"May be the Octoberfest Los Angeles Dodgers are in town for three. And then Pittsburgh here Washington here Then they play the White Sox for a couple games that may not matter in Chicago, the White Sox and then they go to Pittsburgh for those last three, So we'll see what happens there. Lastly, you C bear cat football. I'm listening to the game. Of course, I think the halftime score was like 7 to 7. And I can tell that Dan was concerned and the second half they blew them out. And then they dropped to one place in the standings, which they did last year to you might recall the bear count football team kept winning, and they kept dropping because they didn't want. They didn't want him in the playoffs. And so it looking just to score itself. It was a blowout. What was that? Like 38 to 7 or something? Uh, maybe 42 to 7. Whatever it was, I was a blowout with the national writers knocked him down a notch. Why? Because they weren't that impressive against an FCS squad. Iowa be a state and Iowa state team that's really good. Oregon went on the road and beat Ohio State in Columbus. When you when you when you have those things happen to you, and you struggle against an FCS opponent, you're going to get jumped. I don't have a problem with that. I will be the Iowa State, a team that was in the top 10, Oregon. Heart beat Ohio State, which hadn't lost at home since I believe 2000 and 17, Oklahoma one. So the teams in front of Cincinnati, perhaps with the exception of Clinton, although Clemson's one loss was to a team that's currently ranks second, Um I don't have a major issue with where they're placed. The reality, though, is this They're going to be judged by how they do in their next two games from a national perspective because I believe they're going to be favored to win every game In the American Athletic Conference, Indiana lost their first game of the season to Iowa. I was ranked in the top five Hoosiers bounce back and played very well. On Saturday night. I subscribe to the belief that Michael Penance junior quarterback is not going to play as poorly against Iowa or against Cincinnati, as he did against Iowa that is going to be a road game against a big, tough opponent that was nationally ranked before the season. Started after that. They're going to go to Notre Dame. The Irish haven't been great. In fact, they felt forced box in the top 25 despite winning on on Saturday, But they needed a touchdown from Covington, Catholics, Michel mayor and the final two minutes to be Toledo. They nearly blew an 18 point lead against Florida State. If the bear cats can go to Bloomington, Indiana, if they can go to South Bend and beat Notre Dame Um, all the credit in the world that should be thrown at this team from national outlets will be thrown at this team. This is a chance if you have long complained about how the bear catch are treated nationally there in the noon window. I believe on ESPN on Saturday and they're going to be playing in South Bend on ABC two weeks from Saturday. Here's their opportunity. And if as a top 10 team they can win those two games, people are going to start talking about them being the legitimate college football playoff contender, But they haven't played a full 60 minutes yet. They took their foot off the gas against Miami in the second half of Game one, Uh, they were sleepwalking. I think, for the most part for the 1st 30 minutes against Murray State. They've got to play a full 30 minutes. The good news is I love the talent on this team, but it looks like a will have his team's ready to play. But, you know, getting back to the Original question. Look at who they look at who they played. Look at who they beat. Look at the way they played and then look at the teams that jumped him in the rankings. I can totally understand why the Barakat fell. One thought FC winds to zip doesn't matter. Got to get matters much for the purposes of getting to the postseason. It was nice. This was probably their best chance, and one might say their last chance to finally win a home game franchise. Will you and I have talked about it. I think in many respects is kind of at a bit of a crossroads right now, in terms of where people are with it, and, you know, look when they were when they burst on the scene in 2016. Much of the conversation about that franchise was not what was happening on the field, but interest attendance where they are in the marketplace. Well, we still have to have those conversations, the marketplace has shifted. The Cincinnati Bengals appear to be on the come. Cincinnati Reds are not losing 95 games every single year. You see football's a bona fide, uh, entity, which in 2016 whenever the Cincinnati debuted, Tommy Tuberville was crashing it into a mountain. Farm. It's a new stadium. I know they're not raising ticket prices for season ticket holders next year, but the buzz that sort of envelope this town when that franchise first burst onto the scene has gone away almost entirely. And the only way they're going to regenerate. It is to win, winning and winning consistently, and I don't know how they do that with the way they're being run right now, because the track record of the people who run FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer is not good by winning their game the other night we gotta run, but you had a chance to sign Messi. And maybe Ronaldo, and they didn't get it done. But no, we got to go and we'll talk later as events unfold. Thank you for coming on the on the Bill Cunningham show. Thank you. One more home Stand, Willy. Well, I will be there. Tell you wrong? Yes, I will. You want to back me up? You're going to be like all of your politics. Buddies that make these empty promises. You're not going to show up. I will be there, Mo. I will be there. Thank you, Mom. Believe.

