Team Gallagher: Remember, Many Trump-Backed Candidates Won

"What do you think Yuri about the idea of Donald Trump's announcement tonight as he's expected to officially proclaim he's running in 2024? You hear me? Yeah, I do. I think it's great. You know I'm a big Trump guy. You know, I've been, I was actually the one person in my group of friends that knew Trump was going to win back in 2016. And I made a few key points here that I wanted to touch upon. Sure. I'm on the air right now. Absolutely. Kevin McCullough. You're doing a great job, by the way. You're off to a great start. One, two 19 out of 16. Go back, go back, go back and say that again, because I interrupt you because I don't think you can hear me as clearly as I thought. Go ahead and say what you said again about the vote count. So in this past midterms, Trump endorsed candidates won two 19 to 16. Yep. Two 19 to 16. Also, one key race was Colorado Tennessee. Michael Bennett versus Joe O'Day. Joey was the one explicitly anti Trump Republican running and he lost. Michael Bennett was not a national player. Michael Bennett actually run for president in 2020. And he was the first guy to withdraw out of 27 Democrat candidates running. So if in my opinion, if we had a pro Trump candidate or a regular America first conservative, that seat, that Colorado Senate seat, would still be red. And one more thing, just one last thing, there's a certain push to take Trump out to push Trump out by the establishment wing of the party. They're alternatives. Don't resonate with the base as much.

Why You Should Support Joe O'Dea for Colorado

"So if we're going to fix elections and restore integrity to our election process, Republicans have to be in the majority. It's a chicken versus egg thing. I've got an interesting debate going with a good friend of mine, who's a big Trump supporter and he's maga all the way, and he's against Joe O'Day in Colorado. My colleague, Hugh Hewitt, says Joe O'Day is a great candidate. Joe O'Day is a moderate Republican pro abortion who said he's going to campaign against Donald Trump if Trump wants to win. I mean, wants to run in 2024. Not my idea of a great candidate. He's better than Michael Bennett, the Democrat, we got to have the, we have to have control. And Joe O'Day needs to win in Colorado. And I trust Colorado voters are going to get that. My friend says, nope, might as well go with the Democrat. He's going to be another Liz Cheney. He's going to caucus with the Democrats. What's the point? The point is Republicans will be in the majority. And I completely believe that any Republican is better than any Democrat in 2022. In order to get rid of the rhinos and in order to get rid of election shenanigans, Republicans have to be in control of the House and the Senate in the first place. We've got to be in the majority. Without that, we're doomed.

Student Loan Forgiveness Is a Deadbeat Bail Out

"This student loan debacle has got millions of Americans fuming, angry, angry, angry. I have not yet talked to one person who would admit to supporting this. Called a raw vote buying by The Wall Street Journal reckless by The Washington Post, Tim Bennett, or Michael Bennett in Colorado, Cortez masto in Nevada, Tim Ryan, in Ohio, Democrats are fleeing from the thing because it strikes, well, millions of Americans as highly inequitable as unfair to people who never went to college, people went right to work, people about a truck are tools in the last 5 years to expand their business, make a living, it strikes people who paid off their loan is crazy. People who went to college on the GI Bill after they served four to 6 years in uniform strikes parents who saved and students who worked as completely nuts, it's a dead beat bailout.

"We have a discussion next about what a giant budget bill in Congress would actually do A democratic measure contains so many of the party's priorities that has been hard to discuss It's even harder because the bill keeps changing over time But a version has now passed a house and something similar though not identical could pass the Senate which allows us to get into some of the details of the bill that The White House promotes as its build back better agenda Democratic senator Michael Bennett discussed some of this at a town hall meeting with constituents this week and afterward he joined us from Denver Is it likely that in negotiations you're also going to lose some of the most popular parts of this measure I think for example of an enhanced child tax credit which I believe you favor but Joe Manchin a key democratic senator once an income test that would exclude a lot of families from that tax credit Yeah I don't just favor it I ran an almost completely unnoticed campaign for president on the idea that we could cut childhood poverty almost in half in this country by making three changes to the child tax credit that shared Brown and Cory Booker and Kamala Harris and I reverend Warnock now have proposed and it is now contained in the negotiated Bill The White House has been able to make the full refundability of that tax credit permanent which means that forever millions of the poorest kids in this country are going to have the benefit of the tax credit But the enhanced tax credit is only going to last for a year and we're going to have to fight to make it permanent And I have not so far been able to persuade my friend Joe Manchin that this is actually a pro work measure which I very strongly believe it is because families can use the money for example to pay for child care to be able to stay at work center mansion sees it in a different way And we just have a principle disagreement This is interesting to senator mansion see it as effectively an anti work measure something that gives people money and makes them less likely to get into the workforce That's what he would say he's worried about that And I think that the data shows that that I'm right and that he's less right but but I just have persuaded him of that yet And on the other hand I think it is enormously popular with the American people It's broadly supported by members of the democratic caucus in both the House and the Senate and the leadership as well And Mitt Romney actually has a version of it himself So I have high hopes that at some point this is actually going to become a bipartisan piece of legislation I want to ask about climate change because I know that's a big part of this legislation My broad impression senator is that you can get the votes even some Republican votes for measures to adapt to the effects of climate change or may be work around the edges of climate change but you don't have the votes necessarily to fight climate change in a big way Is that correct Well I think that we have the vote to invest really meaningfully in innovation that's going to lead us down the path of discovering ways to address climate change But you're right there is not for example in this legislation of price on carbon and there is not likely to be a clean electricity standard to measures that I would support and think would push us farther along the curve to address climate change I guess we should just define those things a price on carbon some would call it a carbon tax some kind of cost for producing carbon And when you talk about a clean electricity standard that was the idea that states and different localities would be required basically to produce electricity without producing so much carbon Those things aren't happening That's right You had a listener in this town hall meeting a kind of remote town hall meeting a kind of big conference call who said I come from a cult producing area Colorado of course produces coal and said what's going to happen to people who work in the coal industry of the industry shuts down You know a lot of times I refer to the climate stuff we do in our office as my Craig Colorado project that person was from Craig Colorado an area that's worried because they are likely to lose half their revenue because of coal mines shutting down and because of power plants shutting down And I have long believed that unless we have a meaningful ways for people to transition it's going to be very hard for us to move ahead on climate change But I think the most important thing is to make sure that we're investing in a new economy their discussions in northwest Colorado about the possibility of producing hydrogen there that discussions about how to train young people for the 21st century jobs that are going to be there but it can't just be lip service You know this isn't just about you know a transition on the back end of this It has to be central to what we're doing And it's $27 billion in forestry work which is incredibly important to my region of the country where in Colorado for example had three of the worst fires in our state's history last year as a result of climate change Now we're actually going to be putting money on the landscape in creating jobs doing the forest mitigation and watershed protection up front and that's the kind of thing that I think can begin to create a momentum in rural America for the work that we have to do on climate change I'm really interested hearing you talking about rural Colorado as a senator from a state with a lot of rural voters What did you think about when you saw the election results in Virginia a few weeks ago where Democrats in rural counties did even worse than they have in recent years The trend was very bad I think we have.

