"Hit it hard somewhere. Hey, Bunch it But you and the charge tigers win it. Bottom suicide squeeze. Wow! Yeah. Execution, execution Execution And what a call from A J hits that Detroit tigers management staff right there. My goodness at the bottom of the 10th. The Detroit Tigers with the Houston Astros on the ropes. It was 1 to 1 extra frame killed by Do we spend a lot of time talking about him? All last week, And here he goes, with some clutch running at a clutch hit as well to drive in Iran and Robby Grossmann lays down a bunch in walk off fashion that scores by do and it's a celebration across the board. Welcome back here to the huge show broadcasting live all across the great state of Michigan here on the Michigan sports Network, no matter who you are, where you are or how you may be listening. We appreciate you for making us a part of your day, each and every weekday afternoon. That's Brett Hayes. I'm Anthony Bellino filling in for the huge one here in the auto value bumper to bumper part studio. We thank you so much for being a part of our day and allowing me to hang out with you. While the huge one is on vacation, and the man who had they call Matt Shepard Valley Sports Detroit He joins us Now it's a timely hitting what they call by a J. Hinch there, but Chapman. It all comes down to the pitching, doesn't it? How about the pitching staff this weekend and all week long for the Tigers? They start to reel in my zin Scougall and their innings a little bit and I understand that But it's got to start with the pitching, baby. A. J. Hinch. El Avila said it when they first hired him. They get the pitching, right. Everything else kind of falls into place. You've seen some of the young Position players contributing with do and Cameron Derek Hill before he got hurt. He's played well. At the legal And you're seeing the confidence rise in this team. And quite honestly, I think the believability An egg hitch. I think players are recognizing man. This dude knows how to manage a baseball game. Perfect example. Yesterday growth been surprising, everybody You know, Chef. We had the opportunity last week to talk to Michael Fulmer and I had asked him, you know, just about the way that the team was playing and not really knowing where the necessarily point the finger to is, you know, for as competitive as they have been playing outside of, you know, the management and the coaching staff and that that word belief and and former talked about it, and he said, You know what? You're exactly right. Like when you know where we're in the dugout. He kind of, you know, paraphrasing here, but They do have that strong belief in their manager that they can. You know he's going to put them in positions to be successful. They're going to get creative when they need to. And I think that we saw that yesterday with the suicide squeeze there at the end of the game in the 10th, and there's just there's seems to be a little bit of a spark within this within this club, Another guy who we talked about a lot last week, and the fact that no one's really talking about him, and I think that that's okay just because of the magical storybook start that he had. But a kill Bedu continues to continues to shine. He hit a little bit of a slump in it seems like he's worked his way through it, and he, uh, he seems like he's getting better every day. Oh, I think a lot of people are talking about him and for good reason, and it's not just as hitting its on base ability. It's the fact that his walk rate is twice as good Now as it was when he was going through that slump and his ability to learn he has been a sponsor. Choose out there every single day working with George Lombard in the outfield. Is doing the things that for example of wife some guys, I'm not saying all but some guys Can learn at the major league level and adapt quickly and A. J. Hinch leaves him in yesterday. Maybe in a really tough spot. There's a guy at second base. And Houston goes to the bullpen, and they bring in really a nasty left hander. And I remember during the break saying to Jack Morris, my partner on belly sports, a Would you pinch it? Miguel Cabrera here? And he said, Take a question. I'm not sure I said. I don't know if we want. Let's let's just leave that topical moment. It's something I'm thinking about right because I killed to do only had three hits against lefties all season marked a J. Hinch leaves him in there. And how about that single the right to tie it at one forced the extra innings and give Detroit a shop kid is really learning at a fast level. He's got a long way to go. Especially defensively. Everybody will tell you that At least he's willing to do. It hasn't hit the wall yet, and he's fought through the adversity A. J. Hinch is told this time and time again, trying to put him in spots that make him uncomfortable. And he passes the test. I'm just about every single time and it's really cool to watch because the kid has a great smile and has a passion for the game and is helping Detroit placing really fun Baseball. It really is amazing what you can accomplish when you do feel that sense of belief in that sense of support from those in a management position, and it doesn't matter any walk of life, whether in sales or Whatever the case may be, when you know that the leadership believes in you, it gives you a certain sense of. I don't know if it's like maybe maybe a calm or just a certain level of confidence that I think that you know everyone needs in order to perform at the best of their abilities. You just wonder why more management people don't do it that way? That's all in whatever. I mean, it's a good your point is valid. Um why don't more people who are in charge of other people. Even though you have high expectations, kind of have that belief and instill that belief in them and put them in situations where the successful instead of just looking at the bear numbers, a. J. Hinch I think has done a really nice job. Of knowing when to rest to kill the do which lefties to put him in it just because he gets that shit against a tough lefty and really doesn't mean that you now hit you make that's left his all the time. Pinches got the numbers and the field. That he combines and when he puts guys in certain situations, but do at the top of the line of sometimes sometimes at the bottom, but doing center Sometimes I'm left camera sometimes and centers, sometimes in right, sometimes in the middle of the line up. Sometimes down. He's president. A lot of the right buttons. That's because he's getting to know these guys These guys have bought full in and it's paying off for Matt Shepard play by play Voice of the Detroit Tigers on Bali, Sports, Detroit and ship We were actually posed this question last week, and I'll throw it to you because we still have some time to sort some things out. But who would be your representative for the Detroit Tigers in the Midsummer Classic at.

