"I'm going to leave it at that credit villa. Sorry, I don't like to laugh because I knew what politics. On this day, day on the sea responded, well, and they played with energy and a physicality. They did almost cruel on Gerard that he walked right into much maligned keeper MMK, having a sudden renaissance, all hail cap Ava. Yeah, Kappa was outstanding. He was Chelsea's player of the game without a doubt. And just phenomenal. How that young man who on that arrived on that huge transfer and his bounce back, he's been a mendy shadow, his watch mendy get all the plaudits must have been so difficult for him. But he also has got a lot stronger. He looks physically stronger. He plays with a lot more presence. He's always been a decent shot stopper. He's got even better with his feet, and that's the reason why Potter is selecting him. But that triple save really kept Chelsea in the game, kept them from being overwhelmed. He was just superb throughout. I don't know how as politic fans were meant to feel about kepper, so I'm not quite sure what the policies on that. Check it before you say anything. 6 saves in the first half 5 from close range. So one for Ming's were simply spectacular. He does if he got into ing's head, Kepner. And then rummaged around past the weird crap that's in there. Like lambos and margaritas and must the old porn mags, and then he just got in there and read in rings his mind when he was going to do with that. It's not being sorry. I just thought you were in my head for a second there, roger. I was very confused. And readings is mind. When he was going to do it, I had that just fell back and popped it over the bar magic. Second half, Mason Mount, who often sounds like he's the tallest peak in Delaware to me. Yet we hype makes him out, killed the game off, Ming's conceded the foul 20 yards out mount sent in a curveball of a free kick that somehow bamboozled Emmy Martinez. I only see when you look at that goal. I think Emmy Martinez is in with Ming's on let's get Stevie Gerard out of here. And I can imagine just like Todd bully being like, maybe we should, with that kind of a curve ball, maybe we can turn mason into starting picture for Dodgers next opening day. Only outfield players who have started every game underground Potter seems to be growing more and more confident and swaggering every week. Villa 16th point off the bottom three with a Villa Park faithful now circling around Stevie Gerard, his tactical acumen is squad building, said to be lacking all that money spent. One of many managers looking at that World Cup break and the perfect time offers for managerial changes en masse and thinking about thin ice. For the man who was rumored to be Liverpool's next Liverpool manager, I'm aware and that wants majority opinion is now very minority and Sheldon Freud and it's really only me holding on to that day. But how do you think about your Chelsea performance? What do you make of it big picture? Yeah, look, I don't think Chelsea are all the way there yet. And there were some odd performances as well. Cuca Rea, not looking that confident on the ball, not looking great, even under his old manager growing Potter. There are some still, they're growing into that system at various points he had Raheem Sterling playing it right back, Ruben Loftus cheek playing at right back. He was just the tactical flexibility requires from his players is a shock for these for these lads. But ultimately, I feel Chelsea are in pretty good shape and players form. It's a good squad. I think that midweek win against Milan also very strong they've gone from being struggling frankly in the Champions League to now looking like they're definitely going through to the last 16. So yeah, I'm feeling good about it. Much needed win in a week in which the dark news about Reece James sustained knee injury and the win at Milan that you mentioned, he's going to spend the next couple of weeks in a brace almost certainly going to miss the World Cup, which means that Potter's team are now without a lot of their footballing IQ. He'll be thrilled all grand Potter that he was able to still deliver is 5th straight win. Okay, Manchester United nil, Newcastle United nil. Joel lynton rattled the bar and the post in the same sequence of play Ronaldo turned in an ultimately offside goal, then tried to catch Nick Pope napping, standing over a questionably in play free kick and Marcus Rashford skewed ahead her from within the 6 yard box at the death of points are shared by united Manchester and Newcastle who are rubbing shoulders in 5th and 6th respectively. The battle to be the one true united ten hogs squad still looks like a $1.5 billion outfit in name only. In can you castle entering Old Trafford, a place they normally roll over and accept their punishment almost before a ball has been kicked. They seem to be fearless. I took the field wearing their Saudi Arabia national team third kits, for reason hint that the murky forces have propelled their new dawn at Brendan volpe tweeted us a sea Newcastle are wearing their totalitarian journalist murdering green kits today. What she did violence is that exactly. And David, this comes in a week in which he was Miguel Delaney, as this question, how will history look back on this period of football, Russia host one World Cup, Qatar the next state owned club's winning almost everything. I mean, I watched this game that shirt and did realize I am not sure the Premier League really thought this one through about how geopolitics and alliances are changing. This is a week in which the U.S. enter their international diplomatic muck with Saudi Arabia Britain is currently in a fuel deficit and all I'm going to say that third kit will really the Premier League's decision to let Newcastle become pith castle. I'm not sure they've scenario planned all the different futures that that could take place and I think it's going to become a bigger and bigger sporting nightmare. Yeah, we are essentially in a proxy war. Britain and the U.S. with Russia and Russia and Saudi Arabia are allies. And using their vast supplies of petrol and energy as a hedge against being punished for everything that they're doing. So yeah, it is say this is complex and not very pleasant would be massive understatement. I mean, it's so insane in Britain, they're currently setting up heat centers. That's what they're calling them for individuals who do not have the necessary resources to get through the winter, but they can come and warn themselves up. The north is particularly susceptible to that kind of deficit. And this is going to

"Hey roger, I'm Robert, a Manchester City supporter out of Kansas City. Our OSC site is the press penny and Waldo. Come on out. My question is, at the rate, Chelsea go through managers. Is this more of a loan and an 18 months Brighton can just have them back? Thanks. Have a great day. Robert. Oh, Kansas City. Oklahoma Joe's had loved me some of those right now. Enter Graham Potter. And the first question is, why would he take this job? Has he not watched season one of Game of Thrones? Does he not know what happened to Ned stark? I mean, what a cautionary tale. That was, you do a provincial job in a dedicated, meaningful fashion should never take a leap to become the king's and never do it. It can only end in one way with your neck on the chopping block and Chelsea is King's Landing for Graham Potter, but why would he do it? I can think of at least one $40 million a year reason for him to step up and take the Chelsea roll, but Miguel Delaney wrote a piece that had encouraged you to find out we tweeted it out. It was in this morning's newsletter. He wrote about the plan for Chelsea going forward and there is a blueprint. They want to walk a different path than other big clubs who and if this is top bull these ideas, this is not wrong. Who simply reheat the same old big managers in Mourinho's Carlo Ancelotti's your pochettino's and build these aims to do something different. It's the partner Potter who both