"Maybe two. After the first game that happened in Tokyo. And after that, I woke up at a nice four 57 a.m. alarm. Wow. Yeah, so there's a crash coming later today, yes? Louis, like, I did go back to Ben. After the game, so kind of in and out, but we'll see what happens, but it was very funny because I was thinking of the fact of, hey, this is one buster gets up. So, you know, there are people who do this every day. All right, let's play the numbers game. Number three. Number three is 41. So speaking of the world baseball classic, the U.S. will play its first game. This weekend on Saturday. And Adam Wayne Wright has been named that game one starter. He will be 41 years and a 193 days old on Saturday that will make him before the oldest pitcher to start a world baseball classic game. The only gods older than him to start a WBC game where Roger Clemens twice in 2006 and Netherlands great rob quarterman in 2017. Number two number two is 7. So the world baseball classic is now in its 5th iteration. So we have enough of a sample size to talk about all time leaders. And Alfredo despondent of Cuba is the all time home run leader with 7 and then someone that we're very familiar with here in the U.S. Miguel Cabrera has 6, which is tied for a second most. Number one number one is 5. So speaking of Mickey, he and Oliver Perez, if either both of them, whenever they get into a game during this world baseball class, they will be the only players have participated in all 5 world based ball classes and got Cabrera of course on the team then as well a roster

We have more Americans working today in the private sector than any day under my predecessor, more today than any time in American history. He also acknowledged the anxiety among Americans about soaring inflation and also noted recent declines in gas prices. brilliant outing despite not factoring the decision he allowed just two runs on one base hit over 6 and a third he struck out 8 while Josh Donaldson and his second Homer of the season Elsewhere Miguel tools that a metaverse can bring allows you to create more immersive content Companies are beginning to sell less oil more electrons Research and data on 2000 companies and 130 industry The supply chain breakdown is combining with labor shortages As you see manufacturers continue to dominate or will there be a renewed interest in western manufacturers Bloomberg intelligence with Alex Steele and Paul Sweeney on Bloomberg Over the next hour we will dig inside the big business stories impacting Wall Street and the global markets each and every week we provide into research and data on some of the 2000 companies and 130 industries our analysts cover worldwide Today we break down earnings from the biggest banks on Wall Street Plus even though Apple has returned over $630 billion to shareholders over the past decade the payouts are not slowing down But first let's dig into the media space We've had a lot of M and a over the last several years big media companies getting trying to get even bigger to compete against some of these technology companies It's bringing Keith that wrong enough and BI senior media analyst So Keith one of the deals was Warner Brothers which was part of AT&T got spun out of AT&T merging with another pretty good sized media company discovery communications so now we have Warner discovery at pithy name Talk to us about this new company here Warner discovery How does it fit into the big media landscape Absolutely Paul and thank you So Warner brother discovery is created really a new media heavyweight in the media space This is the second largest media company after Disney in terms of revenue And really the aim here was for them to not just kind of merge their linear TV assets but to really go after streaming in a very very big way And if you kind of just look at the portfolio of the two companies it's a very very complementary portfolio So you have discovery which kind of specializes in reality TV in nonfiction content And then with HBO Max you really have a brand name in terms of scripted dramas and originals And so now you really have this very complementary portfolio which can kind of go after the big streaming players that are that have already kind of gained a lead or whether it's Netflix or Disney but this definitely this combination definitely offers a unique proposition to consumers Yeah it's interesting A lot of content you think about Warner Brothers one of the leading studios in Hollywood plus as you mentioned all the great programming that discoveries and all their cable networks have But again the big issue which I know you've been writing about for the past few years diligently has been this kind of change in the media business from one that was based upon cable systems satellite dishes One that's now streaming based Where are we in that evolution And will it ever be a really good business for these media companies You know a lot of the focus now has really shifted away from just simply streaming subscriber growth And now kind of scrutinizing the earnings potential of these businesses And I think the general sentiment is now veering towards a realization that maybe the new business model yes you can achieve subscribers scale but it is going to come at the expense of profits and what we've seen is if you look at the traditional cable business it has generated over a $100 billion in revenue every year for these big media companies and also a very very healthy EBITDA margin 35 to 40% EBITDA margins The problem with streaming is you're really kind of trading those analog dollars for digital pennies and so yes you can get scale but then the streaming wars have now kind of almost evolved into these spending wars And you have all of these companies spending something like a $150 billion of a $150 billion just to kind of feed that streaming beast if you will And what that results in is obviously a huge losses and it's going to take a very long time for any of these companies to kind of even break even on the streaming businesses It doesn't sound like an environment where these stocks can perform You want to own these things What are people thinking about this media space now I think what's going to happen is investors are really preparing for a shakeout of obviously you have Disney and Netflix which are kind of heading the streamers but Amazon and apple are also kind of quietly sneaking in and trying to get a stronger and stronger foothold Of course with Warner discovery I think we have a very credible top tier streaming player But again there's a lot of nervousness in the market right now not just with a general slowdown.