"So. That was very difficult for me and You mentioned biologically. Who is this. Incredible asian-american an advocate for asian americans. In theater she is iconic and all the ways positives and she was in the original chorus. Line one hundred percent and boy in talk about a visionary michael bennett and how he just broke. Open all the doors All the doors and started to get the ball rolling. This is where we draw our population. I think that's one of the things. That's so exciting about the union and how to its new holiday you know. They started to take a close look at how their auditions are set up. And there's a lot more all kinds of different people and now they're starting to you know not cast by gender or a whole market has much talk a little bit about that because you you know way more about that as a delegate than i do definitely you'd mentioned by orc and just how does one sustain oneself when you're in a position where perhaps you don't feel like you have a lot of power. Who do you rely on. Who do you call when things are looking a little down. And i will say that having mentors in the business like is one of the most important things in this as somebody who does the arts and so you mentioned that equity is is opening. Its doors that it's one of the most exciting things. I think that has happened in my almost two decades as a union member. Crazy to think about what used to happen for. Those who are less familiar is that to become an equity member. Become an actress equity union member. You used to have to have a contract that offered the thing that allowed you to join the union it was in the producers hands essentially who could become a union member. And there's something about that is seems like it doesn't really empower people to take a stand and say that i want stand solidarity so this change has been so amazing because it really turns the entire thing on its head at it shifts. The wave that people can become members. And now if you are an actor or a stage manager who has worked professionally. I e has been paid for your for your services as an actor or a stage manager. You can take that experience..

"So, um, my freshman year I was in ninth grade in the old building, and I tried out for for vastly baseball cause I like I said, I was the star of getting high school. I tried to provide free baseball and we had and that's when they was able to move. Try out in the gym. So we had trials in the gym. And I'm gonna see it. Now that I'm there. I'm going to mention once in the year that we got into the new building. It was a brand new basketball court. It was and never seen the floor now come in a nice wave and I went to school with a guy named Michael. Better. He was the best basketball player in the city of Boston and early early eighties. I love you ever heard of Michael Bennett, but he went to Boston College. Um, but he was He was He took Boston English to the to the high school championship We played. We went to the Boston Garden, and we played against Catholic Memorial and I tell you, I tell, you know, like Michael Bennett was the first one to do it. 3 60. In the garden in front of on high school friends and we won the championship. I believe it was 83 had to look it up. But that's when Boston English won the championship. Mhm ship is there was much had the launch trailer Michael Planet they had a they had, like five guys that was like Not remainder. I was only the ninth grade. So I was a youngster. And then when, when a nice weighed, the ninth graders had the seniors and the juniors had this thing called initiation. What it was because what school that out? On the endless brought English side. You had 15 MB th buses okay and then went inside when Latin got out, of course, And it's true. They gather they let him out a little later because they couldn't mix it Mix. Because what the scene is in the Junior get to the ninth freshman English They would come down on the bus and beat us up. Okay, so it was called initiation. But I'm talking about 1980 1979. Let's just next to 77 78. So, so that's my experience with boss England now. Unfortunately, I was involved and that there was a judge called Mr Garrity, who introduced Segregated busted in Boston. So I was right in the middle of that, so I live in Dorchester. But remember, I was recruited to go to English, which is a Louis Pastor Avenue. Yeah, And then right now I work at the Children's Hospital 20 years and I go right by loose so that so, For some reason, the city of Boston soldiers soda soda school is still there. But it's a building now. But I have so many memories of Boston English and, of course, back to the English. Latin football game. Isn't that the oldest rivalry in the city or the country? What is this? Correct? Yes, it is, uh, people in need them and Wellesley for whatever reason, feel that their rivalry is older, but we all know it's English versus Martin. Listen and and from then on a nice laid the test grade 11th grade, But you see that nice and the test so when, when does also guarantee introduced busing? They roll up his own. And I picked in this because of that school. I loved it. I was involved, and then they pulled me out of it because my zoning was Dorchester High School. Okay, So now I remember those days and I'm sure Standing might do, Lewis. I gotta let you go because I'm late for a break. I got you, man. I got to listen. I'm gonna have to call them when you need to have another section on the oldest, too. Well, I know less than 1918 30, some very old. I went to my roommate's door to bang on the door. Because because we all know, but I don't want to say 11 other thing before you go, Michael Bennet right now. His his and dying need. He's homeless and it is a panhandler. And if you walk downtown, I'm not saying that they believe them and everything. He's he's one of our brothers and all the numbness. Any time we see Michael Bennett for some reason, he just had bad luck. But he was the best basketball player, endless to the championship. Listen, it's been great talking to you. I would definitely call you again. And I enjoyed my talk, Louis. Thank you very much, Louis. Gotta thank you Break. I promised Steve and Rick I will get to the two of you after we hit these messages. American families received checks in the mail from the federal government payments for the child tax credit. The idea of a family tax credit is not new. What's new is this. The money doesn't show up once a year tax time instead. The government gives some of it in advance in predictable monthly payments and. This can make a very big difference in people's lives. The shift in policy owes a great deal. To senator michael bennett. Democrat from colorado. Bennett is now pushing to make. The changes become permanent. "Other second line by doing it this way. But it does feel like Carl Davis was one of the best 53 players in training camp, right? If you want to put it that way. And it's not just that. I mean, he was getting quality reps. He was represented with the ones he was playing like a guy who's going to make routine. You know, first of all, I think they're going to keep its on a depth here. I think Bill looks at what happened last year. They got run all over. They couldn't stay healthy up front. He's not going to let that happen two years in a row. This is a position where he might keep more depth than he probably needs just because he does sort of over correct with these things at times. That being said, if I'm looking at this group who's the odd man out, it still feels like Henry Anderson's job is an entirely safe. I know Bill gave him, you know, when Atlas asked the question, gave him a glowing review. But he was playing late in the game last night. Late into the game. And he still hasn't entirely shown up on special teams, which everybody on this list outside of maybe Lawrence guy, I think is going to have to end up playing special teams this year. So I have them on. Do you see it right there? I think I had him. And when we're done, we can look at, I don't know if you do this. I do the first three next three. I think I had them on there. I was so tired last night. But yeah, Henry Anderson, I think he's a good player. I'd love to see you make the team. I think he can help the team. The way they're using him, they're using them like a guy who they don't plan on having. It's interesting because Belichick had the effusive praise when Atlas asked him the question as you put it not me. And then he's also practiced really well, right? I mean, I compare notes with Greg bedard when it comes to one on ones and Greg and I both have had Henry Anderson for his fair share of wins in one on one girls, right? One on ones inside 6, two on two. All these types of practice drills with these defensive linemen. Henry Anderson has been extremely solid, right? Extremely solid. And then we come out to these preseason games and he's playing in the fourth quarter of the final preseason game. And you're scratching your head and that's why I asked Bill Belichick the question about Henry Anderson because I'm trying to figure out what's the deal with this guy. And my pinell Michael Bennett to a degree even though he made it a couple of weeks, right? I mean, all these guys, this is not unheard of for the Patriots to sign a veteran defensive lineman and to just not have a workout, right? For whatever reason, the system's present click with the player. And Anderson seemed like such an easy system fit. He seemed like a guy that might pinell. Right. So it's possible that he's cut and maybe the Patriots because as Albert rear reported again this morning, there is a lot of interest in a guy like monterrey as Adams..

