Report: Nets’ Michael Beasley tests positive for coronavirus, leaves bubble
"New nets forward. Michael Beasley has tested positive for coronavirus and left the NBA Restart in Orlando now does that mean he was in? The bubble sounds like it. So that would be the first positive test from inside the bubble. Right, but let the thinking was one of the two that were reported. And they found out we just that today. That was who was because remember. It said there were two players in the bubble that were being either sent home or to an offsite quarantine offsite facility. All you're right. That could be. You're right. That absolutely could be him and he was just identified today.

"I mean he had no input. The coaching staff had no input into free agent acquisitions last summer. They were as dumbfounded as a lot of people were by signings of, of Stevenson, and Michael Beasley and those guys and it didn't match the plan that they were trying to execute. Their there's there were too many different agendas happening simultaneously and not enough. Elaborations. There is a strength in numbers, and there is a collective vision, and it doesn't sound like there was a collective vision for the organization that vision is from Robin magic than it needs to be articulated to everyone else. And then everybody needs to feel like okay, we're on board with that. And if you're not on board with that, you have to feel like you've platform, and this safe space to express your opinion, and I think that's where the or the management style that organizational culture has broken down, because when they're talking about employees, having panic attacks and people not reporting things to HR or the supervisors, nothing there sounded like anything other than having a really difficult, boss. Right. And having it boss, it's, you know, none of that surprise, Mason was surprised by magic being dictatorial. I've heard that magic that for your. So that didn't care it can work. I mean it has worked like if you're if you're player, that's how he probably was. That's how Kobe was. Right. Right. Jalan somebody. Right off the jump right challenge. Somebody right in the middle of practice or the first day of practice and then see how they respond. This is why I think star players don't often make good management types, because they have because they were so good. At what they did that their expectations are impossibly high for other people in magic found this out when during his brief sent as a coach, and he found this out now in his stint as the president of basketball operations. That's what you're talking about is why don't think Kobe could ever be a coach. Yes. Because people like I tell all the time about how us to see Kobe five six hours for the game working on things. Nobody else was out there that nobody had his burning desire to do it. Do you think Ramona, they're gonna get somebody? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if it'll be a superstar. But they have money to spend and somebody will take it. Okay. So I mean it just to quite question of is this going to be MAs Goffin dang again? Right. We feel like that, I feel like they'll, they'll get somebody just may not be Kevin Durant, or quite Leonard j so online dot com. I think these, these gambling books have got they know something. What did we say about game of thrones? We should have figured out when brand was wanted to that someone's going right? Something's going on. Anthony Davis is one to one to start next season with the Lakers. Interesting. I don't think so. I you know, David Griffin, I think is trying to keep him. I don't think he moves them early. He just got this job. And I think that even getting to News's demand for trade and David Griffin, remember he has until David Griffin has until February. That's right. So you think he will take it all the way to the brink. Yeah. Why not does evalu- up or down? Knows that they need them, and you're only getting them for half a season. I think that the value stays exactly the same in potentially could even increase depending on how certain teams do and free agency, and there are two things that have happened one in one that might that could affect what you just asked about Steve. One is this thing worked with Paul George right. Okay..

"How's it going? Going out of his good. I'm not I'm not pleased with my Lakers, though. Yeah. Yeah. The front office is unbelievable. I cannot believe was going only if everyone in the league barely trust Robson leaker where we hold Why loud. do we have on eating the key for him to say there? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think this is this is a question that a lot of people are asking why rob? Why rob? What is if you look at the last year the track record? And you know, we'll never know exactly. What was magic? We'll never know. What was exactly rob? But rob certainly presided as general manager over some very bad basketball decisions from the choices that remained last summer, which included John Rondo, and Michael Beasley and land. Stevenson, javale McGee all the way through the trade deadline, which was an unmitigated disaster. As every young player got hung out to dry trying to make an Anthony Davis trade all the way to the end of the season. When vizsla zoo bots who showed promise was suddenly flipped for Mike Moskal who turned out to be a non factor. It's unclear why rob Pelinka or why Jeannie thinks the rob Pelinka is the right guy for this job when she could have her. Pick of basketball executives have her pick and she's sticking with rob. Thanks for the phone call. I'm going to read something. Remember, I told you I've been talking to a lot of Laker fans. Yes. I'm going to read you something. From a Laker fan that you know. Okay. I'll tell you who it is at the end. Okay. I don't need to hear insults. Hurled genie bus or anyone else in the organization. That's scapegoating explains. Nothing it is petty and without substance. I know they need to hire a smart experienced president of basketball operations, duh. The Lakers had not made the playoffs in six years and this year with the season on the line all the players eligible except for Lonzo. They lost a crucial game in Phoenix. To the sons. There is a weakness of Malays in the organization. It is breaking my heart. One problem in thing. I've heard from the Lakers at all levels of the organization and from the local media are three falsehoods. Laker fans only care about winning championships..