"Phone brothers and sisters, the you in my dreams at Ground zero. I'm Julie Walker. Vice President Kamala Harris spoke on the 20th anniversary of 9 11 we saw after 9 11. How fear can be used to sew division in our nation as Sikh and Muslim Americans were targeted because of how they looked or how they worshipped. She said. What lies ahead is not certain but remaining United will make Americans prepared for future challenges. And former President George W. And sirens and then quiet with missing voices that would never be heard again. These lives remain precious to our country. An infinitely precious too many of you. "Conference straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless. And let's get straight to it. Notre Dame was trailing with less than 90 seconds to go. Jack Cohen leads them on a touchdown drive. And now Notre Dame has the lead 32 29 in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute ago, Jack Cone Throws the touchdown. It was with a minute nine to go in the fourth. Trevor and look, It's been a mixed bag today for Cone. Earlier he was essentially benched and they needed a shot in the arm, and they brought in the true freshman to give it to him. Yes, they did. And they kind of had to because the offense was moving the ball, but it wasn't finishing. They were, um behind. 16 to 14 at the end of the first half, and then in the second half, they end up having all kinds of problems on offense. They end up with a fumble. They that leads to a touchdown for Toledo in the second half a long touchdown drive, then incomes the freshman now that's kind of kind of weird because you didn't Cone would be the guy they want. But Tyler Buckner came in and ran to drives. The first drive was a 55 yard touchdown pass to running back Chris Tyree. Okay, that worked out pretty well. The next drive. They're moving the ball with Buckner and they end up fumbling the ball. Kyra Williams running back, fumbled the ball and Toledo gets it back. So then cone comes back in now they're trailing 29 to 24. And Cone comes back in and leads a three play touchdown drive to go up 32 29. They scored the touchdown. They got the two point conversion, and now they're up by three with about a minute to go. So cone there was a fire lit under him, for goodness sake when Butler came in and did a lot of really good things, But Notre Dame realized that late in this game, they needed experience rather than a hotshot rookie to make sure that they were able to distribute the ball to the guys and distributed to and that dust down, wasn't it? 18 yard throw. The tight end Michel Mayor Michael Mayer last week against Florida State and keep dropped late did they were able to still win. But last week, nine catches 120 yards and a touchdown, this one from 18 yards out from Jack Cone, and then they go for two. To go up. Three. Avery Davis Little trickeration Kyron Williams for the two point conversion and so right now number eight Notre Dame with a 32 to 29 lead over Toledo. Notre Dame has won 24 consecutive home games. Dating back to 2017. That's the second longest active streak across the FBS. Second only to Clemson is 1 28 consecutive home games, and it's the longest home win streak by the fighting Irish Since winning 28 straight on their home turf from 1942 to 19 fifties, So we'll see if Notre Dame can hang on its 1st and 15 for Toledo at their own eight yard line. They started out with a false start. Not a good start for your potentially game tying drive minute nine to go there in the fourth quarter, Jack Cone 21 33 239 yards and two touchdowns. Ah, Toledo's offense has been really good, Brian come back 2021 carry 122 yards and a touchdown. Devin Maddox, eight catches for a buck 22 Jack Cone essentially gets benched comes back in. And delivers them with the lead. 32 to 29 minutes five to go in the fourth straight talk Wireless No contract. No compromise. Trevor. Look when when you look at it, I mean, obviously, Notre Dame. Come off that emotional win last week. There's going to be some questions. Obviously, you know the questions for Brian Kelly are going to be. Is there a quarterback controversy after this one right? And there may be because Jack Cone experienced quarterback transferred in from Wisconsin. But remember that the reason he transferred out of there is a grammars. The freshman was going to take his job. And so there are a lot of people that are waiting to see more from Jack home before they believe in him. Now, he did well last week against Florida State, But keep this in mind if you're a Notre Dame fan. Your team went down to Notre to Tallahassee, Florida State, a team that they should have blown out and ended up blowing a big fourth quarter lead. It was an 18 point fourth quarter lead or second half lead anyway, that Notre Dame blue for it to go to overtime. And then they finally won. Right. Well, okay, so they survived in advance. And now Toledo, which is a good team. A lot of people think that Toledo could win the Mac this year, but see you with a 34 to 32 lead on Calle That one's on ESPN. You Gave me and more with a touchdown run. He's got two on the day. Two point conversion fails Trevor few minutes to go here. Let's look ahead to tonight's games. Let's begin with Washington and Michigan. 