So as a team and I were looking over the episodes we've released this year, I realized that I was significantly lacking in solo episodes. As a matter of fact, I think there's only been one this year. So before we close out the year, I wanted to have some time. One O one, so to speak, for us to just check in about how I'm doing. Hearing feedback from you all about how you're doing. And I really think it has been hard for me to think about it already being December, right? So how are we already closing out another year? Time still feels very, very weird to me. I look at my calendar and I think didn't I just have this meeting last week, but it really was three weeks ago. I really feel like I have lost the complete ability to delineate the passage of time. So the kids are back in school this year, which helps me to kind of have a bit of a schedule and understand how hours are passing, but in terms of days and weeks, all of that still feels incredibly fuzzy. So I feel like so much of this year has really just been me completely consumed by book writing and book editing. And I think that most of us would agree that any time you are doing something new in your career, something different, then it is a different learning curve. And I feel like that definitely has been the case for me this year. So for those of you who don't know, if you have just joined the therapy for black girls community, I am currently writing my first book, sisterhood heals that scheduled to come out in the summer of next year. And it has been quite the journey. So I'm very, very excited to finally share with you all in the summertime, but it definitely has been a lot to get here. I think it was just a very different process than anything that I was used to. And so in a lot of ways, it has felt like writing a dissertation all over again and for anybody who has written a dissertation. You know that it is not the easiest process. It's a lot of back and forth. A lot of okay change this and edit this. Let's rework this. And so it has been very, very consuming. So I think that that is in large part why time has felt so fuzzy this year is because it has felt like I have been very much hid down in the writing and editing phase while the rest of the world just kind of continues on the outside. So y'all know that I love a good TV show. I love catching up on all of the new shows that y'all are watching. There have been some really, really good shows that come out this year. And so in the midst of writing, I have tried to reward myself with episodes of a favorite show or give myself the opportunity to check out new shows as they come out. And so I felt that it would be good or maybe helpful to you to share some of what I have been watching as we prepare to perhaps have a little bit of time off for the rest of the year at the end of the year. So if you're looking for a good show to binge watch or add to your watch list, I do want to share a couple of the things that I have been watching. So that you may check it out and we can have some conversation around it if it's something that you're interested in. So the first two that I'm going to share all of the episodes are out and they are just great drama and lose yourself in a show and like what's going to happen lots of twists and turns and beautiful cast. So the first one is reasonable doubt, which is on Hulu. So it is the story of a woman who's an attorney. There's some family dynamics, a love interest from the past. That kind of enters the story. And again, just lots of great drama, beautiful cast. Michael ealy, who, of course, is always just a pleasure to see on the screen as one of the actors in the show. And so that was just a great show to watch again just because of high drama. I had a chance to kind of get to my girlfriends. It really invested in the storylines and we all were watching it together and chatting about what we thought would happen for the finale. So if you're looking for a good one to add to your list for this holiday for some time off to your watch list, reasonable doubt on Hulu is a great one to check out. The second one that I just started watching, so all of the episodes are up on Amazon Prime, but I am not completely finished yet, so y'all don't spoil anything for me. Riches is the newest one that I am watching again. Beautiful cast about a family in the beauty industry. I could imagine this perhaps being like a fashion fair kind of family or the Johnson family who has been in beauty. But it's a great, again, high drama, lots going on, lots of internal kind of family conflict. Lots of juicy kind of thrills to kind of pull apart in the last episode that I watched was really getting to a good point so I'm excited to finish so that I can see what actually ends up happening. So riches on Amazon Prime is another great one to check out. A third one to add to your list if you haven't already is sex lives of college girls on HBO Max. So the second season just started a couple of weeks ago and it is one of the funniest but not like fallout laughing kind of funny just like super humorous and like just great writing in the actresses and actors are doing a great job. So sex lives of college girls is about four women roommates who are in their first year of college and just all of the things that you experience in your first year of college. So just a great story I have really enjoyed that again. The second season just started. So you have a couple of seasons to watch if you enjoy a good binge. The next one is one that we have covered quite a bit here on the show. Queen sugar y'all know is one of my favorites and it's probably one of the most beautifully shot, beautifully acted shows that has ever been on television. So it just wrapped up its 7th season and the final season. So the series finale premiered last week in just was such a beautiful and moving tribute to all that that show has been. So it's the story of the border alone family is a family in Louisiana. So a lot of the scenery felt very familiar to me, it was actually shot not very far from my hometown, at least some of it. So it's the story of the borderland family. And all they go through after their father passes in their efforts to kind of stay close as a family, but also to keep their family home and their family land. So you see all of the trials and tribulations that they go through with the people in their community but also as a family unit, but the finale was just superb. Probably the best finale I have ever seen of a TV show. And I won't, of course, boil it for you, but I will just say that the closing song of the finale completely took me over the edge. Bawling for at least ten minutes. Just beautiful, like the timing of it was beautiful again, the scenery is beautiful. There are 7 seasons, like I said. So if you're looking for something to really commit to over your break, then I definitely would encourage you to check