"So the number one cause of of the answer your question of where did this? Go wrong was the first injury to LeBron. And then it just snowballed from there. So every team has injuries. But this was arguably the four best players on the team all going. Now this go wrong. This went wrong. Why hiring magic and Pelinka? Why you're going you want Jim bus and midge bell? I want somebody else. Wait a minute though. If you see I I would argue it went wrong on July the second when they didn't get. No when it went wrong, everything that came after signing, LeBron has been wrong, all of the all of the complementary players have been the wrong guys in the wrong place at the wrong time, which is magic and Palinka. Yeah. Which which does it falls at the feet of the front office? It falls at the feet of magic. And rob the idea that land Stevens. Michael Beasley were John Rondo where they would unlock. The keys to the kingdom. Just just foolish. I know they only signed one year deals, but it never made sense from the beginning. We all said whereas the shooting, and they came I mean, not the grab was on the show saying, well, we'd think everybody's gonna shoot well or guys are going to get better at shooting or whatever it is. You know, the that idea was wrong from the jump wrong from the jump. And I assume that when they have a chance to rebuild this roster whoever's here whoever's not that they are going to find shooters because that is the modern NBA, the modern NBA is is you gotta have the ability to shoot three's. You can't trade twos for threes. And that's what and the Lakers don't have the shooting there. What twenty ninth in the league in three point shooting? It went wrong on July the second. Now, you're saying that should have never been magic. And rob in the first place. Well, looking back now if you're gonna go where did it all go wrong? Yeah. Because they came in. And they have there wasn't really a big process of finding the next guy. It was magic. Came in. They've said, hey, magic you want to start helping out Jim bus, and then eventually to take over he ended up taking over and every decision that they've made has been wrong. Like you were saying now if you're going back in time to do this. But yes, they have not shown that they can do something anything correctly. They didn't build the roster correctly while they this whole thing. Lebron? Okay. And there's the argument there they liberation. They did they land him or did he come? I believe the Magic Johnson has got a very ability in a room. Yes. To say to LeBron. We're going to do everything we can to put a winning team around you. And plus, Greg..

Well, the athletes burqas Thompson speculating that if the big still, I know people treat it as done deal. But if Kevin Durant leaves Golden State the warriors are prepared to target in the summer of twenty twenty. Twenty one twenty sorry. Twenty twenty. I've got a on the brand go ahead. I think he's a small market guy thing he loves it in Milwaukee plan for bud. And what they this organization has built around hand. And I don't think he's a guy that wants to go and chase a championship. You know, where team has won championships recently. I think he wants to build his own in pyre. And when they're LeBron James how he feels about went into championships in Miami. In that one championship in Cleveland, which one is more gratifying. Just brought every ounce of emotion out of this the one anyone in Cleveland. Yeah. Think this is one of those kids that love Milwaukee to gave them a chance. He's he's built his brand in Milwaukee. He feels comfortable in confident that this team is on the right direction. They got the best record in the NBA right now. So I think he's a type of guy like traces said he's not going to chase. You can recruit too, but it is a little bit harder Milwaukee because a small market city. But that guy's talent. I think he wants to you know, win a championship in Milwaukee where he got started. He says do about says playing for the Lakers was my dream since I was a little kid thanks to Lakers for making my dream happen. I will never forget years that I've been a Laker. Thanks to all the people in organization, but especially the coach Luke all my teammates training staff and fans, I'm excited to join the clippers, and I can't wait to get on the court y'all around. Well, you definitely see around. Yeah. Yeah. Just cross the hall. Let's say trades, which one is more likely for us to keep its bullet. Reggie bullet. Yeah. And the other one was Carson. Caused not necessarily gonna cost you ton either on the upper mi-, I believe he makes more than Bullock in there for his capital miscarriage or makes five. Five. So the the the egg heads can figure it out. But I think it would be harder to keep this in real quick. I want to dump this in if you're if you're just tuning in the arms race in the Eastern Conference has gotten fascinating, you know, Philly acquired Tobias Harris today, Milwaukee acquired Nicola miratec from New Orleans. Who's a great stretch for five who will play really well around the Greek freak and Toronto acquires Markelle Sol, that's huge, man. I mean the Eastern Conference play that final four Ryan was talking about him one of the breaks like when he cared in the beginning of the season Margo, still really good. Yeah. Like you saw how good he was. And then he stopped caring. I'm not trying to steal from your computer. But but that's big. Yeah. Big for Toronto. I still don't think why staying but it's big for them this year. So I want to. Mention this until a little story. The dodgers have tweeted, and and it's it's sad. Do you gotta give up. No, you give you want to give up the whole roster. You're telling us that none of us are any good. Lebron wants to win and you're not a part of that winning formula. How are they going to play out the rest of the year when they're twenty seven and twenty seven and right now out of the playoffs. It's it's going to be impossible because this is where you have to realize as an NBA player. We you know, we talked to Koran Butler yesterday. And he said, listen, you've got to understand the NBA's a business. This is what it's like, it's like, okay and for players like land, Stevenson, Michael Beasley, they gotta get that. You're talking about you'll you'll do your young that all they've been told us how great they are. Oh, you're great Magic Johnson says we want Lonzo ball's your jersey is going to be in the rafters and Brandon Ingram. You're so untouchable, not going to trade you for Paul George knocking to trade you for Kawai, Leonard all the. Realized how dumb was that. The Lakers wouldn't do that. All and Kyle coups your LeBron's number two guy. They have a great chemistry together. And now, it's only you guys are going to be traded. These are young twenty twenty one twenty two year old kids that don't get the business of the NBA. They don't understand that part of it the veterans I want to be upset event. Look come on. Of course, come on, Lance, Ron, but you guys are going to be nailed in this. They already know that they don't know this. The Lakers have completely biff this entire situation. And now, they're at the point where how do you walk this back if you don't trade for Anthony Davis? How do these guys walk back in the locker implied? They know LeBron wants effingham gone. They know LeBron knows I can't with Ingram. I don't want this. I'm sure he's technicals Mogollon, dude. I'm sorry, man. I love you, man. I love no way. I could buy I'm sorry. But that this is what's going to happen? So you know, that you know, they don't like Luke Walton this has turned into a dumpster fire season and the big exclamation point was last night against the Pacers. And you had the fans chanting Brandon Ingram, and you had the fans chanting that javale McGee was not trade worthy. When he was at the free throw line. Last year in warming. It just presented it to at the game. The Bron James didn't play because he didn't play in the first one day played. I made there yelling not worth trading and not worth trading. When is. Pays her fans on it last night? I mean in my right there all night for pace was and then the imagery last night of LeBron sitting near with three seats empty. From his teammates that picture got around on social media saw last night. But those are you know, when you look at that, you go there's a disconnect. This is not good. That's the that's the Lakers see that other iconic moment because you have the Channing last night. And you have this photo that's making the rounds of late in the game of this blowout. Lebron been out of the game for a longtime. He doesn't doesn't reenter the game after the third quarter. And he's sitting all the way the last seat, obviously because he's not going to go back in they're not gonna waste them. And a couple of minutes before obviously other three other guys were sitting on the from Ryan go into the game. But this photo of LeBron by himself at the end, three empty seats. And then all the players. I mean, that's the Laker season in one picture. That's it's LeBron. And it's everybody else, and we don't know who to trust and where to go because LeBron obviously is pulling the strings and now like I said, this is how the Laker front office has gotten so much more credit. When all these done is continue to be a nap. He thought when Jeanie Buss cleared out Cup Chac and all the other buses..

