is that we are pretty darn close to the of being on the fringe of her to meet. I talked to the fact that fact that we think that this the the vast majority of our of our People of things. We're gonna have to fight are gonna be the be one seven virus very and that's because it spread so fast now the problem with that is i think that we are going to be a special formula for her to unity. And it's the vaccine effectiveness of stopping vision or your your immune system times. The percent of the population documented plus the recovered population because they're gonna have some protections we think it's about fifty two percent if people are fifty percent protective for about eight months. So if you have the if you've had the by the virus you're probably fifty percent of Protected for about eight months that compares to having a vaccine and being ninety five percents effective a upper effective immune system for a longer duration eight months. They don't know how long so you've had the if you've had the virus and thank you protected. Still get the vaccine. Eligible can get it because it's going to be that much more so we know other said with the variant. We probably went from new vaccine. Eighty percent eighty five eighty. Two percents go the number. I use eighty percent of our population which is about thirty million people. That's two eighty million people but if we now have a new variant with the we have to as much as three hundred million americans being vaccinated and not does vaccinated once vaccinated twice for the two vaccine got. Fda g kicks in linz only once. But that's that's pretty complicated formula to get that many people back there as fast as we're doing it and we'll talk a little bit. Maybe next time about all the got. I think we talked about the distribution challenges. Last time we talk we talked about manufacturing we talked about the fact that distribution is tough and now we're going to talk a little bit about what happens if he'd want to take it to save that for next week because we're almost out of time. Oh you're kidding that we are so gosh at school as quickly so at any rate. Here's what here's the quick answer for next week is we are really tight on on how many people can actually say i don't with accident. Thank you very much at our our ability at heard of unity and with that. Why don't we hold off. We'll we'll talk about some of the things we can do about that next week. 'cause there's some really interesting things that we can do book so before we wrap. Let me ask you this as you know. We got a new president last week and and we talked about this in the light of all this. Do you think he's able to get one hundred thousand one hundred million. Vaccinations one hundred days If he does that It yes straight answer is yes but i don't think it's going to be sufficient. I'd like to see us be able to vaccinate about two percent of the population per day. That will be a balanced between. How much do supply. We'll have based on what the actress name. And i want you. Demand will have. We have to get a point of being able vaccine to vision day. And what he's as. I think about point six population today. And that's that's insufficient. If you really wanna go as fast as i think we're going to need to block these variants okay. All right thanks very much. Yes we ever just kibitzing here between the segments and fred brown once again joins us Our epidemiologists man had to step away. He's breaking bread today. Yes he had to go. Check it in the oven. So let's last week we cut you off. You're just getting into some topics and you said you'd come back to revisit them this week. Remember what you wanna to talk about. I i actually am not sure what we can certainly go into some new things a big breaking news that we probably talk about that we can go back and talk a little about catch up with some of the things we were thinking about before the merck ruth drying its candidate because merck said it wasn't effective enough or something like that. Yeah yeah so you know. This is typical. This is what we usually dug developed. Which is you know have a great majority of the candidates actually fail and we i was I sort of bridge that half of them that are currently being evaluated later stage would fail but i was kinda surprised and pleasantly surprised that we didn't have that many failures since i was saying. Wow you know this is gonna this could be really great and merkazi was expected to come onto the market probably on may june timeframe with some interesting vaccine that actually reproduce themselves in the body of these engines reproduce themselves. They actually they use these for bola which our with two with. Great success controllable and Unfortunately the two candidates one was a more traditional candidate was his new candidate. This new technology and The went into phase. One date. And actually i want to talk about phase one data today. They haven't released all the numbers at all But we can take a look what they what they were evaluating and then And then they decided based on that they weren't going to go forward. And i can some of the phase one data sort of interesting that released to another another issue that we talked about last time. And that was that we were finding that there was resistance on the on the new south african variants of Of the vaccine about monoclonal. Antibodies as well as of some of the testing that we're doing for the spike coaching. So i was gonna show you a little bit of that wyatt significant and today Madonna announced three big things. The first thing was a sixfold reduction. In our ability to control the new variant from south africa alber without traditional vaccines. However that's not to say that a six rejection is still gonna you good effectiveness. It's still probably will. But they are nervous enough about it that they announce two new things and that was they're gonna start testing booster sequences the particularly concerned as you know about the elderly population. And they're also gonna test a brand new vaccine specifically for this variant and That was announced by the ceo morning. and then they released a just a couple of hours ago. I'm still going through. The data thought we go to it together quickly Which is what the results showed. So i think it's the first indication from someone who really is interested in keeping this new vaccine on the market unchanged for as long as possible saying you know we got a platform that allows us to really quickly take things in and out And so we may want to actually change our antigen And this may be the indications that we're going to have more flu tight vaccine Than a measles site vaccine a flu type of vaccine is annoying. Take every only once whatever every year every season and we might unfortunately see that happening with kobe.
