How the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upset the New Orleans Saints to advance to the N.F.C. championship game.
"Drew brees tom. Brady eighty five years worth of quarterbacks second quarter at six three saints and then dan fish huge mistake by brief. Yeah first of all the internal pressure and second of all the physical. Play at the line of scrimmage by murphy bunting getting physical with the receiver michael thomas undercutting that outraged by drew brees. That throw was a huge tone. And that. I love the to mike evans big body in the red zone. Stay in between the quarterback and defensive back touchdown tampa bay for cash in ten six tampa ensuing drive seats trying to respond. This is james winstons. First career playoff past and dan take a look at the triggering. Yeah love the beautiful design and then trey smith leaking down the middle field. But this is really about everyone paying attention to alvin kamara. Watch the tailback in. How many blocks defenders run that way. They lead tricon smith on blocked out here. You big cat. Take great play designed by matt. Nagy that sean payton carries over to yesterday saints thirteen. Ten is the advantage there. Bucks get a field goal. So we're tied up at halftime first. Possession of the second breeze to smith again beautiful. Throw we've seen so much by drew. Brees that incites thought. Fade carry into the sideline touchdown new orleans but then later in the third dan. This play changed the entire game. It's incredible winco junior yet. Tampa new orleans wins. The right they get that slant because it's man coverage but just watch that right hand come in on that back side punch to finish that playoff for tampa bay's defense. That ball bounces right to their defender to huge turnover for them saints turnovers and the bucks cashing in. That was the story of the game. Here's brady that's leonard. Four bucks tied up at twenty cook knows. That mistake was critical. Comes another one dan. Although this one clearly seems to be miscommunication yeah really. It's really just trying to get a vertically route to evan chimera out of the backfield but what happens is never liked. Does a remarkable job of playing with vision onto drew brees patient and then no wasted movement snaps drives on that football before kamera ever turns around and drew knows that was a terrible decision. Saints third turnover leads to this brady takes it himself. Tom brady giving the bucks a thirty to twenty lead. Only the rap isn't excited about it and one last chance now. Desperation time for freeze. That is tipped in the air. And that is all she
Brees, Saints pull away late for 21-9 playoff win over Bears
"Drew Brees threw for two touchdowns and Alvin Kamara ran for ninety nine yards and a score in the seats twenty one nine victory over the bears Brees tossed an eleven yard TD pass to Michael Thomas to open the scoring he later connected with Latavius Murray for a six yard score late in the third quarter shortly after the bears committed a neutral zone infraction on fourth and three at the Chicago thirteen we're good on third down today you know I felt like we were able to do that well even super long situations were just found out what you guys were able to get first downs but the guys up front until I do a great job against really good pass rush camara made it twenty one to three with a one yard run midway through the fourth quarter the saints kept the bears out of the end zone until Mitchell Trubisky hit Jimmy Graham for a TD as time expired I'm Dave Ferrie
Ravens not thinking about past in playoff rematch
"Wildcard Sunday, kicking off with a rematch of last year's postseason. The Ravens looking for a little revenge on the Titans, who spoiled their top seed a year ago. Last year's M V P. Lamar Jackson still looking for his first career playoff win, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh says there is no extra pressure on his QB today. Playoff games of big their opportunities. It takes a lot to get to the playoffs. It takes a lot. It's the whole year, worst worth of work to get back to the same spot. So that's not lost on anybody. No, no different for Lamar really than anybody else kicked off in about a half hour after that, it is to New Orleans, where the Saints look to avenge tough playoff losses in each of the last three seasons. Sean Payton's group feeling a sense of urgency is they take on the Bears? Most of this group is better part of playoff wins and then tough playoff losses s. Oh, it's not the best of seven. It's not the best of five. It's three hours and And you have a winner or loser. So you know, trying to play your best game that looking for their first playoff win in a decade. New Orleans got a couple of weapons back Alvin Kamara Michael Thomas, both reportedly Healthy and ready to go. The nightcap is in Pittsburgh, the Steelers and Brown's in an A F C. North rivalry match up. Cleveland will be short handed their coach Kevin Stefanski, forced to sit out because of covert 19 protocols. And Roethlisberger set for his first playoff game in three years. Every player should approach this playoff game like it could be their last playoff game ever. We've used examples of players and coaches that have been asleep for a long time that have Never been the postseason never been to a Super Bowl. Whatever it may be, so I think it's prudent for every player to take that mindset that approach and I know I am because nothing's guaranteed in this game or this or this 13 and ate all time in the postseason and the NBA this
Patriots at Dolphins: Times are changing and this stat proves it
"I thought it was crazy that the past thirteen dolphin matchups dolphin Pat's match up before this one the Patriots were the favorites. That streak is ending this week that the Dolphins are two point favorites. In fact, it's 33 the past 34 think about how crazy that is. And the only time that that wasn't a dolphin's wage favorites before before this week with in 2013. If you remember the Dolphins went 2420 with safety Michael Thomas five days after being signed off the 49ers practice squad intercept Tom Brady in the end zone to seal the win. So that's one of the things I wrote about 2 in the channels are facing a Bill Belichick defense or again. Everything and anything about the Dolphins this week and about this matchup will be on on the website all dolphins on the SI Network. I absolutely believe that and that's why I had Al-Anon because I knew he would deliver the goods and I really appreciate it now and then in terms of the Patriots not being favored in this game. It's a disappointing as a fan but it's obviously, you know justifiable as somebody in an objective Observer and did this game and it's interesting times here in New England to say the least. This is I think even maybe even worth and then some people expected it's even better than other people expected with you know, the year after Tom Brady, so it's kind of following exactly where I think it should fall, you know, when you lose a quarterback of that caliber and you kind of get the reset button on your
NFL Playoff Futures: Who will make the 2020 post-season?
