"We're going to sell markers me want to get into the marker selling business amazing okay. Yeah it's hot right now. It's up there with with bitcoin. Everything else right. It's the hottest thing you can do. So in order to sell this marker they were gonna salads. Let's say we're going to sell it for three butts. Okay before we can sell it. We actually have to either make or by the marker from somewhere else. We need a marker in order to sell it in so if we're gonna sell the market for three bucks let's call that revenue case or revenue would be three dollars in the the. Let's say that it cost us a dollar to purchase it or make the marker that's what we call cost of goods sold. Yep so we've got three dollars in revenue a dollar in cost of goods sold. We're left with gross profit of two dollars okay. So cows profit is just revenue Okay all right. Yeah costume Gross profit we know there's other expenses that go along to run up a marker selling business we've got you know Bookkeepers we've got ads been. We've got rent and payroll and all the things. Those are called overhead expenses and when we subtract those overhead expenses from gross profit. We're left with net profit. Okay now. here's here's how to remember. Never forget it okay. Remember gross profits start to the g. comes before net profit on the alphabet. Starting with an end. So you'll always remember you okay. Revenue minus gross profits next is alphabetically next in the net. Profit is last. Which is the last thing you see pl said it's alphabetic order their gross profit than that profit. Gotcha okay you're welcome. You'll never forget that. I know seriously. No i i totally get that now. Because i'm literally actually thinking of my p. and l. right now like how i see it every month and yeah kasich. Goods sold is ready to the top. They're like okay. I got you now for somebody who was listening. Right now is like dude. What the heck is cost cost of goods sold like what goes into that. So let's talk about it especially for those of us that have coaches or course creators or consultants. We don't we don't have a marker it'd be cell in so we will. We will typically not have a cost of goods but we might have what's called a cost of services and so for example in my coaching program. I pay cfo's that are on my team to do work for my students. And as part of what i sell is you get a one on one. Cfo in so the the money that i pay my team to directly. Serve my clients in my students in that. Those are cost services. Okay now what. I'm not talking about is my va. I'm not talking about my ads manager. I'm talking about wind. My people on my team or directly providing.

"You're trying to figure out if you can afford a starbucks allante okay in so you say all right. I've ten dollars in my pocket. Do i have any more money coming into my pocket today. I'm gonna go look under the seat cushions and all those things. Nope no more money coming in today. What money's going out today other than this law tick well in order to get the lots. I gotta put seven dollars with gas in my car right or whatever. I've gotta buy some food or whatever it is and so you think about those required Expenses they're gonna come out and then you look to your left with and you say okay. I'm going to be left with four box. So can afford that seven dollar Probably not you just did a cash flow forecast right. It worked the same exact concept where to your business. How much money do you have at the beginning of the month. What are your projected. Money's coming in about what you're getting invoice but how much cash is going to be hitting your bank. What expenses the you know to be coming out in you. Subtract those numbers out in that leaves you with your cassidy end of the month and then you repeat that for the next two or three months in all of a sudden you have kaslo forecast. That's where i recommend people start is looking at least six weeks into the future with enhanced. That's thing one you get your books and order it. We feel confident. The bookstore thing to start looking at about six weeks into the future on your cash needs okay from there. I like to go to the piano. In those three metrics that i told you about earlier on the piano revenue moffit net profit in this is what i read. I recommend people do take a look at the last thirteen complete months. So if you're you know in the month of may for example you know. Last complete month was april. I would look at april of last year. Through april of this year for revenue. Gross profit in net profit in..

"So as entrepreneurs were like where the heck do we even start with. This thing incessant art will what are the real important numbers that is a business. Owner is a decision maker. What are the ones i have to understand wanting to pl it turns out. There's only three out of all those. There's really only three revenue. Gross profit in net profit. Okay and there's an. There's a fourth one. I call the critical or financial metrics. There's a fourth one cash. It doesn't live on the nfl. But unlike if i can just understand how every decision in my business impacts revenue how it impacts bros profit in how it impacts net profit in also cash. That's like ninety five percent of the hard work. Right at yahoo stan. How decisions impact. Those four numbers you can make better decisions and says not a metaphor necessarily but it's like in the simplest form that's really all in a balance sheet are right now. There's more to it that there's important things beyond that but those are important for your accountant. Cpa and tax prepared. Worry about not for you. You know this is you know that simplification process so you bring up these four numbers and i wrote down. I took a note there. Difference between gross profit margin net profit margins. So i wanna get to that if someone is. They're they're making money in their business and there. Maybe they have a bookkeeper but or bookkeeping company. I see this a lot where the bookkeeping companies keeping track of numbers categorizing stuff and then sort of like handing it over to the entrepreneur. Doesn't really know like to your point. Michael like they don't really know what to do with. So how does one get started with gathering these numbers number one and then let's dive into these four four metrics if you will for numbers that people like most people really aren't looking at or they don't understand what they are and actually had to take action from them. Yeah let let me start by saying this. I love bookkeepers..