"Yep no doubt about it. And of course he got me to thinking about. Unanimous selections remove or deluxe. There are a bunch of players who have been on the ballot bonds and clemens. Being the most notable others coming along who have been linked to. Pd's in the past. Alex rodriguez my colleague and sunday night. Baseball david ortiz. There was a report about him. So let's set those guys to the side for the moment and just talk about players who haven't been linked in one way or the other two to pd's I was thinking about this about the hall of fame boat yesterday. Sarah and how You can't think of it as being in my opinion you can't think about the voting as you know. The writers collaborating deciding who's going to vote or not. Vote is one voter with one ballad front of her him and they have to decide whether or not a player is hall of fame worthy. And so when. I look at current players. I look at a guy like clayton kershaw to me no question. I don't know how you would vote against clayton. Kershaw with everything. He's done our pools. Miguel cabrera max scherzer and another one. Who is to this point. He's retired but he's gonna be on the ballot. I think in three years is adrian. Beltway trace. i don't know how you don't vote for any one of those five players. You just said the exact names. That i was thinking of as i knew you were asking me what active players recently retired players would be unanimous. I mean those were the exact names. I thought i thought of sherzer. I 'cause i wanna hopefully talk about him a little bit later. He's on my mind with getting close to three thousand strikeouts but all of those guys. I mean i i like how you say with one. Voter and on the ballot. I mean. I think that you almost need to think of it as within this one person's world should this be a unanimous hall of famer and it's like we have three hundred people or however many it is deciding if in their mind. This person is a unanimous hall of fame right. Because if you don't vote for them they aren't so i think that's kind of a different way to look at it but i one hundred percent agree. I'm so glad. You said belgium. Because i was like well he's not but i'm gonna say his name and then you said if i but i can't think of an argument against any of those guys and you know we talked about clayton kershaw ton after the world series last year. He didn't need that world series. But i'm so glad he got it. I think that that's the one remaining thing that may be one voter somewhere. In some corner. America might have said oh will never wanna title. He's done. he's done everything. And obviously max scherzer our pools. I mean there's just no question with any of these guys mcgaw cabrera. We've been celebrating. You know this past month or so which has been great. Really great to save right you. You wanna talk about max scherzer. We're gonna talk about Sarah awesome well. I always wanted to talk about mac. Serves or one of my absolute favorite pitchers to watch. And he's approaching three thousand strikeouts. He's most likely going to do this on saturday so hoping thursday ended the week here. We talk about this leading into the weekend. So he's six shies at two thousand nine hundred ninety four. He's going to be just the nineteenth pitcher with three thousand strikeouts last guy we saw yet here with us some burland and he's not just going to get there. I mean the incredible thing with max scherzer is that he's someone who i think. We really became aware of in this prominent role in two thousand thirteen when he won. Not american league cy young and you really got on the map but even for the fact that he wasn't necessarily as notable early in his career he was already off on a really great pace. So he's going to be the second fastest. Two three thousand strikeouts by either games or by innings pitched either way he's going to be trailing only randy johnson and they really think that's worth saying because i think some people look at his career as sort of a you know late middle to later career. Push that he's really been great over these last five or even i guess like seven years at this point but he's been great his entire career even those early years in arizona. He was racking up strikeout to starting this trend. You can't get to second-fastest ever to three thousand strikeouts unless you've been on that pace your entire career and for him to be second on that list behind randy johnson. Head of nolan ryan ahead of roger clements ahead of pedro martinez and justin berliner. I mean i think that's just so impressive yeah No question about it and you know he's got a chance to win. The cy young award. I danced between corbin. Burns in walkability paul. I'm bikinis was on yesterday and said there's no question right now burns the national league cy award leader i think The last four or five starts are going to determine that as we go down the stretch Yankees blue jays. Unbelievable how this is changing because the blue jays right now. Look like the unstoppable force and as of this morning they wouldn't even make the playoffs. Oh my gosh. I mean it's just been. I'm so glad that this just for baseball and for everybody. Who's watching this. Who maybe doesn't have a dog in the fight. I'm just so glad that this race has continued to stay interesting. I mean i remember talking with you probably a month ago and saying how badly i wanted to sue the blue days in the playoffs. Just to see junior bogus. Shut all these fun. Exciting players in the playoffs Seem like didn't didn't seem like they were going to do it. You know brad. Hand was their deadline acquisition. The bullpen not even on the team anymore. He's on the mets now. I mean they didn't seem to have made the exact moves. getting jose. barrios was great but it seemed like they need to address their bullpen. More and here. They are doing exactly what i thought they needed to do. In order to get into the claus which just bludgeoning teams. I mean scoring a ton of runs. And here they are and i was looking at their playoff odds lost night after the game ended after they updated on fan graphs. They're now up to forty two percent chance make the playoffs. I know it's still below fifty percent but on august twenty seven. They were five percent. And so if you look at it just shoots straight up over these last week and a half two weeks at this point and of course the yankees the team that is falling in the exact same pattern. So they're at sixty percent right now. Still above fifty percents still sounds like good odds but when you hear that on that same august twenty seventh state. They were at ninety eight percent. You really see the story of these two teams lately. And i felt like a lot of it was encapsulated in that ninth-inning yesterday i i know the blue jays were already winning. But when blind carreira junior steps up against her oldest chapman whose pitching to run game where the ink is are losing because he hasn't had worked lately because they haven't had saved situations lately the allows a home run. A hundred and fourteen point three mile. An hour homerun. That's two miles an hour faster than any bad ball. Aroldis chapman had ever allowed track by stack casts. Which since two thousand fifteen. I mean that's the yankees and how their bullpen has been looking lately. I know they were losing. But that was a very backbreaking homerun to me and as we move forward starting this weekend series. Basically teams have seven series left with the blue jays. The remaining seven series to are against the baltimore. Orioles who've been cupboard thoroughly on this podcast and turns out they struggled and to are against the minnesota twins who are also in the bottom five and run differential this year. that's I i mean those series could get ugly with the way. Toronto's offense is going right now we got about two minutes left. I want to cover to more To more items one. I mentioned earlier in the week..

