"My next guest is Michael Kirk. He is a research scientist with the video physics science division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. In Greenbelt, Maryland, outside of Washington, D C. Dr Michael Clark, Welcome to show nice to have you here. A pleasure to be here. I'm happy to be here with you. Dr. Kirk knows a whole lot about what is going on above our head in the skies, and we've got a media shower coming. When is it? Where is it? How can we see it? What do we expect to see Dr Kirk? You have a great opportunity for you and your listeners coming up in here. This is my one of my favorite times a year, Miss December December 13 14 is the geminid meteor showers. This is the highlight of the media shall year they're going to be able to see a fantastic display of ideas and catch up to 50 of more of Meteors per hour. So what you want to do is go outside It peaks on December 14 13 to 14, which is the new moon. There's not gonna be any notes, which is fantastic. No movement to get in your way, so find a clear dark sky. When your feet to the south lay down on the glass wake for about 20 minutes, the eyes too dark and just and just look up in the sky. You're gonna see meteor streaking across the sky at about £50, which is fantastic. Is there a time that's better than others? And primal work. That is when the German eyes the constellation Gemini, where the media's air coming from the highest in the sky, so to find him, and I know you want to find a line all the lines of consolation. Both people are used to seeing what you two is you find the lower right? The of O'Brien, which is a bridal the Star rival, and you draw a line up to the upper left shoulder are excuse me loaded, right. Need to operate left shoulder, better juice. And you fall that line through the studio line felt up off the corner and you call that line to find two twin bright stars. There's a castor and polyps, which is the twins that make up the constellation Gemini. That's where the media child is coming from. So find US two stars. Sit back, Relax and an hour outside, bring up something woman drinking a one packet to keep yourself warm. And just what the show Terry you away very briefly because I want to get into another subject. Does this happen the same time every year? Generally. Is this a special thing right now this year? It happened around the same time every year. So it's caused by the big rock hold 30 to paint on which is the parent even concede your shower. So a flying through a bunch of rocked up, and that's what caused all the media is that we're gonna be able to speak. All right. And what is you? You talk about this Saturn conjunction. What is the Saturn conjunction? Uh, this is something that's truly special. Okay, So this is a conjunction of between Jupiter and Saturn. Which means that Jupiter and Saturn the both the plants are gonna appear very close together in the sky. Listen, 0.1 degrees apart in the sky. This is happening. December 21st 2020, which is also obviously the date of the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. On dis is going to be the first time these planets have been so close to the sky. 12 26 No Michael medieval times. This is the first time so go out and look because this is a fantastic They happen in conjunction is packed in there pretty close together in the sky about once every 20 years based on their orbital mechanics, But this is exceptionally close together. So look towards the Western sky. Just after sunset. You'll see two bright planets that come closer and closer and closer together. If you have a pair of binoculars bring those out. You can use binoculars. Just look at them and see the two planets closest together in the sky. And then briefly the one minute we have left. You know when this is going to happen again. That's invisible anyway. It will happen again and about 40 years on day So you know it. Now wait another 40 years, So pray for no clouds on the night of the winter solstice, right? Exactly. Dr Michael Kurtz, a research scientist with the Helio Physics science division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. It sounds like an exciting mid December and an exciting is a December 21st. Keep your eyes on. The sky is always exciting out there. I'm sure it is. Well, thank you for sharing those tips with us. It sounds like a great time to see a meteor shower and to see.