is a human being and as a football tactician is incredibly progressive. Going to partner in with a brilliant quote hopefully. Director of football who Potter himself will help choose the dynamic duo, they'll create a long-term strategy for a bold plan full innovative future for Chelsea football club, and will it work? Who knows? Look, there's so much to admire about Potter. He is a brilliant man, a tactician. A personnel motivator. Above all these shins a deeply empathetic leader and his rise from oster sons in Sweden, where is that? It's nowhere to the Pinnacle of English football has been truly earned through grind through innovation and a willingness to embrace different ideas and to stand there. In England where they do not take difference easily or lightly and be reasonably different because their own gent and there's always an unknown in any move like this, can a regional bank manager produce unprecedented growth in the fourth quarter in a backwater branch. Make that leap to CEO can agendas work with self motivated, hungry young footballers who is given the opportunity to lead ego driven superstars who can't remember how many lambos they even own. And also balance the Premier League load with a side order of Champions League, can a gent who's used to love and patience, succeed at that Shark Tank, that trigger happy Shark Tank that is Stamford Bridge. Where anything other than victory is defeat. And does Burley have any idea of what he's doing at all? Let's remember in every regard football has a habit of making a fool out of all of us. Let's wait and see. Next question. Hey, Raj. Familyman right in hove, I'll be in fan calling from a town in the French Alps. Originally from St. Paul Minnesota. I began supporting my beloved Siegel during the Chris hughton years of championship, covertly watching matches on my laptop and law school. Over the years, I've experienced the joy of promotion, the butt clenching high wire act of rail allegation. And the clubs are record top flight 9th place finish last year. Two weeks ago, I took my parents to the AmEx to see the clinical strangulation of the American badger complete with a full water bottle spike from Jesse marsh. And finally convinced my 67 year old father to support Brighton and not my brother's side arsenal. I had just begun to dream of a way days in Prague and Copenhagen. I bet your arm offer Albania. Now, with today's news that our one true talisman genius tactician and man manager Graham Potter is likely heading to the supreme mess that is Chelsea. I find myself horribly deflated during prematurely the loss of something that I never actually had I'm sure there's a German word for that. On the one hand, I didn't fall in love with Brighton because I had dreams of success. On the other, don't we, eagles fans, old and new with club was on the brink of oblivion, less than 25 years ago, deserve a brief thorough ride more than Chelsea. My question is this. In this arrow of hedge fund managers and petrol state owners should supporters of clubs like Brighton ever allow themselves to dream or are we doing ourselves? Because when it does somehow start to exceed your wildest hopes, you simply place the target on your back and hasten your own demise. Courage. I could certainly use them right now. Sam, you beautiful human being. I ate for you. I eat for all Brighton fans. I mean, who is talking about the brain funds right now? You have soared so high. You have touched the clouds. And then you've had your wings stolen from you, even before they could melt in the sun. That is bloody cruel and football is cruel. It's sick. Modern football. You know, I was thinking about Leicester City yesterday and their champion season and the joy that that brought to fans all over the world and rather it brought you everywhere, apart from the boardrooms of the big 6 where they must have had conference calls to discuss how they can make sure that kind of fun. That kind of dream, that kind of possibility could never happen again in certain evil laughter there. No fun league. And the funny thing is, there is a food chain. So Sam, whomever you take, whoever your next manager comes on, the team you prize in from is going to feel the same pain as you do, but be even less heard from. So spare a thought for poor bodo glimp fans, if you will, because amongst the names favored, yet Andre postage lugus of Celtic. You Thomas Frank's your potch is your Bros is jetty knutson, the 53 year old manager of Rory Smith European night's favorite Norwegian side near the attic circle, bodo glint, and nonsense is an innovator, a genius, a pathfinder very much like Graham Potter and whatever he does near the Arctic circle. Can it work in the English Premier League? Who knows? But the bright and brain trust is smart and data driven and strategic and I do believe Sam is going to be happy days for you to come up the seagulls. Let's have a blast of your song. Sussex by the sea.

"Is seen a little humble teams have a just an incredible moment in the spotlight. That's what makes the Premier League special. Is it on their day? Any team can win. And I do need to acknowledge a moment of sheer class from Liverpool that should be lost within the goal avalanche was watching Jordan Henderson exit the field towards the end of the game lifting up his Jersey and paying tribute to 9 year old liver puddle, Olivia, practical bell whose murder up the city, the entire nation last week. We've always said football at its best. It happens when it transcends sports and Jordan Henderson is perpetually the most human captain in the game. Southampton nil Manchester United won a neon clad Manchester United win their second on the bounce and their first league game on the road since last February, the difference here, a really well worked Bruno Fernandes goal that came as a result of some lovely incisive football down the united rights, still plenty of Discord surrounding the club, but united fans will be happy to get things back on track these last two games rod. Yeah, drop your stars for the get up game against Liverpool, let the Old Trafford atmosphere fill their collective spirit with adrenaline and pow. But would that war eagle spirit still bird a wheat leash against Southampton? Eric ten harg went to find out with the exact same starting 11 that put Liverpool to the sword, Cristiano would manage from the bench alongside new boy casimiro and Devo. Do you believe Casimir, the human cube, when he said he was, quote, the happiest man in the world upon his arrival at Old Trafford. He's a much richer man in the world right now without a doubt. So that may be, that may be enough. I mean, happiness works in a different way for different people. Certainly he's happier now than he would have been ten days ago arriving in Manchester roger. On one hand, as you say, he is getting a reported $412,000 a week, but we all know money does not buy happiness. And maybe maybe just bear me out there listeners, maybe casimiro is a massive, massive Smiths fan and as long been fascinated by the roots of the industrial revolution, could be just an obsessive history birth and there's just so excited to be in the cradle of modern industrial history and the game began United's defensive line playing so much higher up the field. Sean of the cumbersome Maguire means they could attempt to hem in Southampton, have their full books overlap at will. It worked until it didn't work. I got to say Southampton do have so much youthful energy. We may a lavia star in the making. He's just 18. Both teams, wide open chances that they snatched at and missed a moment of snapping fast brace front to back football out, gave united the lead in the 56 minute. If you only saw this one highlight, you'd think they were actually fantastic because it was beautiful. Yeah, it was a united move of your one touch football across on the right from dalo that almost looked like it was too far back, but there he was just inside the edge of the box Fernández and what a finish on the