"But I watched him play in LA on Thursday. And look, I've been hard on Christian wood in the past. I thought his Houston run was terrible, I think, you know, his defense has oftentimes been indifferent. Let's call it, to be charitable about that. But he just works in Dallas, like playing off of Luka Dončić, works for him. He's at least trying, I think, more defensively in Dallas. I mean, you saw, he had 5 blocks in that double overtime game against the Lakers, including one which I guess should have been a foul on LeBron at the end of that game, but you know, I bring wood up because he's eligible for contract extension now and there's been talk of the Mavericks trading him if they don't get a contract extension with him done so they don't risk losing him for nothing. At the end of the year, I know Christian wood wants to get paid. I would too. This is your opportunity. But he's got a good thing out there, man. He has got a situation where he is playing off arguably the best player in the NBA, a guy that draws defenses or defenders like a magnet and puts him in a position for wide open threes, which is what Christian wood does or lobs, which is what Christian wood does. So if I'm Christian wood, I'm not saying take a low ball offer here, but if your desire is to go into free agency and sign a four year max level deal with like Charlotte, I hope the money's worth it. Like the money, maybe it will be. Maybe you need that maybe you want that extra cash, but if there's a pathway to getting a deal done with the Dallas Mavericks, Christian wood needs to do it. Because he works there and he didn't work in Detroit and I'm not sure he's going to work anywhere else. It's just my two cents on it. Yeah, and that's the thing, right? Like he could get a big payday by some team that really badly needs an offensive minded big man who can do some things or whatever, a Charlotte or whoever. And, you know, it might be where he makes the most money, but it will probably be a place where he never gets to win at this level again. And that's a tough thing. It's not a lot about this over the years of covering this league and moderating my own position quite a bit. I used to really on some level it would bother my sensibilities if a guy went for the money instead of winning and I've changed on that. It's obviously one, it's not our lives to lead. Our choice to make. So there's that. But you know, yeah, winning is really important and we project this as media and fans we project this on to these guys. Well, they should all want to win at the highest level, even if it means sacrificing shots or sacrificing some dollars. Easy for us to say. I would not blame Christian wood if he went for the bag somewhere else if it were a bigger bag. But yeah, ideally for his career, you know, you said it. There's no better situation for him. And if he can continue to evolve defensively, try to be more accountable at that end of the court. He certainly has the athleticism and the ability to be a better defender. And playing off of Luca, and the Mavericks, perpetually one player away. You know, they get that one other guy whoever it may be and they're in business. So they don't even need they don't need not to make this a maverick's discussion, but they don't need a second superstar.

"It's meant to me is between Malcolm Brogdon and Benedict matheran. And it's good points on the record of teams that have had the 6th man of the year. The pacers might not end up with a record that's much better than 500, but I think because the expectation for Indiana were so low and because math has been so impactful in their getting to this point, if you look at the reasons why they're there, it's of course tyrese Halliburton. It's buddy heel making shots. It's miles Turner, largely staying healthy, but Matthew and has done some unbelievable things for that team this year. So that, to me, it's a coin flip right now with Malcolm Brogdon and Mather and Brockton, the case is pretty obvious. He comes off the bench. She's steady. He's reliable. He's making shots. He's been able to stay healthy ish this year, but math has a chance in my mind if he continues to be one of the driving forces behind this Indiana surge, he's got a chance to be one of those kind of middle of the pack teams that has the 6th man of the year. He's got a chance and he especially has a chance because brogden has an injury history, which if brogden, you know, gets hurt a couple more times or misses a lot of games. That could sink him a little bit and math who I don't think is missed a game yet. Could rise based on that. If you look at the 6th man of the year candidates based on scoring like math, 17 points a game over broadened at 14 points a game, but maths also taking two more almost actually three more shots per game, broadened, brought in shooting 45% from three. Which blows everybody else in this discussion out of the water. So, you know, brogden, lower usage rate, higher efficiency, that helps his case, his playmaking, you know, he's averaging almost four assists a game and four rebounds a game. Maths at 1.4 assists.

"We talk about every week and most of the time it's justified, but here we are at this point. Several things wrong with that. Number one, like, where's darvin ham in that situation? Like, you have a timeout left, like Russell Westbrook gets to stop. He's dribbling the ball up, and once you see that look in Russell Westbrook's eye, where he sees red. He sees Joel embiid standing in front of him and he says, I'm gonna go get him. Why darvin ham? Are you not running towards the referee and calling time out? You still would have given yourself ten seconds. You could have run a play. LeBron was 15 for 23 in that game. One of his best games of the season. That's the guy you've got to get a touch. You've got to get the ball in LeBron's hands. I do have a slight issue with LeBron too because if you watch that play develop, like LeBron kind of coasts up the floor and doesn't go get the ball. Like if I'm LeBron, I am stomping my feet clapping saying give me the ball. I know, look, not that he needed to take the shot, but the ball needed to touch his hand. Howard, on the same night, we saw the nuggets go out of their way to get Nikola Jokić the ball at the end of that game. And jokic, that wasn't a high percentage shot. Like that was a great shot, but it wasn't a high percentage shot. It was a step back three pointer from a 7 footer that was not, I don't care who you are. That was not a high percentage shot. But they made sure he got the ball. In those situations, LeBron James needs to touch the basketball. I just was flabbergasted by that entire sequence at the end of that game. And look, I understand DARPin Hamm has to support his guy. He has been staunchly in Westbrook's corner from day one, and that's really the only way you can keep him engaged with this team, but the idea that he would take that, what did he say? You know, 6 times a week and twice on Sunday, whatever he said. No, no, no. The ball needed to go in LeBron's hand. A timeout should have been called. They should have run a play and they would have had a chance to win a game that they may need in April come playoff time. That was an NBA TV game, so when the game ended at least on my TV, it went to the NBA TV studio and they had Terry stotts and Sam Mitchell there, both of course, you know, have coached a lot of years in the NBA. And they were dancing around a little bit, like Sam Mitchell initially went all in on the idea. Like, you got a call timeout and it was funny because he kind of went through this thing about how casta is still new to the NBA TV thing. And I don't know how many times he's been on this season or I haven't seen all of it or what he said, but he actually kind of said, initially it was kind of agree with Mitchell about that Darwin's got a call timeout, but then he was like, you know, we've got in trouble a couple of times for the things which were second guessing, so I don't really want to go there. Like he was trying to be very careful with respectful of darvin ham and they even went to the extent of saying, you know, this is one of

"If anyone's looked it up, but has anyone ever won coach of the year as essentially not the interim because they gave Jacques a contract. So he's not interim. But as the in season replacement and become coach of the year, it's been an impressive turnaround. It's due to a lot of things. We've talked about this, not to diminish anything as Jacques van has done. I think he's been the right voice in the right leader at the right time. But they got healthy. Ben Simmons started to get his game together, not so much recently. Let's see how they do with Durant out for two, three, four weeks, whatever it's going to be. That's going to impact how we view this. And right now, by the way, they're going to without Durant and kairi's been shrinking from the moment. So that's going to impact things. My next ban up on that ballot though, even possibly before Mike Brown might just be Willie green, they have seamlessly incorporated Zion back and as ions out, but bringing Zion in as a guy who had not even played with this group, right? It was almost like he was a new player to that team because they found their footing last season after the McCollum trade and the incorporated McCollum with Ingram. Then they bring in Zion. Now you got a big three, then Ingram's out. Zion's in. Like, a lot of youth on this roster. There's just a lot that Willie green has had to manage with this group. And I think he's done a fantastic job and then just to note this, the coach of the year race is always like 6, 7, 8 deep. Like there's always a bunch of good candidates depending on whether you're pulling from the top tier of teams or that middle tier where somebody's made a leap, all the guys we mentioned are going to be in this race. Missoula, as you mentioned, is in this race. I think Taylor Jenkins is in this race with the grizzlies. I think Michael Malone never gets enough credit for what the nuggets do year in year out, despite always having guys hurt, despite always having to reshuffle the deck despite a franchise star in jokic who you know is not going to be your defensive anchor. And you always have to try to patch things up around him. Like there's a lot of things that Michael Malone has to manage there that he just never gets enough credit for and probably should be on some balance as well. All right, so you would go Jacques Vaughn number one and just ahead of Willie green and Mike Brown, I think if we're doing the typical three man ballot. Okay. Yeah, yeah, look at that, that's a perfectly reasonable one thing. Jack bond's been instrumental to that team's success, settling that locker room, being kind of the respected guy in that locker room.