"What are, you know, who's your congressman? Is it a Republican or a Democrat? I'm representative by Diana degette. She's been in for over 20 years. She's represented Denver, and she's probably going to continue doing so and home. She decides not to if she Democrat, she is perfect. But yeah, we've got several good Democrats in Colorado. Most of our Congressional Delegation is Democrat. Look up. The midterms are going to be tough for everyone. Okay, it just historically, they're very, they're very difficult. I mean, we remember that Michael Steele was able to orchestrate a republican Takeover in 2010 life, you know, as a blow back to Barack Obama, who quite frankly did some landmark things in the short period of time that he had, you know, friendly Chambers. So, you know, if you're out there, what we need to start doing now is the thing that always beats back this type of Oppression organizing and I know it sounds corny, but it's controlling your neighbors. It's getting involved. It's becoming a Precinct committee. Person is writing postcards knocking, doors dropping lit, sending text messages doing all of that, Grassroots work. It actually works. It actually reaches people, and convince job. Them. Most people would rather hear who they should vote for or why they should vote for that person from a trusted neighbor that from any other source, right? So you can actually be stronger than Sean Hannity show. All you got to do is go talk to your neighbors. And yeah, it's a pain, but I, I'm a movie guy to American easy folks. You gotta want it bad. Right? And so, you know, that's what it is, and we gotta work for it. And it's not like you win an election and it's over. It's a marathon not a Sprint. Yeah. Well, I mean, I mean, at least you guys I'm in Colorado. Who's your senators are? They are the Democrats or the Republicans? Yeah. We've got Michael Bennett and John Hickenlooper. All the Democrats. Yeah, they're Democrats. You. Okay. Colorado is a blue State. We've got a Democratic governor Democratic AG Democratic Treasurer, Democratic Secretary of State. Thank goodness, or they would have tried to steal the election and we have two Democratic senators and out of our Congressional Delegation. "I think it was amazing. When they actually got to the point the beginning of twenty seventeen of having the house and the senate and of course trump in the white house and moving on. Repealing it that a even then. They couldn't repeal it and be that they never ever came up with a replacement. It really is one of these stunning things politics. I don't know you know. Bama would always say if you've got a better plan to do all this then i'm open to it but this is the plan we came up with so until you have something else is all we've got. I'm not sure obama's right. I'm not a healthcare expert. But it's strange that seoul much time would have gone. It's ten years. The republicans have come up with no even basic plan of what it is. I'm not a healthcare expert. But i went through the process of you know crafting. That thing with everybody got a little bit late. I was the sixty vote by the way arlen. Specter wasn't the sixtieth vote. Which you right. I was the six. Th that's fair that's true okay. I'm gonna correct that for the paperback. But i i have to tell you a funny arlen story so baucus was trying to get this. Bipartisan deal done right. And he had this gang of six with three republicans which was grassley snow and enzi and he would come to the caucus launch and just report on the progress or lack of progress or the reverse of progress and but he kept thinking we were going to get a bipartisan. Deal and this went on for two and a half months finally one day after we're waiting and waiting waiting for comes by birth and he shows up any finally goes well. I've concluded that they never had any intention of doing a bipartisan deal. And arlen specter says. Why could've told you that. And i said arlen. Then why didn't you and what it is that he just ignored me which was a lot of what arlen due to people. But it's amazing but this brings me to the campaign which is you write about sanders. Basically getting all the liberals who intending to run for president to sign on a single payer right. Yep except i don't think closure did right well and if we're counting all the senators who ran for president. Michael bennett didn't either. But neither the bennett was not planning to run at that point. I also think he never would have signed on and club Was like sort of thinking about running but it wasn't a very serious. It wasn't as serious as the others. For example kamala harris who was gung ho. I was going nuts at these early debates. Because they're spending. I don't know fifteen twenty minutes on single payer. And i'm watching this. I'm going like this is crazy because we won those forty one purple districts because those people saw what the aca was and like debt and they like that their pre existing conditions recovered. They they saw that healthcare was complicated as trump. He said who knew was conflict was complicated. You idiot but anyway so the the suburban women who voted for democrats and flip the house and got us forty one seats. They didn't want single payer..

"That's became metcalf and is in a contract year right is the salary cap explodes in his mind. I am sure he thinks. I'm the greatest in the game. Julio has slowed down new cop gins isn't what it used to be. I'm i'm a number one of number once. And i want the ball. I want to showcase that and we watched that persona grow in confidence really over the second half of last year to even in the playoffs so i will be very curious to keep an eye on as well as a lot for this new guy to balance. I'm sure you had to deal with a lot of the same things at bbn. An so. i. I know he's got a lot of that history built in and how to handle really didn't have to deal with the ram difficult personalities. No those guys right there guys all block. And you don't have number one number one's and we'll just show at quarterback stunk come in like there wasn't that much of that robert woods and kupa cup and those guys getting bunched blocked linebackers and safeties. And they're totally selfless. And we'll do whatever's asked and decays certainly soup unselfish and tyler is as well but decay in particular wants touches. Contract ear wants to be paid as the best receiver in the game wants to show that he can be that. So yeah. I think you add his voice right in between pete and russell as well all right number two storylines. We're watching heading into training camp speaking of contracts. This is gonna be the biggest. This'll be the first thing we're talking about. That's jamal adams has contract his leadership. And i think his performance on the field. What he ends up bringing to the table. Let's be honest brock. They gave up more to get this guy than anyone in their tenure right. That's how highly they thought of jamal adams and how much they needed them. They had to know the contract. Fight was coming right. And if they don't sign him someone should get fired. I think it's very if you've done all of that trade at all that for him and then you don't sign him and he walks away or whatever that's like a fireable offense so they're going to sign him we all know. This is the case. There are some a little bit of positive news. Right now. Tweet from justin anderson earlier today one sources opinion this morning on the jamal adams hashtag seahawks contract situation quote. We are hopeful that the contract will get done soon. He's in town. A lot was given up to get him. I feel there's love on both sides. Yeah we'll see physicals this morning followed by teaming as it should be right but if they want is leadership to factor in which you know allegedly was one of the reasons they traded more. I'm going to get this done like a sap right. Yes and if you do. Will we see him. You're absolutely right. The hawks pay to king's ransom for him and it wasn't just for the football player. It's for the persona. It's for the edge. You remember those training camps early on we go out there. I mean richard. Coin ducks face right. Michael bennett in and in read or over the catering over the that was i mean it was violent. It was loud right. It was kam chancellor just just just patrolling and prowling the the the in run towards the silently by oh nelson cruz in. Kyle's batting cage. Oh man these guys are ferocious and then they moved on and do you remember how quiet it was to thompson and crew. Remember a quiet in the absence of richard earl and those guys right that. That's not bobby. Bobby isn't loud. He's not all of those things. It got quiet out there in the pri- uncomforably so and i think i said that more than time or to salt like man you know. Trey flowers tetra thompson. I mean we're. Where's the juice where where's the energy michael. Bennett's where's where's the de lyon that's just like yeah killing killing these guys and i like what you wrote to to me brooke last night. You said that great. You hear great. Defenses before you see them. That's a really do. I think it's a really good at edge and something. I'm going to try to remember. I think that's a great way of putting it. That's why you got jamal adams so that you would not just feel him which should which is important but hear him he he brings some of that exact mentality swag energy that you were talking about so get them get them happy. Get them in camp. Or you're wasting part of the reason you were willing to give up so much. Because he is flawed. He's not a perfect football player. And what we see him you you ask that right. I think the tuesday's a pretty significant day. you know. i love injuries and the son of a coach. After all there've been some big moments of percy harbin's hip and everything else and tuesday's physicals. This guy is significant shoulder. Surgery finger surgery right is. Is he going to be even able to participate in camp right. Are we gonna even see him on. The field of that contract gets done right. How much of that presence are we going to feel much of that noise. We actually going to hear or is this going to be shoot man. We're going to have to wait until week one. And they're going to have to manage him all the way through training camp with some of these other so yeah. That thirty three is man. Yeah i know it's not storyline number one but it should be one because it is significant. Absolutely right i mean you know. I think you have to be monitoring him when is. When is the contract on kenny play. Can he be healthy. And then once he does how does he handle the fact that the other teams may game plan for him this year. You know what nine half sack's last year. They're going to pay attention to that. It's not like teams. Aren't gonna notice that that occurred. And so can he cover kenny force. Turnovers can do some of the things that this team is going to catch with a healthy shoulder and fingers. I would be helpful. It certainly would if he could catch so yeah throw all that together brock. And i you get a really interesting conversation there. That will certainly be watching regarding jamal adams right a story line number three of kind of order as of these next these kind of going any order but are any of these. Young draft picks going to become something beyond their expectation or even reach it. We're going on a few years here. Man where you really need. Since you know we've had decay obviously other than decay metcalf schneider's hit rate with early. Picks has been pretty rough for awhile. And so. I got a group of guys that i think these are all i first through third rounds that your starters if not pro bowlers if not difference makers jordan brooks daryl taylor l. j. collier marquees blair regime green all first through third rounders. Mine named noticeably absent. there rashad penny. I was just looking on the defense. Oh wait a minute. I was just the defense on the other side of the ball. You're looking at penny s krige etc. So i was just looking at defense. I'm not leaving penny out. Br i mean that's what two four six seven average. We'll wait and see it's not like he's underperformed yet. But that's six guys that you're pointing at and saying your first through third round. I left i left. Will d'isly off this list because i think he was a fourth fourth rounder. But he's another one where kind of big expectations and we've seen some of the promise and just unfortunately last year never quite delivered up to what we were kind of hoping from so i would put him on this list but he's not a first through third rounder. I mean really. You're looking at decay metcalf in an incredible success story. And you're pointing at damian lewis. Who was a pretty good success. A third rounder last year on the law and the offensive line..