7 30 Eastern College games on ESPN radio in the ESPN at some of you will hear that game coming up next here on ESPN Radio Michigan without Ronnie Bell Washington, trying to put last week's loss against Montana and the rear view. What's the deciding factor tonight? Deciding factor is the Washington defense. I think they will be able to slow down this Michigan offense and then allow their office a little bit time to get some things going last week, the Washington offense couldn't run the ball. And they couldn't throw the ball in response, And so I think it's going to have to be a thing where the defensive Washington rises to the occasion, and the offense figures out how to get the ball down the field. Magic. Trevor manage here on college GameDay on ESPN radio again that game coming up tonight You can check it out on ABC or right here on ESPN Radio..

A lot of people think that Toledo could win the Mac this year, but still Toledo at home in Notre Dame and Notre Dame Stadium. Is taking them to the absolute wire and that the thing about Notre Dame fans is that you know, you get to know kind of the personality of fan base is right and the personality of Notre Dame fans as a group, I think is that of having the most angst of any fan base in all of college football. I mean, they could be ahead to an FCS school. Of course, they don't play them. They can be a head to you know, it's called a high school by 30 points in the second half, and Notre Dame fans would be thinking about all the ways that they can Blow the game. Right, And so even if they hold on to be Toledo in this game isn't over. Yet. Toledo's got the ball with less than a minute to go. Even if they hold on to beat Toledo. Notre Dame fans are going to be up in arms about the way this team has started this season. After last year, making the playoffs. There's no question about it. And this was a team that wasn't expected to take much of a step back, But they had to certainly replace quite a bit specifically at the quarterback position. They had to replace a lot, But this is Florida State. Almost lost of Florida State took it to overtime, and then now Toledo has a chance to beat him. Toledo's one play away from winning this game in the final minute. We'll keep you updated on that Notre Dame will host Purdue next week. Then they've got Wisconsin Cincinnati, Virginia Tech. USC and North Carolina. Think about that stretch and we'll see how they get through that, but again got to get through this final minute will continue to keep you updated. He has led the Irish in receiving three straight games going back to last season. He's a mop grown man out there that you had a couple of drops. Gotta get rid of that, but he's a phenomenal player. And I mean the big weapon that offense. What do you think about their performance overall? I thought it was good. I look, I think they let their foot off the gas a little bit. Maybe got a little more conservative Marcus Freeman likes to do. I think you're still getting used to his defense. He's got a lot of You know, different positions and you know that he calls things so I think that can be confusing if it's kind of your first year doing things, but I think they'll settle in. Look, I think Florida State I think it's a good thing for college football. That Florida State is back to being relevant? Yes, Mackenzie Milton thing was great. So look, Was it perfect? No, but there's a lot of teams that I ask Washington how they they played like crap and got the l write their name. There's some things that they want to work on. But they gather out of there with the victory and in the morning cleaner this week, we're working through the Kelsey Chevrolet College Football Weekend preview. I tries to bounce back from a blowout loss in Iowa with a home game vs Idaho. Who's your quarterback Michael Pennington Jr threw three picks last week. He could have thrown 45 or six, I