"Fine. But I'm not going to end the moment, try to prejudge that. It's regular season award. It is. What it is. And it's and it's that season. It's not a rolling three year basis or 5. Earned it for this season. As of right now, like he's the clear leader. I agree. All right, let's look at coach of the year, which is a little bit more competitive at the moment. Well, maybe not. I've got a pretty clear FrontRunner in my mind. I'll jump in first on this one, Howard. I like Mike Brown's Sacramento to win this. I mean, what's it going on? Almost two decades of futility in Sacramento. They are just one bad decision after another a carousel of coaches that have made their way through their since they were a good team under Rick adelman in the early 2000s. Mike Brown has come in. And as we record this, as you touched on a moment ago, they are right there in the four seed in the Western Conference. Now, that can change in a week. You see the proximity of teams that are like 8 9 and ten to teams that are three, four, and 5, but right now Mike Brown has had the best coaching season. I think Jacques Vaughn has been tremendous, you know, writing the ship in Brooklyn, Joe Missoula, has done a phenomenal job keeping that team running smoothly in the aftermath of the email you don't get situation in Boston, but I look at Sacramento and look, there's still not an elite defensive team, but the fact that they're like 25th right now in defense efficiency. And at times have been in the teens in that mid range, like that's a pretty big accomplishment. This was an utterly incompetent defensive team last year, like ridiculously bad. Last year, cartoonishly bad at times last year. They are playing a little bit of defense this season, which coupled with their great offense, which is being spearheaded by demonic sabonis, who might be an all star, dear and Fox, who might be an all star, you know, a couple of guys that are playing at an all star level that got good shooting. Kevin herder, great acquisition by Monty mcnair in that front office. Keegan Murray when he's been healthy, he has been good for that team as well. But Mike Brown's the guys brought it all together.

I don't see how you can beat that. Here they are. Chris mannix and Howard back. And we are back crossover NBA podcast, Chris mannix, Howard's Beck. Zooming back right past the mid season mark of the NBA season. Can you believe we're past that 41 game mark already? I can not. I can not, the calendar plays tricks on us every year. It's January 16th. All star break feels like it's a long ways off. It's like a month away, but we're past the mathematical midpoint, which is, I guess, really the only midpoint, there is no other midpoint. There's only the one that is math dictated. And I can't believe we're halfway done with the season. It's also weird to look up and think like some of the early season trends that didn't hold, but some of the ones that did and you're starting to see the sorting out and going, is this really where we are, we'll get into some of that obviously, but yeah, you know, maybe this is a stupid question, but why is the All-Star Game in February? Why is it not the midwife? Not at the midpoint of the season. I've wondered that. I also think it is answer NBA. Hello? I'm sure there's an answer for this. But also, doesn't it feel like it kind of like keeps creeping further back somehow? Like in another 5 years, we're going to do the all star break at like game 70 or something. It just feels like it gets later. It is like two thirds of the way through the season. Which is a weird time to have a break. Like, oh, we're two thirds of the way through the season. When we come back, it's gonna be this mad dash to the finish. It is. The timing of it is odd.

"Really the classic you love to see it situation because one, he's playing with just a random guy in Magna, right? And he does his job. He's a simple player. He's kind of the safety valve for Carlson. But there's no high end player on his on his other side. And there's something about Carlson and the way he can impact the flow of the game. I think that's kind of for me where the value really comes from is he can control the pace and he's such an elite skater. Now that he's healthy again, that he can make this rush where he's either leading it or the second man or the third man. And if the puck's turned over, he's one of the first guys back just because a couple strides later, he's up on that puck carrier. And that's what we saw when he was whatever 2017 and earlier. The type of player that he was and the way that he could exit the zone in the defensive zone enter the offensive zone with control with this sort of deft playmaking ability where, you know, kind of one of those guys with eyes in the back of his head and also has a bit of an underrated shot. And I think, you know, at the end of the day, burns not being there is certainly a factor. You go from having two quote unquote go to offensive weapons on the back end to just one. We can't ignore the impact there. So I think that's a factor, but what he's done has been on a really mediocre is actually kind way to describe the sharks, but when he's been able to do is it's quite something. It has. Yeah, and I was saying this on a show last week. You can see that he's got that dynamic kind of pop back in his step because you can see the way other teams are treating him. And maybe part of it is because there's so few other things to necessarily have to account for or worry about on that team. But when he's pushing the puck up the ice, the other team's sagging back because they are respecting his speed all of a sudden and even when he was affected the past couple years, I mean, you saved 2017. He was obviously he had one of the best playoff runs. I think we've ever seen from an individual. He was doing it in such a crafty way though. You could tell he wasn't right physically, which makes it even more impressive that he was basically playing on one leg, but he wasn't necessarily just like striking that fear of God into you with the pure skating. It was the smarts and picking you apart with his passing.

"Yeah, yeah. And so what is inexplicable is like, you know, it's not like everybody's gonna miss once in a while. It was just that the theories behind their draft made no sense. Like they were picking players at non premium positions who nobody else like with Andrew was just like really strange. But there's something about, it was something about like the late Wilson years just seemed to distort everybody as I guess they were right, like ultimately they needed to move on and it could not have worked out better. It's been, you know, and again, I don't think this is going to end up in a Super Bowl, but the fact that there are competitive at this point is shocking to me. And again, like, nothing about it seems incredibly unsustainable. It's not like it doesn't seem flukey or Gino's probably not quite as good, but I mean, I think it doesn't seem unreasonable at this point to think he's somewhere in the gym plunk at, you know, never got a fair shot and is like doing something with a class. You know, I mean, it's not like he failed as a starter multiple times. And his only chance was, again, with, you know, you can not evaluate anybody, anybody's abilities like the late Rex Ryan years. If Tom Brady came up with that team, you would never heard of him again and so, you know, I think that, you know, I think there's a reason to think that this, you know, they basically did like a rebuild in one off season. That's pretty good. No, it's actually changed my fault because I went from assuming I would never watch the Seahawks to like, now they're actually being shown in the northeast. You know, because they are all of a sudden relevant. So I'm gonna watch the last two weeks, which has been amazing. You know, and now they have, of course, they have the very early game, which is fine for me, probably less so. But I don't know what I'm gonna do about that. 6 30 in Sunday morning. I wouldn't be worth it to me, but I'll be getting up and watching them play. The back of the book, if they win that game, I mean, what more do they need to prove that they're actually good teams? We're soft peddling, and Eric and your south peddling the main issue this weekend, which is the Oregon Washington gate. Oh, look. Look, sometimes it is a battle of good versus evil. And this week, we're not talking about the election. No, no. Now the difference between the ducks and huskies is far grander than that between democracy and fascism. You know, so no, I mean like a husky win.

"The Buccaneers, they still have a good defense and I do not expect them to be in the Super Bowl, but, you know, you get them in any one game and the defense keeps it closed. You can still, I mean, that drive ready put on last place. It's like 70 yards in what, 45 seconds was no timeouts. Especially that first throw, he made to that backup tight end behind the, you know, he can, you know, so again, I do as I know, I do not expect the Buccaneers to be, you know, to be in the conference final, but it's not like I don't think you can look at them on a playoff schedule and say, we're rolling over them. Hey, Tom, Tom sacrificed his marriage for the season. This is a side note, I guess, but if there's anything that's the inability of an NFL player to break away from playing before they absolutely have to. It's Tom Brady sacrificing his marriage to a supermodel to play for this fucking team. It's not a good team. You know, like he came back for this. He sacrificed his marriage for that? You know, it's the inability to walk away. And I guess I can't understand it in that same way because obviously despite my amazing physique and overwhelming athletic skills, that never played in the NFL. I surprises a lot of people. Not yet. I could become, I mean, it could become the oldest NFL work evolved. But in all fairness, a specular is also a cause and effect thing there or I don't know that it's so much that the going back to football ruin the marriage is that he went back to football because the marriage was already failing. And of course. But I also, but that's being a 21st century America. Want to randomly speculate about celebrity marriages. So that's what we do now, right? So that's what I'm doing. Yeah, so we're going to have a podcast about the red scare lady dating Louis C.K.. I'm not sure. This is the first I've heard of it. I would prefer not to know anything about that. At least hopefully she gets written off Succession at least. One last thing to mention is the Indianapolis Colts hiring Jeff Saturday. Yeah, what the hell was up with that, right? I mean, that's like them hiring, hiring me, right? I mean, not quite, but the only thing is a likeable guy, but Jesus Christ. He's never coached above high school. Look at there's not a single coach on the Indianapolis staff who has ever called plays for an NCAA or NFL team. Like literally not sick. It's just fucking ridiculous. Yeah, I mean, yeah, man. It's kind of, yeah, it's a little bit weird. Why don't you hire Matt Ryan as your player coach? Yeah. I mean, you're paying him anyway. You're like, Jeff Saturday is perfectly fine as a occasional guest on first take. Well liked, you know, it's not like he could even be a good coach if he trained for it.

