Embiid leads 76ers over Nets in Harden's return to Brooklyn

"In a game that literally came down to the last second and was the sixers editing the nets on the road by the final score of one O one to 98. It appeared that the nets Spencer did what he tied the game with a half court three point shot at the buzzer to send it to overtime, but the call was overturned in Philly escape with the win. 6 year Senate Joel embiid had a big night with 37 points and 13 rebounds. James Harden at a 29 points for the sixers who won their second game in as many nights. "Team, and I've confirmed this. I know of one team that offered them four first round picks for Mickey elbert. For a guy who's never made the All-Star Game. And is a good, one of the better defenders doesn't miss games. No, no way. I know of at least three first round picks. I think the fourth 1 may have had some protections or something, but I'm pretty sure that's a thing. And so that's your blue chip guy. But for me, it's like, would you rather have the picks or Michael bridges? And I think, first of all, as you mentioned before, like Houston owns all those picks, right? 24, 26, pick swaps, or 23, 25, 27. There's no incentive to bottom out here. There is none to go in trade bridges and Johnson and basically just have a skeleton crew and get the top three pick year after year. There is no incentive. Like eventually, you're going to have to put a baseline of guys that compete can win you 43, 44 games here. But the bridge is component added another layer here because Brooklyn could have eventually walked out of the week the week of trade deadline week when what 9 unprotected first? I mean, that's amazing. You know what? Mckell bridge is awesome. He's on an awesome contract. He's an awesome guy, nets fans are going to love him. I get just being like, you know what? We just did a lot of stuff. So a lot of stuff. Let's just like have some good players. The NFL playoffs are here and the easiest way to get into the action is with FanDuel.

"So I bring it up because as I look at the league and especially the Western Conference, the two LA teams aren't going to miss the playoffs again. Lakers and clippers, Denver, if they're healthy, they're going to be really good. There'll be some drop off, like, say, Utah, for example, won't be as good. But New Orleans is a young up and coming team with Zion Williams from the roster. Memphis, obviously, has the unfortunate injury to Jaron Jackson junior to start the year, but they're young and talented. So I bring it up because those windows are so fleeting. And when you have a 37 year old point guard going on 38 and Chris Paul, who's one of the all time greats and is defied the odds and the aging curve and all that to a historic level, how long can he keep doing that? How long can he be that guy and when Chris Paul is no longer that guy is a team led by Devin Booker and Michael bridges without Chris without theoretically anyways Deandre ayton? Are they good enough to win a championship? I hope so because I love those guys and I'm biased. They're like my sons, but I probably have my doubts about whether they are or not. So that's the tough part. I think whenever you have a chance to compete for championships, you have to take advantage of it. And then also try to keep that window open as long as you can. And then so for me, full bias disclosed with Booker's age and bridges age and 8 and age, I thought and hoped they'd have a longer runway than it seems like they will, but maybe the sun surprises us and match the offer sheet and they are together for the next four or 5 years, but we shall see. Yeah, and if they don't, they still have the fact of not having a center, basically. Biz Mac biombo is not starting to play in 38 minutes a night, I don't think. And JaVale McGee is already going to Dallas. So what do they have left? What are their options in mid July, having waited this long to for this thing to resolve itself? So I don't know, it feels to me like in the moment and again, they've made a lot of good moves the last couple of years. They may have some other plan that we are not privy to and it may manifest in the next couple of days. But as of right now, it looks like they have kind of screwed themselves. All right, moving on to a couple other couple of the teams in situations before I let you go. I was going to ask you, as I was typing up some notes about 24 to 27 hours ago, the jazz having traded Rudy Gobert, having ripped off the band aid having decided this is not going any further than it's gone. It's time to try something new. They're still sitting there with Donovan Mitchell putting out the kind of the messaging out there. They're like, oh, no, no, they're ready to hold on to Donovan Mitchell. I was always skeptical of that and then lo and behold, sometime yesterday afternoon report coming from the athletic that or from, I think, from ESPN. The first report was ESPN saying that there's a possibility or they're not deflecting or they're not turning away offers or whatever. And then it became the athletic saying they're engaged directly with the Knicks, the jazz. Knowing that there's always a fair amount of smoke before we see fire in this league and things can change very quickly. It might change by the time I hit stop on this recorder even.

"Miles Turner pair him with the ambo and sign a Hassan Whiteside or something and I think then you've come out of this better than just watching Deandre aid and walk away for nothing. Here's the thing. Last summer, you and I both. Both of us, we're talking about how surprised we were that the sons weren't just getting a deal done with Aiden, right? They did it with Michael bridges, and they just couldn't come to an agreement with Deandre. Right now, had they done that deal, there would be some kind of a trade market for Aiden if they decided after this year, you know what? We just don't think he's worth this contract. Let's see what we can get for him. Let's see what we can move him. Now they're staring down potentially losing him for nothing. Had they just done and we weren't the only ones saying this, but a lot of people across the NBA were saying, why don't they just get this thing done? They would be sitting in a much better position now, had they just done that instead they decided to try to play hardball and it could come back to haunt them here. Yeah, absolutely. Let's do prediction time. What do you think happens? I think I think ultimately we land on a sign and trade. It makes too much sense for the sons. I think they're in a position of weakness at this point. So I think we ultimately wind up with the sign and trade that gets the sun's something. I think it makes sense. That's what I'm hoping for. Happens. I'm gonna say this one's just match, and they keep eating, and then this. But by the trade deadline, they tease somewhere else. By the trade deadline, so they match it and then they trade them away. Yeah, magic, keep them for a few months, then they find a place where he'll be happy and off he goes.

