"Signed bogarts to play shortstop. Evil empires back, baby. As much as I would hate to see you die from that, it would be enjoyable to see Bogart's in the pinstripes. Well, so what's going to happen after Nestor Cortez gets nailed with the 80 game PD suspension? What do you guys do after that? Please. No, no, no. Let's not say the best picture in baseball. Explain this, that's their car test database. Where did this guy come from? What is happening? I don't know. It's like a Disney movie. He came from the Mexican league, or they found him on the scrap heap, and the guy's not the best picture of baseball. I don't know. He's crafty. He's a typical crafty lefty where he throws weird arm angles and is he my candidate? He's a crafty pitcher. Let's put it that way. I don't know. I'm getting out of here. No, he's lefty. Yeah, he's a crafty lefty, and he's got weird arm angles and he changes speeds and guys don't know what to do. It's remarkable. You can't even hit him. I don't get it. He has the lowest DRM baseball. I believe the moment at 1.35. I do know that. He was on your team last year and he was actually like half decent. He was no sign of this. Everybody thought it was like a flukey thing. Like, you know, when they had what was the guy's name years ago, Aaron small or something like the guy came up and you're right. And but he's the real deal. He's carried it over from last season to this season, and he, I joked with the shrimps again, and I'm only half joking in a playoff series. I'd rather have him start game one than Cole. Jesus. What's this Santana? How are we feeling about him these days? I'm not Santana, a Chapman. Severino? No, Chapman. Well, not great. I mean, I think he's shot. And that's going to become an issue down the line. I mean, there's already a lot of call that clay Holmes should be the closer because Chapman has control problems. And I saw a stat today where his spin rate is ridiculously down so he may be like a spider tech guy where the grip thing affected him as more than other pitchers in this or as much. What's going on here? Well, I'm into the team. I'm devouring information. I'm Guinea. I got to keep this going while it lasts. Yeah. Are they going to, if they make the playoffs?.

"You in the past to say. Yeah. Okay. We always talk about. We always talk about this. Why not? It's a game. We're really unless there's a catastrophe you're going to be in the World Cup. Give this guy a shot. If he scores a couple goals, remember that's all it took suddenly Ricardo pepi was a $20 million transfer to Augsburg. Why not give a young Mexican player that chance? Now, why not? Because he has his shoulders anything. What has he done? They've not given him the opportunity to spend. I mean, he can not start for a team to Mexican league like crusade. I mean, are we just going to give up opportunities to professional players randomly? Hey, I'm a have a shot to start for the Mexican national league. I just, I'd rather start, I'd rather start Henry Martin over Santiago talking about players who don't start for their club team. Well, well, but these candy Martin has already scored for the Mexican national team. He plays for club America under a lot of pressure and he has shown you very, very solid minutes. At what point do you start thinking future? Do you start thinking Henri Martin is not my present nor my future? Santi Jimenez couldn't be my future son, Jimenez. I need to start grooming him now because he's got all these intangibles that are way different than a 9s in the pool. He's big, he's strong, he's very fast, he's got a good nose to grow and his best and his best play, he's very raul Jimenez like he makes those around him better. He made Rodriguez a great goal scorer that season they won the tournament. He's a good player. When do you start to think about the future in a future episode of football America? 'cause we gotta leave this here for now. Mauricio pedrosa, thank you so much for taking the time. As always, good to have you here on the show. Love you boy. See.

"Their record expects it now. We're talking about a team that's 20 undefeated in concave at home. This is a tournament they do very well in. So it was very much a victory they needed. So this is the first win for Santos under Pedro casino. They have only tell us this year exactly. One point and they've been a huge disappointment so far. So when you take a look at that performance, how can they use this victory to try to take it to the Mexican league and also considering what's going to happen in the second leg because it was not an easy result for something. Let me just say, let's switch it for a second. This is a great result for both teams. Think about it. Is it possible? It is. Think about this for a second. Montreal go to a place where it's historically very difficult, especially from Major League Soccer teams. I was part of those Santos teams that used to trounce Major League Soccer teams with your Houston, Seattle, Toronto. You know what I'm talking about. It's a very difficult place to play. You would eat 6 and go home, okay? One zero heading into Montreal a good result from Montreal. They would probably feel hard done with the foul called and Romelu Kyoto but Kyoto doing a very good goal being called back. But if you're Santos laguna also a good result. They're sitting in last place in ligaments with a negative 13 goal against, okay? Historically, don't give up goals. They don't leak goals like that. They're a defensive team first, a transition team. So the fact that they were able to one win to at home and three keep a zero at the back could be the victory that changes their season. It's a good win for Santos. It's a good result for Montreal. Won't win for Santos laguna since November 25th. This was the first official match. The first official competition gave for Montreal also in a couple of months. So that I understand that finally getting a win, it's just a relief for Santa. I don't believe it's a great result because now let's talk second leg but you expect a comeback from Montreal. I don't..