"I think the record is more misleading than the jazz. That's still a pretty, yeah. There's 6 and two and there are plus mine is points is plus 6. You know, whereas the cowboys are two and they're plus 50. And Devi away the jets are going to the Giants with 21st, but having said that, if you had told me the Giants would be 21st, that's a huge accomplishment. Like, given their lost, like that's still gonna love them. Nothing. Look, I'm giving the NFC. You know, even if they fade, I mean, you know, a ten at 7 finish seems entirely reasonable for them, which is an incredible accomplishment. Given how bad they were in, I guess, at that point you probably have to think about re signing Daniel Jones, which is a whole other set of questions. I'm glad that, I mean, I don't know, like, what Geno clearly you're going to resign and because he's actually been good, the annual Jones, it's like, well, he's been all right. You know, how much money you really want to put into this guy. Especially in a market where the lions are probably going to be interested in signing somebody like that. I think it's going to depend on like they're a smart organization now, like the kind of bills are like, I think it's going to come down to what he wants. If he's willing to take like a show me contract for another year, like, you know, bring him back, maybe try to drive somebody. But yeah, if he's expected to pay a top level quarterback, he's not the I don't think this gentleman would have paid him. I don't think this regime will pay him. I think he'll go elsewhere. I mean, meanwhile, in the AFC, you know, there's 8 or 9 teams that seem all kind of bunched up together. You know, I mean, every team's got at least two losses. You've got three, 5, 6, 17s with two or three losses. So it's such an even, I mean, we can read into that and say like, well, we don't really take the Titans on a seriously. Maybe we don't really take the Chargers that seriously or the judge. The Titans are basically guaranteed to make the playoffs. No, of course, of course. But in terms of actually the better teams here. Right. You know, it's going to make playoffs. I agree, but you know, like, whoever comes out of the NFC south, I mean, that's probably going to lose. In the first game, and so, but you've got a whole bunch of teams that are really closely together. So I guess to kind of, you know, we probably should move toward conclusion here. I mean, any predictions right now, given this strange season about who's going to come out of this on top? I mean, my feeling, my feeling about the AFC is that and I want to say that my process in prediction was the bills and the Chargers in the championship game. I'm going to modify that and say the bills and the Bengals in the championship game. And I think the bills are going to win that. Notwithstanding the loss to the jets, I think they are still the class of the conference. And that is going to play out. In terms of the NFC, I mean, I really have no idea. Right. Given that the top two teams are two teams that I did not really anticipate we're going to be all that competitive. But the Vikings are, they've always been an interesting team, right? And it's sort of the characteristic of the Vikings to be pretty good, but not too good through their entire franchise history.

"Hurts has moved from seemingly functional to really freaking good. Tua has moved from seemingly on the way out of Miami too, like if he could stay healthy really solid. And like Justin Fields, even though the bears have literally nothing on offense. I mean, he and he looks good. And I think these are, you know, I think, and this is so important, I think, too, just for the game and that because it's such a quarterback we're going to gain that, you know, the decline of Brady, the client of Rogers, we haven't talked with rams yet, but I mean, they look Carol. You know, they just look, they're just a mess, they're boring, they're not scoring points anymore. I mean, and you know, we all knew we talked about this on NFL podcast before that the stars of scrubs method at the rams was going to have a very short sell by day. And we may have already hit that sell by day. And so, you know, it's sort of like a changing of the guard and, you know, other than, you know, and then you enter into a point where, you know, last year, the quarterback class that come out in 21 draft, other than, I guess, feels looks pretty bad. It's not good. The 2020 Hugh class, I mean, that's probably a giant nothing burger, which most people did already predict. Certainly watching Malik Willis last night in Tennessee to not exactly suggest this was an NFL ready player. That is really critical for the development of the league to have these new generation quarterbacks. And I think we may be at a moment where finally we're moving beyond that generation of really amazing quarterbacks of Brady Manning, breeze, rivers, Stafford, you know, Eli, I guess, if you want to be generous, breeze, of course. And if I didn't mention, obviously, Rogers, but and starting to really move into the era of new quarterbacks, which is actually if you start adding them all up pretty props. And I think the other thing too is that there's definitely the AFC competition has been very strong although I think from different places. I think I would have expected the charters to be better. And you know, I think yesterday is interesting and that the bills lost, but and that is the one downside to Josh Allen that he'll have turnovers, but the thing is that, you know, we should look at that. The jet defense is serious. Like if that team ever gets a quarterback, like Sal has done a great and Douglas good job for me. Sauce gardeners tremendous. Like a good secondary really good front 7. That's a real defense. That was not a flukey win by the jets. And I don't like I think Al had it off game, but I don't think that was one of those games where it's just unforced errors like the death spider really well. And the one thing is that, you know, you might think that that kind of puts the chiefs into the front receipt, but you know, I don't know that losing to that jets team is worse than letting that Titans team take it overtime with.

"Think he just let the wind get taken out of his sails, but so I'm willing to put him behind leclerc for that reason where he's the clear to be fair. I mean, that team's cost him so many points, but he's been very, he's behavior has been exemplary. Like you've never got the sense other than immediately after every race, obviously. But he's sort of led his tail down a little bit somewhere. I think the live letter is accurate. I think the worm is accurate here. And Verstappen Russell leclerc Hamilton. And in science, are we going to put science there in, what's that? 5th fights? In 5th place? Yeah, he stays there. He stays there. He made mistakes early in the year, didn't he? Yeah. Yeah, only it's tricky. So what it is it's rice winds of kind of done it. See, Perez and science are really battling in that spot. But what I'm going to do, here's my life ladder. I'm going to go Verstappen, brussel. We'll clear feet top three. Let's Hamilton fourth of daylight. Either way, quite frankly. Then I would probably have to adjust. Because he may out. So we've got 5th place, I'd actually put a geo Perez up there. Oh, okay. Here, because we haven't revealed to 60th. Maybe this is the time. Yeah. Well, I would say that, yeah, so I would say that's Sergio Pérez's fief, only because he's just had more, less overt errors. Come his way and obviously the model Grand Prix, huge bonus points, huge turbo points on him. Private TBA for 6th place and unfortunately, I think you have to give Carlos Sainz reluctantly I'm going to put him 7. Oh, okay. In terms of the rankings, only because the amount of errors he had early on in the season because he's only what, three points behind Russell in the championship fight and we almost put George Russell more of a smokey for this year's world title than we would Carlos. And if we look at the maths, it doesn't make sense. But if we look at the long run of form, and Carlos air kind of didn't have a great start early on in the season, which is disappointing. His lady is letting himself down let his country down like the plane down. Friends and family damn like ever great, I fell apology, press conference. But I'm going to be harsh. I'm going to have to be very harsh on that. So I think for me, that's the standings as they are for our top three in the driver fight. Books

The MLB, the Atlantic League and Moving the Mound Experiment
"I wrote about moving back in mid march and that was before it was officially announced that the atlantic could be doing that this year. I think that announcement came. I don't know maybe th in the weeks or months after that article came out and this was something that they had talked about doing in twenty nineteen that they were going to implement a two foot move in the mound and the atlantic league at midseason. And that didn't end up happening in the sense that i got when i was working on my piece earlier. This year is that basically. They were worried about players. You know having workman's comp concerns or or having injuries occur and basically that players would not be happy with this change and that there would be a lot of objections and so they didn't end up doing it that year and then they did this year but only half of the distance just a one foot move and even so hit did not go over well so tell us a little bit about what you learned about how players responded to this both when it was announced if they were even aware of it at that time and since it went into effect earlier this month. Yes so it's more than a handful of players. Mostly pitchers are a feel for what it's like to be in this league. Vins experimenting in a way. That in run countermeasure you. Your career aspirations your individual performance and also your health because there's a lot of sixty one foot now and we don't know about regarded to where it goes to your body and your arm health whatnot. And i think it's fair to say that the players are not overly pleased with how the week has shifted when it comes to the sixty one foot mount self. All the pictures basically agree that had been able to adjust and it wasn't a big deal anymore. Now you know. They did mention like similar. Soffer tossing teammates have issues like there are actual effects on each quality men quality. And what have you so. I don't wanna make it sound like there's no difference whatsoever. Just they were overcome those despite some let's say less than i he'll scheduling and logistical aspects to it but what players are really stressed about. Is that yes. The weakest mobis

"Necessarily even in the usa pool. Well that is a very very significant array of talent to be able to draw from and so she that combination seen there the extra bits of motivation that go into it. It is something. I'm offering intrigued to see how it goes and this is usa basketball team. Let's not forget that even lost to. Sabrina esters oregon sometime back. So it's not as if this is a team that has never ever tasted defeat either inside to sadly was on. That team has an all-star now on the opposition she knows how to get it done and well know many tangents single off on your ideal to say that i- mooting for the all stars only because passed up after three olympic cycles and being on tour a last exhibitions were with team usa. I'm still bitter i. That's all i'm going to say. And i'm just gonna leave it there but i'm really rooting for the all stars. Because i think the drama is so ethically sexy all right. We've got tons of talent everywhere. Let's talk about some midseason awards racial. I'll start with you. who's your mvp right at. It's gotta be between brennan stewart. John john's right. I think for me. I give stewart the edge at this point Not just because of the standings. But i think jonquil is right there. She's right there. I mean i'm telling you it's going to happen at some point whether it's this year next year whatever might be i give the not brand stewart right now simply because of the level that she continues to play out right and in west. Seattle's been deal. I think jonquil jones. She can't miss anymore games. That's that's a key part for me In order to kind of make that push depending on how the second half the season goes. Connecticut ends up finishing never neck and neck. But i give stewart the not. Just because of the standings about you howard. I think it's those two asia wilson. I think it is a three person race at this point. But it's a rachel sport. I think that's exactly ed. John full missing that time. Essentially when jonquil jones left.