"He's not an 8 month year guy anymore. But I think that's the trade. And then can I present a zag that I think sitting there for somebody? Please. Deandre ayton Ben Simmons and Michael bridges is a frontline. It's a pretty good defensive team. Great defense. You keep Kyrie, you keep Seth curry. You have Harris, Royce O'Neal coming off the bench. They inexplicably traded for him today, but I was like, oh, that's not the worst team in the world. It's not like that's rock bottom. That's like probably like a 5 or a 6 seat at worst. And would be really hard to, I don't know, really hard to score against at least. So I don't know. I don't feel like Brooklyn. I don't feel like this is a disaster for them because best case there, they just keep KD. Worst case there. I do think they'll get somebody for them, right? It's not like they're giving them away. No. They're going to get somebody very good. It's just, are they going to be very good in a way that two years from now, it still sustaining your franchise? And carrying you upward, right? Versus just kind of like the team you described, I think that could be a playoff team that could be certainly a play in or better team. But if Kyrie leaves, what happens? Where does your shot creation come from? How are you regenerating that star power that shot creation? Where is that coming from? Because that's kind of the problem with a Mikhail bridges Deandre ayton centric package, right? Is you're not getting you're not getting star type shot creators unless 8 and becomes that unless Miguel bridge is really flexes out and becomes a much more high usage pick and.

"And it's not like Rick Barnes has never had a fabulous freshman. Just hadn't had one at Tennessee. He coached Kevin Durant at Texas. And Julian Phillips, if you watched the interview on CBS board headquarters, he said, you know, Rick Barnes has a history of coaching great wings and like Kevin Durant is the most obvious example of that. And if you don't think Kevin Durant's steel, the Kevin Durant story still helps Rick Barnes when it comes to recruiting, you're crazy. That comes up all the time. I'm not saying it's a determining factor, but it's a thing that's brought up all the time. There is no getting around the fact that Rick has had a lot of good teams throughout his career, falls short in the NCAA tournament. You can go look it up. It's easy to identify. And that is something that is becoming even with Tennessee defense, part of his story. And I think even Rick would tell you, they need to be better in March. You know, he's had number one teams in top ten teams and top 20 teams, and SEC champions. But he's reached this place where Tennessee fans are like, some, not all. Are like, okay, this is great. This is great. But let's do it in the tournament. We're not doing enough in the tournament. You know, perhaps this will be the type of team that can break through for him, but if you, you know, if you're trying to identify where frustration comes from Tennessee fans, it's rooted in that. They're happy with the way recruiting is going. They seem happy with the way the regular seasons are going. But the postseason success hasn't quite matched the other stuff. Yet, and eventually, you know, that stuff's got to all mesh together, the stuff that happens in November, December, January, February needs to translate to what you're trying to accomplish in March. But undeniably, he has set himself up once again to have a team that's good enough to not only advance in the bracket, but compete for a final four. Adam finkelstein is obviously the director of scouting 24/7 sports. Listen, we know Julian Phillips, but we don't have to lie. We haven't scouted him 50 times. We haven't seen him as much as the recruiting analysts have. So I did want to share what Adam has written about Julian Phillips from an evaluation perspective. Here's what he wrote. While both credible evaluators agree that Julian Phillips is one of the top prospects in the class of 2022 within this range. It is appropriate that there is a fairly diverse set of opinions. It all depends on your criteria because it's potential still exceeds its production. However, that potential is vast. He has positional size skill athleticism and extreme fluidity. He shoots a softball and has all the physical tools necessary to be a competent defender, but he's not close to a finished product. There are still too many games that in without him making his mark in a manner consistent with his abilities. Again, that's from Adam finkelstein, director scouting 24/7 sports Travis branham also with 24/7 sports was on CBS sports headquarters after the announcement. And when Ginny Dale asked him for some player cops at the NBA level, he brought up Trey Murphy. He brought up Michael bridges. In other words, long sort of combo forwards who can comfortably shoot from the perimeter. To be clear, he wasn't predicting he's going to be Trey Murphy or Mikel bridges, just if you're looking for. If you're a Tennessee fan unfamiliar and you're looking for what could theoretically this guy look like, you know, what you're hoping for is a Trey Murphy type player or a Mikhail bridges top player. But it's another big recruiting day for the SEC. Which has had a lot of big recruiting days. Over the past year. Right now, the SEC, if you look at the recruiting rankings class of 2022, Arkansas's second Alabama's third Kentucky's 15th auburn 16th on misses 22nd, Vanderbilt's 23rd. Tennessee doesn't even have a great class. They just got this great prospect, but you know, it's another 5 star guy coming into the SEC. The only league right now that's got more top 25 recruiting classes in the class of 2022 than the SEC is trivia time. Guess it. Say it again. SEC right now has 6 top 25 recruiting classes in 2022. Only one league has more. What league? Oh, man. I can't believe it's a league that is more. I'm going the ACC by default and I don't like my answer. That's the right answer. It is the headline, of course, by duke at number one, but I mean, the SEC is, they are locked and loaded right now. They have got incredible coaches in that league. They're getting incredible players in that league. And when you got incredible coaches, an incredible players that's usually a great mixture to make sure you get incredible basketball teams that can not only compete for national championships, but with them. Last thing here, I was inspired to look up, I do the, I do that thing where coaches get hired, I wait four years, and then I grade the hires, you know, actually once they've submitted work and I can actually grade them one on what they've done. So I did it in 2019 for Barnes. My Rick Barnes hire in 2019 was an a minus. By the way, if you're watching on YouTube, you saw not a YouTube. Go ahead and nudge that like.