volley. Right into the corner with the touch of a tender lover and it should be said Southampton should have had a penalty. Touch the ball with his arm. I think both arms. I think not once, but three times in the penalty area was this moment Scottish volleyball histories. Finest. Yeah. Haggis ball. I don't know what it is. I don't know what they call that at the highland games, but yeah, there was a lot of arm and a lot of shoulder. You think it's just Kate. That would say keep a tossing is legal. I don't know if I'm actually interpreting this right because I did consult the rules. My interpretation is, consecutive touches, if you are Scottish and play for Manchester United, actually cancel each other out foreign interpret it as loves me. Yes, loves me not style. So united it should be said, really rude a look. They didn't exactly shut the game down. Southampton continued to create chances, but a winners a win massive win after 7 straight away defeats. For now, the bleeding, the hemorrhaging has been stopped stench while you can't say it was a dominant performance. You know, you can't play a Liverpool every week. This was three more points, a clean sheet, slaying the can't win away narrative, the memory of that great Brentford humiliation continues to recede they though. I think it's really important. Eric ten hog can now have some kind of a platform of which to assert control to a lead, not just a certain self, but really forced through the transfers that he wants, as well as his ideas on the training ground because no one thunders up to 8th place louder than Manchester United. As you said, four games played 6 points, two wins on the bounce. This is good, a very, very different man united than two pods ago. Yes, Dave out indeed what a humble redemption story and the weekend got better for united fans with news breaking last night about the arrival of a $100 million striker Anthony from Ajax, second most expensive united player ever behind Pogba, ten hog just how imagine if screaming to his front office, get me more men called Anthony. That's what I need. And believe. Okay, Nottingham Forest nil Tottenham two spurs emerged victorious behind a brace from who else, Harry Kane. We should say this wasn't all rainbows and Conte gass after Kane put spurs up 1 million 5th minute forest actually took the game to spurs at times. And after dean Henderson, the surname mash up of Mike dean and Jordan Henderson made a quite incredible save on a cane penalty. Forest actually had opportunities to level the score, but in the 81st minute, your former flame richarlison, who came on as a sub slung a ball across the box to tea, came up for his second of the day spurs are up to third with three wins and just the one drawer. We will get to him but not in forest. What club? What an enigma of a squad as Miguel Delaney noted before kick-off, the tricky trees have brought 17 players already this season, which is two more than the number of 15 players that they used in totals who win the league back in 1977, 78. And God bless the forest fans. They create an incredible den, savoring every second that they return to the Premier League, which filters down to their players who charge around with enthusiastic abandon until pretty much the first time spurs got on the ball charging into forest territory, cooler, slipping a nifty reverse ball to Harry Kane, who scuffing the ruled at home past an unsighted and flat footed dean Henderson. Alexa show South Carolina fans the one true force in sports no one as the cop commander, incredible stat for you, David. And we seem to be breathless about him

"Peps, 7th season, as Manchester City manager, his 7th captain ahab esque pursuit of Champions League glory began amidst the bubbles of West Ham. For which he filled this team sensibly in high vis yellow shirts, halland and Grealish started for city. David is a hellish or is it Greenland? I think it's, I think it's whatever Harlan decides Grealish is so besotted with the man. I think he'd do anything. It changed his name in a second. He changed his first name to erling. It would be erling Grealish. Some incredible scandal country where the lead exports are wailing in cod liver oil extraction. I'm going to go with that. And all the talk was about how land and just how long how many weeks how many months would it be a full season? For him to bed in. Miguel Delaney a fantastic article I think it was Thursday or Friday drop that God eola wants Helen to press much more. Wants to educate the player. There was a delicious detail, which I thought you'd love Dave. Well, Guardiola caused moose players by their first name. Yeah, you know, your jacks, you fill it when the fecal food and flip or probably just sun Ginger care, he calls them all by their first names. He always in training cause halam boya. So don't remind you of school. It does Holland. I know. It's the big boy. He's got to control him, or he's going to he'll literally destroy everything in the dressing room and everybody, all of his teammates, all of the back room, everything. And put John stones down. There are people. I realize this, if you naturally call by their first name, there's people who naturally call by their second in this people whose names, they just constantly are called by boot. If you're called Alex Daniels, you are just constantly, but everyone says, hello, Alex, Daniels. It's very weird how that works. I never quite understand when you call people by two days, but that's how it works and how land is most definitely a hall and West Ham opened in proper Moyes fashion despising space city, attempted to unleash all their weapons, your food and circadian grill issues. You couldn't the ones to contort and confuse city wanted the ball and space, west and preferred neither. And it was also so bloody hot, which did not help the spectacle 90° in London, David English people melted 86 and above. Yeah, maybe lower. Maybe above 60. I mean, this was it was remarkably warm there. And it was just like watching her land loll up around like Chekhov's gun that we didn't even have to wait for the third act for that gun to go off 35th minute they vote. Yeah, gun to one with a through ball. I mean, they hadn't managed to make a through ball to her land, which is kind of an achievement in itself. He's so fast, he's so big. His stride is almost like the entire penalty area in two strides. He gets onto the end of the ball. He didn't look like he was going to make it. He makes it by a mile and the poor sub goalkeeper takes him down. I mean, you could almost feel the earth's shaking when Holland hit the ground. And penalty, stone cold. God, it was exactly that a slipped in reverse pass charged was less charged pounce upon with stealth blistering pace. And you're right, the substitute goalkeeper areola was just full on deer in headlights, brought him down and halland slapped the resulting penalty home, his first shot on target for city is first goal. I think he's got a debut goal on almost every team he's played on. He then dropped into his lotus position of zen and I realized in that moment they eat us all, isn't it? It was an amazing. It was a beautifully taken penalty as well, and I mean, the one thing I'd say, this was a, it was a, it was a penalty one in the way that I don't think any other player in the Premier League could have won that penalty. It was a penalty taken in the way that I'm not sure that there's another strike in the Premier League who would take one and hit it that hard right into the side of the netting with his left foot. I realized watching him just how ruthless he is just how much he just gets on with it after scoring as we will discuss at the final whistle. He's got the charisma of an assassin in those born franchises that just like that evil expert in wet work who we see and murder tons of people and then his activated from afar to come and clipboard and this gentleman just seems invincible, but you kind of know somehow born's going to strangle him with a lamp cord after a