"The White House has declared monkeypox a public health emergency. Sort of like Michael Scott, declaring bankruptcy. The Health and Human Services secretary Xavier becerra basically went out to the middle of the office and shouted. I have declared a public health emergency. Here he was yesterday. In light of all of these developments and the evolving circumstances on the ground, I want to make an announcement today that I will be declaring a public health emergency on monkeypox. Okay, and then Xavier becerra said to reporters quote, we are prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus, and we urge every American to take monkeypox seriously. I'm not going to take monkeypox seriously. On a personal level. Sorry, not going to. I don't mean like, I'm not worried about people getting monkeypox or transmitting monkey box. On a personal level, I have zero concern about getting monkeypox, and you shouldn't either unless you are engaging in promiscuous sex with people you don't know. That's all. This idea that everybody is equally vulnerable to monkeypox in the same way that you were vulnerable to COVID is totally crazy. And the fact that the federal government continues to push this line is ridiculous on its face.

"Every Friday. Like, you're gonna end up hating the job because of something as dumb as that. So go ahead. And now it's just like, you know, you know when you meet somebody and then you laugh onto the one or two things that you know and every time you see them, you bring that up. But usually that's over. If you don't see someone for a month, it's like, oh, I know you're like a stewards fan. Oh, ISD whereas Big Ben retired, and you just bring shit, you bring the same shit up. This guy does that, but every single day. I mean, you're right. At some point, that guy can't be your boss long term because you're going to lose your mind. You're going to blow up at him, your productivity is going to go down because you're just going to be so annoyed by how stupid. And the amount of conversations that are pointless with this guy, and to your other point, Ryan, I've always said this, it's so important. And I could tell so much about a person based on how they are just able to come into a room with a bunch of people and just not be awkward. And there are different studios that we'd have people come in the studio, different PAs, different people from TV, different, whatever. And you gotta be able to tell when in the first 30 seconds of the couple. First couple words out of their mouth. What their first question is or what they're in is. And whether or not they just have it or not, whether or not they're just like a good hanger now. Wasn't that they're just like a dude or not. And it sounds like this guy's just not a dude. If he's not fucking with you, it just sounds like he's probably has some, I don't know if it's social anxiety or just doesn't have a ton of friends or whatever, but he's just he's probably just not a great hang, and he's trying really hard to connect with you, but it's never going to work. And you got to figure out with those other coworkers or if you could transfer different managers because your productivity in the long term is going to suffer because of it. Wow. I think it's totally fine. I'm surprised at you guys. You ride this out, Kyle. Benefits? Totally. Parking. Totally. I'd just be like, hey, what's up with fucking pizza pie guy? What's your name or something? I think it would be fine, honestly. I mean, how often does he really like in your business? What do you have to meet with him about what you have to do and then you do it? And I don't know. And they might even like, you might even be the nicest one out of everyone else to him. And that might help in the long run just by sheer tolerance of them because there's so many people that maybe don't possess that quality. Who knows? Why would you handle the 17th time you were asked if it was pizza pie Friday? Like I let you know after lunch? I don't know. I'd come up with weird things to say back, I guess. I don't know. I think it'd be fine. I've had managers that are like, don't get me at all. And whatever. So I don't know. Let's just guys like continuously promoting you or like three months. Who knows what's gonna happen, right? It's just not worth it. No, I don't know. So Rudy classical millennials think it's three months worth my promotion. No, I'm just saying like unless there's he's gonna make me miserable. So if I'm not getting anything out of it at my job, then I don't want to be a part of it. I mean, you're three months in dude. You can get another job. It's not that big. It's like you've invested a ton of this particular career. I know my work. I'm shocked. I think this guy is the guy that's brought to email. He's smart. And there's just going to be these little things. I think there's a lot of people listening that would find it maddening, really you told me you don't know how to use excel. You've sent me excel attachments in emails. And you keep telling me you don't know how to use it. That's crazy. Some people would roll with it. Some people are better at being employees. Oh my God, college just sneezed again. It looked like he had a heart attack. All right, let's wrap up the podcast here because I don't know if he's gonna he still has work to do today too. Quickly. Really quickly. The question would be like, I've always thought about this. If there was like a real life situation where you were in the