Firefighters Battle Massive Fires In Colorado
"More than two thousand firefighters are battling four major blazes in Colorado. Michael Hayden is incident commander for a wildfire in the northern part of the state we're working with the other fires right now trying to share resources we said just about everything we have out and recalling from resources all over the nation. Colorado public radio reporter Michael Elizabeth Sacrifice joins us from the town of Eagle that's near a large fire in western. Colorado. Hi there. Hi there. Thanks for having me on. So tell me exactly where you are what you can see what's happening there. I'm not far from Dot Sarah which was one of the areas on pre evacuation notice which means folks need to be ready to leave at any moment the Grizzly creek fires burning in a canyon nearby about a mile east of glenwood springs and this Canyon is one of Colorado's natural treasures. One firefighter I spoke with described seeing it burn as heartbreaking. This fire has shut down interstate seventy, which is the main east-west highway into and through the mountain communities, and this shutdown is causing major issues for businesses and commuters, and because of this is the number one fire priority the nation to try and get it contained and the highway has been shut down for more than a week already. So the number one priority in the nation. But as we mentioned, there's three other big fires in Colorado right now, what's going on with those? Yeah more than one hundred and thirty thousand acres have burned in total and a few hundred people are evacuated some from their homes others from campsites and trails. There hasn't been any structure loss yet firefighters are working really hard to try and keep that from happening short the playing. The penguins fire north of Grand. Junction is now the fourth largest fire in Colorado's recorded history and these fires are hardly contained all at this point and it's really smoky close to these fires especially. But around the whole state, the State Health Department has issued an air quality alert for the front range and surrounding counties, which warns that at risk folks especially should stay inside let children older adults in those with heart or lung disease. Yeah. I was GONNA ask how the pandemic is affecting all this. How what do we know about how covid nineteen may be affecting? Either the people trying to flee the fires of the the firefighters trying to fight them. Right, the State Health Department warns that there is an overlap the people who are most impacted by wildfire smoke are the people who are most at risk for the worst symptoms of Corona virus. The state said the meeting of Kobe nineteen and the smoke is quote a real public health issue. Some research has shown that exposure to air pollution can worsen the outcomes of catching the virus, and while fire smoke can irritate weakened the lungs and immune system making someone more susceptible to infection the state suggestion to stay inside to avoid the smoke they say is now even more important because it can also help stop the spread of Code Nineteen as well. What do we know by the way about what has caused these Colorado I? Let's see Mr with me. Start Your back high. I was asking about the cause of the first. Yeah. Going there under an investigation, the largest fire was caused by lightning. And right now in the Grizzly Creek fire, the canyon fire was likely sparked by a chain dragging on the highway or maybe a cigarette out the window at originated in traffic. But what's really fueling these fires statewide drought and heat, and we haven't really seen those monsoon rains just yet. Right thank you so much for your reporting. Stay safe. Appreciate it thanks for having me on. That is reporter Michael Elizabeth sacrifice with Colorado public radio.
Why are oil prices dropping?
"Late last week. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC a cartel of thirteen major oil producers met in Vienna OPEC agreed to cut their total output by one point five million barrels. A day an attempt to stabilize the price of oil in the face of slumping demand Bright US situation. We have over two subtitled. The market is necessarily OPEC non-opec something for the OPEC needed to sell this pact to Russia which is not a member of the organization but has generally seemed an amenable ally in recent years. We are hoping that I share Is Very Important member. They've been working with us for a very long time. And I think we understand each other. Now we look forward to To good meeting I cannot see. Us Not agreeing. Because that's very important for the market and everyone is keen. Not this time. Russia refused to cut its production by way of retaliation. Saudi Arabia opened. Its taps further and offer discounts on top Saudi production. Next month will be at least twenty five percent higher than Saudi production last month. Russia then threatened to increase its production to a record. Eleven point eight million barrels a day. The consequence of the unleashing of these cases was that oil prices plummeted further and faster than any time since the first Gulf War in nineteen ninety. One the barrel of Brent crude he bought for nearly sixty dollars just two weeks ago. You couldn't sell for more than thirty six bucks today. Don't WanNA check his prices. Because this plunge US remarkable folks it was on reports that Saudi Arabia slashing prices and increasing supply this after talks with Russia collapsed prices down more than twenty two percent earlier today the biggest loss since launch of the Gulf War. If one takes an extremely narrow view of this. It's not altogether bad news. Indeed the world's preeminent narrow view taker. Us President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday