"The frostbitten feet from the cryogenic chamber that has hindered him kept them out of almost must all of training camp so there has been a disconnect with brown and the raiders he is getting treatment on his own and now more now so so michael galkina the las vegas review journal reports that brown is expected to rejoin the raiders quote in the near future which is good news <hes> but then mike silver our own. Mike silver drops a silver bom bom. We need some type of silver bonding eight twenty part threat now you can ask hey mike. Why didn't you just use the open document and write all this stuff and send out one tweet. I would imagine maybe there's a social media reason vira lead to have twenty twenty point well. It's pain offense depends. I look at it live. He tweets are so there. It is a twenty part thread that gets more into what is going on between antonio brown and the raiders behind the scenes and greg this is all over the place but the short of it is is that yes he has this foot issue going on but there's more behind the scenes including issue issue with the n._f._l.'s wanted helmet safety rules that has caused a major havoc behind the scenes. Let's start there. What do you say in the silver threat. Well antonio brown is upset about the n._f._l.'s enforcement of helmet regulations. Basically they have taken helmets which have been tested to be less safe and provide less protection against concussions out of the mix. This has been a multi year process. They had kind of a year last year where players could still wear some of the helmets that were towards the bottom of the unsafe but they had to get out of it aaron rodgers. Tom brady where some of these players that were still wearing the old helmets. Let's once he got to this off season..

"Of lyman in n._f._l. History with thirty six six point two five million dollars for a guarantee of his march thirteenth signing in so that there's that addition on tony brown that him the a trade and also resigning his the contract you we worked at deal you also sign cairo williams the raiders top target at the wide receiver position in free agency so so we do those sorts of moves its its intent designed that it will be a quick turnaround and the the raiders believe that wide receiver is probably the most upgraded physician group on their roster <hes> not just in tony brown and tyrod cairo. Williams obviously weren't start but he also added some ryan. Grant veteran could be the number three type of receiver. Although it'll be very interesting again to see the aforementioned renfro someone the raiders traded up to select during the fifth round of the draft somebody out of clemson who you see the ability to contribute out of the slot the strongest guy you know the largest you know the fastest suspend quick in and out of his brakes got very reliable hand. I'm spite again having the largest satanic i mean there's no part of the physical miracles with refund renfro where you say wow but then you turn on the film and you find a real steady contributor someone who had his biggest moments in college on the biggest stages germs of national champion games <hes> somebody the raiders are really excited to get so i think with renfrew edition that sort of puts the cap on the offense and particularly the wide receiver grouping the answer in terms of what area of the raiders rosters most improved could think of another wide receiver from the the past that kind of had the same physical attributes as a hundred renfro does and that's wes welker and thanked worked out pretty well for him in the n._f._l. N._f._l. so looking forward to seeing this guy can do yeah. We'll see what he can do. I think a big part of his ability to contribute your one will be defined by his ability not necessarily learn the slop position. You know it's pretty clear he knows that obviously got to become familiarized with joggers playbook and with aspartame when the line in that spot but he needs to know how to play ex he needs to know how to play you know the other positions because the raiders are gonna move there guys around and they're gonna asking tony brown the lineup in the slot sometimes and rent for a wants to be on the field when during eleven personnel and tony brown the thought renfro learn how to i play the and so those sorts of conversations that they'd already had with him and he seems like a smart guy who loved no trouble picking up the offense and the bolts position that this entails so we'll see over the course of training camp <hes> how does and how there's but <hes> the reason we're really excited about where wide receiver the real interesting component to this as well is how derek carr bill chemistry was so many receivers at once and you look at what the raiders had go into the last season you know antonio amari cooper he's not here. <hes> you know it was sent roberts. He's not here just go down the list of guys jordy nelson order here <hes> it's a it's a whole group and so we'll see how it all comes together definitely so and on the flip side on the defensive end if you look at cleveland feral well. I think that this guy is already going to be under a huge microscope because he was the number four pick overall in the n._f._l. Draft and the raiders had people kind uh-huh questioning that pick why so early and make made clear to us when he spoke after the draft that there were two guys on his board at that position to take at that spot nick bosa clean feral and that's how he justified it and i can gather that with all things that i've seen from mayo when he did these mock draft back in the day and <hes> he had a good assessment of what players bringing to the table. Do you think that cleland furlough is going to be able to handle this kind of pressure and being under that kind of microscope any doubt about it so you don't see with certainty but when you look at this guy's mental makeup just the way he it comes from a military family. You mentioned earlier lost. His father is a. He's just responded to diversity of course of his life. He became such should should an energetic eater at clemson. You know war captain c on his jersey. He's just somebody who is mental profile. Is i mean if it was based on how a guy is built between the years and years alone it would this'll be the number one overall pick. I mean he's a rare rare type of guy <hes> for a person as a character standpoint just lights out grades in that area and so maybe when you look at <hes> who wowed people at the combine and you know those sorts of components and even to some degree when you turn on film you know cleveland furloughs jump out guy who's is going to have fifteen seasons. That's just not we this is. This isn't a nickel back. It's not who supposed to be. It's not why he was brought to the raiders. He was brought to the raiders. I to lead to be a steady contributor who can really lead this locker room. Essentially for a decade they believe that cleveland for that of individual and that is who is going to be asked to become. It's tough to be that sorta leader right away but when you look at where the raiders are from defensive offensive line standpoint and certainly defensive end. There's not a lot of the sacco leaders <hes> to which broke in just kind of for that role you know he's going to have to be that guy in that room right away and i think that'll be a role that i'm with but again it's can you be heartily when you're when performing or you're not healthy so froze its eta focus on i the football side and the leadership aspect from point naturally for him to take care of itself and off season workouts will get underway. That's the o._t. As that were denied team activities will get underway on may twenty first so we hope to get more of a look at some of these picks and just what what is gonna come together for them on the field but like you said michael. We don't get that much time out there. We get probably about twenty minutes to half hour to really get an assessment of anybody out there on the field during this time <hes> so won't be until the training camp starts that you can really see how things come together especially when they put pads on. That's always it's the best day i think of the off season training but yeah we we do get <hes> rotea eight for many campuses in june. <hes> the veteran mandatory make camp. We see each <hes> when we're out there so there's not a practices we have access to three of them and for those three o._j. Practices even though a pattern on we're able to see everything for those three days we are able at the entirety of practices which helps <hes> so we'll start to get a good idea yeah but like you said i do not until passionately come on. Can you get a strong sense as to where a guy is. I remember <hes> coach. I spoke to you about when i was covering high school sports in san diego early in my career and he was talking about just at the high school will sometimes think you've got this this you know maniac of football player someone who's going to be a huge asset for your team and then the patch come on and he couldn't tackle a pillow and you just never mind so obviously that's a bit of a <hes> stark difference. That doesn't quite happen at the n._f._l. Level but it does exist from forum where you think guys a player <hes> but some guys look veteran pads. Some guys look worse than passing so ultimate against pat so you wanna reserve <hes> running back because this particular certain spots <hes> you know positions are different but <hes> you wanna wait until the pads commodity preseason games and then regular season. It's just gradual accumulation relation of valuation at starts in the spring and o._t. As are the best indicators because offense defense against each other but again all sort of evaluations must be cushioned because right now these practices are fairly christian all right everyone as promised right now on the hotline and we have j t the brick again you can catch his show on fox sports radio here in las vegas ninety eight point nine f._m. Starting at four pm monday through friday j._t. Thank you so much for taking the time to join us here on the vegas nation podcast really happy to be here. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it. Thank you again in your on the line here with both michael michael galkina raiders beat writer and me and we were actually just having a little conversation about hard knocks it still as of right now at one o'clock on a tuesday afternoon has not been said whether or not the raiders will be chosen to be on the show. We know the brass doesn't want to see the team on hard knocks but j._t. What what reason would you want to see the raiders on that show or i wouldn't want to the raiders this year because they have too much happening. There's too many outside influences lawrence's with the schedule which they got royally screwed on the schedule with all the travel and everything that they have to do. They're in a transition year moving to las vegas where many of the staff is already down in vegas and they're building a stadium and the practice facility and all that and why would you wanna have hard knocks be up there when a lot of people aren't going to beat their other than training camp which i get than the writers have challenging preseason schedule on top of it. I think it would make for much better television when the facilities opened in las vegas and you have an opportunity to see the backdrop of the new stadium as they're moving in and it it makes a lot more sense. I mean oakland's unbelievable in this great story line still in oakland but politically and everything that's happened up there. I'd much rather wait to see the glitter litter of las vegas and i think the waiters would rather see that too and this year like you mentioned the raiders the they've been a kind of building up from the off season then with all their moves here in free agency and kind of building a roster that is going to take this team hopefully into the next phases a competition titian of from what we saw last year so i wanted to get your take on some of the draft picks up the raiders have made <hes> specifically the top three the first rounders the raiders chose for this team and how these players are going to make an immediate impact while they have to make an immediate impact. I think it's critical for the waiters haters who over the last five six seven years. I've been with the team over twenty that at times they swing and miss with the draft and they get a bunch of guys who are developmental dental pliers that they'd like to develop into starters. I think they got three players. In the first round our instant starters <hes> no doubt about it with cleveland we went for al he's gotta come in and be the edge rusher that they haven't been able to now over the last couple years the waiters haven't had a stud star defensive end in quite some time so as captain of a national championship team as the winner of the ted hendricks award who beat out both obviously because both got injured and didn't come back when he was healthy from the injury they wanted to have a pure defensive end instead of an edge linebacker in josh allen or something similar to what they had with khalil mack so gotta play and he's gonna play a high level and he's got to develop into a pro bowl talent because when you take someone number four overall he needs to be a pro bowler in his first few years with josh jacobs. That was no doubt the player that the raiders targeted more the nanny in the first round..