In the navy is sitting on. submarines yeah. I don't think i knew that. No yeah so yes out. On submarines for eleven years decided that That life wasn't for me anymore. And i transitioned out of the military and got a job is a is an engineer. At a plywood a very large fly wood millet was was doing very high eight figures in through a random change a chain of events. Rick found myself in charge of the facility about eighteen months after having left the navy in that role i had. Pnl accountability and the number. One problem i have with that is i didn't know what the heck pl stood for just to be accountable for it and every couple of weeks i'd get these financial reports you know. Pnl's in balance sheets all these different things. And i didn't know what to make of any of it. In in what i would go talk to the accountants that work for me. That's ladies. I don't what do i do with this I realized that they really struggled to explain to me what to do. With those reports kind of tactical way in without asking. How do i come in to work tomorrow. It make smarter decisions about how i run this place based on these reports at how do i just be a better business leader. They couldn't tell me that in that that was a bless your heart. That's your job not is figuring out. It is my job that do shakes. And i tried to do the youtube in google. But you're not gonna learn. Yeah for business. That large on youtube out manage the finances. And so. I said. I'm gonna go get an mba. I'm gonna learn all the things. Although i guess when they made him an opener he panicked and his body fried apart and he lost his and the yankees threw the ball over the infield foot. Traditionally the eggs openers. They did it lead. They copy the raise in every way they they can't copy the in this one and then michael king in his post game press conference which you i know you. Love was like yeah. I'm trying to get cute. That first time through the order a mess around say not show the guys my best. Try to set them up for the third time through the order. You don't sniff that third time through the order dude and your best outing of the year was attacking every hitter. It was that bullpen game. When you came in against the blue jays boom bang zip six one hit shutout innings or whatever attack people. It's actually fun to attack people. My jaw was on the floor when he said that because he's made it beyond four four and two thirds innings once in his six starts. I know six starts is not defining anybody your i. I'm the first guy to to give people some Some leeway and and a bigger sample size because you simply need more of that look at what twenty twenty s done twenty twenty made us think atta montesinos montesinos sucked and now he's having a good year with the red sox so you need to give guys time. But there's been zero progress on michael kings and i like michael. I like his stuff. He's certainly a nice guy. But you're telling the media that after your starting it's like dude the problem with you this entire year as a starter filling in after the after your team had had issues with the depth in the starting rotation is giving up runs in the first inning..

"Financial advice to businesses. Like yours he is also the host of the podcast in the trenches which I was recently interviewed on great time on his interview and it was pretty amazing how many similarities he and I have in our stories and how they overlap with one another. Take a listen and enjoy. Hey there Eric Olson in I'm Heaven Days. Join us on our journey to building a one hundred million dollars company. Hey everybody my name is Michael King. I'm the CEO of KFC solutions. Where our sole mission in life to help business owners understand their numbers so they can make better decisions you know after working with over two hundred businesses now and these are businesses that range anywhere from pre revenue startups. Maybe better known as the want preneurs all the way up to mid range businesses and even Into the fortune one hundred companies people. Say Hey with all that experience. What would you say is the number one mistake that executives or business owners? Make relative to business financials. And it's a pretty easy answer for me. In this is true for those pre revenue startups. All the way up to the the big boys the biggest mistake that a business owner or an executive can make is not knowing the four key financial numbers for their business. Now if you've ever looked at PNL's and balance sheet statements of cash flows. You know that there's probably hundreds and hundreds of financial metrics they probably make your eyes gloss over there. There's nothing sexier exciting about them. The good news though is regardless of how big your businesses. There's really only four financial metrics that you absolutely have to know inside and out in the cool thing about these metrics is. These are the only four numbers only four numbers that are going to cause your business to thrive or cause it to die. So you're you might be thinking yourself. Hey I'm not a numbers person. This isn't my thing. I have a bookkeeper. I've an account of a controller. They worry about these things. But I'm going to tell you the four numbers that you absolutely have to. No you can't outsource these. You can't hired away and and have somebody else on your team. Track them if you WANNA be a savvy. Successful business owner. You're going to have to know these numbers in here. They are number. One is revenue revenue is really straightforward. We all know what revenue is. It's the money that comes in the door. Revenues SALES ETCETERA. Everybody follows revenue number two though is gross profit. So let's say that