"To see the Amazon Prime Butthole pooping out the packers. Yes. Leave it at the door. I'm I'm curious to know what your experience was with. with how new girl run five, six, seven seasons seven seven seasons. Yeah. No. That is already like rarefied television air you got to go for seven seasons which is. Not. Common particularly now now like it's not that common anymore. But? Getting on a show must have been a like getting on a Sitcom to me. It was always like well, that's the ultimate you get on a Sitcom. Schedule Your said it's fun. You know but. You must have had expectations going into that show. So with it after a season or two that you sort of felt like, oh I you know like, did you notice it any more? Did you have to keep reminding yourself like Hey, this is not happen very often what was what was that experience? Mentally after you up at seven years it was a roller coaster dude, I mean the first season. You know when you first get the call on the show. You know it's a dream come. True. So you don't know what to do. Until. Day Haven't felt that excitement about something. Like the initial excitement you know what I mean So that that that first moment was holy crap. My whole life is about change. I have the skill and this ability to do something that the world's GonNa see finally like I've been telling people I'm really good at this thing like I only get to do it at second city you see be but like I wanna do on tv now you know and finally when someone's approves of you to someone proves to be able to do that. You have this burst of joy but then right afterwards, there's this fear. Go if I fuck it up like now the world will see a fraud might have scam artists like Hopefully I'm good in that first season. There wasn't a lot of development. My characters in my character was a bit of a replacement character so it was A. Character in its entirety. So you know they hadn't written for this character. They hadn't really developed this character yet. So it was a bunch of me just trying to. Piece it together on the fly as my first time being on television like in that capacity. So That fear was weighing on me I thought it was going to be fired every episode. I just thought you know they're gonNA write me off. Winston gets hit by a bus like this is the day Winston you know gets you know he just randomly moves to go somewhere you know and I just and that that was hard for me. In. But the writers in the show Liz meriwether and my fellow actors, they definitely encouraged me and kept saying it's GonNa get better. It's GonNa get better and it did. And then the the normalcy of it all started to kick in where you forget sometimes that you're still lucky to be here, and this isn't a job that you should take lightly because someone genuinely would kill you for this job. There are people out there who would slice my throat to get this job you know, and so I have to stop and remind myself of that Just to just to keep the excitement going as well because. This is our what we do what we get to do for a living very privileged to do it, but it wasn't easy. I mean I'm sure you've had your roadblocks in your ups and downs the same way everybody else does. And as long as you keep that in the back of your mind..

When we had Max on, we asked him a question and he didn't skip a beat. Now, I have A. Superstar takes on this actually 'cause I've waned with my opinion I used to firmly believe that nick ended up with Reagan and in my carton washed. New Girl. Nonstop you guys do you know when you were filming like you were going to be on the Pantheon of sitcoms like once it hit Netflix's I. Feel like it really really took off. It's whenever I tweet about Nick Miller I it goes viral almost every time. I'll be honest with you I think I. Know we did. You know the difference with new girl which was frustrating was. I think we all knew we had somewhat of a Dream Team. I think we had a great cast on that and we had a killer crew. and Liz meriwether as show runner is a monster creatively and we had some killer writers We were not a show that was widely loved. On so the first season, we got a lot of attention and people liked it and we had a moment of like, oh, we could be one of those shows, but by season three and season four. It. was more when I would go out, people would go you still doing that show and I'm like Yes asshole it's on tonight. It's worrying a second life but more think new girl has always been niche group of people who love it and to them. It's huge. So there's still a huge population who've never heard of it and never will and I mean I guess that's more the. Everything is really fragmented, but new girl has always been in my opinion very loud in a very small group I. Think I think you're underselling it. Now I think that group has grown exponentially with everything when it gets on streaming gets that second push I I don't know why I watched. I watched the premiere and like I, wasn't really. Stupid. No it was like it was like I wasn't really. that. With new girl. It's the only thing I've ever done where and I'm not saying you this nic but people for that move men especially dudes always.

