"I'll tell you what I'm just overwhelmed by this out so many people want to talk about someone important in their lives that gave their life for their country you know try to do this in a democratic way with a small D. Glenn from Florence has been holding the longest good morning gland good morning Mike who would you like to recognize this morning clan I'd like to recognize the man that was in my unit fourteen combat engineers he was lost in Vietnam December of nineteen sixty seven I I recognize him because he has no family well it's a long long story if you'd like to talk me off the air I can tell you sure but if it if you want to get my phone number that is sure I will but yeah he has no family so I make sure that he's remembered so what is his name Somers okay and you know the Vietnam War coming back from the Vietnam War gland from everything that I've read now is a very young man at the time you guys did not get the reception unfortunately that the Gulf War vets had upon returning to the United States from what I hear and understand it was just shameful the way that the Vietnam vets were treated is that in my accurate about that well I had garbage thrown at me in Chicago if that adds advances the questions and I'll tell you that is a black spot on our nation's history and it still makes my blood boil but I really appreciate you recognizing your friend gland I really do okay thank you okay thank you wow yeah I tell you the Vietnam War I was in grade school when it was being fought towards the end of it but I do remember the stories about that going through an airport and and like we just heard being spat upon that's not right and again that is a sad sad chapter in our nation's history how about mark good morning mark Hey good morning Mike one of the you have a number of guests on your app just feel very very humbled to listen to a number of the stories going on in a number of he then you had a guest on here about twenty minutes ago that talked about the things that don't get the notoriety that was general Tom o'brien the one the very very first one that I remember there's two of them that they will never forget and unfortunately their name sixty eight me but they were members of my unit I did not have charge of them they were members of my unit and we had a a CH forty six on the very very first deployment in nineteen eighty five in Korea in the park at night and they we had an injured marine and the pilot co pilot crew chief a corpsman in the injured marine power line all and and that was not training we were in a training mode that's real and then and we were in the battle of cop G. into the storm and we had a practice site incident and that was the first time that we actually had I was prepared for shepherd but the point of the spear that pursuing the vision and we pushed a little bit into Saudi Arabia we had eyes on the bad guys at the time and the integration of calling we weren't as good as we are today analysts and we lost seven rings at night and they were in my battalion and I knew I was about seven miles to their right flank at the time and that yes he Mike in his schedule I can understand that and it gets you you're not the first veteran that that it is is described that this morning and I really appreciate your story marketing I don't I don't want to keep any more time and just say what I want to tell you it really isn't a brochure and business partners everybody out there in the in the in the field of business wherever they do in your line of business that you do you see the devotion the first was ponders whether it's in the the top of the roof and he emptied the people that are doing what they're doing with cold it right now definitely in the military I've never seen devotion like I saw in the military for god's sake it's just devotion to save people they are not being memorialized today absolutely marks and thank you so much for that story and thank you for your twenty two years of service with the United States Marine Corps how about William in Indiana good morning William Hey I don't mind I'm fine tell us about your uncle who passed away in Vietnam well my uncle Richard maker Linde from Miami county Ohio served in Vietnam in nineteen sixty seven and he died one day after his birthday nineteen sixty seven how old would he have bad we would have been twenty seven years old that day a young man yes Sir while in one the bank all the veterans out there hello Sir this my whole family we really appreciate it all right well thank you for your service women thanks for remembering your uncle today thank you all right you too wow twenty seven years old now that probably is a little bit older than most people young men are overwhelmingly young men there were some women that serve to obviously and they're as nurses and support capacity but yeah maybe I should have asked me maybe his uncle enlisted in the marine corps could you could be drafted in the marine corps enlisted at a later age so we're thankful to him and his service and his uncle service as well let me get to let me talk to dean in Columbus now I know dean is a veteran so we're gonna talk to him Hey good morning dean right a blessed holiday to you thank you you too I'm fine thank you Sir we've talked a number of times a little bit about your military service and I know your Vietnam vet what would you like to save this Memorial Day dean well I'm looking at the history channel N. may have worn a the nam and I definition in two years that I was there from a win in March of nineteen sixty seven and I came home early nineteen sixty eight what branch D. army okay I was in the army and I was in the first aviation brigade and Ron Talbot now we flew for they'd be great one because they were basic infantry yes we flew helicopters in attack after protection for them wow any any your buddies from over there do you want to recognize this morning well yeah one would roll call for he was in the marines and another which James Woodward he was in the marines they both well Jane's got killed in Vietnam with Nate the came to his parents house the city had been shot but he actually really D. it may have to come back a few days later and break the news to them that he had actually been us passed away from that horrible and then would won't always who we in college I got now you know who we in college and I called home and my mother told me they found him dead in the alley also breeding world somewhere with a needle step produced thank god I found out he started doing that doing heroin while he was in Viet nam indeed that was a problem over there wasn't here should work yeah the work because the early night you could bring that stuff back nobody checked your luggage right you know what about the magnitude nineteen sixty nine of seventy three forty we check your luggage coming back you can just bring anything back Viet nam and in the sixties early sixties I mean to make that sacrifice and go through that danger over there only to come back home and like you just said died in an alley with a needle in your arm is that's a tragedy and I would like to say this is Mike Shuster all the veterans out there suffering with mental health issues with alcohol or drug issues please go to your nearest VA hospital or clinic because there are people there that will help you six do you not tell you what as always you providing us with some some good knowledge and information really appreciated and appreciate your servicer we have a good day you too thank you wow yeah I I mean think about that what do you just said that you hear a lot of those stories that guy goes across the the ocean to serve his country in Vietnam doesn't honorably and bravely but unfortunately while there engages in some contact back doesn't have a good effect only to come home and died with a needle in your arm in the alley and what tell you what dean calls frequently and he's a wise guy and the last thing he said is absolutely true if you're having these struggles contact the V. A. N. you know I know the first words out of some people's mouth without a V. eight is this the V. A.'s that bought from things I've heard things I've read it's getting a lot better and veterans deserve that type of care Hey we gotta take a break but will be back my calendars radio seven hundred WLW we now America's workforce is resilient and at the DMV area begins.

