"About this Miami, Miami University sports program, you guys have you've really helps build up and, and set up for success. With you guys. Have your own Esports from like you were mentioning an arena, all this other stuff. I mean, how I guess supportive has a university, been of the recent expansions you guys have had recently. It's been quite, it's been going quite well, we have full support of President. Crawford, who is just more than ever excited about everything? He Sports specifically rocket league, so shoutout. Oh wow. Um, he's a huge fan, he and dr. Alexander who was a co-director for the program. Our chairs on in the new Mac conference. That's being started. That's going to start working this. But specifically Maggie Sports. Oh, it was it was a tough first year because I think as you know the first program nobody quite knew how successful job. Going to be, we didn't have a ton of support, but I think when President Crawford came in, he's a relatively new president, things became things, hit the ground really fast, and we started rolling quite quickly off. So, we've got a lot of support right now, but it wasn't always that way. And it's, it's that's quite common at universities where that first year is tough. Yes. But right now, we're in a good spots. I mean, you guys have been pretty pretty good so far, but tell me what were some of the accomplishments you guys have had over the course of your tenure, right? Like what package being shipped, can you tell us about brag about us? You brag about a little bit, you know? Oh yeah. For sure. We are. I I'd say that we're University your first and I mean it are are pushed him their first year, won the National Association for Collegiate. Esports, tournament Heritage first place, they're legal Legends got first runner-up which is its second but it's a first you go home. Both OverWatch and League of Legends won the National Collegiate. Esports tournament in Akron in 2019, nice. This year. I'm skipping years a little bit and kind of going every other year this year, OverWatch one of these Sports Collegiate Series. So they got first place there, Hearthstone red or like french fries. Don't team got first runner-up in Hearthstone, Collegiate home, and Rocket League. White is in playoffs right now. League of Legends, just got first runner-up in thier tournament. So we first start just a part of what we do. We've been ranked, I believe we would first either first or second, a sports program by Berkley. Maybe. Yeah. It was, it was, it was any, any research study. We were ranked off your second, youth sports program. We also are the first University to release any sports grad program. So now we have any sports graduation certificate for grad students High School There you go. And so, I mean, what has been your proudest moment working with the program so far? You guys have had a lot of Firsts, but what is your personal favorite moment to think back to? When you say this was one of the best highlights so far. I'd have to pin it down to immediately come to mind and neither of them actually have a first in them. The first one I'm thinking of is dead before. The Backstreet Boys 2 Ur, the rocket League team went to North Carolina for a tournament and we didn't do great. There were actually technical issues in the middle of the turn off the computer. Shut off. Completely for like forty minutes. Wow. It was, it was a, it was an unstable tournament but after the tournament they just we had a great evening. You know, I told em, I said, we're not here to be a sports players anymore. I want you guys to have a good time, so we just played Jack box all night, and we ordered pizza and just the memories that I was able to make with that team after the tournament meant the world to me. And I think that that's a lot of what Collegiate e Sports is about is, you know, first places and scholarships and stuff, that's all nice. But this is, this is called in. This is the club. Periods. And I want them to be able to have that. I mean, that's all important, right? Just a lot of people nowadays when they focus on these programs, just not even just a sports in terms of just football basketball athletic General, the same thing happens where you focus so much on that in school, you don't have any time to really sit back. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy the company you're with and I'm glad that one of your favorite moments is actually, like, kind of small slice of life that you guys found after after a lackluster tournament, right? Yeah, yeah. We're really, we were fortunate with that group. I don't think we've ever really had a group that hasn't changed. This every team is like family to each other. In that, that means the world to me, seeing them, being able to interact with each other. In a way that isn't just in game or OverWatch team have dinner last week just because they wanted to. So having a family as well as a team means, means a lot to me to see them have that. And so four people on the outside looking in, right? You guys. Yep. Basically, you know, close-knit family type almost for a program. It's, it's almost unheard of that. So many different branches of a program just come together. So often is this how