as oil prices charged towards the earth's core good for consumer gasoline prices coming down. The broadview was somehow condensed into the reply to this tweet by twitter. Use a cold. Michael Hayden ought to extend to him. His full title retired Four-star. Us Air Force General. Michael Hayden former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. Hayden spoke for many in the US and elsewhere when he tweeted simply pithily. Oh my God it is of course far from the first time that president trump has done a convincing impression of a self involved illiterate simpleton who has absolutely no idea what is going on or what he's talking about. So what are we looking at here? More specifically what in the wide world of sports is Russia playing at especially since its economy in recent times has been so reliant on the price of oil staying on the high side where. Russia is concerned. One should never rush to discount the possibility that they're just winding everybody up but Russia may also have spotted an opportune moment to strike at a potential rival America's shale oil industry. The fracking of the United States were already running up immense debts against expected future discoveries and anticipated future earnings bargain-basement oil prices could finish more than a few of these companies off prior to a recovery. Yesterday some oil explorers like dental petroleum of Houston saw their share prices have Russia may also be biting back against American sanctions against Russia's energy sector last month Russian oil giant Rosneft helmed by Longtime Vladimir. Putin Associate Egos session was punished for transporting Venezuelan crude. I'm sure there will the efforts to get around the sanctions already. Rosneft is doing this. For example by changing the names of ships or ship to shift transfers to try to hide the Venezuelan origin of oil. It remains to be seen how long Moscow can outstay a Riyadh while Russia cannot compete with Saudi Arabia's production nor is it as reliance on oil to function oil revenues thirty seven percent of Russia's budget compared to sixty five percent of Saudi Arabia's Russia has suggested that it might be open to renewed talks with OPEC whether these happen or whether anything comes of them or not. This would not be the first time that Russia has chiefly pursued a policy that hurts Russia. As long as it hurts everyone else. More

"And this is where you know, today's retraction or dispersion of BuzzFeed become so important because what are we talking about here? We're talking about a BuzzFeed story in which the argument is of the piece is that President Trump ordered Michael Cohen to lie to congress. Yes. To congress not to private investigators federal investigators, but to congress, and I think that underscores really this is a political thing. It's about an offense that occurred if it occurred with congress, and that's why you need after a congressional investigation. And the mechanism to do that is an impeachment in petermann inquiry. Not to impeach him. That's not what we're saying at all. But we are saying that the accusations here, and so many other things I mean, just remember it was a week ago that the New York Times reported that Trump was under investigation as that sitting president for being an asset of the FBI. And then the next day, the Washington Post reporting all the stuff about the translator Putin meeting secretly with with Trump in the translator notes being seized by Trump and the like, so all of those are the reasons why I think there is public need for some sort of investigation that isn't just a law enforcement one. Yes. The piece that you've just published with with General, Michael Hayden, basically says and other people have made similar arguments about our White House counsel Binyamin Appelbaum Alantic, you're saying both of your saying this time to initiate the formal inquiry in the house to have some public. Factfinding undertaken. Exactly. And we come at this from very very different perspectives. I mean, he's a general that was a solicitor general, which is not a general. It's a lawyer he is far more conservative than I am generational different. And in so many things, but on this single point, which I think underscores what you're talking about. Which is the public's need. I some answers here. This is why I think congress has got to start this inquiry. Let's let's talk about the content of what is essentially alleged in this article. And I think it's. I think to kindle Amiens point..

Evening Brief: Black Friday brings dark climate news
"The Trump administration just released a major ominous climate change report two weeks earlier than plan raising suspicions, and it was purposely released on black Friday because if people would actually be paying attention. It is no secret. The climate change is not exactly a top priority for this White House. President Trump has frequently doubted its existence and has called it a hoax. So for more. Here's C N, N's, Rene, Marsh and Rene. This report offers as we mentioned more of an ominous outlook what's in the report. Yeah. So this report came out roughly thirty minutes ago, it's hundreds of pages long as you mentioned. This is a government report that focuses squarely on the human impacts of climate change people here in the United States and really peels out real life examples of how climate change is already impacting our life when it comes to health the economic costs the impact on our transportation infrastructure. So I'm gonna just pull out a couple of the highlights here as we continue to go through. Port one of the studying highlights here's that wildfires which were seeing out west they say if this is not brought under control wildfire season will burn up to six times more.