"October 29th two days before Halloween. The rivalry between Michigan Michigan State was full of tricks and treats for the Wolverines. It was all treats. There's Michigan 1 30 to 23. So now you get into November right about this time four years ago. The Cubs World Series curse comes to an end. What a great sports year and also sad With some of the people we lost in the world of sports. Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer. Wednesday all rookie of the year. Only player named on all 30 ballots. Verlander finished second in the Cy Young behind former teammate Rick Purcell. Oh, Verlander had more first place votes. Pistons announced. On November 22nd 2016, They're going to return to downtown Detroit and little Caesars Arena. November. 12th Man, the That game in Iowa for Michigan. 14 13. They lose. In the November 26. Ohio state knocks off Michigan 30 27. On that controversial first down call in the second overtime. That loss eventually. Knock Michigan out of the college football playoff picture. That's what's happened in the Last four plus years in sports. That's not what's happened in the last four years, but where we were four years ago. And it makes me think. Okay. Are we in a better place today? No. Because of the pandemic. I'm talking about the world of sports. Are we a better place as a country? Then four years ago. That's your decision, and that's why everybody needs to get out of votes. Some places you can still registered to vote and vote. Whoever you're listening in some states. That's your call. That's not me. That's not anybody on any channel on cable satellite, your local channels Snow buddy on Facebook or Twitter. Is your life better today? You your family. If you're single yourself, your business are things better, And I think you have to kind of put a little asterisk because of the pandemic going back to march. That's what this voters about. That's what today is about. And as I tweeted out last night, a little after midnight, every vote matters every vote counts. And I do like the feeling today and I'm being honest compared to four years ago. For all the back and forth we've seen on Facebook and on Twitter and on the 9000 cable and satellite channels. I sense there's some civility today because we're finally going to have closure one way or another. One way or another, and it might be a couple weeks couple months before all the votes are counted. Who knows? Is that just rhetoric or will that be fact? I don't know. But there is There's a sign of civility. At least as I've gone through this day since I woke up around 7 30 Event there is Even when you walk into Ah, voting station polling place, whatever they call it. When I've talked to people Some have said they voted for by others who said they voted for Trump and there there doesn't seem to be this edge of hate connected to it. Yeah, I put out a simple Twitter poll. Byner Trump and I said I'd keep it civil, no nasty comments, and for the most part, people have been pretty good. We've had close to a couple 1000 votes. It's a landslide right now for Trump in the huge show at healed Show Twitter poll. Does that mean anything? No. I think it's close to 1600 votes now. 72% Trump 28% Biden. Then I pose that question. Then I just Sit all of you. Who gets your vote? This was on the healed show Facebook page who gets your vote? And what was the main reason you voted for your choice for president today? I said, please, no negative comments. Let's keep this civil And and that's why when I look back on Hey, where was sports at four years ago? That was an unbelievable sports here. When you look back at the timeline on the calendar from 2016. I look at my life with my Children. I look at my Children and their lives. Look at the people. I know who owned businesses. I look at the business, all men. That has business partners. And yes, since early March. In this pandemic, things are different. There is an incredible spirit in this country. That has not been captured. By both sides of the media that I don't think has been captured. In a non degrading way by politicians and the plethora of ads we've seen and heard. I think this pandemic created a spirit. And do we know the truth? Do we believe what we hear? See arino. Because we don't know who to trust. On either side of the political aisle. And to me, that's the most frightening thing about today. That I don't know who to trust anywhere in politics in the United States of America. I don't There's not one politician that I feel I connect with that his or her voice. He is the voice of what? I'm hearing inside my heart in my head. And I think that stands for a lot of you in America. I tell my Children. That I hope some day there's a man or woman. I don't care about their religion, their skin color their upbringing. There's a leader. That will take this country to the next level. With everybody. United.

"MLB show again is at ESPN MLB show the socks will take on the Tigers. In a few moments at Comerica Park as it will be doused cycle on the mound. Take on Michael Fulmer, the socks coming in minus 1 31 on the money line. The over under for runs is nine for this one. As the socks are a 500 team, and that's why I want to start with the socks being 500. Here's my first pitch. So here's what we know about the White Sox after the Sox lost the Indians last night, a game you heard right here on ESPN 1000 The Sox are on average team that needs a lot of seasoning. Blessed with good health and maybe direction, moving forward. Whatever happens to the Sox this season is gravy. I'll go back to what I said in early July about what the white socks look like from a roster standpoint. I said that when you look at this lineup with some veteran talent and a lot of young players, the young players are suspects not necessary prospects just as of yet because you had to go through a full season. It's only 60 games for this season that we're supposed to be looking at a major league baseball. There's some excitement there because we've seen some games on the White Sox. Okay, there's some signs there. But in this shortened season for development It's really for me about what we see in 2021 beyond, and what a new court can bring. I was asked earlier in the season. Hey, What do you think of the socks can't is now that we see now that that we see that the White Sox are in a position now where there's an extra You know a little bit of an additional thing going on with the wild card, you know? Could there be an opportunity for the whites have to get to the playoffs and I say, well, the good possibility with the extra time with the playoffs it very well could be maybe in a wild card situation the White Sox could get there. But ultimately, it's about development to see what happens for 2021. So they're signs that this generation of Sox players are going to turn heads Robert Alloy Grondahl Moncada Anderson of Ryu, Listen The Sox are led by young players with veterans and I think it's a good mix for the White Sox Injuries are part of the game is you and I both know, but at some point you want to be sound as a team. You want to play sound baseball. And so far, What we've seen here in the early part of the season is that Cleveland, Minnesota are better ball clubs in the White Sox. Socks come into this game losers of four out of five. Here's one thing I do know about the socks. They could be Kansas City. Okay, so can cities the bottom of the division, so the socks have lost for last five. And just watching the Evan flow of the Sox Indian Siri's that we just got out of The Indians are not special. This is the reason why many looked at Minnesota because of how many homeruns they didn't because of the power that they have. And many thought that hey, you know, there's a great possibility for Minnesota win the division again because they hit over 308 home runs last year, they added more power here in the off season. And they look good. And the socks to me is just a work in progress, and it's hard to really gauge on how good the Sox Khun B when I've had this linen litany of injuries, So you got the worst hitting out feeling the big leagues with the Indians and the socks still cannot overcome. As we talk about this in the baseball show, presented by Goose on in your company on ESPN, 1000 ESPN, Chicago and Eric, let's go back in time on a couple of the key moments in the White Sox game on ESPN yesterday. Oh,.