furious hand to hand fight in a brothel in a Rio favela. At Jupiter's one tweeted, Helen's assassin code name codfish. That's so fun, because he does look like one of the Central European terrorists in die hard, roger. Yes. If you remember that film, he really looks like he runs better. Pretty well, 99% of any movie that was made in the 90s haland is ripped from really essentially the heel. Second half, more of the same West Ham, 23% possession. They did a flickering chances in transition, Declan rice blazed the ball high and wide with the best one. West Ham were empowered by that feeling, emboldened even the crowd started to lean into the game, the team pushed up that was roars around the London Stadium and it all turned out to be a big fatal mistake right, David. And the second goal, roger, this was this was truly, truly impressive. De Bruyne that stunning ball slipped into space where the Bruin of envisioned it before it happened the huge hulking mass of early hallowed charge forward, really. You watch him in this moment, would you say that the body of Shaquille Neil match with the speed of Jamar chase? Yeah, it is the speed, which is, I mean, you look at harland and you just look at the physical size of him. But it's really the speed that makes him so, so absolutely devastating. I don't know many strikers that would try and finish that with their first touch, most strikers would take a touch to control the ball and then try and lash at home. He just got his body shape perfectly thrashed it as Peter drury screamed. Helen, he always scores. He always

"When you know I'm sick. I'm sick of your motor. You know, the reality is he's not gone as they conquer a continent. They really do. On their pre season tour. And this week, one in the eye for team Ronaldo Chelsea publicly ended their interest in Ronaldo top bullies, people briefed the press that he, Todd, quote, doesn't want individuals who still the spotlight in his team and PSG have distanced themselves to according to reports in Portugal Wednesday, an unnamed club in Saudi Arabia. I wonder if that's Newcastle have offered with a little bit of trouble. The Newcastle have nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. So in the Emirates of pith. I think that's where Thomas the tank engine lives on the aisle. Whatever the club is, currently there are probably because they've not been founded yet and they will be founded if he says yes. And a contract worth about a $140 million a season that's so many, but the gen has announced he wants to leave united because they're not in the Champions League. So that would be a bit of a move for him to go to a team that are not even in Europe. Dave out as the great Manchester United supporting GF OP at Stephen the thorn summed up in his tweet. I don't know what's sadder. Ronaldo wanted to leave my Manchester United for Champions League football or Ronaldo find out that no Champions League sides actually want him, Dave out, what do you make of it all? Well, it's fascinating. I mean, in the great history of holdouts. I'm not sure there's ever been a player who has loathed his home team more than Ronaldo loves Manchester United. Like he really properly was. I love the rid of that. Remember, we pursued that stuff that he loves them. Maybe it was his accent. When I said I love Manchester United, I was saying, I love you misunderstood me. I didn't mean I love. I meant a loaf. Well, and on the other hand, you've got Eric tan Hager, manager who has said some things that he seems to want Ronaldo, but you've got to suspect that behind the scenes he might not want him to completely disrupt his squad and disrupt his preparation. Doesn't want this ronel look. I mean, it's a giant stinking mess. Of course, as a neutral, I would love to see Ronaldo back at Manchester United because it just gives us so much to talk about. I didn't say I loathe Manchester when I said I love that meant I love. I love I love there's a thin line that's the pretenders used to sing between love and hate for Ronaldo, there's a thin line between love and love and it depends whether he's going to go or stay. Which one he decided absolutely is for watching all of this. I'm trying to work out where can Ronaldo go David PSG have said they don't want him by Munich. I mean, all of this, I'm watching I just think, my God, that's LAFC's music, but God bless Eric ten hog, I do feel for him. This is, this is a tough bloody, this is like a, you're trying to impress, you're trying to show leadership. You're trying to show a new culture new direction and someone just backs up a truck full of horse crap and just loads it in your office with the world watching. But he's battling on too many fronts with this implosion going on while doggedly attempting to praise first choice midfielder Frankie de Jong away from the frankly complex and confounding money hole that is Barcelona. I think they're using new maths with their accounting very new math. I don't have any sense of how they're doing what they're doing but God loved them. But we should say, you know, he's fans you have signed spiky coveted Argentinian defender lisandro Martinez for $54 million a gent fabulously nicknamed the butcher of Amsterdam and expect Martinez to be the latest, highly respected center back to be mysteriously rendered impotent upon his arrival at Old Trafford. United manager ten hog reunited with the 24 year old whom he signed for Ajax back in 2019 and the other Sony for united, this one's filled with sweetness and joy and goodness, David. Christian Ericsson. Arriving at Old Trafford, the jealous Miguel Delaney joked. Maybe united should just, you know, go and buy axe. I always feel every year we say this about preseason, right, is that every team seems to be woefully unprepared at the beginning of the season. It takes some three to four games to get ready. In a league where the difference between finishing first or second or finishing fourth versus 5th is so important, does the amount it just feels like this year, the amount that these teams, not Liverpool, not man city, not arsenal have done their business early not Tottenham, but you look at man united, and you look at Chelsea, I'd have to say, and certainly other teams sort of up and down the league, and they are woefully late in their preparation. Yeah, God, to see Eric's in pawn a Manchester United Jersey. That that will be a thing. I think Bruno competition is probably the idea or part of the idea around this arrival. Erickson will bring that creative consistency to a united team has cried out for that kind of force after the failed debacle that was Pogba two electric boogaloo. He leaves Brentford, we should acknowledge as a cult hero. His arrival, you can really track Ericsson's arrival with the bees changing in fortune of their campaign last season. It's an exaggeration to say he alone kept them up. But his arrival changed the momentum of that entire season and my lord Brentford will be left with a true void in his absence. Chelsea don't want Ron Ron binx, as we said, but improve. Todd Burley listens to this podcast and heard my cries for a center half, Chelsea have signed Senegalese starred callado killa Bali from Napoli, meanwhile, they defeated club America two one in Las Vegas Saturday night Tommy dukes loves him a bit of pi Gao poker. "Always supposed to be an easy, clear cut top four. And for arsenal and spurs to have kind of broken through that with the help of Manchester United, that is an achievement. And it'll be interesting to see how it goes. One final note on this, JJ, dejean, cool eski came off the bench for spurs, got an assist. I just saw a stat here that I thought was pretty amazing. So he's played, he was signed in January. He's played in 14 matches for Tottenham. He has 8 assists already. That's 6 most in the Premier League this season. He has been that trident at the top there of sun Cain and cool assess key has just been massive. And Lucas Morris started the match and did nothing to make anyone think that