Our marriage has seen better days. And I don't see it trending up and I remember that really striking a chord with me. Because I didn't know that their marriage had seen better days of course. That door also have been propped. Open that night that The gentleman that was working as the clerk that night found a rock that had been placed in the door to keep the door from from closing. Well then they plug the camera back in so it's now working again and about six thirty five that morning suddenly that cameras pointing straight at the ceiling. Same camera same camera and it's tampered with yet again. Get back was Jason Young's word. Is it possible? He did make the three hundred forty mile round trip. Could he have killed his wife and cleaned up his daughter? All and seven and a half hours without ever being see find out. Investigators played a hunch. They visited every gas station along. The route showed Jason's photo talk to the night Turks and came across a woman named Gracie dot com in a tiny place called King North Carolina. She took one look at. That photograph. Recognized it instantly. He was the foul mouth customer. She said who came storming into the store to complain that the pumps were locked. And what time was it five thirty. Am morning of the murder was actually an altercation between the two of them. So you have a reason why she would remember him as opposed to any other cups customer. They may just happened in the store if that attendant was right. Investigators may have undercut Jason's alibi dill. It wasn't enough so they plotted ahead. Painstaking work took time and then years after the murder they finally got a match for that partial footprint the State Bureau Investigation and the the FBI were able to eventually identify that shoe as a hush puppy or bill and it was a size twelve which is the same size that he wore throughout the investigation. Jason steadfastly maintained his silence and rather than face a legal battle where he'd be asked some tough questions spivey said he even gave. Michelle's family custody of his daughter. Everyone that we spoke with all of them talked about how much he loved cassidy. And what a great dad. He was just turn over primary custody. That was that was very surprising. Investigators had heard enough. They believed they had a case. Circumstantial and three years after Michelle. Young's body was found on the bedroom floor. Jason Young was charged with her murder. "Mother called and says Michelle's dead that possible. A young mother found brutally murdered. Her little girl left to wonder in her mother's blood. Police had a suspect. And they say he had a motive. We had an intimate relationship having books. But could they prove he was the killer? It was circumstantial case except for that witness. The girl who left those footprints. You'll never know what CASS. She saw what she did see. Maybe she couldn't tell detectives who the killer was but maybe she didn't have to the fact that cassidy was spared. Would that mean anything to jury. The person that killed the mother cared about cassidy and now a stunning twist in the case. I'm Lester Holt. And this is dateline. Here's Keith Morrison with silent witness think I'll pause for Sega second ahead take a deep breath and just the reality of what was going on in those are the footprints will not forget them. They were tiny and they were bloody. I had to get my composure to finish searching his house to make sure there was nobody else in the house. It was the third of two thousand six early afternoon. Deputy scholar but the wake county sheriff's department had been dispatched to a quiet and leafy neighborhood called enchanted oaks the outskirts of Raleigh North Carolina. She just discovered on the floor of the master bedroom savagely beaten body of her elder sister. Twenty nine year old. Michelle young the woman who in-depth was about to be famous opera. You need to come back breathing. Project own actually spoke meredith cradling. Her two and a half year old niece cassidy who had crawled out from under the bed. Clothes on her parents bed just feet from where her mother lay cassidy's voice chattering to her aunt. Caught the recorded call had cassidy witnessed the murder awakened alone. Define this you know just picture a small child walking around in blood and tracking it across the Hallway of rented bathroom now Wake County. Investigators were descending on the House and having secured the crime scene herbs job was done but on his way out he saw cassidy again. She was still in her pink pajamas. Still Emeritus Karmeh's. He asked Meredith a question. I looked over to child. I didn't see any blood so I asked her. Did you clean? The child and her response was no thought. It was kind of odd because I expected her to say yes. I guess somebody did. Yeah somebody did but who? Was it. The same person who murdered the little girl's mother on this November Day. All they had were questioned sergeant. Richard Spivey of the Wake County Sheriff's Office probably knows the case better than anyone. I mean. This was a brutal vicious