Democrats plan to go after Mike Bloomberg during his first debate appearance Wednesday
"Michael Bloomberg is to take part in his first democratic presidential debate on Wednesday after polls suggested a surge in his popularity one of his rivals for the party's nomination senator Elizabeth Warren said the event in Las Vegas would allow herself and the other candidates to display their skills against egomaniac billion that similar to Donald Trump Mr Bloomberg has already spent hundreds of millions of dollars on campaign ads including one criticizing president trump's attitude towards immigrants from Latin America tries to convince Americans that there are too many Latinos living hearing demonized as immigrants from Mexico and Central America this call them believe it or not from minerals and rapists and murderers and killers he's call them animals and he said that our country is on the invasion facing infestation and in the station that's what they call Jews in **** Germany so why has Mr Bloomberg entered the debate in Nevada a question for all US reporter Anthony's archer well it's because the qualification criteria that the Democratic Party puts on debates changed for this debate used to be that you had to have a certain number of small donors in order to qualify and of course Michael Bloomberg's only donor to his campaign is himself to the tune of about four hundred million dollars so far so what they did was they change it only to be poll standings and if you'd won any delegates in previous caucuses and primaries so all the son Michael Bloomberg qualified for the debate at and he's going to be on the stage there against his democratic opponents away to see place himself on the political spectrum I think it falls down in the middle we have to remember he was a former Republican when he was mayor of New York City he ran it regionally as a Republican then switched to being an independent and only recently switched to being a Democrat and if you listen to him he says the reason is because the Republican Party has moved away from the center he's always stay the same if you break down his policies when he was mayor he was he had a kind of a tough on crime reputation he back something called stop and frisk which allowed New York City police officers to search anyone they suspected of wrongdoing and it targeted disproportionately young black males New York City residents and a lot of critics you that as a civil rights violation and a racist policy Bloomberg has since backed away from them but if you look at other policies that he has other other things he supported he supports gun control he supports an aggressively tackling climate change Hugo crackdown on cigarette smoking in the city all those things put him being in either in the mainstream or slightly to the left of many Democrats so he's kind of an interesting candidate who I think will probably take fire for being a former Republican but some of his policies are very popular among Democrats to what extent does he pose a threat to the existing candidates well they're going to be two more states that hold their nomination contests before Michael blue burgers even on the ballot this Saturday Nevada and then the Saturday after in South Carolina they're going to be the other candidates kind of battling for pole position up against Michael Bloomberg come the beginning of March when there are I believe fifteen states that are gonna hold primaries and Michael Bloomberg is going to be on the ballot and not all of them I think after member that Bernie Sanders did very well in Iowa the senator from Vermont he did very well in Iowa he won New Hampshire Hey he's leading in the polls despite all this talk about Michael Bloomberg he's actually doing the best of any candidate right now he's gonna have a lot to say about how this all shakes out but it's going to be a different kind of a race with Michael Bloomberg in it with his virtually limitless resources and we'll have to see you know if if you can actually start winning some states and then it's anybody's ballgame today's okay
Colbie Caillat on Overcoming Stage Fright + Her new band Gone West + Getting Discovered on MySpace at 20 Years Old
"Are episode to twenty-eight with Calais was telling you we were just talking and I said just roll on it so we started doing this podcast Mike. How long ago like three years ago and I was just doing it for my house because I was like you know what I'd like to talk too long former actual songwriters and I'd like to kind of go a little deeper because F- friends and I do comedy and I write books so it's it's different. It's this exposure to a different kind of the process. You get people see the stage but they don't see everything else and so we started doing it thinking nobody would listen because we think I. It was just a passion project. Yeah but I would bring on my favorite song writers and again I was being very selfish because some of my friends that I would never get to ask real deep questions about work with because you just don't do that with your friends. Yeah maybe you do the settings right but you don't go to dinner with your friend and their wife and go so track six so So it started from that and then as it started to get bigger and bigger