"She had no issue with turning up the scary factor, as she was already safely at home. I'm going to tell you the story of miss moomoo, the demon cow of Middletown, Ohio, Josephine said, kicked out of hell itself for being too evil, miss moomoo comes out every October to graze on the souls of young girls. The smiles of glee quickly turned to looks of unease. Josephine had a very descriptive way of speaking, and they couldn't believe that she said the word hell. Josephine went into more detail about how the hellish heifer would stalk the children and eat them before turning them all into cow pies. Susie shouted while plugging her ears. Stop it, you're scaring her, Margaret exclaimed. What? I'm just foreshadowing. It's a commonly used plot device in horror movies. Josephine said in her defense. Looking at the clock, Margaret realized that it was time for her to get home. Susie carley and Margaret gathered up their things as they headed for the door. Have a safe walk, Suzy, don't let miss moomoo get you. Josephine shouted. Just before closing her door. At the end of Josephine's driveway, Margaret went left, as Susie and Carly headed right. The two had made this walk many nights before. But there was something strange about this particular evening. Maybe it was the scary stories that they just swapped, or how they were irresponsibly drinking iced coffees at 10 p.m.. As they continued to walk, they couldn't help but feel like they were being watched. From the opposite side of the street, they heard a wrestling of leaves. What was that? Susie whispered over to Carly. In that moment, the fear had crept in the Carly two. The sounds of the night crickets and street lamps slowly began to silence. As the only thing the two could hear, were their hearts beating. Carly grabbed Susie's hand as they both stood frozen in the middle of the street. Neither one could conjure the strength to check their surroundings. Just as they were about to make a run for it, they heard another noise from behind them. It sounded like that of a giant beast huffing just before an attack. Susie slowly turned her head to see a large figure with two big horns. It's miss moo moo. Suzy yelled, as both girls screamed and ran for it. But as the girls were gaining speed, they couldn't help but notice that the demon bowl was chasing after them. No matter what direction they would take, the loud stomps of the creature would follow close behind, while still making its demonic snorts. Fatigued and dehydrated from the iced coffees, the girls knew they were only a block away from a busy intersection, where they could get help. It took everything they had to keep running. As they could feel the hot breath of the beast blowing on their backs. As the headlights of the cars came into focus, the girls ran onto the crosswalk and flagged down the cars at the red light. Help us, you've got to help us. The two screamed. Before continuing to run across the street as the girls reach the next sidewalk, they began to hear car horns honking and people screaming. What's the matter with you? I'm a thirsty cow. The beast cry it out. Can anyone pull me a Cara moon loo? The honking continued, as the cow person refused to get out of the street. Sue and Carly were finally coming back to reality. They were no longer viewing the world in the same scared way they had been. Taking a closer look, that's when they realized that this was no beast. Standing in front of the angry drivers was a drunk woman, just wearing a cow costume. The two girls watched as police lights quickly filled the intersection. As the police officer stepped out of their car, a strange man came running from one of the nearby houses. Thank God you're here, said the man. That is the same cow that I spotted peeing on my front porch earlier. In September of 2008, Middletown, Ohio woman, Michelle Allen, was arrested for getting in the way of traffic and chasing children while wearing a cow suit. There were also accusations from a neighbor stating that she had urinated on his porch. At the time of her arrest, she was smelling strongly of alcohol, while also threatening the arresting officers. She was charged with one count of disorderly conduct. According to police, this was the 50th time Allen had been arrested. On the following Tuesday, Michelle Allen showed up to court, wearing the very same cow suit, and challenge other people in court to quote suck her utters. Investigators believe that this may have been a promotional stunt for a local haunted trail. As an employee of the trail did come to repossess the cow suit. Whether this was a stunt or not, the charge did land Allen in jail for 30 days, and I don't think we can blame a promotional stunt for the other 49 arrests. So let the story of miss moomoo be the start of a new spooky legend to tell kids around the campfire. Because it's Halloween season, and miss moomoo may just be wandering the streets of Middletown, Ohio right now. Grazing on the souls of those who stay up too late. Miss momos strikes. Yes, if anybody is a listener of our show, miss me when we did come up a couple of weeks ago, in a different way, but we were just so tickled by the name that I had to make a callback to it. Oh, I am obsessed. What a story. Oh my God, I really want to dress as a cow for Halloween now and just tell someone suck my anas. I've got a sheep costume you can wear, but I don't have a kind of one. So if anybody's never listened to us before, we do movie versions basically of stories. So sometimes we will kind of exaggerate things a little bit more to add the drama. But at the end, I always try to do some sort of a recap that explains the truth. Yeah. Nobody called her miss moomoo. I don't know anything about these girls, but I do know that a drunk woman dressed as a cow did chase women, piano porch, and make a fool of herself in traffic. Yeah, yeah, we always tell true stories, but we always say eh, the details may vary here and there. Yeah. We like to have a little bit of fun with our stories. So if you ever need a lighthearted break, we would love for you to jump over to