"Is apparent. You're not going to get score lines of 5 mil 6 mil every week. You're going to get close four lines. Sometimes in other leagues, you see those big score lines because the gap is just so big between the top and the bottom. So I think the end of your cell in comparison to the Mexican league has that edge in terms of its parity and competition. And I think that's by design as well. But one of the things I've been so impressed with particular has in particular is them selling out their stadiums is them really engaging with their fan base on the women's side. And it's something that we've really looked at. Obviously, for us at agency, we have that aim. You know, we've sold coming up to 14,000 season tickets already without war being kicked. We want to be that club where people come round every week to watch this team. And so when I see teams that take it as doing it, I'm like, it can be done. It's achievable. So it's amazing to see we've seen recently as well Barcelona and around Madrid. That's sold 80,000 tickets. In Spain. So the women's game is really hitting some amazing numbers and that's exactly what we want to achieve. And you mentioned parody and competition, but as far as talent, especially with all the money being invested right now in the European game, what league has the most talent? I would say I would say the WSL in the UK is attracting real top talent because the salaries are getting bigger and bigger. They don't have a salary in the UK. So you're able to attract some of the top top astronaut players. But equally in the NWSL, we have some amazing talent. Too. Angel city, we have some talent. I'm super excited about, you know, there's so many players that we can get really excited about in terms of their talent levels. But it's great. It's great for us to even be having a conversation where we're comparing leads we're comparing talent once upon a time, you had one choice of one leap to play in as a professional player. Now you have 6 or 7. It's so healthy for the women's game. And we've got to keep pushing the end up yourself. So we are it's the top league in one of the top leagues in the world. And in Major League Soccer, we always say, you know, a team can only go as far as its designated players. And I wonder how true that holds to the national women's soccer league. You're two stars no doubt about it. Kristen press and Julie or how much of your year one success is down to those two players? Well, I don't actually agree with that comment. I actually think that you're only as good as your sort of depth of your squad. If you plan in terms of the NWSL, we have international.

"To playing. I knew that I wanted a different life from playing. There's a lot of sacrifices that come from playing. You know, you miss a lot of weddings, funerals, a lot of time with family, et cetera. So I decided that I wanted to go down the sport and director route. I have a legal background as well. So I'm a trained lawyer, so it lends to understanding contract rights and governance and all those things. So really angel city, the opportunity for angel city was one that I really couldn't turn down the opportunity to build a team from scratch is one that doesn't really happen a lot. A lot of football teams certainly in the UK have been around for hundreds of years. So it's very difficult to innovate. It's very difficult to change. It's very difficult to build something that is different. And so when I got the call from angel city, it was like, actually, this is a real opportunity to stamp something that's different. You know, it's a female led ownership group female founded. That's different in itself. So I wanted to be part of something unique and powerful. And here we are. I agree with you about the coaching and getting into a different role. It's way too close to being a player. But now you're a sporting director. Okay, so let's talk about that. What's been the most difficult part about starting a roster from scratch? Because I could only imagine with all the mechanisms and restrictions you have in NWO how difficult that must be. Yeah, I think honestly that the most difficult part and it's probably a positive too, has just been the level of competition with other leagues around the world. You know, if you want to be successful on the field, you want to try and aim to bring in the best possible players. My strategy has always been one that was very international, but also to try and recruit some of the best players in the league. And so, you know, certainly on the international side, competing with Europe competing with a model that is a lot more free in terms of the salary caps in terms of investment was difficult. And I've lost out on a few deals of his own back. But equally, there's so many players that are so impressed with what we're trying to build angel city. That they decided to join us in LA and join something that's unique. So it's worked both ways, but that has been a challenge. In terms of competing with England, France, Spain, Mexico, these are the leagues that are also investing in their women's teams as well. And we mentioned at the top of the segment that you guys did just sign a player from the guy Mackey feminine. I wonder how you would compare the quality of the two leagues. The Mexican league versus NWSL. Well, I think we end up arguably the best league in the world because of the level of competition. The parity across the league.

"Me. The way I see a big club. So history, the popularity means the fans. And the other one means that trophies. If you have those, not only in the national level, but of course, also in the international level, I consider a big club. If you go it for the last 15 years, you will say, okay, Santos is there. Successful. Why? Because they were the second team with more places on the qualify to legal. They are number two also on the semifinals. They are number one in finals. And they are number two with trophies. Last 15 years. So we are getting there. This is the direction. But the time to get the history for you to have big clubs like you have around the world, you will take time. Like Monterey and tigers. Of course, the financial power makes makes a lot helps you a lot like that. But I do believe that they are they are getting on the direction of the big ones, but you need to change at least this three points for you to consider them big. But at the moment, nowadays, they are definitely because you stress a lot on player development especially here at Santos laguna, one of the few clubs that actually stresses that player development. Let me take you for a second to what the Canadian soccer federation is doing. And what the U.S. men's national team is doing. And you see the amount of players being exported. Why aren't more young Mexican players going to Europe? First of all, that's the question of the passport. Maybe maybe because if you don't have a European passport, it can give you can give you less space in order for you to get on the sports and to have the space on their squads according to the rules that you have in Europe on the different leagues. That's one point. The second one, I do believe also that the point of view of the producting players should be on ultimately on the national team. But the national team wins if you form players if you prepare players to be on the Mexican league and get and get there. But you have more in a higher level if you get them to the top 5 in Europe like the