"Wanted to talk about playoff odds and not not. Just who's gonna make the playoffs but also the nfc the nfc's a really weird place. The saints are plus three fifty to win this to in the nfc. None of us like the saints even are as good as they looked last week against tampa. There's still this unease with because breezes arm strength. It just makes me nervous. I'm starting to talk myself into the saints. Okay yeah okay so a couple of things number one. Smart people in july and august said wait until brady gets half a season under his belt and they're going to get better you know. No one cares. More about the details. And tom brady doesn't have a training. Camp does not as doesn't put pads on till till august fifteenth. He's gonna get better and better and better and so week one when when the bucks and the saints played. I threw that out. I said this this doesn't matter bracing to get better and better better. This was the closing the gap game for me. And then i didn't see that and obviously they were there whipped everywhere you know. Ali maher pet being out was a big thing with with with with people who started the game. But i think that this was bigger than than alley marquette quite frankly okay The the saints were able to get a four man rush the entire game. Are they able to pressure brady on half of his dropbacks when they had a four man rush. That's really good Since marcus davenport's come back in week five had the most pressures in football pressuring and football There's just something there. The problem at the beginning of the year was that lattimore and marcus williams were bad and those are two pretty good players and i think that you know a good pass rush. Ken console that those guys can get better and so with with brees. Listen there are. There are problems with the fact. You can't throw down the field. The offensive line is not as good as it has been in years hospice and matter with brees because he gets rid of the ball and a second. It's like peyton manning he doesn't need you know the the the best offensive line in the world and then lattimore who we were kind of dunking on because at one point he was giving almost a perfect passer rating. He owns mike evans. He own them. He is not given up a reception. Mike evans the last three games. They've played and so when if those guys play in the playoffs again. There's that match up. So i i don't. I'm feeling better about the saints. Now that i was two three weeks ago. Good coaching staff. I gary coaching staff. Yeah so the fear in this isn't just the saints but the fear is all right. What happens at their downtown in a playoff game. It's basically the lamar jackson corollary. How am i feeling down. Thirteen to three in the second quarter and they've just done a three and out. What were my emotions in that moment. That's my the saints because a breeze. I think that because they don't you don't think they're capable of a big play. Is that your fear if teams though like all right. They've got to air this out. They've got to quicken the pace and also it's amazing to me a cameras probably been the. Mvp think it's either him cook mahomes berry some order Okay i'm amazed at teams aren't just like all right. We're taking him out like bell. Check in his prime your. He got added as kids to the coaching staff and decided to throw a fight street. Drafts fail check All he would do me like chimeras not beating me. You can have everyone else on the saints. I'm not getting beat by that guy. I'm falling everywhere he goes. We're hitting him constantly. He's not beating me. Why don't teams do that with them. I don't get it okay. So first of all they have a of weapons. Thanks so she when michael. Thomas is healthy There's a lot they can do their you know. I think peter king early breakdown. His column this week about there was a play where the bucks dropped eight men into coverage and it was a weird play. They had their fullbacks put out wide and brees hit a random tight end. Adam traveling for a touchdown even throwing into eight men like that. There's just something their breezes still really really good so. I think it's a bit simplistic to say. Just take away kamara because they can do other stuff And they can. They can change their game plan so
Tom Brady suffers worst career loss: “Everyone’s got to do a lot better”
"Morning. Mr Bogue's Good morning. How we doing? D a were doing well. So for the first time since week one, the Saint said their full complement of offensive weapons last night, so they scored 31 1st half points while the defense confounded Tom Brady and friends in Tampa Bay on Sunday night Football. The 38 3 final The worst loss of Brady's career included three interceptions turned that's play a lot better. And ah Turn the ball over against a good team. Never helps counterpart Drew Brees with touchdown passes to Trey Kwan Smith, Adam Trautman, Joshua and Emmanuel Sanders, who missed the previous two games on the covert list. Michael Thomas with five catches for 51 yards in his first game since week, one in prime time tonight Because
"michael thomas" Discussed on Niners Nation
"To learn more. All right. We are back and per the biggest NFL reporter on twitter at Sir. Yet he says the forty niners offering the saints, the most for Michael Thomas behind the scenes per source. So all right and I told you this little bit or I told you this morning where there there's actually a way for this deal to work just because Michael Thompson's contract if the saints were to trade him after this year, they'd be on the hook for six million dead money and They would actually save a million and cap space. So his base salary for twenty twenty, his base, our is only a million dollars. So the forty nine could make that work hypothetically, would they have to probably come off with a high draft pick Yeah. That's GonNa Happen Michael Contract until twenty, twenty four you're not going to get him for pennies. He's won best wide receivers the NFL he'd be an outstanding fit. With the forty niners deal for him after just being suspended for punching his teammate probably not they always talk about culture but again, talent trump's on the NFL Antonio Brown has a job Y who knows but we see every week or every year where guys get second third chances just because they are really good football but I mean, the probability of the forty nine, hundred acquiring Michael Thomas is very, very low but it's just funny that we're we're gonNA see a lot of these. Come up over the next week because a trade deadline November three, the Ford is they they have like seventeen dollars cap space so I mean they're not going to be able to do much at all. What do you think about that rumor and do you think the forty niners will make any sort of move? Yeah. So first of all yachts claim to fame as like bringing big ten football back I guess he had some like connections with meth logic directors at some big ten university and he was all over that and since then he's turned into like Schefter two point zero though I'm pretty sure missed on a lot of his you know breaking. News or whatever shocker Yeah Yeah But on Michael Thomas it's a, it's a luxury like, why would the forty niners go after Michael? Thomas will have deebo Samuel Brandon IU, Kendrick born and like all these different guys on offense and cal Shanahan's trying to run the ball a bunch like what do you need another high end receiver for Considering depots, injuries we tweak. That doesn't make sense to me if it was like a high end pass rusher or. Defense of Linemen or whatever, that would make a little bit more sense to me I would at least consider it just doesn't make sense. It just seems Kinda grievous and like you mentioned the forty niners have. Really I think it's like less than a hundred thousand dollars in cap space. So they're not gonNA, make a move for anybody unless they send out money. And just given where they are I think. They're just GONNA ride with the team that they've got all the players. Are. Hurt. So yeah. Yeah, exactly. So there's GonNa ride with what they've got and milk. As much juice as they can out of the season I. Think. It just doesn't make sense to me to give up future draft capital specially like you're probably GONNA have to go first or second round pick Michael Thomas, and it's like so that worth it. I don't think so so cool. Cool. Little Room for twitter but Nash. Yet the Everson Griffen is probably the closest if they were gonNA make a deal I mean people keep probably my Ryan Kerrigan from Washington Carl's done that from Cincinnati a Ryan Anderson is a second round pick a former second round pick I believe from Alabama he was not good at Alabama he has not been good in the NFL so I would. Be surprised if they make that move again, they're just it. They have who they have right now. So I I just not sure what else they can do. So moving on from the trading and circling back here on Jimmy three year anniversary on the forty niners quarterback. So has the franchise completely turned around? How much is Jimmy responsible for that go? Off He he's he's pretty responsible for it. Just given the fact that the alternative would be like cj Beathard or nick mauled or somebody else. You know when they have the time when they made the move for Jimmy Garoppolo three years ago I'm still pretty confident that CAL Shanahan and John Lynch had full intention to go and get kirk cousins the following year and that was the plan from day one when they took the job. But when Bill Belichick offers you Jimmy Garoppolo for a second round pick who was available and your team was whatever one in ten at the time or one nine or whatever they were you go out and make the you go out and make deal and you know unit criticized Garoppolo for various things but he took the team to the Super Bowl which they wouldn't have been able to do without him. when he's on the field, they win more than when he's not so Yeah. He he deserves credit for it. No matter. You know how much critique him for a different areas of his game. Yet and I think that's fair to say is responsible for A. Good portion of the forty nine or success John. Lewis. has done a good job of adding players adding players at complement other players. I don't think it should be based on the other option is CJ beathard because you can do you know the whole drafting in the whole acquiring another quarterback so there are. A billion different rabbit holes, we can go down to you but with what they did and only spending a second round pick for a quarterback who has had as much success. Jimmy Garoppolo had that is a big win for the franchise and for. Jimmy. So yeah, you definitely have to give him credit there Let's get to the arrival of all rivalry. So Seattle seahawks on the road for niners or bust out the all white babies which are unquestionably one of the toughest uniforms in the NFL, will they make a difference we will. Yeah. To me as a as a person that watches the Lakers, a lot whenever they broke out the Black Mamba Jerseys in the playoffs it just felt like they had this like next year invincible next to them, and like that with the forty niners when they break out those white uniforms, they know that it's a big frigging game and they know that they've gotta like ball out and those uniforms and it gives them this extra like a superpower almost even those just like a piece of cloth, but it feels like that. Yeah look good play good. That's Primetime said and and you can tell that there is some extra level of. 'em just good play when they have those areas on. So let's talk about Seattle Seattle off a loss where they held the lead against Arizona for essentially the entire game they. The. Arizona Zero Tie Dame, the next time the game was tied was when it was thirty four to thirty, four headed into overtime Arizona really didn't have any business being in that game, but Seattle squandered their opportunities. Pete Carroll was Pete Carroll's. Clock Management and decision making in I. Mean Clip. Kingsbury in the cardinals tried to do their best to give that game away but Seattle. Came at the lost their defense is just not good at all in quietly Russell Wilson has been turning the ball over and he hasn't played very. So just looking at some stats Here's where Russell Wilson stacks up from weeks three to seven. So using EPA per play. Again from weeks three to seven. Russell Wilson is thirteenth and releasing him and that that might not sound like much. We're just used to seeing him being like top three and everything. So He's thirteenth and period per play since we three as far success rate goes Russell Wilson is actually seventeen. So he I mean, he's turning the ball over. He has made some questionable decisions. Obviously he's Russell Wilson still and he's going to he's going to make those eye-popping highlight throws and he I think he does make good decisions as far as who to throw the ball too. But it always seems like he makes his weird dumb mistake near the sideline where he gives you opportunities and the forty niners cannot afford to mess those opportunities up and. The real reason, the forty niners Abba, chance to beat the seahawks is not going to be when Russell.