"This is patrick. Prince editor gold mine and this episode. We'll talk to. Michael kurtz the co founder of record store day. Michael talk about record store day black friday and as you know record store day also had three record drops. Instead of the annual fair in april due to the pandemic those record drops were august. September and october and will ask michael. How well those days went and also we'll talk about a new well actually came out in two thousand nineteen. It's our as the three mini turntable. That claes three inch records. And it's doing fairly well with collectors. The three inch records will be available on black. Friday will be johnny cash. I would assume that would be really popular with record collectors. But we'll find out more after this message when we talk to. Michael kurtz of record store day. he i'm ronald web. And this is patrick. Prints and together we host the gold mine radio our the show that features the latest issue of gold mine music collectors magazine. Tune-in sunday at seven pm eastern time on cygnus radio dot com. Hey michael podcast episode. And i'll making us quick and painless was possible worries. How did the or ssd drops go. August september october. How do they do this year. All things considering fantastic we build one to our knowledge got sick or at any Medical issues come out of participating record store day and you know we set it up so somebody could neither do draw or inland online online business. After one o'clock eastern time Says somebody's they needed to be shut down entirely. They could still participate so we did everything we could to make it safe and it worked in. We actually exceeded compared to three drops sales to register day. Last year we exceeded a record store dated by a large percentage and With plus titles neo ended up being very successful. Well if i give you my personal feedback. I loved it. I mean every month having a record store day dan. i don't know if ever be repeated but having an ever every month really went beyond my expectations. I was Able to buy. I bought more than i would on the annual j. in Got me excited every month. So in a weird way it really worked in we. We were confident with but it ended up working for those reasons. It's very likely that will continue it because it's extremely stressful on the stores To to go through that You know three times in a row. It's just it's just too much So they've been very clear about that too can't do that. I mean the glad it all worked out it was the right thing to do during an a pandemic but we want to hard well when we talked to record stores. Obviously you talked to them all all the time more than we do. But we out that some stores have done better than expected during the pandemic especially if they already had mail order websites. You know It seems like the stores that didn't seem to do well where the is just getting off the ground or without a separate way of commerce Like like a website Did you find that same sort of thing. You know in a crisis in this it led to a lot of stores expanding the business by working on line on the different platforms egos in a really good partner believe it or not in insurance urge discouraged minimize. Scalping practice today really but also in doing promotions just the worst helping out the word out. Positional guys also could partner Then towards the doing like shop on facebook page there's been a lot of innovation so able them to to sell more You know a fortunately a lot of it is used product because the majors majors not making records lay a and So that's problematic but so far so good. This year was a very strong year for most scored. I think that those three drops came at the right time. They really helped record stores. More than you'll find out the figures soon but i really think they helped a lot of record stores at the right time. Yeah link to the word. Wrap up. That was and just recently and it was record-breaking again over two million records sold over the three drops who were talking. You know somewhere around Averaging out the price per record in somewhere around thirty million dollars in sales which is near for record choice is very good. You know it was really positive caught. I'll send you. That makes him okay. Great well as we were talking about how record stores had to adjust this year. Some well was a bit of serendipity. I'll give a call out to cheap thrills in west. Virginia they have to stores and one has had a drive window which really helped them in these times. A covid I know a lot of people doing curbside. But just like you would a fast food place. People would placed order and drive up and get a lot of stories. I've heard about companies in innovative. Got an end. it ended up having fun with it. This and i think we will look back on this one day. You know like. I remember win. Seem like something that no one ever think about doing right. Nowadays and all the stores seem to be using the right protocol masks. Hand sanitizer Limited limiting the number of people in the stores at one time Do you find that to be mostly the case because you know the only issues we had was early on it kind of pain. There were some people who think their politics to the right spectrum or offenders that stores were asking him to do that of course now given the the situation worrying that was you got the right thing to do it was for. The intake is good for their employees and the stories. They deserve to the way that they can stay healthy. Everybody's done it across the board right. What the uptick of covert cases now. what are your expectations for this from black friday always earned every team that i'd like to be know have reasons to cheerful.

"If you have any questions or comments about the content of our program or should this evening will examine how the cool bit nineteen pandemic is affecting our region's residential coop community our guest is Jeffrey Michelle the general council and executive member of the president's co op and condo council of New York City also known as the P. C. C. C. this image that was also a founding member of the law firm of Hankin and Michelle P. L. L. C. as well as the co chair of the queen's bar associations co op and condo committee Jeff many thanks for joining us this evening here on talk radio seventy seven WABC how are you I'm doing well and I have not spent this much time in the basement since my adolescent days playing ping pong and stratum of baseball with my brother but no complaints okay that's good stuff we will put in the breeze but a lot of we all know exactly what your you're referring to again Jeffrey thank you so much for joining us we have a series of important topics to cover so we'll