"Our library. But we wanted to do something really special with it. We just didn't want to put the image of the card up. So we created actually an experience around it that celebrated Mickey Mantle's history. You know, there's a video that takes you through a journey of his time at the Yankees. The other thing we want to do is we try to enhance it with some things that are super special. That only a collector can have. And so we actually asked the mantles, is there anything letters, anything that we could, you know, trophies that we could digitize and add to this NFT that would be very special. And we didn't find anything that really worked, but we did ask them, hey, do you think we could include a 30 minute interview with Mickey Mantle sons? You guys, just to talk about your father and they agreed to that. So we think that that's very special. The winner of the auction hasn't called us yet on that, but we're everybody's ready to do it. The other thing we had to figure out is where to launch it, which blockchain. You know, we could have done it on our platform, but we decided to go on open sea. And the reason is they have a really, you know, we wanted to do an auction and they have a very good auction system. It's also home to some of the biggest collectors out there, the biggest whales that have a lot of eth. It could really lean into this auction. So we decided to work with them and they were a fantastic partner, but we had to do a lot there, set up our accounts, write the smart contracts, you know, figure out a bunch of things. So there were some work there, but they were terrific partners. So a lot of different things had to kind of come together. And we had to get the mammals approval too and everything we were doing. So it was a process and a journey. The team did an amazing job and we were kind of very happy with how it turned out. Well, I'm curious, did Tobin mention anything else about the future? I mean, this is the first iconic one of one NFT for nearly half a $1 million. It's probably one of the most expensive sports NFTs to ever sell at auction. So, I mean, what's next, right? You and Steve joked at the end of your conversation about a Hank Aaron rookie card, might that be possible? Hey, who knows? I mean, it sounds like this is only the beginning because I did ask Tobin if we may see future special NFTs like this one and his answer. Absolutely. This is something that we're building under that brand I mentioned the top timeless brand. And there's just some really special cards in our library and we're excited to be able to share those in different ways with collectors. Well, Mike, fascinating story and I'm sorry you didn't get the NFT you wanted. Well, I didn't, but we did get something else. And we didn't even have to spend a dime on it. What's that? Well, a couple of weeks after the auction Topps digital announced that any person who made a qualifying bid in the Mickey Mantle NFT auction over a certain amount, they would be airdropped a special NFT, a Po AP a proof of attendance protocol NFT. Basically, it's a special kind of NFT that just sort of proves that you are part of some sort of event. That's really cool. And so you guys got one. Yeah, yeah, and actually, we're one of only four people in the world to have one. I think there were a couple dozen qualifying bids, but only me and three others actually claimed the NFT. And here it is, actually. It reads. This event exclusive NFT celebrates participants in the memorable one of one tops 1952 Mickey Mantle card NFT auction, which took place March 1st through March 4th, 2022. The tops 1952 Mickey Mantle card continues to be one of the world's most coveted vintage relics and now through tops timeless has been reimagined as a first of its kind NFT digital collectible. So in a way, you and Steve do have a Mickey Mantle NFT. Well, more like a Mickey Mantle auction NFT, sort of like a ticket stub to the event, but hey, we're just one of four people in the world to have it, and it didn't even cost anything to win it really. So it's something, right? It sure is something, right? It's the newest digital addition to your sports collection. Well, I'm happy to have it. And that's the story. So I was excited to share all this with everybody. I wish it was a different result, but we're in a good place. And really, we're almost going to be wrapping up this season of web three. I mean, we're going to be wrapping it up next week. We've got one more story, but more on that next week. For Mike belsito, I'm Michael soka and this is rocket ship FM. So long. "Far as and not and not take a shot. All right, well, if the Hank Aaron rookie NFT comes up, I'm gonna give you a call. Maybe we'll have a better chance at that one. Okay, I'll root for it. So you and Steve, you swung and you missed. Yeah. Big time. We were not the winners of the auction. Our max bit of $60,000 that fell well short of the nearly half $1 million winning bid. And I don't know. Maybe we should have known that we didn't have a real shot at it, but there was this period of time for like 30 seconds with 45 minutes left where we can say we were actually the high bidders. Yeah, hey, that's kind of cool. You were part of this historic day if nothing else. It like Steve said, at least you tried, right? So who actually won the auction? That's actually a really good question. In the weeks after the auction ended, I actually got to catch up with Tobin lent. Now Tobin is the vice president and global general manager of digital for the Topps company. He's basically the architect behind this entire project. And not even Tobin knew who the real winner was quite yet. We don't know who it is. We know the wallet, which consisted of a name with numbers and letters. But we never found the person. We actually found the runner up on Twitter. She was using an actual name or could be he who knows. And we actually converse. We are rooting for that. We were rooting for both people. It was kind of fun when we got down to those last two bidders and they were trying to outdo each other. You could actually check to see how much eth they had in their wallet. Oh my gosh, they're up against their limit already. It was exciting. I think that if we do this again, we're going to do some kind of a play by play, because it was a lot of fun. We had a blast. We were all together on a Zoom call, kind of watching this unfold. And it was an exciting event really. But yeah, we don't know who that person is. They bought it and moved it to another wallet. And it's been silenced since that. That's wild. You lost out to a mystery bidder of sorts, I guess. But hey, you got to talk with Tobin. That's great. What else did he say? Yeah, yeah, it was actually very cool catching up at Tobin. He had a lot more context about the project. In fact, here he is talking about some of the background work that they had to do in the lead up to the auction. Yeah, we had a lot to figure out. You know, one of the things we had to figure out is what exactly we were going to do. I mean, we could have gone for.

