"The problems with offenses were saying today is that there's nobody on the bench. You know you've got this. You've got fourteen pitchers and a twenty six man. Roster you're you're kinda limited here to tune in pinch it though you know if you look at the more successful teams. I don't know that that is being viewed as an impediment right now. Yeah i guess this week sign of the starting pitcher pacalypse is that the twins are currently employing a seven man rotation because michael pineda came off the injured list. They have joe ryan who came up. He's been pitching well. And then they have a bunch of other guys. So it's just seven men rotation and you know. The twins are out of contention. Obviously and they're just trying to like not overwork anyone and see some more of the young guys that they've brought up so it makes sense. I suppose but that kind of thing gets normalized. And next thing you know we'll be seeing teams in different situations who are going with seven rotations. We've certainly seen six men rotations all over the place and then you have the race. Who were always pushing the envelope in this sort of thing and of course as they continue to have success often they have spawned imitators with the opener. And as you noted maybe the opener has gotten a little less common after the initial wave. But if we have fewer openers we just sort of heaven opener is as a starters. I guess where those things are kind of blending together. And i'm sure other teams are looking at the raise model and easier said than done. Obviously but if they could do that then maybe they would you know if the race make a deep run into october again if they would win a world series with this sort of amorphous mass of pitcher. His sewer not really an assigned roles. I mean is that the future do you think that there will always be some mismatching innings. Totals i assume because you're always going to have good pitchers and bad pitchers and it would be silly not to use your good pitchers more than the pictures on the back end of your roster but i just wonder what that differential will be ultimately and potentially how many innings your leaving on the table with your good starters who perhaps could be conditioned to throw more of those innings. Yeah either that. Or i could see a situation where there might like if the rules were changed more about how long you have to keep guys up or keep them down on the farm when there is Moves between the majors and the minors That could push teams. Maybe to at least get to winning relievers instead of one inning reliever kind of you know the ideal that we all have of what. Andrew miller was During his really good year pitching only seventy four innings back in two thousand sixteen. But still you know some way that there is a mac and reliever. Who accumulates more value than guys who just come onto pitch to three or four batters and throw twenty pitches one inning at a time. But for starters that. There's no evidence that i can see that the.

"Byron Buxton looks great when he plays, but he's always hurt. Um, you know, you've got Donaldson. You've got a lot of young outfielders that they're starting to fit into. You know who do they decide to keep Trevor Wir nach looks like he might be keeper. But what's that do with us? A A Max Kepler. They got some bullpen pieces again. Some of the guys that they counted on really haven't come through Randy Dab neck. Some of the guys to fill out the rotation, So I think they're getting close to a point where they may be going to just got that thing and Try to figure out where to start over with and I think you're going to start to see born more of their younger guys come up and play and another piece there. Michael Pineda, who is going to come. He just did a rehab start Thursday night getting act around a triple A, but you don't come that for much, but he'll be back in the rotation, probably by next week. Two or three. Good starts out of him, and there's a huge piece for somebody at the trade deadline. Well, I'm going to put Kenema Captain. My data on the Padres. How about that? But, yeah, I mean, he'd be a good fit, and you know, it's a veteran guy. That's something the Padres could use your if the Padres go for picture, it's got to be sort of that veteran guy because they're still pretty young in that rotation, and I think they need that that steady hand. At the top of the rotation if they're going to match up in the playoffs. Alright Paul, the Dodgers. The Dodgers with the Bauer scenario is a big question mark in their rotation. They're really down, not one starter, but two starters, depending on how long Bauer is going to be out. Any certain names, or do we know anything about the about our situation? In case they are going to be traded? No. And I think the Dodgers really sort of don't know either. You know, I mean, they're kind of going by what Bauer's told them, you know, Uh, MLB's trying to do with its own investigation, but they don't have any power in that They have to hope. Bauer will cooperate with them. They have to hope the woman involved will cooperate with them. Um, the thing about the Dodgers is there's still still depth. I mean, you're not going to replace power. Yeah, There's you're not going to go out and get somebody vets at that level. But you know, they're just now stretching out Consul in, uh, they'll they'll have him with two or three starts down the road. They'll have room ready to go 67 innings if they want to, You know, I think they're going to kind of take the approach. We're probably still good enough. Now, if we get they've got 3 to 4 weeks to figure this out. If we get too late July and all of a sudden this guy is not coming back..

