"Amazing these four down design is my is my thing it is but it is in this case. It works for the story. So well like without those bitch about his is a soundtrack being too loud and blah very loud loud soundtrack. And i didn't see it in the theater. So i don't know wasn't like you know his last one of the ones released to. Hbo's warner brothers released hbo Released now it's on dvd. Right now you can buy it. But i really want to once again i. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been each time. I watch it. I get something new out of it and i think it's just a really good film and it's probably i will say now. It is the best film that i've seen this year. Now that doesn't put it. There's not a lot this. Come out when there's only been five. It's not not on that. Frank was the number one until this trace onto. But but but i do like about. This is their land. He does do a different take on this kind of time. Travel type thing that he plays travel. You say it's got a little bit of time. Travel a little bit of in a different way. And i'm not gonna give. I don't wanna give away too much. Don't say much. yeah but say little i. It's worth watching the highly recommend watching. And then i watch another film. That was very bizarre. And it's christmas chronicles to in fabric fabric. And i've never watched a film where address was actually the antagonist. And so that's what happens in this and it's a very different telling on this approach foreign it's now and it's not and it's very artsy feel to it and i wasn't blown away by this not my type of film but i was entertained all the way through it and had sort of a kind of creepy miss about it a very different perspective And i never got watching it. But i wasn't like it wasn't a film it. I just kind of went away and said this is something i wanna buy. Put my collection. Did you see rubber tire. Yes i love. It has a little bit of that. Feel to it The it kinda reminds me. That bed kills movie. The death bed. The bed sheets deathbed We have i knew you did. Of course you know what i watched for that. I haven't seen in ages with these..

"There's all these different houses and it's almost like the dreams of reality are inside that globe. And so i kind of took that meaning you know that each person in each family may be has their own sort of interpretation And then and i think it it works to the story The dream part threw me because now then it's like they all wake up and then we go to the like you were talking about laura them finding the ornament and him open it and then everyone is looking like. Is this going to happen again. We're all here now and what we just went through was maybe a trine and this is it and that was kind of the way i took interpretation of it. So now there's another version. They shot that scene. That's on the at least on the version. I watched and he opens the little the cramps gift and he gets this really like mind numbing. Look on his face like he remembers everything but nobody else acknowledges it and they just keep going on laughing and having fun and enjoying christmas. That's how i thought it was going to be. I didn't think anyone else was going to acknowledge any. Because i really thought it was a lesson just for him. I didn't think it was a lesson for everyone. I because it was so hyper focused on him. And he's the only one that can save the rest of them so like when they all are like holy shit that happen i was like wow okay that they all did change even david character when he sees max. He's like oh they are kid. We thought the sugar plum fairies might gotcha and like there's no like slam or put out or anything and you know he he and the kid's stuffed animal for them or whatever had the look on david keck nurse face is really sweet and like very like about if felt like. They all had discovered the gift of giving in the miracles christmas america. I'd like these secular face of christmas..

"Down just one of those ballots control with one another blank in the box. One drink and cancel like his big and it was long but it was. It was firm at times and it was made up. It's made up of two women in the actual creature was made up of to dance women and one man that did the head. There's three people working that body. Would they really interesting onset really interesting onset because when they would always do the scene of this all the guys would end up being onset and it was because the too hot girls that were the base of the body. Get out of the thing. And i guess they were just absolutely beautiful women that were doing it. So it's kind of interesting. That character becomes this whole symbol of one of the villains in the symbol of leaving the human centipede dancers squeaker. Who is your favorite creature. Pick one for me. I honestly don't i. i couldn't pick one. What was that bird thing was a fucking supposed to be an angel. Angel ornament is Weird looking angel. And what about the bag. So the bags left on the porch. And then you know. We see the bag later on. What in the world we're in there. I mean you guys boxes that all the toys came out to attack everyone. That's where they came from the box. Okay i figured that out on the second watch today. I kept trying to figure it out and i thought well maybe it was just the box where they grandmother kind of looks in the bag and all those come out or even though they don't show it's pretty deep movie It's kind of like inception with christmas. Cheer and able does have dreams within dreams within dreams so good as well. We're gonna get to the me. Because i don't know that everyone's going to be on the same page with the. I'm sure they're not. Let's get this day where we're at and talk about. Let's talk about you know. Santa always comes down the chimney and the whole play of the chimney. Did you not think that when the boy was going up the chimney a little willie wonka kind of feel to that. Augusta glueck getting sucked through the tube. Sure yeah i did actually have that. Have that feel good. You feel good that that kid bites the big one by binding gingerbread man. Yeah that's the way he should go. Yeah he's kind of you waited for gingerbread men to come out you film like imad. Budget wise was like fifteen million dollar film and then of course it gross box office. I think it was like sixty one and a half million dollars so from a financial standpoint. It was a success. Do you think this was a as big a success. Now when you watch this bum or do you think the answer and this would be a easy that i think it's a complete success. Yeah i get. It works on all levels. It's gonna be a new holiday tradition. But what about all those movies. You just got the other day. Laura oh this part of a franchise. There are like twelve twelve of them. I don't know if they're related to it. This is the only concern by itself. Standalone film cramps origins was a continuation of the story. After this came out a around like us on a lower budget kinda films To try to know kind of cash in on the.