"Jeannie if you missed any of it you can catch on the podcast we have a podcast now that's got our name on it I was kind of weird we don't have it that's called mark Thompson show but we usually when you go to the podcast richer's KGO eight ten is kind of weird like you didn't really everybody else had a specific show name and if I were given to taking things personally would have bothered me but I didn't really care so it's it's stay that way for many months but now it's changed now you are at the adults table yeah and now all of a sudden I do care hello anyway but as a palette cleanser to some of the things coming we have coronavirus update and some other things still to come but as a palate cleanser the a bizarre story and this story is I thought a story that comes out of Florida because the arrest was made in Miami county but it's not that Miami is it Brett it's its Miami of of Ohio I think it was that right okay yeah Miami county Ohio but it's a local story because the attack happened in Pleasant Hill and the attack was over bacon it's it's bizarre I mean it is an angry America the president left that out people are looking to fight over things and in this case they're fighting over bacon so what happened here so apparently the this man the victim here I was making his morning breakfast with bacon and apparently the alleged attacker was arguing with him about the bacon and the amount of bacon that he was eating so the also apparently this the attacker grabbed this victim by the back of they had put a razor blade to his neck and then caught him this is again this is happening over on sugar Grove road in Pleasant Hill and somehow he makes it to Ohio where he was arrested and is now in the bottle the jams Miami county sheriff's jail so he was on the run yeah from this entire incident but what a temper man he grabbed the guy by the back of the head and put a razor blade to his neck and caught him and cut him over the amount of bacon that the victim was eating so then he was eating too much bacon is what the other guy was here apparently I am about that's right now so he's behind jail the bond has been set at fifty thousand dollars right now yeah I got let's hope he doesn't end up in judge Judy's court I don't think she'll she'll take too kindly to it I do I I do I make that's exactly right he sounds like he's got some other issues I would suggest respectfully no doubt yeah yeah but it is only it's a story that you would expect to come out of Florida it also sounds a guy reserved no scar from down all that bacon might have some issues to be honest so maybe it's two guys with issues a corona virus update out of SFO next on KGO mark Thompson show on KGO eight ten San Francisco station up to the minute impeachment coverage three G. "Welcome to Friday slowly seven hundred W. other about this time yesterday point guard I got to talking a little bit and it turned into a long segment about Lisa Wellesley swells of course forty one years old she's an attorney mom of two wife of way for Brian and about three years ago she ran in some trouble she threw a difficult pregnancy in some other issues was prescribed by her doctor a under Kotick which happens a lot but unfortunately for her as it happens with far too many that she wanted becoming an addict we know the nature of the entire narcotics family and specifically when it comes to the opiates that there's a trigger that we don't know something happens the brain with a certain percent of the population that literally because of them the instantly physically addicted to it I remember talking to Lisa following her about via after after she was arrested for a ovih I stop up in Miami county Ohio which is your Troy and there she was pop there she had prescription medicine whether that wasn't hers clearly she was under the influence of the time and she faced a judge in court as a result of those indiscretions and I remember talking her on the show and lease at the time said yeah I'm in recovery I'm doing better I realize it's gonna be struggle it's gonna be hard and in getting in the conversation with her about the nature of this addiction is it listen to because I I you know I got prescribed this stuff and I realize once I went off it no I couldn't function that I literally was physically sick that I spent half the day vomiting and I couldn't think clearly but in order to do my job as an attorney right my clients I I gotta put food on the table because if you're an attorney there's no such thing really is a six day because you've got to make it rain you gotta do business you got to go to court otherwise your income stream stops and with two kids and and a dad and I only prior that you stay home dad I I'm the sole breadwinner here and in order to do her job able to functional but she said well I I take a I take a little bit of the medicine and that would get me through the day and she said okay if I got a weekend a long weekend I'm in a I'm a clean up myself so should go and literally be sick the entire weekend on Monday or Tuesday roll around it she said I I felt worse with each progressive day and I have to go back to work and I I just take a little bit more to get me through the day and that is the nature it's not because I can't wait to go off working at high he said the the the medicine didn't at some at some point in having the fact that she was taking it not to get high end of a feeling of of of being out of it but rather in order to simply functions there's no there is no no well process of feeling the J. enjoyment usually do when he drank or smoked weed or whatever might be where you're all I'm high look it's that when the case just in order to function and that is the sickness of this disease when it comes to narcotics when it comes specifically to this class of opiates and so the end result is Lisa there's a failure to appear she didn't and judges court in Miami and I I mention this yesterday my heart went out because she is now being held on seven hundred fifty thousand dollars bond in that same jail awaiting her fate she was engaged in a program that they offer to attorneys they get some clean it's like