"Get your name. Excuse me on the list for the show. Notes aren't so we go down the lines you're talking about. Some wind moves from this past week and the markets look like they've been pretty sharp on totals moves. We've seen a lot of totals moves upward down a full run and those seem to be cashing at a very high rate and the half run moves cashing in a pretty high rate as well so the markets the modeling crowd. The crowd the qualitative handicappers. Everybody seems to be pretty in tune with totals so far this season. So if you're seeing a totals move in particular one that's up or down a full run those seem to be cashing a very high rate here. So far this season we saw totals move on walker bueller. jt brubaker. Seven and a half up to eight and a half four that game for the dodgers in the pirates on monday that one fell in between it actually fell on eight but we also saw big move in the braves and phillies. Total with aaron. Nola andrew smiley that one went up and easily over the total there in that one sauce sunny gray and reds money on tuesday adrian. Hauser and the brewers the reds taking money at home. This is nothing new. We've talked about this a lot. It happens virtually every game that they play so a lot of reds money coming in in their home games also subsequently the reds fade in their road games. I don't think that that's stopping here anytime soon. Saw some marlins money. On tuesday heavily at that with pablo lopez up against colorado antonio sends a tele rockies did went on the road on wednesday there now five and twenty three in their road game so yet seeing a rockies fade on the road pretty regularly they'll lament and padres money came in on tuesday and zach davies and the cubs. Actually money on the padres. Both tuesday and wednesday against the cubs and the cubs went both of those games including area and darvish on wednesday. The padres not hitting right now. Offense has been a problem for them all year. long way. too much talent to be this bad But you know they're they are so we'll see if they can figure things out offensively as here. Heavy tigers money came in on tuesday. It was marco gonzales and matt boyd boyd. In the tigers a winner there in that one houston foot to a clear favourite. The modeling crowd loved fromberg valdez. Expect money to come in infirm. Rebel starts on the astros. So that'd be something you want to try to get out in front of out there in the marketplace when he is the scheduled starter other total. Move here george. Montgomery michael pineda in this yankees and twin series and a lot of runs so far. Both of these totals getting beat up on tuesday and wednesday and both of them going over the total. You angels took money on monday. Tuesday and wednesday all three games of that series against the royals and they want all three of them so the market correct on those not surprising. The fate of chris bobick in the middle game book. A guy who is in line forced negative progression to be sure. I thought that brad keller and the royals were a little bit. You know underpriced on wednesday and of course they lose six to one in that one. But the angels taking money in all three games of that series and lastly for tuesday. A lot of chris bassett's team for oakland against arizona. Wednesday zach f want money. They hit the board that wound up a winner as the phillies walked off. The braves. Much to my chagrin dodgers took money on wednesday. That was twenty gone. Selene and tyler anderson johnson off the i l. dodgers against the left. He's still got bet up. Only won the game two one but as i said. Keep an eye on tyler anderson there and those decreased spin rates red. Stick money again on wednesday. The tigers also took money again on wednesday a lot of fades in the mariners out there in the marketplace. We've talked about them a lot here recently on the show where they are an overachiever. Based on those alternate standings metrics of third order win percentage base runs thackery and win loss all of that not a surprise to see anti mariners money in the market against the tigers. And we're actually seeing it pretty much every day. Here as i mentioned the fate of randy dobnak and some money on your at cole and wednesday but the biggest thing for me was that totals move going up and the game easily going over the total little bit of a fan of taiwan walker and the mets on wednesday by the way the mets despite all these dudes on the i l. Their offense has been very very good here of late if beating up on some bad pitching but a lot of these journeymen guys in call ups and all that have been very effective for the mets. The over money was right in that walker and matt harvey game. But the fate of taiwan walker really hasn't worked he still has one of the biggest well differences on the negative regression side in baseball. But it just hasn't come to fruition yet and people are losing a lot of money fading taiwan walker right now raise the money that was mcclanahan and corbin raise law second nine to seven by the way patrick corbin only three swings and misses in that. Start for the nationals. He does not look good at all and i agree with fading him pretty much any time. He's on the mound. The cardinals took money with adam wainwright on the hill on wednesday. They hung a big number on the tribe and one that one against john carlos mia and the indians bullpen karnal. Saving money at home specifically in wainwright starts not a big surprise at all thursday. We're seeing some more dodgers money. That's julio uriel and mitch..

"Of work to that he has to put in repetition execute flawlessly at doing stuff. It's crazy to me. Harris even said it on the podcast harris place for the brooklyn nets to d- to With ryan ruko the other day literally said on a podcast. You can't bill k. d. in nba two k. You can't even build a player that simulates him right on the video game because it is so uniquely different now. Everybody i we brought on the show says one is just rarity is different any seven tawny shoot like you six four so he already seven feet it in then when he was his wingspan. Take him up to like nine or something crazy. I just don't. Doesn't it. Feel like when we talk about milwaukee or will we hear coach. Bud speak monja here yada speak. It feels like they're deflated. It feels like i'm actually is no morla. Feels like having to say that you know. I didn't get to high after sweep the heat. I'm not gonna get too low after this is like what else are you going to say like. He really celebrating after. They swept the heat put. That was that was that was that same really high to me. It is again it goes back to and just put a bow on it. Is why when you athlete a certain level and you mentioned the work that it takes to get as good as that. The why oh. He's so sensitive to criticism. Because the work you put in the last thing you want is some you know guy like me. Criticizing his game. We like any idea what it takes to even get this good. No no i. Don't i i would say jew and you said site line but one thing you don't have to have in the nba is like some you know like some substance you can put on your hand make you better shooter. But in in baseball the is definitely do have that. And that's the discussion. We have to have here in keyshawn jay every day. I do it every show case. Sean jammie k. a. y. yeah. I'm not recovering from set your together. I'm gonna get it on social media for that now. Well we're presented by progressive insurance progressive homequote explorer. Changing the way you buy home insurance that you can go online and get a custom quotes both time and money. Learn more progressive dot com. Give me some to pass a memo going to go to team later this week and after that major league baseball will order. Pires you check the pitchers from what i understand. You're going to do random checks to answer. Yes it's always in these situations with whatever sport. It is is a controversy. Where you learn different phrases and words and things you've never had before and your lexicon and then becomes something us all the time new word for everybody to phrase spider tack. Now we'll all be talking about spider tech and let's do that bus. Only