"And 14 degrees any day over this cool summer day. I'm not down with this. Want some heat in the summertime? I don't like these clouds. What's going on here? It's like everything's turned upside down. Okay, Glad you're with us this afternoon. As you just heard in Erin's newscast. Richard Sherman has a court appearance that he could do in person or just send in attorney to 30. This afternoon, which ties right in with today's top story, the big lead top story and I'm going to talk about this in depth at 12 30 this afternoon. But a lot of people were asking. Why did you play that 911 call? We We were the first to obtain the wife's 911 call yesterday and there are a lot of reasons or go in depth at 12 30, but there are so many issues. Going on here and one is You know these these athletes who are telling us how we need to think that we should live our lives. They are mandating the pro sports leagues reflect a far leftist. Mentality, and they have the little slogans that they paint on the football field in the basketball court and all of that, because they're going to tell us how we should think and feel about the world. But you know, with with this this Richard Sherman incident yesterday it illustrates. That there are so many systemic problems within the group of people who are telling us how we should live our lives that we should think. And you know, you look at the Seahawks Legion of Boom. The For defensive backs that the Richard Sherman incident yesterday. A couple of years ago, Earl Thomas was with a mistress, and he was chased around a vehicle by his wife. Who had a gun as she had tracked his location. Brandon Browner. He's serving eight years in prison for attempted murder and two counts of child cruelty. I Before they tell us How we should live our and I'll give you lots of lots of other examples. Chad Wheeler. It was just, you know, little known Seattle Seahawks. But he, uh he Almost killed his girlfriend a few months ago. Uh, Michael Ban. It has a very bright guy. Richard Sherman is a very bright guy Michael Bennett, who lied about police brutality in Las Vegas. There are some real systemic problems here, and they should clean up their own house before they tell us how we should think and feel about everything but tremendous controversy. I found out because we aired that 911 call yesterday and there was another subject that came out of that 911 call. The generated an awful more than the Richard Sherman involvement. It was the way the call was handled up.

That was a decision. I may not make the money back. I'm spending on it but it's getting me notice. That's what i would do with some of these. If i was a small show or something like that. Yeah because they know those guys who promoted on their social media plan and that's why again. I'm learning this as a positive. I hope he doesn't take this criticism. That's why i would do it. If i was michael bennett. Yeah it's eight o'clock in the morning. I'm trying to get regular listeners. Let's have will let us every monday. After the game i could see doing. I don't know how many followers they have. Both allen may have more than we'll let us do you go after the guy that's got the most social who your depends on who your who. Your audience is okay so radio show listeners. Now we're our shows kind of an exception for this but most radio shows are listened to by older people. being on twitter doesn't necessarily reach them. This reaches middle aged people in kids right. So is that who you're marketing to. I don't know. I'd want the player with the biggest face. If i want old people. I want to play with because facebook page. Yeah right right. Yeah player going on talk saying. Listen to michael bennett show. I don't think anyone is going to put the phone down and go listen to my about if i'm trying like there's a new bar come. There's a new like electric dance. Music place right. That's coming clubhouse that's going to be next to edm. It's going to be on campus. My audience for that is going to be college kids. So i'm gonna pay a college kid to talk about. Edm on thanh right. That's what i'm gonna do. If i'm that so we'll see it's going to be very interesting to watch. I don't know what will happen. But we'll see. I'm excited to see all the wealthy spin what they're what they're spending spin it into a tax write off or what if say. I'm a wealthy dude. And i want to send five thousand dante allen. T shirts to place with need can kentucky that while helping out dot allen i know alabama football georgia football tennessee football. I know they have people to do that. Do we kentucky. Do we have enough rich fans who will just overpay at a business loss because they love the team truthfully for basketball. They will football for football to. There's some but not as many for basketball. It's funny. I don't know who you like when you say that do you have. Don't say it online but do you have names in mind. Yes you do see i. I don't know who the people i can think of a couple. But i don't feel like i can think of as many as maybe you dea for basketball. You think there are for football. Yeah i mean it's not going to compete with alabama but there are people who gladly throw money that way to help those players out. Help the program. Well listen i think this is. "That's worth but like i'm not paying for that like you're making the money on your own. You know what i mean. That's a tradeoff we'll provide you the spot for you to make money crowd and the built in crab. That's where it makes sense for us. But like if i was a business do i do i think it would be. I don't know. I don't know if it would work. People are going to try. I hope it does work out. All these kids make a lot of money and just think. I don't think it's going to be what people think. But i do think some kids are going to be worth a lot. Oh yeah but you know. I 'cause i've thought a lot about this. I mean i don't wanna be behind on it like you know if i but let us using one of these guys is like a spot like a talent like to say come to chaos bar. Was that going to make that much difference to be honest for our show. No we thought there might be places in town. It would yes. Yeah let's get another one. Let's say larry radio show that he does in danville. I think that can help. Yeah somebody that come and be on your show promote his show on social media. I'm surprised my. I'm being dead serious. I'm surprised michael bennett hadn't done it. you know. I thought mike. If i was michael minute. I'd do it. If i was michael bennett and i could say i'm gonna get will lettuce to come and be on the monday morning quarterback he's got the cast overpay. Yeah i actually think that would make sense for michael billing but i just think the options are going to be like. I could not believe that there was a radio show that was going to spend twenty five thousand dollars on a weekly guest. I just don't know how you make that back. How you making that back. And i bet these coaches are going to have you know when players do. Do these paid media appearances. They're going to still have control over what they're saying. I don't think you're gonna get all the ins and outs of what's going on in the lobbies who expect i mean that's another thing. Okay let's be real. Can we all be honest. How many times while they're still playing kentucky or even before they came to kentucky. Did someone say something in an interview. That was amazing. Now we've had some great interviews when they're done and they don't have to worry about it but how many times have you heard on this show or any show an interview with the player that was like oh can't believe they said that doesn't exist because they have to go back to that locker room and they're coach is going to be sitting there waiting. Say what would you say today. And they got a little before the interview and that's why boogie would have been the one because he wouldn't he he's gonna lead you say was a loose cannon and count new. You couldn't control that So do your thing. So can you think of anybody on this basketball roster or football roster. You'd be willing to do that with to pay them to come on the show. Pay twenty five dollars to. But would i be willing to pay money. That would make them want to do it. No you can take more than one hundred show. Four or five hundred. I mean. I don't know i don't but i to be quite frankly i don't even know if i would pay one hundred dollars. What i would do is every single member of that team. I would offer this space. And say see if i were the basketball team..

