When you win, if you lose, you just kind of like, man, it should have never got to that point, but you know, it was a great game against a great team. Both teams made really big plays down the stretch, but at the end of the day we're just glad we won. LA erased an 18 point deficit but lost to the nuggets for the 6th consecutive time. Tyus Jones furnished 17 points while Luke canard Xavier Tillman and Dylan Brooks, each added 12 from Memphis. Moran says Tillman did a fine defensive job holding nuggets, big men Nikola Jokić and Michael Porter junior to a combined 20 points. A lot of credit goes to hell. You know, for locking in, no one, you know, what they want to get to and, you know, making everything tougher. Jokic has triple-double, Nuggets beat Cavaliers 115-109

"Nikola Jokić had another triple double and Michael Porter junior scored a team high 25 points in the nuggets, one 15 one O 9 victory at Cleveland. Jokic delivered 24 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists for another MVP type performance. He has 22 triple doubles this season, including 13 in his last 16 games. He impressed head coach Michael Malone. When the MVP goes out and puts up a triple double, that means he's impacting the game at a high level across the board. "More recently played with Team USA in the World Cup qualifiers. They build that team mostly from GE guys, but there's veterans Isiah Thomas played with that team, a couple times ago and then Joe Johnson recently just played with them as well. So yeah, so it sounds like one that's all wrapped up. He's going to join the Celtics on a two way. We'll see if that's one of those two year two ways or not. Jesus 6 foot 7 four pass him shooting range. He made a monetary it's about 38% of his three pointers on almost ten attempts per game. And the G league, so that's pretty good volume. And that's what Brad Stevens said. They were looking for shooting and shooting with size. What everybody wants is let's find our Duncan Robinson. Mary, let's find a guy who we bring in and we develop them and go from there. And he's kind of got similar ish mold to Robinson where he's again, good size, can really shoot he's a little older of a prospect, like Robinson was. I kept him from getting drafted. So yeah, we'll see if nothing else this is a two way spot for the rest of the year. And you kind of go from there, but then they've got two guys on ten days, so the Celtics still kind of have three standard open roster spots to see, by the way, tomorrow. March 1st is the bio deadline. So what that means is not to add players you can add players all the way up to the end of the season. But tomorrow at 5 p.m. eastern if guys aren't waived by then, then they're not eligible for the playoffs. So anybody who's going to take a bio. It's going to happen by tomorrow. And there's doesn't seem like we're going to get much more on that front. Been kind of a dud of a biomarker this year, hasn't it? I think guys are not wanting to give up money. I think that's the one thing, which if you think about it right after a couple uncertain seasons, probably makes some sense to hang on to your money, a lot of these guys still a lot of that money went into escrow accounts and those kind of things. And then I think the second thing is I think teams are not putting their faith in we got to do the biomarker because it's going to work for us with that. So yeah, I think we're in a position where just, you know, it is what it is, we'll see. I mean, at this point, it looks like we're on drug. Probably the biggest bio guy, and we'll see where that goes. It looked okay. In his first game with Brooklyn the other day. So let's see how this all turns out. All right, well, I think that wraps things up for today. Keith, you can go and try to rest your sunburn. School pickup with the air conditioning blasting on me. I'm sure I'll be a sight to behold. All right, well, feel better. In front of my show, we're gonna get to watch Keith throughout the week as his son burned heels up. He'll turn different shades and all that. "Those warriors teams. Like, how ridiculous it is. Month and a half to go, and these teams are three games away from, you know, what the warriors did. You'll recognize. That's really unbelievable. How many and this is kind of an aside. How many legitimate answers do you think there are to the question right now who's winning this year's NBA championship? Yeah, that's a great question. You don't have to go too hard to probably get to 8 teams that I feel like could actually want to, which is not that's not the norm. And that's my point. That's my point. You think about that warrior season, it was like, okay, it's going to be the warriors and if it's not the warriors. It's going to be the cast. You've got a couple other teams. That's it. There's so many teams where I'm looking at the standings right now and I'm like, it wouldn't shock me if it was them. But it wouldn't shock me if it was this team. There's so many different possibilities, which, as you referenced earlier, could be setting us up for a really exciting playoffs this year. Just to make sure. Speaking of teams that nobody wants to see come playoff time though, Paul George now. Making progress. Now, the clippers were still playing coy in terms of an actual return date. Ty lue said he doesn't know exactly when he's going to return, still needs more time. So we don't we can't even say he's going to be back this season. But all we know is that they did imaging recently and showed that he is indeed making progress, which that's great news. I don't know if it gets him back this season, but if he suddenly comes back, I think the clippers are going to be that much more dangerous, obviously, can play off time. Yeah, and to add to that for all that it went quiet, we still have not been told anything on Kauai with certainty yet either. So that is, that's one of where you kind of start looking and you're like, huh. Where could this go? I still think you're getting down to if they're not. Looking like they're going to be back within the next two or three weeks. It's