joins us right now. On the on the goodyear hotline espn baseball insider by the way buster. Good morning spider tech. Tell us about it. It's one of the substances. That pitchers have used in recent years to take the conversation about foreign substances. From just having a little tacky feline your fingers you can control the baseball to now. Actually weaponising spin rate in recent years through the use of analytics pitchers have focused on. How can i get better spin rate. How can they be more efficient with mind mechanics and it's through these foreign substances that they become better and this year the reason why that's important offensive. Numbers are at a record. Low and position players around the sport are effectively revolting leading to this mid season. Change with checking pitchers foreign substance that you've been reporting about garrett cole. The yankees ace pitcher was asked if he's ever used spider tech. I i don't know. I don't know quite. I don't answer that to be honest. I mean there are customs and practices. That have been passed down from older players to younger players from the last generation of players to this generation of players. I found that to be an interesting way. Buster to say yes and i gotta say that as i watched that i was cringing a little bit because i felt like you know what. Let's keep this whole conversation about foreign substance used by pitchers in its proper context. Everybody in baseball has known this has been going on. All the players have known all the coaches all the managers everybody in central baseball. All the empire's have known it's been going on but you get into question the best players in the best pitchers in the sport. Gary cole- trevor bauer. There's so many parallels to what happened with steroids every year. We have the conversation about barry bonds. Roger clemens is if they were the only guys using pd's when in fact we know there were hundreds and thousands. Same thing with this issue. It was sport wide. The question was absolutely fair but remember this has been going on throughout the sport for decades y every single year or so we always have these conversations about major league baseball in everything. Everybody knows right. Whether it's the steroids where the to the astros potentially cheating in in boston allegedly cheating but we act like now. We got the spiders spin spin spider. Whatever the hell they call it attacked y all of a sudden. Now it's coming out to the surface where these things seemed like. It happens is a major problem with major league. Baseball acting like things don't happen. Well the reason why it's coming to the surface is because folks in baseball can't stand the current product that there's not enough offense there's not enough hitting and the position players have been absolutely revolting behind the scenes to the point that a lot of the information that has been collected by central baseball has been video sent in by position players. Saying hey look at what. This guy was doing look where he was hiding the substance in his glove and in fact as we move forward with this. There's actually a central bank of information. It's going to be provided the umpires essentially scouting reports on where pitchers used this stuff. So when they do these random checks they're gonna know where pitchers have been using this in the past. And i think part of the reason why key to get to the real heart of your question. Why do we constantly have this baseball. I think so many times whether it's the steroid issue or whether it's with sign stealing or whether it was with foreign substances me. Central baseball has been slow to act on a problem that everyone knew was percolating below the surface. Are referenced. it and i know that's what garrett as we only played a bit of what he said there but garrett kind of reference the fact that this is something that's been going on for generations it's been passed down these little tricks of the trade and we didn't have the michael pineda thing where he made it just so obvious they had to do something about it. I mean you just leave it right on the hat. Hey everybody got some stubs substance on the hat. But they've always used that reasoning for having something on your fingertips to grip the ball. Oh so i can control the pitch so not gonna hurt anybody so i know where it's going otherwise it can be really dangerous. That's always been the unwritten rule now all of a sudden it's big concern is because that unwritten rule is being abused or is it. Because it's just gotten to that point as you mentioned that the offense now is no longer on level with the pitching right pitchers took it next level when it came to the use of foreign substances. And you're right the reason why gentlemen's agreement and has been in place with managers. Don't check opposing pitchers because everyone knew that. If you had a little sunscreen on your forearm maybe little pine tar you get a tacky feel on the baseball which are smooth coming out of the box. And i've had position player. Say five six years ago..

"Is we have to wear the uniform because they do and mainly paul. that'd be awesome. Stand tom thibodeau. In uniform were the white tights or the black tights. I don't know but please put a shirt on the jersey. God that would be hilarious. They have to do that just watts. And that is funny. Always wonder why baseball did that. And no other sport. Did i know i. Can you think of another sport. That's ever done that and you get like a really older. Like bigger like jack mckeon when he was running out and it's silly uniform and he's like so all arguing with the empire's it looks so funny you know most of the time. Aaron boone's got a pullover on. I'm sure i'm sure he's got the jersey. Yeah he must. I would think that's part of the The sixers hawks tonight philly down one god. Young and the jazz and clippers. Open up their series. The islanders beauty brian. No you are the beat. The bruins five to four. They have a three two series lead. Held them off late There was a big time out that you guys discussed earlier as boston was making a push and a comeback mathew barzal liked the timing of suppressing respond. Take a deep breath and Crowd was going crazy. So it's kind of nice to just leave it at a pressure and they did jordan. Eberle says we're up three too but we've done anything yet. The last ones always artist wanna get but We're excited to to go back to call him. I mean he has seen it allowed. It's been. I mean it helps us to give some juice juice game six wednesday night. Now bruce cassidy. The bruins head coach made headlines by complaining about the officiating. He's not thrilled. I feel the same way in the calls. Exact calls that are getting called on us. Do knock call them. So i i. I don't know why these are very good. Officials are there. Are there at this point in the season for reasons. He says something to me. Varlamov got ran over last night and there was no penalty called. I don't know how many crosschecks have been thrown by both sets of teams and the only two players that have been fined in this series. Have been boston players. Maximum fine by the way because he can't find the more than five thousand dollars won't game six will be tomorrow night at the coliseum. The islanders can close it out with a win. Canadians closed out the jets. They sweep them in four straight three two overtime. So montreal advances mets orioles tonight in baltimore. David peterson bruce. Zimmerman the starters. There you've got jordan montgomery and michael pineda in minnesota yankees take on the twins yankees lost four straight and eight of ten and this is the clip. That ask your question. Okay if if they get swept him in minnesota what happens. Nothing probably nothing happens. They're not firing. Aaron boone in the middle of the season. What do you think they're going to do not going to fire. Brian cashman in the middle. Here's the problem. It's one thing about not hitting that can happen to anybody. It's another thing when you are the worse base running team in frigging baseball and you make mistakes. You know those mistakes and errors and you know and you know. Laziness down the first base..

