Hood Canal Bridge back open to vehicular traffic up in Kitsap County. So, that's good news. I -5 northbound. Some heavy traffic into downtown Seattle from the Alboro off -ramp off on and up towards 520. Southbound I -5 stacked up pretty solid out of Northgate all the way into downtown Seattle. Obviously Friday's busy for the Washington State Ferries. The biggest delay right now is the Fauntleroy Fauntleroy, Southworth, Bashan, Iowa ferry that's running 40 minutes delayed. Anacortes San Juan is running about 15 minutes delayed right now as well. Over on 405 southbound, delays coming down from Bellevue off and on past Northbound 405. Little slowing headed up through Renton. Then again, pretty crowded. Move it up through the Totem Lake stretch as you head towards Interstate 5. "Rates every year. Northwest News Time 234. Every 10 minutes on the force from the High Performance Homes Here's Michael Convery. A lot of heavy traffic over on the east side particularly southbound 405 now we're jammed right out of downtown Bellevue. Most of the way down into Renton past the Valley Freeway. We're up to 34 minutes to get from Bellevue to Tukwila. Going the other way northbound 405 is slow to move it up to the Renton stretch past 24th and then farther up the line some delays north of 520 as you head through Kirkland. 520 westbound some delays now again moving through Bellevue then again as you head into the Montlake area headed up towards Interstate 5. Southbound I -5 we still have that slowing through Linwood then again off and on as you head from the University District up across the Ship Canal Bridge into downtown. Not too bad at least early on here for the drive to Everett on I -5 north. There's some slowing again up past Lake City Way a little more moderate slowing through the Shoreline stretch, but the total traffic time is just 27 minutes to get from Seattle to Everett on I -5 north. Grace guys overhead here in downtown Seattle, it's 46°. Northwest news time 1236. In snohomish county, state troopers are investigating a deadly crash that happens Sunday morning on state route 99. Right near a 156th street, southwest. Police say a car going south crossed over into the northbound lanes. The driver slammed into a pole and a concrete barrier and died at the scene, all of the northbound lanes had to be closed temporarily. Its construction season, which means some closures starting today on I 90 and the escrow area or already hearing from Michael convery during our traffic reports the kind of impact it's having. So what are they doing? We were here just a few months ago. Telling you about road work along I 90 and warning you about big backups, that was September, cruiser back to do similar emergency work, so lanes are going to be reduced to one lane for 56 hours westbound on I 90 between Preston and issaquah. We're going to see the same lane restrictions next week as well. And then two more larger areas west of Preston are going to be reduced in two weeks in May. What happens with the backups really depends on what people choose to do. We encourage people to use alternative routes. And this is just the beginning. There are four other lane restriction planned dates that are coming up. Those projects are going to be not only in King County, but also in skagit and snohomish counties as well. The city of Michael thiel won't have the Chamber of Commerce and historical society swap their locations after all, northwestern news radio's Jeff pojo explains why. "Police officers involved in the death of Jalen walker. Walker is the 25 year old black man who died from 46 gunshot wounds after an altercation with police during a traffic stop in 2022. The incident sparked riots in Akron last summer and businesses in downtown Akron are now boarding up their windows in preparation for the results. So it's a backup of about two miles as you approach the pressed an area on I 90 westbound. We had an earlier problem on highway 16 down in gig harbor near Wallachia. That's been cleared out of the way, all lanes are moving again, looking a lot better through that stretch. I 5 northbound just bunched up a little bit right into downtown as you move up towards a convention center, crash over north of Fremont on third avenue and northwest market, maybe causing a bit of delay just to the west of the Woodland park zoo. Again, a highway 16 westbound out of gig harbor, again all traffic being diverted off the freeway there at the three O two. Wash dot when they put this incident out a little while ago, they tapped it out as a crash. We've now learned that from WSP, it was not a crash. They were chasing a person in a stolen vehicle, that person stopped on highway 16 and got out