"Than just metro airport. That's the word for mayor, LeRoy Berkoff who was among those talking to business leaders and his political counterparts at the western Wayne business leadership banquet, the mayor spoke live with WWF as Brooke Allen. And Greg Bowman. We're much more than an airport. You know, we're blessed to have Detroit metropolitan airport were thirty six square miles. And we have about twenty five thousand residents, but we have this kind of Donut hole in the is Detroit metro airport, and it's unique from a service model because we have kind of four quadrants around it think about that airport. They have about eighteen thousand badged employs everyday coming and going. So we kind of think of it as like a city within a city. So mayor even though that's a blessing obviously to have the airport here in some ways. I'm sure it's a challenge because you can't really do any development over the over the tarmac. So so is it is it more of a plus a minus it brings a lot of. Attention and money to Romulus. I think it is. I mean, some people, you know, they hear the noise and think of the airport as a distraction, but it really is. We think of as opportunity because it's it's one of the largest economic engines in our region. So we've had a lot of business development in that area. So as long as you're developing we still have an undeveloped land in our city. So I kind of the analogy I use it just like painting the canvas we've got a great opportunity to shape it, but we'd better be pleased when we're done. So there are areas that are known for industrial or commercial or residential as long as you work your plan other certain areas where the runways are that because annoys noise you'd wanna maybe go to industrial versus residential, obviously. But if you work your plan, I think it's more of a plus in anything. Okay. So you have much in the noise, and we talked about this before we came on the air is that a hindrance for people moving to the area. Do people say I don't want to live by the airport. You don't believe it or not like I live on the north west quadrant. So I'll have people at my residents. They don't even know the airports there because we're the runways lineup and where the noise. Actually is typically not in line with the residential. There are some older areas that were there as it evolved and grew as an airport, but believe it or not I'll have people there that hear more about the trains, and they do the airplanes. So what what do you need? What's the biggest challenge facing Romulus? And what are your biggest needs right now? Maybe some of the stuff you'll be talking about today. Absolutely. So so one of the things in common, and the reason I'm here is also representing the conference of western Wayne. So this year, they're chairman, which is basically eighteen communities representing seven hundred thousand residents. So what we do is. We work well together on all local issues that impact notches Romulus. But if you're in Livonia northville are here on township, they're common issues common issues like municipal finance. What's happened over the last twenty years, you know, we're all doing more with less from the state level of the property values that dropped from eight till now is a loss in revenue, so we're all trying to work together roller per sleeves. Nonpartisan just coming to the table. Good government trying to find solves. We do have to go in just a moment. But I do know that you believe in customer service and good customer service. So does that come into play? Absolutely. I mean, I came from the business world. So when I came here and took office in November of twenty thirteen I brought it business management system with it and customers are the residents the businesses everybody because we get our revenue from property tax from Pfizer forfeitures. So our job is to take that revenue and give the best value in service to the customer. So it's really a culture that we put in into place. And I think it's a refreshing culture for people that come into our town. That's Romulus mayor LeRoy Berkoff with WWF as Brooke Allen. And Greg Bowman. It's a win for the Rockies taking on the cubs. We'll update sports heroin-mixed promises promises. They can't keep believe them once and.
