"It comes to these kids, I don't think they know how to win. And this is where veterans are supposed to come in and there's not a lot of veterans that are still around anymore. I think the game has changed from to answer your question about the NBA now. The game has changed. There is no traditional big men that post stuff like that anymore. Everybody wants to play on Saturday and shoot jumpers. So I think the game is now, it's about putting a point. And back when you played, you can hand check and hit check and all that. And have a hand on the hip and all that. You could still do that when I was playing, but they were trying to kind of getting away from that. I think the league is soft now. I just do. The salary cap and I was playing, it was like 45, 50, 50 million. Now it's a 100 million. You got 15 guys making whatever amount it is. And back in the day, you had like a all star making 2020 5 million a year on your team. And then everybody else kind of fit in, got in where they fit in. Now you got like two, three guys making 20 in averaging 7 points and like 8 rebels. I'm like, man, I was planning. You want to come out of retirement, Duncan? Just give me two minutes. And then I'm gonna die. And then we good. So you've talked, you talked a little bit, Kenny about, you know, you mentioned what you're doing now and how you want to be known as beyond just being a basketball player. So talk about T three productions and what you're doing now in terms of entrepreneurship. So I'm so diversified in so many areas. I'm having a basketball. I'm having basketball tournaments throughout the state of New Mexico. Memorial Day weekend, we're about to have about a 120 teams coming in here. Playing in Berlin coming from all over the United States, Arkansas, California, all over Denver, Texas. Boys and girls, not just boys. Partnering up with Coca-Cola, I have a CBD cream that wants me that has me as an ambassador. I'm building sports complexes. Casino is interested in me building a mega sports complex for them. I have a PPE company, you know the private protective equipment with COVID. My partner, my partner and the PPE company, he also has a turf company, global center, to where this is how I'm able to build these sports complex complexes all over. There's about three or four in the works right now. We're getting funding for people for these complexes and we're also going to manage them. I got turf. I got access to church. When do you sleep? I don't. You better, man. Come on, you break down. We got to work while we can, you know? We're both young like that. You have your hands in a lot and you're giving back to the community, which is kudos to you, man, because as we grow up as young people, our parents always told us, don't forever forget where you came from. And you got to always give back 'cause he said, the more you give back, the more you receive, man. Any last words? Man, let me tell you a story. Remember when we were at saint Mary's, and we was out on the blacktop, and I was guarding you. I was going to be a senior in high school. And I was reaching and you drove by me and you hit and you showed a check me and hit me in my lip. I was like, you taught me a lot. You better not ever reach again. Because your kid was going to saint Mary's, remember? Yeah. And yeah, so I just thought about that right now. That's old Michael Jordan rule. You reach I teach. I love you, my brother. And I'm a get JR on it. We gonna have a segment where we gonna talk about New Mexico. And see if we can make a change down there because it is unjust that they are not relying on us to help that program recruit or come back and be an important part of it. For the years. Cool man, anything for you already. Thank you, nice meeting you, bro and social media handle. Can you Thomas NBA for following me there? Stay on top of all my different things I have going on. Stay tuned. Take care. Okay. All right. Peace..

"Jerseys, your jerseys, not hanging. I see you got an itch that you need scratch. Real, real good. And we're gonna get to that. But he's right. Like, you know, you hear about universities that they embrace. I mean, the basketball coach should have Michael Cooper come and talk to their team. The basketball coach would have Kenny Thomas come and talk to like it's ridiculous that they don't. It's a I've done it, but why not? Hey, Kenny, would you call this player for me? Hey, coop, would you do this? Yeah. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying you gotta give us the world, but look at all the money we made for the university. And it's sad because this is, I went back in 2019 and got my degree. It took me two semesters. I shouldn't have had to pay for my school. No. I had to pay for my school. And then next thing you know, I'm leaving New Mexico. And I'm on the plane. I'm connecting somewhere. And I end up sitting in the exit row with coach painter, the head coach for Purdue. He reached out to Rick Pitino, Richard patino, and Richard didn't reach out to me. Richard and reach out to you. Pain or reached out to patino. Next thing you know, I get a call. And I'm like, okay, what's up? Well, what are we doing here? I don't care, and I don't need you in it. That's the problem. But it's just saddens my heart, man, because all we did for that school, and we could have went somewhere else. Then it's a respect factor. Yeah. Especially with you. Respect factor. I think for any form of global Marvin Johnson, you know, all the guys have been through there. Yup. And he here doing what he doing and he ain't getting no support. So you listen to some time with coop. I feel BS with today we got Kimmy Thomas on and can you write the point now where I have a segment called coops lightning round. I'm gonna give you 5 names and you tell me something as much as you want or lose, you're wrong about the names I'm gonna give you, okay? Cool. Vladi diva. Great person. Great NBA player. All around good guy. I have my restaurant across the street from the new golden one arena and he would come and say hi. Just down there. Lee Trevino. Oh, unique. Interesting. Self consumed. Energy, intimidating. I can Woods. Oh, unreal. He's not human. He's not human, but he is human. Everybody thought he wasn't coming back after that car engine. I knew he was. He only need one more win. How do you know he was coming back? Man, come on, Tiger Woods, man. Hi. All right. Then we need one more win. Everything that that man done been through. On the golf course off the golf course, resilient, just a positive energy for our community. Chris Webber, oh, I'm supposed to be doing the I'm supposed to be doing a panel with him in like two weeks in Atlanta. You probably don't remember this, but I got traded for Chris Webber from Philly to sack. And that's why I brought him back. I hung out with him, great guy, and sack, couple times, wish I could actually play with him beside him, it would have been nice playing the three of the four next man. Okay. 'cause sometimes he played 5. Just a good dude. Great having a great TV career. I just started my TV career. So Magic Johnson. Oh. Oh, greatness. Come on, coop. That's guy hook. Just all around good guy. I met with him. Back in 2000 2010, he was late to a meeting. He stayed with me minutes. He opened up his arms, we have the same business attorney. Just all around great guy with everything that he's been through and what he's overcome. It's been tremendous and I would love to be like him someday. I want a legacy. I don't want to be known as just a guy that played basketball. That's why I'm doing the stuff that I'm doing. Can you see you have the Sacramento Kings sweat top on? Yeah. And I don't know if you were playing at that time, but Shaq, when the Lakers and the kings were playing in that tough rivalry, you know, back there in the day, Shaq called them the Sacramento queen. What's your thoughts on that? I think I was actually in Houston when that happened. I think 99 or 2000, I think that was going on in Sacramento. The queens almost won that though. Almost. They had so many opportunities. The maloofs, I think after that situation, when they couldn't overcome the Lakers, I think they. Gave up. Yeah, they pulled the trigger on something they shouldn't broke that too much. Yeah. They should have kept them and I think Mike bibby was a big part of that. Playing with Mike, he was a guy that was always facilitator and found out a way to be able to get you the ball and he could score. He could light it up quick, but I think he would rather pass and be that guy, kind of like Jason Williams, right? Like that showtime. Like what y'all used to do back in the day? Do you think the kings could ever be a legitimate winning? What's keeping them from being that consistent winning program organization? Drafting Mario exactly over Luca. Oh my God. Talk man, this is my first year. It was my first year doing NBC sports California, doing the king's pre game halftime show. And that was brought up so many times because Marvin Bagley, they thought was a huge disappointment. But I don't think if I remember correctly, Luca wasn't going to play and said, for whatever reason he wasn't going to play for the kings, I think. Oh, he wasn't so he was going to be that guy to where, okay, you drive me, I'm not going to. He didn't like Vladimir. Yeah, I know. How do you even know him at that point? Right? If I go, I mean, with you doing the games for NBC, you probably, you know, you go back and look, but I just remember in that draft, it was like, he wasn't, there are a few teams he just didn't want to play for. That was those are the rumors, but still like make them. And that's such a good draft now with Luca and 8 and going head to head and what Trey young is doing. I know Bagley's putting up numbers, but Luke's an Aiden. It ain't no match up band. Yeah, they are. Winning $5 to win one game this time. Anyway, KT, your father. To answer your question about the king the kings, they haven't made the playoffs in like 17 years since I think 22,006 was a 2006 or no 2010 was the last year they made playoffs I think. We're between 2006 and 2010. I think they got some good pieces. But I think now this league when.

