"About how your first trip into Vegas was with Steve Allen at Thesame Hair Hotel in the Congo room. Absolutely. Yeah. And so, obviously did you fall in love with the community when you because once it gets into your bloodstream Did you see Vegas is somewhere you wanted to go. It Wass one of continues to be one of the most exciting memories for me ever. Uh, just come in and see the white and to be appearing. I was just on the stage is with so many that have been graced by so many I said, t my wife at the time, Sherry said. You know what? I've got to find a way to get back. Got Ella. It's really close. I have to find a way to do this on my next trip out here, you know. Ah, George Hamilton had a little cigar bar in Beverly Hills. Yes, called Hamilton and I would go. A group of us would go from the Peninsula Hotel after we were done on we go See Jack Sheldon play at nationals. Trumpet Player B on the Merv Griffin Show Ryan later on Merv Griffin right on, And so I got to know George on when he was opening his cigar bar here in New York, New York, he asked, We'd open it. So that was my second for into Las Vegas, which was for two week stint. He put me up in a hotel in New York, New York on guided his his his lounge, and that was a lot of fun. But still I wasn't here. Permanently. Uh, on that story comes a little bit later on. So now when I first had seen you perform, But when I really got to know you more was when I went to the peninsula and saw you walked in with Mr Sinatra. It was late night, Julie and I think I forgot who the fourth guy Wass might have. Antonio or some Elliot Weisman. Was it. Elliot Elliot Elliot voice. Tonio are Italian, so we go in there? You're playing piano and and they're about to close on DH manager. Whoever was saying Well, and Frank was having none of it. You're not going anywhere. You're not because he enjoyed the music he always loved. Somebody who was interpreting the standards and maybe even interpreting them differently than he would, because that reminded him of how great music was that people who had the opportunity to I think that's probably how they found me because I would take a standard and try toe. Develop a different style with it, So we obviously saw that and you know that's the first time I really got to really listen and visit. So now you what happens in hell you're at the peninsula for how many years 7 7.5 years. It's agood run to cook. Great. Ron and I met so many people, the celebrities who was a great hang out, everybody and I've got stories that could fill. I mean, of all the people that I had met, but one of the other instrumental people in my life. And this really that up Until that point, I was singing and I was enjoying it, and I was doing it and I was working with Steve Allen. Things were wonderful, but it wasn't yet. I don't know. Howto wasn't soul. It wasn't fulfilling it. I was doing it. But there was somewhere else to go. You weren't sure that it wasn't sure On Then one night somebody asks me to sing just a request. I left my heart in San Francisco on I sing. I sing this song. I've never sang it before. I got out the fake book and I sang it on on the way home that night. Something hit me and I I actually cried driving on the way home. It was for emotional for me because there was something about the way that song was constructed in the way came out of my mouth that affected me for a reason. Very oddly, a couple weeks later, who walks into the hotel No mayor of San Francisco, Willie.