than sponsors. Wanted to get involved and now it's like one of the biggest is amazing so we didn't expect it to be this and that's the whole thing and everybody comes to the house. That's great 'cause I don't want to go back to the studio. This is perfect. Yeah do you live close to here? Yeah you do Fire some people were like be there at six. Pm and then. Joe Detail Mike. What hour and forty minutes to get that how? I'm not sure if he walked control. There's bad traffic here. But that's a little much. Well good to see you get to see what's happening Being good had some a little bit of time off after the holidays and we had a lot you know with the Gone West. The Band of men. We've been touring a lot the last year so it was nice to have some time back in California with family. And now it's going to be back here in Nashville. So when you guys start back as gone West you kind of have to start over again. Which is I guess. Probably Weird feed have to start over but also it's gotta be weird to start over but everybody already knows who you are when you're trying to spread it amongst four. Yeah like I. That would be an uncomfortable thing you have to deal with. Upfront. I'm sure so you walk into a radio station your call we Kelly. You have three people. Nobody's ever heard of yet. How does that? How does that work? Well Yeah it's interesting and I think the funny part about it is. I wanted to be in a band because I the spotlight would be off me and it would just you know I. It wouldn't just be only me and it's not now it's all of us but there is still that factor that you know they. They know who I am and they know my music and there's a lot of them that want extra picture after with just me or they want they request one of my songs and it's been an interesting thing to balance because you don't want to upset people but I also want it to be focused on Gone West in all still do my music on the side but I it's just a balance that we're learning still basically. Do you have to have that conversation with the guys and I'm sure they know going into it as well. I mean you're famous and they're really great musicians but they're not famous yet So is that something you guys sit in a room and go okay. Here's what's GonNa Happen Now. We're going to deal with it because I do my show all the time. Do we have to talk about scenarios? That could probably happen whenever we'd went something like this just to be prepared for that's smart. That's a really good idea. No therapy no like paramore. Go to therapy as a group. Oh no there's group therapy okay. I mean therapies healthy. There's a lot of different dynamics and we all started out as friends like we've been friends for about fourteen years and were two couples in the band. And I think that we've all been our own solo artists and individual songwriters into now. Do this all together. It's it's an important thing for us to be able to get how have helped with our communication basically molly good like next level sounding good. I didn't know you were good but I didn't know until you guys played just how good you were and I think maybe you're having to do that now. Go show people. Yeah Yeah we're having we're we're going to play our songs and we love this album that we made and it's it's taken us like two and a half years to write this album but we wrote it all together and and yeah I think just the factor of of with with my name in the band. they all knew that going into it and they so it's nothing that they were you know can have an issue with or or be worried about you know everyone was prepared. They've known me forever so they knew that was a part of it now. Are you only doing on West? Or you also doing solo stuff. I'm doing occasional solo stuff but not really like I'll do a show here and there are festival but we're GONNA s taking up so much of our time. So you're saying you're not pursuing anything solo like creating and putting out new music. Is Kobe not right now. I want to like I want to start doing that. In the next couple of months and You know I I right by myself at home. Sometimes but I want to book some sessions just for me that I can think of putting out in the future but there's no plan for that as of yet. 'cause yeah is the co a little weird to you that it's such a Culture Nashville since you do write a lot by yourself. Well I've used to co writing so all my most of my songs have in my first album. I co wrote with Jason Reeves. Susan Gone West and I think the difference is in La as an artist. We you know I would ride on the road but I would. I would mainly right when I have a an album. I'm writing for and keep stuff like in the bank so I'd I'd start something on the road and I bring it into a session in La and I think the difference here is is people right like one two songs a day. It's like a nine to five job and they're so They're so professional at it there so you know well just their craft has been so Mastered and so for me. I take along a break before I ride again and so I think that's been the interesting thing about coming here and having to write more often is I didn't do that with my Solo career. I would start songs by myself. And I'd I'd book some writing sessions you know here and there and then. I'd have an album