"Down here down away from Jimbo Han and so we had this big breaking story late tonight where a jury has awarded these two Ohio counties It could be kind of unlimited monies There's no dollar value but it's going to be big if they don't settle against Walmart Walgreens and CVS for saying well they're part of the chain of America's opioid crisis and they knew and they didn't do anything They didn't use anything to do it So talking to the staff here about the film hillbilly elegy Because I think these Ohio counties are where JD Vance comes from and the film if you haven't seen it yet Now look it's not great production value but I was surprised how much they got out of a relatively limited budget Stars Glenn Close and Amy Adams You probably know both of them And I think close was up for best supporting actress I have to look up I don't think she won And there was a lot of back and forth because how he would didn't like this film Because the argument is these are Trump people He's the people voting for Trump Well it showed them warts and all I thought it was very even handed JD Vance grew up in that type of environment Went on the Harvard now running for the Senate in Ohio And he's a very provocative guy the book did incredibly well And these are people that move from the south and they settled in there I think mainly because of auto factory jobs that kind of thing Middletown Ohio I think is one I think it's these two counties that we're dealing with in Ohio that are making national news tonight And the hillbilly title sometimes this has been called hillbilly heroine That we're dealing with Not all but West Virginia was another spot where this was vast And the idea you've heard several people that I think are very articulate that are inside this in some way or another talking about the repercussion of all this is people that are in pain doctors are afraid to prescribe because they're afraid of the overkill of this And I happen to think it's overkill I haven't had a chance to read the whole transcript of this or what the jury was given But the idea that the distributor here these big drugstore chains are responsible I think they're outside that field I can't see it Let's go to Sharon and crane Missouri Hey Sharon how are you Happy Thanksgiving Due to Tom Okay To both of your topics One It is not the pharmacy That are the problem It is our drug laws And the people who need the medication And I have a family member who has a chronic condition with bones like glass that can snap dis brushing up against something And she is not able to get the pain medication that she needs And when she does get it she is given such meniscal amounts that it doesn't do anything to help her Therefore she has no quality of life The whole thing is messed up Now Stephen Colbert Stephen Colbert can afford private security Stephen Colbert talks out of both sides of his mouth And what the progressives are afraid of is guns They don't want anybody to have guns unless they are the government Every time a situation like this happens like happened in waka Shah Gun sales go up Now why is that Because people are afraid Crime rates are rising They don't believe there's any protection out there for them Police officers can not prevent crime most of the time They have to react to exactly and in the town that you mention in Wisconsin they're not voting to let criminals out but the neighboring metropolis of Milwaukee has a guy who routinely let this guy out So those poor people there even though they're against all that they're the victims now with 6 dead Exactly And when you have outside influences like George Soros we have that problem here in Missouri and St. Louis I know you do We're pouring into progressive policies and getting people who are elected who will not give people bail that will keep them in jail until and try and clear out the courts and speedily put people through the court system Then you're going to have people getting out like this This career criminal Who is responsible for 6 people being killed who were trying to just have a good time and celebrate Christmas Well put that in there Thank you Sharon Thank you very much for all that Look here in Philadelphia they're actually running headlines Hey the police have special plans for the Thanksgiving Day parade You don't have to worry You can come A maniac is not going to be able to drive a car through We put garbage trucks blocking streets and all that That's how far it's come And I can't blame the people there They're voting patterns in those towns I don't think they're voting for the guy or people like the guy in Milwaukee Who let this guy go through his minions Several times You know what the result is What does he think I can mow people down What's the big deal All righty 8 6 6 50 Jimbo That gets you.

