"But some of you are upset about the deal. Others are happy the deal got done happy tax here, but not sure that he's going to go worth the money do they overpay for Dak Prescott? It's a lot of money here the numbers and you hear Patrick Mahomes forty two million a year and Dak Prescott will be just a shade under that right? He's not as much as Mahomes, but he's right there. And so you're thinking your head like, he's not a Patrick Mahomes. What? And I get that he's not he's not even the second best quarterback in the league. It's not even top five though. You could argue some could that he is top five. I'd argue. He's somewhere between five and ten, but as I've talked about go back and listen episodes past like it went from arguably top 15 to definitely top 10 to now arguably top 5 That's unbelievable growth for Dak Prescott. But here's the fallacy of the deal. And here's why if you're one that says and I would say the probably a majority Cowboys fans feel like good quarterback. Is he a great quarterback? Right? That's that's the sort of a lot of delineation, right good quarterback, but do you pay him that much money? And here's the thing. The money doesn't matter right? We'll get we'll get into this is Mike Tannenbaum in a moment, but Like if you're the Cowboys, are you really going to walk away from a deal because you're like well, we think he's thirty-five million a year 36 million a year 37 million year. I mean you're talking about like a very odd like a very small I'm not trying to say a millions of dollars a small amount in the grand scheme of the NFL spending and salary cap and free agency talking about a negligible amount of money like a few a couple of million here there. It's like is that really make the difference here? Is that like like such a better deal if it's a thirty-five million dollar deal which by the way probably could have gotten the deal to it last year definitely could have gotten the deal done a couple of years ago. And obviously the the number has continue to go up. But here is something that's even better about it. And this is something that I didn't know until Michael gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported this after speaking with Todd France tax agent off this came out on Thursday for Michael gehlken. And that is the structure of the deal is such that it's a four-year contract on paper, but the Cowboys were insisted on including avoidable fifth and sixth year off. So it's essentially a six-year deal but those two years are avoidable by either parties here. So it's not really a six-year deal. It's bigger borders before but just follow me why they do a longer-term deal with voidable years the suggestions the smarts of the lawyers and the the the very very intelligent understanding numbers accountants here, right? Because how does a signing bonus worth signing bonuses spread out over the life of a deal so a $66 signing bonus over four years. It's going to be more than a $66 signing bonus stretched out over five years or six years. Now. Here's the rub. You can always give us any bonus over five years..

"Friday December 18th this from the Cowboys meet and seen off as Lydia. I'm already tempted. Would you want my co-host Patrick on in a moment on Twitter at Pat Sports guy course, I'm on Twitter at r e sports sports and the big boss talking about today is don't look now, but the price tag for Dak Prescott, maybe going up going to that in a second, but first make sure to hit that subscribe button if you have not yet already and give us a rating cuz it home we would appreciate you doing that Patrick on our attempt Been Cowboys beat and on today's episode we're going to get into if Mike Nolan has already lost his job. Randy Gregory opens up off. And has the deck Prescott price tag gone up, but let's start with Cowboys and 49ers on Sunday Patrick and Aldon Smith go up against a team like knowing going to it's former team though. The game is in Arlington, and there was a report out from Michael gehlken of the Dallas Morning News that basically Mike Mike Nolan's already lost his job. And there's nothing he can do he's going to be gone at the end of the season change and as we've been talking about and and guilt and gets this too in his piece in the morning news about this but basically like well this isn't just on Mike Nolan Mike Nolan didn't just go up by himself and decide this is Josh. I'm I'm going to run defensively and you can go Rogue. I mean this was put together by you know by both Nolan and McCarthy so they both wear this and you know, I there's a lot of talk about what scheme should they? Should they employ? Who should they hire for DC? But just you know, Patrick first off, what are your thoughts on the report out there that Mike Nolan's already lost his job. I mean, that's what I've been calling for heading it. It's very much. We've talked about this now. This season alone is not just the reason like I I never thought you should have been hired in the first place. Right? But what we're seeing on the field is just an extension of that page like anytime. He's running defense. He's run it into the ground. They were better the year before and then they would progressively get worse. I think this year is a little bit different because it went off entire Cliff wage. Now. Is that a hundred percent on Noland know I mean what percentage is it? I'd say 60% Olan really? Yeah. I put 66. Yes. You're giving the players too much of a pass Patrick 60% Nolan 40% Jaylon Smith. I'm just kidding. I honestly I was home..

