"And Michael Riedel in the morning on the Voice of New York, 7 10 Wooo. I'm still in a state of shock here. I mean, I can't believe that Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville was deemed to be a loser of a song and that Riedel with some drawn out days of wine and roses, wins the food and drink song competition for this morning. I'm just I'm just depressed as well. Considered and also, your song from yesterday has been disqualified by Joe the judge. That's a new name, Joe the judge, because you chose the wrong section bottle of red bottle of white Yes. In the beginning of the song, Billy Joel is talking about a bottle of red wine about a white one. But then you played the part where he says a bottle of red's a Bible whites. He's talking about pills, then. Poppers. Stimulants. Things that you could use right now. You can wake up. You know, Joe has been a delight to but particularly Joe's been annoying me for a long time now, and it's just, you know if Noam Laden wants to come back and fill it to the judge, but I did get interesting email. From a listener named Morgan, who says driving out to Sag Harbor? I think I'll put buffet on now. Sure beats listening to Redl. Good one. Thanks, Morgan. The big headline today is the case where the judge's family was attacked in the North Brunswick Township, New Jersey, and the sun was killed. The husband was seriously injured. The judge was not hurt. And and now we have AH guy who we think pulled the trigger. He killed himself with a gun and supposedly was involved in the case in California as well to sort it all out for us. We've invited on the ABC News senior investigative reporter Aaron Carter Ski And Aaron Ah. Any more twists and turns to the story because it really is. It's a tragedy on so many levels. It is Len. But there are a couple of more twists that we're learning about this morning. One is that Roy den Hollander. Who lived on East 14th Street. The FBI has been going through his apartment last night and again today, taking out items to peruse. It turns out that after they found him dead of an apparent You know, self inflicted gunshot wound up in the Catskills in Sullivan County. They discovered the name and photograph of another female judge, New York State's chief Judge, Janet if Yuri And she is now out of an abundance of caution, no doubt receiving some kind of protection, even though Hollander is dead and does not pose a direct threat, but it does raise a question as to whether he had other Judges, particularly female judges in mind. We've also learned lend that that he was diagnosed last year, according to a go fund me page that has since been deactivated with terminal cancer. And at 71 you then wonder if this was his, you know, on his way out settling perceived scores or or or or you know grievances that he had. Against women because he was a self described anti feminist. At one point, he wrote to the then attorney general Jeff Sessions about living under what he called Feminazi rule, and he had complained in his own writings about the Latina judge, meaning Judge Esther Solace. Who was appointed by President Obama. Talking to Aaron Carter Ski, ABC News senior investigative reporter. So did he appear before judge Solace At some point he did in 2015 Michael He appeared in a case doing pro Bono work on behalf of a woman who wanted to apply for the draft for the military draft and challenged the male only draft of the country. And that case was actually supposed to be heard. This past June, but because of Corona virus was was delayed..

"Michael Riedel one seven ten W. so quickly the new unemployment numbers around two point four million which does differ from the three in change from a last week and it does bring up the total out of thirty eight point six million just a quick recap of Michael song of summer in the last segment oh my god these good songs about and so little bird it should so that's at Tom I'll send us an email not our boss Tom but Allister name Tom he said really some sacrament not made from full burqa summer song maybe if the radio is playing and have broken legs and can't get up the chain station that song has a lot to me for you and I we had a big crush on Julie who is two years older than I was the summer of seventy nine I never heard that song I thought of her thank you wrecked on Julie she she remembers still good on the line join us every week at this time the ABC entertainment contributor so Larry good morning to you and you know big story broke this week I thought well it did for me personally was Matt Lauer coming out on the media I. website and going after Ronan Farrow and all the things he wrote about Lauer and I'm taking all our side I don't yeah I'm not sure there's any evidence of rape or sexual assault I appropriate you know having one of the people that work well that's one thing but not rape or sexual assault what your thoughts are well I think the combination of both Baptiste which he wrote in February in a bag you start yes you have been a couple of months ago and then a banned Smith's piece in the times which of course it you know there's nobody nobody has an axe to grind in that story presumably right he's not the subject of the story raises serious questions that frankly I've had a lot of Jello German keypad about Ronan Farrow not to say that what that that he didn't nail Harvey Weinstein and that Matt was not a very very bad boy in the office there's no question about it is the principle is behavior was appalling but there's a more lots of things in the road in Parel book the suggestion that NBC wanted to tell a story because they were scared of wind Steen I'd be I'd be out the allegation of rape against mad that in many cases kind of put him out over his skis in ways that ordinary journalistic organizations would not do and it's interesting now the blowback of continuing yesterday on the view which is the chat show on television Abbas will be Goldberg and others Meghan McCain who's one of the co host not only attacks Lauer for his peace but also question what does Ronan Farrow have on the New York times why did they why that piece against them so he floated this absurd conspiracy that the times in Ben Smith went after Farrow to stop him from doing something which is precisely what Farrow claims NBC I mean it just becomes this madness so you know it reminds me of Larry jury member if this was in vogue for a while in the nineteen seventies new journalism you know people like Tom Wolfe and people were brought from your magazine where they would they would construct or is almost as though they were writing a novel with sort of novelistic details and then if you look back on those for you so you know they kind of fudge things facts that did not fit with the narrative they're they're you know there were heroes and the villains they would arrange or leave out all together see Ben Smith's piece accuses roaming feral doing something like that where do you study let's also go back could you be present in Tomball but some of the real kind of classic you know story prepares for the new journalism the way those stories were constructed you'd be hard pressed in certain instances not to know that when he was quoting someone in the car late at night one night he wasn't there you know like what was done have kind of like I would say fabricated but was created for a different kind of purpose nothing wrong apparel look suggests new journalism this is not some tapestry of impression that he's writing this is a book according to be very hard journalism about a subject that the rest of the journalism world was unable to get in many ways he was right and he got it and you deserve the credit but in many other ways that Lauer point Dennis Smith points out he didn't cross the tease and dot the I's he didn't call people to verify whether or not what Brooke noble said to a