"Thanks for joining me. Kevin. Let's go through a couple of the reasons why you say so reason number one think the Lakers will be too thin to compete if they get rid of all the pieces, they're offering kind of explain that. And also explain how different that is. Then the current Lakers who most people think don't know talent to compete. No, no. That's understandably accurate. But yeah, I mean there we're talking at this point, you know, all five young guys if it's continuous called bull. Pope is kind of salary filler who which is New Orleans would like it to be that's six of the nine guys that Luke Walton is gonna play on over nightly basis when all of them are healthy, which you know, Lonzo is not right now, obviously you're bringing back Davis and then Solomon hill to take his salary off New Orleans books. Solomon hill hasn't even been good enough to play on a regular basis for the pelicans who are bad enough that that's the reason they're trading. Anthony davis. You're suddenly looking at in the short term you'd have to promote either land Stevenson, Michael Beasley to fill out the starting lineup. And you wouldn't really have any kind of quality coming off the bench at that point, pending what you can do in the by art market. I I think one of the, you know, if you're going to trade for Anthony Davis now and not wait on potentially signing him in twenty twenty part of the argument has to be we have a chance to compete in two. Oh seasons with him. And I don't think this could team is good enough to compete. You mentioned the potential buyouts with Davis and LeBron in the Los Angeles market. This would be an attractive place for players to come. Is there any beliefs that they will be able to fill out some of those holes with guys. I mean, we've heard rumors about come Carmelo. I have no idea how effective he could possibly be. Maybe if he's on a court with LeBron. He would listen and do what he's supposed to? But even if he's listening who knows if he can hit shots or play defense and be effective. Are there any other names that are out there that might be available that they could grab? So I think the one obvious name that could really help them in. This scenario is Wesley Matthews who went to New York in the Kristaps Porzingis steel last week, and you know, he will probably get bought out. He'll have a lot of options, you know, Houston and Philadelphia to teams that still have all or part of their mid level their room exception. I should say available to to offer him more than the minimum, which minimum is all the Lakers could offer him. But you know, he's still might choose LA for all those reasons and he would. Be a huge upgrade. But you know, I, you know, it'd be only filling one of the many hold if they'd be creating right Sarah Spain Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio, talk and ESPN's Kevin pelton. You can follow him at Cape Helton on Twitter. All right. Let's move on reason. Number two. So now there are thin team. And not only would they be thin for the remainder of this season. But you argue that it would hamper their ability to go out and getting other superstar in two thousand nineteen explained that. Yes. So the Lakers have Davis on the books. There's no scenario where they can create a full neck slot to sign a third star, a Kyrie Irving Klay Thompson. Kevin durant? If they wanted to do that, the the only realistic path to join it would be to sign that player first. And then make a trade like this for Anthony Davis after that. Because of the fact that you'd be taking on more salary in the trade, then you'd be sending out. So, you know, I don't know that that's necessarily a big factor here in as much as it's not clear that any of these great free agents really want to go to LA and play with LeBron. But it is kind of a small factor that the best version of AD trade would be made next summer not now. Right..

I was like, where's runners New Orleans, Chicago all this stuff with the weird or whatever the young guys on those teams. Listen, follow Rondo through a brick wall. By the way, if even beyond his charisma, or whatever if you have your young guy, you're looking at like people to listen to your locker room. I you're not gonna listen to those guys. Yeah. The goof troop basically coming up next we got the Sodano scoreboard. And a message for the McVay haters, Brian Chemnitz meat hanging out Saddam show. ESPN LA sit down show here on ESPN LA a mean. Here. Brian cabinets here short segment here. So we got to act quickly. A couple of things we need to get you. I wanna get to this Sean McVay thing because there's already the initial jokes are out anybody one of those Sean McVay disciples, be careful look man, if you made the decision to hire the Sean McVay disciple, and you are somehow worried or shook because they lost the Super Bowl to the greatest quarterback coach combo combo in the history of the sport. Then you know, what you shouldn't be in business. Okay. Like, that's just the reality of you shouldn't own a team. Well, I I would say this. It's why did you hire Sean McVay because the thing what makes McVeigh's is not just the offense of system and all that which you need personnel. Takeaway Todd early and a couple of other people talking to look, right? And all that we saw what happened when they lost Cooper Cup. Like, it took them five weeks figure out what to do about that. Right. The culture that he brought there. It's the it's the way he operates locker room. It's the way he communicates with players. That's what you're buying. If you're buying Sean McVeigh, buying the culture. Yes. Oh, yeah. If you believe that the next guy's gonna bring something like that and can hire good coordinators, then you're fine. With Zach Taylor is your coach or whatever it is. There's another side of this. And it's always been fascinated me. How not just fans but media everybody we say about for instance, Jared Goff cuma couple years. He'll grow hill. Learn he'll get better because of this right? We never see them coaches. Now, some this is who you are is he the rusty alive. We'll never get better at this stage of that part of the game. Even ridiculous, even though Bill Belichick fired from his first job in Cleveland. Yeah. -solutely? Absolutely. And so like, I there's no shame man. You got outcoached by belted out of here. You know, you fire all your clones cooks catches that ball in the corner of the end zone while the whole different ball McVay. Just be Bill bell check, right torch, passed Lyle and. Yeah. And the other part is success is never just like a straight line to the top. There's like the stock market right zigzags. It goes up and down that. Backwards. Sometimes it goes down right goes up. Like, it's there's an Aetna. Flowed all of this. Okay. And I think it's just people I had this. Okay. "When you've got those guys coming after you in the locker room feeling like those are the veterans whose voice needs to be heard on this. And nobody in the locker room is saying that they were out of line. Luke Walton is not long for this job in Lance's defense. He did say he had no part of that and social media, and they just threw his name in the report. But Michael Beasley Jovanovski that's enough. There is no respect for Luke Walton it would appear in that locker room. But the bigger question here for the Lakers is to me what salvageable about this season. Okay. Are they going to make a coaching change? And then use that as an excuse to not make the playoffs. Do they keep Luke? Walton and try to make a playoff push. If they don't get Anthony Davis, which they're likely not going to do at least not this season. And then you go into an off season next year. It seems like nobody wants to go to LA they want to go to New York or elsewhere. So really what's the plan for this year is one