U.S. soccer is doing and then they go directly to the national team. So I think you need to change a little bit to the philosophy not only about for creating those players. And there's another point. My criticism regarding even here in Santos and also to the Mexican players go to educate them to know the game. One thing is create one player and you get one play by itself. I think you see the cat the player to know the game. One player that is not educated to know the game is not going to perform good in all the levels in older scenarios in all the contests in all the footballs that you might found. One that knows the game, the adapt adaptation is much more easy. What about your European counterparts when they see the different type of market that league on Mickey's is? It's almost many would say and I would say it's an inflated market. It's not really on par with the rest of the world. When you see those type of prices, does that affect the transfers or the exportation of players here? I don't think so. Because you sell one player a year, let's say by 5 K and that same player can go to Europe with less of that amount. So it's not a question. The question is, once again, is that the people don't know. Don't know the process. Don't know the quality. They don't see the product. They don't see the project. Okay. We just came in here on the first moment. And now, people contact us and ask us more about Mexican players, about players that are playing on the league. We have more that contact. And they ask us, what do you know about this player? What do you know about that player? And because they have someone here that can provide them the right information that they are looking for. I'm curious. I know you know José Mourinho and a personal level. I know you work with them. I know you've seen them as a mentor. Is it a common misconception that he doesn't trust the young player? Or is that pretty on par? I don't know him that well in that level. I do believe that for me, like for him in for all the coaches, edge is not an issue. Aids for me is not an issue. Once again, for me, the knowledge of the game that a young player like 17 years old, 18 years old, 19 years old is showing to you is much more important than the age himself. So if you ever want to play that is mature and understand the game and give you what you want for me, there's no problem with that. I do believe that we chose that should be the same. Bedroom. Thank you so much. Good luck in the season. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you too. Eric, it's so interesting. Whenever you hear somebody from the league side, talk about Major League Soccer. They're always talking about the off field stuff, right? Like how can we catch up to what MLS does off the field? There you hear a perfect example of it. That's my big takeaway from the kaisin interview. Is that MLS is doing something that is making the league clearly more visible in the international space and it's something that ligament is not doing and it's having a clear impact. Yeah. I mean, it's not something new, right? This is something that we've known. It's been harped on for a long time. Liga Mickey's isn't seeing outside Mexico isn't seen outside of the United States, those two places. You don't see it in Europe. He was telling me about how they followed Nani religiously because of what he was doing in Orlando. In Portugal, they had a system set up to follow these players abroad and Major League Soccer was a big proponent of that. You don't see that legal magazine. Also very briefly, if you will, what he said about the coaching when he said about when I come to league I make is I'm challenged by the coach and when he talked about if you're learning the same coach, the coaching experience, you get in the same country experiences, excuse me, as the rest, there's a stagnant line. You're not involved. And I thought that was very interesting. Yeah, one of the quotes that stood out to me and I actually wrote it down while he was saying it, if you don't know the product, you're not going to buy it, right? Because when you think of it, you say, okay, well, MLS is watched in more places than Liga mekis, but what does that actually mean? No, I think that's where you see it. Maybe manifests itself in the most direct way is the transfer fees of players like, well let's go out the examples, right? Of like, Johann Vasquez, very good player,.

"It would be a good time to merge, for example, the Mexican league and MLS, all this kind of stuff. This has to be part of the conversation. And what do you do with tournaments? What do you do with money prices? All of that is a big thing. Yeah, no. I kind of feel that people are going to look out for their area of the world. And rightly so. So UEFA looks out for it. It's European members. Equally, if you're in Asia, or if you're in North America, you're going to say or in Concacaf, you're going to say hang on a minute, glazers, cranky, et cetera. How about you spend some money over here? How about you help push push the development here? I think it's very fair that these people go and push the side of it and then you have the conversation and then you started out. I think for a lot of confederations and a lot of member associations actually more than confederations. For a lot of member associations, if there isn't a strong FIFA, there will be a lot more suffering. A lot more suffering. Because they would just, you know, be eaten up by the game. By the economics of the game. And so, you know, with all due respect, it was no different than why people went crazy about the Super League because it was destroying national team football. Well, what's the difference between that concept and a concept of an entire continent or two taken off into rocket space and everybody's sitting there going, well, how am I supposed to compete with that? The reality of the market is that where all the money is kind of going to, whether it's American money, Asian money, wherever money, it's going to go where, you know, it's going to get its return on an investment. And I can appreciate that. Now, you know, here at Concacaf, we're lucky because we have a big market. We've been able to make some strides. I mean, just in the time that I walked through the door last 5 years, we've increased the amount of gains we've played by over 2000 games, right? And that's all our members, and that's great. That's more football. That's what they that's what they need. Whether it's Nations League or club football or whatever. And so but that's not a reality in a lot of confederations. And so how do we help that? How do we sort of nurture that? The materials that are required for top level football players and coaches, they come from all over the world. And these clubs that you just mentioned, their assets are multinational. They're not European players, or English players, let's say, you know, an EPL. Their players were all over the world. So I think a bit who's us to take care of global football to nurture these talents to nurture the game so that, you know, everybody, you know, players will always find their way to the best league in the world. And I have no issues with that. But just because we can't also neglect where these players are coming from, and the countries that come from, we have to find a way that we don't leave them behind and we do the proper thing because when FIFA generates revenue, there's a global distribution..