"Being an rachel retrograde point but you know not just losing a natasha howard but losing lisa clark as well Who is arguably a top five player in the league last year but to me it does go back to if you have brand steward especially and sue bird. Obviously as well and jewell loyd. It's very hard for me. Not to think of. That team is a title contender. I did have questions. About how asia. Wilson enlist him. Bauge would operate together. there was a little bit of a bumpy ri- mowing toback in twenty nineteen. They have dramatically improved. What they've been able to do together so those to connecticut with chocolate jones by at an mvp level those look like contenders to me to me. That was the top tier. So i can't say i was surprised about that recently. For me with seattle. It was a question mark. I wasn't sure to lose them. Any key. pieces from a defensive standpoint. What clark brought to the teams even sammy. What come in which the energy she would ring to seattle. I mean then you lose. Natasha howard is someone to such a dominant force as a rim-protector wasn't sure. So that was kind of just a question. Martine obviously i knew they'd be being the top three. I'm not surprised that i am. And i i am and i'm not i think for me. I really saw the acis being at the top. Which obviously i mean right now. Flip a coin between those two as to. Who's the best team in the league at this point I saw chicago being a little bit better than what there where they stand right now at ten nine. I think we have to attribute that to the seven game losing streak. I'm not concerned. I think that could be right there. In the end of the order injured as a part of that seven game. Losing allie quigley. So so i. I saw chicago las vegas connecticut all right there at the top. Seattle obviously is in there as well but it was still. I wasn't sure how this team would respond with the losses and to howard's point. Obviously a team with with jewell loyd greta stewart super crazy. We don't have them in the top three so to answer your question. I i definitely felt like chicago would be a little bit higher at this point where they are. That doesn't mean i'm worried though. All right about rachel's latest article. Because i was in lockstep with it. Check it out when you get an opportunity. Rachel who it's out there that when we get to the all star break that the wnba all stars have more than a fighting chance against team usa. Rachel make your case. Just think i think this is a year that that is unprecedented in what this game means. We've seen this match. Before they were considered exhibitions. Which is which is really interesting to me. This year. it's new. The stakes are a little bit different right him. Usa has to truly be tested and prepared to win a gold medal in before we see all star games. It's time time right. People are kind of having fun. We're not really playing defense. Got flightless cam bayrak the run the point. It's it's a fun experience that's lighthearted here. We have a situation where you've got some players on all star team the the wbz all star team. You have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder. And i think that the most unique part about the all star team is the first timers right there. Seven first timers on the offensive firepower alone with the rega- i mean honestly you could go down the entire line williams. This is going to be such a high scoring game on both fronts. And you've got to wonder like which team whatever team decides to actually play defense and compete. And i think they will because there are actually steaks on this game. There's responsibility to compete. I really think if there was a year where we see team. Usa kinda get knocked off in this all star situation because in the past and the exhibitions. That didn't count cumulus. I won pretty convincingly. I think this could be the year i. I really think that you've got with chip on their shoulder. And you have the offensive firepower. Do it about our what are you. I agree with rachel and to me. There's another element to play here. And you just have a talent pool. And i think this is responsible for why there were so many hard feelings around the selection for usa basketball was we have in this country many more than twelve players who have built olympic resumes. And who are capable and should be chosen to be on an olympic team so the net result is that. If you're building a team that goes beyond those twelve. You're going to build a team that absolutely can compete with the very best and so to see that opportunity before you even get into the fact that there can be players on the wnba ulster team in our who aren't.

I'm always happy every time we have her on the show but even more so when she is active as our fearless leader. So please show some love for play by play in women's basketball analysts cindy brunson. Hey cindy thanks so much for having me t i really appreciate it and thank you china for being so freaking busy that i get to run the on. This wonderful podcast. So let's get to a guys as we approach the midway point in the olympic. Rake in the w nba. Which team has impressed you. The most to this point howard. I'll start with you to me. I do think it's the new york liberty and a team that was to in twenty last year. Historically bad offense. They obviously made a lot of changes so far over the off season. We haven't seen those business changes manifest themselves and tasha allergies and played. Much and sabrina national has been at less than one hundred percent. But it's those secondary change that node into into some of those players as well that maybe people weren't talking about as much You know whether it's lane you whether it's semi whitcomb and you see those players making a difference in this team is absolutely making a playoff push And expect natasha howard back pretty soon of course rookie of the year teenage mccain way helping drag us as well. How about for you rachel. No i don't wanna be. Maybe this'll be controversial. But i feel like it's just expected the seattle is going to be at the top of the standings but for me it's seattle. This is a team that lost key players or what they've been able to do. Yeah you could argue that. We still have a stories still have a lawyer. You still have super but make really key pieces last year and it's like the haven't even missed a beat. I think what what they're doing on the court from offensive and honestly defensive standpoint continued to get better throughout the season For me it's seattle. And if i had to say a second one just to kind of throw it in there i think the wreck the record should be better than what it is. It's analysis. ooh i love that. You said the dallas wings. I am really on that team and as pacific northwest native. I have no problem with you going with at all if they were to win back to back. Titles that's eight okay with me. Even though i live in the desert and i am of edicts mercury season ticket holder. I really love what the sar have done. I thought when they lost howard that that was it that the run would be done and like you said they have just been absolutely phenomenal. Okay so those are teams that have really jumped out with us Are these the teams that you both predicted with. Perhaps the in the wnba finals are your predictions at the start of the season. Where you thought they'd be right now. I see seattle being an rachel retrograde point but you know not just losing a natasha howard but losing lisa clark as well Who is arguably a top five player in the league last year but to me it does go back to if you have brand steward especially and sue bird. And i know the china usually has. It's her clipboard. Where she talks about some things that are very important to her. But i don't have a clipboard. I have a tablet. So we're gonna call this to reestablish tablet so just a couple of things on my tablet. I we want to most certainly give a congrats to ty young tamra young. She retired from the wnba this week after twelve years. You have seen her with the dream you've seen her with the aces you've seen her with seattle but most notably. I'm sure you remember her stint which chicago twelve years in this league and she announced via a video in a message on instagram. Why she decided to walk away from the courts. Or if you're interested in seeing her why you can definitely had overturn instagram and check that out but listen tie. Young has most certainly been one of the best in our game She spent the two thousand nine to two thousand seventeen season in chicago appearing in two hundred sixteen games. She was drafted Eighth overall in the two thousand eight draft by the atlanta dream and listen. She's played overseas She's just been one who has most certainly made her mark in the wnba. And so we just want to congratulate her and wish her well on whatever she chooses to endeavor post a basketball career. Also want to give a shout out to my colleague here at espn. Chennai go mckay as well as her sisters. Neka in erica. As they have been listed on nigeria's provisional roster which means they could all play together for the nigerian national team which is something that we have not seen before. We've never seen three siblings. All play in the olympics together in that way and so that would be super fears for them to do so. I know that there has been lots of controversy. Recently surrounding neka mckay's emission from team usa. And so this is most certainly something that i know would be very special to her as well as to chennai and erica day. Come from nigerian ancestry. Their mom and dad or nigerian-born and they themselves hold dual citizenship between nigeria. And the united states. So i know the pride that they have in their nigerian routes. I know the love and pride that they have in in for the game of basketball so just want to give a shout out to them. There has not been an official naming of them to the twelve persons roster just yet but just the fact that you know they have been named to the provisional roster and have the opportunity to represent nigeria in the olympics as a family is just something to be commended. So kudos to you. Ladies before we get into the show we just want to share with you. Antonio Brown Re-Signing With Buccaneers on One-Year Deal
"Antonio brown is good. The case could be made over a six year period before he left pittsburgh he was the best receiver. Sense jerry. rice and the thing about receivers are randy. Moss might have this amazing year or two and his talent was you know. Maybe the best avenue randy moss. Another guy might have a year or two but these receivers tend to come and go fast. Now they stick around they might be like. Julio jones is he won the top three receivers. now he's not today but he certainly had times. Wise brown was very consistent very consistent and in just eight games. He had forty five catches as the number three option and what really stood out is his yards after catch or the best on the team so this is not a guy going out of bounds. This is a guy taken the ball and head up the field. I agree very productive. And if you think about it then that's awesome great. Why well obviously there's the author field questions but if you look at the time before the off the field were the questions. This was as productive receivers. We've seen since jerry rice and that's saying something that means maybe the second most productive six year period ever ever. Now he's hitting the wall when it comes to his age Four receivers typically again jerry. Rice was the exception to that even if he drops off a little bit a little bit. 'cause age antonio brown i believe will be at least as good if not better this year. Well how could he drop off and be better. The other circumstances remember he joined the team midseason right as much as he is a pro's pro in a way that in browns able to get acclimated and get integrated. He was paying much better coming into the playoffs now. He did get hurt but to me. His last three or four games were better than his first three or four which is a trend line. I think they continues with a more robust offseason into having the whole time with the team. So net net. I think browns more of a factor

Philadelphia Eagles sign linebacker Eric Wilson
"Eagles have made some news over the last couple of days that we should pass along. The birds have made a couple of free agent signings Over the last couple of days and will run those down for you here. You can tell. It's a totally new eagles regime by the way when they go out and prioritize adding a linebacker in free agency although the eljay fort fiasco tells us not to count our chickens before they're hatched. The eagles signed former vikings linebacker. Eric wilson to a one year deal this week worth up to three and a quarter million dollars. There is a connection to the eagles. Here with wilson a linebackers coach. Nick rally spent time as wilson's assistant position coach for the last three years in minnesota. So you know so much time when you're adding free agents who your trading for players. There's always some kind of coaching connection especially here with the eagles over the last few years and that continues to be the case. Now wilson turns just twenty years old in september so he's a younger player and became a full time starter for the vikings last year. How do you really solid season for them to record it. One hundred twenty two tackles eight passes defended three interceptions in one forced fumble clearly. He's the number one linebacker on the roster. Right now. he'll be atop the depth chart he'll be the guy starting at middle linebacker unless something totally unforeseen happens. And i'm still kind of trying to figure out how the eagles got their hands on them at this stage in the off season for it for as little as they did and considering the salary cap situation that they're in and we know that this is not a position. The eagles have prioritized a whole lot. In recent off seasons they did again. Like i mentioned a sign eljay for contract very early in the offseason. Two years ago when it seemed like their third free agent off the board and they gave him a lot of guaranteed money. And then jim schwartz never played them and they cut him in midseason in the baltimore. Ravens picked him up in a hurry and he played great for them in the second half of the two thousand nine hundred and season to the point where they signed him to a contract extension before the season was out and eljay ford would have been a very big help in the eagles on the eagles. Defense these last couple of years and so we're kind of. I don't think this is going to go that way Eric wilson has has has a little bit more to his resume than eljay ford did when the eagles picked him up