beating. There was a lot of time and energy invested into this assault by you. Seeing a lot of time and energy I think the medical examiner told us there was over thirty blows With some sort of a blunt object. So detective started investigating the victim. Everyone else around her. Michelle young was born and raised on Long Island New York to smiling all the time in the life of the party. Gross maneuver from childhood. She didn't like being the center of attention but she liked creating a great atmosphere for everyone to have a good time. Michelle was a cheerleader in high school and a straight a student. Jennifer powers felt drawn under. She had this kind of bookworm. Signed her where she was very studious and goal oriented. She was also just a great person to be around a fun. Happy Spirit and someone that I want to spend a lot of time with. Lots of people did and when she chose a college far from home. North Carolina's state. She soon surrounded again by admiring group of women friends. Best Friends Buddies. Fiona childs was her sorority. Big Sister One picture and it's like it just came out beautiful and we liked it because we thought we kind of looked like Charlie's angels posed without intentionally that it was sometime in two thousand one when friends started hearing about Michelle's new guy. A fellow student named Jason Young heard how he'd grown up in the North Carolina Mountains. How you love to camp how? He was a life of tailgate parties. Michelle fell hard and fast. They seemed like a good couple. He was different from other men that she dated in the past. He wasn't as serious about career as she was. He was a little bit less sophisticated than Michelle was but she seemed to be very happy with him. Michelle and Jason Married and Tober two thousand and three the day after the wedding. They share their big secret. Michelle was pregnant. Daughter Cassidy was born early the next year speaking and when she came along it was love at first sight. You know the youngs moved into the big fine house on virtually in two thousand five. Both of them worked. He is salesman G. Financial specialist in the summer of two thousand six. Michelle got pregnant again. They get the news to themselves but it was clear. Something good was happening. The comment he said to me was he's excited to have another baby not implying that she was pregnant at that. Who's excited at the prospect of it? Just a few months later. Michelle was Dan. Jason was one hundred seventy miles away in Virginia on a business trip the night of the murder. He heard the news the next afternoon and returned to rally. Statia Grossman got word from her mother. My mother called him says Michelle's dead and I said Michelle Lou some celebrity by go. What are you talking about like? What do you mean like? That's how's that possible. What happened the very questions that Wake County? Investigators were asking.

"True Crime Brewery contains disturbing content related to real life crimes. Medical Information is opinion based on facts of a crime and should not be interpreted as medical advice or treatment listener discretion is advised welcome to true crime Murray. I'm Jill and under and today we're talking about. The murder of Michelle Young Michelle Michelle Jason Young lived in a suburb outside of Raleigh North Carolina. They had a two year old daughter named Cassidy and Michelle was five months pregnant with their second child. Now by all accounts theirs was not a very happy marriage. Jason had several affairs and he spent a lot of time on the road for business on the morning of November third two thousand six Jason was out of town he had checked into a Hampton Inn in Huntsville Virginia Kenya one hundred and seventy miles from rally the night before at nine that morning he left a voicemail for Michelle's younger sister Meredith Fisher asking her to stop by his house and retrieved some papers for him. When Meredith arrived at the home she found Michelle brutally murdered in the master bedroom? Little Cassidy was there and she had been left unharmed now. It didn't take long for Jason to become the primary suspect in his wife's murder. Investigators instigators were able to poke holes in his alibi and put together a strong circumstantial case so join us at the quiet and today for his alibi the murder of Michelle Young this is a tragic story of a young. I'm pregnant mother who was actually beaten to death in her own home and her husband Jason would end up getting two trials but not everyone would be satisfied with the outcome now. What kind of a beer do we have today? I actually have a beer out of Raleigh. It's called Pie time brewed by Beryl culture brewing and blending when of your favorites. It's a wild male. This is the beer I'm excited to try because they haven't had it before. Nope it's a pretty nice we're very pretty beard so Magenta colour kind of purplish red little tiny thin head but a bit of lace then we get into the good stuff cherry raspberry jam coconut in the aroma similar to the taste cherry sour cherry coconut. I also got some Graham crackers in the taste. Wow that's interesting so it's Kinda like sitting down and eating your piece of Pie. Yeah I can see the Graham cracker yeah yum too nice sweet crispier very good all right well. Let's not hesitate. Let's open it right up desserts on okay. Let's go down to the quay and end in. Have some Pie your group down. There is happy to see us again. We went missing for a week or so. We did travel back to Maine saw some old friends. You got some golfing done but you know true. Crime Brewery never really left my mind cause. We're still working on the website and we started working on this case which actually I'm glad we had a week off. 