"Sons and four. Okay. I have a little more. A little more respect for the clippers than that and wrote about this last week or I forgot to remember what I recently wrote about this. If it's the clippers, I think it's going to be a long series. I really do. And this all, obviously, Paul George factors into this as well. But having norm Powell back who's looked great, Robert Covington looks fantastic. I mean, I talk about the clippers all the time, all the different ways they can play. They're basically 12 deep, 11 deep, and they were competitive against the suns last year in the Western Conference Finals without Powell without. And I understand the sun's roster isn't the exact same meaning. And Chris Palmer is the first two games of that series. Yes, very fair. Game two, an absolute travesty. But we don't need to. We don't need to relitigate the series. But I'm ultimately going with the sons. It's a total idiot. I will say real quick about the sons because they're not that interesting to talk about in terms of the X's and O's right now. But I wrote in our we did this little round table today about teams that have the most pressure coming into the playoffs. I think a lot of people would pick Philadelphia for that answer. I didn't look to see actually who our colleagues. I think I picked the jazz. Yeah, there's no more pressure. It's all over. It's already done. Exactly. But I'm going Phoenix and I went with Phoenix and I wrote about how this is this is it. Honestly. This is championship windows. You can't expect Chris Paul to keep doing this. Yes, he turns 37 years old in three weeks. We don't know Deandre ayton status. If you max out the Andre 8 and you're in the tax, we know their ownership situation. I am. We also don't even know their ownership situation to be honest. Very, very good point. So I, yeah, so I think that there's just like, you factor in the age of Paul, who is very critical, all respected Devin Booker, Michael bridges, cam Johnson, who, by the way, is going to need a new contract as well. And the Denver Nuggets on the Angela's clippers and all these other teams that are just rising Memphis Grizzlies. I'll even throw the Minnesota Timberwolves in there. I don't care. You couldn't laugh at me. But I'm not gonna do that. These teams are rising. And I think it's just gonna be a much more competitive conference next season than getting through for playoff series. That's a great point. That's a great point. The west is gonna be on another level the next year. So I agree, it's a little bit of a do or die season for Phoenix. I just think they're so good. I don't think they're feeling the pressure to be honest. And I don't think they will until maybe they're down a game in a series, but I have a lot of faith in them. They've been a machine well coached, incredibly well prepared, just a buzz saw when healthy, you know, I have a piece coming out about Deandre and that I'm really excited about and just it's not just Chris Paul kind of steering that ship. I think that they've cultivated something greater than that. And between bridges between Johnson between Booker, ayton, like they campaign, even like they have a really, really good team. Yes. So we both like Phoenix ultimately in this series. Okay, next up, speaking of the Timberwolves, speaking of the grizzlies, we have the number two Memphis Grizzlies again. This is my favorite. This is my favorite. Did I say the sixers? I don't know. There's a lot of match ups I have a big fan of. But this one is like there will be a fight. There's gonna be, I wrote my entertainment rankings. This series is gonna have a dust up or hold me back every night. Like every night there's gonna be a scrum where the refs are getting in the middle and Kevin Harlan is like, oh. You know, there's gonna be one of those every night. Yes. You gave me zero reaction to my Kevin harland impression. None. Just do you want to do it again? Do you want to do it again? You could have sold it. You just, it just washed over you. There was nothing there. Sorry. It was very Elizabeth Holmes of you. Oh, wow. Okay, that was below the belt. Okay, so the match up here is very interesting. I think obviously the grizzlies are favored. We should stay off the top. But the way the Timberwolves carry themselves and how they both kind of exude this confidence in this arrogance as young teams on the rise, looking at the Western Conference that potentially is going to be open over the next few years. The storylines kind of write themselves and are fascinating. I think it's really interesting how we talked about Memphis and people who are skeptical about Memphis have said for weeks that, you know, you're not going to be able to just grab every offensive rebound. The fact that you don't make shots are not a great shooting team. All that stuff is like, look, the Timberwolves are maybe the worst offensive rebounding team in the league. So I'm not just going to say because it's the postseason that the Memphis Grizzlies won't eat on the offensive glass and have a 1 million 2nd chance points. That's totally a possibility. But defensively both these teams are just super aggressive, force a ton of turnovers, love to run. And forget about just the Patrick Beverly trash talk and whether or not someone's going to take a swing at somebody else. I just think the way these two teams fly around on defense and wreak havoc and have so much success doing. So all year, just the style of play is going to, if you're just, if you're introducing the NBA to someone who doesn't understand basketball, it doesn't know any of the characters or anything. And you're just like, watch this sport. This series is the series you want to show them because it's going to be so entertaining, such a thrill ride. I can't wait. It's going to be amazing. It's going to be a ton of fun. And just like you said, the emerging stars between ant man, bane, towns, morant, jaren Jackson, junior, it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm curious to see how Memphis, do they put atoms on towns to start the game or do they put Jackson on towns or start the game? Kind of how they're going to try to defend cat. Can I just cut you off real quick? Please. That's a fascinating question because you don't want Steven Adams playing in space. But at the same time, you don't want to turn Jackson picking up 3009 months. That's bingo. That's the one, the one part of why I didn't pick him number one for defensive players. Doesn't he still play under 30 minutes a game?.