"It's the sacrifice but Would you start really watching it over and over and over again like me. He started going like it. It had little pieces of darkness and twisted nece. Straight straight out out of the gate. Ah don't you think this just gets real dark. Don't you think this is a story about a kid. Losing faith christmas. I mean that's what this whole stories about. He's losing his faith in christmas and in people. Yeah that's why. I said it's the reverse arts inverted. It's a wonderful life. it's george bailey. On how he thinks he's a him. That's the problem and this kid is like it's all of them everyone else. Yeah i want a world without them with out. Christmas and cramps goes. I can make that happen. Yes you go and it takes the you know him confronting campus at the end to to really change. What's happened yeah as we're talking about the end okay. So what's everybody drinking know. It's the holiday season so you've got to be festive with cramps. What how about squeaker. What you got going on over there dragan. Some scotch scott fall asleep during movies afterwards. I i need a drink for that laura. What are you drinking over there. All right so i made a special cramps festive. Drink with ginger beer. Like hot super hodgin. This one has cayenne pepper. "But they did and i'm sure that's because of stages and they film stages and i think ninety five percent of this was filmed on stages. I was a kid we had mall with a live theater in it It was the fucking weird wall. I used to go there because they had a comic bookstore down in the basement. And the basement was like really darkly-lit there is like maybe a little jewelry store a comic bookstore a post office and a church. It's amazing crazy. Amazing what was done in nineteen fifty. You know who's visiting you tonight coming cramps nine on him. I'm gonna go go visit. Can't and the real meaning of podcasts. So going to the part where the grandmother starts to speak you. Did that bother you in any way or did you like the fact that then she comes out later and speaks in english. I figured she knew english. The whole time like moser sneaky like that. She wasn't going to play over cards especially to family member. She didn't like there might have been a lot of those basically everyone except for her son and her grandson. They're all assholes. I kind of liked the little twist. Where she she starts to speak in english. And then you know it's like you've been kind of law that to sleep thinking that she can only speak squeak right. That was german. It was true. I'm he starts in her little animated sequence and i thought that was really touching. I liked it a lot then. Kind of get an idea of i. Oh this is what's going even bothered me so this happened to her as a child right. Yeah yeah she was the child so how many years later sixty whatever and all this stuff starts happening. Yes she just all's asleep. She doesn't warn them about it. Doesn't tell them what's going on. She saves the story until the next day when two more kids have been well. She knows they're not gonna believe her. Anyway so why even waste her breath as with david checkered throws hissy fit. Exactly not like that. She's going to talk about the rabbit..

Collette was just amazing to me and i. I was just captivated by her in this film. I thought she didn't always good and she is watching this one in an and of course. I watched this in the theater and then had not seen it in years and i'll sudden came back and it was interesting to see this this time and go all right. No i care like her her characteristics make you really interested in her her character which is very unusual because sometimes that can be disturbing and it takes away from it but she was her mannerisms are so good at like looking off in a way and making you believe that. She's in the moment. Probably better than anybody. I've seen you know doing that. I mean she's very convincing at the haggard. Mom like i have had us of this shit could just shut up. You're not. I like all the actors in this a lot and i hated every one of i thought anyone i think of you are a stranger who had never seen any of these actors than anything in this. What you watch. "Michael Dougherty of any lab test now in sterling says consumers need to do their homework there's two categories right there's that swab which is do I have activities that's not an antibody test okay so if you don't have symptoms by large the only way having that's what is relevant is to see if you were just recently contaminate which is highly unlikely that's different that antibodies the antibodies are like you get the flu shot you build up a defense develop antibodies that showed you been exposed antibodies will fight things off and you never know exactly how effective antibodies are going to be because every human being different now there's a ton of different antibody testing you're going to have to do a little more homework basically you should ask your lab what antibodies a test for because there's more than one and you should ask them what they use for more information visit Kobe test Virginia dot com or call any lab test now at seven oh three four four four six six three three all the best podcast always free this is just one of over twenty five thousand podcasts available on the I heart radio app and now back to the part time genius podcast you're listening to part time genius and we're talking about the heyday of breakfast cereal you know when kids became the target market and nutrition kind of took a backseat to things like marshmallows and prizes and in speaking of cereal box prizes you know those were another way that Kellogg's tried to attract kids to cereal in the pre sugar days in nineteen forty three the company started putting pen back buttons inside boxes of their Pepsi Ariel so they started with a series of thirty six pens that featured World War two squadron insignia from the US military and this was before switching over to fictional heroes like comic book characters doesn't doesn't some of the earliest in box prizes we know about but if we're talking buttons my favorites are the earth called for president campaign buttons they were giving