"And in in the first round, Michael Galkina, the Las Vegas review journal wrote yesterday, something really smart that we all should have figured, okay. And he said he doesn't think that Oakland is going to pick a quarterback in the first round the reason. That's so interesting is because you know, I've been told all along be careful about giving the cardinals Cuyler Murray. Might happen. But I I had I had a friend of Steve time tell me last week categorically, I just don't think they're taking Cuyler Murray. I think they're going to trade the pick. They trust their ability to to pick players, especially high. I think they're going to go for the bonanza rather than Cuyler Murray because they believe the cliff Kingsbury can coach this quarterback very very well Josh Rosen now so he's going to be twenty or twenty five percent better than what he was. And they're gonna have a better team around him, whatever. But look I mean, if it's not the raiders who who's going to be who would trade up for Cuyler Murray, if not the raiders and I trust Michael, Gilkey. He's a very good beat guy. But I would want to know from from Mike Mayock, what are you thinking? And if you convinced your head coach just stay where we are in the top forty. Let's get four franchise altering players. Rather than try to hit a home run? And then have to go trae, Derek Carr. Okay. But we'll let's say you can't trade that number one pick. Right. If you're zone. Yeah. I gotta take Murray. I would I think you have to take Mary. Okay. And then what you do is. You trade Josh Rosen to Washington either for whatever I think they have the forty fifth pick or something like that or seventy sixth pick and get something else back. But that's what I would do. You know, look the coach obviously loves Cuyler Murray. If you have that pick. I think that you ought to just sit there and take the great quarterback moso wondering about this that a lot of times. The draft is top heavy. We want the marquee people. The guys we've seen that. We know. We're not talking about defensive tackles here. Right. Is there an impact player that we're missing out on because he doesn't play one of the glamour position? It's probably the tight end from Iowa Hawkins sin. Who is it is a really really complete tight. It in. And the one reason why I would tell you this in is that there's a lot of scouts who've gone into Iowa this year. And there is maybe only Nick Sabin. When scouts go into a program. They don't trust anybody except maybe Nick Sabin. They don't trust any head coach more than Kirk Fahrenson, Iowa, Kurt Kirk farance is a beloved coach on the trail because he's coached in the NFL. He coached under Bill Belichick. He's had multiple opportunities. If he snapped his finger. He could have an NFL coaching job. He's loved in the NFL. And he believes right now that Hopkinson is the type of tight end who if you said, you gotta be Mark Bavaro Wiley probably wouldn't be Margaret with a blocker. But he could be a gronk type. I'm not saying he'll be as good as gronkowski. But he's a great to way tight in. I think the answer to your question is probably Hopkinson or Quinton Williams. Who obviously is a do it all everything defensive tackle right now? Bill Belichick said something interesting about trying to gauge. How good a college receiver is or tackles offensive lineman. The game is different certainly offensive lineman. It feels like it's harder to find those great offensive lineman. Why is it because of what is being taught in college? Well, if you look at Dan, I don't watch college football. But after the season, I went back in watched a couple of games of Cuyler Murray. Because I I don't I mean who is this guy looks like who's got the body of Mukhi Betts who could be the first pick in the draft because he slight, you know, I don't think you'll play it to seven by the way, I think he'll play at one ninety eight. I mean, he's he, you know, you want him to be that quick fast whippet guy. But if you watch it when I was watching some of these things you watch how wide his offensive linemen are set. So you say, well, he only got five passes batted down all year that's less than hat can Haskins in lock who are a lot taller than him. So you watch that. But then you say he's going to have a lot. Narrower lanes in the NFL. There's two things about about him that I think worry some people in the NFL one is that that his line will be a little bit more like this than like this then fanned out like that. And also. His two receivers CD lamb and and Brown. Are two of the fastest guys in tandem. I have to imagine that if ever been on a college football team, they both look like they're like just Sean Jackson. You know, they're they they so often left their coverage in the lurch. And I'm not I'm not criticizing Cuyler Murray for this. But he had a lot of guys open. You know last year. I thought Haskins did to it Ohio State. Yeah. He had some great receivers. He did. He did. But but anyway, the point I'm making is that I look I believe right now that that the offensive line play will be different in the NFL. But look look at Cuyler Murray's history. He's the smallest guy on the field, basically all through high school, and he goes forty five. And now, he's the smallest guy at Oklahoma. And whatever they go fourteen in one, I don't even know what they want. But, but you know, the guys lost one game since he was about in diapers and. He just he figures it out. That's when I was talking to Lincoln Riley. He goes this this talk about his height. He said, I realized these players are better the NFL is going to be better. And it's a big challenge. But he said guys like Cuyler Murray and Baker Mayfield. They just don't care. You know, they're going to figure it out now. You know, that's easy to say. But I'm probably more in the I believe in Cuyler Murray more than don't he'd good to see, you know, Dan. Thank you. It's a football morning in America every Monday exclusively at NBC sports dot com. Peter King how your Red Sox? It's not a good. Isn't that good? Sorry about just how about I think. This is right. The six and nine Yankees against the six and eleven Red Sox tonight. Yeah. The big ball yard in the South Bronx. Yeah. I don't know. No, I'm not going. But that's a why that is so weird to see. Both teams struggling even the Yankees will all their injuries. That's that's a weird deal pitched either. Neither team has picked NBC sports dot com. You create difficult morning in America. Peter's mock draft out next Monday, and it's going to be grim, please, I beg you. Thank you. Don't read my column next three then everybody's gonna know. Long. "The tigers. Like, I said oh and four away from the box this season. Will they be able to take a bite out of the BULLDOGS? LSU coach Paul Mainieri will join us at five thirty five you've just joined us. Saints added a return specialist to the mix Marcus cheryl's. According to a source also defensive back shells has five career. Punt return touchdowns with Minnesota. Vikings been with him since two thousand and ten averages a career of ten point four yards per return on average, he also holds five Viking special teams records pretty strong. They needed that upgrade they've been needing that upgrade for a few years. They've been trying to get more out of the return game. Tommy lewis. He was a fair catch guy. Maybe a couple of yards. They're here. And there when you're getting it done it over ten yards, Paul return on average. That's a first down. That's why that's the magic number. That's one less. I down the offense has to get. You can see why they looked at that. And said, yeah, we need to go out there and sign Marcus cheryl's saints been busy and free agency. Adding Mario Edwards, Malcolm Brown re-signing. Teddy bridgewater. Adding Nick east into the mix center, Marcus cheryl's now closing in on a deal with Jared cook. We'll grade saints free agency next week breakdown. "And we'll see how they play where they play an held. Oh, yeah. And all you are you buying are you buying low or selling high on the raiders interest? John gruden's infatuation with Murray. I'm gonna tell I'm going to sell. I think there's just more fantasy. I think the that the cardinals got him and do you really want to get wait? Derek Derek Carr der cardio's they'll say, Derek. Do you think that the raiders really want to make their car feel any like any insurgency with his spot as quarterback? No, I don't I really believe John Gruener says I love their car. And I believe way says that these gear car seeing have relation in grooms always hard is quarterbacks. And they said that last year that it would be inserted with your car. But this next year, I think dear car is going to have a great year in Johnson's offense end. There will be no more, no more rumors of him and. Tyler maury. I think dare car as starter in fall. Even why even go ahead and give it any kind of thought or competition with Comber because I wanna see I wanna see Murray like really get off this season. I don't want him to be sending behind Derek Carr. Exactly. I don't either. Because Derek Carr is unquestioned starter any better ride with him because he knows the offense and his second years only going to be better. And this next year. I really believe that Keiler Murray. I mean, I vaguely that their car is going to do wonders and imagine if you Tony Brown with him, then possibly what I'm saying the possibly like a lady, I bel- are if my tape no not