"Is a huge amount. And this is the player archetype that always inspires this sort of cold calculated discussion of what could we find 85% of his production at the minimum. Could we find 90% of his production for one third of the price? I went through all the wing contracts, the veteran wing contracts in the league this morning. Just to sort of retest that theory, there's no question that Mikael bridges is way over market for a three and D player. Okay, there are circumstances supporting why that should be the case. And we could talk about that. I love Mikkel bridges. But just what do you think of that sort of general theory and when you go through contracts, what do you see in regards to it? I do think that there is an element of regret sometimes in teams that pass on this type of player. And then they end up going to great lengths. So Philly is actually the example of this probably because they draft Matisse will move up in the draft to make sure that they can get him. The year after they trade away Michael bridges, hoping that he can be this kind of player. And I think machiste, I think we agree is a better defensive player than Michael bridges. But this title is a better defensive player than I just then anyone basically anyone I don't know that he's a human being the way he moves around the floor. I think there's something suspicious, frankly that the league might want to investigate. I love having been able to watch Matisse title at Utah for four years, being able to share this with NBA aficionados like yourself, where it was kind of just limited to a smaller group of us back when he was in college. But there's still chasing after this. You see the teams that let Dani green keep trying to acquire Danny Green type players after that. So I think it's reasonable to reset and rethink our expectations for this market. And then the other thing is mikhil bridges is still young enough that I think you can add a little bit of playmaking attack hard close as that sort of thing that does separate himself from that 80% that James Ennis who is going to be strictly make open three is not as capable of doing anything with the ball in his hands. Yeah, when you look at the contracts like I did for the three and D guys around the league, bridges can make the most of any of them. That's not disputable. And you test out the theory of could I get 90% of him for much less money? Because in a salary cap league, these are the questions they sucked are uncomfortable. You have to ask them, what you find is you're really, there are certain types of players. There's like the undrafted second round guys that maybe you get a steal of a contract for a couple of years. And then they get paid if they're good. They get paid. We'll talk about that. And lump those guys in with the minimum guys. And we can go through all the minimum guys. And the minimum guys are just like a prayer. Like you're just praying that one out of ten chance you'll get 85% of McIlroy's in this particular season. It's just a prayer. Then you have a class of players who either because they're on their second contracts and have already proven something, they make 8 to 12. That's your Reggie Bullock, Jeremy lamb, Taylor Horton Tucker, Luke canard, Alec Burks. We can go there. There's a whole crew of these guys in their salary range. And what you find is those guys usually have a big hole in their game, whether it's they can't do anything off the dribble. There are defensive liability. They're three points shot is unreliable. They're making ten instead of 18 for a reason. And then sometimes you get lucky and you get like a Dorian Finney Smith where you really have them on a bargain contract for four or 5 years combined his first and second contracts. That's pretty rare. You end up having to choose between just the wing and a prayer of a minimum guy or an 8 to $12 million guy. And sometimes those are just like total black holes of regret like jetty Osman has just not worked out in Cleveland. He's making 8 or 9 million a year. This is my long way of saying that I don't I think the 85% theory you feel that ten or 15% so much more in the playoffs. It's an entirely different game. And whatever hole that is that encompasses that 15%, becomes so exposed in the postseason and even more exposed a deeper you get. Mikael bridges has no holes in his game. None. For what he is. You're not gonna ask him to run a pick and roll. I think he ran a 111 pick and rolls last year. That's roughly one a game considering how far the sun's played, right? But as a three and D guy, and I agree with you, I think one of the reasons I'm optimistic about this deal is he showed he's got a little more juice pump go catch, drive, pull up for a mid ranger, get to the rim a little bit more, shot the three well, like he's got a little bit more juice and I think having already showed that, he's probably got even more coming. What do you have to adjust your 15 a game? If you told me averages 19 a game this year, I wouldn't be surprised. If you tell me average is 19 a game with half an assist or one assist more because he's advanced as a playmaker, more comfortable off the dribble, not gonna be surprised. So I think I think this is a totally fine deal. It is a lot for a three and D guy, but I think he is pretty close to an archetypal perfect 3D guy. Yeah, it was Danny Green for a long period of time. And now I think it probably is going to be. He's never a Danny Green has never been able to do anything off the dribble like Mikhail bridges could already do. Every Danny Green dribble is like an a misadventure waiting to happen. And also I love Danny Green, very, very slow. I think the real sign that you'll know that he's that guy is when every player coming into the draft gets compared to him. That's the indication that you're the archetype, right? Yeah. And I think bridges has a chance to become such a perfect three and D player that he almost can't be the archetype because he's an unreachable