probably at that point. You say, we're going to run with what we have. There's no reason to try to reintegrate these guys. Because again, you need some time to get out there, be on the court if you want to get into playoff games. But they're playing pretty good. Right, they're right there with Minnesota for that 7 8 spot. They've created a little bit of distance now in the Lakers. On both of them. So yeah, let's see where that goes. With them. But yeah, I mean, if you could get even one of those two guys back, yeah, that turns into all of a sudden, you know, if you're the son's warriors grizzly, you're like, man, we had these great seasons, and it's Denver. Clippers, Dallas. Sitting on that other side. That's like, really? I get a deal with this now. That's feels almost like, man. Maybe next year. We don't push so hard. Right. And I think we should mention that the clippers, they've done this before with injuries. We saw it last year in the playoffs where they were sort of not being very forthcoming..

"Absolutely. All right, in some positive news, Michael Porter junior, there's some hope that he's going to play again this season. And if that happens, if that happens, the Denver Nuggets could quickly become the proverbial team, nobody wants to see in the first round. And in the Western Conference, you get Jamal Murray back, you get Michael Porter junior, you could be off and running in Denver. I mean, and besides just, you know, what this could mean for the nuggets. It's always nice to hear a player recovering from injury, particularly something as potentially serious as what he's been dealing with. So that just surface level, that's great. But this is another thing that could have a major impact on the playoffs, which are quickly approaching. Yeah, I said on Twitter, they can be the actual team. Nobody wants to play. Because we will do that. I mean, we're going to do it too. Sure. Where it's all this teams are 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, and nobody wants to see them. And it's like, we all fall in love with you generally the same team. And then usually that team gets swept in the first round or something and gets beaten fairly easily. But in the case of the nuggets, that could be very real because this is a team that is his full strength is really, really good. So yeah, hey, I'm all for, you know, let's get the nets to full strength. Let's get the nuggets to full strength. Let's get full strength teams by the postseason. Because it just makes the playoffs that much better. And these playoffs already look like they're going to be really good on both sides. So, you know, I think, I mean, well, of course, we'll have a couple walk over series just because it happens. We've still got a month and a half to go in the regular season anyway. And who knows who will be available by the time we get to that point. But he really is one of those things where right now today it looks like we could have great series in every Syria here. Great long series in every series on both sides of the bracket..

"To live in that role player environment at times is very good for him and I think I agree with you. You could see that in his early season play. And in their winning streak, where it's like, in the past, particularly when he was younger, it was like for the son's the win while he just kind of had to score like 50. Now it's like he could score 23, but he might have had a really large impact on every area of the game. And they're going to win the game because he was really good on the floor. But you know what else you saw the other night with him out? They're just a complete team. You know, they can lose a guy, and they're still really tough to play. To me, that wasn't like the warriors let their guard down in allowed an undermanned sons team to beat him. It was like, no, Phoenix was really tough for them to score against. Even after busy left. No, I think that you hit the nail on the head with that. With the warriors, I mean, what's the vibe around the warriors right now? Because you're there every day. I mean, like, is it a situation where they're obviously like super pumped about the way the season is gone? And to an extent they're waiting for Klay Thompson to get back and even maybe take this to the next level. How do we think the warriors are feeling about this entire thing? They're feeling very good. It started in preseason. They had a 5 O preseason and they were just killing teams. They shot 69 threes in their preseason opener in Portland and the offense was just humming and you could just felt like the different amount of space and also just the increased level of offensive IQ with guys I got a Porter, be aliza. You felt early on, like, OJ mon arrived in shape, which has been a huge thing. And the fact that they started winning early just got took draymond to another level where if you click on that championship possibility in his brain, suddenly the game ends and they've talked about it. The game ends, he sprints to the weight room and he's hammering out different workouts and having smoothies and talking about how he's drinking less. And you just see that hunger within him. And there's just a refresh mentality organization wide where you didn't if you're them you didn't want to have the last couple seasons. You didn't want to be 15 and 50 and have Steph really break his hand badly and all that. Or even last year, they were really, really wanting to get in the playoffs and try to give Utah a test in the first round. But I think the fact that those last two seasons went like they did, which was like vacation year in the first year. Obviously, I think. Late a lot of just priorities on the line and made them re look at their lives a little bit and then last year to just fight, but be kind of undermanned and kind of figure out who they had to be, you know, obviously they made some personnel mistakes last year, stylistic mistakes. And then coming off of that the way they just revamped this summer. They made the right roster decisions. Steve Kerr is operating in a much more urgent way early this season..