office and your boss was a Michael Scott type. You would be missed. That would be so fucking miserable. It would be terrible. It was funny in the show. James gray and all that, but that's what this is. You would be miserable. But you didn't say the guy's bad at his job, like Michael was really bad at his job, and stuff wasn't it done. It was a miracle, the branch wasn't closed, especially with all the other branches. So I think that's just if there was a Michael Scott like he wouldn't make it, right? I don't know, guys. The branch did numbers. Yeah. Yeah, but do numbers. He wasn't like doing like he wasn't rolling out the initiatives. He wasn't doing any of the stuff. I don't know. Movie Monday, you never had a party. I was an increased productivity because they have to work even harder for all the time. They've been. Come on, after that, he's gone, unbelievable. You know what I always thought was the genius of the Michael Scott character is that he was all the things you just said. Bad hang would never want to hang out with him. You know, the jokes aren't good, social cues, all the awkwardness. But they would have moments where they'd have somebody else be worse and Michael would almost be cool around them, where Michael would be aware in that moment. Like, this guy sucks. And it was almost like Michael's cool tier wasn't at the bottom. There were steps below him, and they would share that with you every now and then. And that was talking the office. Let's stop talking. Let's end the podcast. Let's let Kyle try to get two hours of movement in him. And so that we can find out 48 hours, how the back workout went, or just any workout. Oh my gosh that had to be the writers inspiration for angeles comedic style. I was very impressed with how prepared. Angela was prepared and her mike work like she took the mike off. Wave to the crowd for everyone to say michael scott she was into it next up is kelly and she does a list of who and what. She would rather kiss then. Michael scott all right got to jump in and just tell you guys. There are so much extra stuff in the deleted scenes for the roast. We also find out. Kelly has a second bit where she says she knows that michael dyes his hair. Oh yeah that one day. It was raining and his hair. Dye dripped onto her arm and she'd color matched it and michael uses clairol natural instincts midnight black. She's just all other bit. And then i think meredith is the most pressing she says michael. You're the reason i drink. You're the reason i live to forget. Yeah ooh oscar roasts michael in spanish and he speaks very quickly has a lot to say a lot to say very passionate. There's so much more oscar. The deleted scenes first of all. He does multiple jokes in english before he gets to his spanish roast. And i think we need to hear him. The only man in the state of pennsylvania who is less likely to get legally married in me is michael. Scott michael scott is so dumb he thinks balancing a checkbook is putting a check on his nose and shouting look at me. Look at me. Michael is so bad with money. He invested in enron last week. Privileged michael is the biggest idiot. I know and Finally sometimes lay awake at night. I'm sure all of you too. And wonder what the hell did. I do to deserve this. I mean oh my gosh. He just calls him an idiot. Oh my gosh. Michael is kind of realizing that. Maybe this wasn't as fun as he thought it would be. But things are in motion. Now yeah and everyone can't wait to get up on stage. Toby tries to have a turn. But michael shoots him down. You says only friends friends only and then there is a deleted scene. Genetic oscar brings a cell phone up on stage because jan. Who isn't there has decided to call in so she can roast michael amazing all right. We gotta hear it. Well michael you ruined my life okay. Everything is turns to crap. You have no sense of how to please any woman. I believe that once you wrote a phone message on my diploma and you use my daughter's christening gown as a bib when you eat ribs. I mean you're just you're just okay lee an ass. Hey goal you're an okay. i have to say clearly. The writers had a lot of fun writing this roast because in addition to all the deleted scenes remember last week when i said our candy bag for this episode was two hundred. Seven pages are all jokes. They all roasting joke. They're almost all alternate roast jokes. I do ages and pages and pages. I do remember that people got up multiple times. Oh yeah they just kept handing us say in the candy bag. They had all these alz for japan when she called in so in addition to this deleted one over this one really pleased share stuck out to me but she says it only took one night of misguided drunken passion with michael to ruin my entire life. I would have been better off just given me syphilis. Oh my gosh. Well now. Jim is going to get up. And he's gonna guess list all of the sayings that michael has butchered spider face. Gosh dwight is feeling bad for michael. So he hops up on stage to defend him right. Yeah and michael's like idiot. You're doing it wrong. you're doing it wrong. And then dwight snaps and like what. You're calling me an idiot. Like he's up there trying to defend him he's like you're just a small pathetic little man. You have no friends. No family. And no land. And he walks offstage in everyone cheers. Well now it's pam's turn. I remember so clearly shooting this i remember. Because after roasting him about falling for internet scams and