out during the Clinton bush senior campaign do you remember those second Stever family I can't say I remember running for president what what serial was that close he was one of those short lived novelty cereals across after a few months and then disappears like basically it was a sweeter version of chairs but last year with a banana and strawberry flavors but obviously we're getting ahead of ourselves with all these in the box buttons because Kellogg's actually got into the prize game long before that in the earlier days the prizes or premiums as they called in the industry we work in the box at all and as far as we know the first prize used to market sailed with his nineteen oh nine children's book it was called the funny jungle and moving pictures book and it was given to customers who bought two boxes of Kellogg's corn flakes out there participating grocery stores after a couple years of course Kellogg's decide to stop handing out the books on location instead offer them as mail an offer and within four years the company distributed two point five million copies of the files that can seem like it was obviously a hit with customers so Kellogg's kept releasing new additions and they kept going on with jungle and books all the way up until nineteen thirty seven I mean I guess that's pretty cool but I have to say I was never a fan of those Malin prizes I mean I was all about the instant gratification you know want to dig in there like it elbowed hokum class or something and just be able to like fish around and find that cellophane bag yeah then you gotta eat the cereal dust off your arm but those are definitely the days but I never really minded the mailings like I think it's partly the joy of receiving any kind of mail as a kid the fact that anyone was sending me anything was exciting enough even if I had to save up like a bunch of box tops and wait six to eight weeks to make it happen though that was mostly dying out by the time we were kids I I don't remember doing it a few times but you know that the real reason the cereal industry stepped up its game and then the prize game specifically in the nineteen fifties is is pretty interesting and it's it's thanks to this invention of what was called the screw injection molding machine and and and that's what made plastic prizes faster and cheaper to produce and this wasn't the only time the inventor of injection molding his name is James as Watson Henry would lend a hand to cereal prices so the nineteen seventies Hendry's developed the first gas assisted injection molding process and this is what made it possible to produce these finely detailed hollow plastic objects you know the ones that environmental groups love so much this could cause even more and pave the way to a golden age of these and box cereal prices that explains why so many the cool prizes I found were from the sixties and seventies and yeah F. course I'd be remiss if we didn't mention the boatswain's whistle that came inside the box of cap'n crunch in the early seventies offer talk about things we'd be remiss not mentioning about captain crunch what about genre flick crunches stinky barefooted rifle for an icon with your with the story obviously there was was this like a really high fish little whistle and the boatswain's whistle was one that was historically used on naval ships when commanders need to pass orders to the crew but couldn't be heard because the waves are whether or whatever and these days it's mostly use enable ceremonies button captain crunch's case it turned out that when you covered one of the whistles holes and blew it produced this frequency of twenty six hundred hertz which was the exact tone eighteen T. used to control its long distance lines and basically this legendary hacker John Thomas draper who is also known as captain crunch crunch crunch man he learned that you could use when the whistles to hack the phone system and get free long distance calls that they figured it's why that old hacking magazine was actually called twenty six hundred and then why Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak even tracked down the whistle and built a box that replicated the frequency to try and prank call the pope and a lot of that has a love that they pretend to be Henry Kissinger and it almost got there until this like suspicious bishop caught on lake and and then the prompt and get on those pesky bishop you know well injection molding allow for all kinds of awesome plastic toys you know some of the funniest ones I came across were actually even like metal or some of them even paper like in nineteen fifty four Wheaties gave away these manager state license plates and they were made of solid steel and you got one in each box but you could also buy them in four sets of twelve by mailing in a box top and a quarter of what being quarter and that would be the only hitch to this was that Alaska and Hawaii had not yet become state so they're actually only forty eight plates and all and so do you think people are like test when those two states got statehood a few years later and suddenly the collections are incomplete well actually post cereals did release a set of of the full fifty later on but apparently we still gets letters about the original campaign today so maybe there's still a few determine fans out there just pestering them about their missing plates or something I hope so but one of the most unique prizes I read about with this paper prize it was a detail one inch of land in the Yukon place as cereal company was giving away land by the engine it's a great idea to raise a Quaker oats sponsored a show in the fifties called sergeant Preston of the Yukon your adversaries are present in the Yukon race and this was their way of linking the show to the product and full disclosure this is a male in prize but this one was totally worth the wait so for just a single box top kids receive a deed for one square inch of the nineteen acres of you cut territory that quicker purchased and then actually purchased this from the Canadian government for a thousand dollars the promotion was this massive success and quicker she sent out more than two A..