they were, you know, that Lucas moura was unfairly ousted from that spot. He did not play well and cool as he came in and was really important. Miguel Delaney is a great piece. This is his tweet for the piece. There's never been serious interest in son, which is remarkable, because he's one of the Premier League's best modern players and certainly want to spurs. I have said that before. Yeah, I don't get it. I don't get it. I'm fine with it, but I don't get it. I wonder, is it some kind of, and it's impossible to know, is it the fact he's Korean? Do we still have these kind of hang ups about players from that part of Asia? Because I remember. I can't imagine that. I remember, I wouldn't think so either. But I mean, as Miguel says, bare Munich are among the few clubs to have expressed anything even approaching serious interest, which is remarkable given sans output. It is not just that he is so prolific and so productive. It is that he is a personal catalog of spectacular goals. Each one special in different ways. Like he's been a brilliant player. Yeah. But you know, I'm not trying to create something here when I ask about him being Korean being a factor. It's just I do remember a time when English football and maybe even European football had a kind of a raised eyebrow attitude to recruiting and taking in players from Japan, so Korea, just a fact. I remember, I remember a particularly famous commentator when I can't remember who it was. Give me a second there, but it was a Japanese player was playing for. Roma. Oh, excuse me, nakata. And he was playing against Liverpool and you were for cop game, and the commentator he was substituted off in the second half. And commentator, I'll never forget listening to it because I thought that is a bit weird. Commentator goes on nakata is a substituted off and he's done as well as anybody. I know. Well, like patronizing almost? Yes. Well, look, I don't know. I don't know what the reason is. He signed a contract through 2025. So I don't really remember moments where he had this contract that was long-term. That doesn't really matter. Like players can still say I want to go like once things started to look like they were going poorly for Tottenham. He could have still said that kind of like what Harry Kane did. He's never really done that. He seems pretty happy at the club. He always has he's a fan favorite and in terms of where he comes from and that influencing interest in him. I almost think the reverse. Like we sometimes talk about American players. And whether or not they are appealing for Premier League clubs to have because of the fan base that they attract. If you watch a Tottenham match, like when they scan the crowd, there is always a very prominent South Korean presence in their stadium. You see the flag, you know, you see his Jersey as much as you see anyone else's, and I would think if you were a big club kind of surveying the situation, you would, you would almost like if you were in your meeting thinking about players and like you've got your soccer guys on one side and you've got your marketing guys on the other, and when they come together on these kinds of decisions, it would be like, wait a minute, this guy is amazing and it could bring in this new fan base into the realm of our club. I would think it would almost add to his appeal. You know, he's very comfortable in the spotlight. Personality is great. I don't know. It's always, it's interesting that Miguel Delaney wrote that. I'd want to read that piece because it's always, it's always been a video. It doesn't give a real answer for it. It's always been a mystery to me as well. And one that I'm fine with. But yeah, that's interesting. That's interesting that he brought that up. Finally, JJ, before we take our break here, we should mention, of course, the status quo remaining at the top of the table as well. We mentioned Manchester City, four nil over leads, Liverpool, nabi Keita gets the winner for them one nil over Newcastle team that we talked about last week that had been hot. And so whatever chaos is unfolding beneath them, they up to this point have been immune to it. Yeah, very much so, and it feels as if this is going to go. Obviously it will go to the last day because of the points difference, but that both teams are going to win out and Manchester City will be crowned champions. It just has that feeling because you can't see where either side are going to be beaten there just in a different stratosphere to the rest of the league right now. Who Manchester City? And Liverpool both of them. So they're going to bolt and Liverpool on city will win the league by a point. There goes JJ putting up emotional walls to prevent discipline..

"For them that most people didn't see coming. So if fans want to market, they can, but for Tottenham and arsenal in a season where it did not feel like it was heading this way. Like on paper, this was always supposed to be an easy, clear cut top four. "Salutes in the game last week, I think. As well as the Champions League anthem getting booed, the taking the knee was getting booed, which is something we've talked about that happens at a lot that's happened at leti before. And something that we've mentioned numerous times that there is a large portion of that fan base that is extremely right wing. Some of the stuff that I saw about Atleti was just like, yeah, they don't play this way all the time. Actually. And actually, over the last couple of years, I've actually seen more variation in the way that they play, not necessarily game by game, but as maybe as a whole sample size. And quite a lot of other top teams in Europe, because we've talked about this quite a lot how. Atleti kind of opened up a little bit in that title, winning season, and then they had injuries in COVID and they kind of panicked a little bit and they tried to go back to the old school way, it had already kind of felt like they'd pushed on a little bit too much to really tap into that mindset again and a lot of the players who were from those vintage shit out Atleti teams weren't really there anymore. They have by far the best squad in La Liga or they did at the beginning of the season I think Barcelona have closed the gap in terms of a squad but I still don't think they still think that Letty have the best squad. They've underperformed in the league this season. They've underperformed in a lot of key games. They have been quite frustrating because they haven't utilized the attacking tools, but I also think that tearing into athletic in this time, particular. We'll talk about what happened at the end separately. I'm talking about purely from a tactical point of view. I think it's a little bit harsh. Because yeah, they're not underdogs. Man city aren't playing Freiburg. Atleti do have a large amount of revenue. But there's still a huge gap between that leti and the very, very Pinnacle of European clubs in terms of revenue. There's a little bit of column in a lot of column B I think if you combine quite a lot of the theory together, you kind of get somewhere near the truth. And actually Miguel Delaney wrote piece of Independence Day, which I think was quite a good summary. Of everything that I thought. Yeah, I think you would expect more from Atleti over the last year. Well, not over the last year because they won the league, but I think in Europe over the last couple of seasons, you've seen quite a prime example of what we've talked about with TBI is that he kind of gets stuck, it's like you have all these ingredients in front of you, I'm going to use a mouse or a quango cooking. You've got all of these ingredients in front of you. That you could make a super intricate, beautiful, high end meal. Lots of volume on the plate like they like in my chef. They like volume. Yes. Height. A bit of height to the plate. However, there is a can of beans there. So you just make beans on toast. You know, even though you could do the rest of it because yes, keep it practical. You know exactly. You make.