"The season against new cat. yes. I understand that santiago. Saudi tried different things shaking up. He's starting lineup. but still it was a bad laws. it was india and it wasn't three to one. But i think we can all agree that the look at good of scored five or six on america last week and so the word is good enough. Because it's still very early in the regular season now compla- time time is a different story but asked for now. Just when you're in. Vegas last big raiders. Just win baby. That's it that's all matters. Sevi- you're an american east. You buy this. So i i wouldn't mind three nothing. I wouldn't mind a four. Nothing but yeah i think regular season. I'm absolutely okay with a one. Nothing adjust win baby. Any victory in a classical nacional is good enough especially with as weak as they are now. If i were to steal a point or win it would be devastating as because you really do feel like this is the moment to deliver a big blow to your to your key nemesis. Your archrival you don't agree. I one hundred percent agree with you is all i've been hearing about is a medical will finally have their full team the full line of the first choice. Line of four salote. So now you're telling me. I've got east anita's with me and they're saying hey just hoping you'll take it if if this is the first time if this is the first time that we're actually get to see the stellar lineup. They haven't played together at all during the season. So it is okay just to get things going by getting the w art so we got some other news out of mexico this week and that is about the pack though the cover gyros gentlemen's agreement translated in english which is really a an agreement between the owners of the mexican league which effectively prohibited professional mexican. "Called me and said this movie. You will love this movie. It is spectacular watch. It's marlee matlin. Who i i loved on the west wing he goes. You've got to watch this as soon as possible. And i went to idaho. And i haven't watched it yet. Mason watched it instead. It's his absolute favorite movie of the year. My mom watched it. And i was crying at the end whore. Hey what did you think man. You hit an all of it man. It's a great film. it's heartfelt for sure. My mom was crying. Brenda Because base arkwright but man. My mom was crying. It is a very heartfelt movie. It is a little different. I i watched because handle that represented as well and man. It's a must watch this year for for for real okay so for people who don't know coca co da stands for children of death adults so it's right to explain it as serious subject matter right comedy. It's not but apparently it's very touching and three people ben mason and my mom and now allied you to the list all give it five stars across the board. So if you're looking to watch it's in theaters or you can or you probably watch an apple. Plus i i did. You can watch it on on apple. Plus so there's a back to the original question ramona. There's a ton to watch now and there's so many choices and i think in the pandemic got married to their tv and so it's hard okay so every night eight. Yeah so lemme right so. Let me pivot to something and i'm going to need your help here. Let me pivot to something that happened last night. At the major league soccer all-star game it was at bank of california stadium. That's the the new stadium home of l. Afc that is a state of the art soccer stadium right next to usc so the all star game in soccer was the mls against lalita. In horry those are competing. Soccer leagues right. Lilia mex- the mexican league okay. So the all stars from the major league soccer run one team and the all stars for bodyguard were on the other team and at the start of the game. They stopped it. They stopped in all star game because the crowd started making a homophobic chant and hori. This isn't the first time this chance been hurt at a soccer game. Right now is not the first time. And it's it's. It's really really hard to stop it because not everybody's getting on the same page with sucks. Okay now explain to me the best you can. I know you can't say what exactly what is they're saying. What is it is it making fun of gay people as it made it. Okay it is. It's a it's a slur against gay people in it happens against the opponent like against the the The visitors sides goalkeeper. Every time kicks the ball off into play from you know from from his side right. Yeah okay whatever it. They start chanting visit and they they do it in a way where it's heard all over the stadium and then even tv and radio are having trouble sleeping it out so it's just one of these must must be stopped. Okay so ramona. What they did was they stopped. I i can't believe this happened in an all star game a game. That doesn't even count those. I mean that's as racist as you can get or homophobic you can get was the league. Right momo to stop the game would be smarter to just ignore it or as he points out. Because you're doing this on radio and tv everybody's going to hear it and it's impossible to ignore it. I think that's probably right. I don't know there's a part of me that set like who who is doing the chant. The way they could deck is the whole crowd. I think well for example at l. Afc games. there's a group called the thirty to fifty two. That i guess where he in the early days. They had some issues with them but they they stopped at themselves right. They went to the leaders of the of the fan group. And they said look. We're gonna get penalized for this and maybe you have to forfeit and they knocked it off. So we can't we can't tied to just one section right. It happens all over the all of the stadium. Yeah so ramone. This may be the only thing they can do like. I think you're right like i go to. This is how i deal with a toddler. Okay the give them a couple of chances right you say daniel really likes to throw my phone okay. He he loves to throw everything now. And i say you can't throw mommy's phone like you wanna watch the rhymes on it but you can't throw. He's going to get the screens already cracked like he thinks. It's funny you know and it's like you know he doesn't know that i need my phone for work and whatever and i don't wanna get us know doesn't care yeah just thinks it's funny and so the first time i say no. You can't do that the second time. We have some think time which is thirty seconds where i bake them. Just basically stand there. And i don't talk to many crises okay. I literally ignore him. And it's thirty seconds of him just screaming okay and then the third time it's like we're not we're taking it away. We're not doing anymore like that's how you have to teach them after you have to take things away. You can't just say well except for what hora said. It's not the whole stadium. That's doing so but if you're going to see him they tried right didn't seem like they have people. I watched both leagues. And it's you know the majority of the people. Screaming is from the mexican league. And and i hate saying that because it is true There's been occasions where even the national team has had to stop people from the stadium and watch these games which sucks because as a fan you want to enjoy like every every soccer event you can but with people not getting on saint page trying to stop. This is just making it hard as a fan to go in one of these games..