archetype because it's not realistic for someone to have that kind of ceiling. Now we'll see if the three pointer regresses a little bit, but I'm a mikail bridge's believer. I think he's an absolutely monstrous defensive player. And I don't mind this deal at all. The sham at one, the sham at one surprised me a little bit, even though Monty Williams loves sham it had him in Philly was a big reason they went and got him. Four years 43, you can say, well, it's about the mid level exception, like that's probably his market if he has a good season. I guess I get it. I just really don't get the rush to do that because it's unclear to me how much he's gonna play for Phoenix. Every team he goes to Philly Brooklyn clippers, et cetera, et cetera the idea of Landry shamit ends up being more interesting than the actual player of lantern. I'm still interested in the idea that I can really shoot you can shoot off movement. You can handle a little bit. The defensive limitations are, I think he's actually a little bit better defensive player than people give him credit for. But for some reason, he just doesn't play very much when it matters, and it surprised me a little bit. That's all. Yeah, I think the same thing. I mean, I'm not allowed to invoke the name of the Milwaukee Bucks guard who signed a similar but shorter extension today. But similar players where I think you have that question of on a team that's this good. And especially now a team that in both of these cases, perhaps more so in Milwaukee's case, has luxury tax concerns, are you willing to commit this? And what is it going to cost you down the road? Because you're not willing to use your taxpayer mid level exception on someone else. That sort of thing. Because they're eventually going to be sacrifices even if the suns are willing to pay the luxury tax. There's a limit to that. By the way, a couple wing contracts I wanted to highlight javon Carter three years 11 and a half million. That's got a chance to be really good contract, but then he's 6 one..

"Hop aboard with us. I'll tell you wanted things I'm going to put together. When I get on with them. The Sun's out to a quick to nothing lead in the NBA final have won the first two games. My estimation handily. Certainly going back to Milwaukee is going to improve the bucks. Chances is that can beat up to make this a competitive series. Chris Paul with another big game last night, he was the star of Game one, uh, and was a major contributor last night. Booker was the 30 plus Point Guy and Michael Bridges had a career best NBA playoff score of 27 points, But Chris Paul ran the show as he has, and he looks like he's going to get his first NBA championship. I know we're putting the cart a little bit before the horse here, but I picked Phoenix to win this before it started and they're up to nothing. Just the way they're supposed to be. So I was talking about it hypothetically, Uh, Monday when I pulled in for D A. And last weekend when I was here on CBS Sports Radio. It's probably going to move Chris Paul up the all time NBA Point Guard list. Um, we judge where players stand on all time list. By what they accomplished statistics being a big part of it, but also how far their team goes in the postseason, and Chris Paul's team is almost always make the post season. But he hadn't been to an NBA final before, so he's never surely number one, an NBA championship since he hadn't even made it to a final. This is going to do a good job in raising his stock. And I gave you my rankings of the greatest point guards of all time, and there are two guys that are still active on my list. I put Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson and I saw Oscar play. I'm old enough to say it. I saw Oscar play talent of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, help and lead them with the well tender. To an NBA championship. The only championship between these two teams that are in the finals ever won 50 years ago by the Bucks, Al sender and, uh, Oscar combined for that championship, But we all know about Oscar stats because the triple double has become such a big thing. Uh, statistical wise in the NBA. Oscar started the stat with the way that he played the game first for the Cincinnati Royals and then tail end of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks. Oscar and Magic are the top two for me. And Steph Curry has made his way onto that Top three list. I know he's not the same type of point guard that magic Johnson was, or, um Oscar Robertson was he is much more race scoring point guard. But he's a point guard. Just the same. Um, if you have you got to put him at some position, right? If you're going to be talking about listens, you're going to rank guys by position. You could certainly consider Steph Curry, Steph Curry shooting artery to guard quote what you want? Um, but he played the majority of his career with Klay Thompson in his backcourt. And Klay Thompson is certainly not a point guard. So of one of the two of them has to be a point guard. You would cause death Curry the point guard, so that's why I put him on the point guard list and he would be in the top three for me. Then you got the next group. And you can either say it's three deeper. Four deep the other night day when I broke down my three because I said, that's where I would draw a line Top three, then the next three Then another group behind them. I got a lot of pushback on the fact that Steve Nash wasn't in my group of next three. What are you talking about? Nash was the guy who developed the scoring point guard. That he did what Chris Paul is now doing before Chris Paul ever did it. Yes, Nash was a phenomenal point guard in his day. Um yes, His teams also never made an NBA file. That's been one of the knocks on Chris Paul gets to the playoffs, but then his team don't win and get two NBA Finals once they get there. The same thing for Steve Nash. That's why would have Nash slightly behind him. The guys that I grouped