"To find out what it's all about. Okay, so I am going to bring this up, but I wish we had a ton of time to research this, but so this auction is live. It ends tomorrow. It's at $6000 right now. Like, how much do you think that it would actually? I just, I was trying to think when I saw this, I thought of you, 'cause you're the one that got me into rekindling with some of my sports card interests recently and helped me help me get a Jim Brown rookie and a Babe Ruth card and but like something like this, I have no only one of them that's going to be made. So I have no concept yet. I'm intrigued by NFTs. I know you're intrigued with like sports collectibles. Yeah, like is this something, is this something worth bidding on? I just am trying to think about. Yeah, I mean, here's the thing. I don't know enough about NFTs. I do know about collectability and things. And I do know, obviously everyone knows that card. So first things first is people are going to recognize that. Whatever, whether just to know about it, they're going to be curious. I don't know what something like this would be worth. I do know the tangible version of it, what it's worth, approximately. You're looking at if it was in like a ten there's one of three PSA ten, so the highest graded one, you're looking at 25, maybe $30 million estimate out there. I mean, a 9 did 5 million a few years ago before COVID. That would be like just like a junk version of the card, like how much, how much is the lowest grade of Mickey Mantle you could get? Well, one thing I always look at is the cost to own. So the cost to own the card and whatever grade if your dog chewed on it would still cost you about 30, $40,000, somewhere around there. Now an NFT version, I don't even know where to go with it, but I do think, you know, if someone, I do know this about NFTs, there are a lot of people getting into it. There's a lot of money being thrown around. There's a lot of big companies making metaverses to basically house their NFTs. If this becomes something big, you're going to want to own this. Or at least I would think want to know who owns it. The question is, what is it worth? And what it can be worth, that's going to be the big question. So all right, I'm going to run something by you. I need to talk to Hannah about this too. I don't know if I don't know if I'm going to get buy in, but I have some crypto. Set aside. A good amount of crypto. And NFTs are kind of like the way I'm thinking about it. It's like moving from one crypto to another crypto. Now that it's a cryptocurrency, but this is a long way of saying, would you maybe want to team up and try to bid on this thing? I don't even know if it's worth bidding on and we could talk about it, but that's what I was, I don't know, what do you think? Yeah, something that could be interested. But my first question would be how I don't know anything about where it's even being auctioned or how to bid on it. I don't have any crypto. Period. Well, all right, so basically, yeah, this kind of complicated. It's not like it's just up on some, it's not on eBay. So it's on open sea. It looks like Topps worked with open sea. Open seas basically like the eBay for NFTs kind of. It's a platform that a lot of projects get launched on. But it's also like an open market. So they're minting it. There's only one of them. And it's going to be on open sea. So to bid on it, basically you have to have, you have to have crypto. Specifically ether. You have to have some ether probably a lot of it. You also have to have a crypto wallet and set up a crypto wallet. It sounds like you have none of those things right. I have none of those things for sure. All right, I have those things, though. So I mean, I don't know how much we would need. I mean, I do have some crypto. I have a crypto wallet. I mean, theoretically, if we were to figure out how much to bid, you know, you could give me money and I could bid on it. On behalf of both of us, we could kind of be like 50 50 in on it. I mean, if you want to think of it that way, I'd be interested for sure. The question is how much? How much are you willing to risk for something like this? Okay, wait, let's pause here. You're basically proposing to Steve that you go in on bidding this Mickey Mantle NFT as a 50 50 partner. Yeah, potentially. I mean, if my wife Hannah was cool with it, of course, I still needed to talk to her about all of this at this point, but I don't know. I saw this as a unique opportunity. And yeah, definitely a risky one, but I figured the crypto that I owned at that point, it could easily just go down at any point. And sure enough, it actually did go down a lot ever since this conversation with Steve. I think my crypto holdings are down by like what, 25% since March, when I had Steve over my house, but yeah, this Mickey Mantle NFT, it could be risky, but I also saw it as something that could have the potential of, I don't know, maybe even ten xing in a year if we got it at the right price. Fascinating. Okay, so back to your conversation with Steve. You asked him if he'd go into this 50 50 with you and his answer was. All right, so it's at like $6000 right now. It ends tomorrow. First of all, when you're bidding on stuff like sports cards on eBay, like 24 hours, it feels like it's a short time, but actually it's probably like obviously $6000, probably nowhere close to what the price is gonna be is it. Probably not. I mean, at 6000, but I don't know. I mean, there's no market for this right now. So that's like anything with even with sports cards when you're dealing with a one of one of something. You really don't know what it could go for. All you need is a couple of people that really want it and it can go bananas. When you said the PSA ten, so it's like the graded card of Mickey Mantle, like the mint condition, it's as good as it can get. How many were there? There's three. So there's three and how much do you like if that were to sell today? What would you think that would go for? I mean, around 25 million, I had a guesstimate, but who knows? So I guess that's a question, right? So there's only one of these and so it's like, do people compare it to that? Where they're like, well, there's three of those and it's worth tens of millions of dollars, but there's only one of these, so like that logic would say it should be worth a lot more. But at the end of the day, it's not the, it's not the physical cardboard and hand. So how much is it you said the cost to own a mantle rookie is how much again? Probably about 30, 40,000. Something like that. So all right, so I wonder if I want, yeah, like part of me is wondering, is it possible that some people might make the case like, well, gosh, I'm willing to pay as much as what it would cost to own a real physical Mickey Mantle. Like, I feel like that'd be the basement floor, right? Like maybe I have no, I have no concept either, but I'm just curious if the cost of real physical graded Mickey Mantle's 30, $40,000, maybe that's maybe.

"Future. That's the number four cards for the future. But his collection today, I mean, it's hard to say exactly what it be worth because, you know, these things go up and down too, just like stock and crypto, but it might have crossed the 7 figure range at this point. Wow, that's wild. Yeah, yeah, now just before the tops Mickey Mantle NFT auction open sea. I mean, like literally a day before the auction ended, Steve came over to my house to hang out for a bit. And he brought some of his cards with him. So I see a card over there. I see Mickey Mantle autograph. Is that legit? Yep. I got Mickey Mantle. So this is probably one of the first triple autos back in 1992 score came out with Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, and Carly just scram ski, probably three of the greatest hitters of all time. The fact that this came in a pack from 1992 is just mind-blowing to me. This is like 1992 score. All right, I'm not a giant collector now, but I was not a big deal back then. Like 92 score was not loaded with amazing cards, right? No, I can't even think of who are the key rookies in 92. I don't even know. 1990 would you, Thomas, 92? I can't think of one. I can't. Probably a quarter of a pack, probably one in a bajillion packs. I don't even know. I don't even think they list the odds for something like this. It is serial numbered. There's only 500 that exist. So it is something I always wanted as a kid, actually, and just got it recently. All right, that sounds like a really cool car. Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Carl Easter and ski, and it's signed by all three. Yeah, and it's a card that Steve always wanted as a kid. And now he's got one. And I can relate to that feeling of always wanting a certain card as a kid and sort of dreaming about it. Actually, Steve sort of got me back into collecting like a year ago and I am nowhere close to the level of a collector that Steve is, but he gave me some guidance and acquiring a few cards that I always wanted, including my first ever Babe Ruth training card. It's a 1933 gooty Babe Ruth that I always wanted it as a kid and now I have it. Really, I never realized you had a Babe Ruth card. That's pretty awesome. Yeah, yeah, I am pretty pumped having it. But that Mickey Mantle card that Steve had. It wasn't even the most impressive card, believe it or not. He brought over to my house, his Holy Grail card, so to speak. And actually, he has doubles. Probably my Holy Grail and it's probably one that's getting a lot of attention lately is Tom Brady, of course he's getting a lot of attention in the news. Obviously being back from retirement lasted a total of 40 days. Something like that. He is, I got in my hand from 2002, his tops, Super Bowl. It's from his first Super Bowl. It's a piece of the game used ball. And then it's autographed and it's actually hand numbered out of one 50. And this game actually out of a tops pack, believe it or not. That's great. So do I remember it? You have, you've got doubles of that card. I do have two of it. I have both of them that I was pretty particular on the logos. So this one actually has writing on it. The other one actually has a piece of the Wilson ball. Where he would actually grip weird grip at. So kind of a nice little memento I'd say. Since you got doubles, you could just give one to me, right? Sure, just transfer a lot of money and I'll be all right with that. Transfer over a lot of money, how much money would you need to transfer over for one of those Tom Brady's? Well, okay, one of the cards that Steve has is in better condition and is more desirable than the other, but Michael, the better of the two, if he sold it at auction today, it would probably go for hundreds of thousands of dollars. He's already had offers well into 6 figures from private collectors. It's a card that could very well be worth over a $1 million at some point soon. Tom Brady, really? I don't know. That's wild. Yes, but then I brought up the topic with Steve that was on my mind ever since I knew he was coming over. All right, first, how much do you know about NFTs? Steve's answer to that question and more on this entire Mickey Mantle NFT saga after a short break. You made it. Checked out of office to check into the sweet views of this place where the kids aren't asking for the Wi-Fi. Mom, can we go to the pool? And when you're with AmEx, it's not if it's going to happen. And we met your buddy Steve, a lifelong friend of yours, who is a serious sports collector. Yes, right before the break, I asked Steve, how much he knew about NFTs. And I'm gonna play the conversation that we had after I asked that question. See, I had mics set up during Steve's visit because I knew we were working on this season all about web three and I had a feeling that this conversation, I don't know, maybe we turn it into a part of an episode or multiple episodes or I don't know, I had no idea. I just knew there might be something there. And sure enough, here we are. With the rest of the story. All right, well, back to your question with Steve, you asked him how much he knew about NFTs and his answer was. Absolutely not. I mean, I'm trying to learn about him. I'd say I know a little bit. All right, so this is what I wanted to talk to you about. You know, aside from hanging out and getting to see your collection. So tops, which actually that Tom Brady card you had, that was from tops, you know, top is one of the most iconic sports card brands. They just launched a new NFT project with Mickey Mantle, or at least the mantle family. Had you heard anything about that yet? I heard a little bit. I don't, I don't know what I think about it yet. I will say, though, I mean, if it's coming from tops and one of the most iconic cards that anybody could recognize that card, I'm truly interested.