let's rock and suspend your law license we want you to get better we want to you to go through the steps to make sure that your clean and sober and straight and we're gonna give you a second or third chance and I thought okay we talked about this yesterday talked about the nature of addiction and and how it affects people differently and you may go while I was on the stuff it did affect me are these people just junkies it is widely how that's not the case at all you may not have as I don't have an addiction is a matter of fact I had an opiate last night because I spent at from noon until well I've got twelve thirty until about nine o'clock last night I was painting apartment one of my rentals and I had all sorts of stuff to do put in toilet back it already so we can turn around get ready for the first month in the end result is when I got home after about eight hours of work in over my head my right shoulder is osteoarthritis I couldn't really lifted that high and I needed to get not a pain relief but also get that swelling to go down and and that help me but I can do that and I don't have that addictive gene in me unfortunately too many people as laces one pastor and so what winds up happening is that the the phone the circle despair an addiction and now the end result as well I wasn't a touch on this but I heard a little bit this yesterday as I was paying and of all things will he was talking about this he replied a call I had on the show a woman who went through this but to of all people Lisa wells called the bill Cunningham show yesterday to get in here and I'm gonna play a part of this too because it really is it it's real it's interesting to say the least the conversation here's a woman by the way is an attorney who is on the opposite side of the bars to me you go to jail it's a big deal but an attorney I think it's different because you represent people who are on the other side of bars in if you look at the Lisa wells mug shot it looks like you can see the look in our eyes vessel to spare and maybe because I know Lisa so well I you just see it in your heart breaks for people who get caught up in this Lisa called Willie show yesterday if you didn't hear it and she describes where she's calling from I am currently at the Miami county detention center tell me what tell me what's going on and what message you want to give I have been on probation for three and a half years I actually finished my probation term and March of this year and I should have been on I am seeing and extreme in their connection and April I an inquiry about bars is Easton is here and and to continue me and then there's a question as to whether or not she had jurisdiction to do back and we went back and forth hi Mister court date scheduling error and then he summons made a court appearance during that time I I mean that's the only time I've ever had a positive screen during the entire three years that I've ever been on probation the part that he can requested that I give you and patient treatment which I dad out of that one day with ease the Cleveland I can I went out for three days ever that which I went I when I go to Glendale is now I am tempted negative person fine I'll make the negative except for the one that was positive when I was in in patient power knowing that I was an impatient the judgment weren't from Iraq I've never heard of a judge during high in any county anywhere I couldn't believe it L. I. when I got out my attorneys filed a motion to set aside the warrant the judge refused to set it aside he had near accidents and I've been playing in jail ever since he might find at seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars please let me ask you this it was a media account that of the September fifth hearing you're asked to give a urine screen and that you tested positive for cocaine marijuana and oxy code and is that accurate yeah Hey there and I totally in freely admitted that I realized I could have joined I did not realize that that would please and that I really nine three markets at five which I admitted my probation officer and I freely admitted to the court that that is the only relax that I have ever had and three and half years and I went in patient treatment in fact I was out for seven days in between the three days and didn't use any narcotic after the con and treated one day I was negative negative five additional time after that and I've been negative ever since Lisa do you think you have a drug problem as we sit here how big this afternoon and in that sense I got arrested I was the first person to admit that the traffic is absolutely no doubt I have worked also that they continue to work I'm not in denial about being a drug addict and never happens com that I've had before I got arrested I think it's really an openly on your show and everyone I just I will not believe Adam on the view that I'm gonna miss calling with my cat I I can't believe that I thought I I don't know of judges that warrants out for people when they're in and patient treatment listen to you it said to me previously in either on or off the air that this addiction began when you had difficulties with the pregnancy and that you were prescribed drugs and then from there on it just went downhill from there and well how do you say to those I had a female prosecutor call made said after you've failed so many drug screens in a row what do you do with somebody and I say well if they failed one or two or three or four you go to a fifth opportunity a six and even you you failed drug screens before but you're saying the judge Pratt the you want another opportunity shocking to me I don't like failed one drug screen after three and a half years one I'm in my experience is sixteen years of the criminal defense attorney I've never had anybody go to inpatient prevailing winds are extreme did you only use the drugs the one time because many times an attic to use drugs repeatedly then fail one drug screen but you can honestly say can you that that's the only time you ever used illegal drugs is a one time on the drug screen I can honestly say that in fact it during when I went one day my.