potatoes, Tony Brown or. Oh, you have leaving bell. Or if you possibly have. I know they put Jalen chard buy if you bring back a player like Marshon land or you get another running back in the draft. Like, Bryce love out, Stanford tours ACL aunt. But if you give player like that, I think he can really compete. I think brought the, you know, raiders ROY a team to watch out for next year because going back to what we talked about with Antonio Brown. I saw report out earlier this week that are early stay. Actually, there is someone talking about and Twitter sank imagine. If the waiters got in Tony Brown and only had trade way like one of their wideouts or one of the players and. And then only trade way a late first or early second. I mean, that's let's say as value that we all know of ES, which is six pick. But if you draft if you trade for him with that high thing, it's nice as they once wind, but the raiders would have too much to say I have three I imagine Antonio Brown as a first pick and the first pick because half of them don't even stick around in after the first round. But you know, Antonio Brown would. So you want waste to pick. Then because it's you know, there have the plays going selector not going turn out in the NFL and year after year, you see this happening allow draft players even turn out better. And Tony Brown the six round pick. He turned out dining I pick. And so the sixth round exactly so. These players in the first round are, you know, I think are going to pan out raiders imagine. Tony Brown's one of those first you bring in a player like Josh Allen, an outside linebacker from Florida who according to Michael Galkina, the Las Vegas review journal, Alan likes, the idea of suiting up in the sewer black this partnership as he explained during his press comments would be mutually beneficial. The raiders would snag it impact player that believes he is best player the tire draft and Allen will continue to grow into a dominant force for learning from Paul Guenther and looking at this. And then you know, you have an extra pick in the first round you draft you draft a defensive back in let's say Byron Murphy from Washington you draft of wide Seaver like Paris in otherwise speedy Pierce county..

"You're actually starts on Wednesday. But couple deals coming in trae flowers to the lions Landon Collins to Washington, we'll get into some of those deals coming up, but we want to talk about the raiders and of this in Tonio Brown deal. So let's head to the shell Pennzoil performance line. Michael Galkina covers the raiders for the Las Vegas review journal, Michael we were just talking about this. But how much do you think the raiders actually are worried about or took into account not the weird Instagram videos, but Antonio Brown's existing domestic violence case his ongoing dispute over the furniture throwing the speeding the missing of the final game, those real tangible problems, not just the social media diva behavior. Great cause for internal concern. There was a lot of dialogue within the raiders over organization about the very issues. You've mentioned they had to balance. Some of those officers field concerns with who were the player is production with the free agent market or like their of itself. You know, what would be available at vision CARA Williams, excited them, but you know, in terms of being a potential number one option for Derek card, but it really wasn't much there in frigging teams of the raiders struck out on Williams, what would be their with the draft capital with the new contract. And that was a real big sticking point. There was a lot that the raiders way. This wasn't an easy answer that they found two arrived at in terms of pursuing Tonio Brown took a lot. It was a fluid situation and eventually as a raiders worth their way through it. They were comfortable to make. Antonio Brown the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history. Jon Gruden LEGO Marquette came because that was too much attitude and too much style and swag on her. We know what happened between he and Keyshawn Johnson when he was in Tampa Bay, what makes this situation any different other than the fact that he's a little bit older. I'm sorry. I went out can you repeat the last part of the question. What makes this situation the relationship pending relationship between Antonio Brown any different than the beliefs that he's held with players who have similar differences in opinion in attitude. All civil for me to speak to some of the previous ones, you mentioned certainly pretty raiders. But really in Tony around Jon Gruden has seen him practice and seen his work ethic and see how he stays after on the field and get extra work in. He understands who in Tonio Brown is as a football player, that's the attraction here. There's a what is Tony brain from t to your football team on the field and around it, including practice sort of mentor. He can beat young players. He believes until you Brown. The difference maker, obviously, a Twi excited him, you know, 'cause he's seeing Antonio Brown eyes and ESPN broadcaster when Gruden was making the rounds. There's all thirty two Priscilla. She saw how around operated. Hind the scene of more into for apartment for Jon Gruden. That's what really made him feel this was right move for the raiders organization and not just because of what he brings on field on Sundays. But throughout up practicing week it a bit onic given that until you're ground skip that practice and mild game, but base for but that's still is if forgotten Gruden wasn't knowing point stayed in fit sarahspain Jason golf with you talking to Las Vegas review journal's Michael gal, can you can follow him at gal kin NFL. I wonder you know, the raiders at four wins last year, the Gruden seemed to be focusing everything on the future. They didn't give away any of those first round picks in this deal. But Antonio Brown is at his peak. Now is this a team that's trying to win..

"Anytime anywhere. Focal office. To get a couple of points of these games are important. And I think we know that it should be brought up at some point tomorrow that these are important news. I think every game's important now. And like I said it's important for us to limit our focus the one game at a time and knowledge Florida too much. I know we have a lot of home games coming up here. And it's a good stretch for us to really take advantage of the opportunity to be home. Tomorrrow games Jack Eichel and the sabres before the big seven game homestand. The two road games are tonight and tomorrow night in Columbus tonight, seven o'clock in Dallas tomorrow night at eight thirty of course, both games right here on WJR eight. Oh three excuse me, eight oh three. Oh, five fifty to join us this morning. Eight eight eight five fifty to five fifty. So you got I got one one to the break. You asked me hockey player. I would be rooting for to win the company big way like Ovechkin. Yes, I've got the right answer who we should all be rooting for. Okay. Got a great nickname too. Okay. I feel like the answers. I have won't be right answer. Now. I feel what are they? I actually wrote down a couple of guys. I wrote down Ryan Miller. Nope. I mean, sure. But I knew it wasn't going to be right. But I wrote down Ryan Miller I'd like to see him. I've always had a soft spot for Ryan Callahan. You know, plus, he's a Rochester guy. I just always appreciated him as a player and he didn't win with the Rangers. And he's got a great chance to win one in Tampa. So I thought either either him or Ryan Miller. Is your answer Paul Byron? No, all three are not a former sabre, great nickname, great nickname. This is the right answer on the one player in the league. We should all be rooting for to win the Stanley Cup older guy. Like you've been around for awhile. Forever thornton. Yup. Yeah. I had on my list. But he was like third or fourth. Joe thornton. Not only because he's a great player. He's a hall of Famer, but every single player in the league seems to say he's one of the best guys teammate game. Craig reveals raves about him in the instigators. So yeah, Joe thorn, and with comes Polski and Carl and burns tour, I put San Jose down as a team. But I think when you think about San Jose you immediately. I did I thought Thornton because that's a franchise. That's been so close has had some playoff disappointments and Thornton is just right Thornton's one of the top players been been league forever. And you know, what you're going to get from this guy. The guy just gives everything he's got his team. No matter what I always go back to the crappy took in Boston to always felt sorry for him back. Then I thought he was blamed a little bit too much for what happened in Boston. And then was traded. It was a really bad idea to trade him out of Boston. So yeah, that's I like that. And you like his beard and like his beer does. He still have it. Did he shave? There's also a piece Pierre LeBrun put up a peace over the weekend. The all star game was just in San Jose. And he took it as an opportunity to point out until reflectively. San Jose's a first-class organization. They've been winning for a long time. They're good. They've passionate fans. It's hockey in California that does work and has for a long time. So yeah, I'd be cool with San Jose. If San Jose one, I also may have put some units on them when they traded for Carlson, but that's beside the point. Yeah, you might have a rooting interest in the San