"So you try spending your life savings on an NFT, am I understanding that right? Well, now my entire life savings, but I don't know is it an amount that if it went away overnight, I wouldn't be broke, but it would definitely be sting. I definitely would lose a few nights of sleep over it. But not one where I'd have to sell my house or deplete the kids college funds or anything like that. I mean, just as an aside, I would never recommend anybody takes it to that level, so please rocket ship listeners don't do that, agreed. Agreed on that. And this is not financial advice. And be responsible when you're considering investing in things like NFTs. Because honestly, you should never commit more than you're willing to lose because it's risky stuff as we've learned and we're going to learn. And you knew about that risk. You did your research before getting into all this, right, Mike. I did relatively speaking, Michael, but yes, I did. But nevertheless, I gave it a shot. Okay, so let's back up. When you say you gave it a shot, you should probably explain what we mean by that. Yeah, right. Okay, well, back in February, the Topps company, which is one of the most iconic sports collectible brands in the world. They announced a very special project. They would be releasing a one of one NFT of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card. Okay, so this is a baseball card as an NFT. But not just any baseball card Michael. I mean, the Mickey Mantle rookie card 1952 tops. It's like the Holy Grail baseball cards. It's one of the cards that, as a kid, I always dreamed about having. I mean, I can literally see the image in my head right now. A young Mickey Mantle, glancing over his right shoulder where a yellow bat is resting, blue sky in the background, his name and a reproduction of his signature print right on the front. I mean, this card is iconic to collectors. And now, tops would be making NFTs of it. Top should we be making one NFT event through its tops, timeless collection, and they'd be auctioning it off through open sea. It would be a true one of one, meaning only one person in the entire world would own the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie NFT. Here are Mickey Mantle's sons, Danny and David, talking about how iconic their father's rookie baseball card was. And what it meant to them now that it would be digitized in the special auction through tops. This is actually coming from the Topps digital YouTube channel. Unbelievable, the popularity of it. I mean, from really, I guess, from day one, but you know, as the baseball card took off, you know, dad was like the number one forever, and it still is number one to me. So I think a lot of people still look that way at it. And doing this NFT, it's just going to be, you know, it's going to be a home run. You know, that's just a long time for one card to be able to keep that kind of audience for this long, you know, and I just, I'm really proud of it, you know, and what makes it even fun or his dad was really proud of it. You know, he loved it when they would talk about that car. Tell you what, me. I thought everybody saw it, but you know, when I wrote a message back to Daniel, I said, you know, I teared up. I mean, it made me very proud of, you know, just the build up and everything for me, you know, the first time I saw the video, it was just, you know, it was very powerful, you know, with the music they have included in it. Yes, the cards, you know, how it opens up and they've got the cards laying on the table. It's just, you know, brings back so many memories from obviously childhood. And so it makes us very proud of our dad and I just know that, you know, people love those cards and I don't think anything will ever change that. I'm glad Topps is the first one doing it. I said, this is where it all began. And so now the NFT, this is where it's beginning again. That's really cool. So it seems like tops work directly with the mantle family are this project, right? Yeah, they did. And not only did they get the blessing from the mantle family, but the winner of the NFT, they'd actually get the opportunity to meet his sons, David and Danny mantle, virtually anyway. They'd have a video chat with them, which that's a pretty cool experience, right? It is. It is so what were the details? How was this all going to happen? Okay, well, Topps digital partnered with open sea and beginning this past March 1st, anybody would have a chance to bid on this one of one Mickey Mantle NFT with the auction ending at 1 p.m. eastern on March 4th. The NFT would be minted as an ERC 7 21 token. And it would include a recreation of the classic Topps baseball card of Mickey Mantle, complete with video of historical imagery and memorabilia that showcases and celebrates Mickey Mantle's legacy. And this would be tops first foray into the NFTs. Well, actually no. I mean, so Topps has been at it for a while. But Topps is obviously not a web three first company. I mean, for those that aren't familiar, tops actually started as the Topps chewing gum company back in 1947. But it introduced baseball cards in 1951 as almost a playing card kind of game, but it was 1952 when it released what became a truly iconic set of baseball cards, which included players like Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Eddie Matthews, and yes, Mickey Mantle. Now, fast forward to 2012, Topps started this division called tops digital. 2012, right? That's two years before the first ever NFT quantum was ever sold, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, so this was pre NFT, really. But Topps released an app called Topps bunt and released digital collectibles through that tops bunt app. And this led to the kick soccer app, huddle, football app, and other products. And now they weren't technically NFTs as they weren't on the blockchain, but in 2020, Topps released a product line that was on the blockchain. They weren't baseball cards initially. They were garbage pail kids cards. Do you remember those Michael from back in the day? Oh, yeah. Oh yeah, the cards would feature. I don't know, kind of crude, disgusting art. But, you know, as a kid, it was a lot of fun. Baby eating is boogers and stuff. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Anyway, they continue to introduce their sports brands into the NFT space, but this Mickey Mantle 1952 tops NFT. This would be the very first time that they would release a special one of one sort of iconic NFT like this. So you learned about this project and you just knew you had to get in on it. Well, not like immediately. I mean, when I learned about the project though, somebody specific came in mind, who's that? My buddy Steve, your buddy, Steve. Yes, Steve is actually who I got into sports card collecting with back when I was like, I don't know, ten, maybe. We would go to sports card shows together, but I mean, I don't remember one time, we actually set up as a vendor at a sports card show, selling our own cards. I think we were teenagers at that point. I remember putting on sports card sales in my garage. We would literally print flyers and convince the local video rental shop to let us promote the sports card sale we would have with these hand drawn flyers. That's actually out of adorable. Isn't it though? Is it a thigh? I could see my son and daughter doing something like that, but totally. I don't know, I had a lot of great memories of collecting and most of those memories were with Steve. Anyway, after high school and college, I honestly kind of lost interest in collecting all of my cards just sort of wedded hibernation in my attic, but Steve never really stopped collecting. "Saint louis hot and this is the time to get hot in it really is and because this is the time to get out of. There is no reason at my mind. That i don't think that How hot they been that. Saint louis i don't see anybody really stop and saint louis right now unless they're able or unless In less for the reds or padres or even philadelphia phillies sake. Somebody comes in with a buzzsaw to the saint. Louis cardinals team. Who's red high right now. They're seventy eight and sixty nine twelve and a half games back at a first. Their elimination number is three and they do hold that. Second wildcard spot right now. They're nine and one out of their last ten and they've won seven in

"Been a while since we've talked about standings and lot more teams have actually clinched a division title now Or not not a division title necessarily but playoff spots for shirt for example the san francisco giants and the los angeles dodgers are both in the playoffs for sure. They both have clinched a playoff spot That means san diego. Colorado and arizona have all been eliminated from the content. but we're still going for condition for the division. i should say. But i'm still gonna talk about them Right now so arizona. There forty eight and one hundred on the season as of nine nineteen they are forty eight and a half games back out of first place in thirty and a half games out of the wild card. There's three and seven out of their last hand. They did win their most recent. But they're in a series against houston right now at houston. It's going to be hard to actually It's it's really hard to win at houston anyway and i mean even even when you are when you're a team that's won twenty road games on the year Colorado they are seventy and seventy eight right now in fourth place. Twenty six and a half out of i. Eight and a half out of the wildcard. They're seven and three out of their last ten and they've actually won five in a row. Learn a series right now against washington and they are like. I said eliminated as well now. Sandiego has been eliminated as well They were doing so well for so long. So were the mets. But it doesn't look like it's going to be either