"The dodgers have lost a couple and the giants too. But if i were an nfl team staring down one of those teams in wildcard. I would feel not confident. Maybe i would maybe not feel confident. So there's that yeah well we will return to the raise. A little later on in a step last segment wanted to follow up on something. You sort of idly mused about when we were talking about mika cabrera's five hundred home run. You mentioned that he had hit his five hundred home runs off of three hundred forty six different pitchers which yep sounded like a lotta pictures. But it's kind of hard to tell his that a high ratio or low ratio. Not necessarily the sort of thing you can answer off the cuff as you are recording a podcast. Fortunately we have very smart and industrious listeners. Who are able to look these things up in motivated to look these things up so we got an email from erin who looked into this question. He says i'm trying to learn python. And i decided to mix this interest with my favorite podcast generate some compelling problems to solve and thanks to the amazing work at retro sheet dot org. I was able to lend a little insight into megs question. Miguel cabrera's pitcher to homerun ratio is point six nine going back to nineteen fifteen. The average pitcher to home run ratio for all players is point seven one. That's calculated by taking the sum of unique pitchers for each player in the set divided by the sum of runs for each player in the set. So he's close to that pace but erin says. I thought this list is likely skewed by many players with just a few home runs after all every time someone hits a home run against a unique pitcher. They increase the chances that their next home run. We'll come against a pitcher. They have already taken deep breaking down the pitcher to home ratio in one hundred homerun segments shows a predictable trend. More home runs lower pitcher to home run ratio. The five hundred homer club has an average ratio of point. Four eight so for someone who homered as much. As miguel cabrera he has hit homers against a comparatively large number of pitchers. So if you have fewer than a hundred career homers over the course of baseball history. Aaron finds that the average pitcher to hoberman ratio is point eight two but if you have say seven hundred plus home runs and it's a small group than the average ratio is point five one however aaron rights. While doing this research i also found it fund that the player with the most home runs without touching up the same pitcher twice is roberto perez with forty six metre sheet database doesn't include twenty twenty one games and roberto has homered six times this year. Aaron didn't check to see if he has a duplicate so far. If so keith. Lockhart will own that distinction with forty four. He shared that number with tucker barnhart heading into the twenty twenty one season but he has not checked tucker barnhart seven homers this year. Aaron says he also wondered who has taken the most pitchers deep and as you would expect. It is usual suspects. Barry bonds four hundred forty nine albert pujols four hundred. Twenty eight and alex rodriguez four hundred twenty two anti-pc showed his work in linked to it. As i will. However i had a follow up for erin i said there must be an era effect right because miguel cabrera's ratio is high. Forty five hundred homer guy. He has homers against a comparatively large number of pitchers because they're so many pitchers used per game. Think and so. Many pitchers used per season these days. And they're just more teams and everything. I mean if you were playing in an era where there were like sixteen teams. And all of the starters were pitching complete games all the time right. Then you expect that your ratio would be different from today where there thirty teams and you're facing multiple pitchers per game. So i asked him if he could check how the career ratios vary by career. Start date and he has looked into that and i will link to what he found there. Basically when you adjust for the era effect. Miguel cabrera's pitcher to run ratio is pretty normal especially if you look at the number of home runs he has hit so if you just for both how many homers he is hit and when he is hit them he is actually not that unusual. I mentioned that his ratio is point. Six nine well. The average ratio for players who debuted in the pd era and have three hundred or more homers is point seven so he has right there and for players who debuted post pd era and have three hundred plus homers. The average is point seven four so again it pretty much tracks. He has pretty much average. It was hard to tell at the time but yeah it sort of fits and he has a breakdown by when they debuted. So if you debuted say in the live ball era as he calls it. Nineteen twenty to nineteen forty one than the average ratio was like point six. That's for all players league wide expansion era nineteen sixty one to seventy six. It was point six one free agency era seventy seven to ninety three. It climbs two point seven five. Pd era which he's defending is ninety. Four to two thousand five than its point. Eight one and now post. Pd era two thousand six to present. The average ratio is point eight six. So it's a lot different from how it used to be but cabrera Kind of what you would expect if you do all of that. Research that aired did presented to us so thanks to him for that. Thanks to him and surrey mega. You're not special at all just some just some games with five hundred home. Yup so that was sort of step last but it was not actually the stat blessed. But thank you for that anyway. Erin so just the less thing before we get to some e mails. We talked about how the as had fallen behind the mariners in the al west and wild card races. You know who the as could use is frank sh- mundell i think if the as had frank swindell. Lp player of the week in new jersey native they probably would not be behind the mariners. Now and the as very recently did have freshmen. Tell but like everyone else said the world they did. That suspect that frank wendell was about to be one of the very best hitters in baseball over the past month or more so for those who have not followed the frank the pinks when del story he has powered the cubs to seven straight. Wins as we speak and he is done so in sort of historic fashion so according to espn stats and info. He is the first. Mlb player with a go ahead. Rbi in the sixth inning or later of four straight games over the past forty years so that sounds impressive. But if that's too many qualifiers for you then you can just look at french. Dell's stats for the cubs. Because he has now played thirty three games and had one hundred thirty three plate appearances for chicago. And he's hitting a cool three seventy four four twenty one six.