How are you going to be doing great. I'm giddy. I've got my coffee. It's O dark 30, and you have a really moving article about. It's titled It's on the Washington Examiner style to labor dispute in which no one can win in which, uh, very skilled workers at about nine or 10. Plants for a a technical steel company, not just raw steel, but they make very technical steel products are on strike over preserving medical benefits, and this has been going on for almost 90 days. No one's winning this And the Biden administration is just ignoring it. Yeah, It's really kind of stunning. So the striking against at as you pointed out precision Steel, um, plants they make very specialty steels feel that goes into Things like all clad, um um, cookery, but they also were on emergency around the clock. Production of the respirators during Covid, Uh, you know, so so these guys make the stuff that we need in a better way of putting it. And they haven't had a I Raised in seven years. They make a good salary, but they're really sort of heart of this. Of US strike is over the new hires coming in and getting different benefits and you say, Well, you know, Okay. Why is that a big deal? Well, you know, these are He's a tough jobs and you're working side by side. It creates this really terrible tension. When the you know men and women that work beside each other skilled artisans, skilled laborers, and they're making different amounts of money. And so they want to make sure that that doesn't happen. That is not. It's not even about his salary. It's about having the same tier system. Um, where, you know, in the health care and what I think I find so incredibly interesting is that during the campaign The Biden secured the support the endorsement from the United Steelworkers leadership and everywhere you was every event that he had. Had steelworkers behind right there used as a prop. But Biden both Biden and Harris in particular Herod, who was just here a couple days ago. None of them has met with any members of the steel workers to to either given support. And or listen to them. Or even try to comprehend there will what their problem? Well, Salina Zito Is there an opportunity here for Republicans to come in? Because I look at this and I, You know, I would think that guy like I don't know. Donald Trump was still in office. He could call up the T had our CEO He could call it. The head of the unit said, Come on into the White House. Let me Let's work together and get this result because these two groups seemed to me natural components of the kind of coalition that conservatives are trying to build. If they are absolutely they're definitely part of the coalition that that the populist coalition that came together and and put trump in office and there No part of this conservative populist coalition that is still going on today. You know, I have argued forever in a day that they came before Trump. He was the result of them. He didn't cause them. And and you know, there there are, um Senators, I suppose, you know, local Republicans have come and sat with them, but they don't have the power or the cash ace that Biden would have in in in sort of as you put it. Cause the tube business to pull the heads together. Knock them around a little say Okay, let's figure this out, you guys well, Selina, we've got about one minute. Yet. Time flies when you're having fun in the New York Post, you have an article How liberals turned on J. D. Vance working class author of Hillbilly Elegy. We only have about 30 seconds. What happened? I thought I I thought he was The bridge, which would allow our coastal concern our coastal elite to understand what was happening in mid America, and then when he came out as what he is kind of a traditional American populist They've recoiled in horror. Oh, yeah, he when he was one of them right because you made it to Yale, and then all of a sudden they want nothing to do with him when they found that when they understood he is a conservative populist, And he rolls out this week in his Middletown, Ohio, that he's going to run for us Senate and I think he's going to.