Yeah, so second and the all time New Mexico scoring list, career blocks list, career dogs list leads to school and career rebounding. So are you the greatest New Mexico player ever? I wouldn't say that. Come on. Bro what are you doing, man? Don't come at me like that. See this about KT. And the group he had, as he said, we've kind of laid the groundwork for them, but during his year, they really took New Mexico to a whole nother level. Thank you. Luke lonely. No. Luke was before me. Before. Yeah, I'll be 45 in July. But KT's group, man, really took the low balls and put them on the map and established a good recruiting school for a lot of kids, you know? Like everybody's looking at Notre-Dame places like that. New Mexico became a hotbed after Kenny after killing them the things that they did that year. So thank you. Yep. Once again, man. If it wasn't for you, I can't express this enough because you came instead of whole different dynamic. With you and M and I watched you play, I watched film on you when you played a Q&A. It was that I could have went anywhere, right? But it seemed like if I were to win anywhere, the cycle of players, it's always changing, right? There's always somebody new coming in. And I'm like, why would I go to this big school? I could just stay right here. 18,000 people cheering my name and why would I want to leave that? And Dave bliss actually did a pretty good job with having a couple pieces already there with Charles Smith, Clayton shields, David Gibson was like that general point guard, but he wasn't a score like that, right? Then we had Royce only, the shooter, Greg Shaun signed a couple pieces, but it was unique because I shouldn't have been playing the 5 in college. I should have been playing a three year old at four. Because once I get to the NBA, I'm playing three, four and 5. Right? I think that ability to play those positions kind of groomed you and got you ready. One thing I said about New Mexico and their coaches, Gary Colson, Dave bliss, norm ellenberger. They always had that pipeline connection to the NBA. So they can call NBA club coaches and get them to come down and watch us play, man. Yeah, man, it was nice because I was going up against Keith van horn, and you know I remember when Utah was good, Rick Jerry's and all them, right? So it was us. It was like Utah and us. And that matchup was, it was unbelievable, but they also set the path for the whack because the whack wasn't on the map like that, right? And now in some mountain west and you and them is trying to get back to some kind of culture, right? The turnover unim has been unreal. It's an unfortunate situation because I have nothing to do with the university of Mexico. They don't use me for nothing. And they never have. It's crazy. And I think understand that. I think, but I think the athletic director, Eddie Nunez, I think it's a little bit more going to be more proactive as far as helping us stop rolling your eyes. Helping us kind of recruit. I'm out here in California, man. I'm with these high school kids. All you do is call me and tell me who you want to identify. And I can go look at them. I haven't had you done it. Once. Has he done it? Have you, even if you don't play golf? Have you been invited to the golf tournament? You're Michael Cooper. I have. I have, but I don't play golf. I haven't. I haven't been invited to. No. Came on there, man. Okay. Well, you know what? We're gonna keep this basketball, keep a nice okay? You can have me on here as many times as you want, and we can create a series, whatever you want, because I'm a speak my mind and can't nobody hold me back because of my own business, right? That's what I say, man. And you know what? I'm a do that, KT. I'm gonna get and we're gonna get who we have on Ari, the other player, the other lobo. Oh, Jared gittens. Yeah, JR. Well, we all get on. We can talk about it, man. Seriously. JR really gonna tell you how he should. But anyway, what was wrong? Two things KT got your parents gave you that you hold dearly going through the pros and that still follows you to today. That's why I stayed in school, man. My mom was like, hey, you got to get closer to that degree. And I was raised in the church. So all those principles, as far as being stable, if you have, if you lose your path, you got to reflect and take a minute and think about the things that are going good in your life, right? To where it's always being positive because you think negative, that negative energy comes, and it sticks with you. And then next thing you know, you're just in this cycle. It's one of those things to where, if you give back, you will always receive more blessings. And I'm always, I've always been that guy for ten years and out of 11 years, 8 out of 11 years of me planning the NBA. I came back here to do a basketball camp, like you did coot camp. I didn't have no support, man. It was all coming out of my pocket. Yeah. And now, I'm in the process of teaming up with somebody up north. That's a huge senator. That's helping me in so many ways to where I got to go up north to Santa Fe because I can't get anything done now because that's strange. I'm going to have you on again and we're going to get more into that, man. But that's a great, as you were going through the, you know, like you said, you had a great high school career of college. Did you think you would play pro? No. I think I would play pro. I was going to New Mexico just, yeah. No? I didn't think I was going to college, man. You know what I mean? Until you get to that point to where I had an unbelievable summer before my senior year, right? Playing AAU ball. And the next thing you know, they all came. And okay, it was overwhelming, right? Get this, I got a story for you. The UConn coach, the assistant coach, when he heard I was going to New Mexico, because he tried to cut me out. I think I'm a dad was right there. My dad let him have it. He tried to cut me out and asked me what was going on. He's like, you must be getting paid. I'm like, I wish I was. You know, you and M and nothing. And back when I was in school, man, we was getting like $420 a month. Now these kids got room and board. They get like over a $1000 a month. And it's all given to them because of you, and because of me, right? And how do they not, I just can't get over it? Why do they not use us? As a tool..

