Forty niners after a tough win on sunday the niners were looking their wounds and there were quite a bit of them yesterday here. Are the injury updates from. Kyle shanahan defensive back josh. Norman is day to day with an ankle injury. Defensive tackle giovane kin law is still day to day with that knee injury. Kind of the same thing he was last week. They will monitor it. Going forward defensive lineman erik armstead is going to be monitored as well just like last week with the ad strain defensive lineman kevin gibbons has a high ankle sprain and we'll be out quote a while same thing goes for running back to michael. Hasty trae sermon has a concussion. He's in the nfl. Concussion protocol and elisha. Mitchell has a shoulder injury and is day today. Obviously with all the injuries at the running. Back spot kyle mentioned the kerryon johnson could be called up from the practice squad. In addition to the team adding another veteran and shanahan got into that a little bit according to him workouts or schedule with tj. Yeldan duke johnson and lamar miller. Now i should point out that shinhan also mentioned that technically michael hasty is the only running back. That's definitely out next week. So we'll see how that kinda shakes out but they're not working out all those running backs for no reason. I think they know at least one of those guys is not going to be able to go and they wanna have a veteran presence there now for the main thrust of today's episode the complete lack of contribution from the first three rounds of this year's draft. Just i know it's early but hear me out through two games. The forty niners have gotten a grand total of fourteen snaps from their first three rounds of the draft. Trae lance had four snaps in week one none last week. Ambi thomas had nine snaps in week. One inactive last week trae sermon inactive in week one had one snap sunday in philadelphia. And that is it second round pick. Aaron banks has been inactive through the first two games of the season. And i'm sorry that is simply unacceptable. You cannot have almost half of your draft class. Contribute absolutely nothing and i know i know. They've gotten contributions from the amadora. Nor and elisha mitchell and that's great but guess what that's what those guys are supposed to do right. They didn't pick them because they expected them to stink. Of course it's good that they're getting run here but they should get run very upsetting to me. What is happening right now. With this draft picks and when asked about the lack of snaps for trae lance and whether that will hurt his development. Here's something kyle said yesterday. Don't really make decisions based dr team of just putting a guy in totally just for how that is for him in the future. I think that'd be irresponsible to everybody else in the room. You do it if it gives you a chance. Based off of what's going on in that game that game only and the meantime. Yeah it's it's nice for a guy to get out there but if it wasn't because he is bringing a different element that we could help us with something that we're going against. There's no other reason that we would do it. I was stunned to hear that. Honestly like if that's how you're going to treat trae lance. What was the point of trading up to draft him. That's cool to have you know he's got to be an essential part of your team and the idea that there's no reason to play him other than if he helps you out that particular week just says you don't understand how to develop a quarterback or the quarterbacks need to be developed i mean surely shanahan knows this but all his actions say something different and i don't really care about what a coach says i care about what they do and what they're doing which ray lance and the rest of this draft class at least half of it is essentially wasting it on a team that's full of injured do's and full of veterans. You need some young blood in there. You need that injection of youth of energy. It's a long season now. It's a game longer so to see where they have started in the first two weeks. I know they want to games. And that is great but there are some things here that are troubling because the schedule is about to get a lot harder for the forty niners right. Obviously we know everybody knows week. Three sunday night football green bed. That's going to be tough enough after green bay though. I don't know if people have looked at it seattle at arizona. Which how good does arizona look right now with. Kyle murray's got nine touchdowns through two games. The colts who knows what the colts game is going to be. But they have a good defense then they go to chicago and then arizona again so the games are going to get a lot tougher for the forty niners. You're not playing the lions and the eagles every single week so their process is going to have to get a lot better if they are going to have success. And if you're not gonna use trae lance after the fourth quarter in philadelphia when you had zero first downs and fourteen total yards. When are you going to use. That's the thing that i can't shake out of my head. I hope. I hope it changes because right now. It doesn't seem to be logical. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. It all seems to be at the whim of kyle shanahan and i'm sorry that's not good enough. We knew that going into the game was going to be a grinder type of game away game coming off the west virginia. There's a lot of things going against us but guy stayed the course. And that's what you wanna see with guys. Just fred said resilient group and i only played together like that. we're playing good garoppolo finished twenty. Two of thirty for one hundred eighty nine yards and a touchdown. He also used his legs a lot. In this game he finished with a career. And they you know they were leading by quite a lot into the fourth quarter. So they weren't passing. I would take the over on that. The thing about smith is like they're going to get him touches either on screens or drop passes like we saw last week they. They're finding ways to get him the ball in space and so he's going to have a lot of opportunities in this game. I can honestly see him getting more than forty nine and a half on play. And trent williams even had a bad game so the eagles front can get after it a little bit. And that's going to be the big thing