'cause there was a lot of research to be done on. This certainly was yeah although it was interesting so it wasn't bad to do no no okay. Why don't you start us out and talk about the case okay? Allen and Linda Fischer had two daughters Michelle Yeoh this was born in nineteen seventy seven and meredith was born in nineteen eighty lived a comfortable middle class. Life Michelle is a nurturing child. She liked playing mother and teacher caring for her cabbage. Patch kids dolls she excelled in academics and as one of the more popular the kids in school both she and Meredith through cheerleaders from an early age and their mother coached them at Sayreville junior high but the Fisher family had their problems by the time Michelle became a teen her parents were sleeping in separate bedrooms bedrooms and barely speaking to each other they had made the decision to stay together for the sake of the children but the dysfunctional relationship was obvious to most everybody sure and is it really better to stay together for the kids or is it better to break up. I mean I think it's a double edged. Sword can go either way it can but I think if you can at least separate and get out of that toxic environment. That's that's benefit right and hopefully raise as the children in a cooperative way so that's the big if right yeah that doesn't happen too often so Michelle coped with attention in her home by putting Oliver Energy in the schoolwork in high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society was fluent in three languages and she co captained the cheering squad in her senior year cheerleading team when the Long Island cheerleading association's Championship by the time. I shall graduated high school she she had a full semester of college. Credits racked up from completing a P. courses now practical and organizers she was she started looking for colleges when she was in tenth grade. By the time she was a junior she had narrowed her list of four colleges colleges so her mind Linda took Michelle and Meredith on a road trip to visit them when they visited North Carolina state in Raleigh Michaud loved it she had no problem getting in there with her grades extracurricular activities and she continue to do really well in college sheared as and she made the wolfpack cheering squad as a freshman and then after she stopped cheering for the wolfpack she attended nearly every home football and basketball game all through her college years ears. She was a really loyal fan used truck. The cheerleading cushion wanted to concentrate on her studies taking too much time sure it does take a lot of time I mean it's just like a sport any other sport right but with money that Linda her mother had obtained when she divorced Michelle's father Alan. Linda bought a Condo just a few minutes away from the North Carolina State campus and Michelle was lucky because she was able to live there with her friends and her sorority sisters and chill she went on and earned her masters degree in accounting and that was in the year two thousand knows it just me or do you think it's a little weird. The MOM had to buy a condo right there so she could live there well weird. I don't know I mean we're going to find out as we talk about this that they had a very close relationship. Whether you think it's weird or not is a matter of opinion. I guessed but I do think if apparent Viseu Condo when you're in college that's pretty awesome. I guess Awesomeness winward for it. Well I mean it's lucky you don't have to live in a dorm. You don't have to pay your own rent hood as lucky I guess you could look at it. His <hes> also earning some income. Obviously they must've charge rent to the other girls that were living there palpably himself and when she does sell it she probably could make some money on it right so could be an investment could be that's true because you know paying for dorm isn't cheap either Norton. Some Michelle began her accounting career at a firm in downtown rally to that point in life Michelle had succeeded just about everything she tried the only real a sore spot in her life seemed to be relationship with her dad. After Allen and Linda divorced she and her dad headed decent relationship but that changed really quickly after he married his second wife and Michelle and the second wife if did not get along Michelle call her the evil step monster and her name was June and she didn't like Michelle in got to the