"What happened? It became The CW and it was all about Veronica bars. I mean, Gossip Girl and, you know, all those shows that I love too. But yeah, it's like all the black people. You know, homeboys and outer space. All disappeared. So let's talk about another character. And Trinity is a character that I love. This is Ashley Nicole black's spy character named Trinity, who's able to solve crimes, simply because people treat her as if she's invisible. And being overlooked and discounted is a reality for many black women. April Ryan, White House journalist, interviewed her on my podcast. She told the story of a time when misses Obama as First Lady of the United States walked outside The White House, you know, with no disguise or anything and nobody noticed her. And so way of talking about the invisibility of black women. Talk about the importance of Trinity. Yeah, and I think this character that Ashley has created shout out to Ashton Nicole black and her birthday tomorrow. Give her love. Social media. But she is a genius writer and a genius performer, and she came in season one with this character, and she said, basically, she's a CIA's top agent, not only because she's great at what she does, but because she's invisible because she's just a normal looking plus sized black woman. And I think we can't discount what, you know, larger sized black women in this world have to deal with, but also when you have the trifecta of being, you know, not a glamorous movie star. You're plus size and you're black, all of those things render you invisible. To some degree in society. And I think that her commentary is so sharp in the series. And it's so brilliant. And it's so funny, but so poignant. And I love the fact that she made her so good at her job that the invisibility just allowed her to take it to the highest level, but it's such a great biting commentary on society and how we treat people and how we other people and how we literally just ignore a large segment of the population. And I know she's made a lot of people feel seen. Yeah, and I'm not even a black woman, but as a black person, I totally get that. I mean, that segment, that sketch, always resonates with me. You know, The New York Times said that with each episode, or I'm sorry, with each season, a black lease sketch show has become, quote, less interested in lampooning the world than creating its own. So I wonder how has the show evolved from exaggerating the absurdities that black women deal with to bringing audiences into the world they live in? Well, we are calling it the BLC U, which is the black lady cinematic universe. We now have our own. We've created this cadre of characters who have come back season after season or skip seasons, but now going into season four, we know that we have this multiverse to work with, right? So there's different levels where, yes, it's not the end of the world anymore, but spoiler alert, if you haven't seen the finale. It is a world in which doctor hadassah was elected president, although briefly. So it's not the normal world that you and I know. And so in this cinematic universe, basically, characters started to meet, you mentioned slurred words, which was the Scrabble game. That was a sketch where none of our core cast was in it. And then after that we had a sketch called distraction where Trinity actually meets my character Octavia, who had never been in a sketch before, and they meet and team up in this black lady cinematic universe. So what's going to happen now? Avengers style is that all of these characters we know in doctor hadassah's mind controlled world can interact. And so I'm really excited. For those of us who are for those of our audience who have been on the journey with us for three seasons, but even people who have it, you're still going to be able to jump in at any point and get the comedy out of it, but we're rewarding the people who have been with us from just what seemed like lampooning to now creating our own universe, which was always my intention and I'm so lucky that HBO gave me the bandwidth to do that over multiple seasons. Another thing that makes a black lady sketch show so fun to watch is the roster of guest stars who you have come on the show. I was watching the scene the sketch where Nicole comes with her girlfriend and she comes out and Vanessa Williams is her mother. And she screaming about, oh my God, that's disgusting. This is spider behind her. Ashley, sorry, naturally. Yes, yes. And so Vanessa Williams you've had on. Ava duvernay, Michael leger Rodriguez, Michael ealy, just to name a few of the people who have been on the show, how hard is it to convince this they're seeing the spider. How hard is it to convince them to come on a black lady sketch show? Is it even hard? No, it's not hard. I think, you know, I mean, listen, I have people now who are threatening me with bodily injury if they don't get on the show because they've been asking me for years. And I'm like, I only have 6 episodes people, but no, I think I've been in this business a long time. Despite being very young. I garnered a lot as a writer and as a producer and also on camera, but mostly as a writer, I've gained a lot of fans because I've worked with people behind the scenes. And so it feels like to people in their homes. They might be kind of just getting to know me in the past couple of years, but I'm really entrenched, especially in the comedy world, but I don't know, like Vanessa Williams and I did a movie together years ago. We've done two movies together, actually. And so, you know, just through the smallness of the black community in the smallness of Hollywood, we all, you know, I just know a lot of folks and so I just texted Vanessa Williams and was like, when are you back from London? I know you're doing a show. If you want to come do this sketch and I sent her the sketch and she was like, yeah, I mean, that's kind of how it happens. Lance Reddick though, we got through casting through our amazing season three casting director Vicky Thomas, she was like, Lance wants to do a sketch and I was like, I love him. I loved him on the wire. I loved him on fringe. And he was so goofy. He was in that sketch with Vanessa. He's so silly and goofy. And we've become friends. I love him. And so it all just kind of comes together, but I have to give kudos to Angela Bassett, who was the first guest star we booked season one. Who we called colds, our casting office, and I wrote her a letter, and she said, yeah, I'm gonna do it because no one thinks I can be funny. And you know, she'd never been kind of asked to do anything like this before. So once we had her, it was like any guest star we would call. We'd be like, well, Angela Bassett's doing the show. You might want to do it. So, you know, that's, I think it's become a prestige moment for actors who want to come and text on comedy chops. They know we don't punch down. We're not going to make them look stupid. Everyone's going to be funny. Ava duvernay was like, Robin, I'm only doing this for you. You've got 40 minutes, like let's make it happen. And we did, and she was fantastic. And she was like, just so game and like, she's not a performer or a comedian. Like the fact that she came to do that was such an honor for us. And such a testament to the camaraderie and this community and how much people believe in this show and they've always been so cool. We've had literally well over a hundred guest stars in 18 episodes of television and they have all been stellar. Stellar. Truly, can we talk about you for a minute? Sure. How are you? How are you? How are you doing all of this? You're writing your story. You're acting. You're the showrunner. You're the EP. You're doing all of these things in the profile in our paper in The Washington Post. The writer said you get by on four hours of sleep. How do you do it all? Yeah, not a lot of sleep. Look, I think I spent a lot of years in this business being very broke and very bored and very not in demand. And so I think it's like, yo, when the time happens, I'm not gonna waste a moment of it. And people are like, what do you do.