friend was drilled he didn't call people to find out what I'm millions of people knew about the affair he didn't talk to the producer who she said she ran to after an alleged attack by Matt Lauer he didn't do all that you have to have Lauer then go do it on his own you know that's a bad thing that's equally bad journalism right story subjects should not be writing about what someone did or didn't do journalistically right since missing did I need no axe to grind and he was a fair arbiter and he raised a lot of questions that I think your spirit it doesn't mean hobby once you getting out of jail and doesn't mean that Matt Lauer was known bacterial coldly and a guy who you abused his power but it does next time someone does this he should be what does this damage Ronan Farrow at all and I see the New Yorker and his publishers are standing by his reporting I think it's not going to cause any kind of retro active damage I do think it's going to make people like David Remnick who that are at the new Yorker maybe be a little bit more careful about the broader suggestions in the stories against it NBC kill his mind the story yes did they kill it because of Harvey Weinstein putting pressure on him because of some kind of friendship no I think they killed it because you tell me one big story NBC news or any television news network by from sixty minutes producers they don't do that they were not in the business of taking down Hollywood moguls accusing them of rape that's not what they do they let right now in Fargo do some reporting he didn't come up with the good sufficiently and they cut him loose that's what happened this is not some broad conspiracy involving you know higher ups at NBC or NBC news and I think those kinds of accusations that he seems to be prone to may almost impossible to corroborate I think in the future it may be range and hello Larry Hackett ABC entertainment contributor former publisher editor of people magazine I got I got promoted if you want land you can make whatever so far god of people magazine Hey how about the big I just having a really big entertainment story the TV show that Michael Riedel starred on a smash is being made into a Broadway show it doesn't look like rados going to get a part I mean what what all these early it's early to say that one is really say that you know there may be a scene unless you know where I was a stool and a spotlight and Michael Walters I was guitar he plays Fogelberg for the a great hi Michael it's it's nineteen seventy nine and I'm thinking of like tomorrow's entrance dams and cut off jeans include the shells and you're listening to the informer coming something worked out with Julie well no I didn't I didn't she was a little older I mean I think she thought I was cute but you know it now it didn't it really didn't and you know where that Michael is in it why didn't load or thought you were cute that's pretty much it yeah that's a bad idea where those kind of clothes I always do I wear a lot of "And and Michael Riedel are on the seventy this is the time a lot of the young people would be preparing to accept their diplomas after having worked hard for years in college and thinking about going out in the world making their way in the world looking for jobs and unfortunately all graduations have been canceled so we'll see a lot of colleges having these virtual graduations but it seems to me just missing out when I'm a huge huge important part of your life I mean I remember my graduation from Columbia vividly I'm sure you remember years from search all absolutely yeah Walter Cronkite spoke at my graduation Serkis Harmon woke the great novelist Pauline so we send out that Alice Stockton Rossini are crackerjack reporter to talk to some of these college grads and how they feel about getting their diplomas virtually good morning Alice Alice morning good morning good morning it grabs you may send time grad zu may shed is the up all night thinking that Alice I get I really good medical quite sometimes being asked they contribute your video presentation that will be replayed on their own with very speakers and reading off names we wanted we could send them like a ten second video or a picture of us and we have like a cap and gown which we don't people order caps and tassels for free which is kind of silly in hindsight and wear them out this random virtual celebration they had me create a slide for myself upload a picture and put a senior quote it was professional thoughts consoles and that's what I put okay don't you think that these graduates are excited about our virtual celebration well check it out we've been on sale now for a few months awhile to kind of zoomed out a little bit of that ancient feel real that we were done that we're graduating it's like did I really graduate it doesn't feel like a milestone needing to miss what are supposed to be the best month and a half of college because of this and then having no graduation no nothing no way to say goodbye to your friends that you've made over the past four years it's just frustrating we got some better people out there Alice well you can you most of them aren't even gonna bother watching big think maybe their parents might but if they're you know pretty pretty depressed and also the way they had to leave it was March they were away for spring break and they couldn't come back they can clean up the room a lot of ground to going back to school now and getting their staff NYU was being hollered from the schools are trying to plan a real graduation at a later date but at this point August isn't looking great and it was much later than that you know graduate worried it'll be on a week day they won't be around they will be able to get a work their families will be able to go out just like the whole wedding thing that we talked about last week so here's how they're celebrating their cars and graduate of value that university has a roommate who went to GW we see university graduate from Baghdad ga ga you're dead okay era she had her down and capture the same colors from last year and so my friends and I went out yesterday and took some pictures of the cap and gown and that made it feel really real Ali marketing graduate of Skidmore will walk my sister just graduated in the fall from her master's program and I she brought her cap and gown and we'll do a miniature walk up just me and my sister in our backyard well your graduation day ago little home and nobody we enjoyed of already graduates the hall is getting bills from her dad he did just actually give me a new hand me down car so I guess that's the way I I can celebrate a so now these guys have been raised and then made the number eight eight J. O. B. tragedy Eric here summed up his future all right on our enjoyment here we go I have no idea if I'm being honest hopefully it'll consist of me getting an internship or a full time job and working from home but if not it's going to be a lot of me sitting here trying to find jobs like a lot of Xbox and helping my parents are on the house number a cat was seriously it's got to be extra extra tough I mean I remember trying to get a job at a Syracuse in broadcasting and it wasn't easy in the best of times that and it's got to be tough for these kids looking for jobs now well a lot of these kids had internships like Julie had an internship in PR I talked to a Kitty had an engineering internship wanted to graduate but you heard here alley she was a student teacher she never got to do student teaching she never got to be in a classroom because this semester with Campbell and now she can't get you never been in a classroom he's got a certificate to teach but she didn't get that extra experience and you know internships that's the way you get a job I guess everybody wants to know where to do your internship how you make out with the internship so these guys are really