Jose small one. You know, what they need is a goalie? They are very good. They just need a goal. Yeah. Well, they're deep at forward and their deep on defense. You know, it's it's nice. If you you put on a power play unit or maybe you're down a goal late in game. And you can throw Eric Carlson and Brent burns on the defense at the same time. So there they've got quite a quite an arsenal players. Yeah. I think if there is one team Ovechkin was such an easy answer. I I don't know if Thornton's not in Ovechkin territory, I think in terms of national like North America hockey fans across the continent. Pulling for a guy to win the Cup and Jonathan would be hard pressed if you won the Cup to reach the celebratory standard set by Alex Ovechkin who seemed to be drunk all last summer. But but I think in terms of teams sure when when the sharks would they lose to Pittsburgh, right? When they made it to the Cup final six game. I was rooting for the sharks not as much about. Hey, Pittsburgh's one cups. But yeah, they've been good for feels like what they've been in league probably wanted to San Jose getting the late ninety three ninety two ninety three. I was going to say ninety. I guess that's the that's the number that was in my head early nineties. Did they come in with Ottawa? Would they come in with Ottawa came in with Florida, right? No, Florida national ninety one sharks is ninety one who came in with. Anaheim or did Anaheim come in solo. Anyway, the sharks. I feel like they've been winning for twenty years. Even though they've been in the league for only what twenty six twenty seven. He seemed to have been a factor in the west now forever but have never been able to win a Cup. And I think we made it to the one final. So I think from a team standpoint that's a good fan base. It's not an expansion team. It's not Vegas comes in. And they're in the final that's a fan base. I think you would feel good for because they've been around for quite some time sharks came in and Ninety-one Ninety-two for a fee of forty five million dollars the next year. Ottawa in Tampa, the next year, Florida and Anaheim five teams added in three years Nashville in ninety eight ninety nine and then Atlanta, Columbus, Minnesota three teams in the span of two years Vegas in two thousand seventeen eighteen in Seattle Seattle, and how about the expansion fee in two thousand the blue jackets expansion fee was eighty million in Vegas. It was five hundred. So that would have been the most recent expansion was the blue jackets. Blue jackets and Minnesota eighty million each and it's going to be six fifty four Seattle six fifty it was five hundred or Vegas. Not too shabby not bad. So I guess, you know, maybe Batman's done something good for the National Hockey League. Sadly. Corey writes in someone you'd like to see when a cop Lindy Ruff. I forgot about Lindy. He is he's he's ranger staff. Yeah. Yeah. Know, I forgot about Lindy. That'd be a good one. Sure. Then you gotta deal with Jimmy Vesey winning a Cup. I'd never happened though. Because his teammates don't like him. Right. No. And he's a cancer. You know who would have been good to win the Cup. But now, they're retired. The sitting twins would have been nice. Yeah. That would have been really good with everything they had done for the sport with everything they had done in Vancouver. Two of the stars of the game. And. Great great. You know, I don't know them, obviously. But by all accounts, classy players everybody got along with them the fan favorites. Forever in Vancouver. That would have been nice if they would have won a Cup. They're okay. That's no longer happening. Rasmi stallion winning a Cup would be if you want to add somebody else to the list that'd be fine too. He might be the key to them making the playoffs. Right. You need to find Darlene in middle stat breaking through in the second half of their season. If mental stat could come could have a big second half that would open up so many possibilities. Now. You're right that they don't have that will trickle down effect on your second line. Now, you've got to scoring lines. And you know, maybe who knows maybe kickstarts the second power play whatever middle stat if he could really get into a hot streak would be fantastic because what other options are scoring down the middle. These it, right? He's really it. I mean Suka scored in thirty two games. That was Montreal. When he scored twice was it. I can't remember the last game. He scored it was somewhere November. So options down the middle in terms of scoring a really Casey medal stat. And if you could get going, you know, maybe that depending on who's playing on his line at the time. Maybe it sparks a Thomson or a Sherry or a post show palm Advil, whoever and you can start getting some help for the poor guys on the top line. Matthew in Rochester. You're on WGN. Go right ahead. Hey, guys. Appreciate the call. You doing good? Thanks for calling. Good. I just wanted to you know, from Rochester, followed, the Amherst and pilot and stuff like that. And you know, him not playing it's kind of a bummer, especially after Housley went through everything with Thomson. And then he's gonna play him go through his aches and pains and Kevin Kevin for awhile and kept saying, but now he's doing the exact opposite with pilot. Had ten days to send him down. Get a couple of games Rochester. They'll play in the all star game, and, you know, stay, fresher, whatever. But he keeps them up there. And then yet you're talking to sport. And that he's not even possibly tonight, and it's just very confusing the two opposites daddy's how he's handling rookie. Yeah. I I don't understand it either. It it's not even about development. He's better. I think there's a lot of proof to suggest the sabres are better when he plays. And we're not sure if he's going to be out tonight. But I. Even more. Puzzling to me is not scandal hunk what what's happening with hunter. He's played two games this year, and you need to put your best lineup on the on the ice. And I don't really have any reasonably that. Matt Horne week is the is the choice there. If Nelson was healthy enough. They probably would've played him over. I think Casey Nelson is so much more missed like, it's it's really. Not under reported. But you know, what I'm saying like underrated just kind of forgotten that Nelson makes them better too. And you're coming off the bye week. And you're not putting pilot out there. If you don't put pilot out there. I do think it's a mistake. Well, it's odd. Like like, you know, like Matthew referred to our caller that you didn't even send him down. Like, you could have you thought his game was really deteriorating. You could have sent him to Rochester during the by. And let him go play. Let him get is. And not be idle for it. Can you think you're better when he's at his best than get him? Right. And then get him back unless they thought maybe he mentally needed the break. Like, maybe they thought his game had broken down because of decision making. And here's Keith who was playing in Sweden kid. He's twenty two but I'm playing in Sweden. Now, he's here and he's playing a full season in the NHL, maybe mentally they thought he needed a break. So we're not consent him garage. We're going to let them take the week and a half off to refresh and come back. But then you would follow that up with. Okay, now, let's put him back in against Columbus. And see if. The break did him. Well, and if he struggled again, then maybe you'd make the switch. So I I don't get it. Like, I said Matthew, I I keep the island. I'm going to live on here is this is all about housi- wanting to tighten up the team's overall defensive play. And he feels it's time to put hundred back in for a game to see maybe he provides some improvement there. I'm grasping at straws. That's the only thing I could think of is that he's not happy coach is not happy with this team defensive effort. He thinks on wick is good for tonight to try and firm up things in their own end. Don't know what else. It could be a couple of things. Right, honestly, Williamsville central school district closed tomorrow and Thursday. Yeah. You're gonna start hearing that. Yeah. With the crazy, wind chills. I know the right now the buffalo public schools if we're talking wind chills of twenty five thirty five below and blowing snow tomorrow, you're not gonna wanna have kids standing at a bus stop. Yeah. And Michael Galkina reports raiders be writer for the Las Vegas review journal that the NFL which has yet to comment on the Nicole Roby Coleman flag against the saints. That'll happen. Roger goodell. Holds a news conference one o'clock. Tomorrow. And Arthur blank says of that. I'm sure the Commissioner will will respond to that Wednesday. So he's had wonderful ten days to craft an answer. About the Nakao aerobic Coleman. Michigan. Okay. On that. Now to tell you what. So I'm reading I'm reading getting caught up reading Peter king's column at NBC sports. He is railing on Roger Goodell for not saying and has been for the whole time. He's upset he put together. He actually crafted a statement. He thought Goodell should have read. I'll have it for you. All right. Tell me if you like this like this. I liked this idea very much. We'll do that next heater kings and European statement of what the league should have said. Can you give it a heartless? I want a dramatic reading. I'll do my balcony. Morrison Maury Geir will be one of the.