Thank you that that that's OK. Always good to hear from you, man. So I guess when you get a lifetime contract that could dictate your behavior, Uh, what you will or won't do? He's right. Don't Michael, Look, you can't replace Cal Perry UK. It's It's almost there. Is somebody more perfect for that. Now everybody is replaceable. I totally disagree with all right. What's the record this year? Yeah. Five. And 10. What is the record? 4? 10 4 10. I think you can. I think you find another coach that could get you to foreign dance. Oh, Michael, Here's you. Here's. The frustrating thing is that we see coaches contracts. We see nine million a year. And you'll see 200,000 in base salary and $8,800,000 in media commitments. And then you skip the media commitments. Yeah, listen, I kind of maybe going a little too far last night on Twitter because I did say that I said, Listen, we have the highest paid coach in the land, and he doesn't answer all the media's questions. And it's really gotten to the point where it's frustrating. And now we skipping on and only guaranteeing he'll only be at one of the media conferences during the week, and it's like, what the heck's going on. Is he turning into the Johnny Carson of basketball? I mean, what's going on Right reference. Great reference. I remember the in Carson would be on maybe Three days a month. Rush was Shandling and knocking, I know. Yeah, okay, trying to get sidetracked because I definitely don't want to talk about this. But Rick hears it wouldn't know what the problem is. The problem is, it's two things to fold. Tony Eyes. The fact that they can't get the ball in the basket. That's that's one of them. And then the other one. I mean, if you if you go look it Kenpom. On. I think it's a great reference, if you if you anybody else there wants to go subscribe to Oh, that's a great one toe purchase right there. Campana calm and you look at their turnover ratio and their percentage It's 21 a game 21%. I mean, that's pretty bad. Right there in itself. Yeah, Michael, I've seen these stats and everyone. Oh, my God. You know you have l u k have each side has their own stat. People that always put stuff up. Oh, they're undefeated when they score 75 or 72 points or more, And it's like all really Okay. So like the magic number, 72. It's like okay. S Oh, you mean when they shoot the ball, and it goes in the basket where you're talking about when they score pit? You mean when they like when they score points? They win the game. Oh, thank you for that, Mr. Stand person. Um, you know, you know, the funny part is that same person is always saying Well, you know, it's the lack of being able to put the right people on the floor. It's like, wait a minute. How about people on the floor that can put points on the scoreboard? Okay, That's all it takes that forget about the rotation or any other kind of cramp. Let's get back to knots and answering questions. It is frustrated David I for Maura than a decade and going back to Rick Pitino and other coaches in the area that They act like Children. They're one person when they win, and they're they're They're just a grumpy S O. B when they lose if they show up for their press conferences, right? Are we talking about Mike? She chef ski or we talking about Cal Perry. Either way, it's like you ask your kids to have a certain amount of integrity. And act like you've been there before. That's the well, we We teach our kids here to be young men and women, and this is what we want them and we expect them to do. But then they act like Children after a loss, and it's just like That's the most frustrating part for me, and then it's in the Oval was famous for under the last administration of letting the football and basketball coach is off the hook after after losses are losing streak going and going down to the even the coaches, shows who are like Well, coach is gonna be here for his coaches show We got the two assistants and two players. It's like you're you're holding up two players to replace the coach That's getting paid millions of dollars. It's frustrating. Just stand there and answer to the music. Michael Well, it only was going to be one more person to ask a question last night. Just one more media member. Do you want to know who that next media member was going to be? And then count looks down and says, You know, this is my last question. I got to go catch a bus. Mm hmm. It was me. It was. Yeah, It was only one more person that wanted to ask a question. And, you know, maybe it's I'm kind of emphasizing me a little too much. What was your question going to be? You had it in the holster. You had it in the trigger about to pull it. Let me guess. Let me guess he was gonna ask. Sammy Hagar. David Lee wrong? No. First it is coach Now, First of all, we love you. And you know more about basketball than I've never gonna know. Now they listen. Now I know where you live. You better watch out. So you know the funny part Like Calipari. I won't answer the doors. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. No, listen to me, And I'm kind of afraid to tell you what my question was, because what was the question? But the hair? No, the more right to the more I talk about the questions, the more that you don't allow me to ask the question. I wanted to ask, Uh, Devon, ask you had all of two points. And that came at the very end of the game. And I said that this morning on the show just the cattle Shan of the dude. On. It feels like I'm picking on Devon. It's not the case. The reality is Devon ask you is really struggling the last few games and I think Shannon put up the stats this morning. Uh, it's been like 57 minutes. He's played. He's only scored two points, so my question was going to be a cow. It seems like you're playing Devin and awful lot in May I ask with with only scoring two points in the ball game. How does he warned all this time on the floor and we love you, by the way. Oh, it wasn't when Dave's not on the show. Next time I'll do it with you all. Okay, but the one thing I can't stand anymore is they're young. They're young. You know what if you're a coach that usually has The veteran team and through attrition and through whatever you find yourself with a bunch of freshmen, that coach may not be able to deal with it so easily. But that's all this guy does his place Freshman. It's okay but again when you're talking about the coach, who their biggest date of the year is the NBA draft date. Yeah, Of course. They're gonna be young. That's that's because you're gonna that's a problem. I think the rhetoric is growing, especially when you lose on losing is a disease. That's my favorite quote from the movie, The natural Robert Redford. Losing is a disease and it is because the disease is now transpiring over to the fan base, and they're just losing their minds and the rhetoric From Cal is getting kind of weary. Let's just say they're growing tired of it. It's like yes, they're young every year. Yes, we have code. We all do. Every team has covert issues. Don't tell me this anymore. And Mike. They've lost their swagger. I mean, in a game at Alabama, Kentucky would trot in there. It's Alabama Super Bowl and you know they've got that that that and they're going to find a way to win the game. You watch this Kentucky team when you say they're going to find a way to lose this game, yes, very much, And you saw that with the last I think was the last three minutes. Kentucky was up by one or two points, and then it's almost like they went into panic mode..