being lazy at work. I had to say that michael's penises small. I mean this is the ultimate nail in the coffin of the roast michael in particular. I mean michael. Like i know. Thinks he's like the womanizer. Because remember in an earlier episode pam knocked on the door and michelson come in and he did not have his clothes on and payables. Why did you say he was changing for fun. Run exactly so pam is gonna call that back and she's going to make a joke at his expense. We did this a few ways that we started by having me. Just say it on the stage but then they thought this is kind of a low blow right. Yeah and it's bold for pan. It is so they were like. Let's try this one on the move like a throwaway exactly and so that's what ended up making it into that bestowed and then we have an old tech alert that helps you really just punch him one more time. Oh yeah everyone's like how small is it. And then pam says if it were an ipod shuffle. Do some people even know that joke. Do they even joe. Do people still have ipods. It was a big deal. We were so excited to have our ipods with all of our music on it just music only music guys and they came in different sizes and shuffle was and you could get a tiny one in like clip it on your like armband and go running. I never did that. I don't run but could you could have. It looked cool. Yeah with your headphones. That had a cord that had to go to it. So you couldn't pump your arms too hard. No no oh. How many times did i just yank cord out of my ipod. I know i was gesture not exercising. I'm so sorry the wrong idea. I was gesturing wildly. Well now daryl's gonna come up and this one was really grungy darryl says michael. You always say we're family right. Yup so if your family you know everyone's names what's that guy's name any points to a warehouse employee and michael clearly doesn't know his name and it's so awkward. His name is michael and not only is his name. Michael but michael him a car ride home and they were in traffic for like an hour together awkward but really what rounds it all out. What is michael scott at a wedding. What is michael scott lake at a supermarket or dwight or kevin and you think about these characters and clear. Clear comedy engines. And when you like you can say what. Dwight would be like at the supermarket. It's like because he's a fully formed character. And when you start writing your own shit and you are like what is edward due at the supermarket. You're like well. He buys groceries and he argues anyway. Why does he argue is he loud. You know what. I mean like you start questioning these things. And that's how a character becomes a character and not someone who just delivers lines. Because edward is the cop that needs to solve any right right right and then the other thing used to do was strange pairings joys..

There are moments in my life. I'm very intrigued with his character. But there are also moments in my life. Where i feel. Michael scottie and i think everyone does but i thought that was unbelievable. So amazing and there's a sweetest to it. Because i've told some people that and they're like oh but michael you love my goal and you know he's he's connected and he loves but like i immediately went to the most ridiculous signs of michael. There was a moment after it. Where i thought of him where i was trying i had to type up an email that is going to have to send as soon as i got home. I was god. This is terrible. Say i was on the side. I was at a stop light and had my computer open open and i was typing because i finish typing at the second. I got home i was going to send it and i just imagined like a cop pulling me over with my laptop mean the drivers driving and laptop open. And he's like ma'am you know. And i'm like i'm not texting. I'm not i'm moments where i'm like. I think maybe. I am but over along here but yeah but i i'm fascinated with what makes people tick and the layers underneath people and i feel like writing for me is about connecting. Who's a physicist to come from a very kind of nerdy adore them family if this is a psychologist and a mechanical engineer is my brother and my dad was in had a high level position where he ended up having to fire people and i remember him telling me about firing people from the point of view of a boss that it's like you always are thinking about the person gets fired because that's the person you're sympathizing with right. Of course you're gonna tell story you would sympathize with the person who's being fired. Remember my dad saying it's very kind of lonely weird thing you know and you having to make a decision that's affecting another person and it's really difficult and sort of the extension of that with having michael scott who just like you guys are his family and if he has to get rid of one of you. It's devastating was just sort of an interesting way to see things that affect him but to understand and feel for him. Do you know what i mean. I think i think it's the feeling for him and seeing the underbelly and seeing the why of what he's doing as opposed to what i think was a very common network note often which is make someone more likeable and i think that if you take that for what it sounds like just make somebody more likable. If you're taking all the character and everything away and your softening them into this benign mush of human which with imagine corral having to play somebody just you know the couldn't have any edges. Should You Give Awards to Your Team?