thought Indiana turned in what for expectations and rankings, turning one of the most disappointing performances in the opening weekend that everybody back back on that team. And either that or I was like, I mean, that wasn't one of my big shockers the weekend. I know they had to defensive scores. Okay, You throw that into consideration, but the end of day with Indiana having everybody back in a healthy Michael panics. They did not play well. Purdue takes on UConn. "There are a couple of them one where they have different ones. There is one that's in the Smithsonian, but the original raincoat. Which was really his raincoat. He bought the raincoat in the 19 fifties here in New York City, and that's the one that he wore in the early the pilot episodes. Subsequently they had other ones made. But the original raincoat he had all of us in a plastic wrapped kind of thing, And he said, Come on, let's take a look. He put it took it out of the closet and he let me put it on. You know what you can still why you've never seen it? It's unlike antenna TV, one of those at like 10, o'clock at night, you can watch the old episodes. Alright, so go to our Facebook page and weigh in your favorite television series that you wish had one more season in it. We've got some interesting ones. We'll talk about that a little bit later in the program, But now let's get the news. 9 30 from Joe Barton. Good morning, Joe. Morning Michel Mayor de Blasio going to be marching up the canyon of Heroes shortly with healthcare workers, along with teachers and others, 260 groups of workers going to be honored for their work during the pandemic. The question is how many Spectators will be a lot of people are not yet back at work at those buildings along Broadway. But I think you're going to see a lot of folks come out to support their fellow New Yorkers. Okay, We shall see Plan ceremony. City Hall after the parade has been scaled back because of the heat, so there will be no grand crescendo. I guess what's going to happen? I guess when you get to, uh, City Hall The mayor and his wife will wave at you. Thanks. Thanks a lot. See you later. Go home too hot. Oh, boy. That's going to be a winner today, you know, look at I mean, all right. I know it's going to be happy to 74 degrees right now. That's not impressive. Would you say no, It's not. Of course it wasn't that hot coming to work this morning. No, no. Well, whatever, too hard to us. All right, Uh, Governor, Cuomo says shootings around New York have become an emergency. Hey, you think he's declared disaster emergency now to deal with gun violence it like a public health issue. We know how to deal with an epidemic. What we want to say is we want to do with gun violence. What we just did with covid. Oh, that's gonna be great. Sure. What do you wanna do that? Does he have any self awareness Show this guy at all? No. No. Zero. The ego is just enormous. It's crazy. Actually, he really doesn't even have a plan. This is a seven point plan that includes getting illegal guns off the street and providing opportunities for at risk youth. Mhm. You know what That means? Eric Adams going to be the next mayor of New York City? At least that's the consensus At the moment he has won the Democratic primary Premier 126,000 absentee ballots were counted. He leads Katherine Garcia by about 8000 votes about 1% all due respect to Curtis Leva. Oh, we'll go up against Adams in November. It looks like Adams is probably going to win. "I've been looking forward to this. Joining me now is my friend Pastor Darrell Scott, author of the book Nothingto Lose Pastor. You said this morning. The GOP is failing. It's something badly when it comes to black voters. Tell me what you're talking about. Well, uh, served that the GOP usually, um, select or back. Candidates that reflect the party. Two. The community. Rather than Select or back candidates. That Um, reflect the voters in the community. And, you know, I got that idea from there was a couple of years ago myself in my business partner, Quinlan, there was sitting down with them. Uh, Republican donors there were very, uh Generous to the party, and we said to them down. This was going into 2020. I think we met them around 2019. Or is it was 17 going into the 18th? We said, Why do you guys always get behind these stuff? Certain Button black candidates that what one like They got a stick up there behind way, said they do not relate to the community. They don't They don't have the connection. They don't relate to the community. The black voters in these areas that you want to talk. They