playoff push enough to make you look attractive to free agents. Or is this going to be a disaster that looks like unsalvageable all good points in the macro? But let's examine the micro. I defy you to come up with three players on anyone roster throughout the history. Not just basketball, but sports together around the coach and have less respect from the coach looking back on them because their land Stevenson, even though he denies it. I think I'm waiting till the season's over and let me tell you. Why one the Celtics are probably the most likely candidate as far as having discernible assets to send back to the pelicans. But unfortunately for any other team other than the Lakers because it's so known that Davis wants to play for LA. You know, you're only getting them for what one year if you don't get it before the trade deadline if you don't get a deal done this season. Then you're only getting them for one year before he hits free agency. And then we know it's probably likely he's going to go to the Lakers. Now, you could have a Paul George situation where Oklahoma City kind of won him over and. He ended up deciding to stay and you have a year to do that. But kind of Toronto's dealing with Kawhi Leonard this year. But I mean, are you know, how much do you want to gamble on? You're gonna win over Anthony Davis to the point where he wants to stay. I think a team like Boston. If he goes there in the summer, let's say, and they don't resign Kyrie, then, you know, you still got a lot of pieces to to build around there. Marcus, smart, Jalen, Brown, etc. Course, depending on what you have to trade to get them. But I I think Boston will still have plenty of pieces and Boston has a lot of picks. So to that end in maybe Boston has success, and they make it to the NBA finals and Davis is like hell, let me stay in the east. Boy, it's tough in the west. You know, why because the dubs play in the west. But this whole situation only got magnified when you saw what the Knicks got in return for the unicorn in the porzingas trade this week, which I think actually in the grand scheme of things wasn't a whole hell of a lot. And I think Knicks fans are going to look back at that trade someday. And be like wait we got who for porzingas because now you've got porzingas in together. And obviously, he's probably not gonna play this year. But going forward damn that could be a hell of a one two punch in big d-, Dallas. You're welcome fish on the other side. We will get the xfinity X factor. And we'll get you. The m drive player to watch. Also Steve Kerr was on with Tolbert and Lund yesterday, and they talked about the super team and Steve Kerr had some really interesting thoughts on that. We'll roll that out for you all coming up. It's dubs countdown to tip. It is the warriors and the Lakers thirty four meetings between these two teams, of course, the warriors lost at home on Christmas day. And then they went down to LA last month and beat the Lakers. So these teams tied one one on the season. And with the nuggets winning last night actually tied atop the Western Conference with the warriors at thirty six and fifteen nuggets have won five in a row, and they're gonna be pushing the warriors in the second half, which I think we'll probably be a good thing. And we now good the warriors are after a loss. I would expect a much better effort tonight. It's gonna be a nationally televised game. Great vibe, an oracle. So this is going to be a fun. It's countdown to tip Brian here with you on the sports leader. NBR's San.

Anthony Davis Trade Rumors: Pelicans May Make Counteroffer to Lakers
"Anthony Davis says if feels like his time is now that he's given all he can to the pelicans. And he's ready to move on the all-star informing New Orleans earlier this week. He'd like to be traded said Friday that his intention is as long as he can is a member of this organization, but legacy does factor in this decision. Oh. Lexi. Goes good. I'm playing. Know. What is my legacy going to be? That's the younger AD. Anthony Davis senior telling ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that he doesn't want his son to play for the Celtics after quote what they had done to Isaiah Thomas. No loyalty guy gives his heart and soul Nate traded him. They did trade him for Kyrie Irving over by the way. Meantime, the pelicans are mulling over what to do with the six time all star as next Thursday's deadline approaches. Wold on the Lakers. I offer for Davis is underwhelming leaks. Sources league sources tell me that the Lakers I offer to the pelicans included cow coups Ma Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Lonzo ball and a first round pick. And the Lakers offered have offered a few variations. Of deals, but but all of them have only included in each of them. A couple of the Lakers are among the Lakers. Several good young players. Just two of them in each offer and Rondo or land Stevenson are in almost every offer and essentially. In your starting point in these kinds of talks, especially for a player of Anthony Davis has stature would be most of your good young players and multiple first round picks. And the pelicans haven't got an offer yet. I'm told that includes more than one first round

And then I hate to do but javale McGee the other night the Lakers played against the warriors. This man. Javale McGee poured a three I'm talking about faced up gave a gave a pump fake jab step and pulled a three air ball the shit out of it. All I could about with Albert Harrison. That's all I can think about our. Seven. Puma three full, man. Oh my God. He had no been is out. He shouldn't even he would be on the three point land. That man pull the three. "Well, it's all it's also just an entirely different environment in college. It's more about it's more about the coach in college. And it's about the brands and the players and the NFL, and then sometimes that balances just the tough to reach. So after getting the free agent market this March boys receiver Kobe's lease just the team front office dictates where passes or not after head of sorry dictates where passes are thrown yesterday. Stephen Jones brushed aside that notion during an appearance on the rich Eisen show. That's just his. But certainly not at all the case, I'll make we don't get involved in that, you know, the only thing ever do decide to tell you. We're gonna pay players a lot of money or we're gonna trade for players and give up big picks at a we would never dictate where balls go and things of that nature in terms of the game plan and getting involved with the coaching staff. Does get ready play ball game had certainly of all people always involved in getting balls and getting catches. I mean, most of this is probably because his targets dipped from six point one four for game two four point four five game. After the acquisition of Amari Cooper Cooper became the entire team. Michael Beasley is a valuable piece. I think slot receivers really commander, but once Amari showed up it's like, let's get Amari into this offense big time. It's inevitable coal did tweet yesterday. Some misunderstanding my point every teams gay point game plan in pro sports is dictated by the front office. Big free agent editions, high draft picks, etc. Are going to get the most. -tunities and not mad at that. I just want to help my team win. All good. Oh, good players want the rock. That's true. But if you come out and say that the front office to get some ball, you're basically implying that they are literally saying you have to throw the ball to Markku. That's what it sounded. Like you said. Traffic like it. You can kind of backpedal off now because it seems like he's putting them in a bad position. But really, I don't I don't know that I don't believe it because it is your Jones, and he does run every