Our thoughts are certainly with you. And we look forward to your recovery and getting back here at C N N as soon as you can also just into CNN. The White House is asking the US supreme court to take up the administration's transgender military ban. So far federal judges have blocked President Trump from banning most transgender people from openly serving in the US military. So to Joe this cubic, we go our CNN supreme court analyst Joan what's going on here. More action between the supreme court and administration actually got here. Yes, right now, President Trump's ban. On most transgender people serving in the US military is being litigated in lower courts. Lower courts blocked, the policy from fully taking FEC and the Trump administration instead of waiting for the full airing in lower courts, which normally is the way has jumped up to the supreme court and said justices, please intervene at this time. They've just recent just within the hour, Brooke filed petitions at the supreme court in three cases from California and here in the district of Columbia saying come in review it and the timing they're seeking his review for this court term. Usually, the justices decide by January what cases they will hear through April. And then we had the big rulings in June. And what the Trump administration's lawyers at the department of Justice are saying is this is important to get clarity right now. Not to have lower courts, hold this up and have any kind of either inconsistencies or just plain block on this. New policy that the Trump administration would want to to bar transgender transgender people from serving supreme court justices, please resolve this right away. Do you think the supreme court would take it? This is a tough one brook because normally no normally it's very hard to take to make a case for the justices intervening lower courts have in a preliminary way say said that this this could violate the equality guarantee of the constitution to say that a certain group of people would be prohibited from serving based solely on the fact that they're transgender so they have a very high bar to pass. And they're the administration has a high bar to pass and they have a high barrier to pass in a compressed period of time. Now earlier in the week. We saw President Trump referred to judges as either Obama judges or Clinton judges. Now, we certainly have some shrunk judges now on the court, and I think the department. Of Justice might think that they might be getting much more of a sympathetic airing. But I don't know I think that if the court under John Roberts agrees to take this up in this kind of urgent manner. It would be sending a signal that would be more favorable to the Trump administration than usual to an administration. Well, Washington see if they do Joan good to see you. Thank you very much. Thank you coming up next. Some of his chilling last words quoting him. God, I don't want to die with his diary reveals about an American who was tacked with arrows and killed on a remote island by one of the world's most isolated tribes. Also happening the government dropping a major report on the human impact of climate change. What it reveals and also the timing. Why was this released the day after thanksgiving? You know, what's not.

Trump links yanking John Brennan's security clearance to Russia probe
"The president tonight quoting one of his supporters who. Appeared on Fox News. John Brennan is a stain on the country. We deserve better than this from the briefing room. Earlier today, here is how the White House press secretary laid out the reasons for stripping Brennan's clearance while threatening to take similar action against other Trump critics. Any benefits that senior officials might glean from consultations with Mr. Brennan are now outweighed by the risks posed by his erotic, conduct and behavior. Mr. Brennan has recently leveraged his status as a former high ranking official with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations whiled outbursts on the internet and television about this administration. As part of this review, I'm valuating action with respect to the following individuals. James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Sally Yates, Susan Rice. Andrew McCabe Peter Struck Lisa page and Bruce or not only are they all Trump crew. Some of those under evaluation are closely tied as you know to the Russia investigation our own Andrea Mitchell reports. The president's own director of national intelligence. Dan Coats was not aware in advance of today's announcements announcement nor were other senior intelligence officials. The White House was asked for evidence that John Brennan had actually somehow abused his clearance, but declined to provide any. Have any reason to believe or evidence to suggest Brennan has misused classified information or monetize access to as was alleged earlier by this ministry. Again, I'm laid out the reasons for the decision that was made on this specific instance. We'll continue to review the other actions manager, absence of you not saying those things you didn't find it? No, I would make any assumptions. I'm telling you what the decision was based off on. In this case today statement, pulling Brennan security clearance was dated July twenty six. That was a big indicator that it was standing by on the skids ready for weeks and was pulled out and announced just today. John Brennan is famously one of the stone cold faces in that photo taken in the White House situation room. The night, Osama bin Laden was killed. Finding bin Laden was a huge part of his job and his life's work after nine, eleven Phil Rucker of the Washington Post. Put this out tonight. It shows Brennan's major postings in his decades of. Service to this country, much of clandestine CIA station, chief Saudi Arabia CI station chief director of terrorist threat integration center director of national