Fonts Can Send Political Messages

"Here's something weird. Certain thoughts can send political messages. And with that. I am announcing my campaign for presidency using economic sense. Ms Well actually when you listen to this research you're gonNA realize why you don't WanNA use Comic Sans. Because nobody likes. It and liking fonts is one big part of this. I like Comic Sans No you. Don't nobody likes Comic Sans Vinyl run using papyrus even worse. My running mate will be Matthew mcconaughey all right well. A little while ago. A researcher at Virginia Tech named Kathryn Hanshin Notice that a local political candidate use different fonts on their signs in rural areas than they did in town as a political messaging expert. She wondered. Why was there. Something different about the fonts that worked best with people in the city versus people in the country so Hanshin turn that question into a research project. She and her team surveyed more than two thousand people to find out what they thought of various typefaces. And whether they thought fonts lined up with political ideologies sure enough they found that fonts can send political messages people see Fonseca's having liberal or conservative leanings. And the more people think of aligns with their thinking the more they'll like it. So here's the breakdown. Funds come in two basic varieties Sarath and sans Serif. A Sarah is a little liner stroke at the end of a letter. Think Times New Roman or your classic typewriter font the stuff you see in Newspapers Sans Serif Fonts are the ones without syrups silicon Arial Helvetica or the meriwether sands of the curiosity logo or just look at your keyboard right now. Chances are those letters are in a San Serif style. The study showed that generally speaking Sarah Fonts are considered more conservative and Sans Serif. Fonts are seen as more liberal. Bold type is seen as more conservative than Italic type but there are some differences within font families for example the highly serif black letter typeface. You usually see on the masthead of the New York Times and the Washington Post was seen as more liberal by conservative participants. Possibly because that's how they see these outlets specifically the important thing is that the more people viewed a font aligned with their ideology the more they liked it and vice versa. Basically this research shows that fonts have meaning and they're not just all about looks so as the two thousand twenty election heats up maybe take a closer look at those lawn. Signs and billboards design has a bigger impact than you think.

"AM, seven Tucson's. Most stimulating talk three things. I think you need to know the illegal alien that we talked about a couple of days ago that was released by Middlesex County, New Jersey back in December because they are sanctuary county. They wanna work with ice just picked up in Missouri for murdering three people turns out, he was a two time Decca recipients, we'll get into that. And that just nice second thing that I think you need to know the caravan at Joe Scarborough and his face in his billboard is. And I really think I'm offending Dilbert. When that happens, and I don't want to because like Scott Adams. Anyway, Joe Scarborough says this caravan is a conspiracy theory, and it cost Trump the election. Well, this caravan already arrived in Tijuana, and it's near San Diego. And as a matter of fact, they were sitting on top of the the Bollard fence, they add there. These these migrants sitting on top until Borba came by they jumped back into the Mexican side. But you're right nothing to see here. It's all good. Third thing that I think you need to know in Palm Beach county, every ballot-counting machine broke down. So all started seventy nine thousand early votes need to be recounted what a mess Palm Beach county Broward County Broward. I don't think he's even begun counting early votes. What a disaster what a disaster. There you go three things, I think you need to know. So some we haven't been all of these crazy schools. There's been overrun by politics. And there's always politics. It is what it is. Don't and we have plenty of stories. Don't get me wrong. I'm gonna get to all these things. But there's a lot of stuff to talk about today. And some of these things I was like, you gotta be kidding me. What what is what is the deal right here? A professor at a university actually did the right thing and for doing the right thing. Was reprimanded by his university. So now he's suing them because that's what we do. Right. That's that's what we do. A guy named nNcholas Meriwether teaches philosophy and religion at shawnee state university in Portsmouth, Ohio. He refused to call a male students that identifies as a chick, sir. Actually was chastised by calling him, Sarah. So as a male student that identifies as a female. And the obviously a male and the Ohio professor was calling the students, sir. He's now suing officials stating is evangelical Christian beliefs dictated, his actions. And then