"You already got that 'cause it's very darky. The coolie hair dick is sticking together. Here we go. Wow. This is all right, listen. Okay. I think that we need to go back to answering what we need to actually answer the question. Where do you side with this? I still think that like that, all right, but no, I think the question is flawed. It's actually what I think. Because the question was, is Michael Ely black famous or white famous? And then somehow more chestnut got involved in the conversation. So it's like, are we the actual? So the original person. Omar, Omar eps the person I randomly checked. So Boris just so it's Moore's chestnut and we're the question we're asking is he more white famous or black famous? Yeah. I still think he's more black famous 'cause it's like there's because there's the shows that he currently has, there's the, what was the movie that he was him and Bill Bellamy and like all those other dudes that's like the best yeah, wait, is it best reality? It's like he is a specific kind of like black famous. Famous. Okay. VHS they daytime television famous. Yeah. Like he's soaked famous. That's like, he's not like, you can't read weekly recaps about him on the Internet. Okay, but can I, okay, maybe here's and this is an extension of the Omar epsom observation, right? I think the reason I'm sort of pushing this distinction is because I get the idea that some of these black actors are in big mainstream things with like huge appeal. But there's still such a thing as being a kind of black actor who like, oh, black actors know you're talking about if you're talking about Michael ealy or Omar Epps, or more chestnut. And yes, these actors are also in big mainstream things that white people watch, but they never get beyond white people being like, oh, that actor, like, he's in, he's in a bunch of things. What's his name? That's the thing about it. Yeah. Tip of the toe. You know what I mean? There's still those tip of the tongue actors, even though they've been on like 6 network procedural things. Even though they've been working for like the last 30, 40 years. And haven't aged since the four broccoli..

"You know what I mean? I do know what you mean. Too, right? All for that, right? At one point. Our general hospital. One of those two, I feel like all the black actors that have no idea. Okay, well, he was on like you thinking of Eric LaSalle. You just confused him. The air, you talk about the oh, he's right, you are. No, he's right, okay. He was an ER. He's like, really? Right, Omar episode. Doctor Dennis, I am. Oh, oh yeah, yes. Okay. University favor. I don't think he says. But you get what I'm saying, right? Which is like, it's one thing. I agree with you. I get what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that in terms of like, yes, more chestnut has his own Morris chestnut lead shows on network television still in a way that Mike leely does not currently. But I don't really feel like that's, I mean, but what's the viewership for those shows? For the more chestnut shows versus like the shows that Michael ealy is on. You get what I'm saying? Well, Fox keeps on the back. Fox keeps throwing them back. He's got like 5 shows on Fox right now. Like he's doing something over there. And you know what it is. It's because of structural disparities between light skin and.

And I was like, did Alonso approve it? Actually, I need to have some guest sneak peek stars from there. I would have loved if in school one of their teachers was like Hillary or Tatiana Ali, or of a fonzo or something like that. I think those would be amazing Easter eggs. But I did not like how Carlton wheel were not friends. It bothered me. A lot. A lot, a lot. Yes. And don't get me wrong, call to make my ass itch, run it up under the white people. Okay. I got some other stuff today. I talked about I'll save it for later. Oh. But I didn't like him and will not be in France. Also, Michael ealy playing his signature role home worker. What episode are we talking about that? And then next thing you know, he comes his ass. We were. I didn't know he was on this show. No. It was because we were watching another show. I was like, why am I destroying people homes? Sexually. Like, you never done an intentional life. It's not. You don't come in and kill them, but it's just like, he'll come and then he like flashes Bloodshot green eyes. And like, just destroy black households. I don't like that. Jesus. And then he being denial. I did hear come Yama crawl. Ain't nobody ask ya I'm a car to come to this art fest. It gonna tell Mike homework that fall back. Via now being Hillary. I'm a part. "Back to okay. We're back is and i have to get into this typhoon thing so number one. This completely derailed their trip. I think once possibly twice or at least like made them reschedule but our typhoons the same thing as hurricanes but named differently because of their location like whiskey. The defense is based on the medication. So since it's in the pacific it must be typhoon rather than american. That will be more in attentive presente. That's right so i'm telling you now don't trust me on this. I'm no expert on this. That doesn't have anything to do. It lasted okay so speaking of plastic one of the focuses is is micro plastic. So it's not just big you know plastic bags and bottles and stuff that they find. So can you describe to me. Like the complications or the or the dangers of micro-plastics before being micro plastic. It's not hopeless folks so we it starts usually big unless you have like pre-production nureddin that are discarded straight into the ocean coming from container spills but if we think and things of michael ealy and big debris this is by itself already like as art let's say for navigation and then on these big debris you can have like species from japan starting to live on these big pieces and then they travel the north pacific and then they can and up in hawaii in oregon for example with that huge doug with under the Invasive species that made the way through to the west coast of the us so these debris carry a lot of stuff there as our navigation but as the driver in the ocean they start degrading and fragmenting into smarter and smarter pieces due mostly to fatigue edition to the sunlight. That will break down a break. This mastic in two nine. Hundreds of pieces of micro plastic so once the micro plastic is micro plastic. Smile and smarter. It is the more evident burn. It will be for the food. Web meaning than smaller organization would be able to ingest them. So the smartest the the worse it is for the food web for sure and then it's harder to remove it if you want to clean the ocean or clean the beach the smarter. The pieces are the more time consuming. It