on foot. So there is a search underway. Again, in the pretty area for this suspect involved with a stolen vehicle, that's why highway 16 is shut down at all traffic is being diverted off onto three O two. Again, west of gig harbor. I 5 southbound some slowing up in north Seattle as yet through northgate. Then again, off and on as you head across the ship canal bridge into downtown, four O 5 south bound delays out of Bellevue. I 90 remains closed, again, east of snow quality pass. So call me pass over in the eastern area because of that, the fidelity crash from earlier. We have received information from wash dot that the reopening of I 90 is on the horizon. So again, a lot of patients needed and it's going to just take a little bit more, I think, hopefully sometime very soon. We may be able to get I 90 eastbound reopen in the eastern area. I 5 northbound some delays hit it, headed into downtown, from just north of the albro off ramp, off and on up towards the convention center had an earlier accident there that has been out of the way for a while up an average still have the ramp from highway two westbound to high 5 north, completely shut down. That's due to a rolled over semi truck on that ramp. So if you're trying to go from highway to up north of evert on I 5, you'll have to head to the southbound ramp and then make the turnaround and head back up north that way. That'll be a lengthy detour, but it will save you some time. I four O 5 southbound good news earlier wreck at a 112 completely out of the way now. Nothing left. So we're still backed up back up prior to the factoria area on I four O 5 southbound, but at least in front of the line, all lanes are moving and nothing left to look at anymore. Still obviously the left lane getting by down in Lacey, I 5 southbound with the overturned tanker truck from now over 8 hours ago. No official ETA from anyone about when they may be able to reopen more lanes, but the scuttlebutt is that it could last into the evening commute before we can get all lanes moving again. Again, what they're doing is they're offloading all of the fuel that was in that tanker onto into another tanker that's on the scene, once they have that complete, which it doesn't look like that's going to happen in time soon. They've also got to get the tanker back onto its wheels and tow it out of the way as well. So again, the left lane is the only one getting by. We're backed up solid ten miles back into DuPont on I 5 southbound. I four O 5 south delays coming down past I 90 towards factoria a little more slowing into the new castle area. Still have an accident off to the right shoulder at a 112 all lanes are getting by there. Again, the valley freeway slowing up now southbound, moving down through auburn, past Stewart road towards 24th, road work over incarnation on highway two O three, they have flaggers out, alternating traffic through the closure of their construction site there, one direction at a time, so it is causing force from delays. At 5 southpaw still saves situation only the left lane getting by down in Lacey just prior to Martin way again with the overturned tanker truck from earlier this morning. We're backed up by all solid. Again, it's about ten miles all the way back into the DuPont area and that is gridlocked that ten mile stretch on I 5 southbound. If you are trying to get into Olympia or anywhere south of that point and you're just leaving a Seattle or Tacoma. I think probably the better bet is to hop off the freeway and Lakewood, use highway 5 12 overdue SR 7 and then use SR 7 south at a hook and eventually to hire 5 O 7 and 5 O 7 takes you down into the city of Roy and then from Roy, you take 5 O 7 south down into Yale and then from Yale and you take 5 ten westbound back towards I 5 and 5 ten it will eventually wind up in the lacy area, why did you go past saint Martins university onto college street and you can rejoin I 5 at that point and get right around the crash. I four O 5 south bow were still pretty crowded again moving from I 90 off and on down into the new castle area earlier at a 112 still off on the right shoulder all aims at driving traveling by, but kind of a distraction there on the right. So it's a big mess to try to get cleared up only the left lane is getting by and we're backed up all the way into the DuPont area. That's about 9 to ten miles and to travel time is about a 118 minutes. So that's two hours to get from DuPont down to lacy on I 5 southbound and that will continue at least for the next couple of hours. In fact, odot warning that it could actually extend into the evening commute before they can get all lanes open on I 5 south bay. We'll keep you posted this afternoon.
