I'm Charlie Pallet. That's a Bloomberg business Flash. All right, Charlie. Thank you so much Would you want to get back to Dr David Levy, CEO of the health care company, each health he is based in New York City, and that's where he joins us on the phone on this, too. Tuesday. So before he went to break we talked about preventive health care. And you know, Jason brought up the point. Dr David a doctor Levy that You know? Are we seeing kind of a rethink when it comes to corporate health plans and just health care in general? That it is becoming more about preventive. We know it needs to be. But are we seeing any kind of concrete steps that are taking us there? Yeah, well, that's a great question. So just as a backdrop, we published a paper with our colleagues at the mailmen school public health at Columbia and IBM Watson Health in March, showing that despite Obama care covering 100% of preventive it it's only about 30% of people go, and when they go, they don't even get the right stuff. Now, the interesting thing about the cove it pandemic is that it preferentially hurts and kills people who have diseases of lifestyle, overweight, high blood pressure. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and in fact, the mortality is about 10 times the expected mortality when you have one of those lifestyle diseases, and you get admitted to the hospital for Cove, it And so what Employers are now becoming are now coming to understand that having invested properly in prevention, you can actually immediately reduce the co morbidity effect of the mortality of of covert 19. And in fact, when we looked at 40,000 of our patients, we saw that when they came in for routine and you'll prevent a visit. They had half the prevalence of those risk factors. So I think this epidemic has been really interesting and getting employers focus. Once again. I'm getting everybody in for prevention and getting health maintenance finally, to where it needs to be, namely for everybody. So then Dr Levi, how do we do that? I mean, is it going to come down to smart, candidly cost conscious but also health conscious and employees conscious employers forcing the system to change because the system seems Doesn't seem to have the right economic incentives in place. I dare say right now to achieve what you're talking about. Right. I mean, now healthcare, perchance See, purchasing is all about the immediate immediate return of investment and the reduction of healthcare claims. That's a very shortsighted approach. Those employers who are interested in the retention of talent and optimal productivity's those air, the employees and, frankly, who are customers who say Wait a minute. We need to look at the entire balance sheet of good health, not just on healthcare claims, but on productivity on retention, engagement reduction and short term disability, long term disability and all of those things. And that's where the rewards are very, very big. But you're absolutely right. It is very difficult to convince folks who are buying healthcare in the moment tow have a longer view because it's really, you know, a year to year kind of a view on you know what? My house they're going to cost, as opposed to the long view on really what optimal health care looked like an optimal productivity. All right, So one thing you could change right now or get you know corporate programs or corporations to change in terms of how they think about health care for their employees. That would be more about preventive. Other than Oh, my God! Crisis. We've got to do something. What would you do? Quote now is no better a time because you know, I use his expression Cove. It compresses time. So today somebody for diabetes you don't you know you may have had let's say last year with diabetes, you may have had 10 or 20 years to worry about if they were going to die of the complications of diabetes. What was covert around They could die tomorrow And so now is now is the absolute perfect time to get involved in prevention because it's not even an investment for the next 10 or 20 years. It's an investment for today. Hey, because with this pandemic, and with all of these people potentially exposed to something that could kill them tomorrow with one of these lifestyle illnesses invest right now no better time. That's my point of view. All right. Well, here's hoping. I mean, I think I think you've sold us Dr. David Levy certainly believe in preventive medicine and listen, I think more and more companies are thinking about this and we talk about Cove. It really being the great accelerant on I really liked your phraseology there that cove it compresses time. We certainly have felt that in many ways, and it feels like it is reimagining, forcing us to re imagine Carol A lot of different industries. Dr. David Levy is the CEO of E H e Healthy, joined us on the phone from New York City. Great context. It's going on the T shirt list, and the other thing is either we do this or we'll go back to being farmers so that we actually get physical activity on a regular. Say farmers. Farmers. Listen, if you think about it when you're physically active, I brothers who are contractors who are, you know? In great shape because they are physical all the time. And so I think we need to rethink is right now. You and I are doing a lot of sitting just Yeah, that took a turn. I did not know that my future involved farming. I mean, I was upstate over the weekend. I can tell you farming. I would not be good at it. I'm just saying I'm just right now. I could be all right. Let's head down to Washington and Nancy line. US unemployment rate falls to 8.4% even as hiring slows