"Vegas raiders owner told Michael Gehlken of Dallas morning news the league office the NFLPA at the city in the state are working together making a major decision health and safety will always be number one to make the correct decision they won't put anybody in jeopardy over yet that's mark Davis now we don't know what the NFL is going to do and Chris Moore immediately league meetings are coming up in two weeks and three days in Palm Beach Florida the NFL hasn't made any announcements I don't want to go I'll just tell you right now I don't want to get its look here's the thing when the rest of us know what's happening which is not they're not going to do it yeah and and maybe they don't need to announce it because we all know they're not going to do it but it's like with each passing hour it becomes more and more strains the NFL hasn't said anything like other than we're closely monitoring the situation with the rest of us are closely monitoring weather not the NFL showing proper leadership in this situation and so far if it's past fail it's fail if it's A. through F. grading scale it's F. maybe D. minus the NFL has not done its part to send a message to the rest of us as to how serious this is and they're about to say well that's not our job well you know what when you're dealing with an impression of public debt is looking around for any type of answers we take our cues from how seriously our institutions take right when our sports leagues you know for the sports fans out there who may be inclined to say I it's no big deal when they start taking it very seriously right and there's one you know the dominant sports organization in the nation is silent man that becomes glaring but it does become glaring I mean again that's why I you know get gave Adam silver the NBA a lot of credit for what they did before they went out on a limb and just said no we're just stopping it now we're not going to like play with day injure here and all were still gonna play games they just they said this is better for society this is better for our players is better for our media members that follow the NBA that's where they were great yeah the NBA you know the NFL you know there's nothing huge going on in this moment I I'm with you though I wish they would meanwhile maybe make a few more statements out there because you're right people do follow these type institutions and sometimes these are the things that make the bright lights go on and some guy's brain may be you know somewhere in South Jersey or whatever and goes dead the NFL's doing this and this must be serious hold on let me check the news and see you know that that's the warm tunnel a sportsman can go down if you're not into the news on a daily basis so I'm with you there and then head to the owners meeting to Mike I mean you know one Hey I love being there we get it we get so much great in fall we meet guys you know we get to talk to the coaches in the plan that owners and everything else like that listen but but that but that's a good that's a show just how ridiculous it is for the thing even go forward yes no one's going to want to come sit with us three feet away knowing you and you don't want them sitting away three feet away from you either exactly right I don't you're you're a hundred percent added to the fact that you know were also you know going to a hotel like the good the great breakers there in Palm Beach Florida amazing but as an international hotel who knows how many people have been there from Europe over the last five six months sorry negative ghost rider I don't want to be there and I just hope the NFL yes put something out there to say it's done get over with it and let's go the next thing is like it is where does it go hang on to say I don't think yeah let let let's just put the final pin in the league mia gotcha and then there's no way those are happening because those don't if they don't need to gather right they can do it by teleconference do it by video conference they don't need to all be in the same room part of it is the social reality of it and you take away the social reality it's just exchanging information making decisions and they can make those decisions from their own home so at that it's done that there's no way that's happening the draft is it different yeah animal altogether that's six weeks away and I think the NFL has to take leadership in that regard as well and recognize that they're not going to have a hundred thousand people out on the strip in Las Vegas and those people are just background for the TV show anyway doesn't look great when they pan the camera and you see all those people were in all the different jerseys and up and and it's the Las Vegas Strip in the fountains of the Bellagio and all these other things and that that's not going to be part of the reality so they need to pivot to something else and they need to decide where they're going to do it what will they even do it do you even need to do you don't need to do it you can do it by text message well they have a a theater somewhere where they have a TV studio what players are gonna want to go there I would tell my son don't go rise it just be going to be the commissioner walking up to a podium op thirty times on the first night of the draft so I so look there's a lot of decisions that need to be made and if the NFL has made any they haven't shared them with anyone yet and they need to that they have been overwhelmed by the other sports leagues who have taken action and I know the NFL's not in season right now but the NFL's never really out of season yet and I really am surprised I really am surprised we've gotten at this point I think a copy in a fall flat footed and if they don't do something by noon eastern today man that that is going to be a horrendous look for the National Football yeah well look good and you know I know there's a lot of talk to just the the further down this football time line you know free agency how does this affect it you know I what I'm gonna say more than anything like a lie it delay it delay it okay I really think they should delay I I hear you the one thing I would say and this is a base level it was just about to come out of my mouth there before he's a delay and I got no issue with that either but free agency is one of those things to where you know Hey you you know the guy you've seen him on film I don't know necessarily if you got to it's as important as the draft aspect of meeting players and getting to know them that way because there are known to the NFL at that point yeah you know I I understand the lane for you to see I don't know if this is urgent as now I would say you might have to delay the draft because I have a hard time thinking players are gonna want to make the team visits going to airports go to all these different facilities scouts are they going to want to be going all around to these different schools and work outs in meetings and gatherings and spread germs and do all that so that's where I look at the draft and go oh you know I don't know here can the NFL teams truly get prepared to where they feel comfortable about drafting guys with the current state of where we are in this country in this virus right now well and and looked at the story started to come out yesterday I think we had the first one that explained that that they'll the team's not necessarily office the teams are looking to leave office for guidance here but the teams are asking do we bring the scouts in from the road the assistant coaches are going to produce work outs the coaches the generators you know some of these cut like if your bill ballot check and you're pushing seventy you're getting closer and closer the highest risk possible category you have a very serious outcome if they get corona virus so it it's it's it's time for the NFL to make decisions and let those decisions be known because the world has passed it by it just has and the critical mass happened yesterday it started with the NCAA announcing that its tournament games will happen without fans in attendance and who knows whether or not that even transpires they could cancel that all together and then with the NBA suspending its season I think that's when we all realized Hey you know what it's time for the NFL to do something to say something and it's going to seem ridiculously irrelevant next week Chris when we're talking about who's paying whom how much under a new contract as we still are on the very front end of this tidal wave then hopefully we can try to get in front of and slow down as a people but by next Monday Tuesday Wednesday it's not going to be any better now right we we're just coming to grips with the fact that this thing is here to stay for a while it's going to get worse before it gets better and it will be worse next week and I just think that there's a certain amount or a significant amount of tone deafness that the NFL is going to have with reports of all these millions of dollars changing hands and players joining new teams because I think for the most part people are gonna care yeah well that's a very valid point Mike I'm not gonna lie I can't say that I really thought about it but you're right I mean the life matters are going to take precedent over you know yes even a guy like Tom Brady I mean people yes might not get the attention it deserves it's it's a weird spot so there is there.
