Alfonso Ribeiro twists our brains on golf

"All right folks are joined by a very special guest. Alfonso Ribeiro Big Time Golf Guy so you just walked into Barcelo. Hq I Kind of impressions walking into Barstool checking on her office. All new. I mean the last time to Barstool it was like a it was literally did not look like this. How about we go there? We just going to be pleasant. It was It was an office been was like just not really new new. Feels like a little bit of a facade like this nice and like state of the art and it's not really us just put snow it it did you listen. Everybody needs to go to work and feel like they're going to a nice place. Okay you know what I mean you can talk about whatever you want. It's gotta you'll nice going to work today. What he's saying is the last place was a dump and couldn't believe that he was brought there and that that he likes plays a lot more? I'M GONNA go with the last part of that. Okay because speaking to work got a couple of things going on a couple of things on funniest video absolutely how you know so like the greatest Family show in American television history. Right like its thirtieth season iconic for the Shell my fifth season as the host. And like what's better than watching people do really dumb stuff stuff hurt themselves but what Asta laugh at them by sending us the video so you get the approval of them to laugh at them and and we get to laugh over and over and over again. And I get to go to work and I actually one of the things that I'll do is so I typically have to do the voice overs for all the videos at that net. Need my voice over. Okay okay but I won't watch any of the ones that I don't have to do voice over on so that when I'm actually at the taping and I enjoy them for the first time you're right at the tapings aping and I'm like this way. It's like it feels less like work right. You go to go and it was like wow didn't see that one and can laugh and have a great time so I actually enjoy the taping and as much as the audience gets to do you ever slip up like Oh shit. It's just a good at that because kids so I've learned how not to allow that slip to come out. I always say I know my audience and when I'm when I'm there I'm pretty good at making sure that because we have some kids in the audience. I've become America's Dad. There have to be very responsible. It's amazing my gallstone hasn't made it onto that show yet. It just put it out with. Just keep sending US videos. We'll get it on you get one with a wedge in its everyone's laugh back actually on on Sunday eh the. At and T. I actually wanted to see whether someone got one of my swings on video. 'cause it absolutely would make it onto my show where where it was on. The fourteenth holds a par-five long par five and I'm trying to like possibly see whether I can get there in two so I'm really really digging into one and my right foot completely slips out onto downswing I'm talking airborne it's completely gone right and I still hit the ball but I was on one leg almost down on the ground and I actually hit the ball. So the two the pros and the group because my pro was Kevin Na right and the other the pro is j b Holmes and both of them were like in they were shell shocked because they were like okay. Are you all right. And I'm like and I'm walking gingerly because I'm like I don't know if I'm alright yet Then they go. How did you make contact right like? How did you literally literally you were falling down and you still hit the ball on an ethnic? I like that things eh but it really was. I said to everybody the gallery. WHO's watching anybody? Get that on tape tape. So you're good player. You're scratch. Is that right well. They had me as a three okay. So so you've played golf in some in some big circles right so you're Alphonso Ribeiro your but at the at and T. Pablo pro-am pro-am it's it's TV it's legitimate PJ toward crowds. What's kind of your nerve level on the first tee? You're on the seventeen. Maybe more conic shot. What's your nerve you know? There's probably only one shot at Pebble Beach that I am fearful of It's the second shot on eight right light. That is the only shot where you're like. Okay I don't have this. This is GonNa talk to me about it and we follow him about it and play the whole Goddamn golf course. You know it's a train wreck where we can't bring one hundred none of us for playing in a couple of weeks for the US Open. He's trying little fairy on a in Richmond right flying on a on the fly right behind the flag as for Mr Berry missed. The net. Green is great work. It was great because and I was on my way to triple digits so of course I'm walk through seven holes. Okay you knew where this round was. Nobody's lying along the best part of that is your only through seven holes right this aide whole and you haven't even gotten to the teeth of the golf course you know. That's the easy part of the grass. You get one two three four or five. You're like Ooh and you're doing like if I par in I can shoot ninety uh-huh and you're not going to say the only confident walk. I had all day was walking up to the Green on eight. I had my shoulders up is in my head was held high and I felt good but the rest of the day absolutely you know we had a twenty five mile. An hour rose wind no going from left to right right into the water. Yeah not good. So it's one of those shots where you're like. Okay where am I aiming. That's far let's into I can play it from the left rough. Can't play that from the Pacific. No right you know I was I was left. What's what's the dichotomy like with if the pros and you've got you know the guys played different? teases it awkward at all. No it's it's I'll say this like they're I'm sure there are groups and I've heard many stories the of playing in groups where because