"How patient is Mark Davis willing to be with Jon Gruden? We'll just the rebuilding process. But of course, Jon Gruden stuff face of it. I would say. Fairly patient. I actually I don't know he really wants to win it Oakland. Here's your last chance to do it. It's gonna be interesting to see how these guys attack next offseason. They've got about seventy million dollars in cap space, which is dangerous because you don't want to use it and put yourself in a bad situation teacher with a bunch of dead money. You don't build your team through free agency, you build your team through the draft, and they re signing your own guys that you've developed so how the raiders approach next offseason. I think we'll tell us a lot about just how willing they are to put some chips into the middle of the table for that final year in Oakland. But I say it's interesting because it might not be the best thing for this organization. Long-term giving what we've seen in free agency in terms of its parallels over the years. All right. There's a lot that's going to happen. Maybe in a in a year. We'll look back and go who is that team? Yeah. We'll see it's a lot compile on bay area fans of the raiders considering that they're also about to leave the bay area. And there's a lot of angst and emotion surrounding that as well. "So like, the wish regiment, Kinsey, the best, and he's a good friend of mine is always going to be a raider. And. We're going to have to rebuild this what ball team without him. But I will sure the raider fans, it will do everything we can to find the right replacement. He's left some big shoes to fill and. Want to wish him the best? Well, you wouldn't expect that Jon Gruden when say anything negative or stab Reggie McKenzie in the back on his way out the door. However, he says I want to wish him the best. Reggie mckenzie. Will always be a raider the longtime GM of the raiders was fired on Sunday night. We find out Monday. He wasn't contract through twenty twenty one. But they're gonna have to pay him. Now, pay him some kind of a severance, and he was the two thousand sixteen NFL executive of the year. Let's welcome Michael gal kin who covers the raiders for the Las Vegas review journal. We find him in the bay area for this segment here on after hours. Michael thank you so much for a couple of minutes. I thought it was interesting that Jon Gruden couldn't or wouldn't say why the move happened. He actually said I went home after our victory against the Steelers. And then I get to work, and I find out McKenzie's been fired. So what can you tell me about the move? The maybe Jon Gruden doesn't know. Well, I I think it was an organizational decision. I don't think as much as it was Mark Davis who sat down with Reggie McKenzie. And notified him I as much as Jon Gruden you can say well. It was his influence on the decision. He says, well, you know, I think some caution online essentially to Jon Gruden a news conference today. Now, did you have were you the person who was responsible for Reggie being let go and then Gruden responded. We share the same boss in terms of Mark Davis making a mistake. Mark davis. Make this move without Jon Gruden seal of approval. No. So this is part of Gruden taking over he has. I'm sure just as he had an offense coordinator in mind, defensive coordinator mind, especially teams Cornyn when he was hired to become the raiders head coach, you would assume that that same van would have a general manager in mind now, maybe wasn't the right time right in your first year to make that change and to relieve MacKenzie others duties, but now that. Just about entire season is in the books and their ports that it's going to happen and all the scouts are in town, and it remove the cloud hanging over that everyone unless let's call the same for what it is which is the end. And so you had to move a Sunday evening and that was probably became public on Monday morning. Are you expecting other changes in time? Yeah. I think that would be a fair, fair expectation. I mean, you look at the way that the front office is assembled and there are a lot of rage McKenzie's guys. And I'm not just being flippant with that. I mean, you look at the scene. Raleigh mckenzie. His twin brother is on the Dewey clink scales. His childhood friend as just like with Raleigh. They went to high school together, I played football. And you're also football team mates in college. Tennessee. There are a lot of building her extremely loyal to Reggie McKenzie. Whoever Gruden and Mark Gatiss and Mark the dean, and Tom, Delaney, etc. Higher part of the raiders brain trust. Be the next general manager. You would think that that person was well while working hand-in-hand with Gruden are gonna wanna get their people into the building. And so I would expect surprise to say that come summer clean scales. In some other are part of this organization. Still Michael Belkin covers the raiders for the Las Vegas review journal with us after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS sports radio. So just to clarify. This is more about the reorganization of the team. The franchise the front office, which Jon Gruden being hired was a part not so much a referendum on this particular season in which they're three and ten. Bad that you know, Gruden had some say in terms of how it was made. I do think Gruden was under. And there's really no doubt onto this underwhelmed with what recent draft classes produced in terms of talent. He was underwhelmed with some of these recent top choices and for good reason emerging ever. High on the list of guys who haven't panned out and it hasn't been good enough. And I think Reggie McKenzie. Would tell you as been good enough. Now, there are some reasons for that, you know, the things like consistency in coaching staff and scheme and all that flux at your heart sometimes to draft to scheme when we aren't quite sure what year to your your scheme will be coach's position coaches under Jack del Rio you could argue that the player development wasn't where easy to be. I'm thinking point fingers all night. I mean, that's that'd be not so fun activity for us to do. But overall while MacKenzie missed in the front office missed in recent drafts. I think that was part of it was part of reason gruden's lean this way for a while. But ultimately, I think this is about grooten making sure he's got the people in place that he thinks a best, and it's kind of awkward clean house. When the guy who built the house in there right beside you. Sure. That's that's true. When you think back to the moves with Khalil Mack. And obviously Amari Cooper, both of which are painting out in in marvelous ways for Chicago. And for the Dallas Cowboys has the locker room gotten over that. I mean when Jon Gruden says that the guys are sticking together and that the victory over the Steelers was an indicator of that. And he's so proud of them. Do you believe that they've gotten over it and they're on the same page? I mean you over I mean that might be too strong. I mean it, you know, guys love for AVI there. They would love for Mark Cooper to be there. But when it comes to the vibe in the raiders locker room, if you were to take last week, for example, the raiders signed a handful of players are off the street, and they walk into the locker room, and they're in meetings and they're on the practice field. I talked to some of them all of whom said, you wouldn't have been able to tell at this was to in ten team. So there is an energy getting drew has done a good job of engaging guys. If you'd be joining him your one, you know, we'll see your four or five minutes if it's three ten each year. I think that would be more difficult to enjoy. But here in year one is I think a great job. You could say a keeping guys engaged. There is is good any effort. More importantly on film has been there from the get-go to this past Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers from Oakland. Michael Galkina covers the raiders for the Las Vegas review journal with us here after hours on CBS sports radio mean, that's kind of the opposite of what you might hear just people speculating and talking about how gruden's the wrong fit for this job, and look how badly this first year has gone, but there's so much to rebuild and they've stockpiled a bunch of draft picks, and they certainly want to start fresh, but they were the oldest team in the league on. On average in terms of age. And so there's a lot to change. It's not like it's going to happen overnight. So it's it's great if the locker room actually gets that. Yeah. Yeah. I think the locker room is probably the reason why assembled you know, it wasn't as screwed in necessarily the NFL's oldest locker room. I think of that was his doing guys like Dirk Johnson and Leon Reggie Nelson. Guys who aren't just over thirty around thirty three thirty four thirty five. So he brought those guys in part because I use under one with his roster. But probably more importantly, he just wanted guys who he trusted who is assistant coaches and coordinators trusted. Did you send example Leon hall setting an example for nickel a rookie nickel cornerback Nick Nelson a fourth round pick? And you're just having a leader in every room. Yeah. We're fussy Rucker what he meant to guys like PJ hall or second round pick Arden key or third round pick motor studio their fifth round pick. That's part of the reason why this locker room has been able to navigate through Asim flows of the season is because of those examples in their position meeting rooms in an at large. And so, you know, throwing in another example. So I think that is a big part of the reason why the raiders have been able to weather that storm. So what are the priorities in the off season? Michael, okay. That's gonna be busy. There are a lot of spots edge rusher. He's probably gonna get wrestler a cornerback. Although the raiders like what they've seen from Gary on. Conley enduro world league really is a free agent. See more speed there. Doses has been good Gilchrist an impending for agent linebacker. They're really struggling against tight ends that defense offense wide receiver isn't important. Spot. A tight end Jerry coke is an impending for Asian and should be polar pro bowler this season. Offense of line has has been an issue. They have some real concerns in the year line with John Feliciano, depending three agent, right? Tackle rookie third round pick brand Parker's trial by fire. And he's giving up. Six sacks pests three-game penalties on Sunday. They gotta get better from a protection standpoint about I can tell you one thing something that seemed to be true, all alone. But there was some outside suspicion to the contrary. Derek Carr will be this quarterback for two thousand nineteen Derek Clarke should be this quarterback. Well beyond that, these they games zero interceptions. The win that he led the raiders to you on Sunday seems secure his place as the team's franchise quarterback was. That for the team for the locker room. It was huge. It was funny. It kind of felt like a win the week before when they lost forty two thirty three. If the Kansas City Chiefs game in the fourth quarter. You know, it was a sense of accomplishment. Even though we players will tell you. There are no moral victory. Then you know, they just allow winning and all of those same season that has been I mean, I would even include a Baltimore game the week before based on how the raiders competed in the first half. They are finding reasons for enjoyment in turn on film. And you look at cornerback Aaron calling two thousand seventeen first round pick. But two games first year. Now, he's playing on Sunday all but one defensive snap. And you just playing with more confidence. There's more enjoyment there. I think in part because the coaching staff and the way that they're rotating guys or rotating is less before. But midseason there it was pretty dreary here in Oakland. I'm talking pretty upbeat for a guy covered a three and ten team. I really maybe it's just 'cause we're talking so late at night. I think it's something to just a foundation before the results and the forty Niners across the bay. They believe that they have that at three and ten and veges, quiet belief that they're on the right track in the raiders. Even though there are a lot of guys on this roster won't be your next year. They still feel like by the way that the training by the way that they're competing that they are setting the building blocks or something better to come last thing before I let you go..