the job market rate a higher you online that's the other thing are these are they going to they're going to do their interviews online they're going to spend on their resumes and then I'm going to hire you to work from home are you going to have a face to face meeting in a mask I mean I really do I feel for these guys I really really do know it's a shame that backed up for yeah exactly could be a whole lost generation out there I mean some of these kids might not might not find jobs for years not be that depressed eight and No home I need their home yeah I got they can't even have the first department member how exciting it was when you graduate from college and you got your first apartment got the job and then you got a little bit of money and you have your first apartment no longer living in a dorm room dorm room your first I would have thought that pound the pavement would sound that exciting you know they have to do that exactly that's right yeah the pressing all right where you are there's an NYU film student so she's doing all of these classes that and why you know and of course there in the studio for their senior year she's doing like all of her acting deadlines Newman the director saying to her okay so just look into your zoom camera out like it the camera in the studio and that's how she's making a real to send out eight men on I mean the film students you know careers like that are really bad a difficult process all right Alice Dr Alice Stockton Rossini W. "And and Michael Riedel are on the seventy the lead one of my earliest memories my life is as a little kid in the summer we grew up near Conesus lake in upstate New York and my parents would put us in our pajamas my sister myself and then they would drive to the Conesus lake drive in movie theater and I room for whatever reason I remember a double bill of Herbie the love bug and Sleeping Beauty must've been a Disney double bill and that's what we did that for often in the summers back in the late sixties early seventies drive in movies a kinda disappeared but PJ Windle you know the DJ company and he's becoming very entrepreneurial he actually is going to bring back the drive in movie he can do a pop up drive in movie in your town sounds like a great idea to welcome to the program PJ hi Michael thanks for having me do you have a meal actually so how's it going I mean is there a demand for the pop up drive ins out there it is blowing my mind how excited and and how in through the aspic mayors are in councilmen and parks and rec the phone hasn't stopped ringing from last week's straight while while the rhetoric so which sounds do you think you'll be able to do this in I will be announcing all of the different towns that'll be taking part in it cut through the next couple of weeks but I can announce that Jackson New Jersey is going to be kind of the launch location because of the working very closely with the mayor there will be in Middletown New Jersey will be in little egg harbor or south river Tom's river wall township I mean there's so many of them that want to get involved in them they're very close to booking but they're just waiting for governor Murphy to check the restriction of eight o'clock curfew office and leading the nonessential businesses get back to what we do best which is serving our community right so how you can do this are you gonna get cooperation from the movie studios that will allow you to play their play their movies yes so there's two different companies that you work with to do outside movies for festivals or drive in movie theaters and we're working with those companies to obtain right the movies for either a day or a week or a month whatever we need but we're gonna have a large selection of movies from classic movies to kids movies and then we will have to be better out yeah as recent as two thousand nineteen so we'll have a nice selection for people to choose from for their target so I guess I we're I'm with PJ windows bring in the back drive in movies to New Jersey and I I saw your planned so at five o'clock you want to have a kids movie at eight o'clock you want to have well I you can't show adult films outdoors and bank drive why not a little bit a little bit more adults than the movies hi the green door what I'm trying to make people uncomfortable we want them to enjoy P. G. thirteen sometimes R. rated movies but it's going to be the class things that you remember like jaws and Jurassic Park and you know terminator really fun things that people will flock for but I think the whole idea of the whole concept is just getting back out this way yeah and being able to do it with your family not having to be so huddled up like you would be in a in a cinema inside and just getting back to some semblance of normalcy increments are came in again so Peter I remember as a kid going to the drive and they had that box she kind of hook up to the side of your car window there and that's how I got the sound has a sound I was a sound system work here so we do it in a multi prong level we we can do audio ambient with DJ speakers so the people that want to open the windows and just get some fresh air can and that way but then we'll do FM transmitter directly to your car now you can't run your car because Idoling laws everywhere say that you can't run your car so we we recommend that you turn to the battery I just turn the key forward and listen through your speakers that way if you want to or you can bring an S. M. hand held radio and put headphones on going the extra mile to develop Bluetooth technology so we can do Bluetooth speakers there's really just going to be such a myriad of ways we can lessen that everybody will find their way that works for them sounds like a great idea PJ window he's bringing the the drive in movie theater back pop up drive in movie theaters around New Jersey good luck with the project and will check in with you the general but to see how you're doing yes thanks so much I really appreciate okay take Kerr PJ when they'll bring in the drive in movie theater back time for Cher set up by the MTA governor Cuomo says the cost of human life is priceless and he says New York cannot open too quickly because it will put people's lives at risk the faster re we re open the there note they will re open whether you like it or not he says there's not a magic wand that you can wave to make the outbreak Galway following new Jersey's launch an investigation into nursing homes the state governor Murphy says about half of the state eight thousand deaths are linked to long term care facility just as tragically we've seen some of the industry be slow to respond and adapt to says it's time to reopen the country admits to ABC that it could lead to more deaths but he says so to get our country back also says people are losing their lives to suicides and overdoses and he also in his interview with ABC news addressed his own you know when the tone this down and tried to crazy land that I'll tone that never quits no no about how he he seems to kind of be dismissive of the dangers and all our stuff he says I'm a cheerleader for the country yeah I just want to be a cheerleader I don't want to be doom and gloom we got a guy coming from Albany absolutely you know facts Opera singer Brian Stokes Mitchell explains why he had to stop singing