in here. You you end up writing a lot. More you mentioned Jason wrote the saw or you and Jason worked on the first record together. Do you guys have been writing together. That long yeah. Wow Yeah so. How did you to initially start working or get to know each other? It's kind of crazy so It ultimately it was from The the guy who ended up producing my album cocoa Michael Blue. He was one of my dad's. My Dad had a record. Label and Michael. Blue was an artist at the time and he was signed to him and then ended up just going on to being a producer. So I had met Michael Back then I was like fifteen and Michael heard me sing I was just like harmonising next to him in the studio and he was like. Oh my God I should get you in the studio and so that was my first start of like being the studios working with Michael Blue and someone that he knew on a who she also worked for my dad back in the day. She met Jason Randomly in New York for something and basically they connected. Us thinking Jason us to come to l later right and you guys you should just be friends that was basically all it was I had never written. I'd written one song in my life. No one I was nineteen nineteen and a half and so jason came to L. A. They asked me to pick them up from the studio because he needed a friend like an a friend in La and we wrote a song together that night and that was the first. Go right that we ever had. We didn't plan to have occurred right. We just wrote in my bedroom at my house and thousand oaks and so that's really how we met. It was crazy for this whole like full circle here. Well Yeah. So that's why that's how this ban. Kinda came about is so Jason's wife Donell. Who is in the reindeer girls? She's lived in Nashville for fifteen years And then Me and my fiance Justin Who've been together for ten years and We moved here to to try living in a new city and it just kind of progressed we all hung out and we all started writing songs together and suddenly turned it into a

"So seems like has an amazing voice just Michael blue by which was so pure and young and like, really was the perfect link Larkin. And I just was watching the film, like with so much all in, like in my eyes and being so pleased with how it came out, and they just remember at the time thinking, when it came out like this is a cheap knockoff. Yeah. And you know what ruins it? Let me think adult Azeem. John travolta. Yeah. It's like a soon, John Travolta will be cancelled for being like a Kevin Spacey, and we're not going to be able to enjoy the movie anymore. Okay. Until John Travolta is cancelled and I get like some firm proof of, of misbehavior aside from just like him being a weirdo for sure. He's definitely weird. I fucking love him. I know. And like that role for him. He was so great. And he was like, EDNA Turnblad is like such a great character. He did such a great thing with role job at the role, but, like a part of me knows the truth. And it's like our days are numbered hairspray. I don't know the truth. So I'm just going to be ignorant and blind. Okay. Until like oh, and then Christopher Walken until Ronan Farrow, spells it out for me. I don't know the truth, totally, so that's nice for me. What did you do yesterday? Oh my God. I've been going through so hung out yesterday. We shop till we drop. Oh, yeah. I got some good stuff. I have some coming events affairs of winning in Kentucky. But I've been like this has been the longest week for me because I thought I had an event on Tuesday, which was the Jonas brothers album release party. I don't know if I told the story yesterday, no guest, we thought it was latter Bank. I say on the on the story yesterday. Nobody we said, basically that we were going tonight. They you were saying that it was a snitch e if Aaron a gateway may tell. Yes, so too, I thought it was on Tuesday. And then I check my Email and it wasn't, and then I'm like, oh, it's Wednesday. So then Ben also got invited. He's like, what I think we got invited to separate part is because mine's on Thursday. So after the toast yesterday eligible Email Mike, okay. In fact, it was Thursday. So now, it's like I have thought that I was going to the same event for three days straight, and I believe it's tonight. Yeah, I don't want to Jason but I think it's tonight and she got a plus two so I'm able to go, and I'm so excited. I'm excited to also someone just put an interesting factoid in the feed. Did you know that little sister and hairspray little? I Knez yes, it's played by one of the things you next writers, tastes parks. So when I did more research on the cast on the cast. I saw her as little Anez, entering tendon show familiar, and I didn't know why now I know that song, right until that, that was just wanted like the best in the whole film, two of the songs that are in the, this soundtrack are not from the original run until that which is the best song and without love, which is literally the best song. So it's better than average like my mother on a diet Lancashire week. That's only mandate, only I cream ever Sunday's legacy circle with no center like door marked, do not injure, darling. I'll be forever and never one without the now you've captured me, love ASU renter. Happily such a good song, such great movie..