"What's up kyle excited to talk about. Too bad teams really ed. Hey the yankees aren't necessarily bad but yet kind of looks like that with the way things are going with that team but at least they're above five hundred which is more more than i can say for your twins man at you told me last year like this time last year. I mean that we'd be having baseball for one. But that there'd be a twins yankees game j j. would be one of the pitchers he wouldn't be pitching for the yankees the yankees. It'd be very sad. But that's what the twins do they just constantly pick up the yankees scraps for whatever reason going to tell you what. Karl von had a couple. Good years in minnesota. Karl von no. Of course phil hughes. Michael hughes had a record setting year in minnesota. Your one starting pitcher. Shy of filling. Out starting five of ex yankee starters. We could use a couple more. It's been a long game. Yeah so i mean. We'll we'll spend a little bit of time talking about the twins and and just like why their season has has gone down the drain. And then i do wanna talk to you about some baseball movies. Because i know that that's your forte. But the twins were first place team in two thousand nineteen in two thousand and twenty and what has happened because they were a good team just last year. I mean one of the biggest things is normally to win baseball games. You have to. You have to give up than the other team. And that's been a huge problem for the twins that some some high level baseball thing. But i mean it's been a it's been kind of a comedy of errors in the sense of early in the season. The the offense was going fairly. Well meet byron. Buxton was playing like a top five player baseball. He was incredible. He's still leading the twins in wins above replacement. He's been on the deal for almost a month. I think i think like eight month now. If this point is accounted for two point seven wins above replacement which is crazy. Started a rehab assignment. I think tomorrow day of day were recording. Us him at him. And that's an under a hundred plate appearances which is like next to impossible to do to put up that much worn under a hundred plate parents it's bonkers and it i mean it's it's him hitting two. It's like tapping into all that potential that we really haven't seen except for one half season and then playing typical stellar defense but like in classic buyer books in fashion. Just can't say healthy mean early in the year. The bullpen was a complete mess. Outs call may has just been nothing short of horrible and then you know we were talking about the twins you know. They've kind of made a living on picking up other veteran pitchers off the scrap heap in income into minnesota in having decent years in eating as. We did that with carpenter. We did that with you. Know with phil hughes Michael pineda who's been good this year coming. You know coming back but kenta. My maeda has been really bad before getting hurt You know after last year was incredible. You got cy young votes. Like he was awesome and then jay have hasn't been as bad as the but he's had a couple blow outings that have ballooned it but match. Shoemaker has been horrible. i'm honestly kinda surprised that he hasn't been deified or moved to the bullpen yet. but it just it just been between the starting pitching has been been really bad besides barrios michael pineda and then getting it figured out in the bullpen. That seems to have come on come on lately but now when that's come on lately then suddenly we stopped hitting and then the starting pitching is still bad and then injuries. Which i'm i'm sure you guys have talked about it a lot with the yankees and just baseball general. Like injuries are up. But the twins have you know buxton's on the isle for over a month next kepler's been on the isle has been on the i l. j. caves on the sixty day. I l And then mitch. Garber finally found his way out of the wilderness and then took a. I don't know if you saw that took a nasty a- nasty shot to the groin He is not going to be catching anytime soon. And it's so it's a. It's been a comedy of errors in that regard and so now. You've you're washing team. That's not at full strength. They had all this outfield depth in. Suddenly they're calling in you know guys who are fringed players like gilbert. Oh to play center field when it's like that guys shouldn't be in the big leagues right now. And it's i mean the only person who's having it's a seemingly quality seat nelson cruz is. He's kind of limping around. But he's still hitting Playing well nelson. Cruz just is gonna hit forever. The i don't know if you read the athletic piece about how he keeps his body together and like all the he does for that. And i mean yes. Insert biogenesis joke here but nelson cruz. Does i mean above and beyond to keep himself inch in. it's it's like it's forty size. It's sleep it's diet. it's it's a crazy amount of work. Goes into that his forty years old and his last the this year. One forty three. Oh opium plus last year. One seventy three the year before that one sixty nine the year before that one thirty five the do just parental perennially. An all-star if not mvp it's insane and at this point he's gonna look really good in someone else's uniform here in two months that seat okay. So they're nine games under five hundred. You're you're you're punting. You're giving up so i'm not giving up but we're kinda point i mean. I really think there's no reason to give up until the beginning of july like you. You don't really have to get down to brass tacks in say it's time to sell off until the beginning of july like there. The thing is their biggest chance to turn the season around. Was these past ten games. Because they were against the orioles in the royals. And i think they went six four and you really needed to go. You know seven three eight and two dozen. What does that. How is that different. It's it's a little different you you i mean you need to. You need probably needed ago. Like to or nine and one. I mean mentally i get it like because when i i've this is sort of something that like scott and i talked about all the time and say you pick these mini stretches in a season seagal these next twelve games ten game road trip is super important. They gotta go seven and three and it's like okay. If they went six and four..