won't support them. And you know what? He said that I found very, very enlightening. He said. But those are the ones that we can relate to. You understand what I mean? He was. He was a very rich, very influential, buttoned up older white guy. This has been a lifelong Republican, he said. Those are the ones we can relate to. It was the black candidate that Um, uh, You know, he went to college and nothing wrong with him. He had a white wife and nothing wrong with that. And you know, he was a stuffed shirt looking kind of corporate looking guy. Got coming than the election. By a guy who was in and of the community that They were running in. And had more of a connection to the man on the street and when he said, maybe said, But those are the ones we relate to. And I think that his statement was reflection of the party as a whole. When you look at the Republican Party in the candidates we get behind. You know when, when it's a black candidate. It has to be a certain height of black candidate. Where's the Democratic Party will get behind candidates that were not only in the community, but we're also up the community. You know, I see a lot of these. These, um Can. It's out here That will say what? You know, I was born in a certain area and I was born in the hood. And I made it out of the hood and I went here and it's one thing to be in the hood. But it's another thing to be up the hood. What you guys came. What is the difference? You have no connection. What is? I'm sorry to interrupt your Patrick. What is what is the difference? Because I look obviously I'm not from the hood. I'm his white is snow. What is the difference between being from it or being of it? Like, what does that mean? All right, let me e Let me make it. Say it this way. When I grew up, I came up and I was out in the streets for a long time until I gave my life to blue and got out of the street. Now there were guys that were in the same neighborhood as I was. And when my friend like in the first grade and second grade, they never did The things that I did. They were never part of that community Street culture. You understand, And so they were in the community. They were in that culture, but they weren't up the culture and so they couldn't connect with the man on the street. These were the guys that they get the right thing, and there's nothing wrong with doing the right thing. But what they did they were raised up to say Hey, Go to school and get out of here and get his fly away from here as you possibly can. And so the one gentleman I'm thinking of in particular here, not we're best friends and Kim dine 1st 2nd grade third grade. But he didn't do the things that I did, in fact, his pants on me, you know, do something. One time I went out and play with me anymore. At least not in front of death. Now, Here's the thing. He went off to college. He actually was a member of Bill Clinton's administration for eight years. After the eight years he was assistant secretary of education under Bill Clinton administration came back to Cleveland Rampant Mayor. No, of course I'm gonna be on this side because he was my friend. Since we were 11. People in Cleveland didn't connect with him. He came back and said, Hey, I did what you guys said. I raised up and I went to school and I went away to college and I became a part of the President's administration. Now I'm back to Michel Mayor and the people of Cleveland with a man. We have to see you around here in the last 15 years. You think you're gonna come back and leave that just because you did that? Just because you made what you consider to be a success. And that's what happens. You have. If you look at the candidates that the Democrats have even let's go look at Georgia. Let's look a flawed candidate like Warner. People in the community knew one that he passed in the church in that community. People in community knew one that one that could point activities that he had in the community that Kelly Lava can point to. Okay, I do now, I do. I understand it very well. And look. There's no ability to Republican Party doesn't even really want the campaign to the black community. And that black vote. The black vote is the sleeping giant that has woke up and it's not going back to sleep. If you don't campaign in that black community. You're not gonna get that black folks. You're not gonna win the election. No, I don't see what you're saying. And there's no ability. There's no ability like relatability and everything in politics and business. And you know that very well. I mean, I'm sure it's probably the same from the pulpit..

