Clean energy transition will strengthen national security, Navy veteran says
"Dan. Mitch. Spent five years in the navy. When he left for civilian life, a career clean energy was not on his radar. I did not know very much about clean energy or climate change when I got out of the navy. But he got a job at the Department of Energy and as he learned more, he became passionate about the benefits of solar and wind. The clean energy transition is going to strengthen our future national security by reducing our reliance on foreign fuels, diversifying energy sources and our investments in those energy sources and mitigating the worst impacts of climate change today missions a senior fellow at the Atlantic, council and founder of the Veterans Advanced Energy Project, which recruits veterans for clean energy jobs. Most military veterans for one reason or another how a mission oriented service nature to contribute to society and defend their country both while wearing the uniform after they take the uniform off. So mich- helps them understand how working for clean energy can support national security. We hope to help make veterans feel good about what they choose to do in their post military careers.

We have a restaurant elegance I'm pretty sure my sister talked about that and we're at the restaurant. It was right after the recession. We're just to figure out how to grind kind of like right now, right? Where like what do we do? What a what do we do and customer walks in? And he asks if he can buyer mich Le Mix from the bar. And the bartender is like. Can we sell to them? And we're like yeah, sure and we empty that Tequila. Bottle filled up the guys like how much and we're like twenty five dollars, I don't know. In its very core brought down to us essence, altered beer, beer cocktail, and the the the most purest form should either. It's beer, lime and salted rim. But we were from Oaxaca so armee are are a little more complex like like everything in Oaxaca and. And Mitch Mitchell others, or it's a weird thing because you different than depending on where you are in Mexico or even La. They make it differently they'll. They'll do something different so even even in Oaxaca well. We make kind of like a mutual alibi now. Other places they call it a mutual. Other places they. Yeah, they call me WanNa win. A lot of garlic or was it wasn't. I got. Attitude a lot of. It. Along Bald, yes, bold strong. Is, this beautiful? Virgin Mary's are like the version of that right. That would be the closest cousin. Similar Bloody Mary No. It's similar, but the thing is. Beer. Oblivious has tomato juice. Tomato juice blanding agent so like tomato twenty and just kind of softens it up. So like I mean she has line base so lime base. You can tomato and make it more of a bloody. That are very. They're very late and that would, and that's the thing with culture by culture is weird and fluid especially here in La, so the on restaurant you walk into. They'll make early.

"Energy with these guys are having fun we use guys look forward to company it that's that's part of what the manager has to do ninety wins like I'm with Mitch see I'm motivated missed the call in earlier in the show well no I've heard Mitch in Warren mich is excited about the Phillies and quite frankly hearing him talk about the team gets you excited because I know he's an old school baseball guy and I know he's excited about having Joe Girardi he believes there is the matter yes and so with guys like LA and Larry bowl these all hardcore baseball guys mad right without be it's disrespectful offensive to gay tab yeah that's what you're saying yeah you know these these older guys that a former Phillies this is what they were talking about they just got all last year like they just got paroled yes what I mean is the truth it was like maybe when chip Kelly was now I can talk to speak my mind now yeah actually I mean that's what it was when you have somebody this so out of touch it is so wild lands with some of the things that they're doing the things they're saying people that have been around the game or what have you who object it disagree with a lot of this stuff what you you have an affiliation with what the organization you don't want to be on her kill in the organization for move they have that they've made so it's not going to behoove these guys to be killing Gabe Kapler even though they are old their eyes every time they heard him speak after a baseball game not at all broke up there calling games every day has to by this time long because when you're playing on course just reality yeah even Larry as Larry qualifies them as comments is be like Hey listen I like Gabe hi Joe Girardi's gonna bring this Joe the rise goal Riyad roles yes yeah if they feel that way imagine a player spill yeah they feel when they were seniors at all yeah gay we like you yes I got a problem we gave you everything yeah I mean a liking because he didn't do anything okay Sean Chester County saw what do you got how are you so yeah I'm in my being is issue and first of all I think they're gonna fall short of the playoffs sure I think Joe Girardi definitely makes them a better team they will win probably forty five games but my biggest issue is with