Chad Ford's NBA Big Board
2021 Lottery NBA Mock Draft
"Tony. And i are going to do our first lottery. Mock draft of the year today. We're going to go back and forth. Selecting picks to put a draft order together. Midseason is really difficult. Especially if you've looked at the standings anytime lately and seen how bunch together so many of these teams are so i went to espn's basketball power index That list teams projected records to the season through a number of statistical factors. I think it's it's probably a better look. At where teams are going to be at the end of the season then necessarily their records right now and then based off of that we put together a draft order that obviously is going to change and obviously will be affected by the nba draft lottery where the top top three teams each have a fourteen percent chance of getting the top pick and so on as you know how the draft lottery works and so doing a mock draft. This time of season tough until really until the draft lotteries over. We don't really know the order but but we have some guesses now based off of where teams what teams have played. And what's going on right now and we're going to do our best to give you a are mock draft For the twenty twenty one season. First one we're just gonna cover the lottery and we're going to let tony how the first pick in the draft and based off of that. Espn bpi has the minnesota timberwolves projected to have the worst record in the league. Which is actually pretty good news for minnesota timberwolves fans because the timber wolves have to trade pick to the golden state warriors if this is pick four thirty and so the only way minnesota keeps this pick is if they fall into top three right now. If the season were tomorrow they'd have about a forty point. Seven percent chance of keeping this year's draft pick a falling the top three in the draft. So this is no guarantee from minnesota that they'll have the number one pick they all said the number one pick last year. Tony you're on the board. Who do you select if you're the timber. Wolves with the number one. Pick in the twenty twenty one nba draft. I select the I will not need three minutes to make the selection I'm selecting k. Cunningham six hundred seventy one hundred twenty point guard out of oklahoma state and so when you When you make your draft selections you do to you draft for two things you draft For value and you draft for need and this is both in pick antibi- you pick for for for the minnesota timberwolves number one. K cunningham is the best player draft You know. I think the gap is actually close Because you know. I think jonathan coachman gain in jalen green. You know both of those guys you look at them and they have some real special tools But that being said you know k. Cunningham is is still am. I is the most shore Most short superstar player in his draft. In and i think that's a compliment to how good distract is going to be especially in the top five But you know cunningham can score at all three levels. No he's sick. He's all seven all twenty. He's he's a natural point guard You know if you're minnesota you're trying to trace the ngelo russell Like as soon as possible In you know you put k. cunningham in the backcourt with anthony edwards who i think both of us can safely say it's better than we thought he would And i think that. That's obviously a backward for the future for the minnesota timberwolves in a really nice triumvirate with karl anthony towns so Definitely you know we all rights won't always talk about. We need some some of these number. One picks the go out east but you get the number one pick in another kind of generational prospect that comes to the western conference. I'm totaling till the agreement with you. Tony i think look. I don't think. I think there's five guys that can make a claim to the number one pick in this draft and so it's not like cunningham is a lock here but because of that i would put all of these players in the same tier and then when you look at what minnesota actually needs on their basketball team. Right now i think cunningham is just the right fit for this team as well and i i see him as a really nice compliment to karl anthony towns and to ant man right now and i think that this is this will be a huge boon for minnesota. If they get this pick and you know look everybody in minnesota has got gotta be crossing their fingers at this point Like you said if they fall out of the top three golden state gets this pick. And i think golden state already one that andrew wiggins dangelo russell trade as it is but if they end up getting you know the fourth or fifth pick in the draft does as as well. It's going to be an absolute massacre on that trade.

LCS to Drop Spring and Summer Splits in Favor of One Long Season
"After covering the winners of worlds and the new look. elsie k. we learned. Thanks to reporting for travis stafford that the lcs is taking on a new structure as well as eastport has driven by two separate splits for years. The spring split has its own schedule and playoffs leading into msi and then the summer split starts over with a new record. A new regional playoffs at worlds for a long time. The league of legends community has critiqued. The spring split really doesn't matter that much and it looks like riot might agree frankly. It's also a little bit confusing to people who aren't in the league of legends world. The have two regular seasons with one world so rights changing instead of spring and summer it will be one long season a link travis's video underneath this episode. Here's a lot more information. I won't be able to fit into these two minutes. Midseason invitational or msi will still exist for the lcs. They'll just do a random spring tournament in the middle of the season to figure out which teams qualified as every other region is keeping the spring and summer splits. At least as far as we know right now it stands to reason that riot would test out this new structure with the lcs before making it a permanent structure of other regions in the future. They did something similar with a long term partnership franchising model as well. One thing we do know about this season according to travis is that teams will play more in the previous format teams. Play each other twice in summer twice spring but now they will play five matches against every other team that makes for forty five game season not counting the mid season tournament or playoffs. There's also apparently a preseason tournament according to travis but he didn't have any more details. I believe they're also revitalizing the amateur system with an upcoming third tier below in kademi level. In fact if you saw the cloud nine signing of a young player c nine. Ceo alluded to a new structure for underneath the lcs. Although wasn't entirely clear what he was talking about while fourteen year olds like the one cloud nine side can't compete in the lcs they may create special provisions for these amateur circuits and see just jumped the gun a bit to try and snatch up a young talent again all info in this podcast is source from travis and i encourage you to watch his video

Breaking Down Valve's Response to DPC
"So I wasn't sure how to approach US exactly but this may seem a little weird. We're going to read off the entire post that vowed made. We're going to split it up so that people don't get sick on my voice, of course. It's essentially read it in your normal voice or you're going to read it in your dramatic voice because if you read it a new dramatic voice, people get sick of it after one minute I what I was not planning on doing anything in my normal voice. But now that you brought it up, it would annoy people it makes me want to do it more now but regardless how you are. Valve has responded Holy Shit in valve has finally responded. To the community regarding the season that is to come. We've kind of split up between that and the Doda TV slash streaming. News. So let let's talk about the first thing which is the DPC's. So again, it's going to be a bit of a along read. We've heard a lot of the complaints re recently about the state of the DP and we agree that there's more that we should do. We want it to use this blog to walk you through what happened before what our thoughts were and what we will do going forward. Spring Twenty twenty. Once the extent of the covid nineteen pandemic became clear. We posted our plans to delay the international started pre-booking arenas for various alternative dates and countries around the world. We then began researching how to execute the international based on how different, how the different pandemic scenarios could play with the hope that we'd be able to host it as soon as possible since the spring DPC events could no longer operate anymore we started reaching out to the organizers to see what they wanted to do going forward. Some of these organizers shared their desires to run third party events to cover the period march through the end of summer. Summer Twenty twenty twenty one split this up between you and You keep going. I'll do the summer twenty, twenty, do the rest. Sorry Twenty twenty as we approached the middle of the summer, the volatility of the pandemic had grown significantly. We became very concerned about the impact it would have on future deep-sea events and the International. The global situation meant that cross regional play would be unlikely for a period of time and we have since seen scenarios globally and other competitions where teams from certain countries had to be excluded after qualifying do abrupt travel restrictions and complications. Americans can't go anywhere syndrome unless it's Ukraine Hanley while we had that was not part of the quote just to let you guys. Inter and you're. Not The competent then I would love under sprinkle in a little couple things like that just to spice it up you know but anyway. While we had already assumed that having a cry for the events was not in the cars we wanted to at least have confidence able to bring all teams together across region competition. We felt that was a very important component of how we allocate DC points for the International. We were also unsure of when the international itself would happen and given the significant lead time needed. The increase spread and the virus made harder to model out a timeframe with confidence. The potential of the season as narrative feeling to detach from the path towards the international was negative for us doing that would also necessitate a DP point decay system, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing but having to abruptly introduced decay midseason if the landscape changes has some additional downsides. Furthermore, we had also received some feedback from a couple of or that were either worried about the quality of the broadcast being lower or reluctant to want to operate GPC events in the fall altogether while neither the Cross region competition nor the relative distance to the international or absolute requirements. We felt the DPC as both the function of the international, and also as a coherent product for fans would be better served by holding off on them for. Now given that our plan was that we'd make the upcoming months open and clear for other leagues and Events to operate. Our approach historically has been to want third party tournus be able to exist outside of the international though the degree of that has been fluid over the years demands from fans and players for more structured circuits to lead to increased. Our hope was that we could both achieve a better and more coherent relationship between DC and TI. By approaching it this way as well as still along for third party events to have an impact with the overall Anders Zolt for fans still being that, there would be entertaining content to watch. In the fall. I'll give you this parrot this last section center in the you're not paying attention or you want me to read everything still you don't want them finish talking about this one I mean, do you want to break it up that way? That's fine as well as I guess, we should read the next. Okay. Moving forward. Soon. After we announced that there were not immediately proceeding that we were not immediately proceeding with GPS planned we received a lot of negative feedback from fans. We think that a lot of the points that were raised were reasonable criticisms toward us especially because we did not communicate what our intentions were and what they could expect in the future. that it doesn't say there guys. For this upcoming competitive season, there are going to be at least four third party events and leaks in the EU CIS, three in China and a few others that are still in the preliminary planning stages and are not able to commit at this time. However, there is still going to be a lot of teams, Casas organizers and fans around the world that are not going to be meaningfully served based on the current trajectory, and that is our fault for not pushing on those and supporting them enough. With that in mind, we started reaching out to many more tournament organizers to offer help and financial support in order to be able to create increased coverage globally for the remainder of the year we expect that these eventually gradually announced over the remaining season as they as soon as they are ready to communicate to fans and teams. And other feedback we got from players as well as fans was wanting more clarity in what we were thinking where the likely dates for deep-sea and tied to resume. Our look right now is that we're anticipating the start of the in the first month or two of twenty twenty one. Our hope is that by the end by the time, the first deep-sea leak concludes travel limitations will be more predictable. Spontaneous restrictions will be less likely this allowing for majors with Cross region competition happen where also operating under the assumption that the most likely outcome is for the International to happen in Stockholm in August twenty, twenty one. while. We have other countries backups. We recognize that fans would be upset if we moved to another location if the time savings