"Very curious. They go back to San Francisco. You're going to have a little bit more of a motivated warriors. They don't want to be swept in this one, two. They're going to they're going to watch film and scheme up a little bit. I could see them targeting ayton with some other different misdirection stuff because they have counters off of their counters. I want to see him in that play Friday night, but in general, if this was a playoff series, we'd be between games one and two. We would be talking about the adjustments the warriors need to make to atone and I haven't talked about a traditional center like that with the warriors in a while. Yeah, you know, it was interesting. Like with 8 and I think for a long time, people thought, you know, to bring it back to draymond green, you've heard draymond green talk about the 82 game player versus the 16 game player, probably as much as any media member. And I mean, I think that the concern with Deandre was that he's an 82 game player, not a 16 game guy, and then the lights came on last year like you said. And it was just abundantly clear. He's like, oh, he's a 16. And he's not an 82 game player. He's actually better in the 16. That's what it seemed. Draymond green's the belief is draymond green coined that phrase because he told Larry Harris that and then Larry Harris related to us. Is that true? Is somebody who's in draft world? Do you think draymond green coined the 16 game phrase? Look, I've always kind of attributed it to draymond, but like, I don't know, man. You know that better than I do because you know? I put it out there through, you know, and this is funny that when draymond drafted Jacob Evans, I don't want to say draymond did, but he was part of the draft team that came to the consensus that they. By the way, I really like Jacob Evans too. I was there with drag on that. Yeah..

"Where do we think this leaves Michael Porter at this point? Because it just feels like an enormous question mark to me. Well, even before he left and disappeared, really, for a few weeks, while he was trying to figure out what was going on. He wasn't playing that well. And I think we can now trace back like, well, the back probably had something to do with it. And he's funny, like the play that people point to is the transition dunk that happened against Houston, I think it was like very, very early in the game and he gets a run out and he tries to lift up off of his whatever. I thought he'd like pulled a hamstring or something. And people were like, oh my God, look at this idiot. He just screwed up this dunk, and I was like, that looks like a dude that's hurt. That was his last play, right? That's the last time we saw him. Yeah, and then they brought him back really quickly in the game. I don't know if his last play, but it was certainly the last game he played. With that, it was bizarre. And yet, it felt like sports center, like tweeted it out like, oh my God, what is Michael Porter junior doing here? Like, how did you screw this up? And it's like, no, this is bad. This is back injury, guys. For a guy with a history of it, which is the big concern, but I mean, look, as somebody who is covering who covers really the top of the west and I'm trying to figure out the title contenders non contenders and just like the stratification of the west and my first thought, now you know he's pretty much out for the year and how careful they should be with it you knocked Denver. They were already teetering because we don't even know what Jamal Murray. I mean, theoretically, it could be in April May return. But I think at this point, Denver organizationally probably needs to take a step back from this season. As somebody, again, who covers the west knock them off the ledger for this season and then you go longer term and this is in the Porter lens, but this is also in just the Denver title contention lens. And I do think it was a window, right? In the bubble there in the west finals and actually I thought played the Lakers pretty well in that series. And then even last season when they executed the Aaron Gordon trade, it was kind of their all in move and for that brief period before Jamal Murray gets heard actually in San Francisco. Is that the game? They actually look like they could be a challenger and it ended up being a west that they probably could have won if they were full strength. Phoenix won it, their solid will get to Phoenix. But I just kind of start to view where Porter's career might be going and the fact that we don't even know what Jamal Murray will look like when he comes back and you start to get more concerned about just Denver's title window. It's interesting. Like I've been trying to figure out, do you write them off for this year or not? Because we don't know when Jamal Murray's going to be back, right? The reports are April right now. If I remember correctly, which he appeared in April May..