"We were just getting done talking about the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their 31 14 lost to Alabama today in the Rose Bowl. Man on man. Are they gonna bring a Brinks truck to the Devante Smith House house or what? Not Only do they need to bring a Brinks truck, but they probably bring need to bring a hardware store trucks. I think I think he's winning the Heisman on Tuesday. Like that guy is just I'm mean. I didn't watch much of Alabama until maybe a couple weeks ago in the S E C championship game, But watching Devante Smith during that came and then also tonight. That guy. That guy's got himself one heck of the future ahead of him. No doubt about it. And you know you were also mentoring Tyron Williams and what he was able to do tonight. Have a touchdown 64 yards, but you know when they were marching downfield in Tommy tremble got hurt. That was also a massive blow, at least to the offense. Itwas like Tommy tremble. Does everything that off far as being the key, tight end blacker and and being the guy that they can also get out into space. So when he went down was almost like here you go again. At 18 T Stadium, playing in a college football playoff semifinal, just like they did two years ago when they lost Julian Love their pop corner against constant When Julian Love goes out the entire game plan changes When Tommy Trouble goes out. They changed a lot of the stuff that Brian Kelly and Tommy Reese wanted to do offensively, and a lot of it was Senator Ron Carter Willits. Annoyed with US columnist for the South Bend Tribune time when we were on together on the Fourth of July. You brought up the massive expectations for Ian Book this year, and that's what they were massive does does he end up living up to those expectations? Absolutely like the guy was 30 and five as a starting quarterback at the University of Notre Dame, and I think we'll get lost in the shuffle with Ian Book was, everybody looks at guys like we're watching TV right now. They look. Justin Fields Ohio State, They look at Trevor Laurence. They look at other quarterbacks Kyle Trask in Florida and say, Why can't even book beam or like quarterback eight year seat? Mac Tone's that Alabama? He's not that type of quarterback and it's it's something where it's okay. If the guy's not going to go, it's not targeted. Have a 10 year NFL career and be a first round NFL draft choice. At the end of the day? You could still be a really good college quarterback. It's for Ian book to do what he had to do at as a quarterback at the University in the rain, probably one of the most, if not the most scrutinized position in college football for him to go 30 and five in his career as a Turner. People are gonna look back next year or a year year after that, in 2021 or 2022 think you know what Notre Dame had a really good when he and focus the quarterback? Well, let's talk about the future because you know you're more in depth and recruiting than most. Where do they go from here? What happens next? At the quarterback position just in general. I think that it will. We'll start the quarterback position. I think what Brian Kelly really need to look hard at is to bring in a graduate transfer. Maybe the kid from Cincinnati. Maybe, like a one year die because Tyler Buckner's the Future like starting quarterback, but he'll be a freshman next year, and he's from California. So if he didn't play high school Football Hall this year take expect. Tyler Buckner's as much as he's heralded and thought of to step right in to become the starting quarterback at the university, right. I think it's a little hard Think to pine is is more of a bad career back up. They've got a look. Maybe outside the box next year at a quarterback then when we talked about earlier, too, they just need to fight still position. Playmakers, guys you can put on the field and feel like you know what If we need to make a play, I can go toe. This guy. That guy or a guy like Michel mayor who's just gonna continue develop a tight end. In a pro across like I can go to different guys to move the ball down the field to not have to rely solely on the Kyron Williams to pick up first downs and touchdown. Did you end up being surprised of how this year went again when we were talking on the Fourth of July? That was just when the Ireland trip was getting canceled, were like you know what the hell is going on? Really mean? That's that's what everybody was thinking. I mean, were you surprised even after Notre Dame had the covert scared too? Are you surprised? We're talking right now about the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day? Yes, you know, like I don't We do. The defense was going to be really good. And we do maybe the offense if they could find some some different playmakers. The offices line, one of arguably one of the top two or three offensive lives in the country. When I was surprised about was after the covert scare, like I don't think there was a team. In the country outside of Alabama. That took this college football season as seriously as Notre Dame like Marine has a scare and father, John Jenkins, the university president. Was this close, just pulling the plug on everything. Sending the student body home, sending the football program home and say We're not going to deal with this. If you guys are going to take it seriously. There was not a program in the country outside of Alabama that took this more seriously and said, You know what if we want to go to the college football playoff? We wanna Max this season out. We've got to follow all the protocols and do all the right things. And basically put ourselves in the bubble for 12 weeks. No rain was able to do that, And that was the result of it like they were in the college football playoff because they took the cove it and all the protocols and everything else that went along with it. Seriously. That's it. We're not gonna let this affect our season. Other than that weak force cancelation, right? Never really did it Didn't. I know you also cover Notre Dame basketball quite a lot to big game tomorrow. Down in North Carolina in Chapel Hill, four o'clock What are your impressions of Mike Brace team so far this year time? It's been such a struggle on like I tweeted yesterday. Look at the seventeen's out of if tomorrow will be the night game and with with cold feet, you have no idea like the game could be could be canceled an hour and a half before tips. This will be their seventh game. There's some of their 19 7 Other nine games. Let me roll these off Michigan State, Ohio State Kentucky. Per do, Duke. Virginia and now North Carolina, and then you throw in development and Detroit mercy like that. Mike Brey wanted to play it a crusher schedule. Didn't thought is this program was ready for it. I don't think they were quite ready for what they've had to experience. Maybe that helps them later on down the line in the agency, But it's been a struggle for another name. But again, they feel like everybody talks about what are they going to do? How? How are the houses kind of preparing for the tournament? How is this going to prepare our they're going to get to the anti German. They're not even taken of that..