of those guys either of those guys other of those teams making any kind of a playoff spot right now. Sandiego right now is only two and a half games back out of first place with a record of seventy six and seventy two there. Twenty out of i and two and a half out of the wild card unfortunately and they are three and seven out of their last ten. They've lost two in a row. And i don't know what it was about. I haven't read the story yet or seen the video. But i do guess. I did see like a notification on my phone that said something along the lines of fernando. Tat's he's junior. And manny machado getting into it in the dugout which gives me bryce harper and jonathan palpable in vibes from a few years ago. Right now though in the second place out in the no west is the los angeles dodgers there ninety five and fifty four two games back at a first place. Their twelve games away from being eliminated their magic number is twelve and they're up sixteen games right now on the number two team in the wild card and we'll get to them in just a second they're seven and three out of first place. They have when their most reason game in there in a series against cincinnati who was able to steal one from the dodgers. Just this on Beginning of the series on friday days to a fantastic performance. Pitch by louis castio. He did not give up any runs. I believe in his outing and struck out ten. As opposed to walk bueller kind of getting roughed up a little bit by cincinnati's offense so while if you are cincinnati fan. We'll talk about. We'll talk about the nfl central here just a second But if you are a cincinnati fan. There's some really good news in that because that means you can. If you get there you can beat the dodgers. That's what that means you. If you guys are if this team is on their a game and they get into year at the end of the season right here they will absolutely be able to handle a game with the dodgers. I think and i would not be surprised. If if i were a betting man i might put money on the reds to upset. The dodgers should the reds make the playoffs but right now. San francisco's were. We're gonna finish up in analyst there in first place ninety seven fifty two. They're going to win well over one hundred games this year. It's fantastic there. Eighty two or eighty two out of their last ten. Like i said they're magic number for the division is twelve games and they have won two zero against atlanta. Who's doing very well in this last stretch of the season now going onto the central. The milwaukee brewers have clinched a playoff spot. Now whether that is a division spot is or a wildcard spot. It is still to be determined. But it's not very Likely that milwaukee will not win this division. Their magic number currently is three and to the second place team in the division but right now in in the seller is the pittsburgh pirates their fifty six ninety two thirty five games out of first place. Twenty two and a half out of the wildcard. Excuse me there. Seven three out of their last ten games in a row and they are in a series at miami right. Now they're going for the sweep to eliminate the marlins officially from contention In the playoffs this year the pittsburgh pirates right now are sorry. The chicago cubs right now are sixty six and eighty three. They're twenty five and a half out of first place and thirteen games out of the wildcard there too and out of their last ten but they have lost four games in a robe. Unfortunately right now. They're also in a series against milwaukee which does not bode well for the cubs in third place is a bit of a surprise to mean it's the cincinnati reds. They're of struggling lately. They're four and six out of their last ten. They are above five hundred. They are seventy seven and seventy two right now and they have officially been eliminated from contention of winning the division but they are only two games back right now of the second wildcard spot and that gives them a half game advantage on the other two The other the two closest i should say following the cincinnati reds the reds. Right now on the outside looking. In by two games the other two closest are the philadelphia phillies and the san diego. Padres at two and a half games right now so i think i really think if the reds can pick up a huge win tomorrow i should say today against the dodgers amazingly well for them but san diego is not playing well in saint louis hot and this is the time to get hot in it really is and because this is the time to get out of. There is no reason at my mind..

"So far with mary. Field in fourth place with one hundred seventy followed by trae turner boba shut who were tied for second place with one hundred and seventy two and then guerrero junior takes the cake with one hundred seventy five hits now. I don't know if If you guys have been picking up on some of the things that i've been saying but vladimir guerrero junior is higher in almost every every statistical category than or higher than shohei otani in almost every statistical batting category i. It's it's kind of impressive. actually I mean for totti's as the least amount of bat like at-bat per home run. He has ten a ten point. Nine five at bats per home run joe. Hitani is just edging out vladimir guerrero junior even though vladimir guerrero junior has almost fifty more at bats shohei. It's obvious still does technically lead him at bats per home runs with an eleven point two seven and vladimir guerrero junior is eleven point. Nine six but i mean. It's it's hard. It's hard to compare these two players because you have. I mean you have vitamin guerrero junior. Who is having one of the best seasons like ever especially especially with the baton hand and he definitely i know he has a higher war based on pure batting than the shohei otani. But when you add in shohei ohtani. He's pitching war. It makes a difference. It does because shohei ohtani isn't. He's not an ace on a team. But shohei otani is a guy that could be. A third stringer anti-israel hitter or not a third yet. Not a third stringer the third man in your rotation lake. But he's not. He's not an ace. He doesn't give you enough innings really to even be a third arm so really like you're you're really looking at shohei ohtani being your d. h. And then and then really after after he thinks he's your d. h. Then you're throwing him in in like the fifth fifth rotational spot. Maybe you're fourth rotational spot. So and the nl while you're not in a wildcard the nfl. The cy young is also something that could be a tossup. Because they're they're a lot of pitchers in this league. That definitely are very very good. I mean adam. Wainwright is top ten in the league right now. In terms of era he he has a sixteen seven record. A two eighty nine era almost two hundred innings pitched and es Strikeout one hundred almost one hundred and seventy batters like his whip is a one point three in opponents or hitting to seventeen off of him an atom for an adam. Wainwright really doesn't have a chance at winning the like winning this award at all which is just absolutely mind. Boggling art our top five right now. In terms of era robbie ray is in fifth place with eight to sixty. Four era brendan. Woodruff is in fourth with a two fifty five. Era walker. bueller has a two thirty nine. Era corbin burns with with a to thirty four. Yara and max. Scherzer has a two eight era now terms of era holy crap. Let's give it to sherzer but there are there are more stats to this than just max. Scherzer's almost sub to era. which is absolutely mind boggling. our league leader in strikeouts. Top five is corbin burns. Milwaukee has two hundred and twenty one on the year. Garrett cole in fourth place with two hundred and twenty four max scherzer with two hundred and twenty six zack wheeler two hundred and thirty one and robbie ray in just twenty nine starts has two hundred and thirty. Three strikeouts on the year are league leader in innings pitched number five goes to robbie ray with one hundred and seventy seven point one third inning and a third innings pitched number. Four is seeing the aukin tara for miami. He has a one eight or one hundred. Eighty eight inch thirds innings pitched on the season walker. Bueller the first guy to get in the one nineties has one hundred ninety. Two innings exactly pitched adam wainwright has one hundred and ninety six and third inning. Anzac wheeler is the only guy above two hundred after thirty starts yes two hundred and a third innings pitched is having a fantastic season. Like i don't even really think it's close like how good of a season that disguise guy's having our league leader in saves is number five tied for five. I should say will. Smith and rice sell glazes. They're both have thirty two saves on the year by the way. Jake mcgee For san francisco. Thirty one just outside that top five area number. Four is josh hader milwaukee as thirty three on the year tied for second is liam hendriks in kelly. Johnson both have thirty four off the ear inn. Mark belly gun has thirty seven saves at a forty two opportunities on the year for him. Or all chapman. Adjust a just kind of Hey arana's chapman still really good He has twenty seven saves out of thirty one appearances so far on the year as well and in only fifty fifty and a third innings pitched rods. Chapman has eighty seven strikeouts. Which would be like top five if he would have like. Yeah ron chapman would absolutely have Mora like a a significantly higher strikeout rate then That some of these some of these guys but let's go into some team stats real quick. we'll stay. We'll stay with the pitching category right now. Top five teams. An era is the new york yankees with a three seventy two team. Era the houston. Astros have a three sixty eighteen. Era milwaukee brewers are in third place with eight hundred thirty.