Concerns about staffing have been eased as Washington, DC sees surge in poll volunteers

"All eyes on campaign 2020 nationwide and here in DC every registered voter will be mailed a ballad and vote centers and early voting sites will be opened as well. There were some concerns about staffing, but those concerns have been resolved. We're really feeling pretty good. Michael Bennett, his chair of the D. C Board of elections, We are currently at about 1400 persons already trained. Also, 3000 applications for poll workers are still being processed in those numbers don't include returning poll workers who don't need training. That's good news since the city needs just under 4000 poll workers this election, Bennett says he's noticed many younger people in their twenties and thirties, stepping up to help this as many older volunteers sit this election out due to the Corona virus. He still urges volunteers this amid application since others can drop out last minute. We certainly found out when the pandemic hit full force in March, the city's mayor, also offering 2000 D. Federal judge rules New York must hold June primary canceled over coronavirus risks

"Race Andrew Yang strikes again well there's an old timey name you haven't heard the inter Yang yeah no Yang is a disruptive force in the Democratic Party at least this week he is because remember New York state and its board of elections had canceled their democratic primary for June twenty third and said not we're not gonna have it anymore we've got Joe Biden don't worry about it and for the health and safety of our people are not gonna have this and that was widely seen as something of a coup attempt because Bernie Sanders made it really clear when he quote endorsed Joe Biden but he still wants his own voters to vote for him even though he's out of the race another reason for that is because he wants to crude delegate delegate strength by the time he shows up at the convention whatever form that takes but the democratic convention if he's gotten a lot of delegates behind him he can use that to advance the more socialist elements of the democratic platform that he's interested in seeing and then that's why Bernie was doing that so in New York it was believed that this was an effort to basically say never out we're not going to participate in this game we're just gonna try to get as many delegates as we can over to Joe Biden and Bernie you can go home but what ended up happening yesterday thank Dan thanks Dan regarding a lawsuit he filed he's a federal judge ruled that New York must go forward with its presidential primary the judge U. S. district judge Anil Lisa Torah's of Manhattan made the ruling yesterday evening that they will hold the primary in June and that tore as ruled in favor of Yang and the lawsuit as it was filed by young's office and the young lawyers said this quote this unprecedented and unwarranted move infringes the rights of plaintiffs and all New York state Democratic Party voters of which are estimated to be more than six million as it is fundamentally denies them the right to choose our next candidate for the office of president of the United States the court agreeing there and saying that this that the removing that Alexion merry was unconstitutional interesting that inter Yang we get involved in this the old Yang gang has not broken up they got the gang back together looks like that's right interesting I guess he's a he's a Bernie bro now I guess he's making it known that he is part of the resistance within the Democratic Party with this little move either that or he just likes getting votes you know he's like he still has his name on the ballot again alongside a bunch of other people you realize this you about this June twenty third ballot will include Yang Sanders Warren and Michael Bennett Amy Klobuchar Tulsi Gabbard Michael Bloomberg digest of all Patrick Tom's tire all their names are gonna show up on that ballot in New York in June and that every I released a statement yesterday said quote I'm glad that a federal judge agreed that depriving millions of new Yorkers of the right to vote was wrong I hope the New York board of elections takes from this ruling a new found appreciation of their role in safeguarding our

The state of the Democratic primary race

"With the New Hampshire primary in the rear view mirror the democratic contest for the presidential nomination shifts west and south with Nevada being the next day to vote followed by South Carolina he can be the senior editor for politics and government Scot Shafer is here to talk about the state of the race and California is a role in it hi Scott Hey Nina so New Hampshire often clarifies the front runners but to what extent if that happened last night Bernie Sanders well it did clarify things but not as much as I would say is it does usually so yes Bernie Sanders people to judge clearly the top tier they're now essentially tied coming out of Iowa and New Hampshire in delegates it really put of course former vice president Joe Biden came in fifth he's really on the ropes and was with war and kind of a surprise her neighboring state she's from Massachusetts she came in fourth place behind Amy club which are so her campaign is a little bit on red alert I would save and it it definitely New Hampshire gave a new life to Amy club which are and we did see three candidates drop out and Yang senator Bennett for Michael Bennett from Colorado and of all Patrick the former governor of Massachusetts I'm not sure many people knew that they were even running but they are now out so in that sense it does narrow the field at the criticism of both Iowa and New Hampshire having so much influence in the races that they're overwhelmingly white the next few contests will be in more racially diverse state Scott so what does that mean for the various candidates well it means a lot I mean Bernie Sanders he is you know really the front runner right now he does quite well with Latinos he does reasonably well with African Americans but he's the only one in that top three from last night they can say that both booted judging Amy club which are of really really struggle to get any traction at all with African Americans and Latinos so now moving into these more diverse states they really got their work cut out for them Biden he's been really held up by African American voters but the question now is with you know two very weak for initiatives in the first two contests are they gonna stick with him or they gonna look at other candidates and if so you know who does that benefit Tom Stiers is kind of making a move in South Carolina he's been spending a lot of money there on the air waves and he's doing reasonably well with African Americans and then of course you've got waiting in the wings Mike Bloomberg who is also spending a lot of money not in the first four contests become super Tuesday he's gonna be a big player there as well well what do the results of New Hampshire and Iowa mean for the importance of California's March third primary well California has been like pining for relevance and I think finally this year we're going to have it I mean just to give you some context California has four hundred and ninety four delegates to up for grabs that is compared to New Hampshire which had twenty four to twenty times more delegates just here in California we're part of super Tuesday which includes states like Texas Virginia Colorado and Bernie Sanders is really well positioned here he's got a lot of union support he's got a great field operation he's got a lot of money but you also have Michael Bloomberg really poise for the first time on super Tuesday to make a splash he's spending tons of money on television he's got field offices and not just the usual places like Los Angeles and San Francisco but also stocked in Fresno riverside so he could be a factor as well you know California is now have fifteen million ballots that have been mailed out to them and the question is are they going to mail them in soon or are they going to kind of sit on them and wait and see who's left they don't wanna you know voters never want to vote for somebody who's dropped out of the race so you know they think California's really want to have their voice heard this time