"And they will tweak what they do in the game city like the city did this brilliant habit of a kind of an outside in ball in behind deliverable fullbacks that gave them lots and lots of trouble. Liverpool can tweak their the way they play it too. But both teams have fundamentals Andrew. They don't move away from they will both play a high line. They will both go after the game and try to win it. That leaves gaps that leaves opportunities city at Soleimani, they probably should have won the game in the first half. They didn't, they left city, and they left Liverpool in it. Liverpool got back. But it's just the attitude to the game. It's just let's go and play. And we'll have our system and the chips will fall where they may. No, that suggests that it's complete abandoned. It isn't. There's tactical things. There's thoughts and there's nuances in the game and there is planning. But it is so open, it's fun to watch. And I'm just absolutely enjoying it. And I can't even imagine I mean, city are going to be tired after draining game in Madrid, Liverpool less or so Saturday is going to be just another brilliant game. I think we're really spoiled. It's so entertaining. Last Sunday was the zenith of sport. It was so good. It was just so good. And. Parking all your reservations there will be plenty of people say, well, Manchester City, the most lavishly funded project in the history of football. Of course they should be good. Well, that's not always true. It doesn't always work out like that. And the respect the two managers have for each other. I can early was making the point that you got it. It's almost nauseating. At the end of the game, I'm waiting for, oh, high 5, chest bump, secret handshake. All right, we get it. You love each other and respect for one another is through the roof. Yeah, some edge. Right. So that was the big debate coming into it. And I saw Miguel Delaney and our own Alex Shaw, ESPN, get into it. On Twitter. So Miguel was saying, oh, this is the biggest rivalry now. And Alex took exception to the term. No, no. Don't forget Alex is a Manchester United supporter. So there's a lot of, there's a lot of been taken by united fans right now to help them cope with the fact that they are a complete irrelevance to the top of the table right now. But Alex did make some good points. And a point, the kind of speaks to what you were saying. He said that in terms of a rivalry, like the players at the managers, they don't hit each other. No, the opposite. They like each other. The hatred is in the, is in the twittersphere and in the stands. The two supporters, the enmity between city and Liverpool supporters is palpable. That is very real. That rivalry is very real. But in terms of the players, apart from a few incidents, you know, Gomez and Sterling, having a fight at an England training camp and things of that nature, that the playing staff and the coaching staff, they love each other. And you're right. It is jarring to see it. Like Pepsi sought out club. He walked past off and then he swung around to do this like really dramatic high 5. You know, it was a high 5 handshake. Wasn't it? And they embraced. It's like in an 80s movie. When somebody comes up with an idea and then the idea works and they swing around and they have this dramatic over the top embraced. That's exactly what this was. And yeah, that leaves people nauseated back to what Alex Shaw was saying. Alex Shaw said, compared to arsenal and man united between 1997 and 2005, let's give that 8 year period. This is nothing. This is absolutely nothing. You think of all the incidents in those games. Keenan Vieira brawling in the tunnel, brawling on the field, pizzagate, the managers openly hostile in the media to each other. And some good games and some really just like physical battles. Ken earley's point on this is that because there's none of that pit of your stomach like dogs of war, ready for a battle mentality from city and Liverpool. That venom that hatred isn't there. And it doesn't build up in match week that the games are better. Alex Shaw's point is that as an actual rivalry, it's not as good. As wenger Fergie. Yeah, it can, it is a rivalry. I just want to say that. There's no question. But it's not like it might define this era because of the success of these two clubs. But it certainly it enhances a rivalry when it's not just the fans who don't like each other. When you know the guys on that field don't like one another, there's something added to it. It just is. But again, it's on YouTube, people should go and watch it. King versus Vieira, where the two guys sit down and they talk about those years. Roy Keane said, in the lead up to an arsenal game. His body would start to ache. As if it was preparing itself for the pain. Like, that is mad stuff. That is crazy stuff. I guarantee you that's not happening to a single player. Are they getting nervous, city and Liverpool players? Yeah. Are they excited? Yeah. But it doesn't inhibit the way they play. Or it doesn't mean that they're going to go flying into tackles. You're right. It doesn't have the edge. It will be, it would be nice if it has if it had, I think. If you could add that thing to it, but maybe in terms of spectacle, we're getting the better side of it. To go back to the conversation about the league and what's left and your contention that it's now clearly cities to lose. I'm not there yet. I still believe that it's essentially a toss up for.

"What? Can I go back to Friday night, David? Before I went to bed. I was about to turn the lights off and my wife God bless had just turned to me and she said, as long as I've known you, roger, our whole relationship, you've had Everton to shout out at the television. And she said, what would you be without that? And I honestly, I honestly didn't know the answer just the sense of doom Friday night felt so unstoppable, so freefall, so palpable. And she's right Everton are this beautiful force in my life, this tragic force too. Son mankind's God bless you, one of the human great. She tweeted me a lovely sentiment. She said, here's my elemental idea. Everton is your child and you love him or her no matter what. What do you think I'm fascinated? What do you think about that notion? I mean, Vanessa is aware that Everton would still be on television, even if they went down to the championship. I think he'd still be shouting at them. You'd be shouting if they're in the sort of the ryman league southern division or whatever it would be called. But yeah, your relationship with Everton, I've known a lot of football fans. I've known a lot of people who are well into their later years are still so passionate about their teams and they live or die on every performance, but your relationship with Everton is something is something beyond all of that. I mean, I talk a lot about what sun men tweeted and I will say, I love it, but Everton are almost more than that. Yes, they are my child, but also my dad, my mom, my grandparent, my drunk uncle who annoys everyone that the family occasion by sitting in the car and necking down beers before he comes in. They place so many roles and at different times. A football club you love. It's a shapeshifter. Sometimes they carry you. They're a fog. There are fog rods. There are 400%. They sort of, they sort of refer to whatever mood you decide to put on them at that moment. And sometimes they carry you. Other times you have to carry them and lift your club and that is what we saw on this day. This game day, in which Everton, I need to repeat this or in danger still in danger of being relegated for the first time since 1951. I was my throat was constricting a kick-off. My eyes sang. I felt like max von Sydow in the 7th seal poised to play chess with death. But the reality is, these two teams are so similar, albeit a different scales. They spent so much to produce so little. I mean, I Miguel Delaney tweeted this most pound for pound be the fixture between the two most underperforming clubs in Europe. Yeah, we both had revolving door managers, which at some point for both teams has only highlighted how the manager is really not the problem or the solution, just a hot mess. I mean, ultimately, both teams could have just taken billions of dollars, put it in a garbage can set it on fire. It would have been arguably better to watch than the quality of the football. But you know, Everton's players shuffled onto the field God love him in a style that have only seen before in Sean Penn's Oscar nominated role in dead man walking. They didn't even jog onto the field. They just like genuinely lumbered and I felt profoundly sick. It must stomach. Nervy start too. The players obviously felt that same kind of feeling of doom, Everton, couldn't complete simple 5 year old passes. The good news though, united with terrible too. For different reasons. And Frank Lampard very curious thinking, he choose to play a center backs. Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey, the two guys who in the last two games had each made a crucial error which had handed defeat to Everton football club. It almost as if he's like, I know my maths, two negatives makes a positive, but it didn't work. Everton toiled. And it was up to Jordan Pickford Dave out early on, I think, from rashford a couple of times to to bail us out several times that beautiful human being Jordan Pickford. Yeah, I mean, look, you need good fortune. Manchester United have a better collective of players on that field or better set of individual players we should say they hardly behave like a collective than Everton do and it takes some remarkable performances and some good fortune to keep them out and Everton definitely wrote that. One of the performances that matched that level that you're throwing down, which I'll listen, I've got to ask you this, how much better as a footballer would rich all of some B if he. If he thought of himself as a, you know, a footballer as opposed to an action hero marooned on the tropical beach armed only with a pair of nunchakus who must fight aliens and save the planet because he's just constantly in another world. And he's fighting a completely different battle to the rest of the team, but it is, it's a magnificent to watch. I don't know what's going on in his head, but it's not much win this football game. Yeah, must prove himself. It's just a fight for survival. He is one of the most competitive competitive humans who plays in the Premier League. I thought you were going to ask what would richarlison be like if he if he was playing on one of the top 6 teams. It might be a very here's in my head. As ritual as it is about what he's actually fighting, you mentioned luck, David, because luck has been against Everton. So very badly in the past 8 weeks and we would use and we got some on the 28th minute, the ball made out a young Ginger knob Anthony Gordon on the edge of the area. And did he mean it? Did he decide to, I think he meant to bank it in off con catch a break, Henry McGuire. It was rich Alison, Rogers started that move on the left chasing down a ball, showing aggression, did what he doesn't like doing that much past it into a wobbly laid it off beautifully. We should say and Anthony Gordon, your man, he just he just, you know, hit it in the general direction of slap head and the goal. And of course, because slap heads had worse like that everyone. Even Everton, slap head deflects it right into the net. Once had worse look than Everton, Harry Maguire keeps you in off him and the noise in my house. A thunderous rendition of Bonnie Tyler's holding out for a hero. What bloody joy. He's got to be strong. He's got to be fast. He's got to be Ginger and he's got to be fresh from the fight. Anthony Gordon stands out for this Everton football club down the stretch because the duke cares. He works so bloody hard, honestly. So many United players could learn by looking at this kid and his effort GFP at David 9 8 one three three ask. Is there anyone that looks more British than Anthony Gordon? He looks like every single Tommy in a First World War movie, ready to go over the top at the Somme and kill him some Bosch. Yeah, he is, he's got a good British slash Irish look about him. You know that Tupac hologram. If I could get you one thing, I would get you the hologram of that Anthony Gordon knee slide after that goal. Because it just would be for you to be able to have that and turn it on and put it on at any point in your back garden on stage and you're living room in your bedroom just before nest turns the light off..

"He wouldn't make this list for me. When angolo Conte is doing ngolo kante things, he's absolutely on this list for me. Right. But I just haven't found that to be the case right now. So that was what I went with, you'll see there's no messy on there, not right now. Yeah, I wanted to talk about that because again, senior Caravaggio, he just was dropping these amazing little nuggets throughout. Shadow of his former self. And he talked about how messy he talked with Thierry Henry about a messier to drop deeper to get on the ball because he no longer has the pace to do things or to get the ball in advanced areas, which I always thought Messi liked to drop deep anywhere getting involved. It's not a rare thing to see, but do you know what struck me? Way more than that. When he missed the penalty, why, first of all, why is he still taking penalties? This is just something he's not good at, which makes it as bad as you're saying. I thought I saw that he converted his last four, I think he's missed three in his last 9 or something. Oh, that's looking at something. That's not great, Andrew. You know, that's a third. Especially when there are other options in that team that could roll a penalty home. And Miguel Delaney said, it's amazing how possibly the greatest person ever at kicking a ball is so bad at the most basic acting football, just kicking the ball at goal from 12 yards. But what I found interesting was, his reaction afterwards was where he he looked panicked, he looked genuinely anguished and panicked, not cam, not cooler collected at one point on the edge of the box, there was a really good chance for I can't remember who it was. And he just he just tries to bundle that player out of the way and take the ball on himself, and he slashes at the ball. He suddenly becomes very aware of what the reaction will be. You know, messy, missing again. It's as if that all was in his head because he had this look of panic. Like I said, that one of the best players we've ever seen just shouldn't have. Yeah, he might think that because he's at PSG, the Champions League matches are the ones where he needs, he really needs to be himself. And not just the Champions League match, but against his old enemy in Real Madrid. 100%. So that could exist. The only reason that I would say Jamie Carragher's comments felt maybe slightly harsh is only because I mean, look, so he nessie started 12 of 24 matches so far this season in league on. New team, new league, new country, new system, after an entire life doing it one way, trying to transition into that while dealing with an injury that's caused you to mishap your team's games is it's probably not well suited to just like come in and continue being the greatest player we've ever seen. So if that qualifies for him being a, would you say a shell of his former self or a shadow? Yeah, maybe if we're going to compare to his former self being the greatest player of the world's ever seen, yeah, I suppose that's accurate. But I think I did see. Now some of this is weighted by the fact that he took a penalty. But I think messy himself had an XG of 1.13 in this game. So it's not like he's not involved. It's not like he's not doing things out there. He's just not finishing really in the way that we were accustomed to seeing in the past. He did one brilliant thing where he's got he's on the left hand side of the penalty box independently box, and he takes two guys on. And Andrew, just the angles. The geometry of the of what he did, the physics of it. Was he plays this brilliant cross which nobody read and nobody got on the end of it? Between two defenders with the outside of his left foot. He saw he's running along and he's just flicks it. Between the two defenders and it turns into this brilliant cross. Nobody read it because it's almost, it's just, it's like Sir Isaac Newton, talented townsfolk above gravity. Hey, there's this thing called gravity and their minds are just exploding. They don't know what he's talking about. Graham hunter, I always remember what Graham hunter told us about messy that he speaks his own language on the field. Yeah, and not everyone else can translate that language. And maybe right now, again, hasn't played a ton of games this season for PSG. So there's a lot of guys who are still learning it. Rail Madrid, we mentioned this earlier though, but I wanted to bring it up with two conservative negative approach I mean, did enchilada get it wrong? Can you really get it wrong at just one nail down? So a couple things. Just to sort of put in perspective what you're talking about because you noticed it, it wasn't something you expected to see. It's just not the way Real Madrid typically play, especially when they're good Real Madrid. Like we said, they're probably going to win their league. So it's just not, it's not something you would have thought you'd see. And.