point where she wouldn't even let Michelle visit her father in their New Jersey Hall so I don't know what all that's <music> out that seems super. Dysfunctional does not a real toxic environment holy cow well. I just wonder why her father would allow that. That's just not cool. I mean one thing we know when you marry someone in they have children. You have to accept their children as your own whether you like it or not and you don't do shit like that no even if kid causing the evil step monster it's up to June to allow her to visit sure and up to your dad yeah so to Michelle you know it seemed like her father chose his new wife over her and I can see why certainly would and her father and her became estranged so is in February of two thousand one when Michelle celebrated her twenty fourth birthday she was with friends at the Poorhouse Peo- you are a downtown rally pup Jason Young was at the bar and he was hanging out with some of his old college friends he accidentally knocked over Michelle's glass of wine and offered to buy her another glass and that's when they began to chat they were both recent North Carolina state graduates and they were both big wolf pack fans now at the time time Jason was living with his mother and stepfather in Bavard while working as a salesman for black and decker and before long he was making weekend trips to rally to spend time with Michelle so they got pretty serious pretty quickly. They did not a whirlwind courtship but it moves pretty fast it said and they're very different right. Is there like opposite people. Absolutely I guess they had the college sports in common but she associate area since so accomplished in he was kind of <hes> I don't know is a jerk too strong of a word well. Maybe he was Kinda flighty. Would you say lady petuous head of like a frat boy type mentality yeah now. That's that's a great description that gives you a good idea yeah so jason of decided he wanted to move back to Raleigh to be closer to the show so he rented a townhouse with his friend Ryan shod and got a job as a pharmaceutical sales representative with Panamerican lands the shows attracted to Jason's unpredictability and his practical jokes and probably his bad boy image did attractor Russell which I can see because he wasn't like some kind of slacker he had a decent job so I guess that would offset the whole breadth boy thing and she probably thought you know he's young. He's going to settle down more sure. He's responsible symbol enough to get this job she sending she'll change him. Yeah well. A lot of girls think that so Jason's mom pat young really liked Michelle right from the beginning because they both like to Cook Cook and they would share recipes and do stuff together so that was fine. Things weren't as great on the other side though since she was a little girl Michelle had planned a long engagement and a big wedding but in the summer of two thousand three she found out she was pregnant. She and Jason were living together but they hadn't made any marriage plans and not relieve in talked about it. Michelle was uncertain about how Jason would react to this news they had been together for two years but she knew that he loved his freedom and he was in no hurry to have kids and settle down so not surprisingly his first reaction was shot and he wasn't really happy he told Michelle wasn't ready for marriage or for fatherhood but somehow over the next couple of weeks. They did decide to get married so we don't know if she convinced him or if he reconsidered. We don't really know what the influences were there. Although it's implied that maybe she kinda talked him into it back because she did want to have this child and get married her absolutely he thinks are doing her much. Doubt the there is some pressure exerted right so it's more about pressure than love which is not a good start. It's not a good story so so not only was Michelle unmarried pregnant but she also had no health insurance so one practical thing was that if she jason married his policy would cover the birth of their child. It's no small inducement. I don't know if you get married over that. Though no I mean I think it's part of the puzzle here well. I mean they're probably thinking where together anyway so in when you're that early on you don't really know what it entails to the apparent. No you don't know so in August two two thousand three. Jason and Michelle were married at the Wake County Public Safety Center in downtown Raleigh. Linda was the only family member in attendance. Though the Aug ceremony served as the official wedding Michelle still planned the big wedding she had always wanted and that event happened on Friday October tenth. Listen a couple.