"Won't that's actually great speaker to done occur. Yup oh man. I don't mind. That sounds like some warlord coming through the jungle. I'm into it all right. Speaking of things. I may or may not be into but i know ian is cloud. Nine had an interesting weekend this week because they kicked it off with the result that everyone predicted right. Everyone on this cast just new cloud. I coming up by brand new eighty kerry there are of course gonna drop it the worst team in the league right. That's you guys. i'll put right. Oh it's just me. Cloud nine loss to golden guardians to start off the split And things don't exactly get better from there They do lose than to one hundred thieves before turning it around and beating team liquid. Ian talked me about cloud nine. Yeah so. I think coming off of this weekend. There's two major things that i noticed. The first is that perks in particular has major issues This weekend specifically with his positioning after leaning phase. It costs you nine in every single game especially the hundred thieves game it so obvious and that one was very uncharacteristic of perks as well as c. Nine as a whole to just seem very uncoordinated after leaning phase during a lot of their lot of their time however. I think that there is a lot of good stuff still here. We're seeing a lot of the classic scene. I like really good setup for team might team fights at points They were in control of the golden guardians game for most of the game. I guess you made a little face there. It was pretty hectic at the start but they did take control of the game definitively however the team fights were they were. They were winning the by the skin of their teeth. I'll say that and then the team liquid game was actually pretty good overall. Mainly because team liquid gives up gwen in that champions really stupid right now and nine also had silence versus a lulu so would steal lulu and the gwynn and it was just impossible like why would you give up gwynn. I just don't understand the yes. So -til dr weakened foresee nine not what we will not what you want as nine fan but when you look at it as a whole it doesn't feel horrible especially considering king is sudden and especially sean. What you were saying are coming off that msi. So i expect full well within a week or two. They're going to be back to full form as a practice right very very little preparation time. Yeah kind of wild. And they did pull out outside of what they added the. Va go to their comp for game one outside of that one pick everything else was like. Hey this was one or two at msi which is no longer really the case. Yeah So not also wouldn't be sitting if c nine spent a ton of time preparing for the team liquid game because they only had a few days to prepare. So it's like all right. Let's just prepare for the game because that's the one that matters the most to us and then they just spent zero time on golden guardians and it ended up biting them in the ass. I could totally see that as well. Yeah fair enough okay. Well let's talk third place teams. Then we've got one hundred thieves digging tossing team liquid. Let's one hundred thieves odin. I believe that's you my man. Oh it's jack's time gulf war. That's sorry i always forget. I took hundred thieves this year. He smashed out from under this. I all right so hundred. Thieves started out a real rough. Like i don't know why. For whatever reason avocado gay was on karma duty this weekend all three games by the way the foot but in game one it made no fucking sense like any version of karma made no fucking sense because they had an editorial comm- was the other damage dealer with the hell does karma bring to the table and that's exactly what we saw immortals got crushed by having such a shitty draft. They literally could not play the game. Four hundred got crushed by immortals having such a shitty draft that could not play the game then clouds roll karma comp right but they didn't put the rest of the pieces together to make it work and game one and the thing is like if they were playing. Ezra karma bought. That's a really dominant strong bottling for leaning phase and then the karma just buffs up someone else leader so it's fine but this was karma mid any still going to support building karma mid. It was fucking useless but then they played against cloud nine. They're still put dog and carmody for some reason the drafted accomp- benefits from a karma they had a who likes the run speed. So you can get in. Without having to burn his dash. They had a virus who does shitloads of damage way. Better for karma and cloud nine kind of into draft really hard and then kind of into play really hard game three again hundred. These puts an karma but again actually drafts a fucking karma. Comp they put. Fbi on ma got zinn. Jargon makes way more sense karma fits this draft and they steamrolled dignifies weird fucking draft that will cover when we talk dignitaries because this needs to be addressed in their own section. I'm focusing so much on the dog. Being on karma duty because the rest of hundred these was more or less what you'd expect. Fbi and who he worked great closer was hit or miss someday was good but not as good as he should be given that he someday and that's about where we expect the rest of hundred. These abbot was the wild card and we didn't learn much when they put him okarma all three games closer. I thought was. This was the thing. I was looking at one hundred thieves. Can they make closer work. Can we get golden guardians closer back onto this roster by adding an autodial gay former teammate. From years ago someone he could probably trust just generally even if he didn't know him because he's just a better player than any of the midlanders that have worked with before. Closer was so much more proactive. Especially i think it's in that second game vs cloud nine where he's actually all over the map constantly making things happen i eight minutes and it just looked so much more like the closer old and i was thrilled to see that it wasn't consistent across all three games and he did struggle particularly in a game against immortals but he was trying to do things again and it felt like he had a little bit more confidence back. And i'm hopeful that that continues because this should be roster that contends for number one if not at least just clear top three and they're in there right now to martinez is for sure they better. I mean they've put so much money into this roster like it's world or bust for them right that will say the same thing about a couple of teams including this next one which is team liquid who invested a shit ton of money into a player who they benched after a single game. Al fiery was benched and during this actual broadcast. We're talking about right now. We're recording and during this al-farr tweeted was gonna get chick-fil-a for dinner then saw an ad for aaa and decided fuck it. Why not. let's get some mexican wasn't spur of the moment by the way calculated this a month in advance. Which was a pretty clear sarcastic. Comment that mirrors almost exactly what jet said in his interview this morning or yesterday or some high anchin in the deal house right now holmen. It has been one weekend either. He is like crazy and everyone team liquids in on it or this is like big fucking yikes lot ago. Yeah big money. Then you bench him any pull in an academy player. Who had no idea who's playing until.