John Milton the cigar guy because he said he goes mixed messages now he's thinking baseball team has been in the playoffs for each year seven treasures I think that she got it should be ashamed of themselves baseball not making the playoffs for eight years and after making the playoffs for five straight years but that would be you know the kind of elaborate on that a little bit more he's telling not by tiny braids Harper in by bringing Joe Girardi in anything or even on record saying that we want to win we want to win now but the problem is actions speak louder than words and he's not letting is general manager go over the luxury tax the complete this rotation at the finalized its team so that they can be a playoff team and that's frustrating because there were pictures that could have completed this rotation left handed starters that would not have even often a lot of money and also quality veteran guys that could have held this bull pen may need at least a closer worse key worst case set up guy and it's another left handed starter number three number four type to be even considered to be in the playoff conversation yes on I I mean I I there's there's a lot that you said there I appreciate it I I I don't have I don't think that the day that the boys have done a good job and building this team the fact that they're at the luxury tax level and still have as many needs as they probably do is really I mean it's reflective of the job the neckline Tekken endemic fill of done building the team yeah I'm not gonna look at John Middleton to be like Middleton you're a fraud and it like Jack's trying to say or or a lot of people out there saying they're spending their their top five salary team and the salary that they're spending doesn't match the attendance at the ballpark and certainly doesn't match their wins so they're spending money I'm not gonna be mad at John Middleton for not spending money they're spending over two hundred million dollar now this is in a metal tin thing this is more or less was Middleton that put a put a clamp on the wallet or check book and it but I understand why he's basically saying that you've spent poorly that's what he said I got a top five payroll in baseball and like you say it I still have several needs these are things you were supposed to address I'm not going to give you the ability to continue to make bad decisions right that I got to pay for this the guy you want to charge you put you over the luxury tax this guy that's pretty much what the owners and is that I've given you enough money to play with a look what you've done why is he still here that's a great question I I don't believe John Middleton shouldn't be criticized because you could also say that John Middleton was a writ was one of the reasons why contact maybe had to go in earlier than he wanted to go in and we'll never know but John middle side of last year was the year they had to do it right I I don't know how instrumental he was I don't know if he was really pushing on let's go let's go bottom line is contact has been the job he.
What's the Real History of El Camino Real?
"If you live or work on the San Francisco Peninsula you probably spent a lot of time on El Camino Royale Road that runs from San Francisco to San Jose through the center of many towns. Along the way. It's one of California's best known roads. And if you grew grew up here you probably learned about it in school. The story goes L. Community out is an ancient road built by the Spanish to connect the twenty one missions along on California's coast. But here's the thing that story. It's not exactly true. This big curious. I'm Olivia Allen Price Today. We're bringing you a story that first aired on our show back in twenty seventeen about the real history of El Camino real support for bay. Curious comes from Sierra. Nevada Brewing Company family owned operated and argued over since one thousand nine hundred reminding listeners to think for themselves but drink with others. SIERRA SIERRA NEVADA DOT COM K. Committees Rachel myrow senior editor of the Silicon Valley Newsdesk hit the trail with this week's question. Asker we met at mission in Santa Clara because this story dates all the way back to the Spanish colonial era in California. My name is Debbie Tori. I live in Campbell California Tori aspect curious the question. What can you find out about the El Camino real history? My name is Robert Cinco. wits professor of history at Santa Clara University sank quits is the man who can answer that and then some starting with the perhaps surprising truth that there were many El Camino rails all over the land. Spain used to control in the WHO world from seventeen sixty nine to eighteen twenty one royal roads. That was what you would call the main roads in any particular area because technically all of us belong to the King of Spain but wait. I read on wikipedia that this El Camino real but one in silicon valley is part of the historic mission trail on ancient fro that connects the Spanish missions. Like a string of pearls along the California coast. Also I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere possibly in school that the distance between each mission. It's supposed to be about a day's