Now i'm not saying he's void but Let's wait one weekend to you know. Be doma chris collins. i liked his at bats. He takes pitches in the minors this year. He had more walks than strikeouts. Kind of guy. You want So you know allows digital place second. Which maybe it's not the best idea after tonight. Just kidding but i. I think it's gonna have a nice week. Come up here. It's tough to tough for your. Mlb debut to come against the fucking red sox a lot of pressure in that shit so let them go on the road. A little bit mash against the twins. J. pitching the series coming up here. That'd be nice. I'd love to know no not. I'm saying it'd be nice. He would absolutely shut the yankees down. Well that would be re the rock bottom. Oh we got. The uber. Drivers pitching on tuesday k. He's got a six year this year. Jay half against garrett cole on wednesday. Oh god we pinedo. They are going to lose. That game somehow would be that. Do you wanna talk. Rock bottom the yankees. Losing that game really is going to be rock bottom. And i'm not even saying they will lose that game and then michael pineda will beat them to five six uber driver. J up and michael pineda. Let's just get that thought and our minds who are ready to deal with in case it does happen okay. so j. hop through may fourth at a one nine one era his starts since then three and a third nine hundred runs against the white sox three and two thousand. Six hundred runs against the white sox. Six innings four runs against cleveland. Five sixty runs against casey five five hundred casey's areas now five six one If we don't get jay how we don't just rock. Jay happened wednesday. I will say if there's ever like if there's no more perfect team for the yankees to play in the minnesota twins. You wanna talk about the perfect cure for a for a struggling team. The yankees see the twins. Get to town. It doesn't matter who's on what team those uniforms matchup. It should be sweep if the yankees. That's one will really know. I mean they're in trouble no matter what but if the yankees can't even if this yankee team can't even beat the twins something every yankee team in history has been able to do than we really need we really really really earned-run wednesdays starts are really circle not even just. Because it's jay happened left. The yankee should crush him but The whole garrett cole. Josh donaldson saga. That's brewing right now. Where donaldson on friday Made note that kohl's rpm's spin rate. Were down like two hundred or whatever and his last start in. This is ever since it'll be said they're gonna start cracking down on you know the the sticky stuff. Trevor bauer today. He was down as well. And some interesting quotes after the game. But when donaldson's facing garrett cole wednesday that should be very interesting we'll be. I'm not paying too much attention to that yet because i love yard coal and i think he's a great pitcher no matter what it would really be unfortunate if like. He can't use the sticky stuff anymore and he reverts back like pittsburgh garrett like pretty good pittsburgh coal that would be unfortunate. I can't even think about that right now. But i'm prepared for all the worst things in the world. I think the days of cy young like the twenty eight twenty nineteen where he just was unflattering believable garrett cole. I think that's probably gone. But he still very good on because of the sticky stuff or yeah. I i guess like everyone. Everyone's using it. It was just like it wasn't being enforced. Why not use it. You'd be it'd be a fool not suit but now they're gonna gonna enforce the shit we'll see enforce it. They said. I think they're going to say it's certainly a week's time. Whatever and patriots gonna be checked twice a game and all that listen whatever. We're not gonna hit because his these batches. These bats aren't hitting because of that. It's it's just it but it's something to monitor but the whole wednesday beer covers donaldson on. I'm looking forward to have that one circles for sure but like you. I'm not making any judgment. 'cause garrett cole had he he didn't get rocks in his last start he gave up a few blue pits. He got death by blue pits some days. You're not you're sharpest. I think he'll be completely fine. I can't afford our mental health cannot afford even bring it up. Like don't even don't even. I'm not i'm not even thinking about it And a lasting. Well britain here. I feel like this week if not next week. Look void is running. They think he's a couple of weeks away. Seems like a quicker. Return than i thought. Corey kluber which place in the sixty day. I l to make room for giddens. But he's throwing so. But you're still probably an all-star break little maybe a little bit after that for him. Luis severino pitcher tampa today. I believe it was two and two thirds wanted run three strikeouts. He was sitting at ninety eight miles an hour consistently excellent sign. Sevi- back ninety eight ninety nine. Great love that don't know what exact role he's going to have with. The team probably will be depending on..

"Catch it with the catch him with on him. It's got to be red handed. Michael pineda situation just like michael. Pineda those of you. That don't know or remember michael. Pineda was caught with pine tar in andorra pine tar like substance on his neck in two thousand fourteen games pitch before that it was on his arm. Wasn't it was not even sneaky about this thing. This is the thing. Is that pitchers get away with this. All the time like this goes on all the time everybody knows. And it's one of those things where it's like as long as you're not blatant about it and do you know how they do k. So you get guys like yadi. Molina had the ball stick to his chest protector. Yeah put it on chess protect. Your wife's his hand takes the ball goes back to the pitcher infielders see on their hips. All the time pine tar a lot of guys have gloves off our pint on gloves Right so they just wipe their hands on it when they go to throw the ball they they get the pie on the ball. These give back to the pitcher. I wondered that's worth throwing the ball round came from who i've never and actually thought about douglas. Now really they're like well he can have. We all can't let's just throw it around. Wipe it up. Yeah dude. I'll bet that's exactly. What is i have no doubt now. Because that's that is such an old school way to cheat. Yeah they said they said he can have. This had never say anything about us. Let's help them out. That's like we were talking about the easter egg hunt right. Have in your basket. He didn't say anything about my pockets. My aunts pretty cool so that's cool theory. I like that law. We'll see. I don't know maybe it's absurd throwing the ball game room. Yeah but let's get into injury watch. Twenty twenty watt boban. and anyway. let's jump into this. Dexter fowler tore his all out to give you do que fin- so brig was through some just looking through some stuff and He found an interesting trend. There are a lot of guys who were hurt right now like a lot. I think what he started thinking. There's just the yankees. Just kind of looking around and i started came across the dexter. Fowler thing you get into and then just kind of went down a little bit of a radical exactly well if so you can't argue with the dexter fowler thing the fernando tat tease junior thing so i saw those and then we all know yankees mash unit. Already it's just awful. So i i did. I went down the line. And this is what i started discovering so dexter fowler is not the only one anthony ran is also another big name from the angels. That is not playing right now. He's got a growing thing. Christian yelich left. Today's game sunday. Were at sunday right now. So he left sunday's game with back soreness that led me to learn that the l. a. dodgers have ten players on the injured list. Right now to include. Mookie betts cody bellinger. Tony kahn's And this is a hard name for me but bruise dr grabher all also on the i l. and left saturday's with a biceps strain. This is why that's a problem. He is one hundred thirty one hits away from three thousand hits and he's only twelve homers away from five hundred now. Those are like immortal numbers. Yeah i don't think it's going to keep them from getting their stephanus long down It might be. I mean if it ended lingering code.