Ian eight minutes yesterday this week second game this morning this year first hundred thieves zero time top three one pick this weekend third place three games nine fan game one Nine one weekend number one

"The world. Dot Com yes hopper savvy would was in Germany. He played just as bad as anybody. Six of the eleven starters are in analysts polera. Eleven eleven starters in that game products. Listen listen was it politic. I just named three. That's probably would hit but what I'm trying to tell you is core of that team were. WHO's in goal? Our who's the captain. So who's The star striker. Do off the bat settle settle down. Settle Down it's why they came shocker and took the money they will worse the national all case. Well then they were full. Uh No not because of one game I. I understand what you're saying. That was not a one game qualification cycle. That was a ten game where they finished. Fifth out of six teams teams. That's much different than the one game. One game we talked about different all right but if you Tim Howard coming to national what thirty six years old and in Clint Dempsey coming at thirty two. Those are much different than I will. Concede a Josie outdoor Michael Bradley. Come in when they're twenty five twenty-six much different but the pros. US soccer run much deeper major league. That's all I'm getting at when those guys came back and took the money as they are well within within their rights to do for the United States. The only issue was that they kept getting called into the national team. If you have a good enough national team player base that you can replace those players you survive. What are we talked about Brazil Argentina but I think Mexico has a much for pool to? Yes we've just talked about JJ humanitas they're all journalists under his name one year. That's what has has under but you just glossing pass out menace has one. He's got at fourteen months. Can Europe all right. But but look they haven't been able to replace Josie. I'm not real Europe and what is using Holland. Yeah that's those. Count Shuki goals in account. Now not boone trying to tell you. Don't compare them to the US. I use that as a barometer compare but I'm comparing but there's only one life. Both that's the reason why Mexico's not getting better. Because they're in this region right but generally this is going to be. This is going to have an impact on the Mexican national. It's only going to trend. is going to keep happening. Yeah I eventually have an impact but how many players get exported. I mean would you rather have and I'll be honest. Would you rather have the situation that legalizes in right now or him to be a contributor frail. AFC while really good question. But I think I want him in Europe training. Do you know what happened but I think eventually what happens if no you don't well you know what happens if you don't play and they don't send you down to the second division. Play the next day after everybody's regenerating junior region. You're training with the handful handful of players that didn't play also and you're playing three aside right. You don't fitness Internet getting better okay. Linus has seen a little more active experience. Gets you better. Yeah yeah to some extent I think. But you're you're saying you're counting for a failure from the player in Europe No. I'm not accounting for failure on reality and and you know the players don't they. They've been on themselves right. Don't you guys bet on yourself of course but what's the most important thing they tell you to do. When you're younger? Save your money the way right right play in play everything. Whatever you get a chance go somewhere where you think you're gonNA play? That's it a few more things to kind of touch on since. MLS media days and and they're kind of floating about I'm I think he's probably touch on Allah. I think there was a lot of noise about arrival here. Mostly because of the brand. If I'm being honest the only reason I look at Lambeau. Leo's resume I mean it does is nothing for me but it's a little something. It's World Cup. Little European experience a World Cup that he made national team experience. Multiple Multiple Championships didn't play and didn't play. It's all right but it is a little categorize awesome player in three and when I was asked about what I thought believable deal. I'll say I will categorize Mexican player in three. You have a do your are your Turkey Lozano minutes with great and acid rate signing talk for animal as Hobbes. Here you have your player be this young a young Mexican player like you see the South Americans going into major leagues that you own bed on the upside like greater that would be then you have your see somewhere in the middle of age. Someone their middle success somewhere in the middle of popularity that would be a landfill leader and in that AH category that little category you talk about. He's the best because he's got the the the the shine of the brand and most recently being so air quotes the top goalscorer right. Damn what do you think of the move though I mean it's I dunno ads Equity Army because he took like thirty eight penalties and she gets a million penalties the wall and I mean and also I think being the leading goal scorer in Mexico. You have to acknowledge it's a half season. It's not the same easy here is a great. It's a great accomplishment. Being a leading goalscorer over I think over the years the reason I brought that to ended up here the reason I bring up bullied is because when he left left Mexico in an interview with the. ESPN this he talked about Being the leading goal scorer in Mexico and that it was it was odd to him to Nazi himself then called into the the national team as a result and I started to think about it and we actually talked about that interview right after it happened and I think we came to the agreement that he wasn't in the national team picture but I have to say if there's a Mexican player in the Mexican League it's scoring any amount of goals ever let alone being leading score. They should absolutely be called into the national team based on recent history history. Well you just said it will. We're talking about your study. You look at WHO's ahead of them right now. What do you do? You're GONNA move now. No you're going to sacrifice the pro the the progression of a hotel hotel no do. Yeah Yeah I mean. Is He the third best Mexican striker. No Yeah I mean for me. He's he's probably no considered chetty still still in that in that group and then after that I think he can throw his name into that next tier but I think there are guys that you're entering a great one because even better beater even better example but system right. How many times have we say? I'M NOT GONNA play too right so he's not going to play with to and he only plays one. It's a specific skill set. He's looking