journey. What happened has to do more with southern California than it does with with Northern California a by about the eighteen seventies? As you get more and more Anglo Americans coming in the southern California and the the angle population really increases With the arrival of the railroads in Los Angeles listen the eighteen eighties now in America. There's a rich tradition of just got here yesterday. People concocting romantic origin myths and a number of influential fluential southern Californians wanted one of their own. They looked around and saw crumbling. Spanish missions twenty one of them stretching from the Mexican border all the way north to Sonoma's. Here's the story is told in Nineteen Fifty one promotional film for Greyhound buses called Freedom Highway Bridge the same road. The Spaniards followed almost two hundred years ago. Only they call it El Camino real kings highway. China imagine how was on horseback. Of course what was really going on here was the enslavement of local tribespeople. who were reeling under? The impact of European diseases forced religious religious conversion and the destruction of their entire way of life. Not that our question Asker Debbie Tori or I learned much of this in the fourth grade which is when a lot of California school. Children studied the subject. You're right they did glamorize it thinking it was a wonderful. The mission passed that they've construct was a fantasy past ROIC missionaries happy contented. Indians Fandango is all over the place. You know the Spanish mich- often enough you read and textbook that they blazed trails but they didn't blaze trails. They follow trails. That had already been developed by the indigenous people up and down the California coast I but at the turn of the twentieth century few people wanted that version of history. They wanted something fun. Happy Exotic groups like the landmarks club and the native daughters of the Golden West pushed to reframe collection of dirt roads into a rediscovered king's highway and the Automobile Appeal Club of southern California kind of sides. This fantasy past is a great way of getting people to buy drive automobiles and so what they do. is they begin. The push the notion that there was one central road which they named the commuter rail that connected the missions they began to push the notion commissions were located A day's journey from each other. You know which kind of when you think about. It makes them motels rather than what they actually were. Agents of simulation immolation of of the native peoples so wind in northern California. Play along with this southern California Fantasy Sanca wits says the concept caught on with wealthy Californians leg Jane Stanford wife of the Real Road Barren Lewin Stanford and wealthy Catholics like San Francisco. Mayor James Phelan Eland. They wanted the Spanish missions restored to something like their former glory. Lot of them were in really sad shape. If you look at pictures from the eighteen sixties exceeds eighteen seventies. The missions are crumbling. Consider this if the Spanish revival movement had not happened we might be looking at a string ruins along the California coast standing inside the sumptuous renovated mission. Santa Clara on the Modern Day campus of Santa Clara University Tori agrees. I'm actually kind of speechless. Listen here it's it's just magnificent. I feel like I'm in Europe. Then we hop in a modern day car and drive a half an hour to mission San Jose which is actually in modern day Fremont think of it as a mini mission road trip focused on the South Bay and here in Fremont we find one of the most historically accurate restorations in the California commission system and the on site museum is not to miss. debby Tori grabs a fact based map of the missions from the gift shop. So so debbie do you see yourself going on a mission tour. After this as a matter of fact yes. Tory took her kids on a mission tour like this years ago but told them a lot of Steph. She genuinely believed the turns out to be bunk. Her grandkids will get the truth. But Rachel I still have a question so every now. And then. When I'm driving along El Camino scenerio I will see a shepherd's crook on the side of the road and from the Crook hangs a bell that I have been told Marks this historic historic trail. Are those what's deal with spells. I guess those also stem back to the same period of time when people I came up with El Camino Rail There was a wife of a foundry owner in Los Angeles who conveniently suggested that she could manufacture these handy bells that were sort of reminiscent. I'm a nuisance of the Spanish era. Up and down the new route that they had just created Mrs Arbitrage C. E. Forbes and and in one thousand nine hundred ninety six cal trans decided to resurrect the bells So you'll spot him one or two miles apart on a variety of state routes because of course there isn't one route reality fantasy. Don't quite match up REX payer dollar's have helped to feed this fantasy fans. Yes well the taxpayer dollars to feed it the first time too so people are making money off of this. Yes this is a a two million dollar testament to the enduring appeal wheel of a made up version of history.