Brees' clutch precision lifts Saints past Panthers, 27-24
"Drew Brees passed for two hundred eighty seven yards and two touchdowns and the saints twenty seven twenty four victory against the Panthers Brees completed twenty nine of thirty six passes to eight different targets despite not having receivers Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders in the lineup you got to sit there and look at the call sheet you're looking you're the first numbers and figure out how your piece it all together at the end they put them in the best position to succeed after's kicker Joey Slye attempted a potential game tying sixty five yard field goal on fourth in nineteen but the ball fell just short of the cross bar if his quarterback teddy Bridgewater was twenty three of twenty eight for two hundred fifty four yards and two touchdowns including a seventy four yarder to DJ Moore New Orleans improved a foreign to entrap Carolina two three and four I'm the ferry

"To give him the benefit of the doubt I mean he can. He can. He can be can throw left handed and right handed the Jarvis Landry. So. Not His job that's that's not true. It just makes it a little bit. It makes him a little bit cooler at parties the more you can do the mortgage that's not his job. So his jobs, the customer in not though it but. Now, YOU'RE GONNA. have to go with juice Dan Product award but it's Kinda hard because they have Kareem Hunt. They have Baker Bakers on our team you know. Austin Hooper But like you, you see all these weapons before Baker and I feel like that's how they're starting to win the. Hey let's get these the ball and let them make plays like man I've been looking at allies. Their winner reverses reverse passes. They haven't. They haven't everybody touched the ball and you actually see that they're spreading around and and they're they're making a dangerous lies is looking crazy over there in Cleveland right now and what's what's been the biggest change though Ryan, what have you seen that's really jumped. Off The page, why are they winning football games as opposed to being the same old same old Cleveland Browns to me I feel like they're focused on winning like they're obviously everybody focus on winning. I mean they're focused on running the ball they're trying to run it and in ran leads to the past and that really really helps them out a lot like i. feel they have they have. They had over one hundred yards rushing last week. Cream had over twenty carriers if if Nick. Charles play. He would. He would. He would McCloy closer twenty carries. CARRIES, but they're spreading the ball out. They're not asking Baker do too much like Baker threw the ball forty times last week thirty, seven times and he threw two picks I the last few games before that he do it a little less and he he does he doesn't throw as many. He doesn't make as many bad mistakes because they're just spread the ball around and just giving giving it to everybody they do that I feel like they do a really good job and that's when the that's what makes them dangerous so like That's that's the scariest thing for me would have stood us when we played them next week. Is because they have so many weapons obviously I like our de la in our our defense I think we can slow him down and we played them enough by. The. They're they're not acting Baker to do too much makes the more makes him more testing for us because we want Baker to try to do too much 'cause day we understand what beggars doing too much. That's when he making mistakes but when Baker's just here, just a, let me give it. Oh dear. Let me run into reverse. Let me do this. Let me do that. That makes them dangerous. So honestly. Did the AFC north is going to be tough this year. Yeah. Like I told you before I had not. She still is winning the AFC north. And I still. AFC North but I think that we might win it by one or two wins and I think that I think we don't have a really tight race at the end man i. think he's going to be like the steelers win twelve and four or thirteen and three. You know in in a chiefs. Cheese the browse. Probably, eleven and five in in in probably the Ravens at twelve and four or I think it'll be that close I think it'll be cloudy the teas that we're GONNA be really losing to going to be the ones in our division are it's going to be Are the big the big teams like the Ravens lost to the cheese you know so I think yeah I think he's going to be just really tight games like that. We don't have a really tight race. That division shaping up to be probably the best in all of the League right about now in this this week's matchup week six I mean it's going down Cleveland at Pittsburgh. It's four one verses four no. So we all get your take on that in just a second but just to recap your top five, you're going just to be clear you're going Nick Chubb Number One myles Garrett number two, oh bj number three. Jews Jarvis Landry number four, and then Denzel Ward number five, no Baker Mayfield inside the top five correct and not because I think to me personally reminds better than Baker. Okay. All right. So again, and we give Kareem Hunt Six and then put Baker in at number seven. Three to be. Bigger at seven and then. Probably also, Hooper. A but like this is this is not including lime and stuff like that. Of course. But when you can rank a top ten unit of guys on the squad like that chances are you know they're doing something right and that's what we're seeing right now with these Cleveland browns sitting at foreign one how how you like their chances against the Pittsburgh steelers four one versus four know who wins when the dust settles. Man. I know which way you're going, but I need you to answer. Formality, I'll be as not biased as possible. Okay. I think I've been a game is GONNA end up being like? Twenty seven to twenty four Stiller's okay. Okay. I think both of us can pit offense I don't think but I think both have really solid defense I think our differences better than airs I think that's about it. Would it be safe to say that you think that the steelers they get the victory in this one at home, and then when they flip it a little bit and the Cleveland Browns. Play the house, the negative that win I mean is this team good enough to split with your Pittsburgh steelers season? So I'm I'm going to be honest with you right here coal. Wow I predict..

"Game. Day Pepsi isn't made for those who play the game it's made for those who watch Pepsi made for football. Watch to go to made for football watching DOT COM check out the latest football watching content from Pepsi. Back, here in our Tuesday, NFL, ringer podcasts show and time now for our playbook segment, that's where we go a little bit deeper on a specific team. In this week, we're headed to the home of the rock and roll hall of fame and also bone thugs and harmony. That's right we'RE GOING TO CLEVELAND. Ohio. That's where we're talking about this Cleveland browns and don't look. Now. But Ryan the Cleveland Browns a team that you know very well sitting pretty a four one right. Now, the best record that they've seen in a long time since the early nineties since Bill Belichick was the head coaching, Nick Sabin was the DC and I. I was wearing a whole bunch of silk shirts back then man nineteen, ninety, four, I was two years old to. Two years old that is a long time ago eight hundred you you had overalls on the buster brown shoes, and like I said, I was wear no silk shirts from chess king I back in those days. That's when I had here I lost it through years later I lost it years later loss at five. So is this a long time ago? Now by the browns aren't the browse man as stiller man is hard to say this but they're looking solid man they're looking real good man You know they didn't have weapons all over the field you look if you look on paper they pretty much. Any team in the League and I think they've been they may have an. Building squad to be really competitive for a while bad thing. They actually have somebody that's like I said before just focusing on football focusing on winning. And not having not accident a quarterback to be superman. You know because beggars guy he was in the morning for. Picking everything, but he doesn't have to be Superman and today I'm actually going to go into ranking their top players like okay. So so I'M GONNA go from one. To Five. So so the best player being number one and the. The best player being five you're GONNA go in five to one one five. Player more. This was this was hard for me because I don't know a lot of you might not like like this one but I might have to go it. The best team to me right now is nature's. Niche up I'm a number one. Okay. Number two. This is why people like it number two, I'm GONNA have to go with have to go with. myles Garrett. That's why I feel myles Garrett could have been one, but you know. I think you can't go wrong with either one of them to right now don't ask Mason Rudolph who is number two player? In the Cleveland. Browns, he might disagree with you when it comes to. You might think he's ninety fifth player, yes? But. Just as number. I promise you. He's not number three. You have to go with Odell you have to go. Okay. Number Four. Man. Talk. With juice is it or as it is a war is this award is used the award. have.