Let them say Mishima, Jamie Morris music there then as Fithian in for Jamie here on the Maura's Zone, along with Matt leads, we Talk some Michigan football No figure in our first hour. And if you just turn against me, and I want to hear some of that, don't worry. Coming up at five o'clock, we will get to some of the feedback. That we asked people to send in on Twitter at the Miz on air. That's the misspelled my Z, the Miz on air. We have some of that feedback. We will read that at five o'clock. That's right at five o'clock, but mad as promised. We're going to get into a little baseball here. The Detroit Tigers they've got like everybody else, say 60 Game season on tap. They're going to get it going on Friday, two games on Thursday to warm us up, But you know, the Tigers 60 game season expectation and what? You're looking forward to the most. What do you think? Ah, man. You know again, I'm just first off. I'm just looking forward to sport coming back again. I was very nervous as the conversation continued on and we didn't have any decision with Major League baseball that we were not gonna have a season here in this Quote unquote doomed 2020 but I'm just happy that we are gonna have this season. I'm looking forward to Ah Young Tiger team, You know a really low expectations. So your team having an opportunity because again with only 60 games Anything can happen. So for me, there's a chance we're Hey, this team that we weren't expecting to be very good. If they just happened to catch player or there's some other teams that are struggling. Getting going once this season. Get going, They will see what could happen with, um Or even if the season doesn't necessarily go so well, and they're not winning these games have an opportunity to see some of these young players and maybe earn another high draft pick for next year. But for me, you know, I think As a tigers fan. You know, we've been looking for hope for so long. Whether it was Matthew Boyd or Fulmer. Some of that pitching that for when we made the trade for Candelario or some of the other players that we were high, you know, highly touted prospect that we've brought in if we can just get one. Of those things to stick in the 60 game season day you find out that Candelario can be your everyday third baseman worried. You know, he does show some of that promise of being an everyday You know, potentially, I want they all star caliber, but above average third baseman if if you could get that, out of AH, 60 game season. I think that that victory or Jacoby Jones who I've always been a big fan of if he could stay healthy, and if we can get him where he you know, he stays healthy and able to play all 60 games again. Maybe you find yourself in everyday centerfielder, which we haven't had a consistent one of those. In a long time here in Detroit. So again, I'm happy that we're able to play. I've always been, you know, even as I was just starting on the show, we talked about the hiring A broad guy Gardenhire. I think he's a great guy for this young team in this crazy scenario where again hopefully we can find a few things a few things that I think that we can carry over in the next year. Yeah. If you're out there and wanted to talk some tigers with us that we would take your call. 734998 10. 50 were asking you about this 60 game season and your expectations and what? You're looking forward to the most. You know, you're right about, you know, just getting underway. Even if you just Just tell me that they can play 60 games and they'll have the playoffs. Ah, I'm in. You know, I don't really care what happens What I like to see the Tigers. Ah! Not finishing last place. Yes, I would like to see that at least take some steps forward here. But you know that anything can happen Card. If this was 162 game season, I would say, you know, I don't think so, Man. I think that's like being a little bit into this romantic preseason baseball stuff. And they certainly over the last three years demonstrated that you know anything can happen to maybe the other teams, but not the Tigers. But Because it is 60 games. I think anything that could happen is that it seems to me that the absolute ceiling for this team would be 500 if they went 30 and 30. It would be like amazing mats. The amazing Tigers, But it would just be very refreshing. It would be fun. It would be ah, little bit amazing there, but you know, you just look at some of the numbers. Where anything can happen. Then it was just two years ago, and I I remember it. Well, you know, after 60 games, they were 28 32 but but really They got within a game of 500 June 17th. I remember that part so there was what 73 games in they were getting ready to, ironically played down in Cincinnati, like they are here coming up on Friday to open things up, but they got within a game of 500 they had Matthew Boyd. And Michael Fulmer on the mound down in Cincinnati. And you know if they could get these two games well, then I am ratcheting up my expectations. This this is going to be something That was two years ago. 2018 June 17th. You know the right around Father's Day. I was making a trip to go watch the game with my dad and one ended up happening. It wasn't all that good. That cost. Janos had one like bounce off his head in and both pitchers got rocked, and I think he ended up losing 11 12 games. And you know that. Was it to the you know anything could happen to that team. They went on to lose 99 games for the second year in a row. But Yeah, when you lose 114 games like they did last year. And considering that we've gone through a pandemic and yeah, they should have they missed a golden opportunity to get things going by the Fourth of July. You know, here we are just a couple of days away. Let's just see some baseball. Let's see him. Let's see him get 60 games in I'm I'm excited to see what we've got for those 60 games. As you know, you and I were kind of talking a little bit before the show today again. I think, Mike what might happen that, you know, Best case scenario for the Tigers that we only win five games and we end up getting you know a number one draft pick again going into next season, you know, continuing to try and bolter that that farm system that might be The best case scenario, because, like you said, it is very difficult if we were playing a full season to see this Tiger's team doing much of anything, because, like you said, you know, just.

"I understand it on. Hopefully all the protocols in place stand payoff. That's my hope. Well, and you're right. I mean, you know it. It looks like the season will start this Thursday. Tiger start Friday. You know, And let's hope that it does get through the 60 game schedule. I mean, God forbid, if you know, you know, one team gets a big Ah You know, 15 people that tests positive or something like that, Which is a terrible thing, And and we get through it, But, yeah, guard E II look a guardian. I think he his mind is so Into putting the best team on the field and getting through these workouts and everything. I think that's a wonderful thing. I don't think he has time to think about, you know, worrying about. You know the virus. That's way I look at him just down there. He's concentrating so hard and just takes this so seriously. And you know, like you said, Just hopefully You know, everybody just continues. Teo. Teo, do what they're supposed to do. And we get through this. And you know, there is no minor league baseball. This see? Yeah, it's not an option. So doesn't it make sense to see the likes of Mai's torkelsson, etcetera, etcetera. Yeah, I've been giving that a lot of thought. And you know the guys that that I think about a lot is Michael Fulmer, too. You know, he works so hard and you know, under normal circumstances. I'm sitting there going, boy. It would be nice if you know he would have gotten the opportunity that just Have a couple of games in double layer a couple of games in Triple A before just being thrown out to the wolves in the major league.