"The blue numbers came out jobs numbers as we do every week, and the Jobs numbers that have come out in for August. The United States are added 1.4 million jobs in August, but it's still down 11.5 million jobs since the covert 19. Virus hit unemployment rate fell to 8.4% from 10.2 in July. It's below 10%. What does this mean? Well, let me get an expert on that. Think it not robbery to come and break it down for us every day. Every week Now. He had done it every month. Even when he was the Deputy secretary of Labor under President Obama. He's now senior fellow at the University of Virginia Millar Centre. Of course, I'm talking about Chris Loo. Chris Thank you for coming on. Always right. Tell us what up and down side of this job of figure for this week mean? Well, I think you put the right spin on it. The right take on it. The context we during the pandemic the first couple months, the pandemic has lost 22 million jobs. We've now gained back about 10.5 million jobs. So we're still 11 million in the hole. So This is an economy that slowly crawling out of a really deep hole. But I think there's a couple things that are noteworthy. One is the pace of job gains is slowing down, and I know that Hard to imagine when you're creating 1.4 million jobs, but that pace is slowing. Ah, and I think that certainly speaks to the fact that a lot of the economic relief that's been verv IDed has stopped. I think what's also concerning in all of this is that we're starting to see Lay off that we originally thought we're going to be temporary now becoming permanent. There's now 3.4 million. Not permanent layoffs on those air jobs that are never coming back, and then we could just look at that. News headlines and you see major companies that rely on you know, travel and tourism, most notably things like American Airlines, MGM resorts and track all saying they're cutting thousands of people, so there's more reason to be concerned about Maur, temporary layoffs becoming permanent. So look, anytime you create a million jobs. That's a good thing. But boy were in a really big hole and again we continue to see these disparities between ah white workers and people of color who are out of work or Men and women, So you know it's it's. It's a good report, but it's not a great report. And what? Uh what is the breakdown? Do you know in terms of the ethnic groups or racial group? So again? This is not surprising. We continue to see that The unemployment rate for white workers significantly lower It was 7.3% for white workers. 13% for black workers. Hispanics 10.5% Asians 10.7% So again, you continue to see black unemployment. You know whether times are good or times are bad being basically double what it is for whites. And I think what is concerning as well. You know, we know that when there are tough economic times low income workers, people of color all are often the ones that are released from their jobs first. They're also sometimes the people that are hired back the latest they have left in general, lower wages less saving, so the impact of this hits them more directly. And again as we look around the country we've got, you know, eviction moratoriums that are That are expired. We've got food bank lines that are getting longer and longer. So this is a tough time right now, For for people of color in this country Now there is no specific Plan laid out by this administration on how they're going to clothe that race. Gabbard? No, I mean, you know, Look, there there theory is always we're going to look at the stock market and you see the president again tweeting this week about You know numbers on Wall Street and and I think it continues to show kind of the disconnect in this administration's policies. I mean, they're the hallmark of what they can claim Credit for economically is passing. A tax cut in 2017 that essentially gave a trillion and a half dollars a tax cut. Most of that went to corporations and very wealthy people. Very little of it has come backto working class people, and they really have no specific Economic plan Right now, on the pandemic of anything you've got. People like Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, who are pushing for more money, and, you know, oddly, this is the president and Senate Republicans don't want that extra money. Yeah, they passed the Heroes Act in the house. They still have passed no second stimulus bill that would help workers help unemployed people in the Senate and then went on their break like it. It doesn't matter. Yeah, no, And you know the president make it made a big show of signing these executive orders to extend unemployment benefits. But that was just a couple 100 bucks for a couple of weeks. That's really not going to make a meaningful difference is most people and left out of all of this is all of the other things that were being negotiated. Like money for state and local governments so that police and teachers and firefighters out laid off money for school so that they could put safety Hard up to allow them to reopen money for additional testing. So there was a lot of other things on the table. That kind of got derailed when the president decided to go it