do you join? Is it an exclusive thing is our tryout phase. How can people join out of the varsity squads or the junior varsity squads? So It is not exclusive first off, anyone that is at Miami University's able to try out if you're interested in even incoming recruits. If you're a junior or senior and you're interested in Miami, we do offer a tryout process off for you have to commit so you can try out here and we can see if we'll recruit or off your scholarship money. I mean it's also not limited to a certain year, you can be a grad student. If you're interested in playing as a grad or it's not interest limited, excuse me to any particular major we do have bio Majors calculus Major's you don't just have to be a games major to play sports here, the trial process is open down, there are typically two rounds of tryouts. One is the open round and then one is the more like, okay, we saw what you can do, we saw your skill rating, we're doing a hard cut and then we're going to try out those people after that. And then all you have to do to trade out is getting contact with one of us will direct you to the team captain for the team. You're interested in and they can discuss with you in coming tryouts. You know, team requirement to need a job. Possible scholarship, all that good stuff. Just you know, if you're a grad student and you're you're playing games on the side. First of all, I don't know how you got time to do all that, you know, and grad school props, major props go. You should have all like she don't know if that'll affect grades at all. But good luck. Good luck with sad. Yeah. So you're vented how to add a join? What's what's I guess? The next big step for this program. I think that they need to undertake or I guess adding a new Varsity squad. What's the the next big step for you guys? Interestingly enough the I don't know if it's going to be adding Varsity squads, but it's, it's really kind of narrowing down our focus on the fact that we are very grass-roots program and we've really like being and grass-roots program. We like being able to take a group of folks for like, I don't know Madden who say, you know, we want to put together a Madden team and you'll be good and then we just do it. That's something we really like to do. But we are at the intersection of a grass-roots program in a like an elite Varsity program and wearily fob programmed will really focus on two or three games in, Grassroots will focus on seven and eight are question. Becomes, do we want to stay Grassroots and have all of those games and be able to support all of that? Or do we may want to take that Elite Varsity, route and focus on two or three? So that's kind of where we're at right now in terms of our next big Endeavor. But also these birth Certificates of these programs are a big Focus for us as well. Something that I've always said, is that Miami University. We don't focus on you know in our resource program we don't focus on E sports package, the present we focus on it in the future and what I mean by that is we train our players and we give them the education to stay in this career path post-graduation. So having these Esports certificates may be Sports classes and programs will allow our players to continue learning about e-sports, even beyond the time that they're able to play and stay in the field and enjoy Esports, even if she's not in front of the computer. That's awesome. And so you guys are doing great things at this at this with the c sports program. I wish you guys the best of luck but want to get in touch with. You took the the program, how can they do that? Any Social Media stuff, they should be aware of absolutely art, which is pushed. TV /. Miami University, you can check us out there. And in that game, Jared Patterson Rushed 36 times for 409 yards. That's 11.4 yards average and eight touchdowns and that ties a major college record eight touchdowns with long gain of 62. Jared Patterson. Wow. What a performance today for the Buffalo Bulls. And then Vanderbilt's Sarah Fuller. Wow. You talk about making some some news. Unbelievable. She makes power five College football history. Kicking off for the Vanderbilt Commodores in the second half and She becomes The first woman football player. In power, five conference history and Just one of only three women to play in an FBS game, joining Katie. Night off. H and idea of New Mexico and April Gauss of Can state Wow, Sarah Fuller. Sarah said after the game. Honestly, it's just so exciting. Even though we're team lost the Missouri 41 to nothing. The fact that I can represent all the girls out there that have wanted to do this or thought about playing football or any sport, really. Intern encourages them to be able to step out and do something big like this. It's awesome. And then she says, all I want to do Is be a good influence to the young girls out there because there were times I struggled in sports, but I'm so thankful that I stuck with it, and it's given me so many opportunities. And I've met so many amazing people through sports. And I just want to say that literally you could do anything you set your mind to Congratulations to Sarah Fuller, who is Vanderbilt's goalkeeper on the Southeastern Conference champion