"Welcome to another edition of showtime. With Michael Cooper and siphon BS with my NBA legends at NBA teammates, but today we throw on y'all a curveball because it's the playoffs. We got one of the greatest receivers and a big Kobe fan as you can see Terrell Owens that we gonna tell you from here on out tio, how you doing, sir? I'm good, man. Terrell, Terrell, Terrell. Or just go TO, I'm good. So I know you got just a little bit of time. We want thank you for being with us, but something we got a lot of young listeners here. Who will send your role models growing up? Some of my role models. Yeah. Man, it's in the basketball. They played in the basketball world. And I know a lot of people know me. And if you don't know me, I'm sure once we get through this, this show time with coupe. I'm pretty sure you guys are probably going to Google me. But man, when I grew up, I wanted to play basketball. I had a love and a passion for basketball just like pretty much all the kids across the country. And when I was growing up, you know, in the 80s, 70 80s, 90s, I wanted to be just like Michael Jordan. And I think, you know, for me, I think we've discussed it before. And you probably didn't notice either till I told you, but I never really thought I would play beyond the collegiate level as far as me making it to the NFL. So I was one of those kids growing up in the south. I'm from Alexander city, Alabama. I played a number of sports growing up. And, you know, as all kids doing the south, I mean, I played baseball. I ran track. Obviously, football, and I played basketball. So, you know, besides, you know, in the football, I mean in the sports world, Michael Jordan was my guy. He's my idol. And outside of that, it was my grandmother..

"Lakers? Yeah. He's still really good. Last I checked. He's still playing really good. He hold his own for God's plus 30 of over 35. He played like, I don't know, two Michael Cooper careers throughout the play, you know, whether it be the playoffs and the regular four. I mean, holy cow, he's played a lot of games, but if you click the playlist, if Anthony Davis can just get healthy, like honestly, just like Westbrook can pay even if you can't trade him, just like pay him to go away. Mellow the same thing. I'll still take those two if Anthony Davis kids stay healthy, I'll still take those two. As bad as it looks like those two with a bunch of role players can figure this thing out, coop. I don't believe it. I'm with you. And I think you got some young players like bunkers coming into his own, still kind of erratic and you make a mistake because he learned how to do this. I think he got Bradley Avery Bradley still up. I'm still waiting to see Kendrick nunn come and play. I think he's gonna add a different dimension to them. But again, it's all about injuries. Obviously the Lakers are bombarded with a lot of injuries and when you have one of your key people AD being injured for the game, his injuries are freakish and real unfortunate. You know, you just got to go ahead and roll with it. But I'm with you. I'm a stay with the Lakers. I don't like what I see, but I'm accepting of it because that's the nature of this game. We went through it after the 80s, we went through a little slide, Nick van axel, and Jones, that period, then we brought in Shaq and Kobe and they blew us out of the water and then Shaq leaves and then we kind of go through it. And that's where we are right now. It's kind of finding our way through this because we brought in LeBron and AD. They get the championship done. So I'm.

"What did you think about the Lakers Celtic rivalry? I thought that I was lucky. Were you a Laker fan? Even though you hear in LA and what you're saying, I used to sneak in the games back in the day when Wilt Chamberlain and try to see Jerry West and Gail goodrich happy Harrison, you know, Michael Cooper, Byron and Scott. I mean, I'm going home with the name of Lisa people, man. I couldn't stand Boston. I couldn't buy a friend. Come on, tell us about it. We got a lot of people out here that hate the Celtics. And I gotta get different too. Because I take it too personal, but you tell them you don't hate them for the green. Oh man, the green, I didn't like it. I mean, I was green and Inglewood, and I couldn't do that. I couldn't wait for that whole brain to move on, but the Celtic naan, man, nobody, no, I was all about showtime. You know, it's all about the Laker girls. It's all about the forum club. You know, going to I used to welcome to be trying to sneak into the foreign club when I was 18. There was rocking, man. There was a friend. Listen, you better be glad you didn't get in there 'cause 18 years been ruined. The foreign club have many good men. You can't sneak in there. You better be careful what you see, man, 'cause that hurts your visual perspective of things for a long time. Yeah, that's why we're blind right now. I was in there about two or three times. So I'm still getting my visual back, but man, it was a great time seeing y'all man play. You know I go back to a player that played for him, sent to a Cooper, and when we said national championship teams, I told you got to emulate Michael Cooper. I said because here's a guy who's created his own success story in his own role. You know, everybody, I mean, Pat Riley had 12 eagles. He had to deal with every day at y'all, man. That was unreal. But Boston, nah, I could not. I didn't buy a ticket for that, man. Going to the parking lot with the janitor to come see that game. If that's the case. You know what, you say, yes, a Cooper play like Michael Cooper. Michael good score, sent in Cooper one of the greatest scores in the WNBA. He's gonna pick somebody else. We talk about you couldn't score..