"I mean he's gotten in there and he's played well, and the only problem is that the chargers and Anthony Lynn they just keep losing these close ball and. I'm not saying there's writing on the wall, but if they keep losing these games by less than a touchdown, chances are just in Herbert's GonNa have a whole new coach to navigate that second story of his career. In is is the NFL coaches starting to fire and left the right and honestly I don't WanNa. See Anthony Land out because this is third year you know the two guys longest tenure the here's a young quarterback I. Feel I feel. I. For young quarterbacks you needed this allow them to grow a little bit with a coach. Will you start changes so many pieces around him that Kinda messes guys, careers, a lot of I feel like a lot of good. quarterbacks they don't have a lot of a lot of change over in their careers. You know so I think that they should at least let us stick out. You know he gotta get his defense together. He's a devious coach. He has to get his defense together because his office is falling Just a herbert is playing really well, Joe Burrow. He have they don't have referee money for his rookie of the year contest I know a lot of other ricky's out there. When it's too when when this young quarterbacks out here, ball is almost not even fair for the other Ricky's like somebody have a historical number historical year if you have ricky quarterbacks plan and they're playing pretty good. Wanting to win the award you know so. He he's playing really well, man he he's super well I I think anthony stick together just to her but he he's going to be a problem in the League but. But yeah. Now you saying with James. What's going on withdrew man but his I think because he's forty forty one, I think he's starting to catch up to him mother time undefeated man we already know that he's going to catch up to him and he's not he's not doing it as well He. You know he he he's doing all these check Dow just constantly getting the ball you know. A short situations they bring. It tastes them here lane on thirty dollars like that's crush time. Obviously obviously you trust enough. But they they just re really read up debris last year. Was Year before last year I feel like his contract situation is always in a good place right there. But yeah, these same pretty over there at third down his. Tommy and you take him out. I want somebody running that that's doable. do a threat but. Man This, this is the do who has the most passing yards in NFL history most touchdowns, NFL history like for sure why is he coming out of the game? I was going to win but why is he coming up the game? Did you scratch your head at all because we know leading into Monday night football their reports out there Michael Thomas he he would not be active in this one, but it wasn't for the lingering injury that we've seen him Miss Games in weeks prior it was because he punched a teammate in the face I mean last time I looked Michael Thomas's if not number one, he's one, two three if you put it on a rotational. At Top wide receivers in the national football. League. But. If. I'm the saints I'm saying, Hey, what you got, you got a locker room beef. You punish his cat in the face. All right. Cool. Hundred, thousand dollar fine. See You on the field on Monday night, knock off all the nonsense but that's not what the saints did and they were trying to send a message apparently and Michael Thomas did not play in this one and we saw that with drew brees, not being able to get off some of those long passes. So might actually a close friend of mine that's your friend of mine and care. Tom Like I'm not. Everybody has asshole at him, but Mike can't be. I heard that I heard. That's that's that's not my comment I'm just GonNa sit here and sit my coffee. Man before before we before we start his pockets you to ask earlier. Oh. Ever. Now now, I, definitely I definitely have it in me. Everybody has dinner but I went when it comes to football is pretty serious but I was like in this situation, Mike had to be in the wrong. and. The reason I say that is because when guys getting getting like you said, they don't really they normally suspend somebody if. Somebody is the other guy. It's not. It's not the guy that's worth. One hundred dollars that you just pay. That's the number one receiver NFL voted by his peers and everybody else in the League you know is like I feel like he had a really really be the wrong here he had to really do something. That coach coach Payne was like, Hey, man Mike night obviously I understand who you are about I. can this up this but I I gotta show some type of leadership in his room and and this is GonNa let guys know if I if I was to spend you that nobody can get away with anything but I I, honestly I don't know what it what was going on. I'm not gonNA bring anything up but I think I think You know something something really had to happen because. Mike. Mike. I feel like. Microbial..

"You know we talk in football this off season if in contracts come up in everybody said Hey Dak Prescott is healthy. He's ready to go on I just don't want to see the cowboys plan around. Okay. No another thing that I heard you say was that when you come back from injury, it's tough to get back to full speed even if you are at one hundred percent because there's always that little piece in the back of your mind in the recesses that makes you think okay whether it's your ankle. Okay I'M GONNA take off run this one even though that ankle may be back to one hundred percent. They're still only ninety per seven percent effort that you're putting in because in the back of your head you're thinking okay. If I run full out full tilt, I might hurt this thing again, the same thing might happen hopefully, we don't see that from Dak Prescott. For him to deal with this injury during a contract year run. This is something you dealt with man what's what's that like from a player perspective as you sit there knowing that okay the contract it would be on the table, but this just occurred and things have changed drastically. I it it. It does a WHO swing and things because I got her a in up. When the highest paid defensive players in the League and your plan the whole season you know a contract coming up, but it's not like your plan for a contract like the cowboys they thought, Hey, going into the season we're about to show to make a run for the championship obviously beginning season. Are, they wanted depend out if they make it to the playoffs. Hey, they still have a chance. You know you can go seven, one, one, sixteen. If you make it into the playoffs, you still have you have a chance you know obviously, you don't want to the playoffs Mayo. But Eh chance you know and in the same thing when I got hurt I was just so focused on winning the championship is so focused on playing good. When you win championships, you get paid and you play and you play championship football you get paid, and that's what I was focusing on a hundred percent. That's what decks focus on. You see on every commercial in the NFL. So you don't get paid from commercials and things like that but it just and they you still having a Becker Hail Hey, my contrast coming up you hurts now you're like, oh, man, are am I going to get back to one hundred percent? and. Then now you have the teams thinking, is he going to get back to one hundred percent because? The injury he got is not like a comment injury. It's not it's not like it is he he? You know what is it what Kinda y'all's look how frank's fracture copyright brush factor but that doesn't sound great. Yes. Isn't that something Kinda like weather Gordon Hayward went through his ankle are when he got hurt from the Celtics in going to hear it was one of the best players in the NBA he's still struggling you know. Obviously played quarterback as two totally different things but is. Know. Just trusting trust in your body inserting movements is GonNa take awhile like pretty much. It took a while for me to actually like I trust my knee again by I was wearing a brace and I didn't even need a break anymore. My name is one hundred percent but just like I don't I don't trust. I don't trust the other guys enough and tackle like that probably. Times in his career. But now like every time he's running now he's GonNa let me I'm going to do when you down or you know I'm not about instead of like you know getting that extra yard like he might not fight for to actually are anymore he might just think about let me just get down because I'm not trying to get hurt anymore like little things like that. That changes your game a lot. Yet does and we'll see if Dak Prescott if he's more of a concentrated thrower when he comes out because of that injury to his ankle and he's going to be doing all right monetarily because we know in addition to all that NFL money that is getting the season on the franchise tag is also getting some of that. Soup and yogurt money you know about and yogurt money what is it on the coast and the Chunky? Yeah, he's an. sleepnumber man that's true. We Sleep Awale after has a bowl of soup and yogurt right before bedtime like I did you say that Andy Dalton best backup in the league I mean Jameis Winston just hit me on my cell not really but really but at Davis Winston sitting around there in New Orleans right now he's he's waiting for drew brees to keep throwing some of these short passes and some of that God is face. Let me say this. James has the most potential for a backup quarterback like. But me personally like and I might honestly right now I might take Jamie's over. But it critical situations are no antidote. Fuck it up. Okay. James will fuck it up like he got. He got lasix though his eyes are better. He knows where he's throwing now my wife trying to do so Trying to buy that. All right. Now, I thought about it. All right. Since we're talking DAK PRESCOTT and we're talking, Jameis, Winston, let's let slide all over to to New Orleans because we saw the saints come away with that victory. It was a nail biter, a Monday night football against the Los Angeles chargers and Justin Herbert I mean come on now that the young man he looks good I mean I know that's not how he wanted to become the starting quarterback with a punctured lung from tyrod. Taylor..