"Was fun giving away. Michael blue bland tickets. Nobody knew the words song man that is the biggest takeaway from that. Last segment is everybody loves him. But they don't know his. Oh, no idea where lyrics are. But they love him. Yeah. Yeah. And a lot much more men called in than women. True. You and I pulled up at the same time today, and you're rocking. Boo. Blaine your car. IDC DC tell us that is not true about that is not true. No. It is not okay. I wouldn't recognize Michael boob lay smack me across the face and downtown screening, not true. You know, exactly what he looks. But he wouldn't do that. Because he's too polite because he's Canadian he's a very nice, man. He's got a wonderful voice. I wouldn't do that to you. I got to tell you. That's pretty good. It's okay. It's pretty good. Yeah. I'm no boob way. No. You're not. But it's not half bad. Why do parents want to throw money out the window because because they have children. Well, I thought you'd like this toy. Parents are paying people to be their child's homework therapist because their children are stressed out. So this may go a bit further than say, the usual to tutor or the tutelage that someone you can hire that they also manage your child's emotions about homework. So I know a lot of parents out there figuring trying to figure out. Well, how do I know if my kid needs a homework therapy? I can tell you. Well is your kid is snowflake raise your kid of snowflake. Is that what it is? Or you snowflake yourself now. And that's the case now need apparently a emotional support tutor now here, here's here's what it is. When my nine year old defiantly for twenty minutes tells me that little is spelled L I T T E L L I T T E L that's wrong after we look up in the dictionary gel. I don't think that's right. I'm wrong. The dictionary is wrong. She goes into Al Pacino mode of everybody's out of order. There's no, and she just has a meltdown. Maybe I would consider a homework therapist because she's not listening to me. She's not listening to mom, and what are the other options here? She's got to do her homework. But if she's not willing to listen or learn from mom or dad, well, then who do you turn to I'm not turning to a emotional support tutor because that's not a Turkey, not emotional support animal like a tortoise and emotional support therapist homework. Homework therapist. I think it's it's ridiculous. I think that if you need a therapist, you should go to a therapist. I'm not I'm not saying that that's bad. We've all been therapists. I think it's I think they're great. Becky Lynn hasn't beckons perfect. Perfect Charlie wife, but therapists there if you have a problem, if you're going through a divorce if you have trauma, if something happened to you you having Zaidi all that kind of stuff. I totally get it going with Erebus. You don't even therapists for homework. I get it homework. Stresses kids out. You know, what that's good? That's how kids learn our kids could be traumatizing though. I don't think they build up so much. I I guess they built up so much anxiety that paralyzed be good. Well, when our kids were in high school, okay, they had so much homework. They also had part time jobs. Yeah. But they just like everybody before them figured out a way to do it. And they didn't need someone sitting there telling them. Everything's gonna be. Okay, you go. You do it. You figure it out. And it makes you tougher homework. Therapists, say look all I want is my my kid to get into USC, and I'm not willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it. I will alone. I will hire a homework. Therapist before that guy that got caught cheating coming up at five o'clock KTAR news expansion, we've got the latest on the YouTube mom indicted on thirty counts of child abuse. He could be the velvet freezing rain or some other of weather fog frozen. I dunno whatever let me ask you guys. This question. Rob rob in here for his daily beating Lori Lynn, although we got to yesterday dishing out Biran kind of a tear right now. I don't want to say he's on fire. But he's there's a little smoke coming up, right? So is this funny or not? It's so cold that Elizabeth Warren is pretending to be eskimo. I thought that was funny. Any Elizabeth Warren joke ac-, exactly low hanging fruit. And all I thought it was funny. I don't like Michael Blue Cross today. There's there's really nothing. I could we were having days today. So today has been day telling people, I the we have the computer gremlins we had him here at work. I did all kinds of work for my blog today that I saved and then it was not here when I got here. So it's just been one of those days that I'm just like it's three forty nine shows almost over and I didn't kill anybody. I'm feeling pretty good about the. Did say there was some the bat. We should really someday. Like have a full on nerd out explanation of how this whole thing works. So people understand what it doesn't work. There's no way around it. It's you know, back in the day when we first started having automation on radio stations. We still had all of the backups. We had all the CDs and the carts and everything else right behind us. So if something poop the bed, we could just turn around and stay on the not now, not is just always tell people your computer at home doesn't run twenty four hours a down to all the time. Now doesn't run correctly. This is just a big, computer. Some days are going to have burps. Used to have a card. I remember that said we're experiencing technical difficulties. Would play until you got back on a cart. Is it's like many eight track team. That's the high-speed technology that we used in radio stations until the mid nineties. Well, the program director asked me what we should put on a loop. In case, we go off the air to tell people were having problems, I suggested baby shark. Yeah. It'll be Michael blue play. That's menas boob, the boob lay singing baby sharks. There you go. Now, it's time for the most exciting segment on the radio guy. Of the day..