would be to remove them from the beach so there are many different negative effects. Really that the plastic and even more so for micro plastic. i mean. You're telling me that a fish can have a little bit of plastic as a treat just little bit of micro-plastics it's going to real. Is it really that bad. It just past the plastic. I mean then yourself you. You eat a little bit of plastic for breakfast okay. Maybe maybe you'd be rector digested or maybe even go to but at some point if you're under plastic to eat then there's more plastic than craze in the ocean than your fill your stomach with auto this last week and then you won't be hungry emaar so you'd be like oh echina- he then you can digest it so you basically of starvation that saad yet no when you put it that way. I guess it is pretty sad. I mean this seems like a rubik's cube of problems like i don't even know where to begin solving them like you're talking about how tough it would be to do an ocean cleanup because of the micro-plastics but then i'm also thinking about you know the the complications with us eating seafood for example. And if they are. You know. If if i'm eating fish and that fishes diet is plastic. I'm probably eating plastic right this the most likely it plastic. I believe the part of the plastic that has degraded inside the stomach of fish and go through the membrane and up into flesh of the fish itself. So yeah you you might eat some plasticizers and some very small pieces of fasting that managed to go through the membrane to the flash. I think at this stage. It's really hard to data west. The effect of Passed on on seafood and fish was fake of like ingesting. Or what is it like one the equivalent of one credit of plastic every week. That's what we i mean. Let's light of it so yeah for seafood fish. I mean i'm vegetarian. So i don't eat blended chicken or fish if you wanna be on the same side might as well eat me nutty seafood and fish and it would. It would be better for the environment but if you do better to eat locale good fish so you know you're you're a bit more careful about where you get your fish. Is there any chance that the fish will mutate and become cool or have superpowers or something like that with ingesting. All of this plastic like mike. Change into superfish please. Will they just die. Adapt it'd be wonderful for many generations. I don't know it would take to get there. Okay so that's a. Maybe that sounds like an official. Maybe yeah that. Actually better than i expected to say. I don't think it's gonna happen that day she had to throw in. I don't think that's going to happen. Okay what about the results. I guess like. I mean you you know you said this was kind of a An unprecedented way of studying the plastics pollution in the ocean. So have we. Did we learn something new or was the problem just as bad as we thought. Yeah i believe. I mean in terms of new findings. We asked in analyzing the data science steak sign. We are trying to understand how the plastic that is. Closer to japan is younger the plastic for example in the north pacific garbage patch. So we trying to look at the chemical signature of the plastic so this is ongoing project. Then what we side than. In basically every centers.

I get her about 7 45 7 late late is now this is actually late 902. Not in radio in my my book. If you're not here at least an hour beforehand. You're not. Yeah, I get there late, but I mean, that's they always talk about our prep because that's what in radio, you know, basically get paid for a certain amount of time on the air and then your property and they say, one hour prep for every one hour on the air. We'll you know someone was asking me the other day. Someone says that you prepare almost two hours for every hour. Um And you know when you're doing talk radio sometimes you do, But I'm getting up this morning and I'm going to set the DVR because The futures game is being played today and it was supposed to be Jake Burger was supposed to be there, but he's playing his Bass club now. Yeah, he's playing for the big club. He's not playing in the futures game. I saw Lloyd Jimenez play in the futures game years ago when he was in the comes minor league system. Um, but it's great watching the futures game and it's not like two o'clock this afternoon. So I set the DVR for that. I set the DVR for the baseball draft, which is actually today. Usually it's on Monday or Tuesday during the week, and I want some of that. It's pretty boring, usually because you don't know any of the guys and the Saxon cut the Cubs have the 21st ever. If you're watching the futures game every year, you'll see right, you'll see, you'll be like, Wait a minute. I remember that name exactly. You'll see some of those. Well, the Fiesta the futures game, You'll see them in the draft, and then years later, you'll see him in the futures game. So that a longer way around all the way around, right, But We'll see if you watch the College World Series. You watch the College World Series, which was out for a month. It seems that maybe a little longer with all the regionals and everything else. Then you'll see those guys get drafted. So I set the DVR for that, But I turned it on and I think I had it on Show time. There was a movie last night getting ready to go to bed. I'm flipping around. Those are what we called Fatal F A. T A L E with Michael Ealy, I think and Hilary Swank. So I got sucked into watching that for a half hour. I said, I got to go to batch like DVR at the end of it. But the channel that was on this morning when I popped out on TV. Iraqi wanted just started. I said, I'm going to call Tyler say I'm not going to make it in. I'll do the show from home. I'm going to watch all Iraqi one. I mean, certain movies you just like I didn't want to leave. It's hard to pull yourself away. Yeah, I know you've seen it. How many times I know. Oh, at least I'm not a guy who season movie 100 Times I've probably seen about 15 or 20. And I'm saying OK, he's going into the pet shop to buy his turtle food, and it's hard to walk away. Even though you know every step of what's going to happen. It's great, and it's before he really talks to Adrian that much and he's talking to her and she's got her head down. And so, man. Don't want to go. I under stay. I got the DVD in the other room. I can always watching. I watched you anytime I want right now with on demand When everything else you can watch any of the Rockies whatever you want, but it's like, oh, The other day, Same thing with Independence Day. You know, they always every station seems to show it. I don't know who's got the rights or if they just gave him to. Everybody has right. They've all they all get a chance to show Independence Day and you know, at the fourth