Bill Barnwell on NFL Undefeated Teams + Monday Preview
"Bill Barnwell. It is late Sunday night almost midnight, which means it's time for you to make me smarter about the NFL. I'm going to try my best Baba Bill. Barnwell is a senior writer for ESPN host of the Bill Barnwell show and he's procrastinating his deadline to talk to me. So we just watched the saints and the packers on Sunday night football and the saints lost without. Their Star Receiver Michael Thomas. But that did not stop us from getting a whole bunch of touchdowns drew brees and Aaron Rodgers. Each threw for three a piece. But in the end, the packers won the saints lost and they've now lost New Orleans says back to back games for the first time since two thousand, seventeen bill I know you are writing a new piece about drew brees coming off of the two year deal that drew brees signed in the offseason and what we've now seen from him through these first three weeks what did you see in Sunday night's games he regressing improving? What do we have with bruise right now? Okay. So public drew brees definitely improving this is a better performance from him. Me brees was downright bad on Monday night in week two against the raiders before we got to garbage time and breeze didn't do deep very frequently until this game was out of hand but I think the concerns i. have read or have heard about arm strength or how deep is passes typically go they don't really get how reason this offense actually worked. Breezes sort of like. A singles hitter in baseball like Tony Gwynn lagging time where a post player with no range in basketball he's not going to suddenly start throwing deeply. He's Patrick Mahomes at forty one years old breeze has succeeded. Over the last three years while throwing the shortest paths in the League because he's posted the three best single season completion. In NFL history. Now. The good news for the Saints Good News For Saints Fans is that brees was much more accurate on Sunday night it was twenty, nine, thirty, six for two, hundred, eighty, eight yards a lot of that West Alvin Kamara who did a lot of the work but still going to end up thirty six is still better than where brees was. The bad news was just about everything else. The Saints Lost Starters Jared Cook and Andres P to injuries while devante. Adams List Aaron Rodgers threw for two hundred, eighty, three yards and those three touchdowns you mentioned. The saints focused on adding veterans with nicknames Emmanuel Sanders and balcony. Jenkins this off season. But. Sanders hasn't been able to stand out with ankle Thomas Injured and Jenkins has been picked apart in pass coverage including Mercedes Lewis touchdown on Sunday night the attorney for more accurate breeze that was a bright spot. But if the saints continue to struggle with injuries and get disappointing play from their stars, the Orleans is going to need this version of free stick around to have a chance to compete in the NFC. So the packers emerged three no, and that's where a lot of focus the rest of our conversation here on the teams that are now undefeated through three weeks of the NFL season. So bill, let's push deeper into the NFC here because the Chicago Bears Be Chicago bears are somehow three you know and they do it by beating the Falcons thirty to twenty six Chicago was trailing by sixteen head coach. Matt Nagy Decides to pull quarterback Mitch Trubisky in favor of the veteran nick foles mister big bleep nick himself who goes on to throw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. So I have a two part question for you now. Why are the Falcons physically incapable of holding onto a fourth quarter lead and? Secondly, where does this leave the whole quarterback situation in Chicago? Let me answer the second part of that question I. The bears are going to flail by the seat of their pants for the rest of the season I would assume that nick foles is going to start until he struggles and the bears trailing by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter a couple weeks from now, I would point Mitch Trubisky will come in and lead them to victory and the cycle will start the new. Unfortunately I don't have one simple takeaway for our poor friends and Atlantic. Is Different From what we saw in week to as. Much. As the defense was disappointing in this game, the offense really deserves a fair chunk of the blame for what happened scored a touchdown on the opening drive third quarter, and then basically tried to sit on their lead, Matt Ryan and company REPA- total three first downs on their next six is before the bears took the lead back and the only scored one field goal over that time after bisky intercession back running back Brian L. dropped an easy third down conversion which would have put the Falcons and field goal range. Then on the next drive kicker, young coup miss a forty eight yard field goal attempt. I know. I mean let's be fair. The Falcons defense was very bad. I'm not sure the Falcons are gonNA make any drastic changes on Monday morning, but Arthur blank can feel great about seeing this happen. On his seventy eighth birthday and. I believe I'm not mistaken not the only person celebrating birthday on Sunday. Having Birthday Pamela. Day Pablo. Yeah this is a hard way to discover that you share a birthday with the owner of the Atlanta Falcons Bill, which feels like you just cast a pox upon my house.
Saints' Thomas out, Packers' Adams doubtful for Sunday

Davante Adams doubtful, Michael Thomas out for Packers-Saints clash
"Coach Matt LaFleur describe star receiver Davante Adams has probably doubtful for Sunday night Football with the Saints Titans receiver A. J. Brown will not play this week with a knee injury. The 40 Niners have ruled out George Kettle quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back where he Mostert all out for Sunday's game with the Giants. Nick Mullins will start at quarterback for San Francisco.
Is Drew Brees no longer the elite quarterback of the past
"Think it's time to sound the alarms on drew brees who was uncharacteristically erratic with his accuracy yesterday on top of of the week one game where he couldn't move the ball it's definitely too bad back to back weeks for drew brees. But I think this week them not having Michael Thomas out there I mean Alvin Kamara he's still look good but obviously, they need more than just him. He can't just be the Alvin Kamara show out there. So drew brees I. Think. Yeah. You have to be a little concerned at this that we're not seeing what we should be seeing out of him because Derek Carr put up the numbers that drew brees should have last night. It's another game where you know you look at breeze his average depth target is just over five yards, the vast majority, and this was obviously true with Michael Thomas to the vast majority of yardage that he's gaining is coming after the catch it's a different type of quarterback that they have to play around. Like Luke are my son, it became a saints fan a year ago, and my concern was like, well, you kind of jumped on this one a little late in the game had you been born earlier that might have been more profitable for you but he asked last night like is drew brees look so sad and I thought like like on a micro right like on a micro level it's because you're losing to the raiders on Monday night football and you're frustrated but like on a Matra level like the something in the is a breeze. Through me down the stretch like you can kind of get in the is well, you've seen this with Peyton manning to like in that last year and. First of all small sample size. Let's see what happens the true breeze but there are concerning distressing signals out there were seen it on the field and I thought that there was a look in the eyes of drew brees last night that sort of new something's changed here. It's not the end, but something's changed and heap maybe shares a little bit of the concern that we share because he had. You did and he. Does face. It makes me think about retirement. Remember he almost consider retirement. And players always say like once you think about it you're you're already you're already there. What did you see colleen last night? No. The same thing that's US did there was one shot in particular of through breezes face that he just you could see it was written all over his face. It was just pure dejection I. Guess to like He. He looked so sad in the moment time for that Viking funeral just put him on the wooden rafts now and push them out into the Gulf of Mexico start firing those arrows Taylor swift. They've got Winston. I Love Patras tweet where he said, we're like four weeks away from breeze coming down with a mysterious injury and Winston getting a little bit of a test drive. I mean listen that would be wild and I. Think our boy that boy wolf the number one saints fan on. Twitter pointed out that Winston had killer training camp, and and you know we also have, of course chastened Tatum Hill the twenty one, million dollar man who really has not been involved the offense too much through two weeks. Sean Payton is a guy that is if they continue to struggle you imagine it's going to be hard for him not to think about mixing things up or perhaps making a big change, but it still thinks I still feels a little premature especially the Michael Thomas. Out. Emmanuel Sanders had had a bad game yesterday. He's obviously not his straight he's in the. Chakwal Smith. IS THEIR NUMBER ONE RECEIVER So a lot of the states have a lot of work to do both in strategy and play and discipline. And now they got the packers. So that's going to be a games. Look forward to
Raiders open Las Vegas stadium with 34-24 win vs Saints
"We'll talk about the raiders right now at the number six, they were not in the power six last week but they snuck in this week after watching them last night against the New Orleans saints a tough team without Michael Thomas at the receiver position, they go on the road they lose this game to a team opening up a new stadium in Las Vegas despite not having any fans Jacobs, running the ball while or catching the ball in their car dylan to several different was Watt Jon Gruden. Donna place.