Call of Duty's Gunsii Talks Change from 5v5 to 4v4 and RosterMania
"Less than twenty four hours after everyone Chaffetz activision blizzard announced the. Four for the next season, which changed from five five to forty four. Now, this is a bit of returned to its roots colored duties sports a four before was how everything used to run but what that change happening gear with no expansion beyond the twelve ts CDL suddenly, twelve spots for pros have disappeared at the highest level the change to forty four reserve the controversial. So players Ford Southern gutsy. Where do you say that change? honestly it's a, it's a very huge change I. Remember growing up being younger watching for before and then seeing the expansion five and an amateur scene that kind of got everyone's hopes up because they it being bobby five there's more spots there's more opportunities there's just there's just more to it. Now going back to forty four it's just a lot of competition. I thought I thought last year in the amateur scene. There was a lot of good talent out there and a lot of good anyone can be picked up this next upcoming year. But how it went back to forty four, it's going to be gladiator. Definitely, it seemed like a lot of teams defaulted to who some of the old guns veterans who've been call of duty for quite a long time this I hear the CDL but we also saw a lot of rookies. You saw the empire shots Utah Mac for the New York subletters really turnaround that team belt midseason, Y- There's value in having some of these young players you know people might recognize some of the big names but having young players having that young energy has shown to be really successful for a lot of teams. Yeah I agree one hundred percent I see a lot of the older people, all the people that commute competed saying how people always forget but I think there's just a lot of talent emceeing that you just have to take a chance like. There's just so much talent out there. There's so many people unknown people that don't get that chance. It don't have the connections to get to the next level, but they have that potential night just feel like if more professional teams take a chance on the obscene or brought more spotlight that it can just show like the potential we have in here. Absolutely you know previous success is not necessarily an indicator that you're going to continue being graded a game call of duty is just a game that changes each year at East sports in in all people just fall off at a certain point you gotta be make sure you're bringing in the young players, the people that could really source the seen few like the teams that are having the most success because if you could just grab a guy that was great on optic for years ago, dot com out any particular. Maybe. But that's not necessarily going to be great CDL. So you have to make sure that you're up-to-date with WHO IS THE BEST Of the youngest of the upcoming right now, I mean it has been a while since we've had new players like into the scene lake. I personally feel I. Don't personally feel but I, think it's time for like a new generation of that would make sense like I'm not calling them old but. I don't know I don't know where I'm going with this. No I. Think you're right. I talked about this a little bit with Mac on the show is that there's sort of a changing of guard first of all word the CD L. wherein entirely new eastward structure we've already seen. J.. Cap Who is one of those guys who's long time success retire we saw Karma retire we saw you know. Empire wins the championship at its. cloister that they drop waster. I can kramer clay for a second but yeah, they drop Claes who's now a three time world champion at keep the rookies keep some of the the other guys that. So it's feels like there is a bit of a changing of the guard. It's just up to some of those team managers to be like, okay we're gonNA take the chance on somebody who maybe doesn't have the pedigree but has the skill, and then they could start just you saw with Mac is hey, does it take long? If you start having success, you can start building your own brand. quickly.

Is MLB's Wave Of Injuries About To Get Even Worse?
"So you know heading into this sixty game, just sprint of a season, what was the expectation around baseball as far as pitcher injuries were concerned, they're definitely wasn't expectation that injuries would be up this year. We had trainers inside baseball and outside baseball pitchers being worried about the start and stop nature of shutting down and then starting back up again when they would normally be midseason form and then just not knowing how much the pictures were doing in their own time and there's There's even a question of liability of how much you can tell a pitcher to do because what if you tell them, they have to do since we're throwing program and then they contract the virus while they're doing that. So there was this weird dance of like we want you to stay on top of things, but do only as much as you can and please do something, but we're not telling you to do something. So everyone's sort of saw this coming well, so now. Two and a half weeks into the season what has been the reality pitcher injury people might think be up over time. It's been fairly steady for the last ten years except for this year. Basically right now, three times more pitchers have been injured than the average year and twice the worst year on record in the last ten years. So we're talking about the second day of the season until the eleventh day of the season, and it's up three times. We saw the closure in Toronto Giles, the starting. Starting, pitcher in Chicago Lopez. Ver- lander, we're starting to see more and more injuries plus we all the payroll he wants to say, it's just kind of the ramp up and the slowdown, and the fact that we didn't have a real spring training. Those things are true and that's probably a part of it. But the other thing is also true I. Think the pictures, some of them are throwing harder because it's a shorter season. You see jake degrom who already through really hard now sitting like ninety nine. News after the fastball away and quickly it's. Ninety, nine miles now, some serious fair. From the ground when we started tracking velocity in a real way of and around two thousand and two, the average starters. fastball was eighty nine miles an hour flash forward to. The average fastball for starting pitcher right now is ninety, three eight and the party. You throw the closer you throw to your maximum personal maximum more stress. You put on your elbow on top of that. There's a reliever usage problem right now, relievers are getting half the winds in baseball. They're pitching half the innings. They're pitching more innings than they've ever pitched starters are coming. Coming out in the fourth inning now, and that's putting more onus on the relievers who the short ramp-up wouldn't have meant as much relievers. But Twenty relievers are now on the deal right now, that weren't on day two. So I think the relievers shouldering the burden is part of the problem too.

Infinity Ward has removed the controversial 'OK' gesture from Modern Warfare - Gamasutra
"Call of duty, modern warfare has removed the okay symbol. This is Wesleyan Pool at euro game. Infinity Ward has quietly removed the okay gesture from call of duty, modern warfare and warzone. The developer has yet explained the decision and publisher. activision has so far failed to comment. After euro game got in touch last week, but it seems likely. The gesture was pulled due to its status as a symbol. In call of duty, modern warfare and war zone, you're able to assign hand gestures to your character for use out on the battlefield, the okay gesture, which was added to the game and was used by some as a trick shot of sorts, the players, the player character, doing the okay sign with their left hand while firing the gun with right called UB social media. Would often carry clips players during the okay sign as they ended a multiplayer match or a game of warzone with the final kill, but the okay sign is no longer in the game pulled. Pulled on the quiet by Infinity Award as part of modern warfare midseason update and replaced by a new gesture called crush. There is no mention of the change in the official passionate, but of course it didn't take players long spot the difference. In September Twenty nineteen, the anti-defamation League out of the okay signed to its list of hate symbols, after it was found to be used by some as sincere expression of white supremacy. I? Its use in this context owes its origins to users on four Chan. Who pretended? There was a hidden meaning behind the okay sign in a bid. Trick the media into a reaction. However, the this ploy ended up with the okay signs us. By the far right and now many believe it's meaning has changed while board has yet to comment. The removal of call of duty is okay. Gesture probably has to do with the ongoing black lives matter movement. The developer has issued strong statements in recent weeks pledging to crack down on racism, call of duty, modern warfare, and even inserting a black lives message into the game or black lives matter message into the game. This isn't the first time video game. Industry has taken action over the case on back in April. Twenty nineteen blizzard reportedly told the fan in the overwatch a league arena. They were not allowed to use the okay sign after it was spotted on a stream and a complaint was made.

