Michael Wilbon on Basketball Hall of Fame Weekend

"Late on sunday night and of the many differences between you and tony kornheiser who goes to bed before nine. Thirty your ability to thrive in the evening that might be. The biggest distinction might be more similar than people know. We're willing to admit a public. But yeah i don't i don't get goin' get two or three o'clock in the afternoon as you already. Yes so when you get going in two or three o'clock and you live out twelve hour just a twelve hour day you've got gotta go to two or three o'clock in the morning. Tony starts at four o'clock in the morning. There's nowhere to go where we go with that. Getting up at four is the craziest thing ever well where he is not going. Mike as of yet at least is where you just were over the weekend because user are officially a member of the basketball hall of fame. I mean i stood After the speech and i looked out there and people are getting a standing ovation yulia serving. And it's charles in it's magic johnson. Like like that's not a reverse situation and mike tyson. Mike is that

"We'll hear from Michael Wilbon from pardon the interruption he'll join US coming up. We Criticize Major, League Baseball for its slow pace of play, but apparently both baseball and the players association capable of moving extremely fast when it comes to shooting down each other's proposals yesterday morning at came out, baseball wanted to play seventy six games players getting seventy five percent of their pay. An hour later we find out that the union was thinking more along the lines of one hundred percent pay for as many games as they can get. So, the dance has been going on for quite some time and every time I. Say to myself I'm not going to engage. NOPE, you're not gonNA. Get me this time around. I'm not going to invest. It's fascinating to see the two sides dig deeper into their stances. At exactly the wrong time. It almost feels like a comedy. And that being said it's a whole lot easier to giggle if they'd figure this out in the end at least a lot more fun baseball. Well, nobody's in a hurry. It feels like they should be because it's no laughing matter, certainly for the loyal fans. and. Yes, we go back and forth on. This feels like we have an arbitrary deadline well. If you don't come back by this date, you're not going to be able to get in X.. Number of games, remember Scott Boris. said. Why don't we play baseball through Christmas? I don't know where Scott was going to play some of those games that involved east coast teams, but he's smarter than I am. So maybe had a better idea here. You got a window here. Your window of opportunity is closing rapidly. Now you might be able to come back, but your window of opportunity is closing from the standpoint of fans are eventually going to say you know what you don't care about us. Why should we care about you? Here comes football nfl college football. NBA is going to be in the sweet spot. They're gonNA. Have Their playoff game. She got marquee players. Did 1998 have to be the last dance for Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls?

"At last we heard Michael Jordan say that from the outset of the nineteen ninety seven ninety eight season it was their last chance Phil Jackson he said could have gone any joint in the regular season and still would not have been back throughout the last dance we were reminded of Jordan's competitiveness and as we watch the end of a ten hour documentary about a team a franchise that just won six titles in an eight year span Michael Jordan was upset he did have a chance to go for a seventh the bulls were broken up the rebuilding began after that nineteen ninety eight championship could they have had one more in the could they have kept the team together if they tried ESPN's Michael Wilbon Jackie MacMullan I would bet on Scotty Michael and Phil Jackson anytime anywhere let's start with that but here's the problem Phil and Jerry Krause Scott their relationship was untenable by that point so there was no way Phil was going to come back if you don't have still come back then who's going to control Dennis robin even

'The Last Dance:' Debate over Michael Jordan's trash talking on 1997-98 Chicago Bulls

"More discussion this morning. Of course about the last dance the legacy of Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls teams of the nineteen nineties and whether or not the way Jordan governed that group demanded of them held them accountable. Some might say bullied them was fair. Michael Wilbon who covered Jordan Bulls and knows Jordan about as well as anyone in the media. This side of a moderate shod. Join Max Steven A. And discussed the question was Michael Jordan. Too tough on his teammates. What were your thoughts when you heard. What Charles Barkley had to say about Michael Jordan In regards to his treatment of his teammates. Well look everybody's gotTa take on. Michael and how? Ruffy was teammates. Select Selective Prosecution. Was the words he used select. Prosecution said look everybody had a different leadership style. Reason part of the reason for this documentary reasoning exists is because Michael decided okay. I'm going to be able to sort of control the conversation in terms of why I did what I did and how I did it. I it comes out and says hey you know you've had this conversation with them. He wasn't trying to adopt anybody else's leadership style. He was going to do this his way. And when it worked then you had to. You heard him during. I thought the most effective part of the last dance department made me reach for a notebook and put my reporter hat back on his when Michael Said you know. Winning has a price. And if you don't want to buy into the mentality. I am using here. Get out it's GONNA be. It's GonNa be hell for you. I think was the phrase. And so you see all those teams that you see will produc- Winnington and those guys say at the time that we did it. Seem like he crossed the line. Yes as went on. Did we think he was a great teammate? Yes this is not look you can have whatever take you. WanNa have on it and I understand Charleston's take because it was different but nobody else in their time as much I mean magic and Kareem on the way in but it worked and so I even sit. There does interesting mom watching in real time I have not. I did not watch all the episodes of advanced like most people in our business. I wanted to watch in real time with my son. Who's a twelve year old basketball player and his eyes so big? When Michael says certain things to his teammates we are watching the unedited version The watch the PG rated version of the DEUCE and he's like. Wow Dad he has to do that with his teammates. And I'm like I don't know if he had to but it worked they won and that's the bottom line right. There is the quote that tells you at all they won in Jordan's way worked. Max made a great point during the you know there was no Celtics Lakers rivalry. There wasn't because Jordan he was Roy Jones. He was so good. There were no equals. No rivals

