Burt mar high school lost to milton in the boys basketball state championship. Tell me about that game. First of all congrats margaret's season. They made it a state championship game for the first time in twenty years. So certainly the future right over there. I think this game was played their pace. They played good defense as they always do. They're up seven late in the third quarter there and kinda kinda got cold on the shooting. What it came down to his dismay more place down the stretch When it went mattered in this this is a very good milton. Obviously their number one in the state nationally ranked for reason a very close loss but another future bride over that burma. They're gonna bring four starters back so expect another title run next year in the g. a. c. girls basketball team was playing for the state championship and they lost as well. I think one of their bag games at the wrong time had a really struggled shooting the ball girl from cross creek at thirty points jordan doors usually kind of the impact player of the game. That could slow her down but aside from that still a chance to win the game if they could hit some shots on their own and they just shot less than thirty percents Jc as a team so in this one still. "I'm doing very well. How you doing doing? Well, it's a Wednesday afternoon recording. It's nice. It's got a little warmer here 30 31 degrees. That's why I remember a few was maybe a month ago or so we were talking about the winter and how the recipe any snow nothing to worry about and all of a sudden just get absolutely hammered by snow over the weekend. So I don't know how much you guys got out in western Mass. But I'm out now the MetroWest area found it is it's pretty rough out there that guy completely pretty much snowed in so it took me about ninety minutes to get my car out there. Yeah. I'm from MetroWest. So my fit my family was telling me how much snow they got. We got a good amount of birth. I want least that's what it felt like but it's funny, you know, you mentioned so the warmer weather happening in November December ish. I feel like the home now that the prime Peak winter months are like mid-January to end of March ish. Like it's all this is the time of year where it's most cold as most snow off and not really Decemberists members kind of December's basically summer. This point was you'll also like you have like in November and December at least you have like the holiday season around or even it snows a little bit. You're still Jolly now, we're in like just like though the the worst stretch of the area where it's still so dark at like 4:35 and you see much and you hope that maybe you know extremely right around the corner but most years you still get like two or three nor'easters in February, which is from miserable. Yeah. No, this is easily the worst part of the year if this was a normal year off. Having the Bruins is like the stretch where it's like the dog days right where you just going through the motions pretty much. So yeah. No, there's this this time of year sucks. And that's the funny that you mention is the dog days off cuz usually it's you said this time of year right ones the trade deadline hits then things start to get exciting again, but for a long stretch people forget how boring it is when you're when those you know, those those, you know, Wednesday night games against the Winnipeg Jets in Winnipeg and things like that where I mean, you know, I would go back to that in a second. But if the time it's like the dog days and this year the dog days will probably happen and like March, um, which is better cuz at least March the weather's starting to get nicer. That's why March is one of them. I said this to my friend last year before covid-19 kind of wish I didn't say I said March is maybe one of my favorite months because it's and it it's weird like the March April stretches one of my favorites like when baseball starts up because you get those days where it's like 5560 is around noon where you're like dead. I'm going to wear shorts today. It's beautiful. It's it's just that it's it flips. It flips the switch so fast, I love that time of year last year obviously kind of got bulldozed off hand but a little bit there. But but anyways this year at least the dog days of the NHL season will come around a nice time of year rather than shity January or February. But anyways, speaking of Dog Days the Bruins will be they will not have their upcoming games against the Buffalo Sabres both postponed due to Buffalo. Cobra late issues not bruised related issues. How do these poems postponed games affect the Bruins going forward? Well, if you want to look at the negatives first, which I think the.