it's too amateurs into prose where guys really are not enjoying playing with those amateurs and there are guys on tour who alike I am not playing the. At and T.. I can't stand it like it's just playing with the amateurs but like this group that we had this year which was my self with with Kevin A- and then it was Michael Pena with a guy named Martin trainer. Right and Michael the opinion I are pretty much the same for even though he was getting seven shots. I was getting three but we when we play at home. We are about the same so when you play with guys. We're actually indecent golfers right. Then it's not bad because he's not like all right. Let's go look for his ball. Not that right. The flow of the game feels like it's just a normal for some going out to play and it's not so bad for them. Because I even sent cavanaugh a text message yesterday kind Hannah saying you know a dude. Thanks for an amazing week. We made the cut. We finished nineteenth right like out of one hundred and fifty six teams. That was awesome. He was in there grinding. Like trying to get the team to to to make the cut and you know it was just a really really enjoyable week and he was like dude. Thank you for being the way you were because you knew when to talk and make it light but you also knew when to leave me alone right. Let me have of my space when I needed it and I'm good at that like I'm the dude in the group who's like we're not talking to him some people don't that'll that I'm not going to be the one to tip it. Everyone feels they look at Jon Rahm by the way sitting at dinner. Just don't go near him. L. People for one degrees. That's his nickname like but you know but that's what I was doing you know. That's but that's what happens when it's guys who know how to play golf right who play golf and been in that circumstance stands. This is my fifth year the. At and T.. I've been up at the American Century Tournament now for maybe fourteen fifteen years I get it like I get how to play golf in front of people. It doesn't affect me right like you asking the question earlier like does it like. Does it affect you. Like going to that I T- I have no nerves. Did it affect you. I the first time I absolutely. Yeah but now it's like maybe maybe after like the fourth or fifth time playing in one of those like bigger tournaments after that I was like I. Nobody cares correct right like we all have this thing in our minds that like. I'm going to go embarrass myself. I'm like no not you know why because I'm so much better than the audience sitting there watching me play golf that they're impressed even if I hit a bad. That shot hit that bad shot right so I'd look at it like oh well they don't care whether I play well or not. I care whether I play well or not. Well well I know that if I'm in the moment and I'm actually all messed up about it but I'm not gonNA play. Well right I gotta get into the same space where I've had some of my best rounds and all of my best rounds of been when I'm like. Yeah whatever you gotTa Find Your Happy Place Right just like you're not caring right. The moment you care is the moment you get tents the moment your tents is the worst Gulf swing right. So I've certainly got myself to where I can just kind of be in the moment I want you know. Pick a target small targets right. No no no. Don't hit over there to the right. No pick a target hit the target. Don't worry about anything else. You're not gonna hit it there anyway. But at least you're gonNA you're GonNa make a good solid swing with the right effort by familiar with the exact opposite approach of that on the TV. You got a couple of groups backed doc. You know and you're standing in for wherever you think that they care a lot about how your shot goes right. You're standing the biggest fair way in the world and you're just like all right there's OB forty yards left. You can't it'll be and meanwhile correct just pick a small targets a giant fairway even a decent drive. You'll have a good approach. NOPE bodies a train wreck. You don't know how does golf club you're thinking. Oh Oh my God I saw. Nobody cares their phone there and watch it right. Well I I became friendly with Justin rose and he has a putting guru right who works with okay and this. This guy gave our whole little group when when we were all together Some information is called C.. Burn right and I was like okay. Okay well it's a putting thing where if you put a ball on the ground and if you move that ball quickly you're going to see what looks like a burn of a ball on the grass right and I was like what is that like why he goes. Your brain doesn't understand no or don't write. It only understands what it saying doing. So don't hit it left. Your brain heard hit it left right so there's no don't yeah it doesn't it doesn't recognize. Don't right it only recognizes do. Yeah so people say. Don't move your head you're moving your head right. What this guy is saying is his see the burn? If you see the burn you didn't move your head. It has to be an active positive. Thought not a negative thought because there's is no way that your brain understands the negative thought. Why do you always hit it in the water when you look at water if you have to hit the ball over the water like all right? Don't hit it into water. You're the water. Your brain doesn't understand. Don't you have to just don't even worry about the water. See the target and hated at your target. So it's a mental exercise absolutely but it but it becomes a physical thing because see the burn. You didn't move your. I can't tell you over

