Well, in the week ahead, we have a slate of fed speakers today we heard from the head of the Atlanta fed Rafael bostic. He said there's the possibility that rates will need to peak at a level above what policymakers had previously expected. Tomorrow we're going to hear from Jay Powell, the fed chair himself, he will be interviewed in Washington, Bloomberg's Michael McKee has a preview. Going into Friday's jobs report, the narrative was the fed chair hadn't pushed back hard enough on markets, pricing rate cuts later this year. The payroll report may have done that for him. If job growth is strong in hours worked a rising, that's a lot more money in consumers pockets available to spend, and at least according to the fed's Phillips curve model, that means inflation will be stickier. Powell gets another chance to make that point when he sits down with David Rubenstein, host of Bloomberg TV's peer to peer and David Rubenstein shows at the Washington economic club, expect him to say the fed will stay the course, raising rates one or two more times, and holding them throughout the year. So given that this is happening, the deal curve is actually impacting behavior People are engaging in risk management. It actually reduces the chance that the signal, the inverted yield curve, is actually accurate in forecasting a recession. The major wild card here is the fed. And the fed was late with all of this talk about transitory inflation, and it didn't make any sense to so many people, including me. So they're very late to the game, and the major wildcard here is whether the fed is going to be late again. And what I mean by that is that they don't see that inflation under control. They've slowed the economy and just continue the rate hikes. They have no reason to

China is even easing COVID restrictions, although doubt seems to be creeping in to the market's view on the path forward earlier I spoke with Bloomberg Sophia horta at Costa for her view on what's happening. It wasn't inflation dead just a few years ago. Bloomberg businessweek. Weekdays at 2 p.m. eastern on Bloomberg radio. We have to be rational in terms of how financial conditions can evolve, how eventually we can get to a point that the Federal Reserve will perhaps entertain supporting growth in certain inflation. But that seems to be a little bit premature at this point. Chrome Schneider head of short term portfolio management at pinko, perhaps premature, however, right now in markets, people seem to be cheering the end of inflation at least at the end of inflation as it had been in terms of how hot it was. We got the second consecutive downside surprise, a good surprise when it comes to software than expected inflation in PPI coming in. Lighter than expected across the board coming in at 8% versus 8.3%. If you strip out food and energy, 6.7% as opposed to expectations for 7.2%, the response in markets quite clear, rally across the board S&P up 1.8% NASDAQ up quite a bit more. Almost 3% yields lower dollar weaker across the board, a more sanguine picture for people who want to take risk. Joining us now is someone who has a really critical view on the whole issue. You're in Timur, global macro director at Fidelity Investments, and Yuri and I take a look at this and I think about something that you wrote. Today I can sum up the outlook in only 14 words. I like this. The fed is solving for 2% inflation. The market is solving for the fed. Is this market entirely looking to the fed and a day like today is just betting the fed will not have to raise rates as high and keep them there as long. I think that's true. And I think the market is feeling more confident, if you will, that it can look past peak fed, whether that's 5% or 5 and a quarter or a four and three quarters, and onto a more neutral kind of zone that will presumably come after the peak, which will be early next year, and then towards 2024. So if that neutral zone is three and a half, and you put in the math of where the two year yield is, where ten year real yields are, you plug that into a discounted cash flow model, you get to the kind of levels that we're now seeing in the market. So I think the CPI and now the PPI reports give the market some confidence that finally we can look past this peak in the curve and onto a more sort of normal range of interest rates. And that's how you get from 14 or 15 times earnings, which was really kind of the fair value when the two year yield was at 4.7 instead of now in the low force and onto a 17 type of multiple. Whether we can get beyond that, of course, is the big question. Our market's overly rosy right now. I don't think the overly rosy, but that doesn't mean they have a lot more room to rally from here because at a 17 multiple, which is kind of where we are now, and that's assuming that earnings, of course, hold, which, of course, is a very big assumption. I think we've already discounted a return to some kind of normalcy in interest rates. So in order to get another leg up from here, I think that would have to be more visibly that earnings are not going to fall. And then the market can have some comfort in the denominator of the PE, but also the fed might start to throw cold water on this rally because what happens when stocks rally and bonds rally and the dollar goes down, financial conditions loosen, which is the opposite of what the fed wants to see during a tightening campaign because it once financial conditions to tighten. So another risk is that the fed will start throwing cold water on this rally. How much do you have to look to big tech? And I keep coming back to this. Because it's such a significant component of the overall index is if there isn't something more structural about how they operate that gives people confidence. Can we see the S&P end up positive next year versus where we are today? It's possible, but what I call the nifty 50, the big mega cap growth stocks. Those have been a powerful engine for the markets over the past ten years or so, right? They generate a lot of free cash flow, a lot of that cash flow that was extra was returned back to shareholders via share buybacks. And that financial engineering machine has been very, very rewarding for investors because it creates a high payout ratio, right