"They've combined for seventy six hits the modern era record for hitless at bats, including pitchers is over eighty nine by Carl Druze from may thirty first nineteen forty seven through September twenty second nineteen fifty one. But you just have to hope that however, it is Chris Davis does not get there. The Detroit Tigers seven and three. And I place certainly surprise what he got on Detroit. So I I saw the Tigers pit I saw the Tigers play last Wednesday, and I've just been blown away by their pitching. I think it's been a lot better than anyone expected. I think a lot of people thought Matthew Boyd was potentially poised for a bit of a breakout. He's always had some good stuff in Jordan Zimmermann. He's pitching today seems to be maybe back to his old self. So the Tigers have sixty nine strikeouts by starters. Which is the second most in the majors behind the Indians. That's through ten games. They got their sixty nine th strikeout from a starter game eighteen last year. So I mean, they're just we haven't seen them be this team since sherzer in Orlando were on the team together. You know, and here they are doing that. So it's been really exciting. We'll see how long it lasts. But it's been a lot of fun to watch. And of course, they're doing that with their pitching without Michael Fulmer. Who's out at this time? So it has been remarkable. All right, Sarah. I'll talk to you on Thursday. Thanks so much for having me about, sir. As we walked suburban garden, gnome, Catholic Catholic without studying it, he notice it moves like and also tall, it's inanimate and utterly without brain function. But despite that when it got Nomi is about how gyco not only saves people money, but also gives them access to licensed agents twenty four seven online and over the phone. It's clear to them. "Honestly, I went eight thinking someone else would go nine, but I was happy to get him in eight he in the main events so far he's at one seventeen ADP. Yeah. Pretty high rife Hein Corgan able. Oh, yeah. So what are you doing with with Canaveral? I mean, I'm not touching down. But are you just passing? I'm there was no guarantee. He was gonna get all the saves anyways. Correct. I didn't love the price of where he was going to begin with because he was going like, Sean doolittle's area. You know, give guy that the guy who I know or Jose, Clerc Leclerc who just got paid give you the two guys I know are going to actually get all the saves over the guy that they moved in and out of the role number of times last year. So. This is completely out on Canadian. Now, it doesn't change my ranking of kimbrel though. I mean, obviously if kimbrel signs in the next few days, you bump him up another twenty twenty thirty spots into like the flea bay Vasquez rubbers Roberto SUNA area, you can't bump all the way back up to closer number two because he's obviously going to miss some time to prepare. But I I would be I would be Superstock because I have a number of shares of keg credible. Yes. So I mean nothing yet. But with. With knievel on the shelf Jefferson. The of we could see it we could we could definitely see the the kimbro situation sort itself out right away here. So. If I put him on a fade list because. There's no it's not gonna have any ramp up time. I just I don't know. I might go right against myself that doesn't bother me for relievers. It bothers me as much as so late. Yeah. We're so eight nine right now, I think relievers could probably get ready in a week. It's true. I just don't I just don't for me. It's like because we're so late. He's obviously gonna miss at least a week of the season. So that so I just start Mina saying how many potential saves I could be missing out on like, minus two or three. Saw you know, I I think he's actually going in a pretty decent spot considering okay what he could provide. Especially if we know that he's going to sign right now. The only reason I've got him. I'm saying like, I'm probably not moving into far from his ADP is we don't know that he is gonna sign there were those rumors that he could sit out the whole season. And maybe he just wants us. They f you to Boston in wait until they don't get any draft bit compensation in June. So. Who knows what's going? I don't understand how he is not signed yet. Like, it does not made sense. Like, not collusion's him. Just not being willing to accept what the market is giving him. Italy. At least in this case, in my opinion. He should have signed. I'm sure he's gotten offers that were worth, you know, whatever, you know, he was going to make. So he's just just signed Deutz in in the NFL. So I can use U an NL tout. I think I've my other. Both my lease. I mean at that price, dude. I was definitely. And I remember asking me like, oh, jas bucks. You're gonna do the same thing for know, how many eight dollar who Jason bought Michael Fulmer four dollars in ale tout like he's already the year. So I mean, if you lose you eight dollar guy, it's not the reason why you lost the league, exactly. And especially because but you twenty four dollar guy. What other saves? Did you get Janson? In rose from what I've heard. Yeah. So you got you got a premium guy and a share in another bullpen where we love the guy. He's always hurt three guys tend to punt saves. And so I can now trade the dollar kimbrel to make up some offense. If he if he signs like, I can take Kimbrell and go two months..

"She's still on the podcast podcast calling. I know what are you going to do? But we did get a Bleacher tweet day from PK Steinberg. Speaking of the Tigers in that fomer injury PK wants to know, do you think the Tigers are going to lose a hundred and fifteen games? Well, no, that's like assuming Mike Michael Fulmer was like a twenty war player. Right. Gonna lose that now. But. Yeah. They could lose one hundred right? I mean, I guess the only good thing is they get a play the White Sox in the royals. In all seriousness. I think if you put them in a in a stronger division, they might alias. It's not out of the question for them to lose one hundred and fifteen games. But the weakness of that AOL central will probably prevent them from doing so, but you, but you definitely have triple digit losses. If you're gonna have, you know, have to usually you never take the over one hundred losses because it doesn't happen that often, but we did have three hundred loss teams last year. You know who knows right? The White Sox. Royals tigers. They're all gonna lose ninety. Plus, one of them will probably lose a hundred and you can probably pick one out of a hat while we're in the in the game of picking numbers here. It's not the numbers game. But we're picking numbers BUSTER said yesterday that he expects. Aaron judge to win MVP and hit over sixty home runs. Did he say over sixty? System is heard that in somebody said fifty but well, look, I'm gonna agree with BUSTER, maybe not on the sixty home runs. That's a lot of hold on and judge draws so many walk. So he doesn't get you know, a ton of at bats. But he is my AL MVP pick. What do you think about that? Josh it's got hurt you being a Red Sox? Yeah. I guess I mean, I can't really disagree with it though. I think he is going to have a monster year. So I mean, why not and I think the Yankees are going to win the division win close to a hundred games. I have I think ninety seven if that all comes true, then he's probably the most deserving of AOL MVP. I can't agree with that. Yeah. That's my take. I have them winning the division. And I think that's why I would rate him ahead of Mike trout or Mookie or Linda or Ramirez or match. They all has so many MVP Calvert Jose altuve, as you know, the top wind talent among the AL position play..