Fantasy Football Forecast: One BIG THING you should know for every Week 2 matchup
"I sit out the way New Orleans versus Las Vegas raters. We saw New Orleans showcase really really solid, really great defensive performance against Tom. Brady and the buccaneers They were pretty on disappointed as a team, lot of penalties on their defensive side of the front. The saints rebel to take advantage of that. La Raiders played against the Carolina Panthers last week and gave up thirty points. It's very possible that New Orleans doesn't look as Resi as they did against a really solid defensive front in Tampa. Bay and they might have their way with a raiders team that is still kind of pretty young and trying to get their footing and all this stuff. They don't they had an injury to majority of their wide receivers in the last game. So Dan, Waller seems to be their only solid option. At the receiving side of things that might mean there in Waller's uptick in target's share and my means, he gets an ends on this year or this week maybe something good happens for him I'm buying all the stock now I'm Kamara right now for this game, this should be Alvin Kamara. KAMERA's two touchdown, a hundred yards from scrimmage plus game. This is this is the one I wouldn't see why would be any otherwise and to be quite frank. I think that a lot of players on seem to have a really big game and this would be a really fun game to see trae Kwan Smith. I'm going to bring them up again. This'll be a fun game Trey Smith. Look to be a solid. Relieving game just for brevity and sake of saving saints, fans of fantasy fans alike, some worry as to what the saints offense can look like without Michael Thomas Soaking up a lot of the defensive pressure. All right. So Fancy implications all over the place you know Josh Jacobs. This could be a really good test to see just how much they believe in Josh Jacobs as a pass catcher because I don't know how much he's going to be able to do in the run game considering New Orleans is when had and still does on one of the better run defenses in all the football. I think the best game. Pound for pound this week has to be the night game on NBC, where New England is playing against Seattle that they're going to be playing in Seattle New England the we have a kind of banged up cam and she says it's the there's no hamstring issue but. Of Most people are saying that he does, Kinda. Have a little bit of a hamstring thing going on and we'll see how that affects him with all read option stuff and what we saw from last Sunday's performance maybe we started to see cam throw a little bit more, and then we can really see just what this doing his offense really has to offer for them sure that bill will have them ready for whatever and we saw sea hawks offense that basically let Russell Wilson do what people have been asking. Them to let Russell. Wilson do for basically the majority of the back half of the dense. You know twenty seventeen was to let Russ Cook and Cook did Russell Wilson? Do He only missed four passes? He had A. Great amount of yardage great touchdown passes de que look. Nice at times he did have some drops of course, Tyler Lockett looked really good. Chris Carson looked amazing. In the past game. We had some really good screens run in for touchdowns. They got tight ends involved the plethora tight ends at the seahawks own and their defense was literally flying around all over the place. Now, there are a lot of garbage time touchdown stuff in that Falcons game that I'm not GonNa hold against the defense when it mattered. Jamal Adams and of course. Everybody else in that defense just looked phenomenal. They just looked physical. They looked like they were flying around and making plays they look very formidable as team very formidable. So. That is a game as the May have a lot of implemented implications on things so KEEP IN MIND I think one of the better secondaries in the League is New England's granted they played against. The, dolphins but they did not allow that many receptions or receiving yards at all for either receiver on the dolphins and Tyler Lockett, and care very athletic fast guys but. It's going to be tough. Is GonNa be a tough about we'll see what happens. They may have to change up the strategy of leading Russ Cook for this game in particular and work through the old tried and true run the ball and try to make something happen later on in the game. But for US Russell Wilson owners like myself I hope they just let him throw the ball a little bit more that'd be nice. That would be fun I think we'd all like to enjoy that. So moving on towards another game I think the Baltimore Game at four, twenty, five eastern standard time on CBS is going to be a good one, Baltimore versus Houston. This game can go I think Houston is a team that kid look Jacqueline Hyde and they've been jekyll and Hyde ever since the Shawn Watson is come on that team and. Not Sage. It's the Sean played bad last Thursday. But he definitely did not look comfortable one hundred percent of the time and you just was trying to make plays. His offensive line wasn't there fully stout at all and when it was time to just throw throw throw things Kinda got out of hand for Houston Houston can't be a team that gets to behind too quickly or else it is going to be nightmarish for the offensive line. And it's going to be a bad day for Shawn Watson even though he can make miracles happen at will while Samour's in perfect position to take on a team that showcase bad tackling display. So this is a team. So if this is the time where you want to be like, okay JK Dobbins, he didn't have that many targets but hey, he got two touchdowns in is the time to test out the JK Dobbins is going to be. The album? Kamara. To Marketing Rooms Mark Ingram. So we'll see what happens here Lamar he this seem doesn't tackle well, Lamar could have himself a anywhere closer to forty to fifty yards rushing easily against this team if he wants it, and of course, Mark Andrews is a guy who I would think would eat very well against the Houston team that allowed drivers Kelsey to get like five catches in the first half with ease marched up and down the field with ease Look to see how David Johnson looks in his second bout. David Johnson had a nice surprise of a Comeback Week one performance that a lot of people were speculating was possible and he delivered for the most part. So that was encouraging for many people to go ahead and see so I wouldn't. Put it past him to do it once again. That's really really against the I think that Brandin cooks is still a bit. So that would not be. Great for folks owners. And I would be looking at anybody who has. Willie snead Willie snead was all over the place last week and it was almost to a shocking amount of how much willie snead was dependent on and I said Willie snead. That was not who I meant to say I meant to say will fuller will fuller will around the field for the Texans last week and I would like to see him continue that stretch because that would be. Pretty awesome to be completely honest. I. Would like to see a will fuller healthy and showcasing that he is here to stay in this league and thus it would not make me feel nearly as bad for short.
"michael thomas" Discussed on First Things First
"Know what gender this may not maybe a popular take but I think it's absolutely true. You know we never how important Michael Thomas's so that saints offense we know what he can bring. We know what he's done over the course of the last couple of years record-breaking type of numbers. But I, think the saints out of all the teams in the NFL are set up to. Be Able to win without this type of receiver, one of the top two receivers and the in, and here's a reason why you have a hall of fame head coach and champagne his ability to scheme guys open his ability to make sure that the play design can get guys open get them in space is second to none in the NFL you'd have a hall of fame quarterback. Drew brees and of course, he's not the same guy that he was five years ago but he's still gonna find the older receiver. He's still gonNA find a way to get the ball down the field and it may not be as far down the field, but he's still going to get the guy the the ball to the guys in-space where they need to give them to out. Of the Camaros one of the Best Combo backs in the league, his ability to run the football. But more importantly in this situation when you lose Michael Thomas now he has the ability in the options to go out there in lineup in the receiver position in catch ball. So I expect his targets to go up that means latavius Murray's going to have to play a role in gang. Courts. You have Emmanuel Sanders, who in my opinion in the slot and even outside is one of the quickest players in the NFL you can find a way to get him open in jerk who had five receptions, eighty yards this past game I I just think that they haven't offenses a group with the weapons that can find a way to win in this NFC south even without a Michael. Thomas at talented as he is, they could find a way to win. Be I strongly disagree any other team that would be a perfect take and you're dead on but not this team they're not set up like this and I wanna go back to backdraft round draft Tom There was a question asked about the saints and how often they are and I got into this back and forth with coach Peyton. And then also, you can fast forward to US break down this division in who can come out of the saints, the Bucks and I said something interesting and I got a lot of pushback when I say it was the saints will dominate the regular season but in a postseason. And people didn't understand what I was saying what I was saying was this. When you get in a postseason teams, identify your strengths or weaknesses, and then they they exploit them. There Straight and identity of this entire offense is number. Thirteen is Michael Thomas. You take him out. You're not only losing your number one receiver you're losing the identity of your team. It's not just plug and play with this team because if you bring in brought any sanders, you mentioned him if you put him at the exposition and Michael Thomas, spark then who's GonNa feel the position that they brought him to be They brought him to beat at Tag Game Guy. They take the top off. This team is built in an interesting way when everyone's healthy and everyone's there it works. But if a guy gets nicked up, if a guy goes down, then you're going to start seeing some interesting things you're going to start seeing people force things whether it's the play caller coach pay in the quarterback drew brees do breeze. I won't say that he struggled thrown to other receivers, but he's just not comfortable. So this is a huge deal and this is one of the reasons why I said last week it's week one. We need to stop with the overreactions because you don't know what's going to happen on any given play on any given Sunday this is a huge deal. I do think they'll be competitive, but they have a lot of work to do that. Try to figure out WHO's GonNa be the x receiver that Michael Thomas that connection, where you have two or three on a single option route and drew brees knows exactly what he's going to do. So you've got to really take that into consideration. We really talk about how this is set up the next couple of weeks. You know I think you have a really good point but I think this is why and probably more important than what they can do the authenticity out of the ball. In this situation this is why they will continue to be contenders because they have a very good defense Marshon lattimore a Jack Rabbit on the outside of Malcolm. Jenkins in the middle of the field at the safety position. Defense that's one of the best defense today they have had a very long time. It's so. They still put thirty four points last week Michael Thomas only had three cats, but he has an impact in just more than catches. So they have to figure out a way to do that but you tell me that a hall of fame coach Hall of fame quarterback. One of the best running back to the lead can't figure out a different way to do it. You combine that with one of the best defense in the League to me. If you can't figure out there, you have much more problems than losing one of the best receivers in a game micro Thomas. All I know is there on the road to Las Vegas and this is a hungry team, a team that put up a bunch of points. So they're going to have to score points to win in Las. Vegas, you got Green Bay at home, and then you have the Carolina Panthers who just put up thirty two nick. So you got to score points when you look at the next four games. All. Right. So here's what I know and I. This is something I. Don't know if I've ever said it on the show before. Because we've got two of my all time favorite players to all time. Great players, all pros and Brian Westbrook and Brandon Marshall have been do with three people who had spoken this segment. The other person is Jenna Wolfe and General Wolfe made the best most important point of anyone why was he in the game and the answer to that is because Sean Payton is a bit of a jerk not a bad thing buddy is that game was over the Hill play ended the game they were. It was to nineteen no timeouts, Tampa ball inside the ten you take three knees Tampa gets the ball back with twenty seconds left they take a knee themselves. So why was he in the game because Sean Payton more than any other coach in the League Wilde's likes to run up the score he wanted to hang a forty burger on Tampa in week one. The win. Wasn't enough. Calls a trick play for tastes them hill that he thought might get them the talks down. Oh, it just gets US inside the ten we're going to keep playing..