of July And so that's always that's one of those other movies that you don't want to. You don't want to turn off. I said, Put my shoes on, flipped it off. And I said, Okay, we'll have to watch some other time. You mean you turned it off for you gave the finger to the T V. I did both. Okay. Yeah, I was mad. I just gave the finger to the T. V. And then and then turned it off, Actually, literally, and then, um, so, yeah, happen in the car, but and when I'm driving down, I used to have a little One of those little it was an audio recorder. Like a little thing You call for notes and stuff like that, and I used to have it in my car all the time, because that's something that's a tool of the trade when you're going out and getting audio, whether you're in hard news or sports or whatever it seems like you also seems to get you get your best ideas. Either like for a show. I get my best ideas either in the shower or in the car on the way Here I get mine on the more do you is my more thought My wife will ask me every time. What were your more thoughts and it's amazing how your ideas just poppin so as soon as I get here, I come up with four poll questions. And usually we don't have that much. It is polar Pelusa. Once we kind of we got a bunch of we've got. We've got four than Iraq polls, So we got like five different poll questions. But it's that time of year because the all Star is all Star weekend. I guess you'd call it All Star weekend or Because the futures game of the draft and tomorrow's home run Derby and then you've got the game on Tuesday and then the white sacks and Cubs don't resume play until, UM Friday, which I'm sure for Cub fans is fine. For white sacks fans. We can't wait to play the Astros because we can't wait for it. But we do need a little rest. I'm good with the rest. I guess. I guess it doesn't create rust. Yes, rest of rust. That's what they always talk about. And one of the things for the white sacks, they extender winning streak to four. They beat the Orioles. So they right now on this trip, they could go there. Five and three of the nine game trip, the best thing to his six and three I kind of thought when you're going to Detroit, Minnesota and Baltimore should do a little better than that. I was thinking 72, but I'll take six and three. I mean, if you can, if you can win today, if you don't if you don't win today, Yeah, you know, not not quite as good. You know, or road 63. We'll take that, especially against these teams because you've got to start beating the good teams Dallas, Kinkel had said two days ago after his outing, and he says, we got to start you know, because we play the Astros from the All Star break is over. And they thumped us. He goes..

"Is it true? Is it true story? S O. E think it's based on real experiences. MLK FBI Timely having been released, uh, within a day or two of Martin Luther King's birthday. Um, it isn't a movie biography about the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. The Nobel Prize winner, Peace Prize winner, the leader of the civil rights movement in the fifties and sixties. It's a documentary about how J. Edgar Hoover's Federal Bureau of Investigation Tried to bring down this man who they perceived as a threat to the white hierarchy. They tapped his phone. They recorded his extramarital trist. They try the smear him and his advisers whether they were black or white as communists and so forth. So thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, Much of what the FBI tried to do to MLK is now public. The plan. It's political underpinnings. All that's laid out here and clear coach in fashion with news, real footage, archival clips, expert interviews and cultural card. Texas, directed by Sam Pollard, who did eyes on the prize. MLK FBI tells a compelling and shameful tale of our government's attempt to smear a charismatic clergyman who crusaded against bigotry and dedicated his life inspiring peaceful protest. In order to achieve racial equality in the U. S. You could watch it on Amazon Prime Apple TV and who do and quickly I just want to wrap up with a movie that's not Why didn't that kind of realm? Let's put it this way. We're back to B movie land in a big big way on the movie is called the tall, You know, like fatal only with the meat. It's a thriller about a hot shot L, a sports agent named Derek played by Michael Ealy as a sort of low rent Steph Curry type went repping athletes after his career fizzled. And the trouble he gets into when he cheats on his increasingly distant wife during a trip to Vegas with his friends. Little does Derek realize that the wanton woman he beds away from home is in L, a police detective. And since she's played by Hilary Swank, you know she's a butt kicker and has issues so fertile has its moments. Are you kidding of which seem cribbed from better movies, But it isn't so much awful as it's kind of tepid with confusing motivations and plot glitch. Oh, that's too bad. I love the elements. There is tepid off. No, no, no, no, no. I disagree with you, Michael. Oh Fatale market suffers from Brett. It suffers from familiarity, fatigue. Look, you know what? I I was somewhat entertained. It's well edited this far is that stuff goes and you do get bad ass swank. And increasingly freaked out. Ely and the usual solid work from muscle Man might culture of marbles, Luke Cage and the network Paranormal Show evil as derricks partner and the agency. You know, I Some people are gonna like it more than I did. I guess they call that fatal because the tall attraction was a little too close to home. Well, the tall is not a bad title. You really liked it, though. I have this funny because I like movies with that twists, and this one has a number of twists. Yeah, twists and rolling eyes await. Those were mine. Well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man. It's available on Fandango. You said Yeah. And voodoo and Amazon Prime, you know, so there you have some stuff, everybody. Yeah. It's a lie Nice nice of dump there with a lot of you know, it's immediate dump. Here it is again. Lupin is the syriza on Netflix. Lot of capers and really good stuff. Disenchantment is the one that you recommend. You recommend Syriza's three of levels right? You haven't it is. Let's be honest, Serious. Three just dropped, but you need to probably start at the beginning. It's serialized. I think, even though each episode's stand alone caper caper of its own and like kind of craziness, it does have overarching plot. And you like again. Two of the small acts Film Serious, which is on Amazon. It's from Steve McQueen Lovers rock And red, white and blue. And you like the MLK FBI documentary. And Where is that again? That's Amazon Prime You can see that also on Amazon Prime, among