"They're not going to be as bad as some people. Might be thinking. But I got them as at four and twelve they still got Gerald McCoy on, the defensive side of the ball to oh yeah they're going to be really. Good because of him Joe George why do you have Tampa. Bay in last place because I think they really sucked Jameson Winston for lotteries and I think he's a back Quarterback. I think, he's very over is below, that is numbers what his numbers would say otherwise yeah but I don't think numbers mean everything you talked. About Blake Bortles earlier in, the show is fantasy football year. We went off he great numbers I. Think the buccaneers go to and fourteen this, year fourteen I'm also playing the law. Averages that no one has a? Team, below four wins yet divisions two. And seventeen they'll be right. There in the mix for Oliver like the old suck. For luck thing we need to figure one out for. At Oliver Oliver number one, next year two thousand nine thousand nine hundred. F. l. draft so we are all unanimous, sonar NFC south predictions the saints one Atlanta to Carolina three Tampa Bay four, I had the falcons though in the playoffs at. The two spot in the NFC south neither one of you did so, you raved, about the NFC south Josh don't think I didn't. Notice, this, you raved about the NFC south being the best? Division NFC what was it the NFC south yes I. Did and you have to teams No I was. I think it was more about the NFC. East in the NFC south I don't need you second guessing my opinions that. Is for the bullies and the bullies alone who's who's your MVP Miami peas Alvin. Kamara, because, the saints are gonna be the best team in this. Division Joe George kind of touched on this too drew. Brees while he's. Still I'm higher. On drew Brees Joe Georgia's this is a team that has. Started to go more to the running attack which is really Sean Payton style like this aerial, attack of the. New Orleans Saints that Sean Payton has had is because drew Brees been drew Brees but. As jubilees gets a little bit older in his career they're going. To spend, more of that attention on the running game and. Defense Alvin Kamara was outstanding last, year, as a, rookie Mark, Ingram has Joe Georgia, Lou has the suspension. Some more opportunities for Alvin Kamara Alvin Kamara in his rookie year was everything that they. Wanted Reggie Bush to be. Like really good on the ground really good. Out of the backfield he had. Eighty catches last season I love Alvin Kamara he's my MVP. Hoosiers I'm going? To start looking? At, your previews. Just so I can say Say something different from. Now on about everything. Because I chose Alvin. Kamara and the only thing I'm going to say about him is Ditto I don't. Know there's nothing, I can't add anything else that I. I had the guys. Out there had Julio Jones had Gerald McCoy but main, whatever like Julio Jones I think is going to be great he's gonna. Not great he's going to be better than he was last year They have a few more weapons. That are going to. Open things up for him but Alba Kamara is. Going to be a beast he's going to be absolutely ridiculous in that division I'm convinced that whenever I give my argument you. Just like you know what that's, that's a good idea I'm going to. Go, with. That's not what. Happens I. Want to do the exact opposite of that that's why I'm actually going to start looking at your previews, so I can. Just choose everything, the opposite of what you choose so. You're saying you're not. Gonna be authentic and gino's our listeners authentic oh okay Okay. If I if I. If I'm authentic and genuine you make it seem. Like I'm not authentic and genuine and then if I decide to try to change it up to make it seem like I'm. Off etiquette genuine you say I'm, not a genuine the how do I. Win, this Air on the side of always, being, authentic and, genuine maybe she started, going, I from time to time You know what I you and I aren't friends for the. Two seconds you, should petition to. Go first every now and then that. Way it looks like you're going I. Joke your choose your? VP, I'm gonna go with. A surprise here so I'm. Not big on drew Brees but you're using, gerbil no I'm just Cameron Meredith the newcomer for the saints I. Think Michael Thomas is such a. Stud but I think camera. Really bring something special to that offense in I know why people don't watch didn't watch. Him in Chicago I think he's. A, really good football player. That can go up and get the ball he's gonna have high touchdown count yeah in, the red zone so, I think Cam Meredith could, be kind of the guy this year in New Orleans Joe George who who who did Cam Meredith Fisher. The bears homework bears a Homer button more, than a. Hot take button because that's the Homer button there I got a good Ed Oliver thing hammered. Meredith MVP I'm telling. You these give be good Detached twenty bucks this. Is going to be his this, is going to, be his audible at the at the end, of preseason this is going, to be, Joe Georgia's, audible audibles. More for the team yeah. It's more for the team we can't audible MVP's I don't I don't. Think there's if you want to spend your Audubon the MVP can but I'm good I'm good. Do we know, how our grading. These by the way like how do. We win are we looking at division winners we're at win? Loss, records for all team. I mean right now we've. Agreed on pretty much everything so like right, now we would all tie because we've all almost agreed on every. The loser needs to buy winter. Dinner but you also like. How are we going to do or you just going to do it based on the. Overall win loss record and how. Close, we are to it. Yeah like each each win and loss you get correctly you get one point yeah division, winter you get another, point get another point I'll, figure it Joe Georgia come up with the the the scoring system but.