I'm Dave Bittner with your cyber wire summary for Thursday February Twentieth. Two thousand twenty the UK and the US have formerly blamed Russia for a wave of disruptive politically themed website defacements. That hit Georgia in October. Two Thousand Nineteen British Foreign Secretary Robin called the GRU's campaign reckless and brazen and unacceptable attack on a sovereign nation. Us Secretary of State Pompeo said the attempts gave the lie to Russian claims of Being Responsible Actor in cyberspace. The British response is harsher the Americans for Russia to reform itself and offer Georgia. Some help securing itself against further attacks. The defacement campaign was interesting in that it was in effect and probably in conception a purely disruptive operation you may recall that some fifteen thousand websites in Georgia were defaced. With a photo of the country's former President Mikheil Saakashvili with text. I'll be back overlaid on top of the ex-president's smiling. Two thumbs up picture now. The former president was known during his time in office as a strong advocate of pro western policies. Which on the face of it would make him an unlikely figure for GRU boosting. He left Georgia for Ukraine in two thousand thirteen saying that he was fleeing trumped up corruption. Charges defacements are low grade form of hacking and as influence operations go. There are pretty blunt and not terribly effective instrument but in this case they serve to exacerbate domestic tensions in Georgia and that the US and UK suggest was the point all along by Zd Nets. Count this is the fifth time the allies have accused the GRU of cyber attacks against foreign states their list of the other four is as follows black energy which in December two thousand fifteen shut down a portion of Ukraine's power grid for up to six hours in destroyer. A second attack on Ukraine's power grid year after Black Energy. Also known as crash override. This attack disrupted power distribution in and around Kiev for about an hour not pecchia a June twenty seventeen destructive pseudo ransomware attack that initially affected Ukrainian targets but which spilled over into many other parts of the world including Western Europe and North America and finally bad rabbit a ransomware attack in October twenty seventeen which encrypted hard drives and rendered it inoperable the campaign was also concentrated on Ukrainian targets the public naming and shaming is being read as a warning to Moscow to stay away from attempting to meddle in other countries elections. And of course especially in fiddling with the US twenty twenty elections. It needn't however take much fiddling to achieve a disruptive result the difficulties the Iowa Democratic Caucus experienced with Shadow Inc.'s less than fully successful Iowa report APP has already prompted some non negligible intra-party suspicion especially as the ongoing re canvas has shown the already small margin between Caucus Front runner. Buddha judge and second-place finisher sanders having shrunk even more last night at the democratic debate. That preceded this weekend's Nevada Caucus Senator Sanders deplored some of the social media excesses. Some apparent supporters of him have been seen to commit but then immediately pointed out that. It's quite possible that many of those supporters are just Russian bonds as quoted in the daily beast. The senator said all of us remember two thousand sixteen and what we remember is efforts by Russians and others to interfere in our election and divide us up. I'm not saying that's happening. But it would not shock me and quote. He wasn't saying that. So you see still yes that he had any evidence for it but as a matter of a priority possibility. Sure it's possible the Russian bots are out and about if your aim is disruption with bought hunters like that who needs the actual butts at a certain point suspicion and mistrust will do your work for you. Chances are you've got systems in place to monitor the status and availability of the technical services. You use day today to alert you. If a server goes down power goes out or there's a sudden spike in traffic. But how about your people? How do you monitor your teams and Co workers to make sure? They're not operating beyond their capacity and burning out. Jamie Tomasulo is head of trust and compliance at Cisco duo security. She presented at the virus bulletin. Say things around their own wellness Things like you should exercise more. Make sure you're drinking water. Make sure you get enough sleep. Drink less caffeine or more depending on who? You're talking to and one of the things that I think is being missed is the role of a manager or leader in preventing mitigating harm With regards to burnout. Well let's dig into that would part. Do you think the manager place so I think what's really important to think about when we talk about managers in their role in seeking about individuals from burn out perspective that people were not perpetual motion machines. I think one of the challenges that we failed to exempt except that for ourselves and the teams which report to us into work patterns out exhaust. Our personal energy will not lead to infinite productivity. If I'm a manager how do I monitor for this? How do I e foster an environment where I feel as though I'm I'm getting the most out of my employees but at the same time looking out for them for for both their personal Health but also for the sake of the organization a few things that we can think