Route 66, the Mother Road
"From the first days we started working together. And i drove around a lot to gals in one thousand nine hundred seventy two green dotson roaming the tri county area like buzzing todd minus the corvette through santa cruz monterey and san benito counties in california we were doing oral histories and recording. Everybody who moved cowboys and fishermen farmworkers italian grandmothers. This was in the day of cassettes and as we drove around we always talked about how great it would be to document the roads inside roads. We were travelling so people could just pop in a cassette and listen to the people around them as they drove on through. We never quite pulled off that cassette idea on a large scale but when davy moved east for a while we decided to try the idea out on route sixty six. She'd be driving a lot so that was the start. It was the end of the road. It was the last days surf route. Sixty six as we were traveling. I mean just trying to follow it at that. Point was a you know you drive down. Affronted tro that was the old highway. And then it would just bottom out. And there'd be broken asphalt or cactus. So we're trying to get icon of people from each stretch of the road and mickey mantle grew up on route sixty six. He played baseball team. Known as the baxter springs with kids the scout for the yankees with dr along route. Sixty six looking for up and coming ballplayers and manel hits this home. Run across the highway. And that's part of how he was spotted. So we're going. where can we find mickey mantle. We started to kind sniff around joplin missouri. The mickey mantle holiday inn. And someone said. Oh yeah there's a golf tournament going. On and mickey mantle. One of his sons. Were playing so. I just called the golf course. Said ma'am please speak to mr mantle. Suddenly there was mickey mantle on the telephone. We explain the story to him. And what we're doing in route sixty six and agrees to meet us and poor mickey. He could hardly walk by that time has knees. Were just blown out. Sorta bandy leg walks up one flight of stairs gets in the room. He just gives me a look and he just goes hallo. Reflections On Atlanta Braves Legend Henry "Hank" Aaron
"I could talk about the dignity in the class of hank. Aaron the man the you've been being for an hour easily but i'm a numbers guy and so let me tell you what i did. After hank aaron died i navigated over to his page on baseball reference. And i don't know. I just be held the majesty of this man's career and it literally gave me goosebumps. The more i looked the more. I realized he was beyond great. He was at some other level. He wound up with nearly thirty eight hundred hits. And that's a lot of freaking hits. It's a thousand more history chipper jones. It's two thousand more hits than mark. Maguire it's more hits than johnny bench and hank greenberg got combined and they're both in the hall of fame so i think about all those hints and i think about those seven hundred fifty five homeless because that's two hundred more homes than mickey mantle. Two hundred it's more homers than edgar martinez and duke snider hit combined. And they're both in the hall. But the more i dug i found other cool stuff to hank. Aaron had double digit home run seasons at age twenty and age. Forty here the only three players who did that. Willie mays ted williams hank aaron. That's a pretty good. Start on a mount rushmore. Would you say and all those home runs. He hit for all those years. This never struck out one hundred times. Then there's total basis crushes. Everyone who ever played in total bases six thousand eight hundred and fifty. Six total bases isn't just a record. It's seven hundred. Twenty two more than stan. Musial was the next closest player in history. If stan musial had hit another one hundred and eighty home runs. He still wouldn't catch i karen and total basis. That's a lot of total basis. That's incredible hitter hank. Aaron was for two decades. So is it possible to be one of the greatest players who ever lived and still the underrated. After looking over hank aaron's numbers. I think it is my name. Is david o'brien cover the braves for the athletic. And there's only two guys that i've ever felt this aura around them and that was mohammed ali and hank. Aaron and hank aaron. How's interviewed him. The first time at spring training. I remember approaching him and it was just You know i've done this for thirty years. And it was feeling. I've had unlike any other athlete that i've ever approached but then he immediately just he smiled and was so warm that that fear or intimidation just as melted away. And you could not believe that you were talking to this. Superstar is genuine icon living in atlanta for twenty years You can't overstate the importance of hank. Air to this city and this region the south. I grew up in the south and hank aaron being a black man being the greatest one of one of the two or three greatest players of all time and to do what he did in the south and then living in atlanta and seeing hank aaron you know mementos anchor and tributes and see his name on buildings and streets and that kind of thing. I would argue that. There is no athlete. That is more important to a city than hanker and wants to atlanta. He was such a huge part of how the culture of the south has changed. I mean this is a city where you feel fide of being so much black acceptance here. Thanks a huge huge part of that. He helped pave the way for all these other black athletes and entertainers wanna come here to be here. Brian jordan know it was an all star with atlanta. Bryant said that The reason that he chose atlanta was hank. Aaron and was a boy idle here. He said a black kid growing up playing baseball hank. Aaron was the guy but it was an opportunity for me to meet my hair. The hope the opportunity is given so many kids today. Amazing dominique wilkins. Said hank was a big reason. That he came here was one of the first people. It's probably one of the most instrumental guys into getting me here in atlanta. But one for god like hank. I wouldn't been here. Was hanker went to ted turner and said hey you need to get this kid by any means necessary. He said people should give the roses while they're alive and that he's glad to see him getting them now but he said hank should have been put on a pedestal decades ago and he was right What are the things that i remember him saying is that you gotta set example for people to come at you. And how do you do that. You do the right way you doing about being Have miltie you do it by just doing the right thing and the right thing a lot of times. It's hard and a lot of guys. Young guys don't know how to do the right thing. As far as how they present themselves to people and how they get back to people so to give back experts that i've learned over the years has become from erin trampling. We don't see that much of that anymore today. And he lived in the same house that he bought when he came here in. Nineteen sixty six from the

Can You Train Yourself to Become Ambidexterous?