at the university is violating his constitutional rights. In January twenty eighteen a male student demanded that Dr Meriwether address him as a woman because he identified as such and threatened to have Dr Mary Mary weather fired if he declined. Oh, that's going to get you. Yeah. Right. You better. Call me, by the way. What kind of grade you think you're gonna get, you know, by the way, if this this professor legal, screw you. I'm giving you an effort D or whatever then it'd be a big problem. But if you're a conservative, and you speak up, a disagree, and you get a deer, and nobody university and university doesn't ever do anything about it. Right. So anyway. This. This is this is crazy this professor this doctor was going to do this. It would go against his religious beliefs. Even forget religion. How about common frigging sense, right? So. He didn't want to do that. He has sincerely held Christian beliefs. And you wanna do that? The lawsuit also notes that Meriwether addresses students as sir or mister show respect imagine that well, you didn't respect me. I'm obviously a man, but I feel like a chicken side called me what I want to be gotten. I forget you. Apparently, they reported after that after they they met her class the professor and the student. The students circled Meriwether threateningly compared the professor's refusal to use the students preferred pronoun just someone calling him a seaward horrible word that people call women sometimes. So this is this do that says he's a chick. Was circling around circling around in a very threatening manner. And said if you don't do this. It's the same as someone calling me a seaward student complained twice to university. There was a title nine investigation. Yeah. Heavy dot com reported that the doctor Dr Meriwether said he would address the student using the students last name. Well, shawnee state university started this investigation deciding Meriwether violated the school's anti-discrimination policy by refusing to call the student by the students preferred pronoun, so they wrote them up, right? They wrote him up. So he's like forget this. The lawsuit says university punish this professor for expressing views that differ from its own orthodoxy for declining to express its mandated ideological message, all this stuff, the grammar police you name it. This dude's been there since nineteen Ninety-six said he wasn't discriminating against a student. He added that he treated the student like other biologically male students. He said, I'm a Christian. So you are you're violating my religious rights. And up at Scottsdale, the alliance defending freedom. They filed the lawsuit on behalf of him. They do the dude literally got reprimanded for this reprimanded for this. Are you kidding? Me uses, sir. The guy call students, sir or ma'am. Mister or miss. As a sign of respect. And for that, you get this one wackadoo students. Who says no woman, call me? Call me by my chosen pronoun. It's like a bread kid. You know, I wanna eat cookies for dinner. That's what I want. Go ahead fatty. Yeah. Why can't I have broccoli? I want this. This is I mean, you sit back, and you go, you gotta be kidding me. So this university is now being sued. For threatening. The professor that refused to call a male student miss. Right. That's it. He said that again, he's called Mr. missed, sir, ma'am to students to foster an atmosphere of seriousness and mutual respect that is befitting the college classroom. You know, this reminds me of this reminds me of what what this Jim Acosta situation, you have Jim Acosta who acts like a complete moron. Out of control, no respect nothing. Like that. Right. Nothing. Like that at all. And no respect zero zilch. And. Kosta gay because he doesn't act with the right decorum. Respect gets his press pass bowl, which that's what happens. And now he is suing the White House CNN suing the White House suing Trump as if the world's going to end Jim Acosta kinky about a frigging report. Like if you can't get up there and be a jerk hole, and as the president stupid things and make it all about him. It's the same thing is a deformed his respect. Apparently. It's you don't abide by that by later. That's what happens. Stood. The professor said, listen, I'll just call you by your last name Bruening. Nope. Not good enough. Call me miss Bruening miss burning. This. Yes, this is this is what's going on. This is what it's about this. This is what's really gonna make college better? Right. By the way, not the only place Fordham university. They're doing something similar their political science department at Fordham announced that it had voted unanimously to adopt the new policy regarding students preferred names and gender pronouns. Now the mandate professors to use a student's preferred name and pronoun. Yep. You I got into this conversation when I was with. My wife's friends college friends. We saw them over the weekend and one of the guy's radio show. But it's like they still are afraid of let's say whatever