"You know for one of the things I would tell students at any journalism one on one class. You get it wrong if you're inaccurate then apologized corrected. Get apologize if you got it wrong and I get so. Does that mean that they were like every single guy was waiting to welcome? Isaiah on Miller didn't mean that but my take away from all this orgin yours too is that it's amazing that I I'm glad to hear guys say on camera. This was like summer camp for them and they just start recanting. Thought they're going to have a good time. I don't know that they were in advance. They were having the impact on basketball. Globally they were going to recreate they. Were going to be the greatest marketing push or maybe any sport has ever seen for for for six weeks time. But I don't I don't know that they knew that going in. They wanted to play golfing. They night they wanted to the best restaurants. You know magic still goes to he. Goes there every summer magic summer vacation? Every summer I've even been I've been last summer. I was there for part of it. Magic's event I was there for part of it. She goes every every loves it. It is the greatest time of their lives. So but I don't know that they knew that going in you know it was it was a it was an assignment a great when it was a privilege it was summer camp but man attorney now sure. Did Michael Wilbon here Costa with Tony Tony Kornheiser on? Pardon the interruption and you could also check out. Michael's columns every single Monday about the previous last dance undefeated dot com. He's here on the rich Eisen. Show last one for you on this. You said you spoke to Jordan a couple of weeks ago. Look the footage has been sitting there apparently in the NBA Vault for forever and they needed. Jordan's okay Jordan gave the okay. Why do you think he gave the okay? Why do you think the last answer exists? I I know why actually 'cause that was. You know I sort of thought I knew why once he did say yes. And then there's direct direct question answer I mean. He a big part of a rich. I'm sure there's you know You sat him down a B two dozen reasons but stole much of Michael knows that so much of what has talked about it with his hip among young players today's NBA players people. Talk about how how hard he wasn't teammate. And we'll talk about fight and the practice by the way as you know to a lot more than thirty five years ago. They do now and so his style of leadership how hard. He wasn't a play what he said to the whole story. The story about scarborough all that stuff. Michael always thought when people like me and other people I mentioned said. Hey can can I put this on the record? We talk about this week. No I don't WanNa do that. Why not because people are not gonNA understand? They're not going to understand. Why did what I did at the time I did it. It's been years ago now. Whatever the compensation was eight years ago years ago fifteen now. Twenty and jason after the system. Okay you you don't think people will understand you're probably right. Make them understand. This is your chance. Why not take the chance to make them understand to sit down and explain to people why you did what you did the way you did. And Michael Said Yeah so so. Did you like what this is an did when you spoke to a couple of weeks ago does he like it? Appreciate is a wait and see mode. He's nothing flip which I'm GonNa take being flipped and funny and he just said. I really hope doing this. It's GONNA show some people why things unfolded the way. They did why I did some that. Something happened where they did. And he pauses. If if it doesn't then I will just wasted everybody's talking. Well I guess in that regard. I love that because I I mean in regards to that. Michael I think the next couple weeks is GONNA be the payoff. Certainly with his first retirement coming to the fore in what people believe was behind his first retirement as opposed to what what What has already been laid out. About leading up to the post. I three P. I guess we're going to get to that right over the next calling me some of that already. I think again. There's just bits and pieces of things that I remember that the real at the time. Thinking is pretty fascinating. And there's some of US individually rich again. People who were around at the Michael got to know after a period of years and I mean years he might he might say to you it all throughout the conversation his. I deal with I. Here's what I think is the reason that I again. I'm not the only one who would say listen. I write about that talk about that and he would say no. No no no. I don't I don't want to deal with this publicly. I don't think people don't understand and it was very you know. Reasons thought out and explained that the time and I didn't think it was ever really GonNa Happen I. I didn't expect to see. I didn't know they had this is. I didn't know in the details of that but I just didn't think that he would necessarily sit down. I think the real I thing Michael Jordan. Just sit with a cigar and talk about all these things you know Dennis Rodman and their relationship and what happened to Time. All of that stuff I think the the real power in the documentary is seeing a God. Who was the most famous person in the world for x? Number of years? Talk about the INS and outs of why this stuff happened. That's that's the attraction. I have to it even having known some of it me to Michael. I mean it's been amazing and then just to see him talk about how Clyde Drexler was was a problem for him entering an NBA finals but irritated him to be compared and have him compared Have Drexler compared to him? It just shows you how incredibly competitive he was and what a totally different different athlete competitor. He is compared to so many others in Do you give credence to the fact that Jordan agreed to do this on the day. Lebron one in Cleveland. Do you give any credence. That Jordan was kind of firing a shot across the current generations. Barton okay none. I mentioned this is off the record thing which he would probably frown at me. But Tony but I'm gonNA tell it so. There are times earlier in earlier in Lebron's career and sort of sprinkled throughout where let's people got critical of Lebron whether it was the decision or whether it was a play passing off the Donyell Marshall. Whatever if people people think Michael Jordan Presents Laurent to me? There's evidence that country in that there'd be a phone call like I answered the phone and this is what I hear on the other hand. Hey don't take a shot at Lebron. Just garbage this kid is great. There's no need to take a shot at him and the okay and he's with that guy is playing out with him. Knowing is not going to be repeated is not gonNa be told on P. is not going to be written about in the Washington Post or ESPN DOT com. And so those that happened and that happened with with young players that Michael light like a occasionally somewhere between occasionally infrequently you know defend Russell Westbrook Steph curry early on people. Think you know there are certain players that Michael Call to? Hey Hey hey stop the not. This is not this or if he knew. I knew the person didn't tell you boy from this. Lebron is GonNa be the one of the great players of all time so the notion that Michael resented the resents Lebron where he planned it out that first of all it goes against everything else were saying. I mean people. Think it plugs into the competitiveness angle. I I don't think that plugged there at all. 'cause you don't when Michael Talks about taking on the players it was on the court Clyde Drexler the bad boy pistons. It's on the court and he remembered. Rhonda's proclaimed himself the greatest devil. He that on his own platform Michael in an interview with me on that appeared. Seventeen live on sportscenter rich the morning of his hall of fame induction. Michael said you can look it up on Youtube. He says I am never. I'm never going to consider myself that. I'M NOT GONNA say I'm better than Bill. Russell Kareem or magical. Larry I think with the four players you named or the named Julius as well and he said I'm not gonNA cause I said to him is important you to for you to be known as the greatest player ever. He said No. I'm not even going to say that people can look that clip up. I haven't actually on my instagram page. And so it it. I've heard this theory but it does. It goes against what I know. He thinks about Lebron just like these thirty to stop talking about Kobe and now they find out people thought he bought a certain thing about the collins. Like you wanted to get rid of the College. They find out how stupid that narrative is. There was wrong. He loved the college. He didn't even want Phil Jackson which he said he wanted to play. Duck so continued to play for Doug so my take on it and it's just mine is that I don't believe that and I have not asked Michael about let me be fair. I have not asked him about the timing of the yes and Lebron but what I know the he thinks about Lebron how great things brought is i. I don't I don't see it that way. Michael I love it I just a couple more a couple quick hitters for you before I let you go first. How many episodes with the last dance of Mitchell trubisky be I read? How many episodes so call up and I WANNA come back and talk about yes. Whatever happens happens with trubisky of this falls and I I feel bad for Trubisky I I mean you know. He's got a coq doesn't want to coach him his coaches and Kansas City. When Patrick Mahomes the rookie and coached him he wants to Br Patrick Mahomes when it comes to biscuit and now too busy being taken down by children. Gm Won't back really. Not Really I think this is awful. I mean this e- I never thought they should've I. It was a bad to me. It was a bad deal. Trade up to get trubisky. Just take him to take when you take them you would have. You had to pay. And it wouldn't have put all this pressure on him and it wouldn't have recast him in a way to to people talk constantly about what they the the capital spend to get him. But what's happening with? Bisky now man this just wrong. It's wrong rich I you know. I don't care what people say I know. All the executives will defend other executives. His Ron Tree trubisky. This way. It's wrong to publicly and you know what if they coach him? Hard to use the Michael Jordan phrase if coach him hard and he's not up to it then let him go. They allow V. But they haven't done that they haven't done that. This guy doesn't coach. I know that from players who were in Kansas City at the time either. Want to coach him so he wants to somebody else. So just be honest and say that. But I'm now like the. I'm like last person defending miss. I wouldn't miss too busy to have a fair chance. I think there's more talent in him than apparently they do. A nate up they trade they move heaven and earth to trade up up ahead of Patrick Mahomes Shawn Watson. They made that move and now they can't. I can't stand when people vaunt.