"Oh my goodness i. Oh yeah. That's that's one that we're going to talk about is just the seattle mariners Real quick if you have any times the secret base. A few months ago they posted a youtube series about the seattle mariners in. It's fantastic. And i really recommend you guys all going out and washing it because it is just so much amazing baseball information that i like some of which i really hadn't even heard before which is hard honestly hard for me to find out but up next the marlins and that's miguel cabrera in two thousand and three and the future hall of famer broken a twenty year old emerged as a force in the middle of the order for the marlins during their drive to the nfl wildcard and the and the world series title. Down the stretch manager jack. Ricky and moved cabrera from hitting mostly seventh to mostly fifth cabrera responded in after struggling with a two thirty batting average august the rookie took off in september slashing. A three o. Eight average a three seventy on base percentage. A five oh five. Slugging percentage with nine doubles. Three home runs and twenty. Rbi in the month cabrera found himself hitting cleanup in the world series. That year as well which the marlins would actually end up winning. The mets goes to yana. Cesspit is a twenty fifteen and we have. We've got some we. We still got a lot of teams left to go. And so what we'll do is i'm gonna finish this and we might go to the next guy and then we will continue this segment after We will continue the segment following a short break. Here coming up in just a second but you. An assessment is in twenty fifteen few trades in franchise. History altered the mess trajectory more than this one in july twenty fifteen over his final forty seven games of the season. Uss hit seventeen home runs. He had eight ten fourteen opie s including ten home runs in his first thirteen. September games with just two games above five hundred when they acquired cesspit as the mets went thirty seven and twenty two with him on the roster made the world series and then re signed him and we have a little bit more time so we'll talk about the nationals real quick the nationals had adam the roach in twenty twelve and roach slashed a three twenty four average a three ninety on base percentage in eighth six sixty seven slugging percentage with eight doubles and ten home runs in the season's final month helping vault the nationals to their first analyst tidal since moving from montreal to washington and the second postseason appearance in franchise history aside from the nineteen. Eighty one expos. Now it had it not been for the strike shortened season in the nineties the Expos probably would have made the playoffs again that year. But we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about who played in september in for the nationals. In two thousand twelve it was adam roach and overall he finished six. Nl mvp voting that season hitting two seventy one with eight three forty three on base percentage a five ten slugging percentage with thirty three home runs including eighteen of those coming in the second half. Now we're gonna take a very short break here And then afterwards we will continue with the talking of these amazing september baseball players. It's one took a little bit longer than i was really anticipating but the good news is that the stats. Don't really take that much time in all honesty so we will take a short break now and i'll be right back with the remainder of these top athletes in september. And then if we have time at the end of that segment we'll talk about some status updates but we'll be right back. Tired.

"I want to ask you about that because you got to five hundred and it was a great moment for him. Do you think gee you think. What's he got forty five to go for three thousand. Do you think he can get to three thousand doubt. It doubt it. Why didn't they bring a back. Well he's got two more years on his contract coming back. Yeah he signed through twenty two and twenty three at thirty eight million dollars a year. I don't think he's going anywhere. But to take a moment's appreciation for miguel cabrera and for what he did both baseball wise and career wise so baseball wise. Talk to jimmy leland about him yesterday for some time and leland obviously don't manage him when he was when he was still hitting thirty plus home runs every year and he says that he is the best right handed hitter that he's ever seen and that so much of what he did was to opposite field which the other twenty-seven guys on the list. That's not necessarily the case. The fact that he could hit for average you know he's got a three eleven career. Average i i think that's v of all the guys who have five hundred home runs and the and the fact that leela went on about this and i thought this was one of the triple crown. He said that these he remembered. Call your strengths. Keep doing it in the late sixties. But he couldn't really remember the games. Just remember the fact that he did. But it's just not something that happens anymore you know because everybody's so specialized and what they do and and to be able to hit like that and to be able to. Have you know go to three thousand hits as well as five hundred home runs possibly in the same part of his career and add to the fact that he really hasn't played particularly well in the last three or four years. He's been injured so much of that time if he had been healthy. And maybe with a better team where they have to pitch around him all the time. He could have way than this because he hasn't hit thirty home. Runs or whatever i think since two thousand sixteen he had like four hundred. Four hundred fourteen home runs or last time. It was megi mitch. You're absolutely right. Thirty eight one three sixteen. Yeah and they still managing the club it out and the other thing i'll say about him is in this day and age where you can just fourche away out of any team no matter what your contracts and i know. He's got a prohibitive contract. But aaron rodgers has a pretty big contract and he almost got himself out at green bay and and james harden and all the other guys around the league. Who just don't want to be with the team that they're on wanna be with a winner and all the rest of miguel. Cabrera has never uttered a sentence like that. Now maybe it would have been futile with with a with a contract like he had but he still could talked about it. He's still could've said you know i. I need to go somewhere. The writing was on the wall several years ago. This is the tigers. We're in for a long long long rebuild and not only did he never asked to get out of town. He's apparently an excellent teammate. Who spent tons of time with young players when he could just be saying. You know i'm going to the hall of fame and the rest of you guys are. I don't even know your name. He he's like a kid he's still plays around still steals guys batting gloves out of their pocket when they're on first base and whenever sometimes to the frustration of managers who wanted to focus a little bit more and you got to hand it to a guy who is playing for a constant rebuilding team and has done the things he's done so that's all there i hope it gets. I'd love to seemed to three thousand. I don't think he's going go and by way before we get to parting shots and i'm sure you saw this story. It's a little personal for bob. I because it's a boston college kid and he was. He was friends with both of all my sons but particularly to my son who went to school with jimmy hayes Former nhl player found dead yesterday at the age of thirty one. Nobody has any idea yet. What caused him. There have been instagram pictures of him and his son's birthday party the day before they just had a baby in may bob. It's an awful story and the tributes pouring in new york as well Stunning you know thirty one. I mean what can you say. The no they said no foul play suspected. But you know there wasn't any evidence or public knowledge of any illness It's strange it's sad and you say we've got three month old on the top of homa. It's yeah and and and again he was. He was really great player at at boston. College and you know a had been hosting a podcast with