News is brought to you by American Vision Windows Right now, let's say good morning to NBC's Jim Ryan. Jim, you would think that this is a good thing. Americans are returning to the operating room, but the Red Cross says not so fast. It's the whole world kind of playing. Catch up. That last story. You were talking about their the shooting. I mean that that person went to the hospital probably needed a blood transfusion, even if he didn't make it, But The the rate of traumas is rising around the country. As more people get out, you find them getting into car accidents. There's been a lot of violence around lots of issues, and every year at this time, you see an increase in demand on blood supplies this year. It's even more critical because people Who have been holed up for the last year and a half or so or now getting out and going places and finding themselves an accident. So you see that increasing demand on the blood supply and at the same time You don't see as many donors coming in that naturally during the pandemic, most of the blood drives at offices and at high schools and colleges were cancelled. You just couldn't hold him because There's nobody inside those buildings. What's the point? So now? The Red Cross is trying to play ketchup and get as many people rolling up their sleeves not for a covid shot, but to donate blood to help replenish dwindling supply have they said that people are still just hesitant to go anywhere sort of medical if they don't need to, at this point, even if they are vaccinated. Well, right, I think there there is some of that apprehension out there. But, you know, they're Red Cross and and health officials are trying to ease people is concerned about that. That it is safe that the blood supply is one of the best in the world. In terms of being screened for those things, it doesn't take much to get knocked off the donor list. You know if you take aspirin every day, things like that. So you can imagine how carefully are with things about you know, Coronavirus. Oh, my gosh, I can't imagine. Are they saying to if you are vaccinated are fully vaccinated. Doesn't matter. Who will They take anybody? They will. Yes. Yet again there. There's a lot of paperwork going into it. If you're Regular donor. There's not so much paperwork, but if you're going in the first time, they will screen you fairly carefully for the things that you take and and vaccines. You've had things like that to ensure that nothing unusual ends up in the blood supply. So you know, across the country and even California's Livestream blood bank says the need for donations in the inland empire is extreme. And you're finding that all across the country right now, any specific type of blood that they're looking for or just across the board. They need it. Well, it is across the board, but the Oh group Especially as the one that's most Indeed. I believe that's the most common and so that's the one that gets used up first. My blood types fairly rare, and so when it's in short supply, it's really in short supply, but generally it isn't because not a lot of people are using it. So you know they're trying to juggle the supply and demand equation and just having a really difficult time in wake of the in the wake of the pandemic. All right, Jim. Thank you for the update on that. All right. So you can, uh, ABC is Jim Ryan. Absolutely makes sense. I mean, if you are a regular blood donor, you well, I shouldn't say you probably didn't. You may not have donated blood last year because of the pandemic. Maybe the place that you normally go. Maybe there's normally a blood drive. You know, once every month or two at your place of work, and normally that's where you went. Those were probably cancelled. Last year, and so I'm sure that they definitely needed if you are able to donate blood Gosh, I mean, this is this is the time to do it. Or if you haven't for the last year or so, and you want to get back into it? Yeah, Clearly, this is a very necessary time. Wait is that you talking about the vista. Del mar alone. Dockweiler beach right. I went for a run there when you still live at the. Yeah that road. Waves turned it into a one lane road in the middle of the night. That's called a road diet. They call it the because the road doing other places to they did it on venice. It turned a three lane road to have a hit. Because of this weird bike lane was Between the lane the bike lane and then parking and then people would need to turn right on the streets were. Yeah but the cyclists had parked cars to deal with so they couldn't be as close to the cy walk as on the on venice on venison annoying but it made more sense flipping it where the parking the by cleaner switch now or something now. The bike lane is protected by the park. Cars which is good. Yeah that makes sense. I mean they made him switch it back by the way Mar the residents were so fucking pissed.

"Know, listen to Ko Phi. One of those. I was like, I didn't hear that yet. Details just we're coming out. It seemed like every hour. So, according to the mayor, the shooter knew his victims very well. So Alex is gonna have a lot more for us. In just a few minutes. The siege. He's arrested a person who may have used a BB gun to shatter about 100 windows in L, A riverside and Orange counties. And the L. A City Council has approved a motion that could lead to homeless housing at some beaches and parks have a feeling a lot of people are gonna have a lot of opinions on that. Let's go ahead and start with some of the stories coming out of the cave By 24 Hour news room. Officials in San Jose say nine people killed in a shooting at a light rail maintenance yard where between the ages of 29 63. Many of the people killed were longtime employees of the Valley Transportation Authority where the shooting happened yesterday. This woman says her dad knew the man who ended up being the shooter. And they would talk. Sometimes it works. Normal work, talk normal works job. They parked right across from each other. He saw him they would. Sometimes they would walk in at the same time. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department says the 50 year old shooter also worked at the Vita. He killed himself right as deputies arrived. I know there was some question yesterday about did he kill himself? Did cops kill him? Was there any shootout between them? I think that that's a No. But I want to get all the details from Alex. Kind of get him to do it. Start to finish for us. Ah, man who may have shattered about 100. Car windows, mostly along the 91 with a BB gun has been booked for assault with a deadly weapon. Cops say a driver whose car was shot at with BBS or pellets on Tuesday in Riverside was finally able to give a description. Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback says cops were on the lookout for a red SUV. One of our patrol officers happen to be at the right place at the right time. And saw a vehicle that match that description on near the 91 Freeway. CHP officer Jake Sanchez says catching the guy was a top priority. Nobody should be driving other of being worried about having their window broken out by somebody shooting PBS at them, he says. Investigators will now determine if this guy is connected to the other shootings. Corbin Carson Ko Phi needs well, the L. A City Council has approved emotion that could lead to homeless housing at some beaches and parks. We're only discussing counselor Mike Bonin says his proposals for a feasibility study to see if allowing Safe camping or temporary cabins with security and services in certain parking lots would work counseling job. Loose guy, you know, was the only no vote yesterday, citing public safety fears, also very concerned about how this proposal impact access to recreational space. And Bannon says If the plan is deemed feasible, it would offer more order than encampments. Part of the prank of all of this is to return public space to public usage. And Bannon says everything needs to be on the table. Chris and Carl Okay if I news, all right, a couple of quick things as you heard that story. Let's not forget the booth. Kay, you know is running for Mayor. You always gotta wonder. Does that impact their decision on votes and things like that? And then the other thing is how many people are going to be upset that maybe a park or a beach or something like that is then designated as Homeless is homeless housing near in their neighborhood. But then Let me pose this where the weird you propose a a new homeless housing Project B. They can lot of vacant building those sorts of things. Then you're gonna have the business owners upset. I What I'm saying is, I don't know that there is a good option to this. I'm glad it's being discussed. But it's wolf. It's going to come with a lot of criticism. Speaking of that a federal judge has criticized the county and city of L. A for a feeling to meet an agreement to find housing for 6700 people. L. A alliance for Human Rights Attorney Elizabeth Mitchell says the city's only housed about 400 people near freeways. So the point of this was to clear people out of freeways and they've done nothing of the sort. So in my opinion, that's a material breach and they should be found in violation. Judge State But Carter warned the city and county.