"Nick Saving, who was coaching up until the very last moment, even getting A penalty at the end of the game, showing his wear, making sure his guys weren't gonna let up because he wasn't either. After the game, he cooled down a little bit and talk to their Allison Williams. This was a team victory and you let him start to finish finish what stood out to you about the way your team was able to control this game. Well, you know, I was really proud of our players. They worked hard. You know, we didn't come here to finish here, so I was really proud of the way we came out to play. We didn't finish the game like would like, you know, you'd like to take the air out of it on offense. I've always got something and I'm complaining about, But anyway, it's a great team win. You know, we played well on special teams offense did a good job. Throwing the tempo of the game and defensively we got enough stops toe be able to get off the field when we needed to. So I was a great team win, and these guys have really earned the opportunity to play in the national championship game, so we'll see what we can do with it. You mentioned your defense and Notre Dame presented some different challenges for your team. What was the key to holding them to just 14 points? Well, I think that way played really good team. Defense Way got some stops when we needed to weigh controlled the quarterback as well. As well as you could do it. He's still got out of there a couple times, but we're trying to make him run sideways way Did we had success when he was able to step up didn't have much success. So there's a lot of things that goes into playing winning football on. A lot of guys have to do their job to do it on. One of those guys was romantic. Smith. How do you begin to describe the impact it has on this game? Well, he does a great job. He's a talented guys, a hard worker. I mean, does everything exactly right. He has a great understanding of what he needs to do to be a Make plays, and he makes them every chance again. So we're very fortunate to have him and he's had a great year. Yes, he has. And there is coach Saving referencing is on sportsmanlike conduct once again, just trying to light a fire under a squad even though it was an easy when I want to talk about a couple of things, and I want to start by talking about Mack Jones. This is something that was mentioned during the TV broadcast and something that Joe Andre and Holly were bringing up. You know, this guy wasn't sought after by anybody he'd originally committed to Kentucky at the last minute. A powerhouse SEC program came in swooped him and he chose Alabama. But he knew to a tongue of Milo was there. New Jalen hurts was there He didn't back down. He looked good enough that another tongue of Iowa ended up transferring to his brother. He's a Heisman finalist is well, Devante Smith deserves all the praise he gets. He was outstanding today. But it's the quiet Mack Jones that I believe makes Alabama run like a Mack truck. TRAV your thoughts on Mack Jones, maybe one of the most unheralded, considering he's Alabama's quarterback of maybe savings, Best team ever not getting the shine a lot of his other predecessors have gotten, but he seems to be as important to the tide as any one of the 85. He's not just a game manager. I think a lot of people expected him. Could be a placeholder for bright young this super recruit out of California, But he actually has become a playmaker in his own right and Zubin that I think is not just unexpected. It's a bit shocking for some people, because let's go back to last year in the Iron Bowl against Aubert to untangle Vilo was injured. So in his place is Mac Jones. Back. Jones throws to pick sixes in that game, and I don't think anybody would have imagined that in the wake of that he will come back and become a Heisman finalist. It's not just that he has Devante Smith, and for part of the season, he had jail in water, and he has not yet started about all that stuff helps. But Mack Jones made so many plays where he was being hit in the mouth by a free runner up the middle, and he delivered an accurate past deep down the field to one of those guys covered. That's what playmakers do not game managers do. Mac Jones deserves every bit of praise that he's getting, and anybody who suggests that he's successful because of the guys around him on Lee have half of it right because they're all so successful because of Joe. That's a great point because saving had been hesitant to play freshmen quarterbacks until Jalen hurts, arrived on the scene. He looked great in a lot of people said Hey, Bryce, Young as you mentioned the super recruit. Do the same after especially kind of up and down finish to the season for Jones, But he didn't just grab the job. He put a stranglehold on the job, played his prep football in Jacksonville, Florida wasn't talked about a ton like I said, took a trip. Maybe the Lexington decided the best place was T town, and now they find themselves 60 minutes away from savings. Latest college football playoff National championship. The other quick thing I wanted to mention here is it just has to be asked, And it's so cliche because you know they've shown a couple of defensive lapses. As was mentioned in the broadcast against boldness. Florida was able to go up and down the field and certainly match the tide almost for score for score. But after what you saw today Where is the Alabama weakness? The Alabama weaknesses. Linebackers covering tight ends. I expected Notre Dame to go farm or to their tight ends in this game than they did. And even though Tommy tremble got hurt, Michael Mayer was there. They had others there, and they've got a deep stable of titles that could do all kinds of stuff. And yet they only had let me see 123 just about, um, while they had in the first half. They had two throws two tight ends in the second half. Michel Mayor ended up with six catches, so they didn't throw the ball more to him in the second half, and it worked and they moved the ball, especially in that last drive that they got their second touchdown, but Think other teams I Clemson or Ohio State..