"Welcome back to modern money with Mr Lynch Today I'm joined by Julia Becker Colin. She's the chief operating officer of vision advertising, and she's also the founding president and co founder of the Metro West Women's Network. And she's also someone who's been diagnosed with cancer at the height of her career, and I wanted to talk with her today about business and about some of the things that she has learned and could share with other people who might be in a similar situation because there's not a lot of talk about it, and I think it's something that so many of us are either going to experience or might have someone that we love experiencing, and I think it's a good thing for people to You know, to learn more about and figure out how to really be a better co worker, be a better friend and really help people who might be going through more than just the pandemic right now. So thank you so much Julia for joining me. Thank you so much for having me misty. Really? Can you talk a little bit about your career? I know that I've met you. You're in the MetroWest area and your advertising business is one that you know we've worked with as well. And I think that just tell me a little about how you got to being the chief operating officer of a firm. Absolutely So, as he said, I'm the chief operating officer of vision advertising, where 100% women owned women run full service marketing agency based in Westborough, and we also have an office in Portland, Oregon. I have been with the firm for four years prior to coming on board. I was actually with a different marketing agency. Um As their director of marketing, and I was actually the on Lee Woman and all male senior staff, which was a real experience. Very madman style does sound. It sounds exactly exactly that's really what it felt like on them. Prior to that, I work for 10 years in Boston at different nonprofits. Doing marketing event programming and planning. Major gifts Donations fund raising for non profits that were Have a variety of sizes, everything from very small that had an operating budget of under $300,000 a year upwards of millions of millions of dollars on I worked with them to grow departments, create new systems and operations and standards, raised a lot of money and really try to have an impact on those communities. And over that time I learned that a I really can't commute from the Natural West Area is Boston and have any kind of You know, sustainable life outside of work, which is just not healthy for anyway, because if you're listening to this, and you don't live in the Boston area, it's like commuting in L a traffic. It's you know, it's upwards of two hours each way. Um and I also knew I needed to grow in my career, but I was trying to figure out how so I ended up getting up a master's degree in business from Framingham State. And I did that at night while I worked in Boston, which is really just a great way of saying I didn't sleep a lot for 10 years now it's time for fun, but exactly and then, like you said I also found it the Metro West Women's Network because after I stopped working in Boston, you know you build this whole community and this whole network when you work in an area for 10 years and then I left working in Boston because I couldn't handle the commune in them. You know how long it would take And that was great now, so glad to have a shorter commute. Have some quality of life back, but suddenly my whole network was gone. So rather than sit around and wait for my neck work to find me, I decided to take action and create a network. So I worked with another woman who had recently just gone through the same thing where she decided to no longer work in Boston. And so we created, you know, a really small Facebook group and Over the course of many years. It grew from 30 people to now it's more than 3500 people that are all active members. And for two years I was president. I, um Created all of the bylaws. The executive committee the fours I moved us from the red to the Black, financially on Git was amazing. And I really launched the business move created the LLC, the financials the whole thing. And after two years, I really couldn't both give that business my all and then also run vision advertising, which is not fair to the business, right? And so it became its own business, right. I think what you start something with a with a Facebook group and, um, some like minded people. Once it grows to that size, it's another exactly, really became time to transition to a leader who could sustain rather than You know, start the business, which, if you're a startup ceo, or you've started a business, you really understand that those are two different kinds of people. And so I went through a transition process where we moved leadership over to Ah, different President. We did a whole PR thing around it and s O. I'm still on the board. But I don't play an active role, which is great for everybody. So we have new blood that's running it and I can kind of sit on the sidelines me like things look amazing. Andre to acknowledge that it needed to be a different role. I think sometimes we find we're you know people with a start up our CEO founder Mindset, It's hard to realize that maybe you're not the perfect person for this position, but I think that's great to see Then things take off in a different way or be able to focus back on. You know the advertising career that you built? Absolutely. I think you know, it's hard as a founder to be able to take a back seat and say, You know, I no longer control this and somebody else is going to do really well with this and You know, I'm gonna leave control to somebody else. But you also have to remind yourself that you've done the best you can and you are no long. And to run it, and, um, you can't like, at least for me. I could not split myself into and run two businesses anymore. And so I really needed to be able to give my full focus division advertising and have somebody else give their lifeblood to the Metro West Women's network and it's You know, it's been incredible. Decision to make because now the Metro West woman's That work has thrived under new leadership, which is always a cold and I have been able to transition into chief operating officer of vision advertising and really enjoyed running the company, so it's been great..

"Connor how we doing? I'm doing swell 11:00 feeling very festive. These days went through a week of watching. Let's see die had Muppet Christmas Carol got all the shopping done some feeling pretty good. How're you doing? Good. I've been I ran a bunch of errands this morning did a lot of Christmas shopping. I did a lot of my Christmas shopping last week the they're not a sponsor obvious because they went out of business. I don't know if everywhere, but I know in Framingham the Bed Bath Beyond is going so everything there's 40 to 60% off and that was where I got I knocked out so much shopping and Christmas shopping for my parents for my sister. For some other family members, so it was really nice to sort of just go there and get things that were normally like sixty bucks for like thirty and forty dollars. So smart move nice head over there. I mean, they need to sell everything over there cuz they're not where they put the stuff they need to sell it. So head over there. I mean I'm a you know, it's funny. Typically I don't do a ton of online shopping for Christmas. I I definitely did a lot of it this year just cuz of the the pandemic but yes, it is starting to feel more like Christmas. It's nice cuz it wasn't feeling like Christmas for a while back. I know we're supposed to get our big snow storm today Thursdays. So that is going to be fun for people to to digest first big snow of the year and have you noticed that all this has started since we first started talking about the fact that there was no snow on the ground. I think it was two weeks ago. And then we got a little Dustin like I would MetroWest got him more than like Boston did vote two weeks ago, but now we're actually going to get a first if you want to call it a dog Stir pretty much is right if it's a foot of snow. Yeah, it is. I'm right. I mean it's it's 12 inches. I know they said it's going to be light and fluffy snow. But I do think that you know, it is a nor'easter imagine being a weatherman. They're kind of going out of style a little bit just cuz with the weather apps that people have and stuff but I feel like they gotta be looking so forward to each snowflake. It's like their time it's sort of like when we get to cover the Stanley Cup, it's like, it's your time. It's your people are watching for you..