together, and one of them is in the same group as Chris Paul. He made a couple NBA finals, but he had that Michael Jordan guy in this way, and, uh I couldn't get past him. Isaiah Thomas, John Stockton, Chris Paul. I feel strong at the top three are Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson and Steph Curry. Then there's a drop off, and then there's those next three. If you want to put Steve Nash in the mix and say the next four. I'm good with that, because I did Nash seventh, Um, but he would definitively be my seventh. Can be talked to and motivated to move those other three around. Isaiah was more by scoring point guard. He wasn't the same as Stockton, who was a phenomenal passing point guard and yes helped to elevate car Malone to the leading scorer in the history of the NBA when Malone's career was over and done with not as big a score as either Isaiah or Paul But I could be convinced that Chris Paul has moved all the way up to the number four spot as the greatest point guard of all time. He has been that good in this series. He's been as good in his career. And I'd have certainly copped to this. I thought that Chris Paul's better days were behind him. Uh, he gets doubt from Houston to Oklahoma City. Yeah. They made the playoffs and got bounced. In the first round. Um, I just didn't know if he had it left in him, and his career has been rejuvenated with this season in Phoenix. Maybe he's got several good years left in him. Um, he was part of a point guard drafted included, Uh, Deron Williams, Uh and Jason Kidd, both of which are long since at their NBA career is over. Chris Paul still get it done. Um, I group that three together at 1.1 of them getting his first NBA title. The other two are long since a history I think longevity is part of the conversation and I give him a ton of credit for his longevity. Do you put him? How high do you put him in the All Star in the all time point Guard list. I say he's moving up with a bullet right now. With what he's doing with the Phoenix Suns. I I fear that this series is going to be short lived. I don't know that the, uh The Bucks have a counterpunch here going back to Milwaukee. They were a very good home team this year, and that's what they're going to have to rely on. They're gonna have to believe that this is their chance to get even. You've got to be able to win a game on the road when you don't know. Court advantage, but they don't the sons do, but you've got it. First of all, you got to get back into the series. When you drop the first two games before you do anything else. You've got to get back into the series and Yannas game his best shot last night if you didn't see the game Just give you my impressions on it, Um His output in game number one. He's feeling his way coming back from the injury had missed a a decent chunk of time. I don't know that his conditioning was what it usually is. He is the Greek freak for a reason. He is one of the most finally tuned athletes in the entire NBA. But at times he looked winded in the game because he was giving every single ounce of effort that he had, and he looked like he ran out of gas..

"Us now. Vince. Uh, we talked to you Tuesday morning after that Ugly game five loss Monday night, and you told us about how concerned you were with C P three's played to that point. It doesn't look like Chris Paul looked before the covid diagnosis missing all that time in the first two games. You just He looks like a different player. Suffice it to say he laid pretty much all those concerns aside for you last night. Oh, and then something. Yeah. What? What He did and when? When things got tight. The Clippers get to within seven points late in the third quarter and starting to get a little bit hairy there, Uh, Chris Paul then just said okay, I'm taking over and did and what he did in the final 13 minutes of that game was absolutely remarkable. And it wasn't I mean, He'll get the lion's share of the credit and rightfully so. But, um, the sons played a terrific basketball game. It was a very reassuring performance from the very start. I mean, the Clippers come out in that zone defense, the first play as a Is a dunk by Michael Bridges. And it kind of felt like everything was going to be okay. Even then. Yeah, totally. Alright. Can I ask it now? So we've been giving Jamie a bad time because she asked the question before we were done with the Nuggets. You know who we wanted to see the sons play next. I think now we can We can we ask, you can actually going to play next. Who do you want them to play? Next? I think I'm leaning Milwaukee. Jamie. Actually, the Atlanta Hawks. I mean, both of those teams are Affected by injury Right now, Each team's best player. Yeah is hurt with with Yannis being hurt and Trae Young for Atlanta. Atlanta has a spirit about them, Um, much like the sons have, I believe, and I think Milwaukee Good team really deep team. I think they've got championship ingredients, but I think they're also a little soft mentally, so I'll go with Milwaukee. But I will also add this. I don't think it matters. Yes. No, I think you're right. Uh, for me, I think I think they stack up better against Atlanta, but that's just me. But you know, uh, there's a big part of me that wants to see the bucks because I've got relatives in Wisconsin and maybe just get them to be nice and quiet. It would be nice. Um, so as a Suns fan, what's more satisfying for you Go into the finals for the first time in almost three decades or watching Patrick Beverley get ejected. And then Uh oh, and the whole team eliminated from the post season. It was a fitting end for Patrick Beverley, wasn't it? And the Clippers? Um For him to do what he did last night. I mean, that's who he is. That's who he is as a player, and it was frustrating because in the course of play, he can make it look accidental. But that's exactly the type of player he is. It was a very fitting end to see him walking to the tunnel with his team down by 20. Plus, uh, you