Analysis Sanders gets narrow New Hampshire win

"The argument making over the court last year in an expanded base there are many more candidates running then we're in twenty fifteen the reality is that he has so far struggled to do that in terms of numbers so would you say that he might actually be people are judging Amy called chart for the winter is coming out of New Hampshire hoping that you can get the momentum from big surprise third place that nobody would have thought two weeks ago she had any job of doing that and that is certainly the way that you tried in the but what that ultimately come down to be on the vote count is too big momentum which all three of the top three finishers are up and down and delegate and it looks like it will be pretty much a time delegate Joe Biden's and he knew about this result in fifth place and went on to South Carolina to campaign is South Carolina Joe Biden's last stand we will be hoping that it is not but he has before that in about a car coming up on the twenty Caroline and it goes right into super Tuesday the Tuesday right afterwards on March third so that the very complicated and huge number of weeks for the right to Jenna dropped out Andrew Yang and Michael Bennett Yang was an attention getter I don't have to tell you what did he tell you personally about his role going forward does he look to be somebody running mate or does he look to be an advocate in some way eight out of the city of activating order Hanggang maybe running for president maybe even running for mayor of New York or serving in the administration of a Democrat who might win you want to be very active in the campaign he hopes to really be committed to meeting downtown but he is clearly aware of how much he is touched off and the support that he's generated out of the country and not want to see that and with the end since the Atlantic's Edward Isaac deal there who has a new interview right now with entry Yang who just dropped out of the democratic presidential race looking there were

Democratic race starts in earnest with Iowa caucuses

"Let's go to Ohio what since you're just talking about Iowa in Iowa I've never been Iowa yeah I've actually gone to the caucuses I went in twenty sixteen okay how are they fascinating really totally fascinating it's because I ones by and large I was just talking to somebody last night his parents live in Iowa they know everything about politics they said they study they do would really seriously they study all the candidates they they know the intricacies of the policies and the differences between them and the other their consulate kicking the tires I get to meet a lot of the candidates is really fascinating to watch and by the time they make it a caucus night where you have to sit there and you watch like a pep rally essentially we a series of speeches are given by surrogate for the candidates who will give up and give like in a two minute speeches or whatever to try and convince the room to support them and in the democratic caucus what they do by the end of it they just got they'll stand in corners of the room as a mass of people to show you who they support and if you don't reach a fifteen percent threshold tonight you've got to pick another candidate you got to go to can't with more support so if your candidate fails three fifteen percent in that room move your massive people somewhere else one now and how long does this take what is this all start when did when did the games begin eight o'clock tonight and so they that kind of time to go at eight o'clock tonight I get it and then stand there and be involved in this for hours with under the get to bed the ida B. you got to be an adult I don't think I think you can bring your kids if you want but it's eighteen or older have to it you know loading loading age yeah and you go and you just do you pick a candidate it's really it's really neat honestly I it's one of the most fascinating political things I've ever sent all right well we know that Bernie Sanders is leading in Iowa and New Hampshire he has taken the lead in both of those states which is interesting considering that he has been kept in Washington DC with Elizabeth Warren and Amy clover charm Michael Bennett during the impeachment trial her trial where is Joe Biden has been out on the campaign trail and a lot of people have seen I've been saying this all along they're doing this to hose Bernie the reason close he held on to those impeachment articles I firmly believe is because she wanted a hose Bernie she is she did not wish you want to give by now a little bit of a boost a little bit of an edge and we joked about them doing everything by carrying him you know on their shoulders over the line if she's clearly out to get him and she she since she was even saying in a newspaper interview this weekend this out to the South Florida sun Sentinel is that she is very nervous about how progress of these candidates are how left left wing they are even her she said as a San Francisco liberal she says what are you thinking in terms of like government run health care she's like Nancy Pelosi speaking out against government run healthcare woman who was behind obamacare yes the woman who's a probably walked with the with the not valid you know down down the street you know you know she was so proud of you barely had right hold on to it yes to the woman who was behind that the government take over a darker the woman who didn't read the bill zero eight all right so in South Carolina though so Bernie's guy Iowa New Hampshire wrapped up in South Carolina of course Biden leading by thirty one points right no wait yes it's happening in South Carolina what's happening at one point a Biden Joe by misleading as much as thirty one percentage points in South Carolina he now only holds a five point lead over Bernie Sanders this is wild it's crazy that that that's it that is big news it's huge it this is the latest post and career change research poll which is a local South Carolina so it's of no local paper in South Carolina and Biden is at twenty five percent Sanders is at twenty now what's interesting is guess was in third place place there visit Bloomberg no Tom style the other billion Tom Stoddard believe it or not is in third place he has made to South Carolina priority in he's spent a boatload of money in in that state with advertising right and now he is it eighteen percent so he's only two percentage points behind Sanders St amazing it's crazy Elizabeth Warren is a fourth at eleven percent body judges at seven percent I know other Democrat is polling above three percent in South Carolina and ten percent of voters have no no pack ten percent of voters have no pack in South Carolina well I think I mean if your campaign and you're about to roll through Iowa New Hampshire you're looking at the South Carolina numbers and saying ten percent have no choice yet here's my opportunity yep no challenger to buy no has pulled up more than twenty percent you know Bernie Sanders may do that he only has a five point lead over burnt over Bernie Sanders what's happening I I know someone who's big huge very supporter yeah and I go out it will go back and forth it is a very friendly conversation but I have to tell you there and she's just dumb as a rock and I hate to say that but it's true and I have to say like one just so much more to but there's a disconnect in her brain were you can put the facts out there and put links to articles about certain things yes and she just thinks that she's just gonna save more money by the government taking it off sure it's it's a weird the weirdest thing here's a here's my problem with Bernie supporters is that it's the socialism and but the socialism particularly it's a weird thing the critique from the socialists from Bernie Sanders is vis gross concentrations of power lead to corruption what they're going to prison where they could have with the gross concentration of power going to consume into the governor exactly so what they'll do is they'll say they they basically attack gross concentrations of power which lead to corruption and I think that diamond is is right on course concentrations of power do lead to corruption so they're gonna make the government corrupt they're just gonna bring in more money and in the end what is that too it never results in better government it always results in more hands being plunged into that pot and people being explored yeah well she struck the cool a big time so Joe Biden receives thirty percent backing from black South Carolina voters gets his number two in support among African Americans in South Carolina among African American in South Carolina I'm sorry yes wow Tom dire I he has been he has been visiting here is a large black populations hiring blacks staffers he's a twenty four percent of following Joe Biden's thirty percent backing among black voters and then sixteen percent Sanders at sixteen percent and worn a ten percent chance of courses at two percent a boy meanwhile our media doesn't even pay any attention to