other places, Yes, indeed. And fatal is the one that Michael kind of did. The IRA Lon didn't think it's bad, but just didn't think it was over the moon. But Brett very, very excited about it. So he liked it says there's some twist so Our first moment of divergence between Michael Snyder and on Brendan. Hey, and I wasn't present when you reviewed news of the world with Tom Hanks. Did you like it or not? I did. I thought it was really so. Mm hmm. Okay, They're one and we're wrapping up. We'll know. Hey, bread. I'm sorry, guys. You can hear my review via cage at all Their posture radio dot com and on the podcast. That's actually right. Divergence. I will reluctantly do it and give it a day. All right, I am. "Dean Richardson knew Lucy and Desi movie coming out. It will be called beyond the Ricardos. And it is going to be made sometime later on this year. We don't have an exact date. We don't know on which streaming platform this will be appearing nor a release date. But the two people that are in talks to play Lucy and Desi Our Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem, Huh? Which seemed e guess in one way. It sort of makes sense. She's redhead. He is Latino. But on the other hand, this movie is as I'm told, follows Lucy and Desi while they were starring on the show. I Love Lucy. And Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are quite a bit older. Then they are ness is were when they were on the show. Uh, you know if it was their life after I love Lucy, if it was, you know their life after they both got remarried, and it would make more sense. But You know, to have them to have Nicole Kidman and have your bread dumpling 30 year olds doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. Yeah, I don't know. But I mean Hollywood makeup and what they can do. And I said, Look young. They're not old by any means. But I see what you're saying. They're certainly not their late twenties. Yeah, well, if you if you look at you know the I love Lucy episodes and I try to almost every day Uh, they they're considerably younger looking them. Nothing. I mean, nothing against them. Kidman, You know they're both younger than I am. But the you're gonna have hair extensions to make the difference. Yeah. There you go. I'm gonna look like share and a couple of days, apparently, but, yeah, I just think the age wise they could have found somebody else. To do this, and and I also want to point out in the cold. Kidman played Samantha Stephens when they remade Bewitched a few years ago, Maybe one of the worst movies that has ever been made. So there you go. I'm predicting I'm predicting disaster. I'm sure that with with a name like that, I just want a critic and predictions. Ass dirty movie hasn't even been major really reminded Miss Marjorie Bird would be so proud of me right now. I'm gonna get some hate mail D get in line. There you go. Jersey boys, Okay. When I saw it live here in Chicago, I left singing those tunas those songs all week long. I loved it. They already had a movie for this, right, though they're gonna Eastwood directed it. Yeah, I got another one. Well, what they're gonna do is they're gonna make they are going to make another movie of it. But it's going to be instead of taking the stage play and turn it into You know, sort of a dramatization. This one is going to be a movie of the stage play. Okay, much like much like they did with Hamels. Okay. Okay. You know where they where they took the actual stage play, and they filmed it. And then they were going to release it into theaters and said it went on Disney Plus That's what's gonna be happening with Jersey Boys. But what's really interesting here is They have signed one of the Jonas Brothers to be Frankie Valli in this new version of the Jersey Boys, So you know, I think the Jonas is gonna be great. He looks a little bit like a young Frankie Valli. He's got Broadway experience. He was in how to succeed in business without really trying and a number of other Broadway productions. He's a very good actor. I think that's AH, good choice and You're right. You can't beat that music that Frankie Valli and the four Seasons music. I love it in that production. I hope he has the falsetto for it. I'm assuming he does You know what? I don't know if if he does. And if if he doesn't That should have been part of the audition process. I think I mean, the whole thing's a talented singer, so so maybe can hit those high notes. But if not, that's gonna be an incredible strain on your vocal course. I know what is when I tried something like that. Exactly. But again, the extensions that will help you heat the higher notes. Gonna be my new show with my new show with the baton. Oh, God. I will join you in the baton. Any time you want the Richard haven't been to their new locations haven't either. Well, teen, it's a date. You and I were going. Alright. Right. Kevin Hart Signing us big deal with Netflix. Yeah, This is a great great deal for him. This is like Adam Sandler like deal of four picture deal. Which studio is very rarely do, especially in this bizarre economy that we're in right now. But that's how much face faith that Netflix has in Kevin Hart of four picture deal hey, has already put out several or several comedy specials. With them, and these are gonna be You know more. You know the kind of comedies that you see Kevin Hart in with the rock, and you know some of some of the others, So it's It's a huge major deal for Kevin. Who is It's so interesting to me because I remember so clearly. Kevin coming into Chicago. He would come on the morning show. He'd make the rounds of all the shows, you know, because he was appearing at zanies, or, you know, one stand up club or another. Come in all bleary eyed to promote his shows. And now he's one of the biggest stars in the world. And deservedly so. He he is the Energizer Bunny. You know, both comedically, but he never stops working. He never stops. You know, putting your shoulder to the stone. He deserves it. And it seems to all the post Oscar host. Not host. Snafu doesn't seem to affect him too much right? Certainly. Let's talk about Deon Taylor on his obsession. With both. So this is very this is very interesting. You know. Deon Taylor is a director. He grew up in Gary, Indiana. So you know he grew up in the Chicago area for sure. It's got this new movie out called for towel that stars Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy, which is, you know, a mystery thriller. You know, very, very serious kind of a new are, you know, sort of film, but I did a zoom chat with him. I've talked with Deon Taylor Several times. Super nice guy. But when we got on the zoom, called His Chicago stripes were showing big time. Take a Listen. Hello, everybody. Hi,.