know, he did nothing in the second half of that game. He did nothing to help his team as the sons were pulling away, had a good first half well, and for those who don't know, by the way here was here was the call Last night on 98 7 FM. "You can't stop that. You just hope to limit them because there's too good or too many things and trade on this too good and too many things and have too many. She was around them. And just as long as you have that guy, you have a chance. Um, so they have a chance and they're going to make this series competitive. I just think Joel and me right now might be playing better than anyone else in the NBA. I had a story up today on Fox Sports and It's like one of these silly questions, but just thinking about it, there's no Is there another player in the league who carries mortal load on defense and offense in terms of he's the focal point of what they do on both ends of the floor, right? It's pretty much it's free press in modern times, Be honest, would be the closest comparison but playoff times. You don't really run an offense through him, just and indeed. This season has become an amazing offensive player. He always had the skills. He took another level this season because of a mid range shooting is conditioning is much better. And you just see the Hawks have no answer for include Capella is a big guy, and he looks puny going up against indeed so I don't know if it keeps going to average 40 for the series, but I don't know unless the meniscus tear gets worse, And that's that the other crazy parties averaging like 40 points a game and on a tour meniscus, which I guess we should all try to slightly tear meniscus is Yeah, Maybe. So, huh? The minute sky minutes gets. I don't know what the thoroughly but so um, But, yes, I just I just don't think the hawks have an answer. I'm curious to see tonight if the economy be go small and just say Okay, we can't match in the post. Let's see if we can spread the floor a little bit. Maybe pull you out of paint, make things a little different for you. I'll because I will say Trae Young is open some eyes. Obviously when you're playing New York in the first round. You know there's eyes on that to see whether the Knicks could stay with them and make it interesting. So there were eyeballs early on, and he just was so dominant. It's so important and so critical to their Easily easy win over the Knicks that you know more eyeballs were on them and people really giving him the credit that he clearly deserves. I mean, he really makes things happen out there, and there's a Fun player to watch. So I hope this series goes long. So we get to watch them longer. That's all I can say about trade. Young is that you know when I watch him play, I'm entertained. Yes, He's been great and just entertained and like I Yeah, I like how it kind of embracing the showmanship part of it, because it's entertainment, right? And, um and I'm just in awe like the way I kind of describe it as one of these guys if you're watching, and you're like If you're thinking from the defensive side of the ball and just had a garden, and it must feel like the court is a mile wide and that there are just too many options for you to stop and guys like that, and it's so fun in watching him, sort of Do the calculations or just manipulated defense and okay, I'm driving now and I'm going to do the floater and I got kicked the ball out for a three pointer. Am I going to pull up for shooting? It's just It's just a blast. It's a blast and really cool and just Yeah, it's beautiful. Speaking of guys that could distribute the ball and do things well, and I've been waiting a long time. Chris Paul off to a good start, but now they go back to Denver. What do we expect here? Um, I mean, yeah, like then, if Denver had your mom worry, Denver would be our title favorite like you know, right there with anyone you know, with with him, it's it's hard and forget. I mean, the whole the whole backcourt right there, Starting composite one another, You know, their whole backwards injured Bill Barton was interact. I don't remember There's something on him, Um But, yeah, it's just it's hard when you when you reach the second round. If you're second best player about on your team are not healthy. You shouldn't really be able to advance would help right. That could speak is deep enough. Um So your kitchen's great I don't want to count him out. He's someone who can average 40 the rest of the way. And we're talking about these guys who are far like like crayon, but just a better version in terms of fun to watch and meeting defenders feeling helpless and opposing schemes and coaches consumed like they're just too many options to take away and you can't take all them away. Um, so that's great. But Phoenix is really good. They're deep. They have their well rounded, versatile they have, you know, Chris Paul everyone Knows what he's capable of, and how he organizes this human abilities on both sides. Devin Booker get a shot anytime. DeAndre Ayton has looked great. He's been playing Jokisch to almost the draw. Also the series, which is a huge difference, that's basically a win. Not basically, that's a huge win for Phoenix. Michael Bridges is one of the great This season is wide open and parody and all that, and maybe it wasn't wide open. Maybe it is going to be the one and two seeds like it always is. We just weren't used to seeing teams from Utah and Phoenix being those top two seats. Why George and Kwai having the problems they're having against Utah so far, and you mentioned Donovan Mitchell doing so much so? Well, I mean, you know, night after night. Yeah, the Clippers thing man and I had an answer for the Clippers saying for the past two years, but I I mean, you know we can. We can talk about try to pick up things, but they're just a weird team. I know that's like Super deep and clear analysis. Um, but it just it just it's confusing that this is a team that should be much better than they are. Because here's.