just get right into our discussion tell us about the formation in the history of the P. C. C. C. okay glad to do it so the the the founder of the group is Bob Friedrich take a civic leader in queens he founded the group around fifteen years ago Bob is the president of Glen oaks village a three thousand you know co op in queens and it actually is the largest call conversion east of the Mississippi Bob also spearheaded what I call the clinics miracle as president to turn their finances around to the point that their model of a successful coop but obviously that's a story for another show and I'm sure Bob would love to tell you it's originally it started as a think tank and in a format change my peers for coop and condo put presidents and we morphed into an advocacy group around two thousand eleven with are are based mostly in the out of pearls specially queens Bob and I would join with with Warren Schreiber who's also a well known civic leader in queens and well known and respected amongst elected officials the three of us join forces and use our diverse skills and contacts to make a fairly formidable team there was a dearth of advocacy on behalf of co ops and condos in the outer boroughs and the queens area especially you know we always like to say we are our members are not on Park Avenue but rather hillside Avenue we represent you know more the more working class coops and has one and I was like the coolest it's the last bastion of affordable housing in New York City organization has no limit just know Robbie is just good old fashioned grass roots we're all volunteers we don't sell anything we have no trade shows which if they lean being co op and condo advocacy machine right engine who the members of the P. C. C. C. so the members are the board president of over a hundred boards representing over seventy thousand units of housing and we're run by an executive committee with as I said Bob Friedrich a large rubber and we have Michael Kurtz Jenna Schreiber store local rich and unfortunately one of our executive members notably recently passed away as a result of a coke coke coke it till next okay what issues has the PCC worked on that you would like to highlight okay well we got together within a week and had a meeting with the department of finance in twenty eleven when the coop taxes went through the roof a long story short we separate meetings with local coops and organization was on its way at the end of the day the commission froze tax increases F. three series of hearings that we attended and save costs millions of dollars in the next five years big issues that other big issues of his opposition to certain call up bills that are better for cops which is what they call the timings bill and the reason still and also trying to carve out a call up from the tenant protection act and also we're constantly fighting to keep the club tax abatement alive and J. fifty fifty one benefits for life we still was about to propose legislation from New York state assembly member Stephen CERN stern I should say that's something we wanted to focus on if you could give us a brief one we sure sure so this Easter is a member of the New York State Assembly he recently introduced bill to give municipalities the ability to wave in the for real estate tax payments what this would do it in in a time of cold that crisis is give a municipalities and a way to you know to save ET businesses taxes and penalties if they're not able to pay their real estate taxes what about the proposed legislation from New York state senator Brian Kavanagh another important topic to the coal sector let's let's address that okay so there is a bill that would provide financial relief to collapse and shareholders in the form of rain and poor maintenance relief it's a very well crafted bill and the release is targeted to the portion of maintenance that is over thirty percent of your income the shareholder will pay the rest but it's targeted so it would fill the gap between thirty percent of your income and the and then the balance of the maintenance so it's not just the giveaway it's designs to help fill the gap between someone's income and the you know the balance of their maintenance the full okay hold on one second I just have to change phones here okay we will do that were holding for Jeffrey Michelle over the president's council the I should get the president's cooperative and condominium council of New York City also known as the P. C. C. C. ng presidents co op and condo cancel he's a whole large large cooperative and condominium organization for New York City co op shareholders and condominium unit owners very similar to the cooperative and condominium Advisory Council of the building and realty institute that is the P. R. I.'s coop and condo group which has been in existence since nineteen seventy nine to be cooperative and condominium Advisory Council of the BRI represents more than four hundred coops and condos throughout the Westchester county and mid Hudson region and it's a very very active component organization of the building in real cheap institute a chip you start to be under a contact I had a little technical problems my phone but everything's finance finance find live radio those things happen all the time yeah yeah yeah we we're very accustomed to them no problem whatsoever yet senator shrunk Schumer yesterday addressed in the report issues for coops regarding their eligibility in the paycheck protection program what is happening with that proposal okay well I'm glad you asked and I just need to give you a bit of the tax source story to to get the perspective of what's happening the original U. S. government federal stimulus package when this whole thing hit included something called paycheck protection program as many of your listeners are probably familiar with it basically provides forgivable loans to small businesses if the money's use for seventy five percent payroll and the rest from mortgage and various other qualified expenses originally we thought coops were included in coops are in essence a small business and has the same financial pressures as any other business so one eight but on April second the SBA issued an interim ruling effectively cutting costs and condoms out of the program is devastating you know co ops and condos especially a lot of our members were in the epicenter of the epicenter in queens they have you know that they have increased expenses advertising expenses increased water bills everybody's home all day increase fuel usage since everybody's home all day so and obviously collections were potentially problematic so once we read the the into ruling we want action and very typical of how we work