"Today's episode reminds me of a reoccurring episode that you might have caught on the office. You know that sitcom with all those people working at denver mifflin the paper company in pennsylvania. There was this reoccurring episode of them all going to chili's and attending the ceremony. They called the dundee's were michael scott. The boss of the office would give out little trophies. The ones you would see like at kids soccer matches to the people at the office at the company for different and sometimes strange accomplishments on the show. It's very clear that only michael scott. The boss is really enjoying themselves. At the dundee's they're all kind of forced to kind of go along with it and it begs the question. Is this a waste of time. Do people do this just because they feel they have to do this and recognize their employees in some way with some company party. This is stuff ever work and my answer is yes. It does work even in the show the office when they got up in the chili's to get their award even avert the strangest thing like white sneakers in the office in that moment when the receiving the award they have faced. They're happy now. This is obviously the cheesiest most lamest of version of award giving your company but the making. Here's everyone wants to feel. Recognized wants a fuel validated once a feel valued and sometimes just being recognized by someone that maybe is your boss or somebody look up to in front of their peers is just enough okay. Don't underestimate the value of praise praises. One was powerful things. People love hearing how well they're doing one feel good about themselves. They want to have confidence in. This happened by accident. You have to give them fuel for that confidence. So you don't need to formally have like an award ceremony and give out certificates and trophies. But you do need to recognize and praise in my opinion. I think you should do it in different frequencies and at different levels. So whether you're having a weekly team meeting and you're generally praising people and then the next time you meet with everybody else hands you point out some people on your team that are doing a good job and you praise them in front of your whole team and then maybe once a year when you have your team retreat and winter giving him maybe a gift to them a small gift to them before giving the gift you can say their name you can recognize their accomplishments and the Contributions to the team and why they're valued and it's just a gift but the gift we perceived as an award because the combination of the validation the praise along with gift and of course you could do it in your own style. You can do it in your own brand and way of your business and by the way. These gifts don't have to be expensive. They can literally be a pair of earphones or a notepad or gift certificate. The gift value is really not that important. The thought really does count and as long as something that they would like her will find useful to appreciate

A four teenage girls found dead in an incinerated yogurt shop. This is the yogurt shop. Murders and december sixth nineteen ninety-one. It was a chilly friday night. In austin texas fifteen year old. Sarah harbison and her thirteen year old friend. Amy eire's or airs again apologies. If i get names wrong. Were at north. Chris mall in downtown austin in nineteen ninety-one they were milling around shopping. Just kind of killing time until sarah's sister jennifer and her friend and coworker allies at thomas. They were all going to to a friend's for sleepover party afterwards. It's it feels like a very. And this i think is what gets me too. It feels like a very like typical nineties. That i would have absolutely been part of and i could see myself in this specific time and place just before midnight austin police department officer troy gay was patrolling the area. He noticed smoke rising up from the strip mall. Gear reported as a fire and firefighters soon arrived on the scene as they were extinguishing the blaze. They saw it wasn't just a fire. It was a murder scene jennifer. Sarah amy elisa were dead. All of the girls were naked bound gagged with their own clothing jennifer. Sarah eliza were found deep in the store and a kind of supply closet clustered into one corner allies. And sarah were stacked on top of each other while jennifer lay close by legs were spread wide open. One body had an ice cream scoop placed on it. They were all shot in the back of the head. Execution style with a twenty two lead bullet. Sarah's hands have been tied behind her with a pair of underwear that she had also been gagged with and she was raped. Jennifer was not bound but her hands behind her back. Elisa have been gagged in her hands were also tied behind her their bodies were burned almost beyond recognition with napkins and other flammable items from around the shop on top of them clearly used to help burn their bodies. They also doused and lighter fluid. The fire was so bad in the room. Austin reporter. Dick ellis recounts the melted. The top rungs of a heavy aluminum ladder in the back of the store. Amy's body was discovered alone in a room closer to the main dining area. She was not as hard as friends but she received second and third degree burns on twenty five to thirty percent of her body. She was found with a sock like cloth around her neck. She had been raped shot similarly to the others but the bullet had missed her brain. She had a second bullet which did go through her brain hitting her cheek and exiting through her jaw based on the patterns in the rooms. Killer may have stacked all four bodies on top of each other but amy had pulled herself off and managed to crawl out to a different part of the store. There was five hundred and forty dollars missing from the store itself. Police also deduced. The two guns had been used to commit the murder suggesting there were multiple killers in the days. After i mean everyone was obviously incredibly upset but of course a lot of cases that we talk about lots of mistakes were made and lots of people were suspects. The police department had over three hundred suspects initially and lots of false confessions right out the gate. The i suspect was a fifteen year old maurice pierce who was caught with a twenty two handgun in north crest mall the same night as the murderers. The same gun used to kill at least one of them. Eight days later he was brought in although he initially promising information after tough questioning detectives decided maurice was trying to get himself out of a gun charge and eliminated him and his three friends that he had implicated. "All right so last night. President trump basically said to corona virus. I'm in control here. And Corona Virus said to you in control so things are not going great out there with the grown of the big problem of course continued lack of information. The testing kits were not widely available. We just don't know how many people in the United States actually have corona virus. We don't even know how many people abroad have for a virus. What we do know is that there's certain measures that have been taken the harsher the measure Z teams. The faster the Groenemeyer is brought under control. This is true in Wuhan. It was true in South Korea where you've seen a significant bending of the curve. That is what people are calling it. The curve being the number of people who are infected and then number of people who are dying this obviously means that people are now getting increasingly serious and cautious about going to wide scale public events. Now that if you're young and you go to a big public event you're GonNa but that if you go to a public event you may become a carrier or transmitter to somebody who is more vulnerable. Somebody with a pre existing condition. Somebody who doesn't have a strong IMMUNE SYSTEM. Cancer Patients Leukemia patients. People who are older. All of this is is deeply frightening. I mean there's no other way to put it. You look the news. It's hard not to be scared and the reason it's hard not to be scared as when you see Italy shutting down every public space like all public spaces except for grocery stores and pharmacies.