"Asked me all the time. And I'm I'm grateful that I had the access to talk to Michael Scottie. Instill Jackson in Steve Kerr. The people that are famous to famous. And he you know he gets there. And I'm like you Ron Harper either. Meet Ron Harper Window. And let's face it. Ron Harper Ron Harper. Is like encyclopedic knowledge about this stuff. You don't you don't know that unless you give it a chance. And by the way talk. Talk about the hassle out and talk about a guy who people don't realize how good he was before injuries got his stuff. Who Ron Harper was a stud? Yes he was and just knows the game. I mean to me like I asked Ryan. Why don't you coaching like all the way up in the golf course more than even Mike and but he is? He was one of the people who's encyclopedic. And if you're not getting to know those tons of people when you're covering a sport what the Hell what the hell do it if you just tweet. Golf brings me to my last question and I'll let you go because I asked you. Have you ever golf with Michael? Because that would be a bucket list experience for me as golf with Michael. Although I do not make enough money to golf with Michael Jordan but you said You well. That's true I wouldn't even get on the course of them You said no but you have. I think you said you do have a story about Michael. Trash talking to you on a golf course. Please tell that I have no idea where this is going. Tell that story plan in the Bahamas in his tournament. I'm grateful to bed. Been invited to participate in several in Bahamas. I'm playing with your own bets on Sunday. And we're planning against Ken. Griffey junior alonzo mourning. It's fun as competitive. I am the fourth person in that group in terms of skill level. At all with that I was probably eleven or on Sunday. And I'm standing over Brian Putz trying to win. An across. Like bonker comes Michael. And he's saying he knows I can't make the but I'm not even Flanigan's Tim Glenn. Against Griffey Junior Alonzo mourning and it was just. It was great and I think one of the reasons I got access to Michael. I grew up on the south side of Chicago with a lot of wood. A lot of people talk a lot of trusts was an art. It was it wasn't art is an art. So people like Michael and hearing Larry Bird Jerry Peyton Europeans on my take. Replace them all the time. It's an art and if you got it and you can laugh or you could smile even the moment when it was being directed at you got a twinkle out of that they they knew you were okay. They knew your. This guy gets his not intimidated. He's laugh and even though I'm coming out on and that is what I love about the moment. I was playing pickup basketball. He's basketball. I wasn't around the Bulls bullets for that stuff written horn one of my favorite of all time speaking of distance backwards. And you had to take back. That's an initiation you can't take the trash talking. What are you doing here? You're not really you're part of Florida. Maybe that's not a part of the culture of mine and so gin trash-talk by India. I was laughing. I made the PUTT. As you say Jamaica. What's the what's the deal? I made the. I didn't make many that day. I can't Miss Rightish Putz which which cost some laughter later but yeah so that's my only no. I am I gonNA rapid. I'm grateful to have been invited. Included in his tournaments is charity tournaments. A great and then it's just. I Bet Griffey was a scratch golfer. Most unbelievable swing swing either. Of course a lot of gall is not authored by Golfer. It's game so grew griffey's a little bit jordan-esque in that the minute you saw him jog. You were just like well. That's the coolest thing I've ever seen. Nobody people don't move like that. He's a great. This is golf. Swing the prettiest. Obviously I've ever seen and I. I've said that to him. He's like stop. Stop Stop It. Isn't it actually is just you wonder at it so you? So that's the only trash talk. I mean there's other trash talkers softening me. That's a great scene last night. I don't know who the journalist was a columnist deducting to head in the training room joining those good Karma Bobby Day. We're good plenty of that travel shirt under such crappy wrote this morning and again you know if you could not have to give and take with that like seriously you took yourself too seriously Mike you've given us way too much time. So you're going to write for the undefeated the Monday after every episode. Is that every airing. I think too hard. I don't do this anymore. I was told people. Writing Writing Hurts my brain writing I used to. I mean look. I loved writing after events. Where the anything in my life I was there for Holyfield having his ear cross ring like tootsie roll and I wrote a column that night about forty minutes. I was proud while Jaycees four hours so yes I'm GonNa do this but we don't do it every day you lose it and I'm in lost it off. Well you wrote a great piece on Rodman and Michael's relationship today at the undefeated and keep doing it. We want to hear it and we want. This is a landmark event. And you're a part of it so I appreciate you making time people can i? I feel ridiculous. People can watch them on pizza. Yeah no we can watch Michael Wilbon. Thank you for your time a stay safe. "The whole that's upgrading wasn't naked. So the Smith stuffed game to me is one of the most consequential games of the last twenty five years in the NBA. And because the Bulls lose the first two games of that series and then win the next four. And that's the one where you just know once they get that game in New York. There's no chance. Knicks are going back to Chicago and getting game six so I wonder it's actually relevant. Now's on thicky about it? Because the knicks were kind of the the next bad boys. They were the team that took the mantle of the Babar. So did did and they were really. I mean to go up to Jordan team. I don't think that anyone else go up on that. Cleveland in eighty nine. Yeah once they started winning one one by one shoot. They went ninety one. Eight hundred six hundred so so two questions number one. I don't know if there's something to remember from the aftermath of that game other than your brother taunting everybody in Manhattan and be. Do you think that what was your read on? Like Michael respect those teams as much as he did or did he feel a similar sort of like they're playing. They're playing dirty basketball like the Pistons did. Yeah I remember. I remember the phrase dirtying up the game but the the the the the hatred for the Knicks was nowhere near the hatred for disappointing. My feeling does no matter how much you can hate. The Knicks symbolically are. Institutionally is too much respect for Pat Riley early on and I know penalty because one of those next right. He four coaches. I think I think he'd be riles. He beat Van. Gundy he'd be like I don't know who else he beat Patino. Yeah somebody else. I don't think you'd be diagnosed only lasts longer. Bp I think he'd be fortunate searches but he but he had too much respect for them and it wasn't as personal as it was the Pistons the Pistons. The Knicks didn't have a guy like laimbeer. I can't overestimate your load. Some laimbeer was I cannot. I can't I mean there's nobody on the Knicks who was that. Doc WHO Attorney Hopefully Tomorrow. Open you've been there the Riley had to issue an edict to not you know fraternize with Jordan. So back back in the be. It just wasn't it wasn't as bad but man. They had a chance to beat them in the Knicks. When the Knicks couldn't beat the Bulls in game? Five look they? They got outplayed by study the next year in game five and still they couldn't be. I don't care what the series said. They outplayed them and they couldn't get through it. And I thought I was the one thing that didn't allow the Knicks to get all the way through to wit. I feel bad for Patrick about well. I feel bad for a lot of guys who had the misfortune of playing during Jordan's diamond. Didn't gatherings you mentioned pippen. I'm curious I told you about this. I went back and read a column of yours from nine. Hundred Ninety four after pippen sits out the game that cuco ends up winning in the conference semifinals against the Knicks. Were you said you would hear players. You weren't calling them. This you would hear players Whisper Scottie. Pippen is a punk. I'm wondering I wanted to know more about that. How like you would really hear that. And you and and be you said your Percy you said in an interview somewhere I read. Your personal opinion of Pippin has evolved over time to the point. You think you're maybe too low on him during his career. I know I've said Scottie. In this goes back fifteen years. Maybe he was at the end in Portland or meetings back with the balls and I assume I'm sorry for some of the stuff I wrote. Nobody asked me to say I could not set you know what I I think. I know him well enough to know. These things did hurt him and they were unnecessary and they were wrong. They were wrong. I mean who wants to be judged on their worse phone and again if you only have that moment okay. If all you've got is a game we played badly against the Pistons in one. Four eleven the migraine game. Yeah and if you had this thing with coach that's all you have. Then you know what there's no Scotties is resumes so enormous so enormous the Bulls won no championships without starting tipping. He's just is not just a great robin he's a great player the next year he could have been the. Mvp Conversation Kimia Akeem was MVP. I believe I want to say off. The top of my head Scotty Finish third in the voting. He was great he was. Mvp affect the All Star game. I think you're right about that. I don't Pale. It was it was so great. He was great on the way up with Michael. He was so great to put up an Jerry. Krause is such a villain. I'm sorry I know he's dead. He can't answer for himself. Jerry was a bad guy in that context. It was when your owner says you were trying to get short shrift. The number two guy in the history of this franchise you can't you can't tell. The story of the Bulls in the last dance without saying crosses the villain. You just can't not in my way of seeing it and Scotty is too bad. He's just too great a player. He's the most under appreciated player of his time. Even now even with all of that. The Elgin Baylor was the most under appreciated player of all time. That's that's a great name for that designation by the end the further back we go the further alley. Go in time. People are just not even they're not gonNa name let alone his impact on the game series act and then he was so good starting point guard he was the point guard. Obviously my son says why do you always say that? When the cur- John Packs no no no they were wing players. They were wings shooters and they were great and what they did and they might have to guard you the point that sometimes to Magic Johnson. But what what you just said is important because I I was just. I was interviewing bill for a story the other day. And you know Jordan wanted defensive player of the year Rodman's two-time defensive player of the year. Bill Cartwright who sort of the old sage on those early teams and coach for the later teams the second three P. teams will tell you. There's question who the best defensive player on the team was. It was Scotty and he said if you look back at our series whatever the problem was fills answer was throw. Scott it just go wherever it is throw Scott. It is uncool completely unappreciated Studying Horse Horse. The dobermans were did not involve this Robert. Dobermans were Michael Scottie. And horse and that was the first great defensive trio that became and this is a leading to now. We're talking about then. It became it became. How were you going to score when Harper Jordan Pippen at Rodman or I've guys on the court find your Longley or you go at Ku coach at the other four guys? We're going to be there helping and Swiping it passing. What are you going to do? Well that's why when people start talking about the the warriors well the warriors it killed ables shut the F. Oh Wow makes that. The warriors couldn't how could they well none of those? None of those teams are going to kill any of those without the answer competition so the first thing I will not tell people to shut up is just stop. Nobody's GonNa kill Michael Jordan's team now you've got Jordan Rodman Pippen Harper. You got the. They took guard every position. People guarding position switching the bulletin switch. Zeta half wasn't played that way. Then you got on your man. You stay in his book. Isaiah talks about that by the way. Is there talks very eloquent. Thomas about that as Lord. John's Day all right. So when you have those four guys out here. I'm sorry. Who's guard them? Who's GonNa Guard Michael and Scott? I know Kevin Durant a great defender Klay Thompson. Great defender so find to be a match but don't tell me that the wolves four couldn't guard anybody playing today so when Isaiah says wait couldn't guard you know Cleveland or Miami Health. They couldn't well I was I was watching. I've been watching a little bit of the Pacers Bulls Conference finals from Austin season. And think about fig about being Reggie Miller Ron Harper starts on you. Because you know we don't WanNA get Michael Tired. Let's have Ron Harper. Start all right. Ron Harper expended some energy. Michael you take them for five minutes and just in case Scotty can take think about being. Reggie Miller says there's no break it's just one after another of WHO's ever fresh is going to lose your life his greatness. I'm afraid is getting out to Reggie Miller. Reggie ran off my Dharamsala Pinball. And he's still had the energy lading games in that game six to win that game with a jump shot in the plus. That's that team is totally forgotten. Because you go distance Knicks places but the Pacers actually played the game once. Michael became a champion. What's Michael Study? The the Pacers were the threat that game seven. They were ahead late night game. Reggie Reggie was magnificent but yeah but up with those those defensive teams ables had. I said to Michael. Once and I can't believe this last night I think I really delved into it. I I was into Michael. The Ninety two teams greater than ninety sixty and he would say to me. You lost your mind and I would say no. Horace grant is a better all around basketball player. Dennis Rodman Robin Shock. Forty six percent that year shop. Fifty three percent from the line is five points. A game was like fifty. Eight fifty eight correspondent. He shot seventy four from the line. He averaged fourteen points and he was a great defender. Who did not turn rebounding into a selfish statistic or he was a great player for exactly what they were doing. I'm not saying he will look. We know Robyn did one thing better than anybody else generation which was grabbed the damn ball possessions everything but anyway. I will say this to Michael. And now he would let me go on like. I just did with you. And then he would say on. Throw you out of the of the locking Toyota doing what I WANNA annoying. The low post coverage of the last dance is brought to you by state farm. When you want the real deal like a good neighbor. State farm is their coverage is also brought to you by. At and T..