The New Orleans saints agreeing to who five years one hundred million dollars for a receiver deal includes twenty million dollar signing bonus which is what Thomas wanted all along. He wanted to break the bank Thank you want it to be the first receiver to average twenty million dollars a year. They gave him everything he wanted. The first nine figure deal in the history of the N._F._L. for a non quarterback offensive player okay. I guess it'd been defensive. Maybe you know linebacker linemen over the years but for offense out of corporate now why Why do you think that is folks. Why do you think that is I'll tell you why it is because quarterbacks for all the money that they cost are actually generally more durable than anybody else on the offensive side say perhaps an offensive tackle because they you know unless you have a really porous. offensive line. They don't get hit that much and they're not running with the ball and they're not going to Teheran A._C._L. And now who does that running backs and receivers levers and if you are going to give a hundred million dollars to receiver even great receiver. Michael Thomas and he is great and he is twenty six and you know if If you're ever GONNA give a guy of a five year deal for one hundred million dollars do it when he's twenty five or twenty six..

"To pay Michael Thomas the falcons are always going to pay Julio Jones but Julio us to wait a year because he just restructure that deal last season so he's going to see Michael Thomas and others might you side big deals it's gonna be interesting to see moving forward how the falcons and Julio Jones handle this thing knowing that at some point they're going to come into an impasse based on now the contract structuring works and they're gonna have to wait another season and who is going to go out there and play just like everybody is going to go out there play just like Ezekiel Elliott is going to go out there and play but I did take away from this outside of the states and looking at it from a micro level about how this continues to help drew Brees in the passing game especially the underneath game with a guy like Alvin kabar there you can throw the football to and it's gonna do wonders for Michael Thomas is going to be able to get behind some defense of backs and really open some things up the bigger question I had is why teams continue to pay top dollar at this position knowing that it's been proven in fact you don't need to pay top dollar at that position was Superbowl but I guess there's nothing more then bird in the hand syndrome that you have in the NFL Hey Michael Thomas is the latest example of it and you know I guess if you really wanted to stretch that you could look at other positions as well and quarterback.

"His rookie contract michael thomas saints receiver is getting very close to the n._f._l. rookie contract in part because he wasn't a first round pick and you know the adage in the n._f._l. never get between a player and his money the caveat to that is unless you're helping him get more short and went to twitter with a video supporting his teammate cam jordan who just got his latest contract said nobody's done what michael thomas has done in his first three years more receptions who's had more in his first three years his catch rates speaks for itself so jordan is all in with michael thomas being the highest paid receiver in football the question is when and if will the saints agree at last word significant gap between what thomas wants and what the saints will pay and one regular season of football away from thomas's contract expiring and it's having to go through the franchise tag dance or risk letting him get away i don't think they're gonna let him get away the question is when do they pull the trigger when did they put their best offer on the table and will it be so much money that thomas can't say no to it even if in theory he would like more that'll be the big question definitely a another thing that jumps out to me more than anything here to you know the saints team they they're close group i mean you know whether it was last year some of the dances teddy bridgewater you know you know acting like he's on the motorcycle hey i said michael thomas was not in the top ten last year your top ten wide receivers cam jordan came to his defense on social media i mean they seem like a close group and this is what a leader doesn't the locker room but cam jordan guy like this he respects what he's seeing from michael thomas as far as work ethic the intensity he brings to the office on a day-to-day basis cam jordan just got paid and he's going to be a leader in the locker room and try to get another guy who he sees as a leader to get paid as well and i think that will go a long way with come rotary with the team respecting the locker room you know those are the kind of things the big time players do and kudos cam jordan for that you buried the lead there you've admitted that your propensity to attract attention through click bates and trolling isn't new pay it last year but it wasn't because of that because iraq them i didn't tell you that you did okay all right let's let's say when we return we're working through the top thirty storylines entering the twenty nine thousand nine season a pro football talk dot com we talked about number thirty yesterday number twenty nine is coming today and it deals with a guy taken in round one in washington who may or may not be on the field this year when will dwayne haskins be the starting quarterback that is a story we will pay attention to and talk about when p._f._c. live returns right after this as we worked suburban garden gnome catholic catholic without studying it he notice moves like not to its inanimate an utterly without brain function but despite that when it got no his how iko not only saves people money but also gives them access to licensed agents twenty four seven online and over the phone it's clear to them you should switch because yes switching to geico is a no brainer on second thought maybe what god knows.

"Exactly. So I I think it's a wash. But I would go make a somewhat cheap offer in every league for Michael Thomas because some owners I've seen this on Twitter of seeing this as questions are coming in to me. They just think Michael Thomas has done. They think Dez Bryant is coming in. And now Michael tonic. No longer the one which is because all name of does Ryan letdown. Listen to this show might think that yes. And so I'm telling you if you're out there, go make a cheap offer for Michael Thomas Brooks might thinks that owners tilting if that owner is tilting, and you can steal a Michael Thomas. Michael. Congratulations. Big news this morning Darren sproles aggravated the hamstring injury. He's gonna miss week ten this guy. He's the oh, I had not heard that. I'm just so bad for him. Yeah. I heard oh, he's finally ready. He's he reactivated this morning. The if he didn't read the right up from sproles over the off season of why he is coming back. It was a great piece emotionally powerful before the season on this. So for him to have dealt with this. I mean, not that we were expecting sproles to be a huge fantasy contributor this year. But he's been the man for a long time, huge respect for sproles. So this is very unfortunate. Not the way loses season, and possibly the oh this has to be the end of his career. Well, no, we because he's just gonna miss week ten. So I don't think it's the end of his career is aggravated it, and we'll see what happens in week eleven we got fly through this news. We've got a lot of matches to get to Allen Robinson practicing in full for week. Tens great news. Doug..