"And some plain gave rise to the candidacy in the election of Donald Trump. 2016 J. D. Vance was born in Middletown, Ohio, in the heart of the Rust Belt. His parents struggled days. His mother, Bev van struggled with addiction alcohol than drugs. His parents split up. Yeah, largely raised by a grand parent who did obviously great job and her efforts he ended up describing his upcoming upbringing is Hillbillies, white working class, no education beyond secondary school and mostly Scots and Irish descent. They were proud and very clannish and occasionally violent. Aspiration was rare addiction increasingly too prescriptive drugs was very commonplace, but somehow he broke out. Enrolled and succeeded at Yale Law School. He met one of his mentors their law professor and author of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. And When I was a mentor, he eventually married a woman that he clerked for the U. S. Supreme Court. I became a venture capitalist in California that worked his way back to Ohio and hillbilly Elegy one a rave reviews and had a bunch of pieces put together by the mainstream media describing how Donald Trump was able to connect with white working class individuals. He was not himself a Trump loyalist, but he understood the reasons for his rise, but criticized his policies on race and immigration in particular. And some Republican strategists have said that he is the future of the Republican Party because of classing white working class Americans that are struggling, and I heard him give an interview it. Tucker crawls in a one point Mathematically, the greatest number of poor people in America are white. And that kind of runs against the counter notion of white supremacy and what and also all kinds of racism practiced by whites because the majority of Americans are white, so maybe that deals more with behavior than anything else. And J. D. Vance. Welcome. I think for the second time to the Bill Cunningham Show and J D. How are you? Had good bill. How you doing? Good, good. Good. Let's talk. First of all about your upbringing, which I touched on and that largely defined your life and maybe a reason in Ohio for your candidacy next year. For the United States Senate. This is largely Ohio is largely a trump state. But you spent quite a bit of time in California. So kind of give the American people the highlights of your life that brought you to this moment. And why you think you could capture the idea of the American ideal? The American promise for all Americans? Yeah. Yes, The reversion Billa's group Middletown, Ohio, which is about 45 minutes where I went down in Cincinnati, Ohio. No, you are just across the river from each other. Him your middle pounds of classic working class steel town so he will not grandfather worked there on the fifties sixties and seventies that about 10,000 employees now has about 1400 employees and Like a lot of places have seen a decline in that industrial base, which of course is caused it would decline in some of the other things that the stable family lives. You've seen the drugs moving and response to it. Law enforcement get over stressed by that and what really made my life work out, Okay, despite the fact that I was in a pretty chaotic environment there, So my mom arrested when I was 12 years old for the first time is that my grandparent's really saved me. So my grandma and been grandfather called Obama on Pap all like a lot of Southeastern Kentucky and that we came from they took me into their home and gave me a stable loving environment in my grandma was pretty tough, Sheer 19 handguns When she died, all of them were were loaded and was stashed around the house so that you could reach them if an intruder ever came into out because you couldn't get around that easily. Being She was sort of person, and when she found out that I was hanging around with the bad kids in the neighborhood, she said, Look, we need to find some better friends. I'm gonna run over this kid you're hanging out with and nobody's ever gonna find out about it. And that discipline in that love and structure. It gave me the opportunities that I have made my life turn into something, and so you went from there and listen to Marine Corps 2003. You served. Four years of the Marine Corps went to Iraq once went from there to Ohio State from Ohio State D a law school then, like you mentioned, lived in California for a few years, working in the technology industry and then Move back to Cincinnati a few years ago to watch my own thing. So you have had had this incredible this incredible American Dream story. And one of things I worry about is that stories like minor increasingly in common, and then, unfortunately, ah, lot of the institution that our country they're supposed to work to make it easier for kids to have a good life don't work in the same way and A lot of even the big companies just to take one example that 30 40 years ago. You to see these companies are patriotic. They care about the country. They're investing in their country. Increasingly, that make it impossible for people to even speak their mind or live their American dream. And I think we've got On the Republican side in our country, a real problem where these countries have increasingly turned against not just the American dream In the material sense. They don't believe in it. But they've also turned against their own country and cultural sense and made it harder for people to live their values and speak their mind and We've got to deal with all this, and you've kind of dealt with the cancer culture. I've read some stuff on Emma's and MSNBC about you sending some information out on social media about maybe the ideas that Joe Biden to pay for baby sitting man up a good idea. And then also you had some backlash. On your film played by Glenn Close, which I thought should have won her best actress, hillbilly elegy and it didn't It didn't get good reviews because the left didn't like the idea that I was working class kid could come out of that environment and so describe the cancer culture and you were a favorite of 2016 with the media Now you on the other side. Why That's right. Well, I mean, I think part of it is that I came around to Donald Trump and started to see the real value in him. And because of that, I think a lot of people pushed pushed against me and decided that I was on the wrong team. I think a lot of it is just in 2016 were at least comfortable with the idea idea. Get a working class white family could struggle in this country. And now in 2020 the idea that if you're white You're privileged and people don't really care about your problems and your concerns and your your your your issues. There's just this assumption that everybody who comes from a particular racial background is privileged and everybody who comes from the other background is underprivileged. In our country just isn't willing, really willing to look beneath the skin and actually asked what's going on in people's lives. I think there's some backlash because of that. I also think you know, frankly, um, that one of the things that people have realized about me is that I'm willing to call things out that I don't I don't think you're right. And you mention this Biden daycare proposal. I think it's a disaster because what would also we do? It's forced a lot of people to put their kids in day care even when they wouldn't want to put their kids in daycare. I think we should get parents options. I think it's ridiculous that there is not an alternative proposal that says Look, if you want to raise your kids at home. If you want to raise your kids with the help from grand parents or.