I said then when I got here in the city that we'd be champions by the time I leave time champion going for six. If we never win another we certainly gonNA wind six months and we need joe support. Thank you very very much. What was he like as a player during that final season? How is he different from previous years? He wasn't as spectacular as he was. You know in those situations. My son is twelve and he goes back with some anytime you start to say. We'll say stuff like that. You know who was a better dunker than Michael Jordan? I'm like stop right there. Get you to call nineteen eighty five. Go to Patrick Ewing and the Knicks and the guard in the playoffs game. Whatever it was starts Ewing Oakley twice. You get just go to that and then shut up prima leader. No don't remember. They don't know kids don't Know Zion was born when the last occurred. They don't know they don't know that they weren't as good as him they weren't they don't know that they can't don't like him. They can move like him. They can't play with either hand by they can't defend like invade and I'm gonNA include the best of today's players. They weren't they can't and so they're going to see that nobody interview by. Nineteen Ninety seven ninety eight question. It was more gamesmanship involved. He couldn't physically do exactly during a nineteen ninety one. And so you know sometimes say to me. Well Dad Union scores Twenty Harden. No you didn't. You didn't keep the ball to go between his later. Twenty two seconds. He didn't people people call them a ball. People dip you as I say to myself people called Michael off by tell you what I would not pay to watch James Heart. I I WANNA see that. Wow I don't want to see that and there are players and I say that with I mean James. Harden is a great player a first ballot hall of fame. I ain't paying to see that people pay to see and now they don't know any. James Hardie was spectacular. Watches magic or Michael. They are fools and they need to go to youtube but Jordan Jordan. By last year he did not have that but he had some males that that. That's that turnaround jumper. That's fadeaway the guile with which he played the the intellect which year corporated Scotty and Ron Harper and Rodney Dion Rodman to toe the line. For two three years. We will seriously do that. What are you hoping to learn from this series about.