"To even win it the first year they move if it's a sudden move. Now, this one is different. There's never been a situation to where a team announced we're going to move to this city. It's been approved. But we're going to wait a couple of years. We've got to work things that we're gonna wait a few years. It's never happened. So it kinda gives, you know, Vegas in the in the state of Nevada a chance to kind of take everything in so right now. You know? And I understand what Marc Davis Hussein and Dana, and I and I welcome in Michael Galkina as well. Michael doesn't outstanding job covering the raiders? But Michael when when you when you talk about you know, what is good for the franchise overall. Sure, it's great for bay area raider fan to get a W winner Lombardi trophy, and that's Gruden putting a lot of pressure on himself. When you initially takes the job for us here in Nevada, again, raider nations, raider nation in those that know raider nation as a whole you understand. It does not matter to a lot of these guys. I don't care if they're in Bismarck, North Dakota or in jersey where I grow because are a couple raider degenerates there that were just die hard. They didn't. I mean the team before and twelve these guys are still always wearing the raider gear. But for us here the way things are looking now when you look at two thousand twenty and you understand you a five first round picks right now, at least at least five round five first round picks prior to two thousand twenty that includes of course of two thousand twenty draft. But prior to them starting. Their season. Here the glass is half full because I was in L A the first year the raiders moved there from Oakland and a win the whole enchilada and people feel guilty. They felt like, you know, those that weren't actual raider fans. You know, they feel like we don't really deserve that we didn't go through anything really to suffer with the team. So now when I look at this team just gutting itself, basically and starting over, and again, they're still going to be some key pieces there, but Gruden and McKenzie right now, our understanding look, we're too deep in not to make all the changes, we need to make now because once Khalil max gone, and once Amari Cooper is gone now, it's like, you know, what everybody's expandable. And that includes Derek Carr. It included Derrick Johnson who was a twelve year vet coming over from Casey that they could've used for leadership right now Gruden saying you know, what I got a ten year deal. Look it's going to take me three or four years to change this. And I think by the time they get here to Vegas that the glass will be more than half full. As opposed to what it will be this year and next year weather next year is in Oakland, San Diego wherever they end up playing. We'll see I'm sorry. What was your question? Oh, no. I was just I was just getting your. I'm getting your point on on where the raiders are now as opposed to. I don't know if you've ever been, you know, you're part of the Vegas Golden Knights being your you understand what what that was. That's an expansion team. There's only one team to me in the NFL that could move your to Las Vegas to where it makes sense. And that is the raiders because of the emblem because of the shield because of raider fan being all over the country because of forty six point three million visitors coming into Las Vegas, so raider fan in North Dakota or New Jersey or Florida can plan a four day trip coming into the number one destination in the country and taking a raider game. And so I feel bad. You know, if it wasn't expansion team like the Vegas Golden Knights. That's one thing. Then the city gets behind it. It's our own it's Vegas born. But the raiders because they're struggling now it's better than them winning two Lombardi trophies in Oakland and then moving here. So I just wanted to get you. Your take on that scenario? And also, you know, your overall take on what's gone down the last few days where you know, basically a lot of people are saying they're throwing in the towel. They don't care about Oakland. And they're just looking forward to Vegas. Want to work for the raiders to you? When you look there were Jon Gruden ferreted. Our this roster was recent drought. Blunders. First second third. I mean across the board. Markou ver- cool. Mark. Aside from Coolmax because he was part of a fantastic two thousand fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen classes and really the raiders having gotten much impact out of any of those fifteen sixteen seventeen and so going into this offseason. Jon Gruden looked around and he sued where Los Angeles chargers were interstate stood or the Kansas City. Chiefs were Andy, low case keenum Denver. This roster that he had now we're close because of those drafts MRs. So when he came to the physician did he want cool massively extended. Absolutely. But it got to a point where now we him, but others were reader organizations felt like it wasn't a fit and they felt like they could really build through the draft and also with the financial flexibility that they were afforded by not having cholera and cool mats contract and the book that it would be the best thing for your organization. On monday. I turns out for Amari Cooper. There are from real questions internally about whether he is true wide receiver large part inconsistency. Throughout the far. So with. I out there. Either that was a real coup for the team. So they would be built into this rock dry believes, regardless. I mean, the irrelevant the Las Vegas. I don't think the raiders are saying themselves two thousand eighteen. We build this roster. Because of the thousand twenty they want to be competitive. If you want to be competitive right way the way that they were. Cobham four year was not sustainable. They're winning. Folkston decided by fewer margin of victory was about as low as you'll find that. One more. So. A lot of work to do Gruden really got thirty to approach it. Coach's job from a longitudinal standpoint. And they're building the way that they believe will make them sustainable. Whether or not they're able to here on the drought agency that really will define went up at work. Right. Super trade. Certainly the the opportunity to build a nuclear arms over the years. I agree with you hundred percent, by the way, folks. Follow Michael on Twitter at Gilgen NFL. It's G H L K E N NFL, and Michael doesn't outstanding job covering the silver and black. And again, it's you know, right now you look at it from the outside looking in. If you're somebody here in the Vegas area going oh, gosh. This team's going to be moving here. It's number one first off, you know, raiders or not. I mean, they're like the Yankees you love them or you hate them. But you're going to watch and that's one thing. So now for the fans that are on the fence, you're hoping that you can transition and teach them about the raider mystique about the raider tradition about silver and black and bell raider nation, all that good stuff. And then get it here and have a good product on the field. And I think that you know, when they let go they were trying to see. Okay. Are we going to be competitive enough to where we can at least hang in there this year? And maybe I think realistically. Nine and seven type year. And then we build on next year's draft. We've got the draft choices from Chicago next year and the year after let's see how we do. But then as things started falling apart a little bit. And then really coming to a head in London getting just lambasted by Seattle. I mean, they're fortunate. They even got on the scoreboard and that game it was ugly game as if you know, I feel bad for anybody that ad actually cover that game from the raiders side of things for you and others involved. But you know, at the end of the day, you realize look we're so far behind the eight ball that we do need to plan future wise, and I really think that raider nation as a whole understands it now, I understand bay area raider fan doesn't get it. Because when Gruden was coming in. They thought for sure okay goal is to at least leave one Lombardi or die tryin leaving one Lombardi trophy here in the bay area before he split to Vegas, and now that you know, everything on raveled with Khalil Mack. And who knows how that all worked out, Michael? I mean don't know if it was, you know, the agent with. Brune with this that I mean for the they drove a hard bargain, and it is tough to spend twenty seven percent of the entire salary cap onto players, and that's basically what it would have been with Khalil Mack. And Derek Carr. That was gonna be. When I saw the deal that Aaron Donald. We've angela. That's pretty much close the door on it. New the krill max. I paid under and. Offered. Would have been. Defender. Von Miller received two thousand sixteen. The way the grow with the grow. With the way the growing. It just became much. Quarterbacks that getting paid, right? The