"The. World is made up of about ninety percent of right handed people and ten percents, left-handed people folks who are truly ambidextrous, those who use their right and left hand equally well make up a negligible sliver of the population, but is ambidextrous, inherited or learned, and if learned, can it be learned as an adult? We spoke of email with Dr Sebastian. Auckland Berg a professor of psychology at Ruhr University and BOCOM Germany. He said a little bit of both. And this is determined by about twenty five percent, genetic factors and seventy five percent, non genetic factors like environmental influences. It clearly runs families, so it is somewhat inherited, but learning might also affect it I think amdex steady for a specific task. like hitting a tennis ball with the racket is possible, but full embiid extremity for all tasks is unlikely. Handedness being the skill in comfort, a person feels using one hand, or the other is considered a complex genetic trait, and since genes are involved hand, preference develops before a person's even born, but like other complex traits handedness including ambiguity extremity doesn't have a simple pattern of inheritance. Yes there is a greater chance. The children of left-handed parents will also be lefthanded than righties, but remember the chance of being a lefty is just ten percent overall, so most children have lefties are still right handed. An identical twins are more likely than non identical twins to both be either right or left handed, but many of both types do have opposite hand preferences, and that's before we even talk about whether a child's handedness is allowed to develop naturally or whether parents and teachers interfere. Hand dominance typically develops around age three and fully developed by age four to five, but it can be influenced by insisting a child uses their other hand, or by happenstance for example when he was four years old, former major league baseball pitcher Billy Wagner broke his right elbow and spent the summer in a cast. In his memoir Wachner victory recalls being a natural righty at the time and already mad for baseball, but for the next six weeks he threw only left-handed when the cast came off, he was in for a surprise when he tried throwing with his right, the ball went nowhere had lost not a strength of coordination for throwing with his right arm and gained it in his left. Wagner wrote. I was a natural righty then and still am I do everything right handed eat told tools right start lawnmower everything except pitch. Wagner wouldn't be considered ambidextrous though he's certainly managed to have an incredibly successful career working with his non dominant hand. Baseball is full of players who switch hit meaning. They hit equally well from either the left or right side, and are comfortable, facing left or right handed pitchers, some like hall of Famers, Eddie Murray Mickey Mantle and Chipper Jones were successful, but they like. Wagner weren't truly ambidextrous. Which is something? That's very difficult to do, but why the? Lindburg said headedness is something that is generated in the brain, not the hands as such. The half the brain contra lateral to the hand is better in controlling fine motor movements for example, the left brain hemisphere in right handers. The strength of this preference varies between individuals. Some people have a very strong preference for one hand, and resulting from that greater issue in using the other for specific tasks, so it's the brain that sets the barrier. But if the brains, that's the barrier. The brain can also remove it. Take the case of Billy McLaughlin. McLaughlin is an award winning guitarist known for a unique style of play, placing both hands on the Fredbord, Originally predominantly a right handed guitar player, but in the late nineteen nineties despite having a record at number seven on the billboard. He was struggling with control problems. He was missing notes when he played an experienced muscle spasms to the point that he was unable to perform. Finally in two thousand one McLaughlin was diagnosed with focal Dystonia, a movement disorder, causing muscles to contract involuntarily, though advised to find another career McLaughlin opted to teach himself to play left handed and he succeeded. So this begs the question. Can we teach ourselves to become ambidextrous as adults? A two thousand seven study found that as we age, we actually become more ambidextrous without even trying in part because the hands that we use more loses. Its dominance of the study was small. It included sixty participants all strongly right handed according to the Edinburgh handedness inventory, the participants completed various computerized dexterity tests, which included line tracing and aiming task and tapping the youngest group average age, twenty five years performed all the skills proficiently using their right hand, the Middle Age participants average age fifty years performed well using either hand on the gaming task while the two oldest groups average ages, seventy and eighty years performed just as well using either hand on all tasks except one. However overall performance appeared to decline with increasing age especially for the participants dominant hand, leading researchers to believe that quote, we become more ambidextrous as we get older because dominant hand loses its superior dexterity, and becomes more like are weaker hand. Some people have wondered whether attempting to become ambidextrous could strengthen the brain and potentially slow or fight the effects of aging or dementia Allen Berg said that's a myth, while it is true in general that brain training is a good idea when aging research has shown that what at strengthened is what is trained, so if I trained to write with my non dominant hand, this would affect the motor brain areas of the contra lateral half the brain, but not the areas involved in memory. Thus a specific memory training would make more sense in aging and dementia.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred insists league isn't juicing the balls
"Good point September jar gassed he joins us longtime baseball insider I thought rob Manfred did a good job today talked on a couple of different platforms MLB network on radio also at the podium about the baseball's not being Jews he had to do that it's an integrity issue and he's confident that that's not the case even after Werner landers comments what was your big take away on that topic I have a proposal and I know the commissioner pretty well and I know he won't do it so I'll give you my proposal I say that on Friday when the sport resumes use last year's baseball take last year's baseball but I know that there's enough of them out there take last year's baseballs and use them for two weeks exclusively at the end of the two weeks compare the amount of home runs that are hit to the number of home runs and hit the two weeks prior to the all star break and then we can have a definitive conversation I have asked outside best general managers are best players are vast reporters what's up with the baseball since everyone has a different theory it's the cover is different the insides different delay things different that this is different I've heard a million different things and no one knows definitively and I'm not expecting anybody to know and what man for it you know and I've been very critical of Manfred and you know I'm not trying to say this to plug a podcast but on my sports to French podcasts he has been accused of being involved in the Cuban player trafficking issues he's been accused of allowing David or to use to associate himself with wanted criminals even he's done a lot of things on his watch that I have been very critical of it might gonna sit here and say without a shadow of a doubt there's something going on with the baseball there's something going on with the way the hitting is going the launch angle aspect of baseball has crossed this game and I told you these numbers twenty eighteen baseball had eleven thousand less balls in play in two thousand and eight we're not talking about the nineties the eighties the seventies I don't want to hear an old man saying who's better when Willie Mays in name Mickey mantle were in the game but that's not the argument the argument is this board is drastically different than ten years ago Manford should

"What stood out to me was when he said like Joe was at hinted Senator was it in my brain. I mean, the buffoonery stood out to me. The don't make an ask for Mickey mantles phone number because he was so angry that he was like, I mean jersey number. I don't think you can call Mickey Mantle right now from honest. But when the thing that stands out is like, he if your jokes is men, you can't really say, no, right? Right. Because then there's a headline. That's like joked is meant didn't is rookie quarterback from wearing his number. Like, you shouldn't be the organization should be put in jobs is meant in that position. Yeah. Uh-huh. It quarterback. No. But they shouldn't you shouldn't. I just feel bad for Joe thighs. And it's a lose lose situation. He probably wants to be like, no, dude. That's my number. You cannot have it. But then he knows that could become a whole storm. All right. So the Washington team should be protecting him and making sure that that's not a thing that happens. I think his I think his point about like calling them up and asking for Mickey mantles phone numbers. Probably like he had to go through the Washington organization to get Joe thighs men's number. Thanks to call him and put him in this age engine. Maybe he could have gone through agent. I think he misspoke because he. The sort word wrong. You don't. Tony truth or? Sorry to be so loud. But there's also an interesting question here with this the concept of retiring numbers is one of those things that does not it's not a very forward thinking idea about sports because it's like we're going to run out a number swell. Here's eventually regatta run out a number into the triple digits like not life. Oh numbers shorter and the mo-, Mike. No because we just didn't have to dial the area code if you're calling from the same area could no. But before that phone numbers were shorter have much shorter. I think there was no older. You were pretty old. We absolutely had area codes. You just only had the dial them a few was outside of yours. I used to have to like you could call your best friend and just do like six two six. Oh, five three five that was my old house number from framingham. Way way long ago. It is not our number. And so not call that Tolima voicemail for the show. Somebody's not mine but used to be able to call I could probably remember like my old friends house numbers. That's still funny, but you didn't have to call five away or Iram. Isn't that weird? What a ways there's like a referee, respect brain. That's so strange. But that's because we had to dial them all the time. Yeah. They weren't just saved..