a couple of his buddies and and as somebody described him in a story. I think map porter. It might have been a double by landau. Puerto was one of the writers of the story he mitch. They described him as one of those guys. Who had you laughing before he got to. The punchline nickname with the new york was broadway and everybody was guys walked in the room and the place lit up terrible. All right time for parting shots in this week's parting shots are brought to you by geico. "This is the Home Depot. How do is get more done about Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera, Moreland's legend, as well became the 28th player in MLB history to hit 500 bombs his opposite field blast off Steven Matz in Toronto, propelled the 38 year old into an exclusive club and mats was the 345th pitcher. Mickey is tagged deep. The solo shot tied it up at one eventual 53 Tigers win over the Blue Jays in 11. Pretty great stuff pretty historic. I know the 500 home run benchmarks been watered down a little bit because of the steroid era. You don't really necessarily know what's what. But Miguel Cabrera to me. I mean, I I choose to believe that all of his accomplishments are authentic. I mean, until there's ever ever evidence to the contrary, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. And one of the purest hitters certainly from the right hand part of home plate foul line to foul line as a young moral and you could tell in the old three World Series of young never really had a true position can never really run. But man even as a 19 year old kid taking that fastball on the outer black and rifling it kind of like Mike Piazza did to the right center gap into the seeds down the line, pulling the inside pitch great hitter. Congrats on 500 home runs. He's a great player. Definitely hauled of Famer. No doubt. All right. It's time week to our two days up next. The Chiefs. "To miguel cabrera tigers. Slugger the twenty eighth player in baseball history to hit five hundred home runs. Closing in on three thousand is well. Five hundred home runs doesn't mean what it used to three thousand still does five hundred was once a number that elite sluggers reached and that was your automatic ticket to the hall of fame. You got to five hundred home runs. Didn't matter what else you did in your career you've got to five hundred home. Runs your hall of famer. There's some all time greats. The didn't get there lou. Gehrig didn't get there joe. Dimaggio wasn't even close. The list has grown in recent years and will continue because of the emphasis on home runs the steroid era sort of marred. The hey welcome to the five hundred club. Five hundred club. But did you have help along the way the long ball more common than ever but cabrera not just a home run hitter he's One hundred hits shy little less than one hundred hits shy of three thousand. He won a triple crown. Won a couple of mvp's we don't go nuts over five hundred home runs but we will celebrate miguel cabrera when he goes into the hall of fame here in a few years and i'm wondering who's next with five hundred home runs. I guess giancarlo stanton would be one of those guys. He's thirty one. He's got three hundred and thirty. Two career home runs. I'm not the biggest giancarlo stanton fan mike trout. He's thirty. he has three hundred and ten home runs in his career but injuries have slowed his pace abid in two thousand seventeen thousand eighteen twenty nineteen but this year has really set him back. He hit one hundred. Eighty seven home runs in the five years leading up to last year's pandemic shortened season. Let's see freddy freeman would be a guy to keep an eye on these thirty one hundred sixty seven career home runs bryce harper. He's been playing for ten years. He's twenty eight years of age. He's got two hundred and fifty. Five home runs manny machado. He's actually a few months older than harper. He's twenty nine and he's got two hundred..

Tele friend sheriff's with one of your buddies out there. Click that share button. Send this video or this podcast out. No video here yet. But send the podcast out to one of your buddies say. Hey check this out. Kevin's playing word association. What word would you put to your favorite ball ballclub out there worth where they currently stand here as. We're almost through the month of august. So twenty twenty one coming around the home stretch right the final turn for you horse fans out there so it's going to be a lot of fun here with both wildcard races heating up and a few teams getting hot out there. So we'll do this across the standings here as well starting out in the american league here for segment number three looking at the american league east and going from the basement up right the baltimore orioles like we talked about losers of eighteen straight games. My goodness gracious what What can you say if you're a baltimore fan out there. They've lost eighteen in a row. They'll now face the angels at home here as again. They're trying to catch those toward one. Thousand nine hundred sixty one philadelphia phillies for the record twenty three consecutive single season losses. But the word. I'm putting for the orioles is it's a waiting game. So it's a word or a phrase right. It's going to be a couple of words for those of you already saying. hey man. that's more than one word. It's going to be a short phrase. Alright so it's a waiting game right. The orioles are poised for their third one hundred loss season in the last four years. They've shown very little indication that they're ready to turn the corner and starts really contending. But adly rush mond and grayson rodriguez or finally knocking on the door of the big league level two of the top prospects within the organization in cedric mullins. Really looks like an emerging star. So he's really the only guy currently at the big league level that you could put a lynch pin in and say hey it looks like rebuilding maybe coming to an end. We got cedric molins. And all star out there in centerfield next on the list and fourth place. You have the toronto blue jay sixty four and fifty eight three and seven in their last ten games so it's been a tough stretch including losing four out of their last five. They lost two out of three to tigers over the weekend and things don't get any easier when the white sox come to town so for the blue jays. I have close but no cigar again. They've improved this year. Things are looking better there in toronto and the the expanded postseason in twenty twenty. Got them into the playoffs with a thirty two. And twenty eight record after three previous straight losing seasons in their remaining relevant once again a handful of games out in the wild garp headlined by vlad guerrero junior boba shit and upstart pitching staff bargain signing of robbie ray but they still may be a year away from true contention so i would say close but no cigar to all of those blue jay fans out there hoping to make the playoffs this year in third place now is the boston. Red sox seven games out of first place. They are five and five in their last ten. So they've kind of righted. The ship a sweep against the yankees are being swept by the yankees. Really drop them down in the standings and man my sane for them is danger will robinson because things have now. Look good there in boston. They had a half game lead in the american league east. On july thirtieth. This was the same day where the front office traded for kyle schwarzer and a pair of middle relievers but that has quickly evaporated to seven games and they are trending in the wrong direction. So danger will robinson for all you red sox fans next in second place you have the new york yankees man talk about hot ballclub right now new york nine and one in their last ten winners of nine straight to get to seventy two and fifty two on the season swept red sox followed that up by sweeping the twins with their fourth game on sunday being postponed due to the hurricane here in the northeast and now they travel to atlanta to face off against the braves one of the hottest teams in the national league so yankees brave certainly one of the best match ups here early on in the week but for the yankees i have the quote