about when it comes to how to monitor this or how to think about this is thinking about especially those who are in engineering our operational roles thinking about what are the signs and symptoms that assist service isn't healthy optimize or at a sustainable capacity? There's actually a cyber operation stress survey one of the techniques that you can use jus- AIA Dykstra and Celeste Lyn Paul of the US Department of Defense develop this and it's a low cost method to Seti fatigue frustration in cognitive workload in tactical cyber operations. And it's easily adaptable to anyone in an operations or security role. Do you have any insights on? How companies successfully manage that transition from what I'm imagining is that startup culture where everyone is putting in a lot of a lot of hours and working hard and just doing whatever needs to be done to to get the company going but then there comes a point. There's a process of of Putting things in place to achieve sustainability do companies have to be delivered in that process? Yes I think you have to be deliberate. You have to be inclusive. You have to be intersectional. You have to be able to look at in order to scale your organization to take From startup into growth stage company and then ultimately passed that point you cannot just look at the sustainability or the growth of the product. It also has you have to look at the staff and the needs and the resourcing of the team. I think it's critical that human condition ultimately the people who serve your organization are part of that growth plan and part of that trajectory. And making sure you're keeping that resource in keeping that space for them to grow as the rest of the organization. Gross that's Jamie Tomasulo from Cisco duo security. CEO, Chairman of MGM Resorts Jim Murren steps down
"We've got to kick it off with broken last hour on. MGM CONTESSA BREWER BACK CNBC HQ with some numbers and a big executive departure contestants Brian Big news from Mgm Resorts Chairman and CEO. Jim Marin is leaving. He's been at the helm of this organization. Since two thousand twelve in fact was mentored by founder Kirk Kerkorian and will remain in this post. I'm told until a successor is found. This comes at a time fraught with uncertainty for the company it's Casinos Gino's or closed in Macau because of Corona Virus Far East visitors aren't playing Bacharach in Las Vegas. The way they used to that led last quarter do an eighteen percent drop in table. Able Games those headwinds have caused the company to withdraw. Its full year guidance. It's expanding massive energy effort dollars to secure gaming license in Japan for an integrated resort. It's new casino in Springfield Massachusetts is struggling. SNP were out with a note questioning MGM's credit and its ability to sustain long-term Corona virus disruption without raising its risk of default. And then you have activists investors like Keith Meister. Who was named to the Board Board last year? Really Agitating for change here. Three hundred million dollars. In big cost cutting initiatives at MGM resort they're selling premier properties like the Bellagio and MGM. Am Grand on this trip. This is a company Brian in the midst of upheaval. The call has just started. I'm going to jump on on bringing back any headlines that I find please do contests a thank you very much charlie. Let's talk about this guy's not a segment. We talk about too much but tim kind of an odd departure. MGM Yeah The stock up eighteen percent over six months which is good did not as good as the market. It's outperformed Las Vegas Sands not like this company's been tanking but now and as it should it certainly would the focus that's been on Makara remember. MGM Reminding Audience Audience. There are about thirty percent of the revenues coming from China whereas you know win seventy five percent so very different profile on risk as was just talked about the fact that. MGM has been doing everything they can to improve their balance. Sheet makes the stock a lot more defensive so again the sale of the ground they sold their property at fifteen point. Fifteen and three quarters times multiple a on ebitda which is which is very attractive and I think something that gets them down to that one times leverage they were trying to do so I think casinos thrown around here. A lot of these stocks were breaking gap before we got into Corona virus and again those that actually are exposed. I like casino. I should have said this Karen WYNN resorts up eight and a half percent a year. MGM's up twice. That I mean it's again it's not like this spin some horrible underperformer well. There's one thing in the released today. That was really interesting. The tender offer that MGM announced to the Doing one point to five billion and a tender off a Dutch tender. So you can somewhere between twenty nine and thirty four so they're basically giving you somewhat of a floor for at least some portion of the companies thirty even while they're saying we have no idea what. The outlook is based on corona virus. That's sort of interesting to me that they're willing to do that. At a time of such uncertainty sort of goes to your point of I mean they must also stocks undervalued. If they're willing to step up in that way right now so interesting couple of Friday's go Scott hosted the show we were. It was probably not the peak necessarily Sara Corona virus. But obviously we were talking