"Michael Take us all the way back. When was the first time you remember seeing Michael Jordan Play Basketball House carbon the ACC for the Washington Post? I saw Michael early on early on in person. In cozine Smith people like to make fun of Dean Smith and say the only person to hold on the Twentieth Dean Smith. The the person may be the one of the few coaches gotten him to have. That Foundation is Dean Smith. I wrote a piece more. Michael told me that the three most important minute his life where his father dean Smithfield jets and I get that. I got to see Michael. Way More than most people as a freshman in college because that's when college basketball's truly region and he was developing and he's grown and now we are ready for the third pick and the Chicago Bulls who have been trafficked very high down through the years and they have the third pick. Today the Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan -versity of North Carolina after he was drafted. When did you first realized that he was going to be a franchise altering player for your squad probably about a month in? I remember I remember calling my brother who is a season ticket holder. This Day in Chicago feels Chicago Stadium. I remember calling. My brother gave me Couldn't see the game didn't know what was going on and I remember. Seeing him will join get thing not a bad opening performance. Of course you're looking. Make an impact on his or her like. Oh my God since this could be different but it was like what am I? What am Michael? Do and right then. Everybody started doing that every night. When in Jordan would it Michael? I talked to my brother pretty much every night. Every time the Bulls play and they weren't that great or anyone to five hundred. They made the playoffs. Jordan what would the Bulls do? What did Jordan? What was the reaction from people around the League? His play in those early days. Well remember then. It was a mixed bag. There were people in the conservative basketball community. Thought he shot too much as a ball hall. Daddy two way too many shots you know coming in it was. He's not going to have a jump shot. Well that was alive in well. We don't play a basket. I mean you've okay. Yeah right and so but there was still look that dog Michael for years that that wasn't the first year there were people who won at the highest level. Who would say you know issue? Thanks a lot of shots. Done Trust is teammates. That was going around a chill. They got to the Conference Finals. Against Detroit. That was going around till dinner. People didn't think he could win. That Michael could win like that. Magic came out once and said Michael Jordan is not only the best basketball player. But he's the most exciting basketball player that ever played we. We only dream about doing things that he can do that. He just said it the fact that magic and bird didn't by this other garbage. I think that had a lot to do with change in perception one of the facets of Jordan's career that's covered in the. Dr Michael is not just his life on the court but his life off of it his brand how big he got. I'm wondering what was it like covering him. Because of that because of how famous he was well it like increased exponentially meaning when he came back after the the year and a half away at sell out crowd and Adele use of cameras and commentary both foreign and domestic appeared in playoff like force demonstrating. What can happen to just another regular season game when a superstar comes out of retirement the nineteen eighty through nineteen ninety-three Michael that grew gradually. Then he came back and people say well. He's like Iraq's no no he wasn't like a Rockstar. Rockstars are looking to be like him and I remember. I remember two incidents one. I'm sitting on a flight going to Chicago before playoff game in ninety six and I'm sitting next to this is not. This is not a fictional story is a real story. I'm sitting next to a nun and we're talking about why we're going to Chicago and I told her I'd gone to Saint Ignatius College. Prep Nice Little Jesuit school. Had She knew a lot about new people that taught me talking about a lot of different stuff in a conversation rolls around as every conversation man did to the Bulls if you were living in Chicago and she was so anyway we we talk for a while and then she said you gotTa give me ten minutes to do something. I don't know what she was talking about. Was IT turns out. She was writing a letter to Jordan. Your letter to Michael in her seat and at the end of this you handed to meet you. Put in our below. She wrote his name on it and she said I'm asking you a favor. You please give this to Michael Jordan now. L. O. OKAY. I never do stuff like that. I just never do so I go. I go to locker room pre game and I go over. And Media's being kicked out and I said Look I've never done this. I have to give you this envelope from a nun. And he just chuckled. I'm sure he has no memory of this at all nor shitty and he said Okay and I never asked him if he read. I never asked him what it said. A non gave me an envelope. But that's how big came on the back end the other one I've written about in the Washington Post when along limousine pulls up. Jordan's third game back I believe was in Washington capital center and a guys Asha or something. He rolls under window. Speak to Tim Hallam. Who was the Bulls Veterans Savvy? I get a smile just thinking about him. Pr Guy during the Jordan years and beyond to this day and he said. Can I speak to tim how to like Tim? How and as a woman in a window those back down in the back and she's wearing a tr she's sitting in the back and this attache says. I'm here. This is the crown princess of some country. If she would like to Mr Jordan. And you're like this is not happy. I am standing here with pen and paper. This is a common overseen. What I'm standing around. This is your rifles right time and this is doing shoot around. So it's like eleven o'clock in the morning eleven o'clock drives out from embassy row with this attaches she's in the back with trm. And how looks at this guy? Says Buddy is a crown princess every city that delayed laugh. You had is. That's what I D. I didn't take time to laugh. I just start writing stuff down and it was on my column in The Washington. Post the Knicks. They I am sure and it must have been in the playoffs like a few weeks later and Michelson me. Why why did you do that? What did you write that might? That's come on the great stories like that. That was you people. You killed this woman when you do this and it was this. This is what it became. This is what it became on the other side. It became this obsession that people had and there's nothing like people can think there's something like it the it is everybody's accessible now. People tweet people on instagram. You could see everything about them. All the time abroad. You can find peace of upon everywhere all the time. Kfi Jordan every regional is inside of his house white. You'll see pictures of him to pose with his family. You didn't know every body had people didn't know that it wasn't tweeted out. It wasn't public and so it's different. There wasn't anybody likes him? And because of the nature of communication and the world. There ain't GonNa be anybody else like if you guys remember in nineteen eighty four when they drafted Michael Jordan to the students Chicago. You've never experienced. Say then when. I got here in the city that we'd be championed by the time I leave. We five time champion going for six. If you never win another we certainly GonNa win the six and we need your support. Thank you very very much. What was he like as a player during that final season? How is he different from previous years? He wasn't as spectacular as he was. You know and they'll seasons I've been my son is twelve and he goes back with any time you start to say we'll say stuff like that you know who was a better dunker the Michael Jordan. I'm like stop right there. You get the call go to nineteen and you spy. Go to Patrick Ewing the Knicks in the garden and the playoffs game. Whatever it was starts Ewing Oakley twice. You just go to that. Shut up. No remember they don't know kids don't know. Ziad wasn't born when the last dance occurred. They don't know they don't know that they weren't as good as him they weren't they don't know that they can't don't like him. They can't move like him. They can't play with either hand by they can't defend like daycare and I'm GonNa include the best of the today's players they weren't they can't and so they're gonna see that by the end of it by nineteen ninety seven hundred eighty s your question. "What kind of descent was there around that headed into the nineteen ninety seven season? You know I don't know that there was any dissent other than scotties dissect. Scotty there's a lot of question marks about what's going to happen with this team next season if you could look past the euphoria of tonight about yourself. How comfortable are you with the idea of returning here? Next year. I feel pretty comfortable. I had my hands my fingers and everything crawls that we were going to win the championship and everybody will be back would be a happy family again so I feel pretty good about our chances of keeping this ball up together. Scotty was a great player to me. The longer we go away from that whole you know six championship period nate years further. We move away from it. The more embarrassed I am that I was part of the chorus of voices. Adequately appreciate Scottie Pippen. He's one of the great players of all time. Not just the hall of fame or not just a guy who was assigned to us one of the great players of all time. We can see that now that we look at all players. Say Oh this guy so great right you really. Because he's not as good as Scotty and just how hard it was playoff Michael to play off a great great great player. Very few people understand how great that is as you have the ability to do it. What were Jordan's thoughts on Scotties contract and whether the roster should be rebuilt at all? I don't know that twenty years ago twenty years. Not like you know five lifetimes I don't. I don't know that people talk about other people's contracts like this that we know twitter was no daily discussion of this and I don't know that we even ask as much about it. We might ask a guy about his own contract whether he was going to hold out. Come back or need to be traded. You did. There was some of that but there wasn't a daily obsession with it that we have now in concert reporting of inconstant happening is it just wasn't and Michael didn't want to rebuild. It was a great line. He had I don't know if this will be in the dock or not and he said I'm GonNa be build rebuilding guarantee. Mobile is going to be two or three four five years cubs rebuilding for forty two years. His just unbelievable laughter from the People Listening. So just do the map. The cubs have been the world series in nineteen forty five and forty two years later. Well it wasn't nineteen was. He was about ten years short. Maybe at the analogy with the analogy was right on the money. Rebuilding didn't mean anything. Now Jerry Krause might have thought Jerry. Krause that a lot of himself. I mean. Sorry I don't WanNA speak ill of the dead but Jerry. Krause on a lot of himself. He was dammed but it what he did but he wasn't as good and what he did is Michael Jordan and studied pippen until Jackson is. What they wanted was fine rebuilding. Wanted to eat. Thought he could take the picks and go out and do anything. And as we've seen subsequently that's not exactly chase jerry krause who was the GM of the Bulls during this era. How is he perceived at the time it inside the organization well? His owner thought a lot of changes. Some nice work. He did not draft Michael Jordan. But he was there for sort of the rearranging of the team. A little bit with opening up playing time for Horace Grant is one of the Unsung heroes of those first championship. Teams Bringing Bill Cartwright in shipping out Jordan's favorite team made at the time Charles Oakley. There's a lot of that stuff that Jerry prowse the draft night setting in up to get Scottie. Pippen and Horace grant a lot of stuff did it was great but also there was some derision with him he got the nickname crumbs. Krause from Michael Jordan does it crumbs on his suit all the time. What's he was eating simply towanda being a mess and it was like it's like the pig pin character and Charlie Brown. The players looked at him as sort of you know maybe they have respect for nature. What he did me also thought he was. Sorta obnoxious guy without and you know there was quite a range of thought of Jerry Cross so going into the season. There's tension between bulls management and the players about whether to rebuilt Michael Jordan is thirty four years old and he is thinking about his own career trajectory. He's got five championships under his belt. What was his mindset like before the season when another one I mean he said you know I think in the same press conference where he said something about clubs for forty two years. You wait until somebody beats you. We're entitled to the Fan where WE HAVE UNTIL WE LOSE. Lose it then you look at it and you say okay less changes. It was pretty simple. Nobody can beat us now. We took care the Pistons. We got them article. We'd be somebody who I know. He had supreme respect for Magic Johnson. It'd be a team with all the famous Clyde Drexler and age and tear reporter the Charles Barkley our team that was loaded with great players and Phoenix. Ninety three the Jerry Payton and Shawn Champ shirks entirely could being Stockton Malone.