"So so we we we had had had had to to to to replicate replicate replicate replicate every every every every yesterday yesterday yesterday yesterday with with with with Tony Tony Tony Tony Award Award Award Award winner winner winner winner Brian Brian Brian Brian Stokes Stokes Stokes Stokes Mitchell Mitchell Mitchell Mitchell every every every every night night at at seven seven he he would would sing sing the the impossible impossible dream dream out his window and because a big traffic jam on the Upper West Side and we had a chance to talk with Brian Stokes Mitchell about it yesterday but well interesting enough I can't stop singing yesterday records and it's interesting as I got older also rainy night yesterday one of the things I've been concerned about the crowds have been getting rather large outside and the corner where they hang out is on Broadway show and I've been a little concerned looking down because I see sometimes people aren't paying attention at the crossing the street sometimes the people that are driving the cars are looking up at the window or not paying attention is there as the driving down the road either so I actually talk to the NYPD about it yesterday and and ask them you know what they thought as well and they were getting concerned as well and I said what do you think we should do here they said the best thing to do is to stop singing and I said okay because you're the reason I'm doing it is to honor people like the NYPD and the fire department and EMS workers in the health care works an average not to make their lives more difficult so we both decided together that is best is to stop singing and just leave it as it was Brian you a battle the corona virus can you give us your experience with it what how when did it come on and how how tough was it for you my wife and I were doing love life at city center encores we rehearsing for that show and during the rehearsals I noticed I had a low grade sinus infection and a low grade fever which is not uncommon this time of year and but one particular night it got really really bad it hit me really really hard I ended up having a of astronomically high fever I had a heating pad that I brought into bed with me because I could not get warm enough but I was still chilled with this fever I had the worst headache of my life I had the worst body aches of my life my my doctor is it a doctorate with the actors fun actually and he was just so great he kind of led me by hand telephonically now for more than three weeks are almost a month now I've been cleared of any any illicit also went into my lungs which is the other scary part but not terribly show and not enough but let me in the hospital which is also really great that's terrific world with Brian Stokes Mitchell Broadway great Tony Award winner now you mention the actors fund you the chairman of the actors fund is at a marvelous charity which I've contributed to helping actors and others in in the business who are on hard times and need help now is there a particular stress on the actors fund now during this pandemic but yesterday there actually is I think going on a lot of charities like ours normally it in a year we would give away about a two million dollars of emergency assistance to probably about two thousand people a year at this point as of March of the twenty fourth it was we've given away seven and a half million dollars to about sixty five hundred people and we're anticipating probably by June or July it's going to be up to you near twenty million dollars so people what's been amazing is the creative community the off Broadway Broadway I've been coming up with the most incredible ideas I had and so many of them are are using these ideas to make money for the actors Jason Holland was musical musical director director for for beautiful beautiful came came up up with with this this fantastic fantastic arrangement arrangement of of you've you've got got a a friend friend and and sent sent it it out out to to all all of of the the people people in in all all of of the the cast cast your your beautiful beautiful but but we're we're still still stuck stuck many many of of them them on on the the road road and and and and everybody everybody said said this this individual individual case case back back in in may may they they set set this this up up the the added added together together and and it's it's just just absolutely absolutely amazing amazing I was just overwhelmed when I first heard the store for donations for the actors fund so people can can do that well here's your here's your chance Michael you gotta you gotta put the pressure on them all right well Brian we hate to put you on the spot but since you can't sing out your window and I agree with you we don't want to cause any problems on the Upper West Side but we have a lot of people who are inside with the radio side I'm sure they wouldn't mind a little bit of Brian Stokes Mitchell and the impossible dream yeah I mean I'm happy to do it I'll sing a little bit of the first first I think because one of the things I love about this on one of the reasons I was singing it was the song is not actually called the impossible dream is actually called the quest and it's not a song about trying to do the impossible it's a song about trying period and the reason I saying this is because that's what we're all doing right now but particularly to healthcare workers EMS workers first responders all those people listen to these lyrics and think about all of those people right now to dream the impossible dream are you used to be beatable told to bear with unbearable so who the run where the Blu ray you better not cold two five eight three on the right people wrong hello your man chased from a former teacher quality when your arms are too we read don't reach the unreachable stronger this is my quarters to follow that story no matter how old you are no matter how hard to fight for the right without question the apologies to be willing to March into her look for her open recall I mean what are doing better lyrics right so well my white around I had my lighter going in my house right Ryan thanks so much and graduate lands on all your success and all that you're doing and thanks for staying with us and joining us on the program thank you Michael and will continue "R. now lane Berman and Michael Riedel Michael from the animal kingdom and we had that story from the Bronx zoo where a line and some of the lines got the corona virus and we have that story the last week couple of cats about the corona virus and now they have ventilators for pets well known and then people raise the question what how do you find out I mean if if people can't get test why they test than cats that's a whole other issue because and now here's a first a dog in North Carolina has tested positive for coronavirus well that's not good but we still don't know if can I pet pass it on to bring down well that we we've asked that we in fact we have Dr Gregory Poland coming up from the male clinic after the news at eight o'clock we can bring that up again but they he has told us there is no known cases of people contracting coronavirus from their pets now here is the owner of this dog in a North Carolina heather McLean is a pediatrician yeah a little bit of a mild cough yes that's how they detected it the dog had a mild cough now here's a doctor in her area understand those trying transmission dynamics in particular the household particularly among people and helps us guide and focus where our intervention should take place going to translate that I sometimes the subtitles what the hell I don't know I still don't get it so right that's the pets getting it from their owners some people can pass and animals but animals can't pass it back to people well that's what they're surmising now it's very insurance that the CDC came out with a with a statement yesterday that says the that that pet owners have to follow the same social distancing with their pets and they say the C. does the CDC quote treat pets as you would other human family members not like pets interact with people or animals right outside the house hold while that's not gonna happen that's not practical when I see people walking dogs all the time everyone Cepeda nice fun cute little dog well I tell you what the CDC and this is their quote of a person inside the household become sick isolate that person from everyone.