aspect of it. It's not it's not so far fetched to me to believe that an owner doesn't come down. Like, hey, you know, I it seems like this guy or paying a lot of money isn't getting all again all the passes. I don't I don't buy it. But I think there have been situations where owners medal Steinbrenner in baseball was telling people what to do like, I it's not the first it's not unheard. No NBA owners happening here. But it's not unheard of. And finally, you were just talking about Antonio Brown. The Steelers have apparently realized it might still need Tonio Brown, especially because treating a player of his caliber at twenty one point one million at a cap, hit seems like a tough move Markey's pouncey said earlier this week that the he thought the relationship between the team and Brown could be mended. And now our owner art Rooney said weeks ago that he couldn't envision rounding sealers by training camp. But he said yesterday, there are a lot of factors that we take account on it. We'd have to sit down with Antonio and understand where he is. And make sure he understands where we are. There's some work to do before we figure that out. I have said I do think that it is still a possibility they all get room, and sort it out. I. Avian possibility in bell is the one player to me of their two stars that I you know, I know there's this like narrative now that running backs you don't need a big running back. But it should be noted that Todd Gurley and Zeke have absolutely helped shape Dak Jared Goff. So let let's not make that that running backs don't matter. No they by the way, Andrew luck. Finally as a running back Marlin MAC, Andrew luck had a great year. Look at look at Sunday. Michelle is done for the patriots. And by the way, a lot cheaper better. When Kareem hunt was around that she felt unstoppable with Kareem Hutton's. Okay. So this idea that star running backs don't matter I would pass on an Tonio Brown. If I was at GM, if I'm the jets Livian bell was eighty catch two hundred Kerry guy, you can say whatever you want. There's not love those guys in the face of the earth..

"Because at least with that said, and you're listening to Caspian Los Angeles combine away Anthony fits the mold of a Rondo in this sense. Lebron's talked about wanting to play with high Q players, you could say what you want that camello. Anthony the ball sticks in this that and the other but Carmelo Anthony plays. Well, when he's played with the Bron James now granted been the Olympics and things of that nature. And I know that Olympic mellow is long gone. But I do think that he'd been even Carmelo who had. I've been the guy who said he didn't want to come off the bench that he didn't want to do all these things even he has to be humbled to the point where he realizes this is my last shot, regardless. So because that is the case that he's going to give you the best version of whatever's left of Carmelo Anthony. And I still think that's a better player than even what Michael Beasley can contribute on this particular team to have for the biggest moments because as good as Michael Beasley as a scorn and whatnot. Michael Beasley students can give you what you need the most on his team Reichel bees not as great as shooter. As you guys think he is. He's not a guy of stretches the ball from three point land very much. He doesn't have the volume even if he does hit it from a decent clip. So camello Anthony because LeBron James creates opportunities that other people don't create for guys, particularly from the outside and the perimeter. I think he can give Carmelo Anthony a little juice and give him an opportunity to hit shots that. He hasn't been able to get in a long time because Russell Westbrook. Kirk is. And that that dude he's not putting the ball on the money. And getting you those open looks that LeBron is getting you. Yeah. But still no man, it's about ego and Carmelo loves some Carmelo and does he think he's bigger than his role? I keep he does sign with the Lakers. If it does kind of works out just think about this. Basically if Carmelo Anthony is on the bench will he accept being on the bench? Will he be a bench player or will? He be a guy in which you know, says I won't more with my role. I j- awarded do is we're going to pause the what's trending segment and finish it off next time. Because one of the men of the hour is joining us now Dante Fowler whose go to the Super Bowl with the LA Rams to take on the New England Patriots. Dante first of all I mean, it's got to be a whirlwind kind of season for you. I mean, you were. You know right there knocking on the door last season with the Jaguars. Right. We will get you there in five minutes, plus rookie is back really be better than ever. And if he is is there anything at all you can do with the warriors. We'll talk about it and Dana is here. Dana white in our studio that huge fight is tomorrow night and everytime he stops by he make someone mad. We'll see how that goes in time to get up right now. And we begin with the Lakers. And that every goes, Dan is ready to go. Start was the Lakers and the thunder site with a cute little moment here before the game. Oh, look at Russell Westbrook is son. Have a good time out there. That's got a nice moment there. And then here's here's a not. So nice moment. This is Michael Beasley checking into the game notice. Anything unusual? Anyone she's wearing the wrong shorts? I one moment you're going to see when he notices. He's ready to go in the game. Hold on wait a minute. That's not the color of my shorts supposed to be warm up shorts. And so he's going to jog briskly into the locker room the change. They would eventually come back and get in the game wearing the proper uniform. Okay. Now, we take you to the action tied fourth quarter five minutes ago. Russell Westbrook corner. Three bang thunder. Made a franchise record twenty two threes in this game. They got a one eleven eight league. Now, Lakers down one one ten go. Kyle Kuzma good. Is. He been since LeBron got hurt. Lakers up one coups my head thirty two next possession. Russell westbrook. No at the basket. Couldn't buy a bucket from two last night. There was to eighteen from two point range. At the Levin percent fifth worst his career now thunder down three five seconds to go. A little crazy vomit here they commit the foul on the floor, and it is called a shooting foul. Luke, Walton can't believe it. Lebron James watching can't believe it. They're gonna give Russell three free throws. The officials would eventually acknowledge. This was a mistake. It was a bad call. But Westbrook's got to go to the line has gotta make three to tie. He made the first he made the second, wouldn't you? Now, he makes the third thing. Even he knows we got away with one. They're they're going to overtime in the OT. Lonzo ball is this not necessarily a specialty from way downtown FANG Lakers by three minute fifteen ago. Laker lead is six. This is what we expect from Lonzo ball fancy passing this to a visa zoo. Botts laying it in Zuma has been good. He would score twenty six. Lebron James loves it and loves him. And the Lakers who big lead saw the bad. Call at the end still found a way to pull it out in overtime. Nice win one thirty eight one Twenty-eight knocking off. Oh, K C and the Lakers. Do it by scoring the thunder by thirteen points in clutch time in this game. Our second best margin shoes me third third-best margin in a game this season in their previous eleven games without the Brown. They were minus fourteen in clutch time, how about seventy Sixers taken on the Pacers greenie Joel and be the big story in this game listless questionable before the game with back tightness, but ends up trying to play any way second quarter, Philadelphia up three be driving to the basket. Can't get that shot to go..