Can you think that's going to hurt him? Like what happened to Dez Bryant? Like, he, you know, he sat out for the majority. But I think look Killys pops on people who practice every week and he'd pop on people who haven't played in a while and Levy on bell. That is going to be a fascinating conversation of what happens when he it's free agency. And what he's going to look like next year. It's a conversation. That's gonna die down now. But pop up again once the season's over and be dominant for two thousand nineteen it's going to be dominant. Like what? No, I think the storyline will be dominant. "This Friday on Netflix, and we'll get there in a second. Are you saying Michael pain, you that for all of those of a certain age? Right. Rooting for tiger right now. Right to cap his resurgence. It is nothing to do with tiger. But everything to do with a psychological avoidance of a mid life crisis for I I mean. mean what you're saying. I would take the average body fat percentage and think that it's probably around twenty most fans. Rickie Fowler fans clo- like in the teens. Okay. Who's got the leanest body fat of anybody of fan base right now. I I'm going to say, obviously, all of the the Rickie Fowler. Because there's a lot of kids that might have minus body fat. I don't know my son. Okay. Guys dressing up in all orange. They, you know, they don't know tiger. And I asked with hesitant s-. What about the Phil Mickelson fan base? Did he has he has a dad Bod right now? And he's on tour. I think I I think John Daly probably has she's the other dailies on one extreme tease on the extreme Tigers tiger's like all the all the fortysomethings Anders Shaath lease on another on the other extreme or something Downey zander's awfully okay? He's not dot Bettman, dad Bod. No. He's kid Bod these kids all the young guys. You know, the guys they're all they're all in their twenties. Now before you get to talking about your your your new show, narcos Mexico. You want you need some help. You told me backstage that you need some help fantasy football see football. It's like, I can't even imagine what your job is. Like like, you know, there's a there's a couple of shows that are just entirely fantasy is true. You know, lady on bell. I like a lot of guys picked him. I did take living on the. No, I didn't. I, you know, this was the first time. They oughta drafted just wasn't able to to to busy. You're busy, man. Yeah. I was in a plane. I guess that was a movie moon by Mumbai Dubai than ear. Okay. Yeah. Wow. It's like twenty hours of flying. Damn. Yeah. So, of course, your auto picking out of picking so what what's your current predicament? So here's the thing. I'm like I picked up taking your phone away. What's the name your team? I the only thing that keeps me close to to to America. I guess. Okay. So what about Ryan Fitzpatrick? I got its magic you get fits magic. I got z q Elliott. Okay. Okay. I got Richard and a running back. But I got Michael Thomas from New Orleans the guy catches. So he's great. My got Mike Evans, and then I got Zach ertz tied-in. He's actually crushing killing it right now. Right. Uh-huh. On this is an auto draft. This oughta Jeff these guys you picked up Ryan Fitzpatrick though, right? I picked up Ryan Fitzpatrick picked up Richard. I picked up Kuti. Ok tedi. I don't know. How you call? It up. Right. Did have fuller before he got hurt. He was off the waiver wire as well. And then you know defense, but I think what's your what's your team name Apache butter knife a patch? Okay. Does is it sounds tough. But it's not a patchy butter knife. "One of narcos, Mexico, streaming this Friday, the Michael pain, a good to see you, sir. But also welcome to this program. And I've really enjoyed your your work throughout the years. Please to have you here. So you are as I could tell the way you were rolling it on our Calloway corner. Surface, your golf guy. Yeah. I'm huge golf guy. And I you know, I'm used to like putting with a bit naughty putter. You know what I mean, they're like face balanced or whatnot? Okay. So you had a he'll be switched to the mallet, which was pretty nice look at you. Yeah. So you're putting snow is what you're saying. No. I mean, this huge part of the game in like you can drive it really long. But I just you know, I'm setting one of those things up in my house. Hopefully, are you saying that you putt for dough? Michael pain. I tried to do dry for show. I do not dry for show those. I've played with Tony few now. And that guy's just do it. So far. Now, I mean fee now fee now for me, okay? Out of everybody that that plays. I've never seen. What happened with him in the par-three and the masters where he holds out celebrates dislocates his ankle. And then damn they weren't suggested. Anyway. Yeah, exactly. That's unbelievable tenth place of one foot. But I you know, I went to Utah. I'm friends with a bunch of those guys in Utah and I- imitated the the ankle break a little bit. How does one imitated ankle brick ally? Basically, I loosened my shoes, and then I you know, I was pretending to you know, because he has a really short swing and then just want. But as you have a sense of humor about it is it's not too soon rate says humor, they were you know, they're busting each other's chops. Like, it was him and Cameron champ. Who's new on the tour was like just crushing it? I think he's got there's one dry before hundred thirty yards. Him Boyd summer Hayes, so Johnson. Who's of course, play of course. Yeah. So are you saying Michael pain? You are you giving strokes. The course when you not. No, no. You're not plowing like, I'm like, no, I'm like five handicap, it's hard to be like a good. Plus, I'm a Hollywood five, which means did you just say the words only only? Yeah. I mean, come on look me in the face. I got buddies like Scott would for instance, you know, he's like they're all like in Oliver Hudson. They're all scratch, or plus the actor all of our Hudson is he's a stick, man. He can really play. Yeah. Okay. So