"So that would be after this day. So maybe even if he is back somehow, but unvaccinated, he wouldn't be able to go there. So before people, yelling screaming at the MBS to do something. They can't Trump just like they can't Trump any local rules and municipalities. In the states, they certainly can't in Canada. You know, that's the thing they can do. So it's just the idea it is what it is and it kind of deal with it. Move on. Yep. So we'll see. We'll find out. I mean, we don't have a pretty, very good sense of who is not vaccinated in the NBA right now, but perhaps this will be revealing. It's also possible that the handful of players who are unvaccinated don't have a game in Toronto during that after January 15th. So we may not find out. We'll see. There's only 16 of them. So yeah, so there's a good chance that there's that definitely something there. Let's end on a little bit of a positive. Just in general kind of a weird week for the MBA because there's no games on Thursday because of the Thanksgiving holiday. They steer clear of the NFL on that day and a half for years. So that means there's kind of these loaded schedules on Monday, a whole bunch of games, loaded schedule on Wednesday, 13 games on Wednesday, so good opportunities on those nights to be kind of bouncing around the league passed out and then this is the positive is going to especially we know we have a lot of international viewers. The Friday Saturday and Sunday, we get some early tips. Our international Friends can see some stuff. So yeah, the Black Friday early tip is pistons clippers. Then Saturday, 6 o'clock, Timberwolves 76ers. And then on Sunday, we've got the afternoon game warriors clippers, which is actually a pretty good one at three 30. And then there's a whole couple more too box pacers, Celtics raptors, kings, grizzlies, all before 7, 7 p.m. eastern. So I stretched there to find a positive, but where did you something? We know we have a lot of international Friends who watch and listen. So we'll be happy for those guys. So we're pretty psyched for them. Got to like that. Okay, so there is a positive to end on, but here's one, jaylen brown's probably gonna play tonight. There you go. That's a positive. That's a good one. It's probable. Hey, man Robert Williams, Celtics. Knock on wood back to basically full full health starting, starting tonight, which is they want a couple in a row now that they've Houston. So God forbid they lose that one, that'll be a miserable Thanksgiving. Should that happen? The rockets are on a 14 game losing streak coming into town. So, yeah, so Celtics getting out there. So there's a real true positive. There's certainly a positive there, always want to hear about players getting healthy and also positive, we appreciate all the support that we've gotten here on this channel and the show. "Oh, gosh, this is awful. All right, let's go to a story that probably wants to make nuggets fans. I mean, Michael Porter junior went out with a back injury a couple weeks ago. We saw it on something didn't look right he went up for it. That's what I was. That play where you could see you could see that he just didn't he had no lift. He couldn't he physically could not dunk the basketball in the moment. Yeah. In any immediately grabbed at his back, tried to play had to leave. Now Mike singer of the Denver post has reported that he has a nerve issue in his back that could force him to miss the entire 21 22 season. So the rest of this season, and he even says Porter could undergo another back surgery to address the issues. Already had two back surgeries. Already, this is what caused him to slide in the draft. With the back problems. Then he looked pretty good. He looked pretty he missed his entire rookie years. They were strengthened his back following the second surgery. And then looked pretty good when he came back his second year, but his rookie year. And then last year looked great. Didn't look like foundational piece for the nuggets. They're moving it forward and not so that the nuggets signed him to a max contract extension, which will kick in next year at about 29.7 million. And there is, a lot of people have been asking me, does this have the Joel embiid protection in it? Like Joel embiid's contract had with the 76ers. And the answer is no, it has some protection in it for the nuggets, but it's not quite to the level of a bead where within beads there was a couple different points or the sixers basically could have got out of it completely clean. What it is is the final season, 2026, 27. Porter is said to make $39.3 million in that season. And the final year that 5 year max, it's 12 million guaranteed it is 17 million guaranteed if he makes the all star team once in a prior year. So anytime between 2022 and 2026 or if he makes it twice and then there's other criteria map, which are all basically tied to games played as one of the criteria then it becomes fully guaranteed. So it's not much. There's a little bit of protection for the nuggets to get out of there. But not much. I mean, it's I mean, yeah, four years from exactly. So the next the next four seasons, no matter what. He's under contract for about a 133.3 million. Over the next four C is one of three max players on debt books next year along with jokic, Jamal Murray, and then you've got Aaron Gordon million. You've got well bar and F-14 point four million..