about it in Las Vegas Sands vacillating around the sixty five level and we talked about that being your level for an entry point being that it was the previous high back over the summer. Scott question US correctly. Why would you step in here and to Tim's point because a lot of these names have gotten bludgeoned on the back of it I mean? LVS CBS was absolutely breaking out to the upside prior to this and we talked about that sixty five. They'll now here at seventy one. I think it does take out that. Recent high of seventy I five and it's cheaper than GM nineteen times words MGM's probably premium into space close to twenty two and a half so I'm not saying Fitch MGM here. But I am. I'm staying stay long. LVS The idea being that eventually hopefully sooner than later corona virus will be a footnote in history. Let's hope sooner than later. And and the one thing we've learned about the consumer whether it's the American consumer or somebody Macau or wherever else does a casino if they WANNA go. They're going to go and they're gonNA it comeback quickly and the consumers healthy and the consumer at least we can talk all we want about household debt and certainly some of the sensitivities are interest rates but but if you think about where casinos were after the financial crisis in two thousand eight into nine the consumers in a totally different place they had. They had repaired the balance sheet and that was not a place to come in and buy casinos again. So as you pointed it out this is this is a High Avis. Certainly going to be an awful February Gross gaming revenues in January. We're down eleven point three percent they're going to be significantly worse in February for those exposed to Akao but this is not something that doesn't correct itself. I think as you get through into the second quarter assuming we get through this and I know that's that may be insensitive to the to the to the health issues that are out there. But we've seen this before in terms of Asian assets coming through the SARS virus. Yeah because I would assume tim you would say and I don't WanNa go anything on our coverage coming up in a couple weeks when the next starting sees it as out but you gotta just right off the first quarter right. I mean first. Quarter you

But from the privacy of his sweet he killed fifty eight people and himself injured nearly five hundred more changed and destroyed innumerable lives account. Stephen paddock was remarkable man whose movements leading up to October. I didn't raise any suspicion publish the video that it got from MGM resorts. The video is piece together to show paddock's every move he seeing interacting with other guests gambling shopping and coming and going from the casino. One of the most ominous parts of the video is seen all the luggage that had a CAD as we now know guns and ammunition were hiding in those suitcases the video is six minutes long. We are putting link it's that banality of the experience he is planning something horrible. But at the same time. Time. He's taking time to glad hand with the employee's at the hotel. He's making use of the casino at the hotel. He's very much at ease. And almost like he's definitely using the space, and the dynamics and the the characteristics of the hotel to his advantage in this horribly obscene way, he took the identity of the place a site of pleasure alleger hotel, and he turned it upside down that does have a precedent. Yes. That was a that's a nation of what we believe. It started off their snipers on the roof just in the beginning of the conflict, and then it became the the media sanctuary, but also the recipient of many many volleys of sniper fire from the mountains for us in North America. When we see that weaponry in a hotel when we see the sight lines of a hotel weaponized in that way. It's very shocking because we are so conditioned to having hotels be a Ludik site a site of entertainment site of rest, especially you know, in a place, like Las Vegas where it is in itself known to be this getaway from everything. The police breached his rooms their body Cam images show, a massive arsenal. Strewn all over colorful, hotel, upholstery a hole in the window where he aimed his guns. It's really striking. And I think that's one of those moments, especially when you see that those stills all the guns. It's really a moment where it totally breaks the spell, but it also makes us think what are the possible uses of space like the hotel that is so flexible that it can be used in such a way. So effectively Robert Davidson's book is the hotel occupied space. It looks at the ways a hotel can be occupied and transformed in the imagination and reality hostile has invited three hundred and fifty four newsmen to a giant rally, which is to take place in Havana on Wednesday as a Hilton which when Castro took over during the revolution that became his first headquarters. And he did it. And he changed the name to the habit leeway. Because at the time it was the highest building in Latin America and also just as a symbol against imperialism by taking over that hotel. They continued on. But then the hotel was basically nationalized and became the symbol for all of, you know, Cubans to see now, the great irony is that it's a space that the majority of Cubans are not allowed. They can't afford to stay at there's people usually guarding the doors to make sure that no prostitutes, enter hotels can include and exclude..