Hey listen I was wondering 'cause we call Jimmy Johnson because he has a team in Scar without a spider without the COOCHIE. What are people doing his home? He wouldn't be as dominant as he was. And as far as police questioning went earlier. If you call a sport event to going your way personally Chris Webber time. I still wake up all my God. That's how we had them ladies. Well I don't know if you had him but that you still needed a shot to win but thank you and the fact. That see web embraced. It and named his foundation is company. A timeout. I thought was a great way to embrace. That is a Michael Wilbon. Such a join us not yet we're tracking now. We'll buy okay. I see so working on that as we speak while Fritzy also has the trigger fired up and I think we got Michael Wilbon here. Michael how are you doing? And I'm good. How you hanging in their house. The home situation Well you know a little different. I think than most people that That may be experiencing back east. I'm I'm in China and You you just. Seeing the sun for me is different than the first few days of this when I was back when I was back in. Dc IN CHICAGO. The seeing the sun and having a and you know who knows. There's certain should we talk to people? medical experts huge bed. The one that we the people talking about in their community keep talking about May June is that you know these viruses historically I mean even the worst ones have been seasonal while they use the willing feasible before virus. And they're hoping that that plays a part so and warm and so that's not necessarily while I'm here but it's a whole lot better than being you know forty degrees in rain and just the depression and the reality of what would it deal with right now. So here It's been going well and We're doing some segments of the show Every day I haven't studio otherwise essentially empty. Just a fee anybody. Even though I'm sure empty and It's it's well and when do you guys think that you'll back on the air on? Pardon the interruption Dan. You know what it it. It hasn't come up like Lynn. We might Do the show as as has existed for eighteen plus years is supposed to do a segment of the show on Sports Center. It has not. I haven't asked me. I'm sure it's come up with with the big boss. He how that works. I have not been happy doing The of the show. That would do it now. I know that's really are this week and I would suspect that but beyond that I don't know because I don't know you know so much. Determined by what companies feel comfortable with their employees with their staffs doing. And that's about me. I just don't there's you know to the speculate on even the ask it like. Hey guys when we get back to the show and nobody knows and so I just don't concern myself with it at this point not yet he's Michael Bondi Co host apart and interruption also covering the NBA for ABC and the mothership. What do you think of the NFL draft going on as scheduled here next month they we we talked about this? Tony did yesterday and I guess I think I'm okay with it but I'm not okay with the WII general manager saying we can't finish our psychological profiling. I you know I. I don't need to hear that. We can't have our eleventh visit with somebody to ask if you were a tree. What kind of tree would you be in the middle of this context of everything Does this show has to go on if you're the NFL. I guess it doesn't. I mean bill did every this exception to everything we know in our lives. I mean maybe like you know three people alive and can remember the end of World War One. Probably not actually I. I looked at my son asked the debt. Is there anybody who lives out in Spanish flu? And look it up. But we found a couple of people who are mainly a hundred sixteen. But this is an exception. We didn't know one. Honor those really about and so if the League wants to go on with this I I'm okay with it. I'm not offended by it If they said no like everything else will be a push this little bit. I'd be okay with that too. This is one of those things that has knee agitated. Like some other things that go on during this as long as you can do your job and I had a source say these executives these scouts. Gm saying hey. I can't do my job. He said remember. When Cleveland moved to Baltimore they had no time to do any interviews and their first two draft picks with Ozzie. Newsome or two hall of Famers in Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis. Twenty said if you do your job the entire year then you should ready to have a draft tomorrow. If you've done job you should be able to. You know your draft Your War Room tomorrow. So yeah but I agree with that Dan. You know I mean these guys are so. I don't even want to say prepared. I mean yes. If you've done your job while you and I mean how many times are they gonNA look at how many times we have to have him in under under normal conditions Okay fine you tolerate it but but to say that that has to happen this year. Well we can't have a draft right now and you push your push into it. And how do you get that chance looking? I understand being able to give someone a simple physical but in most cases is talking about that. We're talking about the extreme and still which teams and their personality evaluators go and we just. I don't have the stomach to hear excuses about that right now. I A couple of things here I. I said I wouldn't get mad anymore. I watched the opening night when they had the brackets for the greatest college basketball player of all time. And and I don't know if I've been this upset truly upset on the show and all of a sudden I saw where Zion moves moves on past Danny Manning Shack moves on. That was that was the ninety. Got Me but then shock over. Lew Alcindor Jerry. West is a thirteen seed marriages. A thirteen seed trae young had half a great season at Oklahoma. What happened here. This is this is the generations we we've raised. There's two generations of people that live no regard or interest in history. You know know we need to do a correction show. We need call it. Get off my lawn that let's get off my lawn. I'd be I'm so then it's so funny. Obviously you are not talking to this. Started to the night that First of all I'm just angry about it anyway. Don't put together a bracket that has women and men have ever women's racket women's Field. And then don't ask Shirl don't ask for the Shirley no one's better than Dole Walter. Whatever he's just don't do it. It's just it's lazy and I I hate it. I hate it and the nicest. Zion was advanced past. Danny no one knows what Danny Lennon did. Then let's all my son who so always been the same house for days is fight about two big good. It's been fun is fight about sports in history and you came to me in a proud moment yesterday on his twelfth birthday and he said if I man he's playing I don't know I don't think he's dead. I Have Deacon Jones on my defensive line. I Oh yes yes. How did you even come about his name? And then he comes back later. Goes Okay Dad. I get I get what you're saying. So if I had Joe Green and Beacon Joe there yeah yes. There's no plus yards plan against you. You have the and I'm screaming at him. Because you know the seventy percent of time you know or maybe he's pretty good. It's just as you come in the day. So is so and so going to the hall of fame and it's like you know it's somewhere who I've almost forgotten about who just happens to play now. And we've got two generations of people who don't know anything and they don't care and you can't talk him out of it like listening they don't care about is not just sports. I guarantee you. They don't know wh- what is they'll just say. I don't care gotta finish. Whatever I that happened before I was born well so angry i. I have three daughters so we don't talk sports but when they talk music and they'll say hey dead. I was wondering about Bowie again. Yes yes whatever. You're wondering about is great you know. What's your favorite Zeppelin live yet? Yeah all just listen to one other thing I wanted to ask you about and I brought this up a couple of weeks ago. I think I was talking about the most impactful. I guess I was talking about Louis Indoor. And because he's the Greatest College Basketball Player bowl times. Not even a question and I said you know there were a couple of impactful games in my Life College Basketball Games. Texas Western beating Kentucky. So you had your first all black starting five with Don Haskins at Texas Western magic and bird but also loo Al Cinder. It's Elvin Hayes in the astrodome. Those are the three games that I think have. And maybe I'm missing. One have had the biggest impact on the sport because the first all black starting five wins the title against an all White Kentucky Team Bird Magic. The highest rated college basketball game but prime basketball was in prime time in the astrodome. With Luau Cinder Against Elvin Hayes and the Houston cougars. So is there another one you'd put in there and if not out of those mine? I share that with you I'm GONNA say maybe I mean anniversary. I think it's day go. Walton Twenty one or twenty two Walton. That game he he had. I'M GONNA put that up there but also magic burs win averse re today. Oh wow well that one the first one. The one I mentioned wealth is less culturally impactful than the one you mentioned she want. I'm with you on your selection of those three The Leitner they hill late there game does it wasn't in the final four for one but it doesn't have the cultural impact although it's to me that's still has a certain. I'm it's important to certain glamour. That's the best game ever thought. That's the best best college.

"Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon one pardon the interruption talking about the reaction in some of their thoughts coming from around the league I don't have that sentiment Tony of agreeing or disagreeing I like hearing Ballenger just go on a straight you know yeah and it yeah his feelings I think that's pretty cool I'm just not as you know I have my problems with this being made as big a deal as it is in the and it wasn't nearly as big a deal what I object to it as it is now it's like a hundred times bigger now it's only you great I mean I don't I don't care as much about talking with Jen was we're for somebody talks reliving I don't care about their talking I want to see them play and so I want to see what the reaction is all on the diamond right the Houston Astros starting day what what I care about I understand what Ballenger feels how he feels about this he thinks his team got robbed I don't know that wholesale to they stole the MVP from our judge what is what I do now when used in place the Dodgers Ballenger's going on his back I guarantee you that I don't do that Houston pitchers are going to remember what everybody said about them and a lot of people are going down I find this very interesting that so many players are angry at the Houston Astros in they say these are not sincere apologies and yet with the Washington nationals Sean Doolittle has reached out the will Harris who was on this team in Houston and I was told with a sincere apology because your teammates now and that's how it works my when your teammates everything is good and I don't understand still what do you want now what what do they have to do what do you want to know why they're going to give the trophy in the ring tone how about back in the old days when they were both in the NL west how would that work down there would have played each other a whole bunch of some million coming as water would have been that's right straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart now keep in mind the Dodgers don't play the Astros during the regular season it would have to be another World Series match up or may be if you get the right combination at the all star game this July at Dodger Stadium I'm sure the astro all star representatives are going to feel all too welcomed by the Dodger Stadium crowd he did I say all stars well why are you did and that's where we are in the midst of the NBA all star celebration weekend in Chicago the Friday night festivities beginning with the rising stars game first year guys in soft wars going up and down the floor basketball free form with more back and forth in a federal Nadal tennis match.