Keith, man, a couple of fairly negative stories. Well, I guess depending on your perspective here, let's start off with Luke Walton. Let go by the Sacramento Kings. I say depending on perspective because I have seen kings fans who are celebrating here, but Luke Walton, the first coach to lose his job this season looks like Alvin gentry is going to be the guy to take over in Sacramento. Was it time for this to happen with the kings? Was it maybe past time for this to happen? What were your thoughts on the king's making this move? Yeah, I think it should have happened in the off season. I don't like when you now you bring in a new coach. It's Alvin gentry, who's been there. He's going to be the interim head coach for the rest of the season. He's there as an assistant. He's also under contract for next year. So my guess is this is somewhat of an audition to see. Can they play well enough? They don't keep the job into next year. But I just don't like when you could have taken your off season, albeit a shorter one than usual, but still better than it was two seasons ago. You could have let the new coach install a system have some say in personnel really build this thing out and go and they hung on to Luke wall and when I think we all knew where this was headed one way or the other unless they had really come out and shocked everybody and you know, if there were 11 and 6 now, of course you wouldn't be fired, but instead they're 6 and 11, they've lost three straight, they want to say they've lost like 8 out of ten or something like that or in that range and that they're they've now fallen, it's only a game and a half. It's not anything crazy. But they're now out of the playing picture in the west. So, you know, this is a let's try to get a new coach in here with salvage this..

"That orange and take it to the shower. And get the shower like steaming hot and the steam and the heat kind of like opens up your pores and your nostrils and your taste buds. Then you get to peeling that orange. And then eating it. It's just such a pure little moment of absolute sensual wonder and joy. First thing in the morning, right when you get up and have to face the day. And then an episode two O two with Lauren pasil, her sour routine is silly and incredible. Okay, this thing that I do every single day since I was 5 years old and I didn't even tell anyone about it until I was 21. It was like a secret I had with myself. But I college shower belly and every single morning, I get it has to be bar soap. You get bar soap and you lather it on your stomach for a long time until there's a layer of soap. It has to be like a true layer. And then I draw in it and I call it my shower belly creations and it makes me really happy and it's like a little ritual I have with myself. What did you draw today? Pizza. And now today I'm going to give you one more nugget of shower advice with an actual nugget. Yeah, my name is Michael Porter junior. I'm gonna be a player I play for the Denver Nuggets. And I go by curious Mike. And one of the first things curious, Mike does in the morning. Cold shower. Well, I start off. It's really hard to do, but it's like, for two reasons. It just, it gets you going for the day. There's a lot of research about cold showers. I would affect, you know, your mental, your happiness, all those things. And then also, like, facing a fear, first thing in the morning, which is like, you know, cold showers. That's tough. So if you can kind of conquer that it kind of sets you up for the day to try to win that day. I love that. So you start hot and then how do you kind of phase into the cold? Yeah, so this kind of couple ways that I'll do it. First, I'll just kind of start with the normal shower. And wash my body, get all that out of the way. And then before I get out, I'll just turn it all the way cold. All the way. It was only a few seconds at first, but now like I can just chill in there and I'll do some breathing in there. But you just all over your body, I do it on the back of my neck, my head, and I'm a whole body and it just awakes you up, bro. When you get out of the shower, you're gonna feel invigorated, ready to go. And so it started off by just a few seconds. Now I kind of work my way up to a couple minutes, or you can do it to where you go hot for like 15 seconds and you turn it all the way cold for 15 seconds and back hot and then cold for like a few cycles and you'll feel really good when you get out. I love that that it becomes a symbol for facing fear. Yeah, yeah, exactly. That's kind of how I do it. Face a fear first thing in the morning and to just get you off to the right start. I wonder if trying all three of these strategies during the same shower is flying too close to the sun and wings of bar soap and orange peels. I'm gonna try it. If you want to hear some more from Michael Porter junior, check out his podcast. It's called curious Mike. I would love to keep adding to the shower strategy archive. Give me a call, 8 four four, 9 three 5 best. 8 four four 9 three 5 best. What's a helpful thing you do in the shower? Let me know. If you're enjoying this show, please