"We Win Stadium you will be at home. I can promise you will feel you support. Stay safe. We are still with you and. You'll never walk alone. That was liberal F. C manager Jergen KLOPP in a message released yesterday. That will bring a tear, not just the eyes of his supporters. The dare I say anyone who cares about the most popular sports league in the world. That's right folks. After a three-month hiatus. The English Premier League is back today. Roger Bennett from men in blazers fills us in on these frantic few remaining weeks. So grab a pint and US as sub optimal tour of English soccer. I'm sorry, English football. I mean it comes. It's Wednesday. June seventeenth. This is ESPN daily. Presented by marathon. Roger! Kim's. Are you relieved? Your any skin daily and not my NFL pod, talking about your beloved quarterback Mitch Trubisky You Know God Love Mitch. trubisky is an incredible pressure to be knowing that your whole life is just destined to pan out to become the answer to a trivia question in about ten years, who was taken ahead of Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes. Roger Bennett is suffering bears fan. He's also the CO host of men in Blazers on the NBC. Sports Network and the men in Blazers podcast by just braced for him to end up with the green. Bay Packers, leading them on a fourth quarter drive two feet, my beloved Chicago Bears, and I can't wait for that movement. They'll probably deserve it. And we're not talking about bears football today. The wait is over the English premier league. The most Popular Sports League in the world is back after a one hundred day hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic Roger I'm sure you've been getting your fix from Bundesliga but I have to imagine the return of English. Soccer is hitting a little different for you. One hundred days feels like one hundred years to be candid. I've been staring at squirrels running up trees in the park, and feeling the adrenaline burst of a run through midfield, watching raindrops charge down my window and feeling just an incredible wing-play into play of missed from the primarily, but yes, it's back today with its global ratings I mean in Britain for much of Europe for much of the rest of the world outside of the United States, it's kind of a seismic as the NFL and the NBA rolled into with the Pantheon of heroes and villains to moments of glorious ecstasy, searing dispath fuse with dodgy haircuts snack tattoos. One hundred days off. When are going to have ninety two games scattered almost daily over the next couple of weeks. It's coming back because we love it because we miss it. It's coming back for. Hard news commercial reasons ultimately to an economic decision. It's going to come back and ghost game situation where it's fabulous. It's going to be different. The lack of an audience will have an impact on the football. We watched, but most importantly it is going to be good enough. It's GonNa. Be Great enough to connect us to a ruling global conversation and that's ultimately I think. Think we will miss about sports as our calling them. Ghost Games I hadn't heard that got left the Germans. They have a name for everything. Lay. They Call Them Guy Bela. And that is what they will be. Sam Darnold knows a thing or two about those back to English premier league, so we hit positive with most of the season done with exception of Liverpool they're. They're still to be decided. The top half of the table. Seven teams vying for five spots determine who will qualify for Champions League and Europa League which for those who don't know are the midseason European tournaments to be held next year. Roger Liverpool have clinched Champions League. Spot Manchester City has of course been banned from Champions League for Breaking Financial Fair play rules so that. That spot remains open despite city being second in the League. Right now. Arsenal wolves Chelsea Menu Lester Tottenham Sheffield all in the mix. What are you expecting to see from the top of the table? When the race for Champions League qualification, which is a bit like football's march madness, it's big tournament in which the best teams in the world. You're rail, Madrid, your boss Alana's. Para Sanjay Man's by Munich's compete all. Big English teams won't be in that for brand reasons for competitive reasons for commercial reasons and is. And completely wide open at the bottom of the table. All say English football has some Incorr- ellegation, which is if you watch game of thrones? It's a bit like the moon door. Teams get flung through that in baseball, the worst teams every year like the Orioles in the mall in which is flung out of the major leagues, the mooted, and in that place. We had the Tulsa drillers around rook. Rook Express and that is, it's a searing. It is a haunting. It is a savage palm of the global football tradition, and you have six teams at the bottom who are fighting to avoid what can be economically devastating their revenue roughly hauls flung out. The Premier League is savage for the fan base. One Minute. You are watching your team. Take to the glamorous fields, Manchester United and Arsenal the next. Round Brentford Luton Barnsley barring a miracle the Jewish using Norwich canaries will disappear, but there's five teams Aston. Villa Bouma th what furred and West Ham amongst them, two of which will go with them for the big story line. Meena is Liverpool Football Club. American owned little football. Club owned by the Boston Red SOx owners, F S J and their yearning. They're dreaming of a return to greatness that was once titletown by when I was a kid growing up in Liverpool. Just six points away from lending the title that they have dreamed of then. That is the great storyline of the season. On that note. This Sunday. The team that you root for I'm sorry. I'm getting a producer this side you support. Everton, we'll be squaring off against Liverpool. They are twenty five points clear off the other teams in the League, and there's possibility they can clinch the title at Goodison Park Against Your beloved Everton on Sunday

Racing Rundown: A Horse Racing Podcast
San Felipe, Santa Anita Handicap
"All right here we go. We're back on racing down today. Episode Number Fifty. We got a lot of stuff to get to today. Three fifty three fifty point preparations on the docket for this week. In one hundred Fifty Kentucky Derby points up for grabs three more horses will be on their way to Churchill. Downs weekend. There's also a bunch of other stakes around the country this weekend most notably the grade. Santa Anita Handicap. So we'll get to all those book. I we gotta get to the action from this past weekend in Saudi Arabia and the conversation is coming up at. I've seen it come up in multiple different areas is about the winner of the Saudi. Maximum Security You know that is probably the most the Kentucky Derby incident and you know. I'M NOT GONNA come on here and you know say that the Saudi Cup has anything to do with the decision that was made at Churchill. Downs or anything like that or argue that the disqualification now because he's one twenty million dollars. Saudi Cup shouldn't happen I I am not gonNA come on here. Make that argument I just off you know really looking at it. It's unfortunate that happened because maximum security is really just such a tough horse. And you know there's not enough good things you can say about maximum security and you know that raise really showed that maximum security is one of the best horses in the world and obviously right now. The leader of the pack in the United States for older horse. Right now and be really cool to see this horse competing for your old year and you know depending on where he goes from here. Obviously you know. They already mentioned that. He's not going to Dubai. But just where MAC security goes from. Here I'm excited to see that. And what he has in store you know. I'm sure Eric will have some of his things. Say about maximum security. But that's something not lost museum. Fortunate -ness of the disqualification at the Kentucky Derby. Because you know this is a really really fantastic horse for sure. I mean he's slowly and steadily starting to shed that tag of being the Horse Sector disqualified from the Kentucky Derby even though it will always remember that way. If you were to continue what you did last weekend easily going to be more remembered as one of the better horses heading into this decade in this early part of the century the obviously he's now ten million dollars in earnings in at this stage career. It's only getting go go higher. It'll be interesting to see where he gets brought back. I met in. Saratoga is kind of the midseason point. Four the connections there But honestly I think he's already cemented. His legacy added great horse. Just you know like cigar did way back when of when he won the inaugural Dubai World Cup. Maximum security is going to be able to say the same thing for the Saudi Cup where he'd be a really good group of Horses. I might add Definitely was not lighten any sense I think every horse for the most part Ranta form in the Saudi Cub ibew. Probably the biggest surprise people contend but definitely not be By a quarter of a lengthy Iran. Huge She's also in so many other horses from the race but maximum security Kind of a rough trip was definitely a target especially for teas on Mutual Gustavo. Louisa has had to get created down the stretch. But you work down in that. Horses has tons and tons of heart. I don't really know I've seen a horse. Who Does Not WanNa let him worse by like maximum security does. It's quite impressive. How this works bears down to every time he races and I just think I I I think we all know. He's in pre twenty twenty if he stays healthy yeah. That was another thing that I didn't quite get that opening. Bid Is the fact that you know. Maximum security did all that won the race while Iran Ortiz was basically writing interference. I made the comment to Eric Baxter. Excuse jokers still out there kind of looked like a NASCAR and now you can say all you want about. How you know. Probably wasn't the best rider. You didn't have good character of Iraqis. I thought it was a good strategy on his part to do what he could to be. Maximum security obviously probably definitely in this country If he would probably would have been disqualified but I thought it was good on his part to do his best to win. Win The race. And try to keep maximum-security away because I don't think I if you run that race normally maximum-security just goes by with the rules over there. They run category One rules which unlike in America the disqualification rules are if you preventing a worse from running their best race. You get disqualified. There is. That's worse when when you run interference or not so if mutual Gustavo Iraqis does dat but the horse wins by Lincoln half. It's not a problem. Give what was within the rules so it was a good ride? Bhai Iran It was definitely a little malicious. I certainly Jason Service not lease with IRA. Teaser was on the first things. He made a comment about after the race. In the in an interview shortly after On national television I might add But at the same time that's I mean the races aren't one you know like a track meet where you can necessarily go between the lane. This horse racing and that kind of stuff can fly to an extent maybe a little over the edge. I think especially when acting security job inside. I really started to hurt an inside but I was happy that I read never intentionally drew contact although he was doing some blocking like you said NASCAR ask He never intended to make contact which I think was probably the safest thing and when he when he knew the horses about to go by he kind of backed off on trying to get through so are running more interference so while maybe was maybe a little militias It definitely was good race riding on his part all right so that. That's it for this stuff with the Saudi Cup Stripping back over Cross sees out before we get to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks preparations that you want to highlight a Horse Zulu al folk who is turning into his own. You know I will highlight at about this point last year. This is were bricks and more bricks and mortar was not not saying that Zulu Alpha is going to be the next bricks mortar. Or anything like that. But you know he could do similar things to where it's very likely he's going to do similar things to what bricks and mortar didn't very likely that this is probably the top tier force in the United States. This year. You know at this point last year. Bricks and mortar was a great one Winnipeg World Cup turf and and then he had a great to race. I believe it was either at fairgrounds are one of the tracks Louisiana so to this point Zulu Alpha grade one winner Pegasus World Cup turf now. He's agreed to winner The Mac Ramadan down at Gulfstream. This past weekend. I think Zulu Alpha's in for a really strong really really strong two thousand twenty Keep your eye on him. Come for race like the turf classic the Kentucky Derby Undercard. That's where I would him go but not saying Zulu Alpha is an expert in order. But I'm not saying that he isn't either into Rena. Bricks and mortar was able to have consistent success last year is because all the worst is behind him weren't consistent. I mentioned on the show last week. That Group of forces that Zulu Alpa was facing. He actually used to be a part of that group they never were able to consistently put together strong back. That rates it's bricks. Mortar took it to a new level. Easily able to string together back Multiple consecutive good races in a row. And that's what God in his horse of the year title. And if these keep going the weather going is do. The wealth is going to be able to do the same thing last year Even though I was Kinda surprised after neier introduced the Turks Trinity Series that no horse really emerged from that as premier career force and to be chair. I mean we see that with Dirt horses as well on the on the Derby trail. They don't always shape out after the triple crown trail to be good and that kind of creates inconsistencies in the handicapped division like we saw maybe back Towards the end of maybe before the end of two thousand seventeen that you're got stronger as it went on but nevertheless China look into Alpa. Maybe like an expert in order. I wouldn't be surprised because once again the turf division isn't strong and If I'm going to throw one out there vitality is probably the best grass three year old male out there And I know. The connections are keen. Distract him out so he could be wanted content we know. He has loads talent. So at this point Zulu Alpha is primed at least stay home maleter force because so far. There are no challengers within a mile oven.