women's soccer team for the Commodores. And because of covert 19. Issues with the special teams. Vandy needed a kicker. So the coach is called Sarah. And head or try out. She kicked well, and she kicked off in the second half today in Vanderbilt's 41 that nothing lost to the Missouri Tigers. So Jared Patterson, a Buffalo Vanderbilt, Sarah Fuller, The Detroit Lions making history today, just a few days after their loss on Thanksgiving Day to the Houston Texans, the Lions fire head coach Matt Patricia. Right off of Bill Bella Chicks coaching tree from a New England Alliance, the lion's part ways with head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn, and now speculation is going to intensify. That Eric be enemy. Highly deserving of a head coaching job in the National Football League. He is the offensive coordinator. The Kansas City Chiefs, the world champion Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Eric the enemy. Has to get an NFL head coaching job. Could it be in Detroit when the season ends? Or could it be with the Houston Texans? Their job is also open. Both teams now working with interim head coaches. Like we've mentioned a couple times today. Already, Penn State gets its first win of the season at the expense of the Michigan Wolverines. 27 17. And Hi, hiding the heightening the speculation about the future of Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the Wolverines. He's got one year left on his contract, which is highly unusual. She makes over $8 million a year. You can't have a head coach become a lame duck. You either get rid of him after this season or you Extend him. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens in the future of Jim Harbaugh all In college football at the University of Michigan. And could he stay in Ann Arbor? Or will he get axed? And could he move on? Could you come back to the National Football League? It's so it's going to be interesting to find out and ESPN national is mentioning. University of Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell is a possible replacement. For Jim Harbaugh in Michigan. And like I mentioned a Tony hunter or guest at seven o'clock tonight. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. He just blasted U. S. A today reporter Paul Meyer Berg for not mentioning fighting Irish quarterback Ian Book among the top 10 quarterbacks. In college football. Kelly did what any coach probably would in that a stick up for his guy. I think he and book is a terrific player and I think we're going to see him on Sundays in the National Football League. Engineering. The fighting Irish Offense in the number two ranked team in the nation. Hand off. They stay clean the rest of the way. They're headed to the college football playoff Final four. No doubt. Now, here's the situation facing the Ohio State Buckeyes, and we'll get to that after we take a break. I've got my coffee. I've got my computer..

Arctic fires are burning more intensely

"Arctic is known for cold and snowy winters. But in summer wildfires can rage across the tundra. Fire is not something that we are surprised to see in the arctic. We'll we're surprised to see is how much there is in the past two years. That's jessica mccarty assistant professor of geography and director of the geospatial analysis center and miami university in ohio. We're seeing fire start sooner lasting longer burning more intense and appear to be burning in ecosystems that previously we thought were fire resistant as these fires get bigger. So does the amount of global warming pollution they released to the atmosphere. That's because there's a lot of carbon trapped in the arctic. Much of it is in pete. Thick layers of partially decayed plant material laid down over thousands of years. When the pete burns or heat from a fire melt the permafrost the stored carbon is released to the atmosphere. The twenty twenty arctic fire season has released more carbon dioxide than any of the years previous that we have on record so more extreme. Arctic fires are not only a sign that global warming is here. They are making the problem

Zombie fires a growing risk in the warming Arctic

"During warm month's wildfires can burn across the Arctic. When fall arrived cooler wetter weather usually helps extinguish the fires. But some only appear to be gone despite the blanket winter snow the reemergence spring returning to life. Like. Themis. Jessica McCarty is director of the Geospatial Analysis Research Center at Miami University in Ohio she says Zombie, fire can occur when wildfire Burns peatlands areas that are covered with carbon rich layer of dead plants. The fire gets so hot that it burrows down into the Pete and moves underground even after the surface fire is extinguished so that when Spring Melt occurs, it dries out the soil above it and allows the fire to reemerge on the surface. She says, Zombie fires are a growing risk as the climate warms. Permafrost, thaws as more Arctic peatland dries out they'll just be more fuel for them to burn said the likelihood of them doesn't crease for that reason. These fires are hard to find monitor in the Arctic. Because of harsh winter weather so like their namesake Zombie fires are difficult to kill.