"I think the WNBA can be something new that people try that still love basketball. You see the way the NBA guys are showing up to WNBA games, everybody's following it on social media. You know, we wanted to be great and bigger than what it is, but we just have to do the work and have the confidence and belief that, you know, it'll get to the place where we want to go. It requires their patients, though, that we saw each other about 6 months ago before the season started. And you told me like, you know, fish you're gonna have to really be patient this year as you guys go through this transition. And the injuries like forced more patience than I needed to have, but it was a really profound lesson for me to really understand how much patience is required in order to build something great. And we're still excited about where we're going. But we got to have a healthy team. Yeah, and players that really want to be great. You come to LA and you play for teams that wear purple and gold. There's no tiptoeing around exactly the best in the world. And those are the type of players we have to bring in. Yeah, she knows a player last couple of questions as a player we had for us in my era was the Boston seltzers. We hate it them. For you guys it was check on the Sacramento queens, whoever. And you guys had the Celtics too. And as I coached in the WNBA for the sparks with us, it was the comets. Who is your new rivalry? Now, that team that you want to hate. I feel like it's the Minnesota links. You know, I think Cheryl is yeah. They had a sustained level of greatness and, you know, four championships and I think it was 11, 13, 15, 17. And so, you know, they walk into building with their confidence. Like, you know, we're great. We're special. You know, she teaches her teams to play physical. They hurt us. Let me tell you. Let me catch you off for a second remind me. When you walked into the game and I remember when I was in Atlanta, I walked again. Isn't that a demoralizing feeling to know that I don't care how good you coach him and ready to play the truth? Go get your ass kicked..

"Consistency, you know, I only played for him for one year. But he was so consistent in the way he coached his players, his teams, the way he communicated, you know, it was different in 2006 to see a coach managed the 12th guy the same way as the 5th guy, the same way as the first guy. And that was, you know, that was kind of out of date by 2006. But he was still consistent in the way approached it. And I always thought that that was as fair as I had ever seen a coach handle and manage his team and guy wrestler so. Last one is in your man of faith this week know that you remind me so much of AC green. John the Baptist. Well, I may remind you of AC green, but I am nowhere near, you know, cut from the cloth that AC was and is. I learned a great deal from AC when you talk about consistency, et cetera. I mean, John the Baptist for me and my family, I think that, you know, sacrifice is a word that we, you know, we throw it around, but I'm not sure we always understand what it really fully means. And he always to me representing someone that was willing to give of himself in a way that other people just couldn't figure out a way to give that much, and we don't talk about him as often when we think about stories and, you know, biblical examples and when we quote scriptures, et cetera, but, you know, growing up the way that I did and the way my mom raised us and taught us, like, his name will always be revered. And something that, you know, we're trying to pass on to our kids as well. I mean, two of our kids go to, you know, faith based schools and they have Bible class..