it is alive right to quote franken stein. He is back are rejuvenated. Reinvigorated whichever synonym you wanna use. But they are alive and my goodness gracious since adding joey gallo. Anthony rizzo starter andrew. Heaney i mean this team has certainly turned around. And they got the best record in the american league here in august and our right firmly in that playoff talk now but still in first place the tampa bay race seven and three in their last ten so as hot as new. York's ben only able to game two games. In the american league east in the raise at seventy seven and forty eight now have a short series against the phillies here. Another team that scuffling early on here in august and continuing through august but for tampa bay. It's unconventional greatness further race. I mean charlie. Morton moves on blake. Snell moves on tyler glass now now on the injured list so ryan. Yarborough is the only pitcher on the staff is thrown more than one hundred innings. The team starters ranked twenty eighth in the majors in innings pitched so it's very unique. Approach down there in tampa bay to building a staff but once again top. Ten in the majors team. Era it's all coming together and it's working for the tampa bay race transitioning announced the american league central in the basement and the central. You have the minnesota twins losers of three straight fifty. Four and seventy overall as they were swept by the yankees. They'll now face off against the red sox as life doesn't get any easier for minnesota. And i have them at a crossroads bone thugs and harmony. Reach.

"Took dry swings on friday for the first time since august eighth when he suffered the injury. Mike trout of the angels. He's been ramping up baseball activities. He's nearing a minor league baseball rehab assignment but the date for that assignment has not yet been determined. He spoke over the weekend about his calf injury. Calling at one of the hardest things he's been through in his career and Yeah it's kept him out much longer than i think. Angels in just general baseball fans had anticipated for the giants evan longoria. He's dealing with some swelling in his right hand after being hit by a pitch last week. He's been officially placed on the injured list as of sunday with vaccine side effects. So there's no minimums dave for players who are placed on the cove injured list. So link goria could return in time for the series against the mets this coming tuesday anthony de scallop fani right acl inflammation played catch over the weekend on sunday. He plans to test his ankle. But it didn't show enough improvement to proceed with scheduled bullpen sessions so the giants placed him on the injured list. Here as well for you. Athletic fans chris bassett. He said to go undergo surgery on tuesday again. We talked about him getting hit in the face with the line drive on our last episode. So he's going to have surgery on tuesday to secure displaced bones from his face after being hit in the face man. Goodness man. Best of luck to chris bassett. That's gotta be painful. Also stephen piscotty he had given Piscotty let's see here to quarter sewn shots already this year and it looks like surgery is likely to take care of nagging wrist issues that the outfielder has dealt with dating back to last year. So surgery most likely to take place in the off season for stephen piscotty for the brewers escobar. Escobar accident sunday's game with right hamstring discomfort He was a trade deadline. Acquisition for milwaukee he hit to ninety one with two home runs and eight ten psi in his first twenty games with the club. They hope that he will be date. Today's here moving forward and then freddy peralta right shoulder. Inflammation played catch on sunday for the first time since going on the injured list. He is hoping that history will be the minimum of ten days and that he will be able to return very shortly for the astros. Alex bregman he returned to the field. Friday night going two for four with a grand slam across seven innings while on his minor league rehab in aaa sugarland. He's been sidelined for nearly two weeks after suffering a setback recovering from a left quad straight but bregman said after the game. He's feeling great but a timetable. To return has not yet been established. But houston's offense eating up and they're going to get another big piece with bregman here in the near future. Jose you're kuwaiti right shoulder discomfort. He's on scheduled to return to the rotation. When the rosters expand september first houston could could go with six man rotation for the final month of the regular season once he returns yes monte grande all the white sox tony larussa said. He doesn't expect granddaughter return during their current road trip. Buddy isn't aaa for rehab assignments and it looks like he's going to be back here in the next couple of weeks and then lastly eddie rosario for the braves rosario dealing with a strained abdominal muscle. He's playing almost every day on his rehab assignment at aaa gwen it. So it looks like he could be back in the show here and just a couple of days. So let's wrap up segment number two with some surprising league leaders usually look at stats and standings here on mondays episodes. Well i wanted to condense this a little bit since. I'm going to take up the last two episodes talking about the standings as well as each team in general here so major league baseball most surprising league leaders when it comes to pitching you gotta go with the winds kyle. Kendricks has fourteen wins for a team. That's fifteen games under five hundred. Your league leader in wins is coming from a sub five hundred team which is pretty crazy to think about you. Also have austin adams who leads major league. Baseball in hits by pitches with sixteen so adams had trouble controlling the ball. Offensively the most pickoffs goes to ryan weathers of the padres. He's got eight pickoffs this year. He's only thrown seventy eight innings. So that's that's a lot for that little a dime there and then you also have some hitting stats here. Caught stealing in the national league jazz. Chisolm junior the marlins leads the league with seven for the national league but the surprises in the american league which shohei ohtani. He's been caught eight times this year. He does have eighteen steals but otani eight times is also very high when it comes to getting hit by a pitch. Jonathan indie of the reds leads the national league with eighteen this season and in the american league you have mark cannot of the oakland a.'s with twenty two. So he's at the top of the list and then your leader in sacrifice bunches adam wainwright of the cardinals with twelve. So the pitcher is usually lead that that category but wainwright at the top of the list as he's been impressive with twelve so one other thing to talk about the baltimore. Orioles lost their eighteenth consecutive game on sunday. Now is that the longest single season losing streak of the past sixty years. Actually there's a few teams ahead of them now. They're creeping up here on the list because it's eighteen and county but ahead of them. You have the two thousand five. Kansas city royals who lost nine thousand nine straight games. The nineteen seventy-five tigers also lost one thousand nine in a row that season. The one thousand nine hundred sixty nine montreal expos had twenty losses. Consecutively the nineteen eighty. Eight baltimore orioles. So that's not even a franchise record for baltimore as the eighty-eight orioles lost twenty one consecutive times. But you're all time leader. The nine thousand nine hundred sixty one philadelphia phillies with twenty three straight losses. That season so baltimore would have to get swept to additional times in order to have that record of twenty three consecutive losses. So matt just a tough three weeks there in baltimore orioles fans what are listening. I appreciate you guys hanging in there. Because i know i'd be on the football season and talking about the baltimore ravens if i were you guys so that does it for segment number two here of the gsm see baseball. Podcast brought to you. By the gsm gmc podcast network. We'll step aside here for word.