"Got. I had a blanket. There had tissues. I've tried to get him to to drink or eat something, you know, get something because I thought he's, he's going to go into shock. I've got to do something. And then about. Gosh, probably three fifteen or so. Jerrell Bayer, Charlie, Mia. An advance three fifteen. He he made a phone call to Meredith and she was telling him assume that she was telling him because I heard him say homicide, no, no, no. And at this time I friend Bev and. And her daughter came in and then a little just a few minutes later, my friend Jimmy Arnett came in and and so Jason having difficulty talk and he was just sobbing. And he, I heard him tell Bev, you know, not only lost my wife, but I've lost my son. She said, Jason's sister and husband came over and they decided to get in Jason's vehicle and drive to rally. They received numerous calls while on their drive. And Pat said that she was surprised when a detective called and told her that Jason quote better be with them. She said they had all been so sad. More surprised at the detective would say that at some point when they were close to marriage, this house, they got a call from Jason's friend Ryan who said they shouldn't go to Merida's house until Jason got a lawyer. So they stopped at an Applebee's and tried contacting attorneys, Ryan then called again and said that they would work on getting an attorney for him, but to go to Meredith. So Jason could. Least be with Cassidy. He told them not to talk to the police. So they continued on. When they got to merit. As Pat said, Jason immediately asked Meredith about Cassidy and then went to the budget room where she was asleep on the bed. She said when detectives called Jason told them that he would talk to them when his attorney was present. He then handed the phone over to her and told her that they weren't listening to him. So she said she repeated to the detective. Jason would talk to them when he had an attorney and to have a good evening. She then hung up the phone on the detective. She said she and her daughter and son-in-law went to the sheriff's department around midnight. Jason was still at Meredith house with Cassidy. She said, she answered all their questions. After the murder. Jason Cassidy lived with his sister, Heather and her husband at first, but then went to live with Pat and her husband. She said he never went back to the home. He shared with Michelle. Pat then addressed the custody of Cassidy issue. She said that during the first year after Michelle's murder, Linda and Meredith Fisher were allowed to see Cassidy and they did. But then pets said that she decided to prevent them from seeing her because the last time they were with her, Linda became hysterical and was crying. She and Jason didn't think that Cassidy should be exposed shawl the crying and such. They wanted to normal life for her. She said, news articles started coming out alleging that Jason wasn't letting the Fisher see Cassidy and that it wasn't true. She was there when Jason was arrested in December two thousand nine. Jason's Aviv. A vehicle was not running properly. So we took it to. A little repair shop on the on the Roz Manhattan and we went into tail. The attendant, what needed to be done. And gave him the keys and all that. And we came back out and I had my vehicle there too because I had followed him over and. As he acid Jason, I handed him the keys said, do you want to drive? Because if we were to have in together preferred that he'd rather than me and he said, yes, and he walked around the side of the car, and I had no idea. Police officers were anywhere, and suddenly he was surrounded and the pickup immediately and walked him up to a car. And I spoke to couple of the officers, and and then I said. Can I hug him? Cannot cannot tell him. Goodbye can hugging and. They'll put the door and and and he had his cuffs back here. And so I reached down to hug him and. And then later Jason wrote to me and he said. Okay, that's the last time you ever hugged and its a lifetime. I ever hugged. Yes, he has an it has been. Question? Yes. Pat was asked if she had heard Michelle money's testimony, and she said, yes, she said she didn't know about Michelle money or the incident with caroll-ann. I do not approve. She said, she said Jason was raised better than that and that she was disappointed. That's what they're going to try and convince you of. The police say road in Jason as a suspect right away. Even Meredith knew that they were looking at him and therefore Jason was advised to not speak with them until he had an attorney. And in addition to the police wanting to talk to him, the press descended on him to this was a big story in November