"Here with Connor Ian Connor. What is up other much, man, what's going on with you know then much it's it's crazy the snow on the ground feels like last time. Well, we we spoke we were kind of making fun of the fact that didn't feel like December now kind of feels like December. Yes. It's actually pretty bad out. I would hear at least I know around Boston. I wasn't really that bad but I wouldn't have MetroWest area where you're from where I'm currently living a little bit worse. But you know, I was getting sick of like the 60 degree days right when we need to really counter just a little bit, right? Oh, yeah. No, it felt good to see the snow coming down, you know and it's Jarome Iginla said wasn't that big a deal, you know some random guy from Canada a he, you know, he spoke with some snow, but that may be that that might be my favorite song Story of the entire offseason. Just Jarome Iginla getting interviewed on like a rest stop and then Fox 25 does not realising who it was not realizing but also like been like quoting him in the storm. Think like at least someone along the lines would be like, oh, who's that? Oh, yeah. No, it's a Hall of Famer. Yeah, apparently not though. But as long as it's funny though, you do see that like a couple of times like I was looking up like other times when that when that's happened. I think there was once where it was Adrian Peterson thought I think yeah, it was getting interviewed on the street and you could tell like he clearly was like you guys don't know who I am. Okay. Well, I'll shoot the shit but and there's like one that was like call a listener when he's with capitals or he's like Lillian Scott and they were giving him too. So but yeah just affect those just like I always imagined what like for those athletes..

"We would go down the street to get bagels on Sunday mornings. My dad would be wearing like a Jets hat or a Yankee hat and people would Heckle him and like Daddy like why don't they why don't they support you and he's like, oh honey, you'll see if we get it because I can't go anywhere without someone making a comment about my clothes. I mean, I don't have any New England clothing. It's all New York sports gear. So it's been tough, but I've really stuck with it off. My dad was pretty much in charge of raising us into the Sports World. My mom took the backseat on that one and You know, he was successful in brainwashing us but people say but I loved every minute of it. I think kind of like being the odd one out of all my friends going up Yankees Red Sox games and just being decked out in the Yankees gear you get a lot of hate for it, but I kind of like it. So wait a second. You said your mom took a backseat. Does she have any sports affiliations or is she maybe not so into what your dad to do? I mean she is more neutral. She doesn't she's not like a hardcore sports fan. But she is a New England Sports Fan. So when we go to games, she's the one in the red sauce here and we're all Yankees, but she was born and raised in Norwood. So it makes sense. But yeah, she gave my dad power on this one month. I think that's super cute. So you guys go out as a family. She's the only one singled out and the Red Sox gear and you guys are all just sitting there rocking the Yankees stuff like that is so cute dog. Yeah, it's so funny last year. We went to a Yankees Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium and we were right behind the Red Sox Dugout. So every time they captured batter on Deck we were right there and you could see us and it was just Yankees Yankees Yankees Red Sox and we were in New York, too. So she was the only one in that section but She puts up with us. So and before we cut to a quick commercial break shortly. I want to know about your experience growing up in Franklin, Massachusetts home to high school locally in the area. I think you went to high school and Attleboro, which isn't that far from where Emma and I actually used to work or currently do work in wmct and Marlboro. What's your experience like working or going to school actually in that area and just rolling up in Franklin, Mass. I loved growing up in Franklin. I think I'm definitely going to come back whenever I go after this. I'll definitely come back. I just love the town and honestly the Palm Court system. Like I saw in the parade so many of my friends from like fourth grade MetroWest basketball came and then I did go to a private school. I went to Bishop B and so leaving my friends in middle school was kind of hard. But I love that. kind of have two places now where I have friends and builds relationships and then I'm also big families a girl. So I think that's why I stayed so local for college being able to see my friends and family is super important to me and the fact that my parents were able to come to pretty much every single game of my life. Just not the world. So definitely a local girl don't really see myself leaving and I just love the area Local girl going out to City. We're going to cut through a quick commercial break when we come back. We're going to talk to Walmart a little bit about off for gender studies in college and sort of the difference in salaries between male and female athletes, and then Emma is going to Dish all of her secrets and details on all the awesome Charities and blogs. He's been working on and of course, we're going to hear from Lauren about how she's given back since she's been in college. I'll see you guys soon.