"But I also will point out that a. It's really tough to say this. But like, Michael Beasley for LA. Really? He's been playing pretty well. Yeah. Nineteen points. The other game. What is average is on the season that I believe it's in the double digits. That's why Nuuk it up because I don't even think he's I'd never even considered him. I'm curious what his numbers are. Okay. I think Lou Williams up there in herald from the clippers. They got two guys. Even to Wayne Wade is up. There would you would you put Jalen Brown up? There is he's he was off the bench the other day. I don't know. Well, Gordon how Mike Mike does even play. Yes. Don't judge me? Asking obvious Oregon synonymous question like. What are is numbers? I mean, I think he plays every once in a while. But I don't know. Yard is around. Ten. Fifteen minutes game is everything six points. One rebound. He can't win six men. Well, he played while yesterday. So we might be moving up there. Maybe. All right. What's next? Player of the year. I'm going to pick. Why was definitely up there? Paul George a little bit higher. Yeah. But I just think quite that's his that's why he gets twenty points because he does it off turnovers. So the thunder have the best defensive efficiency in the league right now. And Georgia's our best wing defender. He is. Hi up there in terms of a lot of the defensive stats, including defensive wind shares. He usually guards the best player of the other team. So I like him this year thing he's having even better season than before. You got a Y. Yeah. I can't deny how good he is on defense. He's always one of the best. What's next? What else do we got? So we've done Ricky then coach defensive player we've done six most improved player. And then we'll do that is between Derrick rose Darren FOX for me. I'm gonna pick Derrick rose that fifty point performance, and he's had multiple points like in the thirties and even in the forties. And you gotta put that in perspective. So I'm going to Derrick rose. For me. It's dean FOX sick is. And then probably Derrick rose after that talked a little bit about Siachen from Toronto. He's just having incredible season. I mean, his three point shot came out of nowhere. Which is crazy. He's averaging fifteen points shooting. Fifty percent that's up from seven points last year. Defensively athletic. He's long he can guard a water positions. He kind of came out of nowhere for me. I mean, he went from really a rotation player. You know, a guy that possibly could help off the bench. But no, he's a starter in a solid starter..

"Only three quarters. There was also what issue with the Detroit Pistons defense that allow Michael Beasley to come up the bench on his birthday to also. Put up big numbers off late Griffin in an anomaly didn't have a rebound just like the Greek freak didn't have a dunk. I would just look at both of those players. I have never seen this happen watching Boca those gas plate. But with that being said playing small ball works to his favor ofensive -ly. 'cause usually he's able to get his shots off definitely against five. And he's able to work matchups against force. The problem is when you go against the top tier teams, and I've done this distinction for years. They're going to always have a prominent big that's in the league because of his skill like Yokich nurture, Anthony Davis. And then you're gonna have those that are in the league because of their will like Stephen Adams, and guess what? Lebron James cow coups does not want to be doing guard neither one of those guys gently so if you're gonna have a healthy diet of the three headed monster of the Laker center, getting quality minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if the small bile small ball lineup is not the one that closes games. But again, it was good to see how he continue to progress and distinguish himself as a player on that team. People. They want..

"You would say at this point he was seen limping around of before that. And so usually, you know, that's a pretty hefty grin injury there. When you can't even walk just normally around the arena, not to mention trying to move laterally at all. But yeah, I mean, that's it's been reported that James is going to take his time because this is a new injury for him. That's a kind of what I thought. But I mean, I still pick those going to be back on Friday. And I kinda doubt that that's even going to be the case either we talked about Rondo surgery on the fifteen and sixty Michael Beasley, he is still not with the team as far as I know. It's turn a Memphis now where Chandler Parsons has actually been cleared to play. He says he is healthy and dined to play his, quote, I medically cleared by the people I work with every single day that are experts. So it's frustrating to watch team struggle. And I'm sitting there on the bench healthy. He said that they had targeted December twenty first a return date and he's gone through five on five practice for two weeks without any soreness the grizzlies asked him to go to the G league for a really long time. And there hasn't really been much communication. So if he's healthy, what is the point of not putting him out there to you think just to like full another team into thinking like, maybe he's healthy and could contribute and could be traded. Like is that is that what this is that? That's the only place that comes to mind for me. It could be something I wondered about I think this depends on the specific language of the contract is if there's something in his insurance that if he misses a certain number of games, but they didn't say that it had to be injury related. Maybe they could save some extra money again. I don't know the terms of the contract. It's just me trying to think of reasons because as you said, this is this is strange for a couple of different things and one of them being that Joel persons is not just under contract for this year. This is not just a maybe them holding him to see if he can be salary fodder in July are sorry in January, February he's. Coaching for next season. So this gets a little bit weirder for all of these purposes. Yeah. And I am guessing that this doesn't have anything to do with insurance. It may be that he wouldn't surprise me because I think the league's insurance carrier can pick. I think it's fourteen players that are just can't be covered by insurance at the start of every year. And wouldn't Chuck Taylor persons is one of those with twenty four million dollars and not an extensive history of actually playing a game for the Memphis grizzlies. So I don't think it has anything to do with the insurance. And if it did have to do it the insurance he's been proved healthy now. So just having a miss games that wouldn't help you at the insurance..