two thousand six Klinka. She said Michelle, graduated in nineteen ninety nine with an undergraduate degree in accounting. She then went for her master's degree at NC state and graduated the following year. Also an accounting. She then worked at several accounting firms before alternately ending up at progress energy where she worked until the time she died. Meredith told the court that she and Michelle were close growing up, but became increasingly closer as they got older. She said she helped Michelle Jason plan their wedding in downtown Raleigh in October two thousand three. It was quick. Michelle had found out that she was. Agnan and was about four months along when they tied the knot. She said Michelle had always wanted a formal church wedding. So she helped planet. Meredith moved to North Carolina from New York. When Cassidy was born and then never left. She became her nanny and lived with Michelle Jason for the first three months. She'd been considering going back to school for her master's in social work and was looking at schools in the area she committed to being her nanny for a year, and then they would all reevaluate. Michelle was working at progress energy. And Jason was in pharmaceutical sales. Meredith told the court that Michelle had lost a baby earlier in two thousand six. But that in the beginning of July, Michelle told her she was pregnant again, Michelle Astor. If she could be the nanny for the new baby and although Meredith didn't exactly rule it out, she told her not to depend on her because she was trying to pursue her masters, their mother. Linda Fisher had retired that June and was planning on purchasing a beach house in the Outer Banks, Michelle wanted, Linda either come back and forth, or perhaps even live with them. Merida's said she was well aware of the tensions between Jason and Michelle. She describes it as a lot of petty back and forth, bickering and silent treatment. But there were some serious issues to one day. Michelle asked her if she would mind playing the role of a counselor to them, they had been to marriage counseling, but Jason didn't feel comfortable speaking to that counselor. Meredith was going for her master's in social work specializing in marriage counseling. So Michelle thought it would be good practice and Meredith agreed. Michelle's main issues for that. She wanted Jason to be more responsible, help out around the house and help her more. And Jason's main concern was lack of sex. And he was upset that after an argument, Michelle would always call her mom or Meredith, whatever the argument was about Merida's said it would always cycle back to those issues. Meredith was asked if she ever heard that mentioned divorce to which she said, yes. The first time divorce was brought up was in conversation between Meredith and Jason. He and Michelle had gotten into an argument. And he said, sometimes I just wanna throw in the flag and forget it, divorce her. But then he said that it would be even more difficult to be divorced from her. Meredith said that Jason and Michelle used to like going the tailgates and college football games that it was a big part of their lives, but that it was also a source of friction if they couldn't get a babysitter for Cassidy, for example, Michelle couldn't go, but Jason always would. She said, Michelle, never got kick back and relax and enjoy a day with friends tailgating. She was always the one responsible for Cassidy and Jason's relationship with Meredith Michelle's mom was tense at best. On Friday. I've Tober twenty-seven less than a week before Machel's murder. Meredith went to Jason Michelle's house for a counseling session. And she said she talked to them for about four to five hours. It was approaching the holidays and Jason didn't want Linda staying there for an extended period of time. Michelle felt like a weakened wasn't long enough, especially over the holidays. "With the others who were there. But even when Jason retained an attorney, a few days later, he still wasn't interested in speaking with detectives through a court order detectives were able to collect DNA saliva and hair samples from him as well as take photographs of his body, but they would need to get search warrants to find out anything else since they couldn't talk to Jason about where exactly he was that night investigators looked into his credit card statements to try and put together his complete alibi. And on the surface, it seemed as though his alibi with checkout, he really was out of town on the night of November second. But was it possible he still could have had something to do with Michelle's death. One of the first things investigators did was to travel to the Hampton inn hills fill Virginia where Jason's credit card statement told them he stayed that night. According to their line. So far they learned that Jason had leftist house for his business trip around seven thirty pm on Thursday, November second. At seven, thirty two pm. He stopped and purchased gas at a local gas station at nine thirty pm. He stopped to eat at a Cracker Barrel and around