DeAndre Ayton Devin Booker Donovan Mitchell Chris Paul Trae Young George Bill Barton Joel Michael Bridges 40 points Kwai Knicks Clippers tonight today Capella Utah 40 second second round

"Their three game losing streak winning 1 14. One of the three and that should do it. Yeah, warriors go down in Phoenix last night. That was the final score. 1 14 93 listening to that that there are mornings were overnight. Dave puts together the show open and it fires you happened even if the Warriors lose. There are moments throughout the game where Bob Fitzgerald's going. Not City scream. Yes, sir. And he's giving you a bunch of those. Maybe it's also the last few games that were at Oracle Arena. Like whatever crowd noise. They're pumping it. They make it so I said Oracle, didn't that boy? How about that Freudian Slip act at Chase Center? Excuse me. Pardon me. Sorry Warrior fans at Chase Center. They pump in that noise in its rockets, and it's loud and I was thinking about the show open the other morning that David and the Wisemen dunk and running the floor, and Fitz is going nuts. Even though he's sitting in the stuff he's sitting in the studio of here at like third and Howard of the NBC Sports Bay Area studios that broadcast the day just came in with from TNT. With total snooze, but one of the latest something broadcast. I never heard that because it was anything incorrect about it was just just kind of lame, sort of like the Warriors performance last night in Phoenix. We were yesterday talking about how this was kind of. I wouldn't call it a benchmark game because Phoenix is I was watching Phoenix last night. I was thinking about how they're kind of a like, sort of a traditional when I was growing up there like a mid two thousand's basketball team. Yeah, they had. Chris Paul, who's an aging superstar, and Michael Bridges is a nice young player. He played pretty well. Last night led the Suns with 24. Waits. Cameron Johnson look pretty good for them scoring off the bench, but as far as the rest of that team goes, there's not a whole lot outside of Devin Booker, who did not play yesterday to get excited about Deandra. Eight, and they got a big man, Jamison Crowder. All right, You got some veterans out there. They're trying to build a little bit of cohesion. But without Devin Booker, who's nursing that hamstring injury? I don't think they're really going to be much of a threat to anybody. Unless you're the Warriors. Unless after the night you shoot 53%. From the field and they were on fire from deep Also two nights ago. They came out yesterday. Hello? Performance here. They shoot 46% from the field 34 a half percent from three point land. It was an ugly, ugly game. Excuse me. That was the finish line. It was 38% for the warriors from the field. I should say 29%. From three point land and the one that really hurt them, and we joked about it. We were hoping that this was going to kind of be a turning point for him. Kelly Uber a junior man, he is when he's going well like he was two nights ago against Minnesota and Minnesota's a bad team. Don't even think the Warriors are a team that plays the level of their opponent. I think they're just an inconsistent team. They're kind of a mediocre team and the right the middle of the pack as far as the teams that are in flux. In the Western Conference. But Kelly you break when he's going well when things were clicking for him, it kind of snowballs, and I think it I think it happens the other way, too, because, well, he's a guy who's got short term memory when he's on the floor like he'll reach for a steel who commit a foul who go to the bench, and then I'll come back and score 16 in the second quarter like we saw two nights ago or he'll come out like he did last night, reached a couple of times, give up some easy scores to Chris Paul put himself in a bad defensive situation and then tried to shoot his way out of it, and if he can't shoot his way out of it, it's going Something ugly last night till dawn up bricks. What is this? A Mason convention? Exactly. It's exactly this guy couldn't shoot his way out of a paper bag last night, dude, one of 11 from the field, oh, of five from three point land and the thing it's like, I don't want to call it embarrassing or anything. But the thing that sucks is we were all fired up like a man. This guy I heard about the trade rumors and said it didn't affect him. But we thought we'll put maybe Maybe it did affect him. But maybe it affected him positively like maybe he He got a little chapped about that and and decided he was gonna put it into his Damon and harnesses frustration into his game. And then you think, Oh, boy, they turn around and he's going to play the Phoenix Suns. The team that traded him to the Warriors. All right, Kelly, who break time for a performance from you in last night on Twitter, It all happened again. People calling for him to go back to the bench and following these potential trade rumors, or Or the trade inquiry from the New Orleans Pelicans on this was a rough one last night, and Anthony Slater in his article in the athletic He He's not trying to use Kelly, who braved a scapegoat. But what he does do is compare him to Clay Thompson, which is unfair because it's It's not that he's the same type of player. However, he is the Clay Thompson replacement. He's in that role, and they went in. They got him at 14 year, plus the luxury tax. They've gotta pay because they need a a wing defender. They need somebody like Clay Thompson, who while he's not as Maybe flash. He's not the right word. She's not going to take his many risks as Kelly Uber Junior's gonna take Uber is gonna try to reach at you. He's going to try to grab you. He's going to try to steal the ball. He'll go up for a block, which is why statistically he's swinging and missing and swinging and making contact with a whole lot of stuff. He's just sort of a how about this for it for an analogy, and I'll give this one to Mervyn Mac. Later, Kelly, you berate junior for me. He's a sloppy eater. He's a slop hitter in baseball. You can throw a bunch of junk up there like Pablo Sandoval. He's gonna happen a lot of it..

Warriors Kelly Uber Phoenix Devin Booker Chase Center Chris Paul Clay Thompson Bob Fitzgerald Phoenix Suns Oracle Arena Oracle Pablo Sandoval Dave basketball Suns Jamison Crowder baseball Michael Bridges Mervyn Mac