"In general like any mba city. And i feel like just again from my vantage point kind of an outsider. Looking in cashman isn't quite held in that regard is that like because he has the open checkbook or am i misreading it is. He'd actually held in like or do or do yankee fans want him like you on the way out. No i think yankee fans are are cash. You get your your your your little side arguments against him on you. You could talk about the fact that when he trades for pitching. It's not usually done in a way. That works out for the yankees. He's had opportunities to to really make his mark on the pitching side of things through via trade and hasn't really found that way in fact he's had a pretty terrible traits but there's been some good good stuff that's how well do you have a worst one is. There's a couple worst ones. Yeah the the off the top of my head. So the michael pineda for. Hey zeus monteiro. Tara was a big. Was the number one prospect coming up at a time where there aren't very many good prospects for the ease. Catcher prospect was a catcher. Yup but some say he. He's probably better to be at the end of his career. He was fighting ice cream. Guys in the in the in the stands like that. That was the relationship when you went to seattle but that was for michael pineda. It didn't work out on either side of it But you look at some of the sunny graze another really just. It just didn't work out but you look at what they gave up for him. It really wasn't anything that amounted anything else on the outside so he's just missed on some but there's also been some some good position players and also i don't think across baseball the when you look at the. Gm's there's as much like you know. I don't think it's looked in the same light in in In baseball as it is in basketball. I feel like the basketball fan. The hardcore basketball fans like very much. What's happening on all the other teams whereas baseball. You could be a hardcore baseball fan and had given city and really just not have a full landscape of what's happening across the league so many teams so many games. I don't think it's as much. I think brian cashman among gm's has one of the best reputations and has You know a solid reputation across baseball for sure and he came up with you know under jeans thick michael who was the architect of those nineties teams. So there's there's a there's a or organizational. He started as an intern. Like he's got the story that came up through the yankees and he's been there through the good times and yet this this law since two thousand nine but i think he's got a very good reputation overall. Yeah thank you indra. Who just looked it up. So cash technically took over in ninety eight but he was like you said he was in the organization before that. So it's interesting because he came up like in the midst of the championships but they weren't his teams that he built so really he only has one. Is that how it's looked at by yankee fans. He only one. Let's only one is really his championship or is that not how people say. Well i think the early teams for sure. We're stick michael. Everybody kind of understands. Michael was a big reason. Why those teams were put together in the way that they were so so. Yeah you look at the you know. Some of the bigger moves that that cashman made You know looking at when when she came over and you know they. They've really made a run their mcken These were that's that's a big legacy for him and he needs to back it up for sure and with this young crop of talent. That's why everybody at this point now. They're getting older. We're getting out of arbitration. We're about ready to either x offer large contracts to these guys or not. They got a win. This is a two year window for for the next for for brian cashman and for boon Because they have this talent. Ready to go Aaron boone is good manager. It depends who you ask. He's he's he's fine he doesn't do any heat. I don't think the i think at this point in baseball. A lot of these guys are such relationship driven managers. There's so many decisions being made in the in the the with the nerds we say in the tunnel these all the stats are being a really. You know making these decisions for these guys who are influencing them in a heavy way so you look at what the actual impact of guy is when you're and you to me. I go to the playoffs. I started looking at these big games and understand like okay. Do you have a pulse guys. Ready to come out with you. Are you looking at just numbers. Look at black La- last year with kevin cash Pull in Pulling blake stolen in game six. When he was ready to go he was cruising and he was at a specific pitch count in an inning and he pulled them. Because that's what they do the matter. There's no test is just what they do. And i think there's too many of these guys that that unfortunately fall under that that path and boone's trying to establish himself as a guy that you can make these decisions. And i think he's getting better at it but i think that he's gotta be..