"Booking the ball out quicker than he has all night. So something happened when he had to take a minute in the tent. He's come back a different player here in this fourth quarter. His numbers look good 22 out of 23 out of 31, but still just 204 out of those 23 completions from the pocket throws to his left. Great ball completes a matter. Michael Mayer caught it. At the 15 on the far numbers and has run out of bounds. Excellent accuracy and timing there from book Jordan battle the safety of the coverage, gaining 10 Irish and the candy and book letting the football go on absolute laser to Michel mayor right as he turned out of his break those air NFL type throws for in book great timing on that one and put it right on him with some velocity as you mentioned Ryan. To 18 County left in the game first and sent Irish on the Alabama 13 comes inside of 31 to 7 book rolling out to his right in trouble throws to the corner of the end zone throws it way out of the end zone just threw it away. Every Davis, the closest receiver for Notre Dame, in the far part of the The right side of the end zone. But nowhere near second down 10 now from the 13 1 play I always liked in the Red Zone as a player is the wide screen the screen to the tight and they call it Y screen right. Alabama's bringing a lot of blitz, not a whole lot of room for traditional screen, but let your time and get some opportunities here with about 15 years and ends up Book throws quickly to the left out of the backfield completed 13 yard line to the 10 on the far side of the field and run out of bounds is Kyron Williams came out of the backfield turned to his left. Game four. Daniel right, the safety pushed him out. That's the most receptions for Kyron Williams all season. He has been magnificent for the Irish today, and he's just not able to at his position. Be the spark that they need offensively That has to come from your book, and it's come a little too late for the luck of the Irish 1, 46 and counting left in the game third and five from the Alabama eight yard line and both drops back on the fall. Hash throws complete to the two and down to the one yard line goes.

"Into his hands before the linebackers are able to show up tonight's job of converting their on third down, Bob Counting down 9.5 minutes to go here in the third quarter on the shotgun again, his book first out in 10, Notre Dame from their own 21 yard line. A gap pressures picked up book drops back to pass, trying to extend the play. Now he tucks and runs and dives ahead. A 24 yard line didn't have many options with Tide linebacker Dylan Moses tracking him a three yard run free in book. It's just basically a tube to wide receiver route with a check down and nobody was open and I mean, absolutely no one. So it's an easy formation and play in which Alabama can defend. They do it easily. Forces he and book to keep the football but he's able to pick up a couple of yards to keep them on schedule second and seven Notre Dame from their own 24 yard line, trailing the number one team in the country by 14 points here in the Rose Bowl, third quarter action Look to pass he comes to the website was big tight, and the freshman Michel Mayor and mayor is gonna have a first down from Notre Dame as he has a 10 yard reception. He is one of the breakout young players in all of college football. First down Irish 35 receptions coming into the game, and you hear you hear me Keep talking about on schedule. Because Notre Dame their goal, every possession is to get to third down in short to medium to five yards a little bit easier to call plays and convert against this outstanding Alabama defense left cash for the Irish from their own 34 yard line, short pitch to the right side to tie reef. High reach tries to find something, but he is met right away by Patrick Search Han the all American cornerback.