Public opinion shifting in support of impeachment inquiry
"Steve the impeachment bandwagon seems to be a bandwagon seems to be rolling along it do you think the house will impeach this president. probably yes but I'm not sure that because let's be very clear what they've done they started an impeachment inquiry the the the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi is very aware. of the political risks here and very leery of the political risks which are considerable in my view there's a new CBS poll out this morning it's a fifty five percent of Americans favor starting an inquiry but only forty two percent at this point favor impeaching the president that tells me it would be extremely divisive. impeachment at its core as a concept is very radical you have to overturn the results of the previous election abscess why it's never happened in our entire history Richard Nixon probably would have been impeached if he stayed in office but apart from that one example yeah and and and it's much more legitimate much more plausible much more frequent to deny a president the second term at the ballot box you happen to George Bush happen to Jimmy Carter happened Gerald Ford so. I think the democratic leadership is very aware are they going to move slowly here and but one of the reasons why they started the impeachment inquiry yes the the the Ukrainian example seems to be easier to understand easier to explain to the public but I think the real reason as defense of extremely frustrated with good reason by the stonewalling tactics at that by this White House they won't produce documents they won't testify they won't answer questions Democrats strategy is if you put impeachment in front of this inquiry it strengthens your hand to give you a lot more of a serious purpose including with federal judges who in the end they're gonna make a lot of the decisions about whether the produce these documents and I think that's at least they're short to mid term strategy is to use the impeachment inquiry to a nurse evidence that they can then use politically against the president in the campaign next year but Steve if she brings us to the brink of impeachment and then pulls back I mean the the hardcore left in the party is going to be furious with her will they not. yeah I mean that's a real risk and let's remember that the one of the reason one of the many many races Hillary Clinton lost in two thousand and sixteen was the disillusionment of the of the Sanders wing of the party right twenty percent to Bernie Sanders voters did not vote for Hillary Clinton according to a very good academic study they voted for trump they didn't they voted for third parties like the Green Party why they didn't vote at all and if you follow that pattern and dissolution the hardcore left it's gonna make it a lot harder to be Donald Trump the ballot box so she has a lot of choices most of which are. filled with a lot of risk. Steve the democratic talking points here on this impeachment process is trump asks the head of Ukraine do me a favor investigate by that's the simple approach to they want to take how do you see the trump White House countering that I got a hint of it this morning I saw Bernie Kerik on fox he is now calling the whistle blower of Colbert operator who is trying to state part of a coup attempt on this presents a how do you see the trunk White House fighting back here. well I think that that's definitely part of the argument you know trump himself is said I need to confront my will the whistle blower he's he's raised that that that whistle blowers a spy yes said that with the you know he keeps throwing the word treason around so I think they're going to try as they did with Robert Muller to totally discredit the investigation to you know to try to discredit Mahler it's a closet Democrat and and and and a partisan and they're gonna try to do exactly the same thing this is a this is a very clear pattern of trumped trying to discredit of anybody who is an independent fact finder he's done that with the media he's done it with federal judges he's done it with weather forecasters he's right I mean this is a very very clear pattern of anybody who is an independent fact finder trying to deny their legitimacy plus I think by using words like cool and deep state and conspiracy this is all designed to stir up his base his strategy is very clear he's not reaching beyond space if you look at the at the CBS poll thirty six percent of Americans say under no circumstances should trump be impeached that is almost precisely what his bases I've studied it very carefully his face is about thirty seven percent. it doesn't take a mathematical genius to figure out the it's hard to win an election with thirty seven percent of the vote so he's got to get every single one of those votes he's got to maximize the intensity of the turn out that all this talk about conspiracies and deep stated it is so much I at the heart of trump's appeal which is see I told you they're all out to get me they're all out to get you they're all out to get us all right ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts good to have you back with the Steve

And I am somewhat conflicted about this. I am. Yeah. Progressive here. Go ahead. Know, I know this is a serious moment here. So the New York police department as added a new fleet of fourteen drones department set on Tuesday that the potential uses for the drones include search and rescue hard to reach crime scenes hostage situations and hazardous material incidents. Now, I'm all for you know, the police having all of the technology at their disposal to help fight crime. And to keep us safe. But I do tend to feel uneasy as does the New York Civil Liberties Union, I think this plenty of stuff looking at us out there already. There are cameras all over the place. You walk down the block you're going to be filmed by something. Now, do we need drones. Flying overhead that can spy on us too. I just feel we're living in a. Oversaturated surveillance society, and that that nerves meals, but I would have never thought that you would be siding with the New York, Sicily's, you know, I'm a big civil liberties. Yeah person. I I see I'm in favor of anything. See I got nothing to hide. So from my standpoint, whatever they want to do is fine with me. But it's the principle of the thing. Do you really want your every movement tract? I all they said they're going to be used in a specific case. How do we believe that? How do we know? Yeah. You know, they're just flying overhead checking out anybody doing anything. I don't know it it unnerves me a little bit. I do think that we've gotten carried away with our what do they call that closed circuit television cameras. Glad we have all that we get more creeps and catch more people. And I think it prevents more crime because everything's on camera. I don't know either. I don't I I don't like the feeling that big brother is looking over my shoulder. It's going to enhance investigations recovery of surveillance video record police actions. I guess also protect themselves. Right. I guess it's also, you know, well, these interest there they've if there's some kind of demonstration going on they can prove from the drone footage at the police acted properly. The New York Civil Liberties Union says the drone policy doesn't do enough to balance public privacy concerns. That's where I am with legitimate law enforcement needs. All right. I don't know. It's an interesting debate to have in a society. That's we're all on candid camera every minute of the day. How about the timing this week? I the MTA says they're going to there's too many fare beaters. We're gonna cut down the air conditioning in the summer and on the subway down the heat in the winter, and we're gonna not clean the cars twice. Not easily cleaned subway cars at both ends of the line. The only pick one. So the subway cars are going to be stink less comfortable. They'll be dirty. Dear around so be fatter. So that story comes out the very next day. Andy Byford his hat in hand saying, oh, I need forty billion dollars for the subways. I mean, really. You know, the optics of that. So he's before the city council yesterday, and he wants forty billion primarily because of, you know, the new signal stuff you don't need to do so much work on the 'cause you don't need to put so much equipment in the tunnel. And therefore, it's quicker cheaper unless intrusive to install the equipment. Also live won't is a room somewhere. Doesn't sound like he's at my fair. Lady of the MTA says he has a nice, well, he say he said, if I get the forty billion would it be lovely say that at the end of his forty billion pounds. I'm sorry dollars. Oh, boy, they want this. Modern tech called communicate communications based train control. Oh, this is great. The plan is called fast forward. Subways fast, forward all breath. I went down to take the subway yesterday. We had to go to town interview. Aaron Sorkin I was on the platform. This is noon. The middle of the day. I was on the platform for fifteen minutes waiting for the train to come new interview. Aaron Sorkin name. He's a great terrific guy. A fun and who would have known Syracuse sky. My goodness. They'll anybody go their circus. Well, he's he's adapted. The Harper Lee novel to kill a Mockingbird for the stage, and it opens on Broadway at the Shubert theatre next week. And I found out doing little reporting yesterday. How many tickets at sold