I <Speech_Male> mean, he was so long. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Cool. <Speech_Male> Am I lying? <Speech_Male> I mean, <Speech_Male> if you make him <Speech_Male> a 1417 <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> foot on out, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> he can <Speech_Male> have it's a hidden <Speech_Male> mist. And <Speech_Male> if he ever get to <Speech_Male> the point where he develops <Speech_Male> that and can make that <Speech_Male> on a consistent <SpeakerChange> basis <Speech_Male> along with free throws, <Speech_Male> council <Speech_Male> Christmas, <SpeakerChange> you can't <Speech_Male> stop it. You can't guard <Speech_Male> him. You know, so <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I'm still a fan, <Speech_Male> but you know, <Speech_Male> it's <Speech_Male> more really towards <Speech_Male> the playoffs and when I really <Speech_Male> started to watch and pick <Speech_Male> it up because I still think <Speech_Male> a lot of these guys and a <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> lot of these teams, <Speech_Male> you know, you can turn it <Speech_Male> in on you could turn the <Speech_Male> TV on in the fourth <Speech_Male> quarter with like 6 minutes <Speech_Male> left and you can race see <Speech_Male> what's happening in the game and <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> you don't really need to <Silence> watch the first <SpeakerChange> three quarters. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> There you have <Speech_Male> it from Byron <Speech_Male> Scott's lifts <Speech_Male> to showtime <Speech_Male> with coops ears. <Speech_Male> All the <Speech_Male> way, baby. <Speech_Male> Thank you so much, sir. <Speech_Male> I mean, you <SpeakerChange> want to pump <Silence> your podcast is off <Silence> the dribble. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Yeah, <Speech_Male> podcast all <Speech_Male> the dribble <Speech_Male> with Byron Scott <Speech_Male> is launching <Speech_Male> September 29th. <Speech_Male> I got some great <Speech_Male> guests and they won't be in <Speech_Male> my <Speech_Male> dark chocolate <Speech_Male> free. <Speech_Male> Michael Cooper, <Speech_Male> my brother from the <Speech_Male> mother. <Speech_Male> I got my <Speech_Male> man Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. <Speech_Male> I got <Speech_Male> James birdie <Speech_Male> AC green, Kurt <Speech_Male> rampant. <Speech_Male> And then that's <Speech_Male> just my showtime <Speech_Male> boys. "The way going right. Now go inside michael thompson to sign one thing bryant there too old. Is that what you're getting at age ain't nothing but a number brother right aid so what i would tell you is for people out there that see this stuff and say well wow deandre jordan. Fourteenth season just thinking. This way. the lakers are not a team built for the next ten years. They're a team building for the next ten months. They're going there if this we re poker game the lakers in the nets are pushing all their chips into the middle and go in fort bryant. And it's going to be really fun to be able to watch this play out live every night. I can't wait. And what about my kukupa in the hall of fame. Well i'll tell you that that's going to happen. He was a finalist this year. Normally there is a progression. You go through like you become a finalist and then you may not get in the first time you become a finalist. I predict michael. Cooper will be in the hall of fame within three years. He was the best defensive player on nine different finals. Teams the lakers. Don't win magic's five. Titles without micra. Cooper and anybody who played on the showtime lakers will tell you that if you ask magic if you ask michael if you ask pat riley if you ask kareem they will tell you that. The guy who guarded. Larry bird the guy who often had to try and stop isaiah. Thomas or joji mars or market wire was michael cooper and you don't win those five titles with adams and he'll get there. Thanks for the call man. Great to hear from you. By the way got another email you can always email the show venice. G mail dot com. This one. the subject line is w- w t.f. john rights. I think. "I thought they needed perimeter defense. You know, they have this. They had this thing about thinking that Caruso was going to be that guy. Caruso was a good defender, but he was in my mind a better team defender than an individual defender. He wasn't a Michael Cooper, who was like that tile that just was all over the place. You know, while we're speaking to Michael Cooper, before we get going here, and you cut me off, I want to say it publicly again that you go down in my book as one of the greatest if not the greatest defensive player to ever play because you played defense on four or 5 different positions. And people that don't play don't know how hard that is, you know, you can lock up one guy, you know, if it's a point guard, yeah, I can get, but now you go over to that big shooting guard or that small forward or back in the day when you played there were guys called power force today. There's no power forwards. Everybody say, come on, senators are playing at 6 AD. There's no real physicality to the game, so they don't try to take advantage of the size differential that they tried to do with you. So and I think if you don't believe me, believe Larry Burton said that you were the toughest kid you were toughest guy he had to go against. Thank you, Steve. That's nice words from you. Just stand on that track for a minute about the best defensive players. Who would you consider a good two? Give me two names of good defensive players in today's game. Wow. Wow. I'm gonna throw one at you and I really like this young man. Draymond green, what do you think of him? Well, yeah, I definitely think draymond is one of those, because that's his forte aside from being a facilitator. His forehead is defending. And he defends again. It doesn't matter. That's why when they're healthy, defensively, they can get it done, because they play a 5 man statement they can switch every position because draymond, you don't have to worry about him switching out on pick and rolls against that small guard to drink one of them out there and guard them. So, yeah, he's one of those that can do that. But there are a lot of two way players out there that I like, you know, be prior to the injury to his knee. This season, again, you've got it Kawhi Leonardo. I thought, was really a defender. I remember quiet San Diego state when he was in college. I thought he's going to be an all defensive team in the NBA for ten consecutive years . Never envisioned that he would develop into the offensive player that he has developed into. So he's one of those good two bird plays, but there are a number of players in the NBA that believe it or not can play some defense. So I'm gonna say it right here to be our last question for you. And I'm putting myself out there now. And again, I think it's gonna be on what coach Vogel do as far as pulling that chemistry and keeping that team together. And again, the biggest point you made if they're healthy, the Lakers are going to win the championship this year. Can I get you on my fan wagon? Way to go out on that limb. I like it when guys go out on that little early. Don't wait until fourth game of the finals and the Lakers are up three to three to one. Exactly. And then say they're going to go out there early..