I'm not going. Well, you've never seen Michael blue, obviously because it gets gets rowdy, really. And that's where the mosh pit is great. The last night. This is a humanitarian crisis a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul. That's from last night's address to the nation, President Trump digging in saying, there's a growing humanitarian humanitarian and security crisis at the US Mexican border, but he did stop short of declaring a national emergency. I actually expected that did you not e-e-e-e-no he hinted about it. So yeah, I wouldn't have been surprised I would not have been surprised at all. He also called it. A crisis of the heart and soul said women and children are the biggest victims of illegal immigration noted that illegal immigration, strains, public resources in the US. He also noted that the flow of illegal illicit drugs across the border, which he he had some figures there that I don't know are are actually factual. But they are minutes. As scary scary thing is we'll have more on this coming up throughout the morning. So you do not want to miss that overall. What would you give it a great? I'd say. I'd say I'll give it a pretty good job. I did not see the democratic response because I fell asleep. I figured I'll just wait for the next award show for that charity. What else is going on?.

"This seeing crack crack like these cool you know he's got a smooth right now he's michael blue exactly like i was ended the cracking the climax of this is that they have to stop and i wrote this down just to make sure i got it right because it's kind of too stupid to even believe they have to stop this land singing cracking rate here who turns evil when van helsing become that van helsing becomes a dj and start spinning eating him and dub step put on that the piss somebody off what the fuck about making them turn evil start playing i hate that look step is done i don't like it but i don't turn trying to kill people and i was like you got to be fucking kidding me man and then they ain't even done yet at the moment they feel like the day has been saved in the crack it has been defeated everybody gets together today the muck arena what the fuck just happened here it's adam sandlers obsession with the eighties nineties i guess that's what it is he does that in every movie he finds somebody to crowbar that music in there the movie as a kids movie i was not like i'm going fine with this and then and then it's like being the kids part of where the drugs just kick in and his parents are running who wants to knows everybody's on some shit and this is the way what the fuck happened this is not right i'm curious miles you ever been in a dj battle okay so that is a real thing now did you ever in your arsenal did you try try winning by playing the beach boys yeah he's like wait i know how to fix this and he puts on a beach boys record oh they gave cracking the crack some goodbye breaks hey craig is that the beach boys the last part is part of the climax there's so much shit they just pile on like i don't even know what i'm watching anymore yeah this is not where we started at all no no this is look i wasn't like marna was like i'm a little soft on it i'm there for the children but as far as martin my rating but you know the kids were dancing mockery and everything they the leg of whatever but i i can't i what was once a what was going to be mad nays just rent this at home should the kissing tell the difference for the kids at this this is geared towards they hang on no the difference if you let the less they get on your god damn nerves and you have to take them out somewhere you need to take this movie but they asked for hotel transylvania you know what just wait for the video come out ship put on hotel transylvania through is nobody was really asking for this and i'll probably be a hit and i know that there are some critics out there who are relying on run tomatoes seventy percent at this moment seventyone i don't i don't understand how people letting climax slide like that but it's it's a rental from me people people do that i honestly i for me with with the second one and this pile on top of it i feel like this franchises gone it's gotten so bad that i'm embarrassed even say i liked the first one that's how i felt coming out i mean for me personally it's kinda some old bullshit but i do recognize that it's still pretty and it's it's still good for little kids so i would give it a low rental larry we're not too far from each other just those painful it just reminded me like oh yeah he's saturday morning animated movies tend to not be good at all and i'm in drunk drunk the day before right wasn't goddamn blob through the moderator just never got tired of repeating the same gag with that blob over in not didn't man they had time to feel how many babies blah movie man yeah did no leg day do it for the stops have a whole music video with drac walk out on the deck of the ship as like kind of cool wait how long is this going to go yeah they played the whole bruno bruno bruno mars i guess we got time.