you're you're only five under. But no, no, no. I'm like five handicapped, you know, like, okay. So you're so you're only so when you're playing with these guys these professionals, I mean, can you hang with them? They flipped you some strokes and you little bit. But I played like two weeks ago. I played with Tommy Emmer the third he's on the champions tour. He a-3. Yeah. I shot the best round. That I that. I haven't a while. It was over he shot an easy sixty five like on seven-under like five seven hundred some isn't it amazing the difference? When you're at that level is is is the Potter. I totally is that it is. Also, you know for guys like me. It's also the, you know, the driver and like everything else because they they're just so consistent. They drive it down. You know, it's amazing thrown darts. I remember when I when I was on sportscenter years ago and the Greater Hartford Open was played later. The street open HBO was was no at the time the TPC in Cromwell, Connecticut. Right. So we would be standing there on the seventeenth fairway. Just being my buddies watching. Everybody drive it to the same spot. You could see there was like a lazy? There was like a twenty square foot area. Where all these divots of everybody hitting the approach shot pretty much. Same spot. Yeah. And then the question was how close could they throw the dart to the whole over the water, and who would be the one close enough to just make gimme pot. And that was the difference as to who did well on the seventeenth hole. Yeah. Exactly. What's what's funny, especially about live professional golf is that it seems like they just press the start button like this machine. Just propels the golf ball, and they don't swing. They don't swing his heart..

"So why wouldn't you wanna just do that yourself right there? Man, the cat may I talk hockey for second people on Twitter, eleven the hockey talk. Are they really are the lease looked really good? They looked tremendous struggling indications are definitely struggling kings are struggling I was right there on the glass. We do have video of me flinching is Patrick Marlowe was direction stone, Eric Stonestreet of modern family who seats they were. He he flinched too. And he he's not a shame. You know, didn't flinch three seats to the left white hat guy. White how you showed a video of the white hat guy who did not flinch with the boards being an because it didn't go in his Marla didn't go right in front of him with his son sitting his his, right? I think I'd hood white hat was triple G O. Triple jelly Canetti Gluskin interesting. Did you we chatted jail. Did you drop the Andre ward? I did not say Andre ward called you out on my show last week. You seem like a very nice guy. Ten photographs with everybody. Everybody would see him and tell him he's the real champ alike that all of them like that all of them. They're right him the real channel somebody's walking by screams. Your to know is what they said. And they're not wrong. And I soon again, that's not his overall record. That's his would be record or Alvarez should be right. Uh-huh. That's what. Everyone screaming at him. But are you know, Eric Stonestreet? And I definitely did. Also, notice something. His hands were particularly well manicured. Oh, yeah. There were no it. He looked like he did not hit people for a living. You know, it looked like he had there know calluses. There was no nothing is. I mean a perfect manicure perfect. I guess you gotta take care of your hands. Yeah. Look like hand model like stands like Costanza was not walking around with with. Although it was cold enough for it on the ice. But triple g. With right there, man. Flinch? He didn't flinch at all. I can't imagine any would he there was no flinching there. But triple g taking in the king's losing to the leaf it was five one when we left was that the final score. I don't even know check. I don't know as five one final kings juggle. But I definitely just looking up around Taylor. I mean, Taylor swift is more banners hanging at non basketball events. Than the clippers. They got to hang something up. Right. But why they what we going full colts and be like playoff appearance. We have Jerry West. We have. Is the big banner of the logo of the NBA logo. What would they would do? Our our owners crazier than yours. Microsoft just what you just just video board of him doing his dance moves that he dance wasn't there notice that there? He was not there. We'll Ferrell was there. He was there and his kings and his kings jersey. Everybody loves it kings in this town. It's it's it's hockey town lost was does like, it's hockey. It really really does we need to get some more banners up there for the clippers lot of loving on bell conversation today with him being done for the year. Next time we see him new league year. That's the next time. We see him. We will see him in March. That's the next time unless he shows up at the Super Bowl wants to go some sort of press appearance that will be something and I've reached out to him to call an who's gonna okay. Here man, I say I would love to know from the source. What's going on Mike in Michigan? Let's get him on the phone. He's been hanging on for quite some time. What's up, Mike? All right, guys. Anything's taking my call making it. Couple of thoughts on on lady on del one. Is you know, I don't know how he gives up fourteen and a half million. He's never gonna make that up, regardless of how much more he gets in an extension with somebody else or contract is just not gonna make that up to what I what I think this is done and contrary to previous caller is I think that this actually gets or leverage to the organization and that they're gonna start looking towards these younger players on the rookie contracts making minimum Ernie.