"I think the way the game has been played in little ways. Referees call the game. You're not allowed sexually body for now. These guys really show out One person. I got a big stand for with jason tatum in boston this year. That kid came into his own. Obviously honest able to do the things he did but you gotta remember teams championship. And i think that's the reason why milwaukee was so successful but you gotta look at phoenix but again for may and i'm all pro laker. Because that's the lakers legacy win a championship every year. Where they have a talented or not. But they're going to acquire that talent and as long as you got probably one of the best players in this game today. Even though he's older veteran lebron james. You still have a chance to win. You would impact in your mind. We're talking to michael cooper by the way back to your mind. Is the short turnaround half from last season two. This season affected the players a lot. I mean the shortest amount of time to finish the season and then get back into a season so That played a break habits. He's a lot of players. Got into because a lot of basketball. I like the fact that they cut it down to ten game. But i do. They're going back to the schedule but as long as they have that quote unquote low management. Hey things you know you. Can you can rest their star players key players every now and there but again it's about basketball and order to play eighty two game schedule and then picked that into the playoffs and championship. Your plan close to a hundred games. You have to be in shape and these players now. When you've got your off time you can't be all cruising. And i mean you can take a week to do that but you gotta get yourself back in shape as fast as you pass because one thing that made us except was lakers. In the eighties it pat riley colleges. Don't you don't come to training camp to get in shape. You come to training camp for get ready for the season and we were always in shape. And i think everybody's taking heath that because players are doing a better job of getting their bodies prepared especially in a short amount of time that they had to turn from last season fifties. And now you've got the stephen coming up so with that. I mean what's where's the balance. I'm i'm thinking about these olympians just finished a long season now. They're going to have another quick turnaround but they go play in the olympics. It's keeping them in shaper. It's getting them in shape but it's also wearing their bodies down like where as a former player. Where would you put the line between rest and rust. Well i think. Brian's if that on the head he turns down the olympic but again our great when our best player turned down. You get what we're getting now. You get defeated by france which is a mediocre team to me although they have some good player but those are the those are the pluses and minuses. That comes with being in the nba. You know you've got to stand up for your country And you gotta play basketball and you know again gold medal or something that not everybody gets off can you. Do i think the pink did that and set the example for all of us. But you know you gotta get some players and maybe you don't take your top. Maybe take some of the underclassmen in the nba and let them go over and play because those guys that haven't played big minutes drop the course of a season and they got the wear and tear on their body that they can get out there and play hearts and then get back into training kept goes to the youth. I think it's going to lead into the next olympics like that when you look at the nba particularly this year with jaanus and the bucks won the championship. There are people that wanna make apologies for the fact that they want championship in a year. Where brooklyn was healthy. You know so much about being a champion and trying to repeat. What advice would you give milwaukee going into next year. It ready because targeted foley on you. You know this year you had a chance to blended in with the group and you came out and you emerged as a top team. Well now that's over with now. You are the champions. You're gonna have eighty two playoff type of games and you'll have to come ready for it. So that's what i would tell them but again. I think you know milwaukee did an extremely good job throughout the course of the season. That show you that one guy can pick a big bowl step forward and bring his teammates behind him and what he did. Now you have brooklyn with hurts but still going to be tough for brooklyn because milwaukee plays pretty good defense throughout the course of a playoff series and. I thought they did that against them. But i would like to have seen them play with hard and kyrie and durant clang full steam. Do you guys obviously didn't need to check out the big three before we get out of here. I mean when you're working with the big three you're working with a lot of guys that played in the league. What's the biggest trick on. Getting them in ingrained sort of into three on three basketball for a bunch of people that have played in the nba. And had that life quote coaches myself. Dr j. Charles globally rick mahorn. That's the name of food. Great rich dairy. What you gotta do is just about getting these guys to feel good about themselves and getting them to play just a little bit of team basketball because the big three is about one on one. It's about showing who's got the best one talent right now. Triplets and joe johnson team. This coach by lisa leslie and if you have not been to a three on three game awash but you gotta watch it. It's actually more fun to come to the game case. This we are moving from las. Vegas was moving to dallas and then the playoffs will be done and atlantis in the paradise. Island and the grandpa's. I and we're working hard to get there so but again. There's some great basketball not by former players by great players. That are playing now. So johnson mario. Jason richardson guys. That were really really good in the nba but still play a high level or the three. It's a it's a great experience to check out. Make sure you go out like you said Check it out live. I think you guys do a really nice job of bringing in entertainment to the entire way that you present the game. Thank you so much for the time. 