franchise quarterback. Typically, don't see players that scale in terms of under a quarterback. Would be under the same book is really limit you in terms of how you're going to build your. Now, there's other fifty one bought. So that was a big part of the reason the raiders ultimately day, would they? The move on from now, we'll see how they were Steve to Knoxville chronic of becoming a winner. It. It's pretty fascinating. And. Out over the coming years. Tell you that. The way they will be competitive by the time two thousand twenty around us what they want. They want to it every year. Turned around by thousands point. But they're not it's certainly part of it. NFL team or NHL team or whatever have you. Experience the highs and lows thirty two wins at all. So. So cry. With having the professional sports team. And you look at the way Vegas golden night. But they wanna embrace nudity community of great. The Golden Knights. So that they can accomplish. All right talk to me real quick about couple things. One thing. I think is that when you bring more tavis Bryant back again, you're concerned about the baggage off the field. The talent is there and understand. He held the ball like a loaf of bread on one long pass play that could've turned into a big play. That's something. He'll learn. But I think that talent is there. And I think grew knows that. And I think Gruden thinks this guy could be a number one. If he totally gives one hundred percent on the field and off the field. I think Martavis Bryant has the potential to be a number one. And I do like the bringing in Daniel Carlson. Look he struggled in a couple of games with Minnesota. But this kid was the real deal at Auburn for a while. This kid can flat out kick that football. I liked the job that mccranie did under pressure stepping in. I mean if it's not for him. We don't have any wins. But you know Carlson, I think is a guy in the future that could be a dynamite kicker. I mean, I watched a Vecchio kick a fifty six yard that was good from sixty last night. But you know, at the end of the day the raiders made. That move talk to me though, about Martavis Bryant does he have a number one number two type feel for coach Gruden if the potential on and off the field meet expectations. I don't feel number one wide receiver. I think at this point. I don't think he was born talent. Able to acquire a believe it. Third round. Spectacle. For you. Somebody who offer. The opposite. Otherwise does not have which is the vertical deep threat causes alone. The way secondary. And where Martinez Brian is at all times because of his ability. Get by the secondary. Grop bad one. When you so I believe it was against the Cleveland Browns and week four, but ultimately the opportunity with the raiders expect. On the team. With the NFL substance abuse, call violation. But. Overlook. Was on the part of the reason why. Good chance that he might not finish the season. I mean appeal right now and it probably possible that Mark Davis Bryant climate season is over important situation. I know I've written about it. Talked about it for for months now it's not over yet. But you wanna see a player who is a realizes defense. Number one, two three. The. That is there. Comes down to the year. What kind of impact? Whether or not you'll be allowed to. I know the.

"Just a great guy glasses half full, and I'll get into that with Michael Galkina and just a little bit. So we will talk raider football, which got up on the Richard badgen, Finley Toyota, out-of-town scoreboard. And yes. We've got baseball. And yes, the dodgers gotta run they tied things up bottom five three three from Fenway and again Kershaw on sale. You know, both teams leaning heavy on the race sale. Not one hundred percent, you know, tried to get back in the mix, but got touched up a little bit. So if you're a dodger fan, you're feeling good because sale at home if you can get a W somehow in this game, you know, Europe one, oh, you have the experience from last year's team thirteen of the guys that were on that team are back this year. And again, I don't want to say the woes continue for Kershaw because he's had a couple of decent games. But he's had a couple of clunkers as well. So you'll take, you know, at least a couple of good ones this postseason, and you know, he's getting better. But you know, he's just not as dominant as he's been in the regular season over the last five years in the postseason just something about and we've seen it with David price. Now, David price comes off an outstanding performance in his last game closeout game against Houston. So, you know. You don't want to give up on guys. And it's the same thing with the raiders look. Yeah. You know, I don't get towel which Michael Balcon date to get on a just a minute or two. But. You know, if you're in Vegas, and in the state of Nevada against soon to be the silver and black state, and I loved what Mark Davis said that Carolyn Goodman introduces the owner of the raiders and he says. We are no longer just the silver stale, or no I said, I'm going I'm going to turn the silver state into the silver and black state. And so while that was far away when he said it's still in the distance. And you know, the best thing maybe for eighteen is not to win it the year before they move or not.

"Dot com. Twitter feed, shoot the raiders, keep their car. And then in one sentence, if the raiders aren't tanking, what are they doing? You said you're getting some good responses for that. Yeah, I'm getting a lot of. And we'll, we'll read some more later too, but somebody Christopher Monroe acquiring enough draft picks to trade for Khalil. Mack Gruden heard that guy is good. Trusting the process. Lot of trust that process of race cube says, reallocate of organizational resources, which sounds like someone who's gonna soul-sucking office job, but knows just how to reword things. So they sound better. That guy said, having a fire sale along with the incredible gif of arrested development. It's a fire sale. And if you don't know that episode, you should go back and watch all of your arrested development immediately. They are not not tanking. Says James Boutros, and Nick Price says, playing franchise mode in Madden nineteen. There's plenty more where that came from for later. Well, and it's going to be interesting to see what the reaction is. One key from Michael Galkina just joined us from the Las Vegas review journal is he's dressed the Derek cars on the roster today, and we'll be on the roster after the trade deadline also said that the raiders are currently shopping last year's first-round traffic. So it just there's definitely a massive change going on in Oakland, and it'll be interesting to see if Dallas can get something done where the raiders couldn't offensively with Amari Cooper, what would be great for Maury as Viki go out and just crush it because he's an easy guide to root for Sarah over the weekend. There were a ton of Jason's and some Michaels, and they were all they were all at my house. This one there was a Beetlejuice shrunken head Beetlejuice. Yes. Was there as the fifth fear fest? Eighteen happened and I'm not gonna lie. I think I'm still hung over. It's been solid forty, eight hours, and I think I'm saying that the trash can punch in a blood bag. I always tell people, look, this little blood bag. You'd think it's not going to hurt you and it is going to hurt you and every year sort of every year gets a little. It gets a little creepy or this year we did have a couple of guys that were Michael Myers walking through the house. Scaring people as they went through and saw are animatronic haunts in our fog. You can check out some video edit thought they were other guests that were dressed up and then they would just randomly great because the day of the party as any good Halloween party planner. Take notes here, Tim Legler we'll do. We take the entire inside of the house and essentially create our own walking path in plastic. So we put black plastic up throughout the entire house. You can't see any furniture. You can't see walls, the shape of the room, make no sense, and then we build different scenes throughout the house so to to get to the party, which is actually outside back in the backyard. You have to walk through the whole haunted maze essentially as and then we put an Metron ick things around all the different corners that are shaking jumping or moaning or whatever it may be. So people were used to that with all the fog going on, and you can't see very well. But then all of a sudden you realize that the Michael Myers. She thought was just standing in the corner was actually a human being and would walk a. Did you pay people to come to your house and be Michael Myers? Yeah. Yeah, we pay we. We also pay a bartender every year. That's one of the one of the bartender is a standard fare party easy tricks, the paid murder? Yes. Yes, that's very unique. Two years ago, one of our buddies Tofa I'll give a shoutout..