Sometimes i wonder how ebay stays in business and the reason is is because they offer everything literally if you wanna get an underground or underwater typewriter. If you want to send them back you gotta pay fifteen dollars for the for the label. Ano- by the way it takes a month to get to both both come on How fun all right major league baseball has issued a memo to all thirty teams regarding the use of foreign substances on. Baseball's this comes from the new york. Post joel sherman. Saw this first rule. Six six dot o. To see reads that a pitcher shall not expect rate on the ball either hand or his glove. That would be what we call spitting. Don't spit in the ball. Rub the ball on his glove person or clothing a ply. A foreign substance of any kind threw the ball. Deface the ball in any manner or deliver. A ball altered in a manner prescribed by rule. Six point zero two paragraph see article two through five. What is called shine ball. Spitball mud ball emory ball. The pitcher is allowed to rub the ball between his bare hands and finally have on his person. Pitcher is not allowed to have on his person or in his position. Any foreign substance rule six pepsi article seven comment. The pitcher may not attach anything to either hand any finger or either risk for example band aid tape superglue bracelet etc. The umpire shall determine if such attachment is indeed a foreign substance for the purpose of rule. Six point zero two c seven but not as may the pitcher be allowed to pitch let such attachment to his hand. Finger or a wrist dow. Why is this news. Isn't this the same thing that has been in the rules forever. Now if you used to be that if you went to your mouth with your hand on the mound. It was an automatic Bach or if there was no one on base it was automatic ball. I see pitchers lick their fingers. All the time on the mountain they used to say you could blow into your hand so like on a hot day or a cold day. You'd see the pitcher make a fist. Put it up to his lips. Go f- what's that for. Well it's not really blowing. He's going by getting a little spin in there. But why is this new like if there are obvious violations. The pitchers generally get caught. And probably the most recent member michael pineda on the yankees mariner. He had a big patch of pine tar on his neck. At least some people throw away amri boards and things but there's been a lot of less obvious examples to and like i said. We know the nudge nudge wink. Wink not notably photograph photograph. We know what it is. But judging from this memo. Mlb sick of it. why now. Why are they sick of it now. Sounds like when the lake great joe. Morgan sent a letter all hall of fame voters. Please do not vote for cheaters. Please like okay but this. I don't know this seems like it's kind of out of a blue now. Also laid out in the league's memo. Is that there will be compliance officers in the clubhouse clubhouses dugouts tunnels and pretty much everywhere. A pitcher could go to try and apply like pine tar to the inside of his illegal. Also take balls out of play and conduct inspections of the baseball via a third party lab..

"Cashman would give them a yes or no but that's the thing they're not giving us contracts out. I mean look look look at jay. Bruce signed a minor league deal for one point three with incentives. You have to make the team. They're not getting that you know. What am i big points looking at those and he's younger to taper says younger looking at looking at those middle mid thirty guys outfield. There's those veteran guys were floating around. They're just not valued anymore at all. Every single team would prefer to go and and have a young guy that's controlled cheap all and and younger with a of side way. More than than jay. Bruce or record. I don't brick. He doesn't bring a lot of value to any team. Unless you're a competitor and even then at this point are you still looking for a guy like brett gardner. If you're if you're a team that's competing. I could see the red sox signing brett gardner because they just traded benintendi so they have. I know they have for do go. They have a couple of the people in their outfield. But i could see them doing that. Just like an f you to the yankees. Yeah well maybe we'll see if it depends on much brecqhou. No must keep playing baseball. And if if what about the raise the other hold on the other option for him is that he stays in shape he he's he's the guy first one to chopping wood. He's chopping chopping wood. He's gonna be on the farm shopping would but if he doesn't get an opportunity that he's excited about. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the roster at some point during the season. So i said this like a month ago i could see i could see him fitting on the race roster maybe i mean they plug in everything so who knows. They're adding veteran. It seems like they're adding more veteran players every day. to fill in gaps in into throw shit at the wall. Also maybe couple guys. That they signed also robinson's torino's former astros former battery mate with gear cold not his personal catcher. When i first heard the news is like we did with that was that as personal catcher. No it was not. I was excited to watch these. Marge salt and auto. I was very excited. Watch you lose your shit but it was not not the same guy. This was torino's who things just don't affect me anymore. Scott i got. I got a kid i got. I got bigger fish to fry right. It's a it's a it's a little click that just goes off immediately So robert torino's really is a depth piece here to me not much to see. It's just a a veteran guide. Debt that you may or may not be there. He could be. What is this five other veteran guys. That i do have. I do have a thought on this though because because torino's was a starting quote unquote catcher on a world series caliber astros. He was the he was the main catch on the astros. Do you know what is this move for is because they don't believe in figgy as much as we were led to believe this because is this because they have an extra roster spot or two extra roster spots rate for the new rules and they they have the luxury of carrying a third catcher if they need it and this gives extra insurance for maybe if gary sanchez just sucks again and they just. They need more catching that they have this luxury now. I think it speaks. Way more to gary sanchez than it does hagi. I don't think it says anything about hagi. I think it says everything about gary sanchez. Ed they need some kind of an insurance to note to be ready if he does come out of the gate slow and it's not something they're willing to put up with or or you know deal with for an extended period of time. I think it's an insurance policy. I think it's definitely it's signing aircraft. It's a the yankees are. They need depth on our catching In their catching position especially a guy that now has a relationship that has experience with colt. That's not a bad thing. So i think that's it was really just depth mover here. The other move is justin. Wilson is back in the bronx after a couple of this. Move a couple years with The mets pitch. Well two point nine one a twenty six percent strikeout rate With the mets terms are undisclosed. So far i haven't seen the money of. But i imagine this is a guarantee a guarantee very close to what bruce if he makes the squad. I definitely see just making the major league roster and i'm sure there's some bonus incentives along with that as well but already some some intriguing stat stat. Cast doubt on him. Exit velocity ninety sixth percentile hard. Hit