"Great stuff with Chris Mannix, before he thinks Carmelo Anthony is gonna wind up where Miami airport land is that what he said. Yeah. Really surprised hadn't heard Portland mentioned it. Well, the interesting thing that is is you can't think that he's just toasties done. Can you know, he's finished? Or is that just what we want to hope for because he's a likable guy. You know, we certainly all of us in New York City having nothing, but affinity for Carmelo Anthony. Having won a championship and upstate New York in college, then going to New York and taking the nixes one place as close as they've gone playoff appearance, right for the Knicks. That's not his fault. No about manic saying that Durant. You know that the Knicks are trying to put on the cover of being functional in the front office. Because that's what's going to be a difference maker for a lot of free agents. He said that the Lakers are dealing with some dysfunction in the front office. Meaning that Luke Walton may not be the guy found that interesting. Take. That the narrative will play out when it's all said and done who wants to come play. The wants the max contract next. Lebron help LeBron women here in Los Angeles. And be viewed as the Robin to his bat. Right. Because we thought it was going to be Paul George. He's stayed put if Toronto goes to the finals this year, why would leave while the ideas that does leave the Los Angeles destination would choose would be the clippers right? And Jimmy Butler is not common right resume, and he's gonna stay in Philadelphia where Boeing Markelle Fultz coming off the bench. It's all well and good. Their starting five is nice now, it's all well and good wondering how it's gonna look that'd be a good game. He just needs to have the spotlight and pressure taken off a little bit. Not free throw shooting style right now. Just did you see explanation for that? No. I did not he said the ball slipped. And that's why he pump fakes because he was re adjusting getting the grip book. I hope that's what it is. The video did not look like, well, I haven't seen Charles Barkley. The driver slip in his hands. That's a pretty big hitch. I mean. Yeah. It's it's not good. What we're looking at right there. And again, I mentioned it earlier in the show. If you want to come to Los Angeles and win an NBA championship and Chris manic oozing again in the last hour from Sports Illustrated pointing out that some players might not wanna play with LeBron say, it's LeBron's and game of his career. They don't wanna do that that they want to do their own thing. Durant wants to do his own thing in New York. Find a spot where it's your spot where it's your legacy. It's your storyline. See that. And see that it met it wouldn't that be in a remarkable way for this league to break off from the super team era. If that would happen that everybody wants to find their own team and nobody wants to team up together for super team. That would be an interesting dynamic than teaming kills the super team. Yes. But I think again, that's a knee jerk reaction it's mid November. We're talking about somebody's going to have to beat them in June for crying out loud. Yeah. Which you pointed out for your day, it's six still six months away. But the again going I was at the kings game last night, and you look up. There's no sign that the clippers play in that arena. So the kings are there and they have banners. They've got banners. The LA sparks banners. The Lakers have everything. Okay. And then there's Taylor swift most performance most sold out performances in the history of sold has more banner. She has more banners in the clippers do and when you go there for a clippers game. They just put up large photographs in banner form that they hang of their star players. Right. That was something. Doc Rivers started when he took over right? And so you you've got a blank slate. A coach that's not going anywhere a front office that's solidified with with Jerry West. And and Lee Jenkins as as as Mannix pointed out, so you've got the logo and the the Ligo. Right. And so hot saw got..