Peace with bush and with live it was no one else. There were other tours years past but in two thousand nineteen. That's who it was bush. Guess you lie. Bush love bush boise fanta bush hydrogen. Not i agree. And he was solo two for one album. Yeah no one's isn't seddon gavin bush. No but he did have a couple of hits off that album bush. Like some gavin rostov solo. He's done some good stuff. This he is. The boy agreed which is why he could put out song and still sell them. Bush corn well done eddie right half past seven on cruises here to give you all the details of the weekend all right. Let's start it up here for you by jack. Pocket fish state lottery games on your phone by returns to the lineup. They put forth one of their best showing since he went on the i l. And he was right in the middle of it. He likes what tort left-field backhoes working. Jd davis with a line. Drive to run home. Hostels a j deal the very next pitch to shot his run of the year. Five to to guarantee the clapping their pitch finally any and he's right about that. It's and i know this is a repeated storyline and get it and maybe it'll change next year. I still can't believe they're calling games from city field. And then you've got ron darling. I think he was in tampa on the tbs broadcast. You got gary and zeal in a booth at city field. I'm pretty sure. Ron was in tampa and the raise white sox game. Meanwhile dan dickerson on tigers. Radio is in toronto yesterday. Calling the miguel cabrera home runs. Crazy really is here. Part of a four day davis baya's double twice. He's a couple of runs. Drove one in. Metz added a couple more than ninth finished off. The dodgers seven to two avoiding owen seven mark against la the season. Here's baya's did what. I could help these guys the last couple of weeks i was my my energy and and when my happiness to team didn't work out so well but he's back now in francisco endure not far behind. We'll hear from him in a minute. Lewis row haas hoping the bias factory trickle down that these back on the actual field him feel them you so decide second base dollars just hustle baseball. Listen to some of the good things that i think you can transmit to the other players. Marcus stroman six innings to run ball six ks improves to nine and twelve. He's been outstanding. He's learn the team in wins. I think right and got leanings starred and he's able to go out there and you will sticks. They show huge for. They showed the one stat. Where he i think. He's unbeaten when the mets score three runs or more for him. Oh yeah i told you. Got nineteen starts at two runs to earn runs or less which is tied for second in baseball. Nine wins leading the mets games on there. I like the orioles. But they've been a good team for a while now. No i understand mets back home now. Three more with the giants beginning tomorrow. Night tyler mcgill. We'll start the opener against san francisco. Mets are seven back at the braves of one. Nine straight helps when you face the orioles and they did sweep baltimore over the weekend owes of now lost eighteen consecutive games back to endure. Now he spoke before saturday's game offered his take on these steve cohen tweet from this past week. Nothing they didn't already know we've been getting that messes though year. We we haven't really hit all year long. I haven't performed now. How how in bottom. Line a haven't done what i'm here to do. When it comes to. The opposite side agree with them. Because i know where you're going to play next and he's he's right about this defense they can't talk to me. You know The base running. They can't talk to him either. Offensively criticize me. Say whatever you want. Because you're right they all right. Let's be fair. The defense and the base running is now but they pay him for. Isn't it because he plays one of the most position important positions on the field. And it's like he's been he's terrible. Well i listen to defense and the base. Running is a factor. I mean if he were few hitter he wouldn't have gotten the contract that he did. But that's the point of people want to focus on especially when the team is struggling overall and the offense has struggled as much as does uh so we'll see what he can do. Once he comes back which is going to be sometime this week. Yankees and twins postponed yesterday due to anri. They'll make it up on september. Thirteenth yanks are rolling nine. Straight wins even overcoming. Three run homers. That don't count these days and the swung and hit the air to write deep right center gordon at the track at a wall. He's gone but i don't think it's going to count on account boy is that on. There was all over it and you guys discuss last segment. Oh door with the late. Call time out granted by angel hernandez of course. So what is going on here. Pitcher went into his emotional door. Hit it out anyway. It did not count and then on the very next pitch once again. It'll be an oath to adore and the pitches streiter by a angel hernandez as a habit of getting into it would be posted. A bad call here. It is top look above the strike zone. That's how far out of the zone that pitch was the red dot at the top above his own. That was the strike. Three call correct worse called the game according to umpire scorecard swallow there. You go yanks did beat the twins though seven onto one who follows that umpire. Hide your card. This is the new love this. They give a report on every the next day. I sent you one last week when you were asking about. Somebody's true. obviously you didn't see it just tweeted it out you. Yeah yes twitter thing you were talking about the the all eighty really good. Follow empire knocking you. That sounds awesome. Yeah i think they use the stat cast or whatever to go these. I'm a loser. I haven't was following that on his vacation. In north carolina. Funded vacation with the mets. Losing almost every game real but he only i only saw up. I didn't check over the weekend but last week leading into the weekend. He had only tweeted twice while he was away. And let's see here. Why saw the one where seeking like a can stone and then the next one was seasons. These are there any president's boyhood homes there is that why he no fam family. I think you think that his wife was looked in the mirror and said what the hell do probably when he was in one when he was dunkin on that six foot and look like a door and his driveway. Yankees did win saturday. Seven to one garrett cole. Six shutout innings andrew velasquez homered for the first time in a yankee uniform friday night. They pounded many ten to to another huge game for luke void. Coordinate cortez went seven for the wind. Big week ahead to with the red hot braves down in atlanta and the big four-game step at the as i welcome all. Yeah why not sure. Make it fifteen in a row you got jordan. Montgomery andrew heaney pitching against the braves tampa over the weekend. No idea the exact results. I can tell you. The yankees are four back. So it's been done the game so maybe they lost two out of three. They might check on that. Why tell him on. Montgomery's opposed by oskar it tonight pre game coverage on the fan at six forty four back of the race in the loss column and they are three clear of the as and the red sox in the loss column atop the wildcard.