for that eliminates all players can fully plays way back into the national national team from MLS 'cause you don't think he's going to score. I don't think he's GonNa Score. Live scores Below fifteen goals. I because magic numbers ten or thirteen then no way. He's getting called back into the national number different player but got called in with. What a goal? Yeah but that's so different. I mean he gives you something very specific that thought that wants on the wings. That's what I'm that's what I'm saying. Who des Those GonNa play? Let's be honest realistically in Peter System in that four three three. I don't think he's GonNa play as a nine. I really don't think he'll play off a nine. Maybe on the wing on the left hand side spent that much money for left wing. I'm being honest. I don't believe the plane back to gold. You do you think he's going to be a nine. The Co that brings other players into the game he drifts wide every time he gets a chance. Ah what I'm trying to tell you. So so if I'm that the Martino and I'm looking for a specific skill set and I'm saying all right if that's his tendencies to drift wide on the left left hand side so everything's on the right and his right foot. Am I really going to play him over and listen. He's got his issues with that. Got The tito a Tequila Sano. Odiele Antuna no you know. It's the deepest spot comeback. It's the deepest but you're right there's no Keno who who's shown you very little but potentially it could slide into that role. The point I would make though is that polio does have a case like I think just being being like it's really. It is really weird. That can you ever think of another Mexican leading score. Not Getting called in. I think they'll ask me leading Mexican leading score right. They know with them. Yeah I believe he was the last one but that had more to do with just personality analogy. Yeah he was always the point is like it is it is. It is not normal for a player that much success in the Mexican league and get not get cut in but as you explain it I'll be really honest relative success on a personal level or deviant but Outta but he was always being called in. Yeah totally Couple all things to clean up. We have the schedule for March Czech Republic and Greece one in Charlotte one in Arlington plane in. Oh the the first one in Arlington House. He's GonNa say playing in the Czech Republic Gray experience playing in Greece. That's going to be so it is what it is. I mean this isn't this isn't bothering the Czech Republic. I don't see Peter de Checking goal in this in this day. You can expect the Czech Czech Republic a team the Greek eight team. I think I think you can hope for that. Whereas in the past we have actually seen like Iceland C team? Las Vegas. Yes yes. I mean literally cash grabs ABS-. Yeah what do you think of that competition though. Neither those teams screams to me anyway. That's the best I can get. So it's it's not bad because if you think about it with canoes the new schedule and because a nation's League in Europe new schedule because initially here it's South American opposition and if it's not the magnum position that's going to be as good as it gets very good We will do this again sometime soon. I don't know if we should commander promise people anything right now. You can't commit to well. Wow that's another conversation for another time How do we do this do this like once a month? But let's tell the folks about what we're doing on Youtube because it encompasses a little mini segments of this right right so basically McKee's and Mexican national team coverage we're GONNA take onto the ESPN AFC Youtube Channel We do a lot of their. You gotTA subscribe. I think they already got Somewhere north of half a million subscribers you welcome was that all you got to give a little credit. I'm not gonNA take take all that credit right but but we're going to be cranking out content.

"Was a very edit. Welcome back to the ninety six podcast. It's Me Rob Sorry I've been really busy. got a lot going on That's why this episode is late. It might be a little bit shorter. Yeah I mean it's the New Year so I'll let you guys know I've been living in Germany now for since two thousand fifteen. This time I've lived here. You know a bunch of other times in the past But I got a new job so I'm going to move back to the US. I'm at the end of January. So you know it's pretty quick Found out like a couple of days after new years that That I got accepted for the position. So I m going to be moving to Texas San Antonio specifically typically You know I kinda got a lot of stuff going on right now. Committed to the podcast but You know you know there's still life stuff happening so Just had a lot of stuff I had to take care of. So that's why this episode is going to be late You know over the next course of probably the next two the three months there might be you know a week or two where I have to shift the podcast. Because I'll be traveling or you know getting set up in my new location mm-hmm but just keep in mind that I am absolutely committed to this podcast. I was not my intention to to have this episode late but stuff happens I had to take care of some stuff with my wife On Monday and I plan on recording podcasts. We'd go up to you know to Frankfurt Here in Germany and and I plan on recording the podcast in the car on the way back but It wasn't able to because the drive and you know it just it would have been weird trying to record and drive at at the same time and you know my wife was falling asleep on the way back and Yada Yada but Yeah just won't let you guys know that so obviously you know moving back to the US. It's not going to change You know me watching you know the European Leagues but I will probably be watching a lot more. MLS Actually I probably watch more of the Mexican League as well as I mentioned him. Any move into San Antonio everybody knows the San Antonio really only has has one major sports team they have the the San Antonio Spurs Austin Texas isn't too far away and not this upcoming coming season but the twenty twenty one season Austin we'll be getting a An MLS team Austin F C So so you know. We'll see how that goes to be cool to be able to go check them out their first year in the MLS have meant to an MLS game probably since two thousand fourteen probably Yeah but I'm GonNa Miss You know being here in Europe. I don't plan plan on being away for too long couple years but This is going to break my streak. I mentioned probably like the first episode. So the PODCAST. I had been in Europe for every European Championship since two thousand and I expect that fully expected to still be here for this one But it's not going to be the case I'm actually going to be in the US in Texas Watching the boroughs from from the from the US so It also sucks. Because for Christmas I got a a ticket to