talk about us on social media. But now he doesn't want stay here in other news. Marla mac and the indianapolis colts are mutually agreeing to seek a trade. I hate these kind of articles. I really do. I hate i hate anything. Any trade talk in the news. I hate like keep it secret. You know like keep it under wraps like the internal until you ask to make deal please. Because his lowers the value of the trade like. I'm i mean some people still going to say. Hey i want marla mac team. I'll give you a second round. Pick form call it a day but other people like whoa. If both of you don't wanna be with each other. Then they'll give you fourth at six round pick from something like a turkey and chief sandwich which is exactly what happens to the lions in jamie collins. I they put it out there like a. "Update today, he did come on and say, I didn't say never will. He said that I just decided to not do right now. So we'll see where it goes. And then Jonathan Isaac said that unvaccinated vaccinated players are being vilified and bullied. That was the way that he sees that. And I know we have talked about him injury wise as well as Mark L faults, but that was something that he put out there that he feels like players who are not vaccinated are being targeted in the way to get it. 90%, 90 plus percent of the NBA is vaccinated. So we're not talking about the majority here that is dealing with this situation, but the fact that it's some high profile names, I think that's turning this into an even bigger story. Well, the reality is, if it was Joe camp player, no one cares. Because it's your own the roster for the next few weeks and then you're out of here. So I don't really care if you're vaccinated or not. For the general public. I mean, that's just the reality of the situation. But also, Joe camp player, guy fighting for a roster spot. I can tell you have had multiple conversation with players with agents and teams, where it was, yeah, it's absolutely a factor. And do we, Gary, are you going to be available to play? Think about if you're a guy trying to fight your way onto the nets or the warriors roster? The last thing you probably can get away with the same, but I'm not gonna be able to play half. Oh, yeah. You're gonna move on and go get a different player just 'cause it's, you know, and you could say fair unfair scream up and down. Well, playing in the NBA is a privilege. It's not a right. It's not something everybody gets to because otherwise suit me up. I'll be out there. It's not how this works..

"And it's just 19 points per game on 54, 45 80. That's ridiculous. Those numbers sound like they're not even sustainable, right? That's how high they are. Yeah. Yeah, and at his size, the lift he gets on his jump shot. You can't even bother you. There's nothing you can do. And I know people are like, well, yeah, but you kind of said it, it was not very sustainable. Well, last year, 51%, 42%, 83%. So I think it got a little bit forgotten. This guy was in the mix to be the number one pick in his draft class. And there were a lot of people who thought he might be. And he was absolutely an dominant offensive player on the high school level, and then didn't really play in college. And this is why the nuggets I think feel comfortable, we're locking into this big money. We're going to get into that here in a minute because they've paid a lot of money to a lot of guys now. But it's because this guy, I think they see him as an absolutely dominant offensive weapon. And somebody who really fits well within their kind of hierarchy with jokic with Mari and with Aaron Gordon. So I don't, I thought he might get a touch less. Now Ryan McDonough, former sons GM now does media work. He reported that the final year is not fully guaranteed. And that's something that's going to be interesting to see. What does he have to do to hit those get that to be guaranteed and you mentioned, he does have that designated player language, which could push him into the middle tier that 30% max here, but he's got to make all NBA. This season, he's got to do that. That's probably not overly likely. I would guess. But I don't know, I'm not gonna say it's definitely not likely for a guy who has certainly proven to, that he's over the injury issues and he's fully healthy and ready to go. Well, here's the thing Keith, a minute ago, you said, now if there was some more effort. Like think about that. Like you put up 19 points on those crazy shooting percentages now imagine if he tried. Like that's and I know we're talking about the other things, the non shooting, the defensive one, right? He gets criticism on in other parts of his game for sure. But I mean, this is a guy where we talk about you want to pay a player for what they're going to do. Not necessarily for what they have done. When you play a player for what they have done, that's where sometimes you can get yourself into trouble, especially with an older, obviously, it's not the case with Michael Porter junior. But in the case of Michael Porter junior, what they're doing is they're paying him as though he is going to continue to grow and continue to develop..