Sam good. Sam is going. All right for him. Sands aligarh. He's like, oh my God. I want to get out of here. We're talking about memorabilia things that you collect what did he collected and how much room does it take how much money spend on things that you collect? I don't spend any money. Well, I mean, I do I buy the beers. And then I I buy the glasses sometimes, and I gotta admit that occasionally glasses found its way out of the bar with me. Listen, one time somebody the guy even said here, I expect you to take this glass with you. I was like what really awesome. That was it a brewery in Philadelphia's like really really, I guess sometimes they expect it. I don't know. I'm not saying, I'm not advocating stealing anything at all. Trust me. I'm just simply stating that occasionally it happens that a beer glass of pint glass might wind it's find its way home, but mostly mostly almost all the time certainly all the time. I am not all the time. I've I've paid for. But listen, you can only have so many pint glasses and Tom in fort Washington is somebody who collects them apparently, and Tom how many do you have? Well, he used to have about one hundred twenty three the Atkinson. You know, I'm down to about forty or fifty and what do you do with the mall? Where are they? I just you know, whenever I want a cold one. Okay. It's his turn. It's his turn. And. Turn it seeing links stern. It's, you know, do you have a favorite? Do you have a favorite? Guinness Guinness, glasses your favorite one. Yeah. You bought loosely noticed the classes, you can stack them up. Yeah. Right. One on top of the other, and they're easy to sort of like, you know away. So you know, it doesn't really take too much. But. The top shelf on the one cabinet considered about forty eight. 'cause it's like what four on top of each other. And there's twelve were. So you really you're not even displaying them. You just have him in the in the counter, and then you're just using them as they come come up. Hey, look, man. I'm. Man. I I'm I'm living in a rancher, man. Twenty minutes. I'm not saying like if they're in the attic, you not building shells in your actually, you can go up and look at them or anything like that. I can't have a man cave yet, man. I have like ten kids, man. So you can have a cupcake before before I got married though, I traveled around a lot because my mother was from. County Cavan Ireland, and she has a whole bunch of relatives. And I went all over the world. I got I got from all over the world from New Zealand Australia, South Africa. Well within Ireland London. It's like I'm gonna have to kill my wife to bring him home. Well the week. Well, hopefully, hopefully, you'll they'll get that. You'll get that man cave. What day you can put them all over the place and and and display him. So you can be you could probably display your your pint glasses from New Zealand Dr bags for calling. I appreciate it. Stein laggers so one from New Zealand. Okay. Well, I'll have to try to see if I can find that in the in the craft brew section somewhere. Thanks for calling Tom. Let's go to John in Huntington county, John. This is interesting, John. What do you collect? Hey erica. I collect a baseball sports memorabilia now, what is your most. Let's say we'll do separately. Let's first talk about your baseball car. What is your most prized baseball card? My most be occurred. The first card I ever got it kind of started me. So I'd say that's my most prized. Look, I won't show that for anything. What is it who is it? Oh, it's it's my favorite player. It's a nineteen Eighty-three. Curl, your strengths. Oh. Is that worth a lot of money? No, it's worth about fifty cents a sentimental value. No. I get that. But so without telling you know, what's your most expensive? What's the card is worth the most in your collection? I got a a nineteen Fifty-three Mickey Mantle. Wow. Now, I heard they're they're worth a lot of money. Yeah. It's in very good condition. You know, perfect 'cause then be pretty rich. But it's in pretty good condition. And it's it's worth a good map. Now, do you? Are you very knowledgeable on baseball cards? Like, you can tell me if I if I mentioned a card could you say, I think that was worth X amount of dollars. Because I have a question for you. If I had if I had a rookie Mike Schmidt from the Philadelphia Phillies rookie, Mike Schmidt card would that be worth something? Depending on condition. I sell them to you can get up around like two hundred dollars because my rookie Mike Schmidt card that I had wound up in the spokes of my bicycle with a with the with remember who used it and put it on the spokes of my, you know, it sounded like a motorcycle I was driving. What riding my bike? And that was my rookie Mike Schmidt card who knew back, then I didn't know who knew that. They were going to be worth anything. They ruined the cards. Yeah. And like, I I don't think cards today. Don't come with gum in them. Do they? No, they stopped that in about two thousand ten they stopped putting gum in the cars. Now, let me ask you this. If you have an unopened pack of cards with gum in it from. I don't know let's say the seventies. Is that worth anything, the unopened pack with gum, even though you don't know. What's in it? Is it worth anything? Yeah. It depending on the year the six year with the law money 'cause you know, like Mickey Mantle bright the seventies. You can still get some money. Now, what's your your sports memorabilia, what's your most prized possession? I have a tie Cobb signed baseball. Fifty of authenticity. Wow. That's gotta be worse. Some bucks. Yep. Yeah. I was I was looking the other day. I was I was out with my son. And we were looking and we saw a a Philadelphia Eagles signed Super Bowl picture like we signed by the whole team. And I was like, wow. That's awesome. I wonder what that caused it was like five thousand dollars. Yeah. That's awesome. All right. John. Thanks, a key collecting the cards, and I'll I'll look for my shredded, Mike Schmidt card and see if I can get like a quarter Ford or something. Alright thanks for calling tonight. One eight hundred two eight three one zero one five love to hear what you collect. Because it is interesting to me that I had for me. It was this painting that got me thinking about it tonight, a painting that is worth absolutely nothing except for sentimental value. I get sentimental value. But here I was thinking I had a pain that was worth a lot of money. They came from France. And it was a reproduction it's worth ten bucks. So, but I'll keep it and hang it in cherish it. Because it's been in my family the entire time. Hey, Jane, JoAnne, hanging there. We'll come back to you. As soon as we're done with a traffic and weather. Make.