already Lynn Scott sixteen million dollars advance sales for tequila Mockingbird? Now, you would mention yesterday were going to bring along a letter that he wrote to you. Did you do that? I couldn't find it in my files years about. Yeah. I did he a laugh about it. It's almost two years ago when I was just starting out. I was a critic for a small magazine and Aaron had a play on Broadway called a few good men. And I panted I said this pales in comparison. Oh, you're stuck. Pales in. Stuff sucks. I said this pales in comparison to the great Herman walks, the Caine mutiny, you know, that's the best play. And I got this note from a young Aaron Sorkin Saint how devastated he was to read my review, and well, you see how my critical chops impeded that career. So what was his reaction when you're reminded them of the story. He laughed. He said, you know, it was painful because I was in the only critic Japan the place with my I play on Broadway, and I was excited, and and it didn't it flopped on did he turned into a movie, and the movie was absolutely can't handle the truth code red, great movie as well Muller report comes out, Len. And there's nothing there and Russian collusion. I'm gonna play. You can't handle the truth. Yeah. Very good. I don't think you enjoy. We're gonna be able to speaking of that Michael Flynn is singing like a canary, but just how damaging is his testimony going to be we'll sort that out. Now. When we come back. The best new musical of the season has arrived on Broadway. The New York Times declares the prom. Makes you believe in musical comedy. Again. It's the only Broadway musical awarded a New York Times Critic's pick this season and York magazine, raves the promise at damn good. Time genuine joy rolls off the stage in this smart, big-hearted, new musical. I saw the prom a couple of weeks ago. I had a great time at it, folks. It's a terrific Broadway show. The Wall Street Journal says I can't remember the last time, I laughed so hard and variety says the problem is musical comedy heaven. Visit the problem musical dot com to get your tickets today. "Michael Riedel in the morning on seven ten. All right, folks. It is election eve get out to vote is not here. He voted absentee ballot for every democrat. I'm sure joining me this morning is our good friend governor, David Paterson. Good morning to you governor. Good morning, Michael. And I'm off to a flying start. I've had trouble remembering the name of the co host here in the morning sometime. You mean Len was that his name? This is exactly how I feel when lend isn't here. He's just outta sight outta mind lily. I don't know. Michael Riedel and David Paterson in the morning. All right. Our big three headlines it is election day. Tomorrow folks, can the Republicans stave off that Blue Wave that everyone thinks gonna crash right into the house of representatives Ken Molinaro pull off an upset joke here in the state, actually, the polls governor are tightening up between Molinaro and governor Cuomo thirteen percent he's behind but used to behind like eighty seven percent any chance that Molinaro can pull an upset and we say by by governor Andrew Cuomo. No, okay. That's not gonna happen. It's interesting. When when Indra coma was attorney general he ran for governor in two thousand ten they said, the polls tightening up about a week before the the election. I can't even remember his opponent's name Carl of this guy was insane. If a businessman from upscale palladino, Carl Dino. When when I was governor he wants called up a talk show. I was one to yell about the fact that he hadn't gotten paid by the Empire State Development Corporation, any puts us on the air. And I said, well, the reason I didn't pay you is that the employees that you said worked for you. There were no such people. Anyway. But no, I don't think governor Cuomo's in any trouble. Hey, well, we'll discuss further with governor Paterson rounding out the big three celebrities behaving badly. Now. Joe did you see old Alec Baldwin over the weekend? So I know Alec Baldwin a little bit from covering Broadway. All these years and showbiz the guy is basically a dry drunk. He used to be a big alcoholic. He's now totally sober. But that anger that rage that the alcohol use really wants to drink does still there. So he the basic story is folks a relative of his is holding a parking spot for him. Somebody else pulls up to the spot. What is Alec Baldwin? Do. He gets out starts bashing the guy who pulled into his parking spot, this is celebrity privilege at its best. He was brought down to the police precinct in my neighborhood in Greenwich Village. He was there wandering around and he came out and you look at the pictures of him. He looks like he looks like he's hung over even though I gotta say he hasn't had a drink in many many years, but that rage that anger is. So this is like a. A pet peeve. Michael. This is what I feel bad news reporting. So Baldwin sends out these tweets, I didn't hit anybody. This is grossly. Mischaracterization of what happened and the guy goes to the hospital. They never say whether the hospital confirmed, but he got punched in the jaw and not just don't say one way or the other. Well, the question though, is and Joe maybe you can answer this as a newsman hospitals are they allowed to give out. Not anymore. And so they can't say one way or the other guy was brought in a hippo hippo rules. Yeah. So the hospital camp come out and confirm or deny any about the guy says hostile can't say, but but the person who was assaulted could say that. Well, this is he's he I'm sure he's hired a lawyer. And the lawyer soon will be saying that he was beaten six ways to Sunday. He can't see anymore. Broke it caused all sorts of problems in his marriage, and he wants us to Alec Baldwin for ten million dollars. That's what I think is going to happen. And also, we got all how about old p Davidson there on Saturday Night Live celebs behaving badly making fun of the war veteran with his. Iowa was terrible. That was really an unfunny to we have. I think we may have a cut of that. We have cut old Pete Davidson yakking away. Let me see if I can find it for you. Well, if we can't in the meantime. This guy is kinda cool. Dan crenshaw?.

"Michael Riedel in the morning tomorrow from six 'til ten on seven ten w o r. Well, if you're just joining us, it appears that another pipe bomb has been found this morning in the Tribeca offices of Robert deniro, who we know is a fierce Trump opponent the bomb squad. Is there? I saw the police presence has I was riding my bike to work this morning. The bomb is now on its way. I guess up to the Bronx is that have their bomb disposal facility know, exactly whether this show is kind of it's Rodman's neck. It's kind of a kind of a remote area where they always take these things they hope so. I would hope they would stop the traffic on the GW bridge. A co op city. I guess they don't want to be delayed in traffic. You don't want to be sitting there with with? I'm john. New Jersey side folks that leads off our big three this morning. I guess this is what the eighth bomb found seven yesterday. He got CNN Maxine Waters Luton's the Obamas to sentimental waters. So there may be one floating around that was sent the Biden they're looking at that one because it was missing dress that it was sent they all had to return address of Debbie Wasserman Schultz misspelled Schultz. Right. And so they think there was one cent abidance floating out there that's on its way too short. So they're looking for that one was not one cent to governor Cuomo who seem too hopeful that he was gonna get one yesterday at the news conference when he announced dramatically that reported that a bomb has been sent to his office. Hey device has been sent to my office in Manhattan. Exactly. All right. Also in the big three. Well, Megan Kelly is trying to apologize madly for her comments defending black-faced the other day, but that may not be enough to save her job sports today that she's going to be out of her morning show slot on NBC. It's probably not just well the black face comments were inexcusable. But that's a good reason to get rid of her because her ratings are terrible to as the words NBC has not been happy with her and rounding out the big three you lost money yesterday. I'm sorry to say the Dow was down six hundred and four points wiped out all the gains for the year, and the tech stocks really took a tumble of what are they showing the markets are going to be little up there. Little aren't they Joe little little bit up this morning. I think yeah. I got the Dow futures up one hundred seventy four NASDAQ up ninety seven is about a one percent pick up at the beginning. Assuming these numbers hold best thing to do is don't panic little turbulence in the market just steady as she goes don't sell now that could be the problem yesterday was was wild. Because. Opened up down by a bunch. Then came all the way it was. It was it was only down like sixty or seventy points at one point. And boom the bottom fell out the dropped his a six hundred down. But yeah, they're they're claiming the tariffs. They're claiming the interest rates go. Sometimes they just don't know. I mean, that's that's the shoes. Using right. All right. Some people received those bombs were speaking out yesterday, including Hillary Clinton. Yeah. Shoes. She and her husband were targeted in Westchester. We are fine. Thanks to the men and women of the secret service.