counterterrorism center, White House, homeland security adviser. CEA director briefed three presidents earlier Brennan himself spoke by phone with our colleague, Nicole Wallace. I do believe that Mr. Trump decided to take this action. She's done with others to try to intimidate him suppress any criticism of him or his administration. And we've, oh ki my security clearances is is way of trying to get back at me and this is not going to turn me at all. I'm going to continue to speak out. I think he fears individuals who could damage him damage his his standing on the American people look at the way he's been referring to Muller Muller who is a national treasure. And I common within the law enforcement and Justice communities who's doing his level best to investigate Russian interference in the election and the denigration of Bob Muller as well as his team of investigators is is reprehensible. I think Mr. Trump is getting more and more concerns were more desperate. I would say more and more frightened as there is a closer and closer magnification of some of the things that those around him have been involved in just a short time ago tonight to other Intel chiefs, who's clearances are under review also spoke out. The White House just messaged the entire American intelligence community. If you stand up and say, things that upset the president or with which he disagrees, he will punish you. And that is a horrible message to be sending to folks who are there to tell you objective truth, the bigger issue here, Chris to me is what this implies the implications of this for the first amendment. And the other question I have is, where does this end? Both of those two gentlemen have fifty plus years

"Savior it's all nonsense this is just the fact that they don't like the fact that oh that trump is doing conservative things and they are working the country is doing better the world is doing better are are foreign policy is working they just hate an everything they accuse us on this is the other thing everything they accuse us of they do this thing about trumping the thar terry and sarah sanders gives her first press conference after being hounded out of this restaurant and they say to her are you cutting before they say to her are you going to do nothing is the aren't you going to do anything about these the immigration problem why don't you just make law into to a response nothing actually went to change the administration is not changing anything right now when it comes to jimmy walking around making up laws no because we're not the obama administration we're actually trying to enforce the laws that are on the books were actually asking congress to do their part in the process and pass new legislation that will fix our immigration system the brown like this so this is the president is complaining about this and saying that we shouldn't have on these judges and people would come over she just put out but nothing is actually going to change he's just saying he's just complaining about the process as it stands now things that we have the ability to do administratively we are working to do but again congress is the only one that has the ability to write law we hope they'll do that so the cues of the most vile things simply for disagreeing with a mess the first thing they accuse us of wouldn't they are guilty of doing they do that all the time but the other thing and possibly the most important thing is the way they wrap us in the mental prison of political correctness in order to silence now there's a thing that happened the other day about david bossie unitive bossy from citizens united a guy i know like him he's on fox news and this is important it's important that is fox news because it's important to show that it has gotten into the minds of conservatives and he's arguing with a another guy i don't know who this is exactly it was black and they're having a back and forth about immigration and david listen to what david bussey says michael hayden posted a picture of auschwitz die talk at liberal michael hayden screaming you're out of your cotton picking mind condo you you on on the the i got some i got some relatives okay on tv on fat and pick your out of your mind out of your mind okay i'm going to leave it right there it's ridiculous what's gone on in america this is what we're about now i'm sorry but the phrase cotton picking mind is not a racial phrase he was suspended david busing was suspended by fox for a week because they have to prove to their audience because the left so owns the culture they have to prove to their audience that was not a reference to slavery which is not gotten picking a word that people use to get around cursing basically so they route of your so mind instead of you say you're out of your cotton picking mind it's an old phrase if david bossy were a bigot if he were a racist he wouldn't have used it he would have been too careful not to expose himself but because he's dealing with this man as man to man he's dealing with a to man he said to him what he would have said to me he said the same thing to him that he would have said to me and yet they can tar anything taller i said tar tar is black i mean come on you saying are you saying black is bad because it it's you know i mean come on they can do anything because they have rap people in this mental prison because they've made it there they have seized the the the linguistic high ground they have they can tell us when we've been bigoted even though we haven't been that too is uncivil that too is only an illusion of civility what can left this way that we can accuse them of being racist nothing when when harry reid said racist things about obama when joe biden said racist things i was just a gaffe it was just a mistake but if david bossie says cotton picking mind a phrase with absolutely no racial connotation whatsoever he suspended for a week that's the other thing that is.