NBA Formally Proposes 78-Game Season, In-Season Tournament for 2021-22
"It has leaked out today. Brian both from Adrian margin asking and Shamsher Rania the NBA has sent teams proposal for the twenty one twenty two season so this is the one thousand nine hundred twenty season so this would be two seasons from now. I'm just going to go down the list. You tell me if it's a hard no something you would consider. Yes okay. Seventy eight game season down from eighty to absolutely yes. You're not worried I'm with you but you're not worried that it messes is with the integrity of the stats like that. I don't care okay. I don't care either. Baseball went basement. There's no gain that's more stat driven than baseball in terms of how we honor people in this. Whatever it's not always been one hundred sixty two games in baseball dave adjusted and the big worry is if you go to seventy eight games these well? What are you GonNa the revenue that you made from the other four games because all of us are paid based on an eighty two game season? Here's your answer. It's the second thing in in season tournament so roughly thirty five games into the season. You have a tournament and the players each get a million bucks if they win it in. The coach gets a million and a half in season tournament halfway through. What do you think stupid disagree? Here's why right now. All we're not even thirty five games in there are. How many games the Lakers your twenty-five before they played basically thirty twenty nine Would you agree with me that there are eight to ten teams that we already know. Aren't making the playoffs. Yes that are just dogs with fleas. Yes like the the Knicks. Yes okay. This gives their fans something a reason to watch something. Does it it though it does. I would want a game right until they are eliminated taking a step further. Bill Simmons wrote a proposal on the ringer where he said what you have to do with. This is because most players make so much money that a million dollars. They wouldn't even care about what you have to do. What they care about is making the playoffs and win the title? Let's say you win the tournament you should get credit for like five wins. That now makes it. Because here's the deal. The problem with it is win the tournament and you get a playoff spot instead of who the team that is. I don't like data. I need all because I'm just throwing that the that's you're you're basically getting the problem along with the only incentive incentives that you can really add our is money and that's what they're talking about basically the interest unless so you'd go the Simmons route and you say it helps you make the postseason. That's good for three games. Four games or whatever it might be and taking that at team and putting them into the playoffs over a team that gets you. You know that that that wins more over the entire sny seventieth season but you gotTa Watch Turnham. There's a wrinkle. That's coming where I could say. You combine idea to an idea three but the biggest problem right now is not that you can't get the players to care it's that you can't get the fans to care because okay great. The Lakers win the mid season tournament. So what like. Why do I care about at that? Mostly I'm concerned. I'm going to be watching this thing going. God I hope Anthony Davis doesn't get hurt. There is a way that you can maybe combined make this kind signed to work with the idea that you were saying before we get to idea three all right play in tournament for the seven and eight seeds in each conference this this I like I do too. I like this a lot. So maybe you take seven eight nine ten or seven eight nine. Make a round robin whatever might be right and you play that as a plan Dan. I love this idea because now you're talking about you know reason to care if you're an eighth seed or nine senior couple of games back like you know you still have a chainsaw. There's usually not much of a difference between eight and nine in terms of how good they are right and so I like the idea of extending it so those teams have report teams jockey to get to the six right and what. Oh you now want to do is if you wanted to say. It's a seven eight nine are part of this plan. Plus the winner of the Eh of mid season tournament. But what happens if it's not one of those teams like you know right. Well you'd have to play with it. I think you can take time. It's not going to matter and so I don't think I don't think it's a fan. I'M GONNA care about my team if it's good winning some pointless midseason tournament when really wanted to win a title and I'd be worried guys get hurt again matter. Well did he get hurt and practice. So here's what Adams's practicing to win the the thing at the end. Well here's what Adam silver is trying to duplicate. They do this in soccer all the time they play for a cup in the middle of the season and and it's fun fund. If you're a Laker fan what you want is you want to see your team play. So they're in this tournament. You're watching and you're GONNA watch and you're GONNA care but you're not going to be super deeply invested in the away to the playoffs and the differences if I'm not like a steep soccer guy but most of these things are are between leagues. It's like the Bundesliga team. Plays the Premier League team and Lalita. And it's like whatever you know. I forgot the name of these things. But like it's all of these great teams together playing against each other so you're the match ups that you wouldn't otherwise see. This is just another version of Lakers versus nuggets. I just I don't understand I don't think means more more though. It's just a regular season game if it's in the tournament I it unless you can incentivize it so it was actually has more meaning than that. I don't see. Yeah Simmons. Good are wondering about the last thing that the proposal that they sent to the teams final four when the teams get to the final four. You reseed in the play offs based based on regular season records. So if if the Lakers and the clippers battle for the Pacific Division. Let's say the Lakers went and the Lakers win. Sixty five games but the clippers finished second in one sixty four games. The Clippers then are not a division winner in that scenario. And let's say they have to play a a team from the Central Division that only one fifty five games right now. The reason the way it exists is the division winner. Has Home Court really. Yeah the clippers yet. The the clippers would would have to be the row team. This would reward you for a better regular season record regardless of your stand. Absolutely I agree. I'm Greg what do you think of all those. Are there. Any that jump out is good or bad to you. Know I'm good or bad. No I really liked the plane game to see love nothing. That's fantastic tastic I tend to actually agree with Brian on the NCAA tournament. Say like an like a weird is rising as many excellent points you know throughout my radio time right every once in a while but this is just one of those things like. Yeah I'm just because. Let's say the Lakers win win the mid season tournament right Willie no win the final. Like oh you're like Oh yeah. We won the midst. Congratulations on being the mid season tournament. Champion where the NBA finals champion. I mean anyth- so simmons the idea. Was You have a Russell Cup in a Chamberlain Cup okay. And in the Russell Cup you get the teams that have the fourteen best records okay Eh and in the Chamberlain Cup you have the

Cam Newton has likely played his last game for Panthers
"Today. We Distorting Carolina the panthers to Place Cam Newton on I r that effectively ends his season. Gm Marty Harney said today. The doctors agreed that Newton should continue to pass the scribes and by the team's medical staff and that likely will take significant time for his injury to fully heal in quarterback news elsewhere. The jags are going going back to nick. foles over rookie sensation Gardner. Men's shoe coach. Doug marrone made that announcement today saying polls is ready to return from a broken collarbone and we'll start next week against the Colts Jacksonville currently on a bi week that I think relatively expected given nick foles is finally healthy. I'm not sure that we thought. Cam Cam Newton would miss the entirety of the season. Although at some point you began to speculate obviously early on in this injury Cam. Newton said himself he wanted to be one hundred percent before he returned to playing football. And when you have cal plane the way he is just Carolina Panthers Teen actually excelling in his absence now. He can focus on being completely healthy when he gets back. But I know you always want to play as a player so if you can keep a guy like Cam Newton a competitor like that. It has to be serious injury and for his his future for his career. We're you hope he comes back as healthy as possible that you say use career as you were talking I was just thinking. Is His future going to be Carolina. You have to wonder now because we were having these conversations over the last few weeks. Yes it's CAM new team. This organization is behind Kyle Allen and obviously seem very comfortable with him being the starter have they given up. Hope that it cam is the answer. That Cam is the future there now especially now that he's GonNa miss the rest of the season this is about. I don't think it's about hope. I think it becomes about how L. is going to be a cheaper player. He's a player that but you can build around with money. And he's also one games in. This is the new. GOP This isn't the guy that drafted Cam Newton and we'll have an emotional title and let's be clear it's Thailand new GM. It's a new owner David in his second year of ownership. I think everything. And everyone is being evaluated Ron Rivera Kyle. Allen is the best to lead the seem to winds ends. That's what you'll see. You have a new owner right. WHO's GONNA eventually want his own guys in there all the way down general manager head coach all the way down quarterback? I think they're going to move in a direction. If they don't just start ripping off winds here I think they'll move in a big direction. Now the one thing about Cam to understand this liz frank injury okay. So that means there's a separation of the bones foot so it wasn't healing otherwise he would come back so he'll he'll he'll but he has to probably get screws put in there in order to really really locked down and then he and then people come back from those injuries. You have to wonder if Camden played his final game for the Carolina Panthers Time. We'll tell them that front. It certainly been his final game this