Strategy Execution Results: Get in Gear Sean T. Ryan -

"Pretty good year here. It's just gotta clean. It's gotta to be whatever the case and it just works all the way through and and it's just find brilliant so let's just go right into right right right. I gear right. That's the first gear right right right here. Getting the right right. Let's what is what is right right right. What is that first gear. How does it connect to strategy. Let's talk about that real quick. Absolutely right right right is about having the right people in the right roles with the right capabilities and and so you know the the idea that you can have a strategy but without the right people it's going to be really hard to execute and if people don't have the right capabilities It's going to be hard to execute that strategy Or if you've got you have good people when We we knew we. We knew that we had this opportunity. We had just gotten into Refreshment putting the m you know in the plastic bottle water you know back in like nineteen ninety four ninety five and we could see that business taking off at that particular point in time coca cola and pepsi. Were not in the bottled water. Business business was just too small right but we also knew that there was a at the time with with our with our growth. We knew there was a point in time at which they were going to jump into the bottled water business and we also knew that we didn't actually have the talent to be able to compete against them effectively especially in in our leadership levels. And so you know right people in the right roles with the right capabilities. We knew we needed to go. Recruit different people who fit our strategy number one and number two who were gonna fit our values and our values around honesty integrity teamwork building respect The that were absolutely critical to us providing the leadership to our team that we were anticipated. We were going to need to have that five now. We we didn't know it was going to be five full growth over seven years at the time That that really just kind of happened but it happened because we did get. We did realize we needed a different capability of of leaders a previously. We had hired talent Pretty much off the street. Just technical-functional talent technical-functional talents important but leadership capabilities were hugely important. And so we had to really re gear and rethink. Who do we need to have on our team. How do we go find those people. And then how do we recruit and select them to be on the team to get the talent that we needed to be able to enable that success. Okay so something you say in this book right. Nobody exactly this way. But i'm gonna say you hire to the values. I mean you you hired to the values you'd because i think it's so easy to do in and by the way i appreciate. How much of a big fan. You are michael porter. Because i love competitive advantage and so i love that about you Just one thing. It's not the only thing. I i'd love several things about you but i think hiring values is something that we don't do very a at least in my experience. Coaching businesses is that. Sometimes we try. We're so focused in hiring this great talent that we're not hiring to our values of company in nor do we really know clearly what the values are our company and us us a pretty great questions here. You know what we stand for what we believe. In what are the broad boundaries. You want people to play within enable us to execute a strategy. I think those are really fundamental questions that every business needs to ask right up front. I agree a hundred percent in the way. I would describe it a little bit. Jay is i think there's always a gap in an organization between where you are and where you want to be in. We talked a lot about obviously strategy to houston results. We're talking about the business strategy. How do we position ourselves in the marketplace to be successful but to me. It's it's really kind of that strand of where do we need to be. And how do we need to get their. What's that business strategy. That gets us to that as wayne gretzky would have said you know. I don't skate where the puck is ice skate to where the puck is going to be. That's that's really. The essence of strategy is skating delaware. The puck going to be the. That's the business strategy. But i think there's an intertwined strands of dna with business strategy which we call the cultural strategy. What's what's the culture of the organization that we need to have is going to enable us to execute that business strategy and culture starts with the values. What are we. Stand the the questions that you've posed there. What are we stand for. What are we believe. In what are those widest parameters that. We want people to play within. What were those are values and you know there are some that are i think they should be they. They may not be but they should be almost universal honesty and integrity respect and by respect. I mean deep respect Not just respecting respecting people for who. They are for the diverse. You know background that they bring to the table respecting them as human beings in and trust and trustworthiness i think are universal but but then there's some that can be particular to an organization based upon their strategy. There there are some organizations that have to be absolutely cutting edge innovative right constantly thinking outside the box and then there may be other organizations where it's not about the most innovative you know cutting edge bleeding edge organization but you have to have incredible continuous improvement. We're getting a little bit better tomorrow. And then again day after it again the day after is the key to success will depending upon those those valley. What you need to be successful does drive some of the component of the values of the organization right right and then that drives who you need to look for. Do you need to look for people. Who reminds her. Just you know. They're buzzing all the time and they are the cutting edge bleeding edge creators ordinary people. Who have that continuous improvement mentality. And so the business strategy drives the cultural strategy which drives who you need to go find to help you execute that strategy again. You know you. i'm going to quote you again. You said Critical issues to be clear upfront. About what values. Your organization needs to support the execution of your strategy.