Like some of these other players does the possibility of a breakdown concern you couple years down the line. If you're looking to pay him four hundred four hundred and fifty who knows how many hundreds of millions of dollars. That's a really good question. Now, generally speaking speed players players with athleticism, obviously, they age better. So on that side. That's a plus for Mookie. You're right. If you're smaller players that concern, I don't know. We just saw each row Suzuki played until he's forty five years old and he weighs about hundred and sixty pounds. So you know, mckie's battle the couple. Minor injuries. The last couple years he played what one hundred thirty seven games last year. He missed a little time. But for the most part he hasn't had any major injuries. So I think that's one of those hard that. No. Durability is probably the most impossible thing there predict with a player, but I don't think just because he small that's necessarily negative some injury news coming down over the last couple of days. We'll start with the as tough couple of days for them. They lose games in Japan. Obviously word coming down earlier today. Hazings Lazardo gonna be out four to six weeks with a muscle strain in his left shoulder. He was supposed to make an impact for these guys. And not saying that he can't down the line. But I think it does for Oakland's rotation the beginning of the season. Yeah. Well, you just want these first two games. Right. I know ace are panicking. Mike fires Marco strategy today, necessarily, look all that great Lazaro, you know, their top prospect supposed to be, you know, an impact pitcher this year, maybe even make that opening day roster. Yeah. This is the as they always find a way all the injuries. I mean last year they're five men opening rotation all got injured and they won ninety seven games. So I'm never going to write off the as but Lazaro very exciting. Young pitcher. Let's hope it's just the four to six weeks, and you know, nothing beyond that. And I suspect you are going to write off the Tigers. Especially with the news that Michael Fulmer, unfortunately, going to have Tommy John this is going to be bad in Detroit. You know, my my quick take on this. And you feel bad for the kid. He was a really good rookie of the year candidate a couple of years ago. Now, he's battled injuries. Hopefully will be okay down the road. But yeah for all these teams that tore things down and our rebuilding. The Tigers in the White Sox. These rebuilds are moving very slowly, you know, tiger. Daniel Norris was supposed to be a really good pitcher by now, you know, Michael Fulmer Jordan Zimmerman they signed up A for. free agent. He's been a disaster. They have no pitchy. No hitting not a lot of fielding there. Their their train wreck right now and the White Sox. They're young players haven't developed yet. I know our former colleague Sarah Lang's was on the show today tweeted something about Lucas g Lido terrible spring. He's had fallen up last year's terrible years. So the White Sox Tigers there are long ways from winning. You can you can still call Cerro colleague. Yeah..

"I mean, it's crazy to think that we're at that point. But we're getting pretty close to that point Tigers just less Michael Fulmer for the year to Tommy John. The White Sox have lost another prospect. Tommy John dean dining. Going under the knife. You. Tommy, john. Quieted down. And then he tweeted out a picture of him on a surgery. They should have done it two weeks ago. I've got him in a deep fantasy. That's a really fancy like if you're getting. Listen, you know, how deep in nerdy. This fully like it is a it is a let me tell you it. It is like multiple layers of narrating obvious. Not only do I not only do I have deigned dunning, but I have deigned dunning on a contract that starts at one hundred thousand dollars because it is an auction league. A simulated baseball game where where they're actually nine innings of six games. Played every week. You guys. Nerdy. You're taking door to a whole new level of that. My man, I'm telling you, thank thank you for the carpeting, you're coach show to let you know that at least you lost ever break a piece of news. But Dane dining is you know, he's nowhere near the big leagues yet. But now they lost them. I mean, but you wrote the book on this. I mean, it's just. I don't know if that maybe is the right word. I mean, it just it seems to be engulfing the sport. I mean, everywhere you turn young guys big names. They just have to get Tommy John surgery. It seems like almost every one of them. Yeah. And I think it's more reality at this point that you know, that that if Europe pitcher, and you don't have Tommy John surgery, then you're the exception. And and the scary part is it's happening. I'm really young guys too. I mean, we're not just talking like college age we're talking like high school, and we're not just talking high school. We're talking like freshmen in high school. And the thing is the greatest predictor of a future. Arm injury is gone. A past arm injury. So if you're a guy who was sixteen years old had Tommy John the idea that you're going to have a ligament that holds up for another decade. Plus, it's very rare that that happens. Always appreciate the time. Jeff, thanks so much. You guys suck. I can't believe it. Unbeliev-? Talk to you soon, buddy. Put that new promo that put that in the promo is right. That's Jeff passan. "Show. So yeah. But the tires decide Jodi Mercer though, recently that made big splash. Changed the entire face of the franchise right there. But the Tigers are in the same boat. I think the central is is still Cleveland's division. Even though they're still trying to blow it up, and they seem to they can't you don't think Minnesota know who does Minnesota have. I think they've been there were the second place team in the division. They had the ad Nelson. Cruz is still on steroids. I don't think I don't think they're winning anything. I think it's still Cleveland's division to win. Really? I I think Cleveland's can have a down year this year. They've like you said they've been trying to push. They can't though they're trying. They still got Jose Ramirez and Francisco endured two top young players in the MLB. I think I think that they still have a chance to win the division. I think it's their division to win. I think the winner of the AL central division will win. About eighty two eighty three games. And you win forty of those playing the divisional teams by accident. Disgrace. It's the worst division in all sports. Maybe maybe in the history of the MLB. I mean, there was one team over five hundred last year three no to one hundred loss teams Tigers lost ninety eight games. I want the Tigers to lose one hundred games next season. They need to pay top five again, and and build this pitching rotation because their farm system is starting to shape up with Casey Mizen in Alex fado. So this this pitching core. The core of the pistons or the Tigers have sorry. I'm I'm so fed up with the person I'm saying their name about the Tigers tiger's young quarterback. Now is starting to look good. So, but maybe there's a third team right now between Philly Chicago, I should say fourteen with the New York is also in the mix. But I think there's a recent report that there's a fourth hidden team is a mystery team. It's still interested. It's the Tigers. I'm pretty I'm thinking, it could be L A, honestly, L A could still have interests in Manny Machado. I think Bryce Harper is still a guy that that teams are still gonna go after because he's decided between DC and Philly right now Phillies