"I guess the internet's and tweets can be for even if you delete the tweet. Folks captured this stuff, and they they hang onto it. You know, hang let me grab my Twitter feed here, I want I want to search Michael Cohen's Twitter account and see if it's still active, and if he's tweeted anything recently, Michael MICH, E L C O H E N Michael Cohen to one to his account is still active. I'm clicking on it. It is not private. And oh, he tweeted recently. Michael Cohen re tweeted. Willie Geist from NBC news on December fourth who said. Wow. And then it was an NBC story that Willie guys I re tweeted the same thing or or something similar I made a comment on this. And it was about former Senator Bob Dole being helped out of that. We'll chair to salute George H W Bush. Inside the casket at the US capitol member that we talked about. I want to say it happened while we were on the one we were live on the air when that happened, and I was calling play by play on that. Because it was truly amazing. And then a prior to that Michael Cohen on twenty two November wished everyone a happy thanksgiving twenty eighteen oh, boy, you know, it's going to be brutal here, and I'm going to click on that tweet. And let's let let's check this out together. So Michael Cohen on twenty two November tweeted, wishing everyone a happy hashtag thanksgiving two thousand eighteen and then you can see the comments that people make sure some of these are going to be brutal. Paul wrote. It would make a lot of people's thanksgiving a happy one. If you could let us know your cooperation with federal investigators will lead to Trump family indictments. Oh, here's a right back at you. Mr. Cohen, happy thanksgiving. Go Michael do us proud. Back at ya. Are you sure about everyone Mr. bear wrote the anyway, there's like hundreds of responses here to Michael Cohen? So that's coming back to bite him this little Hillary Clinton tweet and Hillary Clinton's not going to prison, but Michael Cohen is gonna do three years in federal prison. Unless of course, Michael Cohen decides to utilize rule thirty five after being convicted and sentenced if he does continue to cooperate and provide information to the feds well that could reduce his thirty six month sentence. And I'm sure Michael Cohen has a lot more that he probably could cooperate with the question is is he gonna do the thirty six months now and just shut up. And hope that thirty six months three years passes quickly or is Michael Cohen going to try to utilize rule thirty-five and. Sing a little more to the feds. That's the big question here, then we have. And I think I've pretty much wrapped up on the Cohen front today. And I gave you a bunch of the quotes. And the fact that you know, he was willing to cover up the president's dirty deeds. He he does and also Hoen completely blamed Trump for putting him on his path. This is a quote path to darkness. Hi now, Michael Cohen. So you're accusing and blaming Trump for everything you did. Well, first of all that is preposterous that is disingenuous. That's been a real wagon you dope. Really? So you're going to blame. Trump your an attorney. You're a grown, man. This comes down to all. If some have Trump told you jump off the Empire State building, we told you jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you do. And that's what it comes down to something as juvenile is that..
City of Cleveland, Cavs Players Have No Ill Will Toward LeBron James
"Child. I was like seventeen years old. I went to the NBA draft party we through and I cussed out a Donnie Walsh up. Stay. Greatest memories. Take Adrian branch in the second round. I was upset about that. Anyway fans can do. I just learned at look I have a memo to fans to to two layers. It is the first layer is Bouin a really affecting a grown may like y'all think like, I hope the me you me on this like twenty thousand people sitting around here saying boo like casper somewhere FU like, I'm laughing at that one inside. But I'm played a game. Which all here's the other layer to fans at the understand if you really trying to get to me the most negative energy. You can give me is not bullying is apathy because I've been there before when you run out, and they say you'll name and you hear crickets, oh, this will. Hello am. I good Emma bowl in do. They understand. This specially when you own a road, especially when you go back to your place. I went back to buffalo went back San Diego. I've been there when they didn't say a word. Introducing ourselves Weli then I've been back to boo. And I'm like, oh, yeah. I'm the man. Oh, yeah. I got all your skin so fans, if you really want to get to them apathy is the best way. You're absolutely correct. Because the booming could actually fuel something and create a performance would which we've never seen before because he is rolling right now. But I think Dan Gilbert is leading this charge right now, and he's leading more with with love with with more with Grayson last time because he was leading with negative comments. There was no championship. He thought LeBron quit. He had all this stuff to say about a guy because they feel abandoned they felt like you just left us standing here. But now you come back in this situation, and you had to the school. You have the championship you have four finals appearances. You defense are in debt for what he's brought it as city on a basketball level. But for the economy of the city, Cleveland's a diff-. Place right now. And it's a great city right now.