"Then he has been in the past and whether you think that's an excuse, they think that, you know if you simply drafting players that are great, you can find a way to fit them. I think there is that counterargument, but certainly I think that represents a little bit of how of MacKenzie views at least the way he said to reporters, talking to Michael Galkina, raiders beat writer for the Las Vegas review journal. You can follow him on Twitter at gilkisson NFL. So I wonder if you're looking at, you know what we've seen from this team in this season and you look back to just two years ago. They're twelve and four. They're very certain about Cooper and car and MAC, what do you think is the biggest difference in why this team is struggling? Now? Is it? Does it have to do with Gruden or is he accurate and stepping in and saying this. Team isn't good. That was a fluke. Route of accurate. When you look at the two thousand sixteen season, it was a bit of an aberration when you look at the way that the raiders were winning games, their margin of victory, you'd have to really go back. Find it twelve win team that was winning by fewer points per game. And you look at the raiders that year. It was magical. It you wanna call it that it would look at a five zero record in games, decided by three points or fewer. They were depleted as nine into in games, decided by one score. That's exciting. It was a heck of a season, but when you talk about how sustainable is it twelve and four that was not a twelve and four roster. And since then the raiders have made. Some draft picks that haven't helped out. And even then you look at the two thousand six sixteen class. I expect that the raiders are gonna trae two thousand sixteen first round. Pick Karl Joseph before next Tuesday's trade deadline. That's what they want to do. Anyway, we'll be a bad Coleman age, but. This just wasn't that level of talented talent are about Rosser I, it was kind of fool's gold, and I think Jon Gruden people like to talk to him like he's about this like old man from a throw pant throwback type of sense. Well, he was kind of a prospect you're coming in here and he knew full gold when he saw it, and in order to get this being truly genuinely built into sustainable championship tender, the kind of have to move backwards in order before, then there's no doubt that the raiders are moving backwards. Two thousand eighteen. I think where the conversation is, are they going to be better long-term for it? Michael. Before we let you go. Real quick is Derek Carr part of this rebuild in your mind. He's a part of this rebuilt. He's not a part of this rebuild upper trade, a bunch of people, Derek Carr is on the raiders roster as you and I talked today and he will be following Tuesday's, trade deadline, follow him on Twitter at gilpin, NFL. We appreciate your time, Michael. Thanks for joining us. You bet. Ticker Spain, and Fitz. It's made and Fitz on ESPN radio, the ESPN app siriusxm channel eighty. Sarah maintain some fits. Don't forget guys. We'll have the Cowboys side of this trade coming up in about fifteen minutes with hall of fame voter, Serena Williams, who is one of the more experienced Cowboys brains minds I've ever met shrinking, give us all the insight from the Dallas side of it. Sarah, you're getting some good responses that we, we've got three different Twitter things going on right now. We've got will the raiders keep Derek Carr out of the one, eight hundred flowers.

"And since he's got there really hasn't been a lot of positive headlines and a lot of it has been about how he's wanted to spin back the clock in professional football. We got another one of those headlines over the weekend raiders tight end, Jared cook. Join Michael Galkina Las Vegas review journal and was talking about how Gruden had brought out some old time film. Michael Balcon tweeted in the raiders tight end Jerry cook was born in nineteen eighty seven. Jon Gruden showing the team football film that is older. He said, quote, he's bringing out film from like nineteen seventy six. When you didn't even think they had film grainy film where you can barely see the players added some of the plays scheme originated there. So Jon Gruden trying to show the foundation of a lot of this and I get it. This is going to sound funny. This is gonna sound like more of Jon Gruden hugging titan to the old guard of football, not embracing what's going on now, but this is something I kind of pushed back on like this happens a lot more. Maybe this is just me living in the offense of line world, but I was in college back in two thousand and twelve. I a coach who is showing us seven to sixteen millimeter tape from the old Dallas Cowboys in the sixties and seventies which again was grainy but served a point. And it was one supplement amongst a much larger round of film just merely showcasing history, which is something that coaches, you're going to be hard pressed to find a coach, not a bit of a football historian. That's not going to appreciate some of these elements. And so we might let them breathe on that one because there's going to be a lot of pressure on Jon Gruden, but our own field gates ESPN NFL insider says, there's actually more pressure elsewhere in the raiders building. I think that maybe the person that type the most influence over, they actually caught a good quarterback, go a long way in the NFL. Air cars flare. He wasn't twenty sixteen this upcoming season. The raiders are going to be a force in the AFC west, Derek Carr, big step back last year, that whole team mean seeing the offensive line give as much pressure up. I remember that game against the Redskins. I believe it was Sunday night football during the season where that raiders lying got absolutely bullied in a way that I did not expect from that unit Amari Cooper with a bad case of the drops. And now you get Michael Crabtree who's out of town over in Baltimore was a free agent signing for them very interested that offense in a lot of ways seem to get older and slower. Jordy Nelson coming over from the Packer is going to be very interested to see how they integrate some of those concepts from the seventies, Jared cook is so worried about, I am. I asked my junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. No worries for Jalen Ramsey now you remember we were talking about Bill Barnwell are ESPN staff writers picks for.

Him a new contract one year left eight and a half million dollars so he. Wants out Remember in December, Seahawks playing, in, Dallas, Earl, Thomas followed Jason Garrett the Cowboys, coach to the locker room saying come get me come get me Thomas tried to downplay later well I'm talking about you know when I'm a free agent. Now talking about now Because the, Seahawks aren't, going to pay me want someone else to pay Our own new Scruggs reported on Tuesday that Earl Thomas Spoke to raiders owner marched Mark Davis while in, Las Vegas and expressed interest in playing for the raiders Now The problem is the raiders don't have a ton of cap, space and I don't know the raiders are inclined to payroll Thomas when they have yet to pay Khalil, Mack and that's going to be. Expensive and I just don't know that John gruden's all that interested in investing ton of money and defensive players. Anyway The thing that struck me as odd this though, the idea that Earl Thomas under. Contract with the Seahawks would contact an owner of another team and say I want to come play for. You And there's nothing in, the, report indicating that Mark Davis was alarmed by this toward Earl Thomas I can't. Talk to you you're under contract with another team. And then immediately called Paul Allen of the Seahawks, to say hey one of your guys has reached out to me about playing for my team that's what's supposed to happen under the. Tampering policy and I know about that because, four years ago there was a profile of Jerry Jones from Don van Natta of ESPN and part of it, was while van Natta was with Jones Had Adrian Peterson on the phone Peterson initiated a conversation with Jones Zada I'd like to come play for the Cowboys at some point And look the league only. Wax someone for tampering when the league wants to the league operates like so many other, American businesses and this is not. A compliment and I've seen this back when I practiced law These businesses will have a, list of rules in some instances, a stack of rules and they only get used When management decides to use them if there's. Somebody that management wants to ding if there's somebody management wants, to far that was, always one of the best Sources of. Evidence in the discrimination cases. I handled because if you look in isolation. At the person who, was fired well this. Person broke this. Rule it's a workable it's in black and white they signed the acknowledgement they received the rules they broke this rule they must be fired it's that. Simple it's not that simple because in a lot of those cases. Had plenty of other people who broke the same damn real and they're all gainfully employed and I feel like that's how, the, NFL implements its tampering policy so it doesn't. Surprise. Me that there was a follow up report from Michael Galkina. The Las Vegas review journal saying that well, it was just kind of a chance passing Earl Thomas said it in jest Enough to not activate the obligation by Mark Davis to call Paul Allen and say hey hey Paul crazy story I'm, hanging, out here at gold night's game in Las. Vegas. And Earl Thomas is there Yeah came up to me and said he wants to play for me so. The aware So Which is weird stuff going on with the raiders like the raiders want to market Las Vegas raiders apparel and the league won't let them why would the league not let them what's the argument for not letting them do? It are they trying to keep it secret to the folks in Oakland that the raiders are? Moving Why not let people buy that gear Oh the combat later while they can buy it now to make him by some, now and they could buy more later. It doesn't? Make any sense to me And. Surely the deal's not gonna fall through The stadiums. Like fifteen twenty percent of the way done and I think that the. Raiders are destined to go to Vegas now I don't know whether it's. Twenty twenty twenty twenty one twenty twenty two I saw somewhere that may not up until two thousand twenty two I, don't know do they play in. Sam Boyd stadium is at the stadium in Las Vegas where UNLV place. That's acceptable for the NFL maybe they will be in San Antonio for. A year or two how much longer can you stay in Oakland Right hey we're breaking up well, when are you moving out in three years Well Gruden is beloved in Oakland That help it it doesn't hurt and that's why remember last year when the talk was emerging of Gruden coaching the? Buccaneers, remember what I was saying Do you remember Mark. You don't remember Mark Davis should be on the horn right now because Jon Gruden is the guy that keeps the Oakland, fan base engaged and he's the guy that you want riding in on a silver and black horse. To Las Vegas Oh yeah because it's more than Xs and os did you, see where Gruden said if he doesn't get it done he's he's not gonna take the money please Please A ten year hundred ten year hundred million dollar. Contract and if you get fired by Mark, Davis You're not gonna. You're going to say no thank you please Come on.