for me is what does jimmy garoppolo do. When he gets pressure because he basically was clean all last week he really didn't face it that much pressure at all But when he did he was able to shuffle his feet and extend the place. So that was encouraging. But it's going to be much much tougher this week. And i also wonder if he is under a bunch of pressure. Kyle shanahan say you know what forget it trae lance like. Get in there and run around and do some things. So i'm interested interested to see how that works out and it's really nice. They have trae lands in practice. This week you would think they have him in more for the defense to they have to be running those plays too. You know to contain trae lands. Because they're going to have to contain jalen hurts. it's nice. They have that type of quarterback in practice. Hopefully they're utilizing him correctly But yet you know we could see trae lanes come in this game a little bit more if we if we see the eagles you know jalen hurts doing saying jimmy. Garoppolo's can't keep up. We could see trae lance. What do you think is the biggest The biggest thing that the forty niners have to do this week. In order to beat the eagles. I clearly think they're a better team than you do. But what's the one. What's the one focus. You think the forty niners half to do to in order to win this game. I think they have to protect jimmy garoppolo or whoever whatever quarterback. They're like fifteen quarterback hits. That's ridiculous they just have to do a better job than that. It's it's not like the eagles have amazing. Pass rushers they. They have some solid players. But you gotta be able to block. All they need to do is just give jimmy garoppolo a few seconds to throw the ball and he seems to be able to function. And there's no excuse not to do it. You're supposed to be you know. Try think cannon was signed signed by the ravens because he plays on special teams. He was claimed by the forty niners. I would suppose they don't need extra runners. They need special teams reinforcements. So i wonder if the fact that they trade clinch claimed trent cannon suggests that another healthy scratch could be on the way for tracer man. I don't think to michael hasty given that. He played last week and especially played on third down but could be kind of interesting to monitor like. Maybe there's trae sermon absence longer than we expect. One hundred percent agree and look. I talked about this a lot. The last couple of seasons. You need to be wary of day. Two and three and undrafted rookie running backs. Michael carter and trae sermon. We're going in the sixth seventh eighth round drafts. I mean the history of these guys is not great. The bears last week faced. Probably a difficult match. Matchup as you're gonna find in terms of cornerback plays in the nfl against the rams. What's the outlook this week. And specifically what does it mean for allen robinson. Yeah it's quite the opposite actually situations. We're gonna talk about here. They were on the other lists. They were downgrades and week one now. They're upgrades here in week. Two so starting with hound robinson darnold either perimeter wide receivers for the bears. They're going to go up against it. Be a woozy for the bengals. Brought him from dallas in the off season. And eli apple. now they didn't wayne's. It's supposed to be that started. He was out last week then crazy. So he's gonna be out again this week for the bengals and look. They did struggle in that opener. They they won. I mean they upset the vikings that was impressive. But they'll twenty two catches two hundred and fifty yards in two touchdowns to minnesota's wide receivers. Obviously a terrific do there. But even k j. Osborne got in on the fun for the vikings in that game. They'll at the third most fantasy points to receivers. And i know that came over time even if you adjust for volume six worse against that position in terms of efficiency in week one. So it's a problem there. A woozy struggle tons of production. I won't get into the numbers there but apple might kill was heavily targeted. All three guys struggled. And that's notable because robinson was on the outside fifty seven percent of the time in week one mooney sixty two percent thing with these guys all over the field in this offense. So they're going to see all three corners. It's an upgrade situation. Like the bears receivers. This week i believe last week. If i saw the correct numbers that most of allen robinson's targets came opposite of jalen ramsey. Too who some consider the many consider the preeminent corner and football. So you're going from not just a tough match against the rams in general but the toughest match-ups against cornerbacks much favorable spot you've got robinsons. How your top ten mike. I am out on my top dan. And it's really nothing to do with robinson. The match up. It's probably just that wide. Receivers are super super talented this year. That like you get past the usual suspects that deandre hopkins in the tyreek stefan digs in even devante adams etc etc. And it's like the guys. I have between like eight and ten aren't some slouches. They are equally superstars whether it's just in jefferson or keenan allen our players of that calibre. Cd lamb in amari cooper. But we still all feel like a much better days ahead brown robinson. Yeah no doubt especially in this match up. The target is always huge. It was big last week. Even that tough match-up and again not the not the best start but again we expect that you know. He's facing off one of the best defense in the league and love that ramsey role. I mean the guy is so good that he plays the star. That's his position. He doesn't play a corner perimeter corner or safety or line but he's just all over the field they just use them however they need 'em every week it's amazing please. Football that guy is official. "They're going to run the football and that is just part of the system. I mean, just look back at the Mike Shanahan years with Denver and Washington. Different guy every year. And even this, you know, even with Kyle, you know four seasons that he's been the head coach. He's he's had four different leading rushers. And guess what? This year there will be 1/5 because I don't think it's don't think the leading Russia at the end of season is going to be Raheem Mostert, and