'cause really appreciate your expertise pleasure and hopefully we'll see you out there from game boom. Oh heck yeah you know. I'm gonna be out there man. I appreciate it. it's great stuff. Okay i give in some great for me though. Just make sure just hit them. You button on ryan hollins every once in a while. Tell them that. Tell them i said. Hey that's a. I'll be sure to to let them know i'm arming. We thank you. So much. Michael collins joining us michael cooper junior so ryan holland's on the team Fun stuff from him and again. The big three does a really nice job. If you've never checked it out on the way that they present the entertainment of game. I'm a big fan. You should go check it out. If you're anywhere close speaking of things to check out we all we were going to be. Checking out dominance from. Usa's men's basketball team over the course of the weekend. We believed everything would suddenly be right. It wasn't so.

"Of those stories? He had a two pound his head. But Jerry said, he married a Flynn love, Jerry. Yeah. Stalking. The story had to hold church in stitches, because as Jerry told a story, he said that there was a game and he noticed that Flynn had more hair than he had had before. Yeah, one day. And in the heat of the action now, they own a 33 game winning streak that has never been broken. And he said, all of a sudden, flame was running down on the floor. And he had one hand on the ball and one hand on his head tried to keep it too failed. He was there when they were definitely close friends. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, didn't see nothing wrong with having a good friend, like Flynn Robinson. Yeah. So over the years and I do mean over the years because we're talking now over 50 years. Since the Lakers came to Los Angeles, and you seen the evolution of the city and the team, what were some of your personal interactions over the years with Laker players and personnel? Me and Magic Johnson became very best Friends in 1979 when he came to the Lakers. I was at Motown and I was one of the big shots at Motown them days, so we got together real soon, very good. They asked me to I know Magic Johnson, of course, I know him. I knew him already. Went out a couple nights when he first got here. So we became very good friends. We would go by the Jackson 5 house. We would go by the Marvin Gaye's house. We would hang out. Me and Isaiah and magic Asia Thomas and magic and Marco and all them guys that came to town every year with magic's Friends. We got together all the time. And imagine it was my best friend from the Lakers for sure. Who were some of the other storming on? Lesbian and his brother snake would be together all the time. What'd you call it? Snake. What it called a snake? I don't know, I guess it was slip sneaky. But there was a good old days. Now, you ask me something earlier about the clippers. Robin Harris was the funniest comedian in the city at that time. 45 years ago. He said clippers would never amount to nothing. He said he said, he said that he can go down there right now. And sit on the bench and put a uniform on and they'll put them in the game. And he laughed so hard about the clippers. Then he died. A Robin died a long time ago. But before you know this is the guy he's baby kids. We don't die we multiply. He told me that it clippers will never, ever do nothing. And he's right. They get close, but they never do it. They get close. But now they got Jerry. To me, they got a shot. Now, for the first time. I don't know why they lost these games this year. He don't know, don't nobody know. To me, I'd go get Sam cassell as the head coach. Yeah, because I want somebody hungry to stay on the hunger person stay on your ass. A person already got it going on. Check it out. Check life out. The person who wants to make it happen, he not going for that every day you can do this, you can do that. No. My job is to sell job be online. He going hard ain't nobody get no breaks on nothing. We're going to practice. We don't do this. We're going to be on time. We're going to be there.

"Get a chance to really know Kobe good thing. Again, like I said, anytime you come through the Laker organization and you're clear for longer than 5 years, you're part of the fraternity. And he's like, you know, it's a brother that we thoroughly sorely missed. But the things that he did, he and Shaq did, man, set the Lakers on the path to learn great things themselves. We were the first Laker team to repeat. They were the first Laker team to three P and you know what, that's a fix that will never be big challenge or equal. Unless somebody comes to win four in a row and LeBron James looks like he can do that with this Laker team.