"The last half hour we shared our conversation with two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank. And the director of her new movie, Chicago's very own Deon Taylor. Very interesting conversation. Not only about this nor thriller that they do, but I think also very, very interesting. About theaters opening up in the future of whether or not we'll be going back to theaters. What they both had to say was, I thought very, very interesting. We'll post that up on the Web, so you could watch that later. Hillary in this movie stars with Michael Ealy. Been in a whole variety of films, comedies, dramas, just everything. I mean, this is an actor who could do a lot in this movie he plays. Sports agent goes to Vegas with four bachelor party has a one night stand, returns back to his home and wife on whom he's just cheated. And that night. There is a home invasion and the detective who was investigating the home invasion is the woman from the one night stand. And she ain't going away. She's just is not going away. It's very fatal attraction like I don't think it's quite as solid Azaz fatal attraction, but it's still a good movie. I still enjoyed it, and I certainly enjoyed their performances in this movie. And we talked with Hillary and Dion on the zoom. Likewise with Michael, he'll think I'm gonna start calling you Chameleon man because you put Michael Ealy into any kind of genre any kind of role you knock it out of the park E mean, is that your intention when you choose your roles? That might have been the highest compliment I've ever received. Ever genuinely appreciate that. Thank you. Because You know you try. That is kind of the That's the goal, right? Like, you know, you know the actors that I respect growing up and that I still respect to this day are the ones that You might not necessarily be movie stars, but are able to kind of just blend in and just do anything you know, like a Philip Seymour Hoffman or don Sheetal type of actor like those guys, I just I just love them so much. And so that chameleon comment like that is that is Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, that that Z by design. You know what? I'm gonna throw a couple of other names into that mix like a Tom Hanks. I just watched him to a western, which I never saw before a Jimmy Stewart who did comedies and dramas and everything but he CEO I'm And you are you are you are the You Know the guy here, my friend. That's appreciate that. I mean, you know You know, I'm just trying. Tomo. Obviously you want to bring your a game And then when you work with Hilary Swank, you want to try and bring your double a game. Uh, and, you know, I think she's uh, She's phenomenal. She's so intense and she's so like Dialed in that you know you You have no choice but to show up on Bring it. What does that mean to you? When you you know when you go into any movie, really, and you're acting partners in the movie If you're working against the two Time Academy Award winner does that Does that mean something different to you? I think the key is to not be intimidated by it, right. You know, I think accolades can sometimes separate us. And you know, at the end of the day if we're both on a stage and we're both on a set We birth. We both earned the right to be there, and we should act accordingly. Now, none of this was a problem with Hillary. Hillary doesn't act like she's above anything. She's very much a giving actor and very dialed in and very human and normal and it was fantastic to work with her. On Again If I'm not intimidated by you, then I know I'm in a zoo long as I'm giving the space and I could breathe and play. Then, hopefully we we jam well together, and it just becomes like like jazz and a lot of ways, And it just becomes much more fun. Much more fun than anything else..

"My inspiration. Cookies is the Michael Ealy character Is that right? No, I So you know what's interesting, man? It's money. It really is a Midwest thing with me, man. Because you know those eighties and nineties. Oh, genre pictures were just kind of like, prolific in my life and all of them, you know, fail attraction. Basic instinct, You know, body heat, you know, And then you going further back with Hitchcock would you know strangers on a train? It just kind of had that kinetic energy that I love and I'm used to and, you know, obviously, I get to a point as a filmmaker now where I can actually go make something like that. Um, I wanted to present face how and I couldn't think of a better person to do it with them. This beautiful woman is with me right now. Hillary Swank. And when I tell you, I know you know already, but she is incredible in this film, and I'm excited about it. Yeah, absolutely. Hillary. I was surprised that you had never really done one like this before. You've been in so many different genres of films. The idea, and so was I. I was like, when when Dionne said, you know, Can I sit down with you and talk to you about an idea? I was like, Yeah, great. First thing, he said, was like why haven't you done a film like this? It's a no brainer. And I was like, why haven't identified him like this in my 29 year career. And so that in itself was just like, Yeah, I'm gonna You know, I love the story. I love the twist. I love that kind of whodunit factor and also that these characters were all flawed and imperfect human beings just trying to find their way and that it's really just fun. It's fun, right? You know, and I just thought I haven't done that. Course I'm in. Yeah, and you know what else really struck me Hillary with this, As you know, during these crazy times that we're living in. It just completely took my mind off of everything else That's going on in the world. It's like great theater Almost like just so draws you into the story. Yeah, And that's why we've been talking about these people are like, how are you doing during this time? I'm like, Well, you know, like everyone else, it's hard. I mean, I don't have it is harder than most people, but I might have such empathy for those people and just nice to be a storyteller right now and be able to give people an outlet for a couple of hours to escape. Wonder how both of you are feeling about the future of the movies. Right now. In Chicago, the theater's air closed a lot of places around the country. The theater's air closed Dion, I know that you're You want to get people back out into the theater so much so that you said if person bought a ticket, you would give them a ticket..