"Berman and Michael Riedel in the morning on seven ten are. Good morning, everybody. We've got some breaking news for you CNN and FOX are confirming that Republican Senator flake will indeed vote to confirm Brett Cavanaugh to the supreme court. So if they can keep a Collins or a cul smoke Murkowski, well, he goes through doesn't mean he's going to vote on the floor. But this is going to vote it out of committee. Yeah. But they're saying vote he's going to vote for confirmation. But that's the get it out of this committee. So so the committee it's going to be a done deal. We'll get the eleven votes they need. It's going to go to the full Senate. Right. And we'll see how he votes there. But as far as the the full Senate, they're going to take up procedural matters tomorrow. Apparently from what we've learned from ABC news, the real serious vote. Whether he's going to be a supreme court judge come up Tuesday. I would imagine flake vivo. He votes to confirm today is going to vote to confirm on Tuesday. I would think I would think, but he could make the argument that listen we wanted to get out of committee. We wanted to let the whole Senate, and he's going to take some time to think about it. But yeah, I would tend to believe you're right. Oh, we got a winner. We do. Indeed for the David Wright tickets for tomorrow night. Adrian for Brooklyn was so excited. Adrian, and she's the same age as Tom Seaver number forty one that resolutions Adrian go into the David Wright game. All right. And now, let's check in with the voice of the Mets, the legendary Howie rose. Good morning, Howie, Michael lane. How are you? Excellent. Excellent. So it's going to be I don't know kind of bittersweet tomorrow night for you. Isn't it watching David Wright play that last game with his team? Yeah. There's going to be quite a bit of melancholy. I think hanging over city field. But you know, I like to think of it. And I think we talked about this last week as more a celebration of David's career and David is. Then the reality that his career is coming to an end. Do you think there'll be anything? Well, I'm sure they have something special planned are there. Other teammates coming back will they have videos. I mean, can you give us a hint of what they're gonna do tomorrow night? I have heard whispers that certain people might be returning to the ballpark to say. Hi to David. I can't name them. I can't say that I know with any specificity who else might be showing up. But what I do know is that if you're at the game tomorrow night, and we don't expect David's not gonna play nine innings. But you know, if he comes out after three or four don't get up and figure, okay, I've seen everything I need to see him going home because I'm sure there are going to be other things that transpired throughout the day that are going to pay tribute to. David. The people are going to want to stick around for how we in your memory, some of the greatest moments that you witnessed David pilaf. Well, you know, it's funny. I think back to three mouldings on the field, but one of them as it pertained to me in the booth and the one I just referred to was in Philadelphia a few years ago in two thousand fifteen he'd been hurt and dealing with a spinal stenosis for the first time, and he hadn't played in at least three or maybe even closer to four months by the time. He came back and made his first start against the Phillies. Now, we come from a long road trip the night before and when we got to the hotel remember now David's all pumped up because he's going to be playing the next day. We get to the hotel and who's standing in the lobby. I kid you not in full uniform with big boxes a cookies to hand out to all of his arriving. Teammates. Then David Wright that's helped pumped up. He was the come back and play the game. Now that next night in Philadelphia. His first time up is very first time up in months, he hits a home run. And I mean, he hit that ball about his foreigners. I've seen ever hit a baseball into the upper deck in left field in Philadelphia. That's only two decks, but it was a long home run. And I told David after the game, and I still kinda get shivers down my spine thinking about it that it was one of the very few times in my career where I could actually feel the goosebumps as I was making the call it meant that much. And I'll always remember that. Yeah. There were some other big hits, of course, including the home run. He hit in the World Series which had to be fantastic. But just with that moment had to mean to him coming back for the first time after that long long injury and hitting a home run. I'll never forget that. Now. I'll never forget how excited I was to make that call if this is the home run or not, but it is a long home run by David Wright with your call the one one fastball..