you sell Coffee Cups and you sell this coffee cups for a dollar. You buy them from your supplier for twenty cents. You are left with a gross profit of eighty cents easy enough so revenue on that hypothetical is one dollar. Gross profit is eighty cents all right but as we all know is business owners. There's other costs that go into selling coffee cups you've got rent. You've got shipping. Maybe you have Internet fees. Maybe some employees. Somebody that answers your phone. All those overhead costs. Okay so maybe on a per cup average. That's thirty cents. Thirty Cents Per Cup goes towards overhead. So you sold it for a dollar. You paid twenty cents for the cup. You pay thirty cents an overhead. You're left with fifty cents of net profit so revenue minus gross minus overhead. You're left with net profit the fourth and final number that you have to understand in this is the most critical of all of them is cash. You know one of my favorite sayings is revenue Vanity Prophet is sanity but cash is king. And here's why cash is king caches. The only real number out of all the financials all the financial numbers that you have cash is the only real number. It's the only one that you could actually touch that number in real life. It's cash in the bank in caches. What pays salaries it's what pays rent? It's what pays your vendors. Cash cash is king right in so the reason that that that saying resonates with me revenue is vanity profit is sanity but cash is king is is business owners a lot of times when somebody says hey as your business doing. Oh Yeah we've We doubled revenue this year. We've got this ambitious goal to increase sales thirty percent. And we're on target it's a vanity metric profit is sanity that tells us how efficient the machine is. How much how much does it cost us to generate that revenue that we like to brag about so much but at the end of the day cash is king and as we know that we you know we can have profit on the books but we may not have the cash in the bank yet but cash is? What really pays the bills? It's the thing that's going to be business for it. So if you're a business owner if you're a pre revenue startup if you're Mitt here company doing maybe twenty thirty forty fifty million a year. Or if you're a big executive of a publicly traded company four numbers that you must know revenue gross profit that profiting cash thinks everybody have a great day?.

"He's and we kind of touched on this in the interview with him. But he might be even better because he's out of Colorado. And he preview it a little bit. He was talking about how being in the air. They're takes away from his slaughter a little bit. And now he may never give up even contact. They weren't coming close to him today close. There's this great to see. So out of you know, we actually did poolside was kind of funny, and we were praying. Yeah. We didn't. We don't have an RV down. Here. We were kind of just doing everything at the hotel aside from one special guest and remember to go. We I went to go get out of it. He was in the lobby and you're saying by the pool, and it was quiet in the moment came back. The started started gusting little of the women's find Audio's. Great and kids started coming the pool. And I was like e text me like, you got fucking kidding me. The last thing these annoying little kids being jumper the pools. I thought it was gonna come back to like a nine on nine volleyball. Yeah. Somebody that. Luckily, pretty much all worked. Yeah. It was great. So that was a great interview. Then next was sterling, right? John fucking sterling will can't yet king between king between that. Right. And we were able to get hold of John sterling somehow pretty sure he only has a flip phone, and we really get a hold of him. And he was nothing like nothing short of unbelievable. He is what you'd expect? I mean, he he walks in. We tweet out the picture whatever type of shirt, he was wearing was was electric and have a when I walked into the lobby. Yeah. He said I knew you guys would be early. Yep. I knew it. He was talking to sell. He. Yeah. Came back down. And we're really looking for twenty minutes ended up going forty minutes. And then at the end of it. He gave us a very nice compliment. We ended up basically like boys now, John sterling, he was really impressed. It was I mean. You can't top that. It was the best moment of my life. It was I I'd met I've loved on forever. I met him as a fan twenty thirteen interviewed him with Fordham two years ago in the press box. Don't think your member me at all. But now getting getting to be as a fan at WF UV and now with Barcelona. It's awesome. He was incredible. So that will be our March eighteenth interview, it's forty minutes long. It is hid has I-. There's nothing we didn't talk about currency Yankees talked about his whole his whole life and everything history his stories. He's he is fantastic. Is a funny Joe bookstore in there. So that was unbelievable. I kind of like when he walked away took the picture. I did like a Tommy Canley fist-bump after I was so pumped up and then after him. That was with it was that is that. Trying to think my head. No last interview we did. We had some discussions with other players today. Didn't end up. Well, yeah, we should have a few phone interviews. Very very soon with some bigger bigger names. We hope people are giving Luke for shit because he did the starting nine podcast, which rightfully we're corrobos. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. I think he does that. But he will we hope to have him on the phone. He had family down, the whatever things I don't really blame it, but we will have him on soon. Hopefully and. I was just it was a great great weekend. Trying to re embarrassed myself all we can with taps just attempting to death. I'm pretty good at it mean. Wade was very smooth. That's so we we interviewed weighed in a barbershop. Yep. And I know Donny said he was gonna start in AA. But if Swann your chef breaks or gets up there quick he's going to be the next one that goes triple so he's like hoping that they that they really succeed southern I hope to hope to see you in the Bronx year, if you need a roommate I plan on moving in September. So that would be cool. It's done is out of the picture. It'd be great. But I pre she's so much for coming coming on and the whole short-notice thing. But I wish you all the luck in the world. We're all rooting for you. Thank you. I appreciate it. All right king. Everybody. And thanks again. The Michael king for coming on. It was kind of like an on the we we had some interviews lined up. And then and they were pushed back a little bits. We will squeeze Mun earlier than initial worked out full-size better. So we came earlier, and we kinda were just shooting the shit with him that whole time. Like, we didn't have a lot completely prepared as much as we did the other interviews terms of structure and all that. And it was great or sometimes like honestly is and Michael he's a just a bro big stolley went to BC. So it was it was very cool to have him on hope to see your best luck everything. And I guess we're breaking news with that that he's good to go helpless, which is great. So that's big throwing again Amara seems to come out. Good. And I mean, he is we're talking about Donna's Anya deeming Armand and whoever in the beginning of the show, Michael king. If he was healthy, I think he'd really be in the mix to start the season. And I think I think Michael king will make a start in. As the I really like how disag- he's like, I'm gonna disagree with you. And he he was when I disagree with two. I think his stuff plays better for being snow for sure I just didn't think there was going to be a spot. But then he broke he's like those injuries happening. Right. Completely. Right. I think for sure he suffered disorder and. Yes. So I really hope we get to see him in New York this year. I think we will especially at the at the minimum September, call and stuff. But I think before that you should you will see assuming, you know, health and everything he's good to go. And you know, he continues the same stuff. So we should nothing. Best hope to have him on again after cracks the roster and everything she'll have some funny stories. But yeah, Michael king was awesome. So it's getting the trip. We get down. Here had a few things lined up. Some things didn't work out terms of the universe. Do. But overall, the production guy unbelievable to break. It all down Tyler Wade. We got weighed in a barbershop you're gonna listen to that one in a probably done a few shows. Out of at out of Iino was incredible to see him today. You were downstairs passed out basically so hot. We're gonna go chronological order, but I got to see out of you know, today and his stuff we were sitting a couple rows behind on plate and his stuff in that angle is unbelievable. It's truly Ramar. And I was tweeting. Oh, it's spring training. Dude doesn't fucking matter at the scene. His his his whippable stuff in person is great..

So I'm not really trying to get swing and misses I'm trying to get quick ground. Ball outs, we contact. But I'm my sliders. Never been great. I definitely had great strides with it this year. She talked to add out of you know, about that. That's one. Yeah. He he went to northeastern. I talked a little bit. When we first got here. I I so I went to college we had a BC alumni weekend. It was right after he got signed and one of my buddies who's who played at BC when venos- at northeastern said, yes. From ABC boys didn't think anything else I played in northeastern. He might know some of them. And I guess he was dating a girl at BC. So he was there like all the time and hung out with all the BC. Boy. So I was trying to get into it. Because he's big that like analytic stuff of the slow MO cameras and all the like tunneling of pitches. So that's something. I definitely want to get into. I'm I've been messing around with little grip changes. And since I've been shut down. I just like holding the ball just like feel it. But I'm gonna see if a new grip I have has made it a little bit more. I just needed sharper because it's anywhere from like eighty to eighty six and throw in nineteen ninety six I want that to be higher up that wanted to be like eighty five eighty seven eighty eight in their sharpen and with quick by. But then again, I'm not gonna change my. Punchout pitcher. So I really don't care about having that knockout secondary as long as I'm still getting out early in the count. I take it. You're someone who'd rather have the Greg Matic's eighty five pitch gem or you out thunk everyone. Then like, you know, fifteen strikeouts. Overpower and people right. Yeah. It's definitely cool on a statute to see like ten punchout game. But those come few and far between. But yeah, I mean, I I wanna be the guy that just eats up innings. We were just talking about it with J P firehouses news in AAA with me and bullpen hates it. When like you get in trouble in the first inning. And now all of a sudden bullpens got back in the first. And now it's a bullpen game from the first to the ninth inning. And so my my role is just to get to that fifth sixth seventh inning. And especially in today's day and age where you got four bullpen guys that are hundred plus coming in there that can just close the door..