ten fifty pm. He checked into the Hampton inn in hills, Ville Virginia. Interestingly enough, when investigators got to the Hampton inn, they learned that in the early morning hours of November. Third, a hotel employee had noticed that someone had tampered with surveillance camera in one of the stairwells and at one of their emergency exit doors had been propped open with a rock. Investigators checked the hotels Valence cameras, and we're able to identify Jason on camera, checking in at the front desk around ten fifty pm that night. Four minutes later, his key card was used to enter his room then about an hour later at eleven fifty. Eight PM Jason can again be seen at the front desk picking up what looks like a newspaper a minute later. He's walking down a hallway. Could Jason have checked into the hotel, and then snuck out made the one hundred sixty nine mile drive back home to murder, Michelle, and then have driven back the more they dug into the Young's marriage. The more Jason really did seem like the ideal suspect not only had he and Michelle notably arguing a lot, but they uncovered infidelity to Jason had been having an affair with one of his wife's close friends who lived in Florida. And if that wasn't enough, they discovered that Michelle didn't fact have life insurance policy worth four million dollars with Jason as the sole beneficiary. Meanwhile, the case was garnering national attention in January two thousand seven people magazine featured it as their cover story titled murder a quiet street and included a four page spread with an interview with Linda Fisher shells mom pleading for help in solving her daughter's murder. Search warrants were released to the public, and it was revealed that Michelle's wedding rings were missing, and that investigators suspected the killer had taken them off her hand. But despite all the publicity, the murder continued to go unsolved. In July two thousand seven. The Young's home went up for sale and Jason Cassidy, his young daughter with Michelle moved to provide North Carolina to be closer to his side of the family. And while Michelle's family were still able to visit with Cassidy, at least at first their visits became more and more limited. And so with Michelle's death being unsolved and with their frustrations of not being able to see Cassidy, Michelle's mom decided to take matters into her own hands. An October two thousand eight, two years after Michelle was murdered. Linda Fisher filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jason. The lawsuit alleged that in the early morning hours of November. Third, she thousand six, Jason young, brutally murdered, Michelle young at their residence. The lawsuits stated that the plaintiff, Linda Fisher was also seeking a determination by the court that Jason young willfully and unlawfully killed Michelle or was an accessory before the fact in her murder quote, whether Jason young is determined to be Michelle young slayer through this action or through the criminal process, plaintiff seeks judgment declaring that Jason young is barred from collecting any life insurance benefits. Linda was also asking for compensation for the horror pain and suffering of Michelle young caused by the defendants. Fatal assaults reasonable funeral expenses for Michelle, the present monetary value. Cassidy of her mother's reasonably expected net income, the present monetary value to Cassidy for the loss of her mother's reasonably expected services protection care and assistance. The present monetary value to Cassidy of her mother's reasonably expected society, companionship, comfort guidance, kindly offices, and advice, and punitive damages for the murder of Michelle. Jason had thirty days to respond to the suit, but much to everyone surprise he remained silence and as a result Superior Court, Judge Donald Stevens. Granted a default judgment. He ruled up because he didn't respond Jason conceded the civil judgment that holds them liable for Michelle staff. Jason was officially declared as Michelle's slayer, which under North Carolina law meant that he could not collect Michelle's life insurance benefits. Michelle's family was also awarded fifteen point, five million dollars also. Meanwhile, Linda and Meredith Fisher, both filed an additional lawsuit. This one for custody of Cassidy alleging that Jason had not provided a stable living environment for her since Michelle's death, and that he was relying primarily on family members to care for her. And again, much to everyone's surprise. Jason agreed to turn over primary custody to Meredith with Jason, having visitation every other weakened certain times during the holidays, birthdays and summers until finally in December two thousand nine, Jason was arrested and charged with Michelle's murder. It was clear that investigators felt like they had a solid case against him, but would they be able to get a conviction? Because what many people were thinking as this case was entering the trial phase, was that either Jason nearly committed the perfect murder or investigators had the wrong man.