"For development he followed me out of the room afterwards and he said hey hey so listen that was great good job said thank you thanks thanks i really like it he goes yeah he says you're supposed to come in tomorrow for that other thing right and i said yeah yeah he said bright but this right i said yeah yeah i love the show he said yeah note listen don't come in for that thing tomorrow and i was like okay yeah i said i don't want the network to see you i said okay i got you think this is this is good right he says yeah yeah no no good good i said okay grab you had to run back in for somebody else but i remember like flying down to my car and calling my agent and saying i think i just got some good feedback from this thing and do you remember what the addition itself had entailed well certainly scene from the pilot i don't remember specifically which one it was but i do remember just guessing guessing what it is based on reading the whole script what kinda lane my character michael blue needed to fill in order to ground the incredibly eccentric in a good way the other characters were and and try to provide some kind of a counterbalance to that and that was the genius of his of his construct you have said another profile that i read quote with the characters that i'm really drawn to i am the audience close quote and then separately quote i just don't want to be a character actor i don't wanna be the guy that explodes does a bunch of acting i liked to be somebody who's a little bit more of a tour guide for the audience and observes those people that are doing a bunch of acting close quote was that the case before arrest development or was that as a result of finding a role that was centrally that that's knowns asked me that you're right it's a rested arrested development was the it was my sense of humor at that time i think earlier i was either by virtue of doing a lot of multicap studio audience stuff i had really enjoyed developing this.

"You know in the ninety s hip hop on on on chr contemporary hit radio so it's it's it's influenced and it's been and it's there i just don't understand why people want to turn a blind eye to it and especially last night there was a real effort to acknowledge the fact that you're going to hear a lot of performances of bands that you might not be familiar with like michael blue blaze had that off the top we're we're showcasing some newer up and coming artists so i don't see why a young hip hop artists can't be a part of that equation right now the other big sort of political statement was the metoo movement and i think it's worth mentioning the absence of headley who withdrew from the junos after several reports of allegations of sexual misconduct began to surface earlier this year now banned has denied the allegations it's singer jacob hogarth says he's not engaged in any nonconsensual sex but there weren't any mentions of headley during the actual broadcast what did you make of that i appreciate it there wasn't mentioned heavily during the broadcast because when often went these sexual sexual harassment allegations come forward there's a lot of spotlight being put in attention being put on the perpetrators and the victims often get kinda shuffled to the side and i think really what came forward was just a message of support for women's support for women support for female representation a real kind of feeling of women come together and supporting each other not only in our personal lives but in our careers you know to help us rise above and be there for each other so it's not like you're at the mercy of you know this patriarchal system that's in place stewart what did you think about the me too and i know that buffy sainte marie made quite an impactful statement also had diana krall winning producer of the year which i don't know if that's ever happened for if it's extremely rare occurrence for a woman to win producer the extremely rare for women to be even nominated for caesar of the year so you know so i felt there was a little of walking the walk along with talking the talk and i always like to make mention of what the show sounded like because so many times you watch an awards show and the sound is crappy.

"It was really cool too is um traditional pop vocal album so up for that bob dylan seth mcfarland sarah mclaughlin of michael blue blais also up for that and who wins tony bennett and it was tony bennett celebrates ninety and i feel fortunate to have seen tony bennett i guess maybe three maybe three years ago the other took me to see tony bennett and we just thought it was phenomenal is there and saying a couple of songs with him so anyway i'm not going to run through all the list of all the grammys but there's a couple of big ones for you if you will because they they've all kinds of of categories like gospel album and you know new age albar men song written for visual media men soundtracks for visual medium spout any category could possibly think of twisted into music year it's you'll find it right so if we jump around to kind of a little bit of odds and ends on the life circuit is what i'm going to call it that i'm going to cut the lie circuit you know we always have these polls were we talk about petitions the best the worst this that who's got the highest ratings and i happen to read the miami herald today and i was looking at one of the one of the polls that they had and they say florida ranks dead last when it comes to raving the best states in the nation michigan is number one are you kidding me michigan what's in this again so michigan is number one it is better than the state of florida and they were lamenting that and they were lamenting that in florida house how is that and what they talk about is they specifically raided the state's on all kinds of things like food inventions drink famous people physical beauty that kind of stuff so michigan one florida at the and florida at the hands oh my they did say that the public serb which is the famous super supermarket chain in florida there are sub did win as the country's best i don't know they do have why was there and.