"Welcome back to coast to coast, George Noory with you. Michelle with us mich- since matzec tongue was running China after he passed on China began to zoom zoom. How did they grow so fast? They China has been a growth story followed by a crash story followed by gross story, followed by a crash story throughout economic history. Actually, it's kind of interesting if you go back, and and and look the what they never managed to get right ever to sustain. It was capitalism. A free market economy. You live in China, if you speak out against the government, you're going to be in prison. I can say what I want about Trump or about President Obama or about anyone I want here in the United States. I can. Speak out against corporations, you speak out in China against state owned enterprises. Eventual you're going to be in trouble. They're gonna get you. They're going to get you. Eventually what happens in those countries is they're five year plans or tenure plans or whatever year plans blow up kind of amazing that this last one here has lasted as long as it did in China. But the under lying Bank weaknesses there with the state owned enterprises. There's fifty million empty homes. Think about that. That's absolutely enormous. It dwarfs on a percentage basis. China has a bigger population the US, but on a percentage basis triple anything that happened here, ever and more importantly, the people were buying homes now in China are buying second and third homes. They already abbot empty hall and aren't they buying up Vancouver Canada? They are that seems to have stopped. They were buying on the west coast of the US that seems to have stopped. What happened is the Chinese stock market recently has tank China has also put on capital controls. The money's hard to get out here. They've got controls on bitcoin. Now some of that money. There was hiding out in bitcoin now has to be re repatriated that's part of the bitcoin. Crash. The. Not the main reason here right now. But all of these things are adding up and look at what it did. Do I stray Australia has a genuine housing crisis here now just because China stopped buying Australian homes. This is another one of these things where it appeared. Like, there was a Howdy housing shortage in Australia. Nope. It was foreign buyers coming in the foreign buyers, exited prices are plunging, let's take some calls here. Let's go to Gail in Springfield, Missouri to get us started. Hello gale. Hello, Mr. Nori and Hello to your guests. Hi, I have noticed a trend, and I'd like to know what he thinks of the young people. I'm talking about kids that are like from sixteen to twenty twenty one. They are not. Enraptured with ordering online. They are very much wanting to go to stores they want to they want to see touch feel and they are also making these stores part of their social lives more than what they have in the past. And I'd like to know what he thinks of that trend. Okay. Is that a trend mesh my twenty four year old granddaughter loves online shopping? They I don't think that's the trend. The what seems to be happening. Well, I you know, how much money do sixteen to twenty year old kids have compared say to someone who's twenty five to thirty five for older. Well, plus, they don't have at sixteen to eighteen. They don't have credit cards, right, which you need for an online order. Right. Exactly. So you might have just hit on it. Right there. George. So they're going. They're they're looking at smaller items. It's a way to socialize not really away to buy. If you look at millennials. It's like the opposite. They'll go seek these products out. They'll go into a store look at it. They have their iphone right there. Next to them. They punch it in working. I get this thing cheaper with free shipping. That's actually the real trend. I believe I am a proponent of our truck drivers. I think the world of them. I think they keep America moving their working day and night. I'm opposed to these driverless trucks. I think this is ludicrous. Where are we headed with that kind of maneuver? I think that driverless trucks are inevitable. There's a lot of millennials that I mean, it's a tough life, George. You may hats off to these guys doing this job to job and gals and gal sliced. Lots of women truck drivers, the I've I've I've run into some. I mean, you know, hopefully, not in your car. The heart and soul. I think times they'll run into them in strange. I stop at little bars when I'm on the road, and I talked to some of these people I talk to people no matter where I go, George. I sit down somewhat I train strike up a conversation very likable with the with the person likeable or not even noisy. But I what happens though, George if you showing interest in these people anybody, they're gonna show an interest in you. I try and do that. I think is that that is driverless trucks are coming. I happen to think it's a good thing. So I don't I'm that's where you and I differ. We're going to differ on that one George. It does you like would you like a truck going seventy miles an hour behind you on an snowy icy night. The question is what we would like the question is what we think is inevitable, and I have my own readers arguing with me on that. I I've gotta posted. I'm just I'm just gonna do. Now. My my gosh, what Google Waymo now is is what is called