they want to each other. It's still afraid to be non PC in a way. Because all of a sudden the whole transgender or something he's like, you the, you know, what a lot of these people are middle upper thirties thirties mind, getting old. I'm I'm I'm older than some of them. So what were they said is that the people relying on religion? They don't like that some people are religious, and they look up to it. But I don't care if two dudes wanna get together a two chicks. And that's the way I'm like, whatever. That's what makes you. I don't care. I don't care some very religious people. Don't like that some very religious people don't care. So I said, I don't care. It's fine. You believe whatever you want. I mean, you know, I don't give a crap what people want I said. But what I don't like is when a transgender person demands that the there'd be able to use a different persons bathroom. I don't I don't want a do the claims to be a chick. Using that as an excuse to go to the bathroom with my wife. Make sure uncomfortable. Why wouldn't it most women would feel uncomfortable? I don't care. No, no, not. And I said I don't like that the fact that they demanded businesses build certain bathrooms to accommodate them. It's their business. Give me a break. He said, no, no. I I see that. And I agree. But you know, some people really feel that way and I'm like. You know, they find you could accept it any way you want. I said, but at the end of the day, if they have Franken beans there a man chromosomes don't lie. That's the way it is. And I said I look at it. As again, I'm not a doctor. And I think what people will, you know, look at a mirror, and he see a guy, but they see a woman. I think it's the same thing. That's just my take. What do I know? But it's just no it's not it's not normal. It's not right. That's what you wanna do in your own time fine. But don't sit there, and you know, the rules have to change just because of you. "Joining us now is a friend of mine and to fellow gladiator, she played Marylou Meriwether and this episode of the west wing, but she's probably best known as president mellie grant from scandal. It's Bellamy young. When you told me you didn't watch the west wing, you never watched it now, isn't that terrible, but then I don't want. I watched like the daily show and John Oliver I, there is no TV show I've watched and it's like I am not a completion est for any TV show period. Not even scandal. There is still some. I haven't seen scandal. I've seen five scandals. Just kidding the. There are a lot of those. I haven't seen the scandal to get some distance. Maybe while you're working on something, I guess you and I are similar as opposed to the rest of the cast, which fetish is watching this show that we were. It's like, hey, we're done with work. She we all go watch what we did at work. I think if you are a big John Oliver and daily show fan that I think you would be a fan of the west wing. I think you ought to give it a shot. Sometime are beautiful. The episode we're gonna talk about today last night and I have seen so moved. And you know, years later year later dating, Josh singer for many, many years, Josh singer who wrote this episode that can't can we talk a second about they'll Ruth comes still real Thomas Ruth, very good. That's talk fee was it was just breathtaking my God, what a show you guys even to get to have like a couple of silly scenes and season five, you know, it just to have been there at all. How did you get the job, Josh singer that we were just talking about. We were at a mutual friend's birthday party in LA, and there was a North Carolina storyline, and he went back the next day to Laura shift who was casting associate, which on. Levy and was like, Dino this Bellamy young girl. 'cause she's from North Carolina. Maybe she'd be right. I'm romantically interested in her. Well, he thought that the guy whose birthday party we were at, he thought that we were there was something ab- ruin any actually lobbied for came down to two of us after the additions and he lobbied for the other person. But of course, he at that point like Alex grave thought he was Alex graves thought he was such pissing that it only worked in my favor that he lobbied against me. Job. At that time you, you were doing episodes of all kinds of different shows your credits up until the west wing. You'd been all kinds of places. Always surprise made rich. Can't say that anymore. Yeah, you're coming off playing the president of the United States. You really can't say that anymore. Well, now, no, thank heavens, but then yes, and to my utter shock, I had forgotten that I was blonde on this episode. So there were also as many guest stars. There were also interational hair-color because it just kept changing would have changed for the part. Do they ask you to be blunt? I recommend experimenting with your hair in your teens like, don't wait your employment? Depends on it. It really was that it was show. Yeah. Mary Lou Meriwether was some odd unnatural..