"This is Berman and Michael Riedel in the morning on seven ten w. Welcome back is so much to discuss that I guess, Michael. And all non after all the hours it just comes down to these two little lines with what degree of certainty. Do you believe breath Cavanaugh assaulted you? One hundred percent swear under oath before the Senate and the nation before my family, and God, I am innocent of this charge up. Choose your team. I know which team you're on Michael Riedel. I know which team you're online Berman. So I guess we're even hey, you know, we did learn a lot from Trish turned with ABC news. Correspondent has been covering. Yes. He's hearings. So at nine thirty. Yes. The committee is going to vote, but Trish says if it doesn't come out as a positive vote, let's say Jeff flake, either flakes or or passes. They'll vote a second time. Right. And she has it that at that point. It'll flake will say, okay, I'll go along with it will go to the main floor. So flake may make a statement initially. So there'd be a second vote is something we learned. Right. And then what we learned tomorrow because it's going to the full Senate tomorrow. That's just procedural right trysts says the real big vote will be Tuesday. Right. Well, tomorrow, they're going to have to give all the speech, more speeches. You're going to have to sit through if you wanna watch them going on and on with those Democrats her ranking cabinet. It's going to be really ugly. Well, might be interesting. Our speak three stories this morning. Of course. That's what it starts with yesterday's dramatic gripping testimony. Dr Ford Brad Kavanagh both a hundred percent sure of their individual stories now committee will vote the small. Morning, and and many people including Alan Dershowitz are calling for. Hey, let's take a breath and investigate further. In fact, your friend, Michael ebanon just tweeted, he's representing the third woman who came forward. He says my client must be heard. We must take time investigate and let everybody testifies it's time to vote and end this circus, and this nonsense also the big three, well how about that two hundred and forty five million dollar lottery winner stepping forward on Staten Island. Apparently the ticket was just on his table. Didn't even look at it for a week. And eventually said all there wasn't a winner. Maybe I'll look at buy tickets dome next door. But you know, it's two hundred forty five million. But he he took quick, you know, instant or what do you call it cash out lump sum? Yeah, he's only getting ninety nine million. He should've just thrown the ticket away. Out the big three the Mets, captain David Wright saying goodbye tomorrow night. We've got your free Mets tickets. We got two more sets a tickets to give away. We have them at eight thirty this morning and nine thirty this morning. But you know, the real highlight of the Senate hearing what they discuss stuff like this. I don't know if it's booked or booth how do you pronounce that? Refers to flatulence we were sixteen. Okay. And so when your friend Mark judge said the same put the same thing in his yearbook page back to you at the same. Meaning it was flatulence. I don't know what he did. But that's my recollection. We wanna talk about flatulence age sixteen on a yearbook page. I'm game. What an idiot that democrat was questioning on flatulence. Was interesting, by the way, there was a bunch of stuff in the yearbook and the definitions that Cavanaugh gave seemed to be very different from what the general vernacular is. I don't want to get into the specifics. 'cause a lot of it's really gross. Yes, it is. But apparently, this boof ING or whatever it is has nothing to do with flatulence. He's the only one who said it did the devil's. Triangle was not a drinking game as he described it. And there was a third one where they kept referring to this young lady's name, and he kinda ducked on that story. So he was listen. This is yearbook. Stuff prevent I'm not I'm not stating the case that this should prevent him should prevent them from being a supreme court judge. But he he was not really truthful in that little area say he clearly was embarrassed by the yearbook, but you have to remember land. I mean, I'm about the same age as he was this was the era of movies Caddyshack animal house, all those kinda gross vulgar movies. And is he said the yearbook was kind of patterned on those gross in vulgar movies of the late seventies and early eighties. That hardly disqualifying are excited to. Here from our new next guest. He's Randy Zelin is ABC news legal analyst. And and Randy there's a lot of fascinating aspects to this first of all good morning. Welcome to the show. Good morning. Thank you that Iran. So Randy, and my my question is, and I know it's going to sound partisan. But when a guy like a cavenaugh comes out, and he's like bashing the Clintons and bashing the Democrats and bashing this whole would Sean does that mean he can be like a neutral sober judge. Once he sits on the high court. No. And let's not forget that yesterday was not a criminal trial yesterday was and we've heard it. It was a job interview. It was a job interview to be an associate Justice on the supreme court of the United States. So what are we supposed to be looking for what should the judiciary committee be looking for? Well, are you smart? Are you modest do you have the proper judicial temperament and judge Cavanaugh demonstrated anything, but proper judicial temperament, and I can only wonder how if I behave like that judge Kavanagh's courtroom. He would have received such behavior from me. Come on Randy. He has been smeared by the Democrats. I thought it was incredibly powerful for him to come out. Not being Mr. polite not being deferential to those buffoons on the left. But telling them that you are railroading an innocent, man. You don't think he had the right to say that was he that emotional when he gave the FOX interview the answer is no. And by the way, I agree with you. If I were wrongfully accused, I probably would have been equally if not more motion, but you know, what else would have done. I would have said to those senators you wanted investigation bring it on bring on the FBI the CIA the NAS the NSA bring on my mother my father. My sister bring on anybody. You want to beat a special grand jury convened? A judge do whatever you want because I didn't do a goddamn thing wrong. And I will stand up to anyone and as a judge. I welcome investigations there. Brought into my courtroom every single day. Randy I happen to agree with you one hundred percent retail agrees zero percent. And another thing that bothered me was when he starts bickering with these with these senators like the Senator from Minnesota she asked if he had a drinking or a blackout problem, and he fired back. No, do you have one. I mean that didn't seem for him. Now that doesn't seem very judicial to me. No, it was not traditional and again while I understand that he is a court of appeals judge. So he's not used to having trials conducted in in a courtroom. He still has been around long enough. He's more or less a lifetime member of the government or the judiciary except for a short stint as a partner in Kirkland analysis. So he knows better. And I again, I if I were defended and I were in real deep trouble. But I was in his courtroom in front of him. I can only question whether or not he would have tolerated such behavior for me because remember not every single person who walks into a criminal courtroom is guilty. And therefore, I might very well have had every right to be angry at as upset if I were defended in his courtroom, but I can assure you he would not tolerate such behavior. From me. Randy Zelin, I've found fascinating I think renal wants to hang up on you ABC news legal analyst. New york. Thanks, Rachel Miller. Thanks ready. So I so he obviously agreed with me. I was a almost pleasantly surprised you could say I will now be even will be sympathetic empathetic to people who come before him because of the presumption of innocence. It's just it's just didn't see something just didn't seem right to me for him to be a tearing oust the Clintons it sounded. Like it was out of the Republican playbook. And I thought judges were supposed to be above the fray. So that's why that's that struck me as odd. And then he was battling a smear campaign then to bicker with senators the way he did. No, I didn't did you insist he has he has the proper contempt for those democratic senators who a bunch of sinister awful evil. Randy Zelin, I grew bar association. I agree with Alan Dershowitz with me with you. Yes. The FBI negotiate. I'm not saying put this past the midterms, but taking a, you know, let's get this done. You don't have to give this guy a lifetime seat. There's nothing more to investigate. We know everything. Now, there's nothing to investigate the FBI would say, no, there's nothing. Here. We can't do anything about it. Thirty six years ago. There you go. Thanks, michael. But we got back more tickets to David rights final game. And the news stories that got buried by yesterday's hearing, you got Iran, you got Rosenstein, you've got some big stuff. And you got another chance two thousand dollars coming up at nine. Oh, five you got Mark Simone at ten o'clock. But.