"You like Tohave galactic time travel? That's awesome, loving the creativity in these answers, he said. Junior high school You saw yourself being on feelers, their story buying that. Yeah. My brother went to a Miami university and he was two years older than me, and I was sitting there. Very creative in high school, and I said, We should really do something. So he's first started by creating T shirts on screen printing, and it led to creating the first men of Miami calendar. For Miami University. That's awesome. That was kind of your first entrepreneurial endeavor, and you were like I can do this cool and then let's circle back to the meditation thing. So many entrepreneurs meditate. I talked to them all the time, and I can tell you there's quite the theme going on. Do you do that? Because that's a grateful tone for your day You mentioned that you think about your wife and your daughter. That's so sweet is that doesn't really help you said. Maintain perspective. It's I live right on the Teach. And so I have a beautiful ocean sitting like you, which is a great start to any day, But then I was thinking The best way to put yourself in a great mood for businesses to think about all these things that are important to you and how they relate to business, So I start with the family. And then I think of certain things about my wife that I love certain things about my daughter that I love. And that puts me in a great mood. And I'm very thankful for that. Then I start to roll that out to the business. And I say, What are we doing in business? How is it going? What great interactions have. I had not only with our team, but also with our clients. And we've got a killer team of people that are always blowing my mind on a daily on a weekly basis s o. I'm very thankful for that. And I think of those things, and then I think how it all kind of relates to A grander DL Actiq relationship between doing the right things and appreciating the things that you have in order to then turn that into something where you can actually help other people, which would be in our case clients where we work with brands, agencies and entertainment companies, and we bring all of that energy in that power. Through us all working together and delivering it. So that's how you start your Yeah, it's important to bring a good positive energy into your business. That's amazing. The trickle down effect. So what would you say? Is your definition of being an entrepreneur? I think what I look at his first you have to have create ideas. I know a lot of people who come to me and say I have this great idea, and that's just one piece of it. In the beginning. It's just the beginning. But execution on that idea is the difference between an entrepreneur and someone who has a lot of great ideas. And so I think if you're going to be an entrepreneur, first and foremost, you have to say, Do I have a great idea? Has anyone done this great idea if they've done it before, Can I do it better? And, um, I actually creating something new. That isn't a me too, right. So when you read say, like Peter Thiel's book, 0 to 1. That is a great book for entrepreneurs to read to understand. You don't want to just be created me, too, that you can. Then you know, blueprint across the globe. You want to create something that's truly knew. Like uber. It didn't exist before uber was created. That is a great Entrepreneurial story, But it's more than that. Because then you actually have to act on that You have to execute on it. So then you have to say, Oh, my God, We're going to need money to execute on this. We need to prove our minimum viable product. Once you've proven your minimum, viable product, then you have to say, Oh, my God, We've got to get more money. And so now we have to get money so we can actually build the product go to market. And then while you're doing that, you're going to need more money. Because people cost money and teams cost money..

Trevor Noah condemns Trump's COVID-19 Response

"Back to the daily social distancing show and yes, we are still social distancing pretty soon the top of my head is going to be six feet away from my forehead. That's the plan. That's how I'm going to measure my distance from people hey, what's going on becks they s see you know the reason we still social distancing is because the coronavirus is still spreading, and this is thanks partly to people not taking it seriously. So let's catch up in another installment of our ongoing segments the pandemic. I our pandemic coverage, Hicks off in Utah State in desperate need of the l shaped tetris piece. We now know that one of the easiest ways to stop the spread of coronavirus is just to have everybody where a mosque unfortunately telling everyone to wear a mosque is also one of the easiest ways to spread idiocy after more than one weeks in schools have reopened in Washington County Liberty, action coalition hosted a rally in front of the school district building. This morning up to a thousand people showed up saying the children being forced to wear masks in classrooms is illegal and even unconstitutional. Now have gathered here in front of the Washington County. Administration building calling for. The end of a mouse mandate. If we want to wear a mask, that's fine we can take care of ourselves when George Floyd was saying I can't breathe and then he died and We're wearing a mask and we say I can't breathe but we're for story anyway I'll tell you another reason I'd hate mass most child molesters love them God. Damn. These people were crazy. In fact, you know what they should have. Let them storm the school building because maybe they would have accidentally learn something like I'm still trying to process everything that was going on at that rally no matter how many times I watched that video i. still find new things to process. Like that video is the closest thing I've seen to facebook comments happening in real life I like individual freedom wipe people are the real George