overall goal juicy. This report the ESPN tweeted out that the that the Philadelphia Phillies are trying to sign Mike. Trout and Bryce Harper and twenty twenty one folks that's not happening. That'd be awesome for the sport. It's not happening. Why no Bryce Harper's the worst rightfielder besides net. Castanos the entire major league. Speaking of Nick Cassiano. My my hope for Nick is that he has an incredible first half of the season, and we can ship them out and get a boatload in return. I'm open twenty home runs in the first half. It's three thirty and then we can get even more young prospects and get this rebuild going at a faster pace than it is right now. They could have done that with Michael Fulmer Val two years ago, they blew it. Michael Cobra had one of the worst seasons in the rotation the seat within six games. So he's another guy though, he can put it together. The first half of the season you ship them out immediately. Right. When you get the chance to that's when you pull the trigger that blew it. A couple years ago they could have gotten four top prospects for many organization for Michael Fulmer rookie of the year right on. Yeah. That was a frustrating move. Also guys, we got a couple of Facebook comments here. Another one from Steven Wilson. This goes back to the pistons Isa's if someone offered you lottery picture play could you blow it up and go total rebuilt. Oh, yeah. Yeah. But they can't though I think it's impossible with all the financial stability that the pistons had with staff had gotten to giving Andrei Reggie now Blake they all have max deal. So it's it's tough to do. But if they could find a way to do it. I'm all for it. Yeah. And we lived through the will bind them days. So I think that we could live through say Austin day. I think we can through a couple more and last communist from Melissa Hamid. And she says lands perish was an amazing catcher. Luke, I said it in our lifetime amount of fossil. Lands perish play about what twenty five thirty years ago. So I mean, we're eighteen nineteen years old. Yeah. So we're not fossils were young Padre. Padre Padre is old 'push his old. Our in our in our books. I'll never forget that. Oh, sixteen Placido Polanco or don't has hit that bottom of a Houston street in the AL to send us to the World Series. And rounding third base was pumpkin had going. Ground third base greatest memory was that ski mask. Yeah. Those unbelievable. Okay. The back to the actual topic at hand that we have a minute left until we have to go to our next segment Bryce Harper in just pick a team, San where's Bryce Harper going? You know, what I think he's going to the Chicago Cubs. Okay. They they were they cleared up his contract. It's a bold prediction. I think Bryce Harper is going to be a Chicago cub. Okay. I have one thing to say about that. Drew? I'm gonna say look, you mentioned how bad of a right fielder is I think the perfect place for those dimensions. And for his salary is the Bronx, New York Yankees. He can get away with D H. Yeah. Right. Yeah. In that outfield. He could get away with being a right fielder in the right field. Take two steps here at the wall. But yeah, I think that's probably the most reasonable foot for Bryce Harper and the Yankees. Pinstripes. I'm thinking he's gonna go to Phil Philadelphia. I think they got the cap space or trying to get a Dallas kaikal they're trying to get Tai Chi Chi clinical remember that they're trying also yet. Craig kimbrel from Boston. And I think Bryce Harper another guy that can make his way over to Philadelphia Phillies are on the rise. So that's that for baseball. Now. It's time for just say up withdrew Cal scoreboard report. Take it away. Thank you Lou and take it through the whole slate of NBA games today. Early games you got thunder and Sixers. The thunder took care brisk business in Philadelphia. One seventeen one fifteen sons in Hornets that one was all Hornets one thirty five one fifteen your pistons are playing the Sacramento Kings. They're in action right now. It's seventy nine seventy two as a third quarter winds down from bucks in magic bucks. Look like they're going to get a win late in the fourth quarter there up ten in. "So that has a little bit cautious with anybody else in the eighty one to ninety range that you touch on between minor Stroman Derek Rodriguez, really I mean with Roman put out at sweet how the tops and I ground ball rates of two thousand eighteen who's through many being at the top around sixty two percent. And it says the names in that list are not names you want to be associated with and the argument I'm trying to make is that those that are I remember back in two thousand twelve thirteen though the big hype was we want high ground. Dog is obsessed. Strikeout ability. I do not believe this anymore whatsoever. And it's seeing this especially with that bad infield in Toronto, maybe gets better. But Nope, that's that's percent for me with him because I off turf alone is enough to dissuade me because it's a fast infield. And then Laura's gurriel Brandon jury and Devon Travis. I'm out hundred percent, right. So he has a really changes approach, and he's not going to know whatsoever. So the only only guys like think of that are successful as high Graham ball people Aaron Nola was at like thirteen on the list. Fifty percent, okay. Then against rooms that sixty two percent kaikal was super good at it. When he was in his prime. But I don't see that being Marcus Stroman. I don't think he has the other secondary stuff even the slider could be so good. It's just he's not using it. Right. The whole thing is just doesn't work. At all can be successful. But it is. So it used to be in your right back in twenty twenty thirteen. It was just treated as like an automatic asset ground ball guy. So he's good. No does he have the context to turn those ground balls in outs. Because if not then he's a hit machine and that Homer becomes a three run Homer because he already has two singles on base. And so I completely agree with you that it was just overrated blindly. It can still be viable you have to have the offense. And ideally like the park, which isn't there aren't many turf fields anymore, but turf is making things faster and more difficult to make playable for for the infield. You don't want that? So it's not an eliminator. But it's not it used to just be like automatic qualifier year ground wrong guy, your somebody drafting not anymore. I fully agree with you there. All right. Let's move onto ninety one through one hundred. We got Matt Boyd Michael Fulmer love that the first tiger pitchers to show up on the entire list. Ninety one and ninety two that's sweet Tigers going huge season. Go one fierce fires. Dana Vince Velazquez, my boy, Brandon Woodruff, Anthony Dusko funny. Matt Strom and Matt Harvey. Let's talk Michael Fulmer because I know we're going to have to say something about him. We've always been obsessed. Hell let's assume health let's assume a modicum of health here because we're going to say that obviously. So let's just put that on he's pitching where you at. Now, if you if you see a healthy, Mike, Michael Fulmer in spring, what is your reaction to that as far as death thing? So in the one thing the one thing I'm looking at is how is he using his changeup? Yes. Because that was the pitch. I remember when he first came up is the fastest the slider. Was there starts to incorporate that change of insects start doing that was when he started having that rookie of the year campaign those credit to James McCann, by the way, who really encouraged him. Nice. You dive in with it and just trust it and kept calling it..