"And tim. Usa coast kevin goldstein. Hello kevin alot. Start at the start and you guys. Were doing your woking which i want to ask you about you were calling a bunch of the picks before they happen but you were flummoxed as was almost everyone by the number one pick in the draft. What were the pirates going to do. Who were they going to take. Everyone was wondering maybe the pirates were wondering and ultimately they took college catcher. Henry davis out of louisville. So tell us a little bit about what you have gleaned about how that pick happened. What was the decision process. Why did it come down to the wire. And why did they go with davis. Who's answering mir eric mission. I dunno lead prospect analyst. Does that mean you're entitled every timer. I think setting the stage. For where kevin and i were as all of this was transpiring like i was the futures game. I left the futures game in the fifth inning of the future game and then hit like a place they get takeout between the futures game and the hotel where i was going to hold up for the draft and this whole time kevin and i are talking to one another and trying to ascertain. Who's gonna go first so that we can quickly update a mock draft and throw it out there and pittsburgh played thing so close to the chest that like nobody got the first pick. Right in their mock. Yeah you're mocks derailed right away which i guess you're probably used to but maybe not quite that quickly. You guys had to go to the red sox right. We typically do like the stuff in the mock draft that is more important is who the teams are considering. And we've all been saying for the last couple of months. Now that the more we all mock marcelo meyer i the less likely it becomes that he actually goes there. Because pittsburgh seems motivated to cut a deal and they really only began engaging and this is where cagey can speak to two more this like they really only began engaging agents in a serious way within the last twenty four hours before the draft and it wasn't known until an hour before the draft when henry davis his agent and the pirates front office like an only a couple of people in the pirates office seemingly knew who the pick was going to be. We don't know how far under slot hundred davis is going to be. But i'm going to guess that it's it's a pretty serious haircut because of what pittsburgh did with the rest of their draft which was. Take a bunch of overslept highschoolers. It was weird. It was definitely weird. We were talking to teams picking below pittsburgh and and all said like we don't know at pittsburgh's doing and you know even got in touch with some of the agents for players. Pittsburgh was considering what this pack and they were saying. We haven't heard from him yet. So it's definitely took it to the last minutes. I think before before they ended up coming to do a handshake agreement with davis. And then like eric said. I think it's real tough to judge anyone day one by itself because you wonder what they're gonna do with the rest of the money and pittsburgh i kind of slam dunk this thing. If you talk about you know three guys who were seen as general first round talents after the davis picked that they can now pay the money. They saved on davis. Yes so can you tell us a little bit about davis because the one one. That's an honor. That's a badge of distinction but it doesn't always mean that you are the most talented or seen as the most talented player in the draft. But obviously he's good. He was gonna go somewhere early. So what did the pirates get in davis. He has that paul bunyan kind of body and power. I seen this guy put balls out. Debt centerfield like on a line ball in play. That was no more than fifteen feet off the ground. it is gargantuan power and real field hit to. this isn't just a power goof. It's not like a sexy smooth. Miguel cabrera type of death. Back control swing with the guy gets the barrel there and he has good plate coverage. And there's just so much strength that the likelihood that he hits and hits repower is is very high. He's got a plus plus arm. He is not a good defensive catcher. Otherwise will automatic. Strike zones aid his ability to stay back. There probably are. They're still issues even though that's the case yes if he's a first base d. h. type guy or if the pirates think he's athletic enough what's pat burrow him and they laughed. Like i see he still is gonna profile as a middle of the order anchor. A guy who's hitting cleanup on a competitive team just because hit power. Combination is is that good and he performed for his entire career in a huge conference so the degree of confidence in the stuff. I just said is fairly high now. It's not to say that guys who hit at louisville haven't busted before corey ray is a recent prominent example who was number one on my personal draft board like some five or six years ago. You just didn't pan out. He can actually can't hit. I think those issues are swing related. That's another story but yeah like this guy's a huge masher who has a chance to play a premium position and if not he still has the the offensive talents of profile so no one knew until right before what was going to go on. Davis comes off the board cagey. Maybe we can start with you on the swan. When there's that much uncertainty at the top for the teams that are picking immediately after pittsburgh..