I don't think the leading Russia at the end of season is going to be Jeff Wilson. So you know anybody other than the three guys that are going to be active on Sunday are going to be traced. Sermon ELISA, Malaysia, Mitchell and Michael Hasty. And again, I guess if it's uh if it's Elijah Mitchell stays healthy at this point. I think he's going to be the leading Russia this season, so no, I don't think it changes at all. And at some point help is going to be on the way to you know, they hope to get Mostert back middle of the season. Same thing with Jeff Wilson. They hope to get him back. So, uh, I just I think that the other their formula is with outstanding offensive line when it comes to run blocking in the actual yesterday. They're pretty good impact. Great yesterday. Yeah. Yeah. So with that run, blocking offensive line. It was basically 1/6 offensive lineman it in George Kittle. Now I don't think it changes at all. I think there that the formula stays the same, regardless of who it is that they're handing the ball off to Matt Male Co. Joining us as he does every week here on the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooks Show that nine or offensive line Open up holes in the run game, but Jimmy Garoppolo all sorts of time He had no pressure coming from the ends. He had no pressure coming from up the middle, which is always problematic for any quarterback, and I guess the The formula is, If Garoppolo has a clean pocket to operate in, he's gonna make some throws. He's gonna make some plays. That was the case yesterday. Yeah. I mean, I think that's you know any NFL quarterback That's probably the thing And I think he feeds well off of this formula. I mean, I don't think Jimmy is the kind of guy and we saw him. Do it in 2019, though, against the Saints in particular and It's the Rams and the Seahawks Games later in the season. You know, there were times where they put it on him. You know, Jimmy, go win a football game. I don't think that The standard, though you know, I don't think they do that every week. You know, it's kind of it's a I think they make it easy on him or easier on him because of The running game and just how everything fits together. And you know, the defense has always been strong. The defense yesterday certainly has a lot of room for improvement, but you know, there's there's always this kind of feeling that deal before year's defense is going to be good, so You know the worst thing there. I should say the, um you know, I'm a 3rd and 12. They can do a whole lot worse than drop loads, throwing the ball out of bounds and putting, you know and playing defense and getting the ball back and Going forward again. So, um, no, I think I think Rob Lowe. He's definitely coming off his best offseason, his best training camp. And I think we saw yesterday where he just He looked in control. He looks he looks good. He looks solid. He looked better than solid, so if they can get that kind of performance from him More times than not, or on a weekly basis. You know, he will keep Trey Lance at arm's length, I think throughout this season Maddie. You know, we Warner is incredible and green laws. Incredible. Uh, do do you think Greenlaw is going to go against Philly? And and to me that the big eye opener in this game was just How incredible. Um, as as these out Shakira has become, I mean, he just starts his people and he's so fast. He's so aggressive, but now he really knows the defense. He's playing fast. And he had, you know, I would say three or four impact hits where he separated the ball carrier or the receiver from the football talk a little bit about this linebacking corps. I mean, we all thought they were good, but I mean, if you're going to play like that, This might be the best linebacking corps or at least among them in the game. In just a young group. Two guys who just haven't been in the league all that long. You know the heat his final season in college. He had a CL tear, and it was just Heartbreaking for him because you know he grew up in a very rough situation, the homeless for a period of time, and he kind of saw football as his Skills that was kind of the end game and and he had the terror he would have been probably a mid round draft pick. That year, The 49 ers ended up sending him as a free agent and undrafted rookie. And yet he was on the bubble that first year, But there was I forget who the veteran guy is that they kept him over. But the thinking was that this guy can be a starter in this league, and he can be a starter pretty soon and that my dad already had Green Law and and Fred Warner. So I think what you saw on Sunday was he's now in his third year. He understands his role. He knows that defense and so I think because of him, there's no reason to push it with Greenlaw. Greenland has the groin. So I think there because of because of the guys they have there and Demetrius plan against thousands is a pretty good player as well. Good special teams guy and learning more and more how to play. Uh, linebacker in the NFL after being a safety in college, So I think because of that, um out here has a chance to be this week and every down linebacker right now he's playing that Sam position. Which in today's NFL means you're on the field about a third of the time because when they go with the Nickelback Key. Juan Williams comes in and I'll share it goes out, so I would think that if it's close, and if there's they feel that there's a risk of Greenlaw aggravating that injury and having it become worse..

In fact, his worst professional game they got beat 38 3 by the scenes. We get more into the NFL, but a lot of quarterbacks coming and they got to get that figured out. And that all changed when Raheem carried the ball twice and he goes out. So I'm sure a lot of people are wondering about Trey Sermon versus Elijah Mitchell. We could feel that coming Once Mitchell got healthy and clearly the week of practice leading up to the lion game, and even before that, Trey sermon. The one thing that's good about him is he runs kind of like a veteran. He's a patient runner kind of Levian bell like, But lady in Bell is Levian Bell, and he's not leaving on bell anymore. We'll see in the night against the Raiders. Playing for Baltimore, but he's lost his juice, but If you want to play for Bobby Turner, uh, being patient is not the way to go.