"Game, changing wide receiver wearing the. Number thirteen jersey who unquestionably ranks as one of the top three receivers in the NFL today. So it's funny, you commend a guy in Michael Thomas for being on a bad team or seven and nine mediocre team when a guy, a guy like Jarvis Landry consistently put up very, very similar numbers on a terrible Miami team. It just doesn't make any sense to me. It's weird and I don't know if it's media perception or what it is that Jarvis Landry is considered, you know that lesser to your receiver than than Michael Thomas. And I'm not sure whether it's the poor publicity, the stuff with Adam case and his his dismissal from Miami and sent being sent to Cleveland. I don't know what the, you know what that is. They seem like a very comparable set of receivers. Honestly, if we're going to look at it and we're gonna talk about who the actual top three is in the NFL at this moment, in my opinion, guys that make plays in guys that change the game every time they're on their, you're looking at Antonio, Brown, Julio Jones, and Odell Beckham junior, and it's not really an argument guy. Is that have put it together for the last four or five years as opposed to just to us. Okay. We've been talking about this for a while. How do you feel about ninety seconds on the clock. Rebuttal time. She just me and you going back and forth, just me and you. Let's do it. Ninety seconds owns clock. All right. What in your mind makes back? I'm a better for Thomas. It's that fact that defenses have to consistently game plan for Michael Thomas benefits. This euro Odell probably benefit from defenses having to focus a lot on saquon. But Michael Thomas certainly benefits from Alvin Kamara being on the field over and over again. Odell can do it by himself, but Beckham twenty five catches last year injuries injury prone season hasn't had the longevity hasn't had this sort of overall consistency of once you get past us for three years. He's missed one season because of the injury. That was just last year. It was a major major loss, and he's averaging what eight catches your this, your own pace for good season, but not a Michael Thomas season. Something like some. I don't know what's eight hundred and hundred and five, something like that hundred obviously great season. But in this modern day, all passing air offense. I don't think it's all that impressive in the thing. I didn't commend Thomas for being on a bad team. I pointed out that he's the reason that that team turned around and became a Super Bowl contender. Again, when is Dell Beckham junior done that it's very weird that Michael Thomas gets the credit when the saints had a guy that was basically historic from from with yards from the line of scrimmage and Alvin Kamara who basically turned that offense into something completely different, allow drew Brees to be even more diverse quarterback than he already was also compare their quarterbacks ally Manning's would on the downslide of his career for a very long time, and it's clearly showing week in and week out..

"Michael, hey, how's it going? Thank you for taking some time from training camp by pre shaped, hopefully to welcome break for you. The pre-tape. You guys have more start out by saying that back in February of two thousand sixteen. I was in Indianapolis at the combine, had dinner with one of your college teammates, ally, apple. And I remember saying to him during dinner in this great draft class of Ohio State players that includes Joey Bosa and is equal Elliott and Taylor decker, and Darren Lee and von bell and Braxton Miller, Nick net, and Josh Perry and cartel Jones, who's the one guy that you think is going to have the best career in the NFL and he didn't hesitate. He goes Michael Thomas. What did he tell me? The Michael Thomas of that great draft class was going to have the best NFL career. You know, we went at it in college. We compete allow competed every day, let's type of environment where we came, we competed and him being in defensive back, you know, when it gets each other a lot and we've got each other honest and every day we know we're getting better and that would help us win games in the horseshoe on Saturdays and play for championships. So there's no probably saying consistent, develop a routine and then eventually off on game day. Michael, how much have you followed those other guys. I follow them all the time. I'm always happy for them to have. It's as long as I'm not going to get them. But other than that, other than not, I'm looking for them to see. We take pride in our school. You know, a lot of these guys could have chose from many different universities, but because the highest safer Regan quite big time football in the big time environment. So we kinda try to go to the NFL and play with some pry what's your assessment of what's going on at Ohio State now. I have. I've been in training camps. I haven't much time to really pay attention to what's going on, but I've just been focusing on my content. Good for you. Okay. So I want to go back over the last two seasons. We talked about that conversation with ally APPA. When we look back at your first two seasons in the NFL you had a hundred ninety six catches which is the most receptions in the first two seasons that anybody has ever had an NFL history. The only people close Georgia's Landry one hundred ninety four Odell Beckham junior at one eighty seven. What do you have in mind? Michael for year three coming up. People going try to set a high standard for so a long ways. Lee help leading this team to get him back to play offs and plan for a championship. You know, it's all it's all you know, strategic and it's steps in the make the right steps and directions to play for a championship. So every day, just coming out here, staying true to the game, staying disciplined and consistent, all type of things going to it. And then eventually, you know, when you look at them to season, especially things out there. What will be the biggest difference in your game this year compared to the first two years. It's a lot of a lot of small nuances and details play a big part in this game because you know everyone's talented guys watched them. You know, you have to be real disciplined in detail to once you do as you success in this league, you wanna say consistent, but you also when they wanted weaknesses and there's a lot of little things I could do better. That will help helped me with a lot when my game though that will create bigger results. So just a little things taking coaching correcting the mistakes, not making the same mistake twice. Just attention to detail all those. The little things you're talking about, cleaning up, mistakes, attention to detail. Anything else. Yeah, just always trying to become a complete player always trying to, you know, max out my potential and then maxed out again, it's every day just, you know, ask him what he wants being in the right place at the right time. Moving and change getting first downs, converting third downs, all types of stuff. You know, just help. Anything that helps. I've I to save is all the things that I'm trying to enhance Michael. Do you draw any motivation from the fact that this off season, we've seen players like Jarvis Landry and Mike Evans and Stefan digs get paid big money..

"Now, my colleague idiots PIN Ryan Clark to discuss some of the players in today's game, and we'll be joined by the New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl wide receiver. Michael Thomas who discusses his expectations for the coming season. But first, Ryan Clark, thirteen years in the NFL as an undrafted free agent, which is a legendary run. How does somebody play for thirteen years when nobody wants them out of college, a lot of blesses and look at them. You know, it was one of those things. It was kinda what helped me played thirty years because even when you get an opportunity to start and you play a ton, you always feel like the guy and a lot of cases because they treat you that way like you. They're always trying to figure out a way. To replace you because they remember the negatives or the things they thought you couldn't do coming into the league. And you look back at the Washington Redskins. I star for them for two years show and tell her and I have a great tandem, add safety, and what do they do? They run out and make Atta March letter. The highest pay safety in the game because still they remember atom running fast and being strong. These crazy workout tapes s compares. It is under the guy who didn't run as fast who wasn't as big. And so you continue to fight your whole way through your career. And that's what kept me training and kept me eating right and doing things that allowed me to play thirteen years. There's a stigma that comes along with being undrafted free. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. There's a stigma that comes along with nobody wanting you with seven rounds of draft going by and not one team. Not on there. I tried out in a second. Try not on their eighth. Try some teams, even thinking you're good enough to be picked even thinking. You're good enough to have a contract where you get some type of money that's guaranteed. And so when they see those things. They remember the negatives about you and usually those things are physical right used it. Those things are are measurable. So they're always looking for the person with a better measurable until you find a way to play yourself out of a James. Harrison eventually found a way to play himself out of it. I eventually found a way to play myself out of it, but it takes years. How do you do that? I think you gotta just continue to show him right because when you are, here's what I always tell guys went out, train them while I meant to them is when you're a first round guy, you have to do everything you possibly can to prove to team that you cannot play right. And usually when teen feels like you can't play look at like ghosts, and that gets dragged from the New York Jets when that team feels like you can't play. There's another team who was drafted in twelve or fifteen that year when you went top five, this is, oh, no. I remember this guy he could play for me and when you're undrafted guy, you have to prove over and over and over again that you can't play. So when was that moment that you knew that you had overcome it? Is much you could overcome and that you had arrived and that people weren't looking at you as Ryan Clark, the undrafted free agent, but rather Ryan Clark, the safety who can play because that's how I think of you. Right. I'll be honest with you had a very good year my first year in Pittsburgh, but they drafted Anthony Smith from Syracuse. Guy was a forty inch vertical. He was built. He was the guy that guaranteed that the Steelers are going to beat the agents. Guy, right?.