"Who does who makes those shots? Is there a high volume thirty, eight percent three point shooter on that jails been working on his jumper. I actually weirdly, I'm not worried about that with the Lakers and I guess part of the reason I'm the main reason I'm optimistic about the Lakers because LeBron's on their team. The other reason I'm optimistic about the Lakers is all the attention been paid to the veterans and why did they sign these guys can't shoot. They don't make any sense there. Playmakers lebrons a playmaker blob of is crazy, Michael Beasley. What? How I think they're young guys are good. Like I think they're young guys are better than those veterans and part of what makes their team confusing. An interesting to me is sort of like how quickly are they going to come to the realization that like heart Kuzina Ingram should all play more than the veterans at Casey, pe- as he's sort of like, tailor-made, he's never been as good as shooters. People think like he looks like a good shooter and he's just an okay one. But you know, as a defense for spot up guy like he fits, he fits what you need around the Bron. I, those guys are all better than the veterans as signed it, and, and that's what's interesting. To me is like, when do they realize that?
LA Lakers Sign Michael Beasley
"Let's get to it. The Lakers keep adding to their roster this off season. Multiple reports. The Lakers have agreed to a one year deal with Michael Beasley was a teammate of LeBron's in Miami Beasley was the number two overall pick in two thousand eight, but has had a history of drug issues during his career. Last year, he averaged about thirteen points per game with the Knicks and the Lakers already at it. Rajon Rondo land Stevenson and javale McGee this off season. We're joined by EVA's one NBA analyst. Chris. I'm gonna get this one starting with skip because I wanna know what you think. What is going on here just for the record, I've covered the NBA even longer than my main Chris Broussard. I started covering the NBA when I was at the LA times back in nineteen seventy seven, and I covered these Los Angeles Lakers. So I've been around for a little while and I've seen thing or to this team now sets up as the most difficult to coach team. I can ever remember. Maybe I'm forgetting one somewhere along the trail, but I don't think so because let me just count the ways. Michael Beasley love is game, loved him before his draft. He's been on seven teams and eleven years for reason. Rajon Rondo has been on six teams in the last five years for a reason land. Stevenson has been on seventeen in the last six years for a reason. Nj, all McGee has been on sixteen eleven years for various reasons. They're all in different ways, extremely difficult to coach from night tonight. They can be moody, they can be. Unpredictable. They can be a little knuckle headed in their own various ways. This is now the NBA's version of the expendable 's and I can't believe that LeBron James signed off on all four of them because I'm pretty sure magic had to take each one of these still LeBron say, you good, you good, you good. He's had history with all four in various ways playing for or against them or with an or against them. And it's like he now has the equivalent of four JR Smith on his team. Not that Rondos knuckle headed. He can just be difficult high basketball, I q Doc. Rivers finally said, I just can't coach him because he thinks he's the coach of my team thinks he knows more than I do. He was the driving force behind New Orleans rise last year into the plows past Portland in the first round. It was highly impressive. And then the pelicans said, no, no, no, we we're not going to go for with Rondo because he's difficult to coach. So all the sudden porn Luke Walton at age thirty eight is sitting. In the volatile mix that he's surrounded with with a lot of bench players who are going to want minutes and make waves of if they don't get their minutes and he's got a lavar ball, sort of hanging over his head from above and you never know which night lavar is just going to go off on Luke Walton and say, the team has quit on him or he should be fired or whatever. So if this team does get off to a little bit of a rocky, start, my Mandla Shannon Sharpe says, yes, it could get off to a rocky start. Everybody thinks that this is going to become a rough mix. You know where the fingers are going to get points early on. The thirty eight year old head coach down at the end of the bench, right? And again, LeBron is going to have to help him coach his team. If in fact, he signed off on these four guys, but I'm gonna remind you. There's been a long running theme in the league that I, I heard around the San Antonio Spurs back in Stephen Jackson days, and I love Stephen Jackson, but he was considered early on in his career despite all of his game and all of his intangibles in character that he did have basketball character. He was considered a knucklehead. He could do knucklehead things in..