"Sharon are a list interviews with the stars. And this morning we've got some of the stars and also the director of the new movie Hotel. This is kind of a new war thriller that stars two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and one of the one of the best young male actors Michael Ealy. As the two co stars of this film. They are two people who go to Vegas for different reasons. They wind up at a bar wind up having a one night stand. Then go home to their respective families. He returning home to his family goes back to his wife on whom he's just cheated. And that night some breaks into their house. The police investigator who comes to you know, investigate this break in is the woman that he had the affair with. From the one night stand. And she won't go away it Zaveri Fatal Attraction E kind of movie. I don't think quite as intense as fatal attraction, but still pretty good. Um so Why have interviews with Hillary and with Michael? But also we talked with director Deon Taylor Dion Not really won't play a lot of directors on this show, but Deon Taylor is from the Chicago area grew up in northwest Indiana. The reason that I mentioned all of this is because he is a child of both. So as we like to call him, he grew up watching WGN TV. Watching all the Children shows that we had on the air and So when we hooked up with them on a zoom call, that would explain why he reacted like this. You've got all the time in the world you need, man. Ladies, man Words never spoken in a junket before every time I see you, man, I just want to tell you I love you, Brother. You are legendary. I'm gonna put on the air now. Right after all, Hillary, How are you? I did him good things. Nice to see you. It's great to see both of you. See on Let me start off with you. This nail biter film that has so many twists and turns. I got to think that that is from you. Growing up in Chicago and watching the bozo show Am I correct on up? That's exactly right. Man. "So we can. Hello. Testing one to talk about us. They want to Hello? What's going on today? And people will be watching jeopardy. One thing, But yeah, Today's the final day. For Alex Trebek episodes of Jeopardy Now, because of all of the breaking news, they went on yesterday Wednesday and Thursdays, episodes of Jeopardy featuring Alex Trebek were preempted. So what they're going to do over there at the Channel seven. While I You know, I don't usually encourage you to watch other TV stations. You get special dispensation for today. There's plenty of audience for everybody that I guess so they're what they're going to do is run Wednesday's episode. From 1 to 1 30. Then Thursday's episode will run from 1 30 until two and then the very final Alex Trebek episode will run in its regular time slot. At 3 30 today, that's going to seem like a regular episode they you know, what they've done is do a special tribute after the credits at the end of the show, so stay with the show. You know if you're gonna watch it Stay with the show until past the credits. And then there's gonna be a special tribute to Alex Trebek on what will be his final episode since he died last October of pancreatic cancer after Atlanta long and courageous battle that he went through. All right. So before we get to the 30 news, tell us what to watch this weekend besides jeopardy. Well, you know in, you know, I put this together before Everything blew up in Washington the other day. I should have only put comedy scene here. Three Stooges shits Creek. Uh, you know, uh, you know, you named the comedy That's what I should have put in. I've got a couple of those But as it turns out, For this weekend. The movie that I'm giving my highest rating to a Dean's list. A is an incredibly sad movie. It is called pieces of a woman. That is about one of the most horrible things that you could possibly imagine the death of a newborn child during a home birth. This movie stars Vanessa Kirby and Shailagh buff. And the great Ellen Burstyn and Molly Parker. I predict they will all be nominated for Academy Awards. They're amazing. In this very, very difficult movie tow watch. It's very sad, but it's so good and so compelling. You cannot take your eyes off of this movie that the 1st 25 minutes of the movie. And in some ways reminded me of saving Private Ryan. It is it is. It's the labor and birthing scene in this couple's home in their bedroom. And it's nonstop. It's you know, they don't have any cuts in this. It's very visceral and, uh, very, very emotional. Tow. Watch it. The rest of the movie is how the mother, the father, the grandmother, the midwife how the death of this little infant affected everyone. So I mean, even though it Zaveri sad The content is put in context and makes a lot of sense. It really kind of draws it all together, but I'm warning you, it's it's very real. When they show you everything and it's It's very, very difficult to watch. But I still gave it a Dean's list A because it's a great movie. That's the bottom line. For me. It's on Netflix. There is this sort of revenge thriller called Fatale that stars Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy. They are two people that have a one night stand in Las Vegas. He returns home to his wife and his home. The home is broken into a home invader is involved in the detective who shows up on the scene to investigate this home invasion is the woman from the one night stand. On this woman is not going away easily. It reminded me a lot of fatal attraction. I give that one A dean's list B minus. So let me just get to some. You know, some happy things that you watch this weekend to try to make you feel a little better on Netflix. There. I'm sorry on the peacock Network. Now, formally on Netflix is the office. All of the episodes of the office have been moved to this new Peacock platform seasons. 12, or freeze seasons three through nine. Are on peacocks paid premium tears. Everyone's talking about corporate Chi Season three. That's on Netflix. Bridger. 10 is all the talk right now, if you haven't watched that highly recommend that, But this is the Nicolas Cage, Syria's Bob that I was telling you about earlier. Called the history of swear words where each week and the six part series Nicolas Cage digs into the anatomy. The origin of one particular swear word. So if that's you know, George Carlin's turning in his grave right now, after his seven words that you could never use on TV. This Syria's uses them all in spades. Uh, that one is also on Netflix right now. Thanks for leaving us laughing being have a good week. You have a great week. Detective Monday..