go see cigar. Play Escobar Owl. That won't be when it's that I think the in thing it's next month. Yeah it's on the eighth. I'm going to be leaving here like right around the end of January someone a mistake game by a week week and a half but like I said it's not GonNa Change how I approach. The game is just going to change my time zone and my location. I'm going to be the central time zone of the US which is what seven hours from from Central European time So I'll just have to wake up early. You know to watch some of the games kind of like the guys over at soccer stupid stupid there in California. They have to get up stupid early to to watch the EPL games that they cover you know. Watch Liverpool Man City like they like take or recorded her DVR so Do people still use. DVR Now this Oh they call it. I don't even know I. I don't know I've been a way for that regardless but I'll be recording games Still checking out all the league's that interest me definitely champions Amis league rope a League Bundesliga and the other four big leagues here in Europe. So yeah it's a pretty huge change but I am definitely looking forward to it and like I said just bear with me. There may be some times when the podcast will be daily or may have to day or two late or or I may have to just cancel when for a week you know based on what's going on so I just want to let you guys know that now onto the football this is probably like one of my least favorite times of the year right after the New Year because there is no Bundesliga happening so you know. There's a bunch of transfer rumors and you know this that and the other and you know soccer life is football. Life is pretty quiet here in in Germany. You know the teams are playing friendlies and you know they're meaningless friendlies halftime you can find the results for unless you know exactly where to look. Look Likes to purchase played Basel the other day. I didn't look at the results because I still want to watch the game Yeah so it's just it's just really quiet and because of all the transfer stuff is going on now. You know That that's one of the disadvantages. I think that the Bundesliga has I mean. I think it's great for the players. They get that that additional month off Be Able to to rest up and you know they come back pretty fresh they get data somewhat avoid the the colder weather. Even though here's to guard it's been pretty pretty decent Like today was you know. Thirteen degrees Celsius which is pretty nice. I mean it hasn't snowed here yet. I can't speak for some of the other parts of Germany but His definitely good. I do think that February those probably GonNa be a lot colder than it is right now and the players have to deal with that. It's been a long time the that I've known here in Germany at least had to cancel a game Do the snow. You know they do bring out the orange ball once in a while. But I've never that I can remember I've never seen them Cancel or postpone a match because of weather here in Germany So yeah so waiting for The Bundesliga to star backup. Unfortunately I will be able to well. I guess it's fortunately I'll be able to watch Stu Guards next match while I'm still here And I'm going to have to figure out once it gets to the. US how to how to watch you know all my Bundesliga matches and everything else not only sleet but you know Syria premier-league Lolita and league Yeah I don't know we'll figure it out but okay so one of the big matches that I haven't talked about 'cause canete few days off was The Spanish supercup and in Barcelona failing to make it to the final of that you know everybody thought we're going to class ago final I know that's what I was expecting. But they they weren't able to get past Athletico Madrid trid so set up an all Madrid. Final Madrid Darby for the Spanish supercup And then and Edens the Dan. I mean the guys. I don't know if you can necessarily Tim. You can't really say that it's not him but He just has a way to to win finals once he reaches them. You know I don't know what the official stats are but He I think he's undefeated in finals. That he's made it to so suspended supercup. Technically you know. It's like a made up additional a level with the the semi-final instead of just having the winners of the league versus winners the Copa Del Rey. They added two additional teams to make it a mini tournament. You know mainly because they can get you know additional money from the Saudi's or however however But it's still final deserves a semi-final and even though the game ended zero zero Real Madrid was able to win four one on penalties. And you know bring home another trophy to to the Bernabeu so Greta them. I mean in the beginning of the season early on I mean. It seemed like they were were definitely struggling. They were still missing Rinaldo But now you know I mean there's you know the top two in the league in their excuse me. I mean. They're back to to where they were. You know they had a bad start but You know I mean it's trophy trophy the trophy. So they're still in the running to win Ligo or to compete for the League So Don doing his thing. I mean we'll see how they do in the the The Champions League and the Copa Del Rey but Right now I mean they're they're doing quite well Next up uh-huh Sergio Guerrero He now has a hundred seventy seven goals in the premier league. Which is insane? It's ridiculous hunting goals And he broke the record so he has the record now for the most amount of goals scored by a foreign player in the EPL. He had a hat trick against INSA Ashton Villa and he's able to score one hundred seventy seven goals in only two hundred fifty five Appearances which is this is very impressive. I mean that's that's extremely impressive. It's funny though because I was looking in I've never heard another league really talk about foreign players performing Weller setting records in their leagues I I guess they pl is different. Maybe because the news at I'm reading about. EPL Is always in English. You know. Sometimes I'm reading. You know German news or German football news. It's in German I guess I don't always get you know what exactly the authors trying to say or maybe I'm just not searching for the right things but I've never really heard some of the other leagues talk about foreign players in the records that they said or how well they've done except for the Premier League But no congrats to him. Hopefully they can You know improve on their season Man City that is But yeah congratulations to Sergio girl he's The you the best foreign player to ever play in Well as far as goals go to play in the Let's see what else we got Barcelona. I mean they're. They're on topple alita yet. They decided to sack Valverde I guess it's not making it to the final of the supercup Like I said something to do with it. But if you think about if they hadn't changed that format.