"On welcome to the finals. I'm your hostess. fiorella nash. Sometimes known by nolanda plume fiorella maria. I'm a writer of crime. Fiction and historical novels and an incorrigible bibliophile. It's wonderful it's be making a program on pretty much. My favorite subjects books on my show will be introducing you to books classic and contemporary. You must read should enjoy reading or should not touch with an eleven foot barge pole. Once a month. I will say be doing my special edition. Children's book show involving younger reviews talking about an sharing their favorite books. I have a book to share with you today. That i have to admit took me about as far out of my comfort zone as is humanly possible and i read this book about three months ago. In fact it's taken me this long to pluck up the courage to review it. And you'll soon see why. This book is a memoir about life in rural ohio cooled hillbilly eligibility and even the title feels very very foreign to me. And i'm just very aware that this memoir deals with a culture associated economic situation and an entire way of life. That is completely alien to me. It is very very different to my own. I grew up in rural england. But it's nothing like life in rural ohio completely aware of that. There are very very few similarities. Normally when i read a memoir even if it's about a very different time very different place. I can say. Oh yes. I really relate to this relate to that when i was reading sleigh in your lane it was about the black british experienced but there were still some things in that. That really made a lot of sense to me that i could really relate to but this is a world that feels very very distant and i would like to say immediately. I am very sorry if i make mistakes or if i make judgments or generalizations. I shouldn't make. I have no business to make in any blunders. I make during this review are entirely without malice. I assure you. And i just want to make that clear before i go any further. What interested me about the book. I saw that there had been an adaptation of it on netflix. Which i didn't want to watch. Because i would rather read a book i if possible and then what adaptation having read the book. I'm not sure. I can actually face watching adaptation because i think it must be incredibly harrowing but maybe when i'm feeling a bit emotionally stronger after knockdowns ended a revisits option. I'll begin with the author. Because this is a memoir. It is mostly about the author. But it's worth getting a few little details in. I just to prepare yourself for what you can expect apologies. If you hear my dog walking in the background. He's very cold and very fed up. I know the feeling. Jd fans is a thirty six year old author and lawyer who is primarily known for this book. This was his first book. I don't know if there will be more. But because it is primarily a memoir of growing up in extreme poverty. The book and the author himself has been seen something of a window into the life of white working class. Men in the states of you. That has also been questions but one detail about him. I won't talk a lot about his upbringing. Because that's what the book is about but one thing that will not be clear in the book because it happened after the publication of the book is that. He's a convict catholicism. He converted in august one thousand nine hundred nineteen because he became persuaded overtime. That catholicism was true. And i found that very interesting as a footnote or the completion of the author spiritual journey because religion does come into his experience and his writing but quite tangentially. His grandmother was very against religion organized. Religion she wanted to pray and things like that but she said no not go anywhere near churches. They're greedy off to your money or their perverts. So that obsessed with power. What habit a very negative view of furniture and so i found it interesting that he sort of emerged through that into the catholic faith and part of me hopes he might write a sequel to this memoir just talking about his spiritual journey a genuine even very interested to know how he got that the memoir is a very candid and uncompromising reflection as the word allergy rather suggests of growing up in middletown ohio with family from kentucky and he is mostly talking about his kentucky family's values the appalachian values that they held he particularly talks about his grandparents. Who are very very significant in his life. His family was virtually torn apart by poverty by marital break up substance abuse. His mother struggled on and on for years with drug addiction which got her fired from jobs that pushed her into a cycle of ever-greater poverty which in turn fed the addiction problem..