NFL explains why there was no pass interference called on play that eliminated Saints

"We're going to. We're going to make football show because that's what people like over the weekend. Everybody who listens to this show presumably watched all of the football games or most of all of the football guess. He missed the playoffs playoff in Hawaii. The yes I missed that one Justin Thomas I saw this morning. I thought it was really nice but I missed it last last night because it came on pretty late We're going to do you because the ratings of the NFL up all across the board because the interest in the NFL is up all across the board and because each of those those games was quite interesting in its own way including terrible terrible. Coaching decisions by both coaches in the Houston Buffalo Game. We're going to talk about out this for an extended period of time in the first segment. Michael Wilbon will join us in second segment. We're GONNA limit news and go right to old guy where we're going to talk about the Golden Globes and the matchups for next week. That's what we're going to the show probably the same length. But I WANNA do it if you don't mind I WANNA do it that way also. WanNa thank Clarendon Tola for Baking Cooke's for Claire Gary Braun Chris Cillizza Michael Kornheiser Nigel. Who has nothing to do except for on the boards because we're not sleep keeps pressing one button? So He's been news cancelled forever now just today. If you don't mind especially the best thing is not gonNa work out just I you know I'm old and I thought why not like Michael said to me last night we were talking about the possibility of of Michael. Are you shaking your head. You don't want me to. Would you go ahead down the fourth wall. People talking about Mike Lees. I won't share this on air dead. Yeah go ahead Michael Says Cillizza how how do we get rid of him. Nicely to the change in the show today. I let's start. Let's start with yesterday's which is going to go backwards. I'm just can start with the Minnesota game because of all the games the end result of that game is the most surprises so like I said on the PTI show on Friday. I'll take Tennessee. Plus Five Live and a half all day and all night doesn't mean I think they're gonNA win. I'm GONNA take those points New Orleans. Losing at home in overtime to Minnesota is stunning drew. BREES did not have a great game he had a very bad fumble in drive. That could have changed in the fourth quarter changed. Everything around. He got picked never gets picked. I mean he did not have a great game. There are three quarterbacks forty years old and up over the weekend and they all lost. We'll get to that but even with brees not having a great game. They tied the game. They got into overtime there at home and they yielded the first drive. That's it see around. see you around Kirk cousins who. I am extraordinarily critical of on a regular basis was very good and kirk cousins to Adam Adam field and had to make up for fumble early. You know but I don't feel did that pass. That wins the game. Now there's a third downplay because what you don't want to do is have to kick a field goal because because you don't want to give New Orleans the ball on the one. Yeah you don't WanNa do that. On the third downplay they go in the left. Hand top corner of the end zone to Kyle Rudolph is about twelve aid aide just like that and by the way quickly give cousins credit. That was a terrible snap. The snap his way to his right he basically knocks it with his right hand. Quickly gathers it because you it's all timing and throws a faith throws the fate and Rudolf reaches up. He's much taller than defender and he gets it in the process of doing that he pushes off. There's no question he pushes off. Does it rise to the level of offensive pass interference for me in a playoff game and I have to give context here. New Orleans has tragically lost in Hoon's replay off games in a row cheated in one cheated by by their own stupidity in another with defensive back and I mean I honestly either call offense a pass. Interference would have so I did not I mean I I watched the play. Did Not in real time necessarily see the wrangle back is in front of your Reina Vision Right. So they call it a touchdown a apparently appropriately to me and then you see the replay and and I did think to myself. Like oh my goodness could they. Could they possibly possibly overturn this. I mean it. And we've all seen their explanation and said there was handed both sides. It didn't rise to level pass interference. I mean I'm sorry by no objective measure to me was that not pass interference and in fact is in fact a couple hours later they called the same thing on hollister tight end from. I'm from Seattle and on much less meaningful circumstance but I mean I just felt like the league. We're getting out of the way this one. I mean there's no way every time it's the UNCANNY situational right. We know this. It's like it's like a Games are raft. Basketball game is reverend different right. The game is rough differently in the last thirty seconds than it it is and that's situationally you cannot. I don't think when I watched it and I watched the replay. He pushed off a little bit. Did it it was. It did not to me anyway. I think I disagree with you. Guys did not to me look agree. Gis I think Rudolph was bigger. The defensive back had his back this business. Being that push back. Chris Locate fully extends. I think it was his left arm. Yeah if he is allowed to do that he catches that ball. A hundred injured time. He cannot be defended. Unless you play. Just there's so many calls they show throughout the game when they every time on a pass Where not every time? Seventy percent of the time on a pattern when they show the slow motion the other guy. The the DB is has his arm wrapped around around the guy's waist or is holding. His arm gets there. I just think it's very subjective. That's fine but I agree with that but I would also agree that the saints should not be shafted million better cost the saints again. Plenty of opportunities it. Certainly when you were watching the game I ah in the flow of it and when tased him hill like in three straight plays a three-stroke they score a touchdown. Now it's twenty seventeen right gary to have that right was twenty. I needed to twenty twenty twenty seven hundred twenty and then they get back they get it back and take some hill like three times. Basically the the one where he runs to the left where it looks like. He's tackled and he spins runs for thirty arts. Well they're definitely going to win then. And then brees fumbled. I mean it was very i. I lost fumbling. The ball get hit. No sort of this is arm gets hit a little bit. I'm sorry I'm busy trying to reconstruct your show on the fly without telling you so allowed back in so so tension is good for the show is for Knuckleballer To to to tie it up. What was the forty nine yard or from lots? They're kicking it through. Yeah man that went about now three feet off the ground and easier kick at the end of the first half a ball Games kick forty something already three but that's an easier kick so that game. Let me say one other thing about that game as someone who was a kirk cousins fan when he was here. I'm not going to criticize Kirk. Cousins played fine. He was he was great in that last. Drive the drive. If they lose the haters are going to look at that stat line that would have been seventeen of twenty nine hundred and ninety yards picked and he didn't do anything bad. Oh he had a good game and the pass was just

"The heart not speed heart they've got the eagles they got they got punked they started off by saying you know now did they swing back there at home coming off a bye week and this is what you have this is what you seven Rushing attempts for the Chicago bears never in the hundred year history of the franchise have they run the ball so little negative doesn't even seem to to know the personality of the free anti of the club he's working for in the town he's coaching it seems to be unfamiliar with that and they're a mess right now at three and three and they shouldn't be three and three okay lose to New Orleans yesterday understandable but the play that poorly do they have a do they have a head coach and a quarterback for the long run I call I questioned the eagles down question why you'd be down aggie right now I think he showed last year he's done he's a dynamic offensive mind the issue for me on that team is the quarterback I'd never thought he was going to be great I don't think he is I don't know if he's offensive mind shouldn't you be created my ticket around little guys like that are looking to do that a little too much when the answer may lay elsewhere I think this was excellent saints that's the reason they were my preseason superbowl pick because as I keep saying when you have a dynamic offensive team the chiefs the rams the saints last year the Patriots last year you start to look who is good it's not just defensively against the run is to me that's telling me something about the line of scrimmage on the other side of the ball and it was the saints and it's been the saints going back a couple of years now and once again that's actually the key to this team got a defense and they gotta run defense which tells me something about the way their coach their level of desire cohesiveness of the unit not to mention talent and then Teddy Bridgewater bortles was selected ahead of him Johnny Manziel was selected ahead of him he had the prettiest spiral coming out of college that year he was considered game managing quarterback who maybe a franchise quarterback for the Vikings who was standing before he got hurt and then he was considered maybe he's the best backup in the league and guess what he's showing right now he he he may both he was the best backup in the league and he may be a franchise quarterback teddy bridgewater has been excellent starting out more game manager getting no more responsibility as time goes on he's undefeated with an excellent team and this is why when you look at the roster top to bottom say that's the best team even with brees going down rene what I say when you said it was over when breeze went down I said if bridgewater can go five hundred I think he can they'll be fine he's undefeated he's five that is excellent saints first of all you talked about the saints you know good and Dan well drew brees had everything to do with that even though they improved offensively stop says that Teddy Bridgewater stuff nobody saw going five we see that okay and that's for you let me tell you something Mike I can't believe you maximus this everything about the beer's is about the quarterback Mitchell trubisky let's understand America the Chicago bears it's not only passed up or Patrick mahomes not only passed up onto the Shawn Watson but they moved up the traffic Mitchell trubisky and you know this because you're from Chicago and you love your bears when Mitchell trubisky is talked about what do they talk about him now more so than ever they're talking about him psychologically because he was sensitive because they booed him on draft night and he went to Chicago Bulls game and they didn't give him any love then over there last year I got out of play Defense of course they did it here's what has happened if you recall in Jacksonville when they have blake bortles as the quarterback they went to an AFC champion ship gave it the net damn Com coughlan decided to give Blake Bortles at extension what happened the next year as they nosedived defense looked like a shallow themselves why because they said Dan and this guy got money this guy's not quarterback we Ako pull this off in demoralized as your franchise and that's exactly what is happening it's Chicago.