Floyd. Happy. Birthday Martha Mask wearing was invented by Jeffrey Epstein. Oh and here's another reason it's hard for Americans. To get the pandemic under control even places do have rules for social distancing. This is how some people follow them growing concerns over Cova clusters especially on college campuses in Ohio police cited several people in a house near Miami University during the Labor Day weekend body camera footage captured a stunning exchange between an officer and a student or there's So, you probably know where I wanNA talk to too many people but you know the the ordinances ten people. Yeah. How many people are in the house? Twenty twenty people inside. You Might WanNa start clearing off the I've never seen this before there's an input on the computer that you tested positive for covid. When was this was? A week ago are you supposed to be quarantining? That's why I'm on my house do you have other people here and you? You're positive for Kovin? We WanNA, keep the site open. That's why. We're so screwed. The main part of quarantine isn't about being at your house, my friend. It's about being away from other people so that you don't spread the disease I'm scheduled. Know where this guy puts a condom on his buddy at this point I'm glad it's just corona virus. Can you imagine this dude handling Ebola wait so I'm not supposed to eat a monkey. Because I got to tell you there was some confusion there. Oh and just by the way. Watching this police officers body cam footage was like virtual reality game called white privilege because this kid was clearly breaking the law but the cups tone of voice sounds like he was telling him today specials Hieaux could I interest you and not breaking the law today? Get a few minutes to think it over and I'll come back so. Some people are misinformed some people a crazy and some people are both. People. Like Donald jaundiced trump president of the United States and one man super spreader overnight at a packed indoor rally president trump breaking Nevada's covid restrictions to court voters. In the key battleground state, we're going to win to that speaking to a throng of mostly mask Liz supporters, his first indoor rally nearly three months. The state prohibits gatherings of more than fifty people but trump defiant of the governor comes after you which you shouldn't be doing. I'll be with you all the while those behind the president and in front of the cameras wore masks, most of the crowd did not. But that didn't bother supporters like meal. Christianson who camped out overnight I'm not wearing a mask that's a shows that I trust my president. Okay look. I. Get why trump fan would have trusted trump before. But how do you still trust this off the he admitted that he's been downplaying the coronavirus this whole time I don't get it. I really don't get what do you mean you trust and this is like believing the Nigerian e mail scam off the he tells you that he's a Nigerian email scam although I'm a small time criminal pretending to be a wealthy prince. Will Send me some money. You know what? I liked this guy's honesty I will send him fifty thousand dollars and as for trump. How you call yourself the presence of law and order when you openly flouting the law and not even for a noble reason. No, it's just so that he can spend nineteen minutes ranting about how vegetables invented by the deep state and Hillary. Clinton and this isn't just about breaking the law. What Donald Trump is doing here is actually dangerous. The last time trump held an indoor rally. He lost twenty five percent of his black friends. So there you have it. Everyone from college students to grandma's to the president himself is helping this virus continue spreading. But I guess. That's the genius of America's Corona Virus Response. Unlike other countries that are preparing for the second wave America realized you don't have to deal with the second wave. If you never get over the first.

We recently attended the national press club's annual book fair in Washington DC and spoke with Brian Marshall and Bruce wolf beat on the one hundred eleventh congress, Bruce warping, your your book is called the committee. What committee and we're talking about? We're talking about the committee on energy and commerce. Henry Waxman, became chairman of the committee right after Obama was elected in two thousand eight and I knew it was going to be an historic time because Obama's legislative agenda was gonna come through the committee on energy and commerce. And so I I was Henry's first legislative assistant in one thousand nine hundred seventy five I came back from Australia to join his staff. And become part of the senior staff. And I thought I want to keep a journal from day one on the work of the committee because I thought it was gonna be of enduring legacy. And that's what this book is. It's a history of the committee and how it did. Are we passed ObamaCare tobacco oversight like the BP oil spill some budgets off and cap and trade energy climate. And this book tells the story of how congress can work with good leadership and good policy, and we think it's relevant for what may happen in the days ahead. It would start to shut itself off like around sixty five or seventy miles an hour. So we'd pull over and turn it off. And then turn it back on and it would go for a little more. And then it would shut itself down again. Okay. So it's just slowing down slowing down. Well, and then it just cut out. You know, it'd be like at fifty and it would just cut out and die and coast over to the side of the road. Right. Exactly. Very dangerous. My dad, and I was driving down with me. What to take me to school? And luckily, my mom was fouling too. So case something really bad happened duck you off. Good luck Kelly. Exactly if you ever get into running Christmas. Yeah. All right. So the mechanic, I went to rebuilt the Cairo later and put in new needles votes that didn't work so at Christmas. I brought it home..