"I love the full thing. So you think foam is going to back. That's why. Absolutely. I don't. I don't know. Yeah. I was a little worried about him bouncing back. I love fomer though. I was very happy when Berlin left there because not what you'd be, you know, leave there because he went to a team to try win because I like Rhode lender. But it gained full were the position. I think he is going to be nice, and I got Scott Barlow. Our core. That's a name. Yeah. I don't know. Why I I really liked watching him. He was the Tokyo the Japan Series. Yeah. I think so he he pitched he represented the. And I don't know why just ruse really I just he had fifteen innings. I think he's a named for the royals as a bullpen. Peace moving forward. I just I just really like to stuff watching that Japan Series. I mean, he he he low key. And was kind of not really any talk about the about the whole thing. I think he started yet for innings or something like that. Yeah. I mean, he's got all the tools six three or two hundred pounds is younger. He's twenty six years old. I mean, I think he's a name. He walked pen for those guys if not at the trade deadline. If he if he gets the the the reps at the big league level. You know, like I said, I think this year was his was his debut. So who knows who knows what he might bring up. But I like Stephen Dov as I saw him a bunch in Rochester. What the twins? He obviously made his debut this year. You know, had seven games twenty four innings in those games. But he's just nasty, man. Like, I know what the bigly level translate. But. There's there's sometimes you just gotta be okay with the non translation, I think the reason he falls five is because he's still a prospect. He still moving forward with his development. But man, the kid the kid was absolutely nasty. And I think I think the twins got a really solid pitcher. He's twenty four is going up. So the bottom part of my list, the foreign five or are younger guys. But I think Michael Fulmer is gonna come back have a hell of a year. An obviously you can't go wrong with anyone on Cleveland roster. Their pitching staff is absolutely disgusting. Even if they don't trade kluber. I mean, you gotta pick them as the favourite as to to win the division again. Even by eight-plus game. But I mean. There really isn't another team in that in that division that we can say like, hey, you know, they're gonna. India's a run for their money. No, not at all in one more. No on Barlow that I found interesting and he's not a power pitcher by any means. He's a pitchers pitcher. And what I mean by that is that he doesn't throw hundred ninety eight the average fastball. Liam will be is ninety three. He throws it around ninety the average exit Blasi is eighty eight and he throws aiding exit Blasi goes out eighty nine. So he's not throwing the ball hard. But they're not hitting the ball hard aren't either? And that just shows that he has good stuff. And I know that we're throwing around a lot. But when you're not throwing the ball hundred dollars an hour. It's nine going out over ninety. That's that's pretty good. Tiger fans. Tiger fans have nothing to sneeze foam or you ought to save nays. But give it a couple of years you'll have Matt manning in you'll have also Casey Mayes up in three four asleep. I think a sleeper pitcher for this year for them is going to be mad. I what am I sleep was g Alito? I think gee, levers DR in baseball, by the way. Yes, he did. I think he's actually going to figure it out sooner than later right now that traders look too good. But we got run on a Lopez out of it. Yeah. They got Lopez outlets better. But I think deluded figures out he's another guy that not top five. But on that team that seems to be a little bit better this year, you're not gonna give Cleveland run for their money. But they're easy to be good. I think he's going to be a little bit better this year. I mean, he's not got the worst..

"You guys move onto the central and feel like we covered these pretty well, they're them. And we have no really surprises. I have price on here. I was kind of living between pricing glass now. But I wound up on praying. I glass as as a six. Yeah. I thought he was I. I think he could definitely for the five spot for me, you know, for Tarpley. But I just think there's there's so much upside the Tarpley in a full season, right? That that I think glass now we'll see what we get with him this year. I think we've finally David price. The reason is even on my list is I think he solved the one thing that people were kinda yelling at him about is that postseason starts in. Let's dad one bad start against the Yankees. That's obviously the demon. But everybody has that team. That's why prices on my list, he figured out in the postseason had a decent regular season this year. And I think he deserves to be in my top five at least. Yeah. No complaints here from price. I mean like you said if you take out Yankee starts this year, he's that he's listening. So absolutely. And everyone has that team Portillo in that same division has Jay's. Yeah. I mean, just everyone has that one thing y'all saw that team you you crush like sale crushes the ratings, you know, in Iran oriented was. Yeah. Sale sale go. I'm sure those teams growing up even in, you know, triple eight at you like all you like this ballparks great. I liked his lineup. And I'm sure you have teams number. Yeah. No. I mean, I definitely I definitely would say that there are couple teams that. I felt a little bit more confident going into than than other guys. Or other teams the ale central mean, we have the workhorse that is Corey kluber. There's everything swirling around the fact that he might be traded here. So I have kluber Bauer burritos Karaz go in hand, which mean, it sounds like Indians and friends, but I mean that is a weak division when it comes to pitching I had Nate Jones as an honorable mention. And I thought about putting Rinaldo Lopez in there too just because he had he had a really good year in my opinion. Yeah. That's I mean, you kind of set best that division is the verse the worst division in baseball. I think by and it's only going to get worse as the Indian sell off either team as they are started to this year. We the same top three. I've kluber Bauer Barreiras. My last two though is Lopez that you just mentioned by four am I number five Oliver Perez, and the reason why I put him. There wasn't fifty one games. He had a one three nine ERA in a point seven four with reliever. He's got a kind of sidearm delivery. You know, not over the top. Not. It's not generic all and guys like that. They last a while and he's a little bit older. But man when you can just go out there and pitch one inning real night and in a week division. I feel like he's going to do it again in the division. The White Sox will be better this year. The royals rally won't be a wet saw. I mean, the Detroit will be in Minnesota. Hit or miss with them. Both daily, you know, violent worn guy who I love and the youngest no manager in the league. Maybe legistors like thirty five years old. I think Nelson Cruz like thirty three resulting and he's on the team too. So that seems to be interesting. I like Peres I had a Clemenger in there as a Arbel mentioned because I don't know how much he's going to do it again. It was at exactly two hundred innings this year with a three point O to your a I don't know they call lightning ball with him. But I am in their number six. Yeah. I got a. Kluber in hand as my one to Michael Fulmer as my three. I got. Stephen Gonzales is five. For the twins. And I got. Sorry going through my notes..