"What's going on. Everybody welcome. I take Molly came here and we have some major. Exciting news here on I take. I am so happy. So Maxon Stephen may be on vacation, but they are getting ready to take on the Big Apple. I take officially moving to a new studio in New York City. The debut show airs on Labor Day, September, third. So we may be changing the location, but you can still expect the same hot towards debate. And of course, lots of special guests and surprises to welcome the show to New York in speaking of a voice. I miss Steven, you're on the phone. Hey, how's vacation going in your discreet location? Disclose location? Yes. I'm loving loving. Neely, I, you know, I relaxed enough to get ready to beat up on Maxwell another year. And what have you that's a given look comes with the territory, but I mean credibly excited that we're moving to New York City both myself and maximum native New Yorkers. It's been a long time coming. It's something that pleaded in baseball for years, and finally it's happening. So I'm incredibly excited. Yes, I am Stephen, I cannot wait. And I think one of the major things I'm excited about is obviously, you know, it's the mecca for for a lot of things, especially I still consider the NBA as well. And I think certain guests will be able to get there in a lot of other surprise and stuff will have for the show. So I think it'd be major, but I, I know you have to be kind of sad because you're not going to have to drive up to bristle anymore. You're not gonna come up here. You know what it is. It is a very, very sad day because I mean, what's not to love about Bristol, Connecticut. I mean. ESPN down the block that there's a McDonald's and and and and and a ruby Tuesdays and stuff like that. I've really, it's really sad that I'm not going to be able to be there because I'm going to be in new you most times and on occasion, I'll find myself with John and feed and Dominic in LA. I mean my God, it's such a tough tough situation, but I think I'll say, I can't wait and obviously can't wait at four t with you guys. Now that'll be on your home city, but saving, I'll tell team soon. I hope you are actually relaxing for some reason. I don't believe you, but please do that because you know, once you're back, you're back. Just know this when I'm back copy ready, then I'll tell, sorry my condolences to Mexico element in advance must've taken. It's about to be out. All right, Steven, Al. Talk to you soon. All righty. Thank you. Congratulations, Shane. Okay. So we have a first day moving to the Big Apple catch us every day at ten eastern starting on September. Third. Sports right now. I'm at Collins, new Denver Nuggets. Point guard. Isaiah Thomas is sitting down with our MBA insider h. g. now ski, I t who signed a one year two million dollars contract with the nuggets. Last week opened up to watch telling him this free agency was flat out disappointing, the twenty nine year old who continues to fight the perceptions of his help. One onto say, quote, people know that I've earned deserve the Bax contract, and that's the only reason why I didn't get paid what I deserved because I got injured. I get that. The biggest thing for me was to get to the best opportunity for me this summer and show that I'm healthy. You can read. We'll just four article on Thomas right now on ESPN dot com. Staying in the NBA with Kawai heading to Toronto on the broad in Los Angeles. We're looking ahead to who are the best and worst team heading into the season where than forty ESPN reporters, insiders and editors came out with a new set of power rankings. You'd think with James in Los Angeles Lakers at least at the. Five think again, no surprise. The warriors are on top, but three of the top five teams are from the Eastern Conference, the Lakers checking nine, but that's only the six best among Western Conference teams. Let's get back to. I takes Tony. Thank you the Lakers outing. Another piece to help LeBron next season's dining, Michael Beasley to a one year deal. As you just heard the Lakers are number nine in our latest NBA tower, rankings Mazel serve with you. Do think the Lakers or more likely to surprise us as upcoming season or disappoint, you know, I'm a huge Lakers fan. I think they are more likely to disappoint what fortunately with you to say that look. I mean, there are some really interesting piece. I liked the addition of Michael Beasley. They need shooters, but there are some really challenging personalities on this roster land Stevenson and Ray John Rondo and javale McGee. And now Michael Beasley, the expectations are so high for this team. And I think ultimately we're talking about a team that's going to be the six to seven seed. I think in the Western Conference I would never count LeBron. But LeBron James, I don't think has ever been on a team that has finished six or seven in its conference. I think it's going to be a very, very tough challenge for Luke. Walton debt may be the toughest job in the NBA right now, balancing those personalities, balancing those egos and keeping LeBron James happy. Can I respond to Mr. happy over here? Does he need to get in there and say, as I like to say, my real job is at the as the Lakers radio play by play guy. This is going to be great. It's going to be a fascinating lab experiment. Number one, we got LeBron look at the roster LeBron had last year in Cleveland compared to this roster this wrestlers just as good, maybe better. I can't wait to see how these pieces come to. And keep in mind. The Lakers young guys are all getting ready to make a jump. Brandon Ingram doubled his statistical numbers. Last year, Josh Hart was just the MVP of summer league Lonzo ball's coming off of a minor knee surgery, but I expect him to get better this year and Kyle Kuzma was the steal of the draft. I can't wait to see what this Lakers team looks like with will run as the leader. The games are going to be ridiculously exciting, and most of all, we're not going to be losing anymore. I've suffered through five straight losing seasons. The end of that is here, and I think that the Lakers are going to surprise a lot of people in the opposite of Mason. Dominique. I think the Lakers are, if you look at that roster, there's some real possibilities. I think I agree with you in part because I don't think the expectations are very high expectations are pretty low for this team right now. All the reporting about other opinions about this team is that they're the. Main team there. They're a bunch of guys who are wildcards and is no way that you can put together. And it seems like every other week, the Lakers are coming out trying to defend their roster construction and try and explain to us what they're thinking. I think what they're trying to put together as a smart team of bunch of guys who have veteran experience that are adaptable on defense can pass pretty well not as many shoot as you would like to see. But they have a couple of shooters. I think they have a decent team and they have a guy by the name of LeBron James. I don't know if you guys watch the playoffs last year, watch any basketball. James is pretty damn good, and he makes your team a contender immediately. So I think that's -tations are low. So I think they will surprise and then you look at the Western Conference. I think we talk about how heavy how stack the Western Conference is often. I think that's a bit oversold, but to be honest, you look at some of these teams that you think LeBron's going to be worse than Utah. LeBron's going to be worse than Portland LeBron's going to be worse than Denver. Like I know they're good teams, young teams that are getting better, but he's LeBron James and he has a young good coach. Luke Walton wa think is flexible and smart enough to make this team good. I think expectations are low so they will surprise Molly. Where are you on this? They're going to surprise disappoint. What do we think? What do I think people are expecting? Tell me that for fifty wins is what the expectation is an wouldn't you agree make the Ryan that just came out, said that they were ninth in the Powell ratings, right? The ratings ESPN pirating said they're nice night than they're not yet pulling up pulling up the radio. That'd be about right because there's three Eastern Conference teams, so that would put them four, five, six in the state. I think the expectations are Western Conference finals and.