percentage ninety second percentile expected weighted on base average seventy fifth percentile. Expected the ira seventy fifth percentile. Batting seventy percentile expected slugging eighty first percentile. Those are all good numbers. All top of like top twenty five percent or better of the league and for relief pitcher. Who's going to be relied on to pitch. Maybe the six seventh-inning come in to get a couple tough left. He's out in the eighth inning. I love it. This is this is exactly the signing that they needed. They needed to make to give more insurance to this pitching staff. So let's let's recap what happened so far in the bullpen with With the the deal that cashman gets a lot of flack for what he does with the pitching staff. I probably not as much in the rotation bullpen has always been history. So looking at justin wilson. A guy that's been on the team before you know. Louis sessa was Was was part of the deal. Shane shane green yet. Went to the tigers and justin wilson in. Yeah i think it was. I think it was lewis. Who came back. the when. You're looking at at justin wilson. Coming in left handed reliever you look at darren. Day right handed side side swine. Learned a guy. Nobody wants to face doesn't matter what side of the The boxer inside of the plate. You're in trading vino and his entire contract to the red sox and you're replacing him essentially with these two guys for a fraction of the price again. We don't know what the justin wilson deal is yet. I have not seen it. But i can't imagine it's anywhere over two million dollars probably under two million. That's that's i mean. Just just just swap justin wilson for atom of and to me. It's an upgrade. Your adding d'arno day now a as another piece that that gives you just a different option. A different look out the pen. I like what they've done. Plus you adding the young guys With you know a good amount of upside. I like it. I make i mix these trades up. So the yankees acquired wilson wilson from the pirates in two thousand fourteen for francisco survey. Yes then in two thousand after the two thousand fifteen season. They traded wilson to the tigers for lewis. Sessa green right. That's a. Shane greene was different. Trade entirely with the tigers was shingling. Potentially in that curtis granderson. I feel like he might have been in the curtis granderson trade. But anyway you got chad. Green and louis sesa for wilson like tigers pride kicking themselves about that so speaking of winning trades. That's a. That's that's brian cashman. Bullpen trade. all day but not so much in the rotation that's where the that's where the criticism has always come in paxton. Now it's official. The cycle has closed eight point. Five million dollar deal with the mariners. He's back in seattle. He's got bonuses including this deal. That could make it worth over ten million bucks so the seattle mariners are now walking into a season with both james paxton and justice sheffield in their starting rotation and the yankees are are left holding and they're holding. Their shange is in their hand. So can we just be done with dealing with the mariners that doesn't seem to want to trade for any more pitching from the mariners. They try to michael pineda. That actually was the best one that worked out but it didn't really work out. They tried to require quick cliff. Lee back in the day. It didn't work out the mariners this this whole thing with sheffield and like i'm done. Acquiring pitching from the mariners go do something else. Just go to a different. Well pleased because i'm sick of drinking this shitty water from seattle seattle people hate you too so the the thing is is yes cashman's looking at this deal now and it didn't work again injuries on.

"Who is going to move the needle on on a world's reminding adding yet but that doesn't again that doesn't go back to your world series point. Depths doesn't get you a championship maybe not especially when the regular season has been you. It's been maybe. He made a practically irrelevant. Death doesn't get you have to make the splash move. You gotta you gotta make the guy you gotta eat impact player. That's gonna shove so. Then that's a trade trade or at signing trevor. Bauer like those are the impact moves. There's no other impact move on the market right now unless there's a trade for somebody that we just don't know maybe they're going after custodio for from from cincinnati like that to me is potential. You know work around where we're cashman's gotten get inflexible with the with the money that a move like that would not surprise me at all. No but i also would fear. That's just another. James paxton another. You can all you want. But that's that's going for an arm that is a top-flight arm it. I'm nina another knock him for for going after a guy lada they. I guess you gotta keep going back to the well. That's the only way to succeed at it. You gotta keep trying to keep throwing your darts all right. You're happy that his back. Obviously i'm happy that limit his back. Obviously they needed him in this lineup. Desperately i still think the lineup needs to get more diverse. So clint frazier baby here. We go that frazier's my guy. My new happy friday. Everybody hope you enjoyed this news. Hope enjoyed this episode. We'll be back at some time mid next week. Submit your mailbag questions and all that kind of good stuff. Anything else you wanna say. You can't close every episode now with signed digital. May maybe you wanna say sign more pitching. Get more pitching No i mean look. I'm to be honest. I talked to my just talked myself into waiting and looking at what the market is or just. Yeah let's make a trade. I'm ready for cash. Go cash and watch. Here's what i here's. Here's a breakdown. Brian cashman is on a mission now to redeem his name in acquiring a pitcher. He's he's going after that guy to shut everybody up to put a put a little bow on his legacy to win a world series and acquire the pitcher that gets them to that point via trade dossier the one black mark on his resume. It is and the fact that he needs another world series so you could put two under. He needs another world series. That's really his construct. He needs a world series. That's his construction and not a- prior Gm's construction if he goes out acquires an arm that helps them win a world series legacy cemented of course also because they in theory would also be players like aaron judge and labor torres and all the other people that brian cashman was responsible for acquiring contributing to that world series whereas ninety eight ninety nine two thousand that was all the the stick michael era that set that up and even two thousand nine i mean the core four was all still bear. Brian cashman signed see samatha and mark teixeira. I could've done matt through wanna cash people. Yeah he went out and made those that being said this is this is the there are opportunities out there. I believe there are opportunities within baseball. That he can go out and acquire. Somebody that's controllable. That will hit a bunch of the objectives of. They're looking for and give the yankees a much better to win a world series. And like you said that's that's it. That's the number one thing when a world series top-flight arms guys who can shove bats down people's throat in that's what we need. He tried it with jeff. Weaver didn't work out. He tried it with michael. Pineda didn't work out. He tried to james. Paxton didn't work out. He tried it with nathan of all the didn't work out. Sonographic time charm tried it with sonny gray. Didn't work out six.