"Whereas they both have a breaking ball, and he has a faster than it can actually use. So I I would. Favor. Luke Weaver over those two as well jokes aside on on Matt Boyd. And I talked about Jake June on the pitch podcast because of his slider. But no gimme Weaver, and I don't really see a scenario where the price could skyrocket to a point where I would be interested. I don't like there's high price of two seven. That's what I'm saying. There's no spring that he could have that would greatly altered his price to a point where I'm like. Wow. Luke weaver. Sure has gone up. It just won't happen. It won't happen. So I'm not even I'm not even worried about anything like that happening as far as Luke Weaver goes. And when was that trade because I think even if you even if you did the date on NFC since the trade, I still doubt that his price has gone up to a point that we was looks like it was on the fifth. If I move twelve I don't know if there's been enough drafts for Shalit's since then there's been thirteen thirteen drafts just champion. He's three twenty Lukwebo three. That's it's like people don't want. You know, what that's fine, Justin. I are here to pick that up that. I mean, don't get again there guys around that area the Mike saroka Michael Fulmer, but I'll take him over plenty of Mike fires on Justice field. Who's never thrown in any in the major leagues, I enjoyed what might fires did last year. But the idea that he's gonna do that again. I'm not I'm not in on that. Again. Matthew Boyd just now, you shut your mouth, but Matthew boy, come out again. I mean, a fantastic person. But not good at throwing a baseball. I swear to God if you if you if he comes out of your mind or something I wish your love with. I don't I don't Trevor Williams. Trevor may and Trevor Williams does dream I actually think but Trevor may and bread Phillips if you'll hear me rarely talking eighty grade troll. Dude. That's awesome. I think is podcast as well. Does he so maybe maybe I'll become friends with him. And I'll start hyping up Trevor Trevor Williams as well. If you guys want me to start becoming internet friends with people and be like yell. He's a he's a great pick Paul. He had a five year. Yeah. I put him on every team even ten team mixed league. I had to do it. He's he's awesome. All right. Next up is tab over. You might have the name radio ready who is it Jimmy and we've talked a little bit about him too. But. I'm not I'm not internet friends with him. But he is also in like, the twits community and everything. Not yet players have way too much downtime is what you're right. It's like they work out. Like Brett Phillips was talks about schedules. Again, go, you know, work out for a few hours or anything. And then I'm free. I have nothing else to do. And so that's why took up buying games and streaming because he just had all this extra time. Like, you can't work out. Literally all day, you put three four hours in what more can be asked of you. So, but yeah, Jimmy Nelson. I just love, you know, the fact that he's been forgotten because he missed all of twenty eight teen shoulder issue after timing back in after it was a base hit where he rounded first. And then, you know, dove back into get back on the base and not how hurt his shoulder. Yeah. Absolutely, brutal note never hustle at never Matthew. Hostile. So he had an amazing twenty seventeen and I don't know that he's gonna come back instantly. Do that twenty seven percent strikeout rate. Eight percent or seven percent walk rate three forty nine area. One twenty five whip combo, but I think he's going to be near that. And I'm really excited for what he's going to be able to do and just from a pure baseball standpoint. I think it becomes their ace and walk. You didn't really have any last year..
MLB: Analysis of the starting pitchers available for trade
"Get nothing happens until the final final day on july thirty first year ago jose cantata was a key piece for the chicago cubs obviously in the month of august of orlando was a key piece for the houston astros it seems that starting pitching available this year at the trade deadline is a smaller pool and are the mets going to deal and if they don't who's the most coveted starting pitcher available at the trade market yeah how did you mentioned anywhere they're gonna trade jacob degrom get blown away to trade noah syndergaard trade muslim traded tom see very is so so it's a very weak wool someone had a started a decent available you get a lot of them you know what i mean everybody would like to have michael fulmer detroit years of control changes chris archer of tampa and now the best available you know maybe a j half of toronto cole hamels taxes you know maybe wheeler with with the mets there's not a whole lot out there let me play out a hypothetical for you i have no idea what your opinion is on this and so you might be a against my thoughts on this but let me play out a hypothetical that potentially the second best record in the american league and the second best record in the national league could both be wild cards this year his major league baseball anywhere close to exploring expanding the one game wild card into a mini series is that a playable does that story have some legs to it yeah they haven't discussed that but about guarantee if the ink is a red sox get knocked out and walker game the end is going to become an issue getting we haven't had that big upset yet in a in a wildcard game i was going to happen at some point here the thing is tv loves it i mean you get the atmosphere and so you know ratings are usually pretty good in the one thing that if you have a best at three but you could you have an offday between a travel day the team that wins the divisions can be sitting around for awhile almost six or seven days and we've seen world series teams have sat around for six or seven days play terrible the world series so they think it'd be just a disadvantage for winning your division you have to sit around that long pretty start planning it right and you have to protect monday as a playoff day right for a one game playoff the so you have to protect monday so even if you went best to three you could go tuesday wednesday thursday but a division winner would be waiting at least until friday before opening up against the wild card winner that's the issue right yeah and you know think about a travel they too so could the tuesday wednesday travel thursday same friday travel that again maybe waiting a complete week so that that yeah that's a problem too as far as as far as doing that unless you just said a best at three one site no travel yeah and that that becomes the that becomes the issue and to your point initially if if the yankees or the red sox are involved as a one hundred and three one hundred four win team in this case maybe playing a one hundred win seattle mariners team one of those teams doesn't advance after nine innings that's the part that i think will get stuck in people's car sure yeah definitely i mean you cleveland sunday we'll turn on ninety five hundred but then cleveland was only winning eighty five games and win the division that would really drive people crazy 'cause young 'cause they're division is so bad but yeah those things those things are going to happen and it's almost like when the giants that year one of her three games and ninety three and sat home i think that it almost kinda helped trigger the.