the spin off on self driving over made a mess of things. Google didn't look at it from the floor at it from the point of view of someone who's RH getting older brab Cuban the fountain of youth. I wanted to ask you about that. Or are you hiding something on his Georgia? But but but people take take your supplements. Oh, I still am. I cure cancer. We ought to. I had to come on and talk about that one. But the my own vision actually at night is is starting to degrade. And we see it in our in our demographic where people don't want to go out. And I don't want drive. You can just, you know, get you will be able to not quite there yet to be able to get in the car. Have it take you there where it's going to happen? I I think is is it is it is it airports where people are going to land in a plane. They're not gonna have much of a choice. You know, there's going to be someone there to program that cars to take them wherever they want. It's just I don't like it. I don't like George. I will do all I can on this program mich- to fight that. Okay. Let's go to Anna niacin, Fort Myers, Florida. Hello there at an IS morning brothers. Good to have you with us. Thank you. I have a comment to your guest. I because folks presumption I gotta say that. Thanks cannot fail. The money for so called money. They make is is just keeping in trees. And. This is I can only come up with one word that people are being pond economically to support a lie. You know, someone in a back office of Bank, use a computer to. Well, you you you are spot on on many things that you just said at a Nias one of the things that will fail with a Bank will be these smaller banks because the bigger banks don't want these little community banks growing and popping up bright. Mitch I agree with you on that George one hundred percent the as to the fraud aspect, absolutely fractional. Reserve lending is fraud is inherently fraudulent if I had one hundred tons of wheat in my house, and I lent out a million tons of it. I would immediately be in trouble. If I had if I this is what banks do the people have this misconception that banks Lynn from deposits. They don't if a Bank thinks it has a credit worthy borrowers. And sometimes they make mistakes like they did announcing bubble, right? They create. They loan money into existence that did not exist before what I believe needs to happen is we need to go to a one hundred percent reserve system or banks cannot create money out of thin air like they're doing and who benefits from all of this. It's the guy that's first in line to get the money who is that. That's the banks. That's the already wealthy by the time. The banks are willing to lend to that guy on the bottom of the poll. He shouldn't take that long. This is what happened in the housing crisis. Remember to keep the housing bubbles going to keep lending to more and more and more speculative borrowers until the whole thing. Blew up the guys on the front end of it. Either got their money out or they got bailed out by the fed. The guys on the tail end of this lost their house. Houses. This is what's going on? This is a fraudulent economy. But it's not just the US. This is global. Let's go to Eric truck driving Indiana here. He is I Eric. George good to have you with us. Oh, yeah. Everybody knows who they said. Anyway, I've been talking for about twenty six and a half years. Now, I've been worked for the same company for almost next month will be twelve and a half years I haul groceries for a living, and I am doing far better than I was eight years ago when I first started trucking for this company, which is we offer the largest grocery chain in the country. There was times where I would go to work and we'd sit around four or five hours just waiting all those and this was just ridiculous. I was ready to bail and go somewhere else. For some time. Now, it's like sues. I get to work bone the loads there, and I go, and we hardly we rarely have guys sitting around anymore and right now for the holidays. Oh, I'll tell you what we're just smoking. How far do you Dr Eric, and what shift you're on at night most of the time, right? Yes, I'm on at night most of the time, and I basically go to I travel course, round Indiana, and I go to Illinois once in a while, I go to Missouri and today on a very rare run I went just north of the border up to Michigan after Sturgis Michigan. And I hall I've hauled all kinds of stuff basically dry box and refer did flatbed Scher for a short amount of time back in the nineties. But what I'll tell you what there's a blizzard outside. You really don't want to be after Tarpon download now who unloads is the truck driver responsible for unloading the truck to a lot of times. It depends on where you go. Most of the time. We have what they call. Power jacks, and we'll unload sometimes the scores themselves they liked to unload it. So my hurt my feelings. No, hope it opened the door and just sit and watch. Right. Oh, yeah. Severally? Of four I worked for this company. I hauled underground lawn furniture for about three years, and I've just told all kinds of stuff, and sometimes you've got a back up into the dock. So how in the world is a driverless truck going to do that kind of stuff. It's not because when you have to make split-second reactions here, you're going down the road and all of a sudden