"Would say on this radio show like, Look, you're not winning a championship unless Michael Porter Jr develops. In Denver. In the end, that might be the case. You look at this team and publicly wrote about it today. There's something lacking with this team, so I don't think it's too off base to say if Michael the Nuggets won't be untrue contention for a championship until Michael Porter reaches His full potential. And the Nuggets afford to wait. I mean, they're not. It's like with LeBron in Cleveland, like this is not a young team anymore. He played five playoff series in the last two years there on the cuts. The next step for them would be to make an MBA finals there, not a young team anymore. My MBA standards. There are very veteran group And the one outlier in the regular rotation. I know RJ Hamptons getting more run because of all the injuries but in the regular rotation in their starting lineup. They got all these guys with all this playoff experience. With more playoff experience more years. Michael Porter Jr. And I'm just I'm starting to doubt that it's going To work. Michael Malone. I'll give him this level of credit. Michael Malone. Last night tried his level best to roll with Michael Porter Jr. In the third quarter when the Nuggets were collapsing again. Like a 12 13 15 run or something by Milwaukee in the third quarter last night, Michael Porter Jr was out there. Michael Malone was trying to play Michael Porter Jr. With this starters with his first unit. And trying to get him to be a part of their success. And I've said this. The best spot for Michael Porter Jr to be in, is playing with Jamal Murray and playing with Nicole Yokich. That's the best thing for his development, and Michael Malone was trying that last night. What you see. Of frustration is not hidden. From the Nuggets players, they will say all the right things. Before the game after the game, I'll say all the right things. And I don't think they're lying to us. Just think I think they like Michael Porter. I think they recognize what a talent he is. They want him to be successful because him being successful. Could mean a part of their success. So I don't think there's any animosity. Towards Michael Porter. Even Will Barton, the guy who's spot Michael Porter took in the starting lineup has been one of his biggest allies. And one of his biggest cheerleaders. What the When you're in the heat of battle when you're playing a game. You're not gonna mask you're not gonna met. You're not going to measure twice and cut once when it comes to your emotions like you're just gonna let it fly. And there was a moment there where Michael Porter Jr takes a contested shot when the Nuggets were trying to nurse elite just a bad shot selection. Just you don't take that shot. Not only was it contested, but it was in that point where the Nuggets really need to take care of the basketball maximize possessions because they're trying to hold off the bucks. He pulls up for this shot. And you could see the frustration with Nicole Yokich. He was visibly frustrated, and this is not the first time. And Nicole Yokich, even after the game while while he was polite about it. Admitted. Yeah, I got I got on Michael Porter Jr a little bit. There is just a bad shot. E O was not the timing. We're gonna have to lead. It was contested shots like the guy was right there. So I think it was just the best shot in that moment, you know, and I want everyone to know I want to meet your game. He wasn't in the game. We want the game, so Desperate station, something that is part of the game. And your kitchens being polite, But at least he said, Yeah, I told him that wasn't a good shot. You could see his frustration on the court in there in lies. What is becoming ah, bigger issue with this team. You're pairing one of the Highest I Q players. At least this side of LeBron, If not give Nicole Yokich higher basketball I Q score, then LeBron James. One of the most intelligent basketball players we have in the league. Nicole Yokich is being paired with a low basketball I Q. Sophomore And it's driving Nicole Yokich crazy. The fix here isn't throttling Michael Porter Bank. This is this is the conundrum The Nuggets find themselves in. Because Saying, All right, we're not going to rely on Michael Porter Jr at these crucial times, or we're going to relegate him to the second unit. It's like that does that stunt his growth? In order for him to develop. He has to be out there in big moments with The best unit. He has to be out there that is, what's going to be best for his development. But it's growing more more apparent by the day. That what is best for Michael Porter is not what's best for the Denver Nuggets. Done. Not in the not right now. In the longer term view, Yes. Because again if Michael Porter reaches the but full potential in terms of the player we think he can Then the Nuggets have a legitimate Three star. I know Murray's had his problems.