"I come back. How is that? Not a football channel. Arsenal fancy every week from the terraces are going little dark and twisty. But then I come back, darker twisty, but then I come back. And here's the key one, Derek. Take it away Meredith. We're adults. When did that happen? And how do we make it stop? Sorry, Derek. That's actually nothing to do with arsenal. I think that actually should be evidence motto in Latin, where adults now, how did that happen? And how can we make it stop? Next question. Hello, Raj. It suddenly feels like a heavyweight getting into the ring with the Cruiserweight courage. Just then, bite your arm off for a Bahama mama right now in the face yes. Manchester City open up Saturday morning by hosting the Chelsea 7 30 time on peacock. It is a curious moment for this game to go down and you're right or right ish Chelsea to be clear remain a heavyweight team. They really do. Despite their eerie month, the very human feeling chaos, but what Manchester City have done over the past two months and full a different weight class we didn't know was possible like super duper heavy heavyweight or so they've just escalated. Peps mob currently in the middle of what is it? Like a 467 game winning streak approx. I can't keep count, but victory here let's be honest, we're just about guarantee a fourth title in 5 seasons after they use the holiday season to lay waste and devastate on naive concept of a three way title race. What were we thinking? Yeah, it felt too close to call two months ago. And now look at it. I mean, look at it. Awesome Venga. You still lament how the arrival of rumors of it at Chelsea and the opening of his oligarch fleshy Waller transformed the Premier League just completely and utterly made it. It's norms buckle. And you look at this clash and you have to say city have changed the game again. On Chelsea, the sheer amount of money they poured in yes, but city fans wait. It's also the clinical of their transfer strategy and of course Pep Guardiola's consistently brilliant quest for perfection. Those are the three pillars. And this Miguel Delaney note to this sort of whole piece in the independent this morning rivals have to pretty much be perfect to match city with an average of 2.52 points per game. Guardiola side are currently on course for 96 points, which means insanely ahead of this one, yes. It is an epic heavyweight rumble, but one, in which Chelsea might be the neutrals good guys. And I have to say, for those good guys, it is going to be revealing. It's going to be fascinating. See if Lukaku gets a stop and is trusted in such a big game too hall has spent the week making a case that he does believe big rom can play in his system. We will say I did find this refreshing though to this week being asked to reflect on the lessons he learned from the first matchup earlier this season against man city, which Chelsea lost one nil at Stanford bridge as ever. Thomas Tuchel's response and self criticism and reflection. They refreshing. What did you learn from the game against man city at Santa bridge earlier this season? That my approach was the wrong approach, tactically. It made us made us too passive. We could have done better, but I think the approach was too passive and to defensive. It was not meant like this, but it turned out this way. So lesson learned, we were like two aggressive for build up. They were too aggressive. We did not have the solution to escape from their own half. We defended very well in the last 1820 meters of the field, but we didn't see much of the other 70 meters. Second half was a bit better. It's a bit wild, but it's not the worst thing to have a wild match against against Manchester City. And to break to break out of all the structure and all the control situation. So second half was better. Yeah, less than next question. Roy. This is Chris from Pasadena, California. I am a war pig tie and MIV umbrel hooding hoodie wearing Everton supporter. And my question today involves the nonverbal communication the history onics on the field by Premier League players. I'm thinking of things like Ronaldo's move or he points his hands at the open space in front of him in the box after Mason Greenwood doesn't lay him off the ball. I'm wondering, what effect does that have on a locker room? Does that bleed discontent among the other players? Or is that just something that's still widely done that it's ignored? I'd love to hear your thoughts as always, Raj. Courage. Chris, what a beautiful city you live in. Thank you for your support both of us. And Everton football club more on the blues below. You're asking about reynaldo and Manchester United at a genuinely fascinating time. They travel to Aston Villa, Saturday, 1230 p.m. Eastern Time, NBC proper for round two of their evenly balanced clash, which will be forever reinforcements, villa fans will hope that freshly signed Philippe Coutinho little wizard turned costly Barcelona foley will play at least some part kazoo aficionado, denier two and for Chris hermos team, Ronaldo could be back after his mystery not mid week and to answer your question first quick caveat. I don't know if you know this, but not actually in the Manchester United locker room, so this is from the outside, Phil compelled to say this, but your question does hint at the right issue for united at the moment, the club culture, a lot of briefing of journalists by agents and players and players agents about just the darkness which has set in at Old Trafford 11 players once away. Locker room cultures are fragile entities. We know they're C the Juventus locker room and their key players comments of what it was like to share space with. Ronaldo, who scored so many goals in Italy in his time there, but made the collective poorer much poorer in the process. And when you're watching it this season, you know, you can see the Ronaldo narrative has gone through an evolution from his arrival, which I understood this. You know he fans few by incredible memories, incredible memories of glory, nostalgia, great games past also egged on by British broadcasters who hailed his bright arrival as title changing at the time. To the reality that he was not what he was, you know, imagination. He can still.

It kind of feels like we're watching GameStop and blockbuster change just fade away before our eyes outrun by time. I've got to say that I still bloody love the FA Cup third round. I think Miguel Delaney wrote beautifully about it. I'd read his piece in the independent that dropped this morning where he said the third round remains genuinely unique. It's the finest distillation of the opportunity inherent to such a precious scoring sport. Anyone can meet anyone an open drawer, opening minds with the very chaos of it all ensuring and I think can happen. That is what really sets up this weekend. It's the anticipation. The maybe the potential and few sporting events offer a similar sense of opportunity, almost no other football events do.