we made for our first call was to a friend of ours and colleague Robert Zimmerman who is a political consultant he always gives us excellent advice in these types of matters Robert is well known by senator Schumer and immediately stated to me how cold shock within ten minutes I was on the phone with Chuck Schumer's staff members and they have been incredible on this issue ever since following up every which way they push ascension this issue in conjunction with the New York City congressional delegation members include X. Y. Z. Meng and Velazquez what the present council did besides lobbying those offices we gathered over fifty letters from coop boards representing over three thousand units of housing and we sent that to any email address we can get anybody we could find that we could send it to and it had it had a tremendous impact and as a result of these combined efforts the recent coded for package known as the heroes act does include collapse in the in the PPP program just passed the house last week and is now before the Senate senator Schumer who as as I said it is a strong advocate of including collapse in this program how the video conference yesterday with a coalition of corporate conduct rupes including the PCC New York council of collapsed your own organization to build builds realty group and habitat magazines it you know we got some great information from him he said he's hoping that it will come up sometime in June although I read the paper today and if the Senate is now one point they cation for the Memorial Day holiday no one knows when it's going to restart in terms of handle these types of programs but he said something interesting that that though he discussed at length he said that there may be what's called an administrative six and basically you know the statute as it was originally written did not exclude kooxda came as a result of an interim ruling from the SBA so are lectins and appears organizations are now contacting the SBA in treasury to see if they can change the interim ruling and if the so so working on it on two fronts the legislative fronts and the administrator front okay that would be a tremendous tremendous help to the co op community if that proposal were to pass in the Senate will definitely be monitoring that in the weeks ahead no question about that you're listening to constructive conversations with the building in realty institute a radio program of the building in realty institute of Westchester and the mid Hudson region on behalf of our board of trustees and Tim Foley or executive director we thank you for joining us this evening on talk radio seventy seven WABC our guest is Jeffrey Rizzo the general council and executive member of the president's co op and condo council of New York City also known as the P. C. C. C. we're jamming how the Kobe nineteen pandemic is affecting our region's residential co op.

Thank you for joining me in Memphis. How are you? I'm wonderful. It's great to have you on the program. So recently, there was a poll where about one in eight adults have suicidal thoughts over their body image. Hard to believe. It's true that the things from childhood and high school they carry on with us. Right. And society. Facebook internet social media, certainly doesn't help with expectations. So I think it's important for each one of us to manage our expectations, right. Yes. Absolutely. Looking at this and from, from your expertise, in from your from your knowledge of all this, who and win are the greatest are when the who, who has received maybe more of this who who who's more likely to suffer from this, and also wins the most likely time when someone may begin to have negative body image thoughts. Question, because a lot of adult, you know, at first glance, you think it's women and a lot of have also reported that sneaks up on you. You may be looking through post and not even realizing that subconsciously you're comparing yourself to those sexual images or perhaps even just marketing from fitness companies. You know, you can't even stand in the grocery line without looking at magazines of rock-hard ads and things like that. I do believe though it's a double edged sword. Not only do we have to manage our own expectations. And the words that were speaking to ourselves, I think it's really the responsibility. Also of content providers to say okay, ethically, am I putting out an inspiring and truthful message? Have you noticed in, you mentioned that right there at the checkout lines the grocery store? It's a great example. But, you know, even in online advertising infomercials. I've never actually seen an overweight person use a fitness device. Is a brilliant observations. Wow. And maybe it's time for change. That's really interesting. You know, marketing, of course, everything's lovely but is real life perfect. Of course not. None of us are perfect. And I think it's just so important to have these face to face, and also even online conversation doing what you're doing right now, but also reaching out to people in need friends, kids us even us who are in college in may seem like everything's going great. It's really important to just stay in their lives and talk to them. Right. And how are you feeling about this? How are things going? How do you see are important conversations that we should always be having with each other Tammy cling, joining us on Memphis morning news? And you see the images of, of people that are. Oftentimes, it's successful people, but you see Instagram models. You see people who are just in terrific shape. And you would think there's not much body fat on them. But what you never hear about. So, so, so it seems as the immense pressure that these folks that are in great shape that put themselves out there and market themselves for their body image in a positive way you never hear about the pressure that they're constantly under to maintain that to be able to a maintain their image in be to maintain their income. You're right. You're right. And that pressure, even extends not only social media and influencers. But think about the corporate world every day. The pressure at high school or college. You know, to look a certain way. Right. And I think that people like you content providers on air in writing to great job of really saying, okay. Stop. Let's evaluate this whole notion of perfection. And let's recalibrate and say, you know, it's okay to be imperfectly, and these images are simply images. We all know people that postings with filters, right? Yes. And a lot of what we see is, is filtered. Yeah. Absolutely tammy. Thank you for joining us on Memphis morning news. Quick plug what's, what's your, what's your latest?.