"And they had like seven left these in their lineup. And a lot of them were the big power left. He's really drive a Mets as up, and I threw it probably five or six times that day and a lot of it was just backed Orna where I throw it off the two seem throwing it where it runs away and that have left you kind of see that and then lay off it. And then I throw it starts on that same plane, but comes back and catches the outside corner. And I think through four or five home it had like three or four. Look looking punch outs. Just because that was just because it was a new pitch. So my thing is I don't want to get into the habit of throwing more cutters and be a cutter guy. I wanted to be where I can almost like shock somebody. I love how much of a student the game. You are. This is like a clinic say, you you have obviously great stuff. We also talked about wanting to watch the film. Yogi Berra has the famous quote. Baseball's ninety percent mental. The physical math is just incorrect. How would you break it down? How much do you think is physical mental on your end? I it's totally dependent on the player. There are a lot of guys that are out there that say like, I just can't think when I'm out there. I I don't I don't wanna be thinking. I just wanna attack hitters even like like, I read Chris sale at the Red Sox will not shake off the catcher, and it just because it puts doubt in both their minds at the call and the wrong the wrong pitch. But for me, I wanna be I wanna be throwing the piss I want to throw for sure the most confidence in. So for me. I like as much it. It's probably for me. It's ninety ten mental physical just because when I'm on the mound. I wanna know my plan of attack. I wanna know everything about that hitter. I want a study everything from when he first broken in a pros. And I got notes on guys faced when I was in the ACC that's still are playing in the pros. And it's just I wanna see their their progression. To then know where I can exploit them where they haven't changed anything. And then just. Their overall approach of the game. And I when I go watch game like I was sitting there watching judge yesterday. And I'm trying to like see what I would do to him. And it's just like little things that I play mind games with myself to like put me in that in that situation and see like all right based on his body language. It looks like he's taking first pitcher here. And then you see him. He takes first pitch. You like, okay. I'm trying to get these little cues a lot of it. I I know it's the Yankees here. I was watching like Pedro and Jason Verita short. And that was like he had so much faith in Varitek because Varitek was studying that hitter. And like how hard it was gripping the bat as he got into the box. No one he's going to be aggressive. And so as much as I can't really see that those are the kind of things I'd like to see it's really interesting. How you said that the the shaking offing how sales though, we just interviewed adamant, you know, and he was like I wanna call my pitches, I'll shake off until they kill. They make me step off the mound. It's like everyone's different like that. But I mean, I pitched like in high school and stuff. I I needed to shake off like when you're you wanna throw. Yes. High school fishing and in triple eight hundred percent the same thing. But. People rave about your control your walk rate last year was ridiculous. A four point four walk. I mean, that's preposterous. But the the haters will say that like, you know, the the people criticize you a little bit. We'll say that you out pitch. What's your response to that? I totally agree. I that's something. I need to develop. I think that a rotation has to have a lot of different pitchers. You can't have Severino's all five of them be ninety eight plus on top of his slider..

So we talked about who's the king of Rb who's the Queen of Rb. I wanna say Whitney. I'm wanna give it the Whitney. But then you gotta be onsite. But the thing that the thing is that argument can be made if we'd nee- is to aren't be with Michael is to pop, you know, how he was like, you know, Bobby Brown aren't be Michael king pop. I think beyond say more pop Rb, man. There's so many things I throw out. First of all first of all I'm going to say the Queen of and B is Aretha. Okay. Now does. But the thing is that argument has been made about Marvin Gaye like is she so or is she R and B.