brake check, you know, which in trucker lingo. That means all you see is brake lights, and you got a hit those brakes, and sometimes you have to stand on those breaks. You're driving down the road. And it's four now rain, and you just can't always drive sixty five seventy miles an hour. And for a lot of people, Eric they need to know trucks. Can't stop on a dime. So don't cut in front of a truck, especially if traffic slows down you're gonna get rear ended. Oh, exactly. I mean. And even state troopers will tell you, and there's many police officers listening right now and a lot of them. We'll tell you. If there's a wreck where there is a truck involve chances are it was the little car. Get in front of the truck stopping on a dime. Exactly. I got a question for Eric George. Yeah. Go ahead. How much of your hauling is is short. Do you get to return to your house every night or are you on the road overnight? Or or is there is so much demand. For of these the these short Hollings, you get to return home every night. Most of the time. I do this week. I've been stuck out. And sometimes it's just the luck of the draw on what happens on the run. Sometimes you go out there and anything that can happen does happen. Like, I was going to get real close to get home last night. And I got in a bunch of Rhode destruction. That was just stopping crawl where do you sleep Eric you sleep in the cab? Yeah, I was I have a sleeper truck. It's got its own restroom, facilities and stuff or do. You have to go out on that. Oh, I have to go out for that. Okay. And one thing I always liked to remind people of at any truck driver who's listing and there's a bunch of brothers and sisters all I if any chocolate. But out here for any length of time. We like to give a message to all those networks out there that don't like truck drivers. I call it thirteen words. And what that is is if you have it, it's because a truck driver brought it to you know, that's true. Eric, thanks. I was good. Having you on the program? See that's what I mean this. These these men and women are out there working daily hard. You can't put a driverless truck out there. Yours. There's a difference here between the I don't think these the the type of job that he's mainly on is going to go away. The the what they're what they're gonna do though is. In fact, we probably gonna need more of those kinds of drivers if anything the the I'm envisioning like point to point where just on the interstates mazer maybe major highways where the truck drives itself to the next spot. Eventually someone's gotta take that baby..
Where the idea for Method cleaning products began
"Were you noticing in nineteen ninety nine that eventually would lead to cleaning products what was going on around you? I was working on a project for Colgate, so I spent a lot of time in the grocery store, and I just started looking at the cleaning. I'll and saw that it was such a big category, but a sea of sameness, like everything looked and smelled the same. The brands were pretty dated. And so that was kind of clue of dig here. But I mean, you're twenty five. I get you working on an ad campaign for Colgate, so that makes sense. You start to get some exposure to that industry, but like it could have been anything. I mean, it could have been chewing gum like you could have. What was it that that made you think wait a minute cleaning supplies would really like, I think with any idea, you start off from his absolute place of insecurity. Like when I mentioned this, my mom, she's like, I've never seen you make your better, you sure you're the right person to start a cleaning products business. So I hid the products underneath my bed because I didn't is pretty dorky. I didn't want anybody to know. I was even thinking about this category in Adami. We're both back in Michigan and we were driving up north early morning to go skiing and being close friends. If I'll like Adam was somebody I could share an idea with is the winter of ninety. Nine presumably going skiing. An even know there were skiing in mich-. Again, but keep going. It is technically skiing. Okay. And I mentioned that, hey, I think there may be an opportunity in this space, and I remember Adam looks over may as he's driving and goes, you know, have a degree in chemical engineering. That would be useful. And then we just it was sort of one thing leading to another that innocent. Well, you know, not only these products really ugly, but did you know they're super toxic as well? Yeah. And that was kind of where one idea gets added to another and it kind of goes from there. But I, the one point to remember is we got there to go skiing. And we went up the first chairlift and we did a couple of runs it. We realized we more excited to go work on this idea that we were to keep skiing. So paint the picture for like cleaning supplies. Approx ninety nine. Like if I'm going into Safeway in nineteen ninety nine. I'm going to get four zero. Nine. I'm gonna get mister clean writing, really strong sense. There was kind of like eat of your eyes weren't watering. It means it wasn't cleaned. It was it was a pretty toxic category into Adam's point. That was the thing that he brought that really opened my eyes. It's like you mean like you actually plu when you clean and you use poison and make your home healthier.