Senate defeats motion to call witnesses in Trump impeachment trial

"A fifty one forty nine split. The Senate has blocked emotion to subpoena new witnesses in the impeachment trial. The trial is now in recess. Senator Susan Susan Collins and Mitt Romney were the only Republicans to cross party lines and vote in favor of hearing witnesses. After days of arguments and questions from senators a vote on whether to acquit president trump is still outstanding to discuss where things go from here as Wall Street Journal reporter Natalie Andrews from the capital Natalie. Now that this motion the Senate has failed to pass. What's next Senate leader Mitch? McConnell and Chuck Schumer are working to negotiate some sort of resolution to end and the trial would democrats have power right now. They have leverage to bring in a lot of motions which could result in a late Friday nights and given the partisan nature of the Senate. Most of the motions aren't likely to pass so Mitch. McConnell is trying to negotiate a deal that gives Democrats something they want on timing and also oh results in Democrats yielding. Maybe on the floor control that they that the resolution gives them Hong Timeframe. Are we talking about potentially aides. It's around the Senate and senators themselves seemed to be thinking that the trial will end on Wednesday. The schedule that has kind of been pitched to them would be that Monday in Tuesday could be speeches. The senators could give up about the trial on the floor and then the final vote could be Wednesday but that is not set again. That is why the leaders are shading. Isn't the mood likely to become more partisan than ever. Now that this vote has been taken again. It was very interesting to see the reasoning of that. A lot of senators put out about why they opposed the witnesses. Senators like we. We him Kawasaki. Who is considered an unknown possible? Swing vote. She said that she didn't have confidence. That Congress could give the president of fair trial so she was was voting to end the trial early by not voting to bring in new witnesses and information. She's a member of Congress so for her to acknowledge that Congress can't give the president a fair trial. It's striking Republican. Senators have acknowledged. The president has done some wrong. Doing but say the impeachment will be harmful for the country or that. The offense doesn't rise missile of impeachment. So certainly the reasons that we're seeing on. Why Republicans want to end? This trial are broad and speak to the partisan. Addison divides in the country out of the timing work. And all this there are a lot of things happening over the next week What were the state of the Union speech and campaigning? Having vote on Wednesday means that you could break in Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders Mea Culpa. Michael Bennett all presidential candidates will probably go to Iowa this weekend and campaign. Because they're looking at the Iowa caucuses on Monday and then you would have Donald. Trump's stated union speech each which is scheduled for Tuesday and then acquittal. Vote or vote that will likely end in acquittal of the president on Wednesday so pretty big weaken American politics next week. We're looking at

How will Trump's impeachment affect November elections?

"Even as the Senate impeachment trial is set to get underway president Donald Trump touts his economic success while at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday he said that the US has regained its edge against other nations in areas like trade job creation and energy when I spoke at this forum two years ago I told you that we had launched the great American come back today I'm proud to declare that the United States is in the midst of an economic boom the likes of which the world has never seen before Rick Davis we were talking earlier about all the other things going on in addition to impeachment the the broad expectation is that president trump will not be convicted he will stay in office finish out his term with all that being said the presidential election coming up what is the game here what are the Democrats to take it from that perspective hoping trying to accomplish here well I do think there's a element of trying to change the narrative trump just had a big success signing a trade deal with China that he said he was gonna bring China to their knees and arguably he can he can declare some success and the ratification even in the midst of all this impeachment of the U. S. M. C. A. the trade deal between Canada and US it's quite a feather in his cap I mean he's gonna have a signing ceremony while impeachment is going on showing the American public that he's out there doing the hard work the presidency in in you load on top of that low unemployment and investment breaks great stock market records and and he's got a story to tell that that doesn't include impeachment so I think the fact that the Democrats have made a huge gambit on saying we want to start this year an election year talking about impeachment means they have confidence that somehow this is gonna nor to their benefit sure they're gonna tell yeah all we're doing this because the right thing to do and the country needs to have written you know this this this catharsis because otherwise gosh this guy will be uncontrolled and the remainder of his presidency but the reality is this is all about elections and there is an election in ten months and regardless of what happens with impeachment there's gonna be an up or down vote on Donald Trump and and Democrats I think believe that somehow this is going to help them I think the jury's out just like it is on impeachment Craig when all this is said and done in a few weeks months whatever it is how would one define success for Democrats here is it winning over a few Republican votes is at getting John Bolton up there and and saying embarrassing things about the president what what how would you define success is they're they're democratic fetching involves trying to get no Republican votes the expectation is that if you were down from twenty sixteen you're still gonna go from a twenty twenty year dug in your ear dug in deep and you're gone you're either going up with the server down with the ship this is all aimed at those moderates in the middle and again as we talk about every cycle rate can talk about it better than I can even but you know there are those I think it's people things maybe ten or fifteen percent people kind of in the middle who are like you know twenty sixteen act much care for Hillary from kinda like the cut of trump's J. about love that guy from the apprentice he seems like a real decisive guy I'm gonna roll the dice and take my chances you know three years and they're like oh my gosh what have I done they don't let you talk to Democrats when they do focus groups people say they talk about the tweets like I don't really like to tweets which is become kind of a substitute for like I really like his style like he's got a real not very nice to people in the in the you know whatever so I think that the I mean it's a kind of I don't want to sound so cynical but a lot of this impeachment is aimed at maybe that ten percent fifteen percent twenty percent of the way outside the Democrats think are persuaded bowl you know former trump voters are people least took a took a walk on the trump side of the street maybe could come over to the Democrats and really want to dirty up trump as best they can you know he was he was shady and that way you don't Ukrainians and etcetera I think it's a huge gamble I think you know again as we just talked about a last second if you are not exactly riveted by the impeachment yet at least so far and I think Democrats put a lot of chips on this particular square it may work it may not but what they have what trump has is always of Rick said great economy two or three good trade deals and and a real you know telling his back yeah I would say just to add to that is that part of the play for the Democrats as defensive right I mean if you blow see the speaker of the house did not want to DO impeachment and it was the left wing of her party that forced her into it I mean she resisted resisted and she finally caved in because the one thing they can't afford is a disenfranchised base right I mean Hillary Clinton lost in states like Wisconsin because she underperformed what Barack Obama got there by eight in this case in two thousand sixteen she got two hundred fifty thousand fewer votes than Barack Obama did Donald Trump got twenty thousand fewer votes than Mitt Romney did but was able to beat Hillary Clinton that state because she didn't turn out base so a lot of the democratic strategy is fire up that base make sure they're happy if they deliver at the scale that they did for a bomb it's very hard to see a scenario where Donald Trump wins Craig this of course is going on right is were approaching the first presidential primary in Iowa it is there an easy way to describe what impact it's going to have on on the primary especially with some of the leading candidates not all of them but some of them here in Washington and sitting quietly in their seats drinking well yeah sort of at the tactical level it's a great day for Joe Biden or people to judge because you're not a member the United States Senate and so you're free to is moved to Iowa for the next two weeks and and set up shop for the senators running obviously Sanders and Warren called which are really Michael Bennett is still running for president someone told me today so I guess for senators you know it's it's actually trick here I do think out of the more on the strategic level though this is kind of baked into the cake for democratic primary voters and I will you don't really here the campus talk that much about it it's kind of understood of your democratic primary voters like accepted that you don't much care for Donald Trump weather's being in Peter not impeach or convicted or acquitted it it's all it's sort of like the backdrop against which the whole campaign is being run so the the rallies I attended when I was in I was people I've talked to it doesn't come up that much but I do think it's on the front of the minds of primary voters in one important way which is we need to find a candidate that can beat Donald Trump that's really good news for Joe Biden let's goodness for some of the others but that is really the the sort of the driving force behind the caucuses in the primaries are to come Rick isn't about thirty seconds if you can we get to November where is impeachment in Ukraine where to those rank on the panoply of of the issues that voters are going to think about when they well I think I'm on a piece of it I mean we blow through issues so quickly nowadays because of the mass media and how quickly we cycled through things that I would be surprised that the trend actually carries much weight November I would say though that that that Ukraine scandal will continue all right even though impeachment will end in a couple of weeks they'll still be reporting about these crazy deals that we're trying to be struck and what was happening so I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine has a doesn't have that were porting on it doesn't have a bigger impact in the impeachment itself okay my thanks to Rick Davis former John McCain national campaign manager in Bloomberg contributor in Craig Gordan Bloomberg's Washington