Not like a bunt that bounced over the head of an incoming third baseman. But bettering left-handed he bunted to the left side and beat it out. I mean, and and the from what I understand the third baseman was playing in and beat it out this before the legs, the knees everything. Alright Dave is calling from Brooklyn, New York, Dave and you're on the fan in New York City. What's happening? Man. What's going on you? I gotta tell you the best of what you do. Thanks so much for your while. Whatever whatever it is that I do, please. The next time you call let me know what it is. So I can do it again. You're watching the Knicks addicting, you know, your show. You and I are both could end up in Bellevue. Yeah. Question, you know, when when they were talking to Brodie and ask him about pursuing and outfielder responded that wants to try to get the shot in the outfield. And you know, we still last year. I get it yet to see them offensively and defensively. Steve does that would comment concern? You jet is really a viable option for the. Well at this point. I mean, I would love to say, yes. But I can't say anything because I don't know. It doesn't. No, I would say now because listen I would love to be shocked. I would love to be surprised in a positive way about players that I think are yet going to make much of a positive difference for the New York Metropolitans what we saw with McNeil with the two months that we saw from him. He played a very decent second second-phase, but we needed thirty six year old second baseman over there. And and of course, you know that. Yes. Even though we three seventeen canot hit three seventeen after he came back from the eighty game suspension. Everyone is assuming he's going to continue to be hitting three hundred. Let me ask you something David, do you think he's gonna hit three hundred or more for the maths? I think maybe he's got one more year. One more year of three hundred. Yeah. But I'm thinking, you know, we still have four years left on undercover. Five I guess from from your mouth, I'm going to remember from your mouth came these work. We'll find took upon what one hundred and twenty million of a contract. That money to get Alex. Better. Well, they got D as again with this fan. Thanks for your call. Dave from your mouth already. He should hit three hundred and nobody cares. If he. Does it run out with ground balls as long as his home run trot is the save is running out ground balls tried the bottom line is, you know, I wanna see of it three hundred eighty you know, he's come to the Mets. So he's gonna hit three hundred again, everyone is so certain is gonna hit three hundred. I wish I was that certain. I'll be does. But everyone is like a like like nothing to say, oh, of course, Iliad three hundred of them. We'll worry about first base. And then there was REO picking it up, and then maybe Frazier will hit more than two thirty and everybody is just as Suming. It really Michael you're a huge metropolitan vandy are just assuming that the canal is gonna hit over three hundred again. No, you can't assume anything with met, even though connotes played in New York and been great here. Roy somebody comes to queens and puts on that Mets jersey. You can't assume they're going to be there. Nobody ever David was just just assuming they can always going to hit three hundred again if from his mouth, no real methane could think that way. No, Dave Zeon. See this is the thing and spats bedtime. The whole take you can tell the how young is though. But but I'm hoping that Dave is right. Maybe he's like Nostra Domus. Listen, if he's right. We have to get him to call in more and tell us about how great other Mets are gonna play Dade keep calling with a lot of positive see because Brody bandwagon. He was selling to us and still continues to sell hope and believe I I don't want him to sell anything. I want him to buy players. Who is it a Ravi? How can I not know? Rob. Hi robbie. Which is coming back from the game. The Nixon rockets. A good game. And a good game. What was heard about watching the beard scored sixty one. That was good. We're yes. Because he beat the Knicks. Yes. And that was tending MVP MVP all along when he was shooting. Although now, you don't say that to him. Anyway. The reason I call is. I don't agree with you. When you said that you're not going to give them VP because. Six and seven of last yesterday. That's right. I hold grudges. Yes. No. I hold a grudge on you to. Listener first-time caller. But I am I'm glad you. I'm glad you're part of it. No. Yeah. Go ahead. Go ahead and VP should be given for this year's performance. And he is absolutely the best. Well, that's what I mean. You know, he'd but now he needs to win something. I mean, wake me when he wins something wake me. Wait, what he does something one that really matters. And he yes, he did not Robbie did not show up for game six game seven. And now you could say, Well, Chris Paul wasn't there either. But neither was hard. And where was he? Any of those? Sixteen point. Does he missed in game six and seven in at all if you couple of them went in getting more. Oh, he would show CT. Yes, he did. And you know, what you won't admit it because you're his friend. And I know that you good game. I was I enjoyed my game at the medicine, Greg. That was your first game there and everybody was laughing at shouting. That they should be. Yes. So where were you sending all like sitting in the nosebleed seats eighteen? Yeah. I know. All right. Burt Reynolds, star of "Boogie Nights" and "Smokey and the Bandit," dies at 82
"It Burt Reynolds movie star who played it for grins dies at eighty two. And they talk about well right here. The ex-jock jock from Florida starred in deliverance and boogie nights. But preferred making such populist fun fair as smokey and the bandit the Campbell run and starting over. That's that's kind of what he always loved doing until much later in his career. And he was the biggest box office star in the world at one at one time. Yeah, this is well written. I read part of this again, this is Hollywood reporter Reynolds who received an Oscar nomination when he portrayed porn director Jack corner in. Boogie nights. Nineteen ninety seven was the number one box office attraction for a five year stretch starting in the late nineteen seventies for five straight years. Wow. Half a decade, and obviously before and after that still enormous, but I mean, number one for half a decade. He died this morning at Jupiter medical center in Florida. According to his manager. This is a little sad though, beloved by audiences for his brand of frivolous. Good old boy fair the playful Reynolds rarely was embraced by the critics the first time he saw himself in boogie nights. He was so unhappy he fired his agent he went on to win a Golden Globe. But lost out in the Oscar supporting actor race to Robin Williams for Robin Williams role in goodwill hunting, and they say it was a very bitter disappointment for Burt Reynolds. And then he had said this. This was later in a memoir called. But enough about me Burt Reynolds says I didn't open myself to new writers or risky parts. Because I wasn't interested in challenging myself as an actor. I was interested in having a good time. As a result. I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles by the time. I finally woke up. Up and tried to get it. Right. Nobody would give me a chance. Yeah. So he wasn't entirely satisfied with his career. But it's just so funny because my God he was like the ultimate movie star required for quite a while. And he was married to Lani Anderson. How many times was he married? Didn't he marry Sally field or were they just an item? I can't even remember, man. I can't I don't know. And you said he was married to Lani. I believe you. I wouldn't have known if he was only dating her. Messier divorces in Hollywood. Did they I think they did? Yeah. I didn't remember any of it. But. And it's weird that he hated himself in boogie nights. I thought he was I thought it was good in boogie nights. I guess he did maybe just didn't like the rule. I dunno. I thought it was good. I thought he was kind of like a like a tragic figure in that movie. I remember a funny thing. Now, you know, these are like these old Hollywood stories. So who knows if this is true? But this this is what I once read that both. He and Clint Eastwood. Were under contract for so many movies. And this is like before they were huge. They were not movie stars yet. But they were under some small contract for so many movies from the same studio, and they both get called into the office by this big shot at the same time. And he was tearing up the contracts paid them off whatever it was a small thing. They weren't they weren't big movie stars yet. And the way that they were both let go the story had it that he pointed. I at Burt Reynolds and said, you you can't act and then points at Clint Eastwood and said, you your Adam's apple is too. Big. You're out and he gets rid of. And the story was that they walk down. All I want this to be true. They walked down the hall. They get into the elevator. They're both quiet for second. It's only them and Burt Reynolds says man, you're the one I feel sorry for and Clinton says why Bert says, well, I can always learn to act. You can't do a damn thing about that. Adam's apple. Typical always a jokester. I hope that's the true story. But freaking knows. All right. Well. This is like one of those deaths where wow, it was huge name. I guess it's not one that like totally crushes me or gets me really upset not saying anything bad about the guy. I bet my mom will feel really