"What's going on everybody welcome into I take from Sunny Los Angeles pardon the interruption look who's here the one and only as long as a pleasure to have you so stephen a Max on molly and we're just happy NBA tip off happening battle eh did you spend eighteen years in Philly they gave him extra beat down that was just for you showing America wide deserve to get paid crushing Philly thirty seven to ten Carson Wentz meanwhile L. had three turnover stephen you know I'm coming to you was this more good cowboys or bad eagles well as pathetic is the Philadelphia Eagles and we all know this I'm going to give the Dallas cowboys credit where credit's due because I am I fear man that's why I'm going to do it I could sit up the ravage off a whole just open I'll leave Max to fill the Philadelphia Max rather I'm going to give the Dallas Cowboys in my Buddy Jerry Jones I'm going to give them some love on this particular they morning here's the bottom line that Prescott looked absolutely sensational now granted he got to step back sit back in the pocket take pictures call his girlfriend as going out to dinner and all of this other stuff to a damn pass because he had absolutely positively nothing to worry about because the eagles couldn't get an pretty much all night long he had all dated Sort of football that Zeke Elliot and the rest of their running game they didn't explode anything but they will move into change constantly the mark is launch was a monster he came into the game don't Peterson Chirpin a little bit talking smack this man said you don't get to play shut the hell up you got to play for you we'll be ready for them and sure enough he handed his business force fumble how to sack had about four or five tackles he looked at the defense ultimately looked out in the end we have to look at the always say look from top to bottom there is no question about their talent we might question your coaching we might question leadership from above but there is no question about their talent last night they showed us what the eagles this was bad eagles this is obviously bad eagles and they were supposed to be an elite team this year and Stephen before I even get to Carson Wentz the defense was an abomination they got outcoached they were bad in every facet of the game about a team that doesn't come out and play hard doesn't play like you Jason Garrett out coach Doug Peterson Wow will yes us Jim Schwartz is actually the guy who I'm looking at right now but how about the fact that they come out is flat as they do on a weaker their coach basically guaranteed they would win then he walked back a little bit of confidence in my guys but here's what it comes down to ym still looking at Carson Wentz and believe me I hear about it on social media of all the with the eagles you're going to go yes I am when you are paid like an elite quarterback you are supposed to at least give your team a chance to win not come roaring back in the third quarter down a million points and make it three points closer look I brought this up about nick foles Nick all sprinkled his Pixie dust all over everything everyone played harder they played better they don't do it with West and this is the third week and rudy he hasn't played well don't tell me about the burs watch the game you know he hasn't played well overthrowing guys in the end zone hold ends on holding the ball too long no pocket awareness the pockets collapsing he's standing in the pockets holding he's bailing everything's bad for Carson wentz right now this was bad eagles this was the worst eagles what are you talking about dreadful and it starts with a coach not yesterday start with the coach early in the week we ran his mouth first of all if a head coach in the NFL in a rivalry of the NFC east we know how in is that is forever if you walk something back you've lost your team already to the plate late the game does even reach even lay out for ball he's going to a forty yard gain and she'd be I mean they were dreadful Carson was I just heard my dear friend Mike Greenberg refer to him as spectacular win? Where's Steve was spectacular there's nothing spectacular about Carson Wentz they're rarely has been he hasn't been spectacular in the big games because either hasn't played them in the case of last night lost them so starting with coach and quarterback the Eagles were a failure yesterday and you can here's what I'm not judging the cowboys by the way the cowboys were fine but in the context of what we saw yesterday how can you judge anything about the cowboys win the Eagles were jeff at all it sounds like why why would I the biggest franchise victories have come from a guy who's hurting Jacksonville Carson he's been okay what is Carson Wentz done that is earned the amount of praise expectation well because because his for a couple of years ago he the key weeks he it hasn't looked the same since he got back from the injury well listen I think the point that you max you've been on the record Going off about the Eagles and I think your argument you missed it because when it comes down to is what you alluded to and you've been mentioning over the last several months in terms of his ability to galvanize those troops decide that like we heard about God's coming late to practice we heard about gods not being focused we're hearing things about the Philadelphia Eagles now that we had not heard in quite a while they seem undisciplined right now Doug Peterson seems to have lost the team I go left every now and then here's the deal Dallas punched him in the mouth you know when you talk smack and did not come out and I tell you we'll we'll be so as much as it disgusts me because disgusting nauseating fan base and that the deal with the worst fan base in American history that just makes me want to throw up every time I hear the cowboys the flip side to that on this particular day the Eagles got punked somebody poked them and it was the Dallas cowboys that's all I'm trying to say the point themselves some level you could say it was ugly from the first possession turnoff circulars for the cowboys eagles that's right by the way when is the last how do we hear a head coach make a guarantee a regular season game what's the point of that and then to walk it back that's should be embarrassing sure well it's a sign of desperation early in the season and this is the thing I keep looking at with Wentz who I don't think has been the same since the injury by the way but you're right Stephen Ada Point that out whatever and saying Nick Foles is the one who won the super bowl he took them they're more instructive to me was the following season last year they were flat all year then when schools goes down and Nick foles takes over and suddenly they look energized both sides of the ball even special teams everyone's Lean harder they're playing with more energy playing together let's not forget he not only quarterback them into the playoffs he went to soldier field to beat the bears who were Super Bowl favorites they were long he then went to New Orleans and had a chance it's weird that a guy with good hands like Alshon Jeffery is thinking about the yards after the catch and Mrs you agree he has to lay out for that they are lacking team speed both sides of the ball right now and when says ask ask acting like Sean John Lennon some today doubt that that's true in who ultimately does that fall coach okay. The quarterback Dallas takes the division lead. We'll get into the cowboys a little later I'm sure the playmaker will have a lot to say about that but Michael Wilbon you're not going anywhere what's going on everybody I'm only.

"Stephen a Doc Rivers. Michael wilbon and Steven A. And Magic Johnson clearly have a good relationship. Now, we all know that Stephen is a good journalist, you emotional choked up. I'm emotional the same way that Stephen is emotional when defending his friend Magic Johnson. And when he defends him he does not sound objective. He sounds emotional, so that story comes out from Baxter homes on ESPN dot com. He's ever met Johnston, and it torches all of the Lakers. And magic is given the platform by Steven A again to go after the Lakers are caused more of a mass blame. More people cut. Dotson. And Stephen a Smith varies zealously defended Magic Johnson from that story. Cut governmental Johnson now Henry Abbott at true hoop is saying the following Henry Abbott. Also a very good journalist new age journalist, and this is what he writes on Twitter, telling the truth is difficult. Painstaking often thankless work. Not everyone has the stomach for it. I think ESPN faces tough choices about, whether it wants to nurture evidence based, reporting, or tear it down and so evidence based reporting is what Baxter homes reported for ESPN dot com. Where it was on the ground talking to dozens of sources pointing out that the Lakers have had an alarming amount of executives leave talking to people in a way that exhaustively reported. And then Stephen a Henry avid saying a went on the air and toward. Down that evidence based reported. Magic Johnson tyrannical as the boss. That's basically what pitching trying to pay. Magic Johnson what that's small fee on television all over permeating the Airways. Oh my God. Stop the process. Magic Johnson might have been a bit hard core..

Why would Kevin Durant leave the Warriors?

"Would Kevin Durant ever leave where he currently is because of his legacy? He's got to do it himself. I'm telling you he's already part of this team. It has been years now three of them since he supposedly joined the team he could not beat. And he is the MVP of their last two NBA final appearances. And might be again. We don't know. I mean, not supposedly he did they were down. They were up three one, and they blew it. And then he went and joined why would he leave it? Curry fits him better than but he knows how it fits. They all fit Kerr the management ownership that jewel of a stadium. We just heard about sounds. We're on gushing out of looking at it. Why would he leave it?