What's his name Archie? Yep. Yep. Archie archie? Name king Archie now. He'll never be king. He doesn't even have title seven zero before him, right? Yeah. Okay. They chose to which is kind of interesting. They chose to not give him a title. So. Yeah, he'd be accommodate. That's it right normal. Of course. So this is the DJ program where we invent new stories. Sound right? We invent new radio came. Well, we once in a while. And better story, I'll speak for myself. Anyway. Take liberties with certain bits of information, I work with all different kinds of projects in people here in this program and all my life, and I find it interesting to deal with everybody getting things done is a considerable challenge. Sometimes, but it's fun. I really find it. Good to have my brain wrapped around all the things that I'm doing and then sort of the end of the day. I step back and think and go go been accomplished today, especially this time of year when there's so much activity on the farm and the radio businesses buzzing kind of cool so now with clarity Jennifer horn starts out in this hour with an important bit of news. And also, we lighten things a little bit and some good entertainment news. How about yes, let's do that. All right. Well, Pat, say Jack is making news. He has made game show history. His wheel of fortune career is thirty five years and counting thirty five years. One hundred ninety eight days, and he was just awarded the Guinness world record for the longest career as a game show host of the same show that happened on Wednesday of this week. He said, thank you very much. He received the honour before he turned to his co host Vanna white and said, I couldn't have done it without you Vanna, white sixty two Pat stay Jack is seventy two. They look fantastic. They seventy two no way is. Oh my gosh. He looks amazing. Great. He said, it's a great honor. We'll try to do some more. All of the shows. Whatever he looks great. And he said we'll get another line to. He's a very nice, man. He started wheel of fortune in one thousand nine hundred he started the he made his debut on wheel of fortune in one thousand nine hundred one took over from Chuck Woolery. Who is the original host of the show now has the longest career as a game show host on the same show. So congratulations to Pat, save a weather man in Washington with Merv Griffin. Saw him radio guy. Right. Who's a radio guys? Well, he owns a radio station in his hometown of Annapolis still, and he had a couple of I think he's still has a couple of other stations here and there, but he started the radio, then he did the weather. He did he started out a lot like, frankly, Willard, Scott, the two of them were contemporaries, but same age and they follow each other working through working up through the ranks. And anyway, Merv Griffin saw him and he was not thrilled with Woolery. For whatever. The reason is host. Remember, the Merv Griffin was created jeopardy and wheel of fortune. They came as a package when they first got started in the seventies. It was Alex. Was not the first host of jeopardy. It was. And I always forget his name. And I worked with a guy came from Saint Louis. I can art Fleming. I always vote for I think about his name. So art Fleming started as the host of jeopardy and Woolery started is the host of wheel of fortune and Merv didn't really like either one of them after they'd been in the seat for awhile. And he was determined to find people that would relate to the audience better. Woolery is a was a professional game show host and he related to the player to the game. But he never really related to. He's very successful game show, but he didn't relate well to the audience. Not like say check say Jack became sort of an. Every man trebek's just had the looks you had the smarts. He had the appropriate. He was for back of all of the hosts that existed in that John had one of the best senses. I say had he's still at it. Even though he's suffering from cancer. And he's old. I think he's seventy eight one of the best senses of timing. And he knew how to you know, it was kind of like Ed McMahon with Johnny. He knew how to say something and look at Johnny for the right response. And that's that's it's something that you don't learn you either have it or you don't have it some people on the radio the same thing. It just is something that you have. And so the skill served both of them well to the point where Merv pretty much gave them a lifetime contract. And so say Jag. I'll betcha that say jackal keep doing this for another ten years and travek will tape it all in. Don't take short amount of time. As a year. They do a five day. He's got to be making good money too. Because it's been syndicated forever. Eighteen million a year plus while their other gig. You know? I mean, whatever stuff they do, but it's a fabulous life, and to think that I could have gone down that road, not necessarily the think I could have been that successful. But I get an offer to do a game show number of years ago. And I didn't take it because I didn't want to be off the farm in the summertime and most of these shows they tape in the spring and the summer to get him out when they're when the studios are. That's another thing that Merv Griffin verve Griffin. And dick log I'm telling you inside stories now, but it's maybe interesting to some folks Merv Griffin and dick Clark were masters of using studios when nobody else use them. So they could get him cheap. Like dick Clark would record. Remember when he and Ed did what does that? What was that show? People are not people are talking but people who come on. Don't leave me hanging here on this idea. What you're talking about? I can't help. This show dick Clark and Ed McMahon did together of people doing crazy stuff food. I can't remember them. Anyway, do the darnedest things. Home videos. No that's still on. No. There was another show that they did. And what dick would do is hire a studio he had that show is on for four years, and they only had one live show in front of an audience. They use that same audience for every single show different shots of the audience. They spent they put the cameras on the audience, and they just moved him around. And that was the only audience they ever had for the show Ed in dick would go into the studio at one two o'clock in the morning and tape a whole season of these got somebody carry will you Google me trying to go up, but I don't have a ton of information to go on. Just practical jokes. Okay. Yup. Yup. Yup. Thank you. And so they would have we spent all this time. And literally, no one cares about right? I don't know. That's true. I think some people that's that's age discrimination. I think it'd probably a lot of people that would remember that anyway. But now that you've put me down move onto something else. Now, arguing here no grievances here. And beside the fact, what will it matter in twenty years, that's sort of a test, by the way that I would like to offer for almost every controversy in our lives personally and publicly like, for example, what's going on with Trump and the Democrats now in twenty years, no one will have even cared about this. It's look back to the stuff twenty years ago. It was thirty years. Well, it was twenty years ago, we invaded Iraq. They really care about that. Now, they only reason George Bush. Yeah. Yeah. It comes up. That's how people decide if you're progressive or not is whether or not you fought the war. That's at least what Bernie and Joe Biden are saying and every once in a while it gets thrown up. Yeah. I guess that's true. All right food for thought. As is our case here on the JV program. It's fifteen after the.

"Ought to be. It is outstanding. Five out of five Garis actually out in the American bebop and west coast, jazz, trumpeter singer and actor excellent. He was a trumpet player in the music director on the Merv Griffin show. The voice heard on several episodes of the educational affirmation music television series, schoolhouse, rock excellent. Learning stuff. Saturday Night Live Ryan, and I usually disagree on whether or not we thought it was a good show or not what did you think of the show this weekend thought it was above average? I did too. I thought it was very good. I feel like kit Harrington was the host Sarah Barillas was the musical guest. She was amazing but kit Harrington he was really committed. Like, you know, sometimes you have guests guest host on there, and they're reading the cue cards. Yeah. He memorized all his lines. He knew what he was doing. He knew where he was supposed to be when he had to be there. He was excellent fun seen him in a comedic role. I mean, he's so serious on game of thrones. You don't really see him in any other role. So it was fun and he transformed himself. It was amazing. I just thought that this episode was pretty dang solid from all the pre produced bits to the live bits. I mean, it was really good. Here's a little bit of his. Monolog with some special guests. I'm sorry. But I'm not revealing how the show ends. Well. All right. Could you just give us a?.

"So that's like the creepiest thing ever. And so so rich, it's so rich, and you could eat it straight up. If you eat a like with fruit, or if you eat it for breakfast, I like to add a little sweetener because it is a very very tart experience. But you could use it wherever you'd use like mayo or you could make salad dressings out of it. You could mix it in guacamole when you're making that or with salsa as a creamy dip much you can do with Greek yogurt. I it's my like if I'm traveling, and I can't make my omelette in the morning. You can always get container fat free Greek yogurt and some fruit and just like mix it all up. Together such a satisfying breakfast. Yeah. I do that. I go to a diner in New York. And every time I get the container. I put sweetener in it. Then I get fruit salad. I always have to order to fruit salads because they're for talent is like three pieces of and then I dip do the. Use it as like a dip. I love love. Love it, broccoli, coleslaw, an oldie, but a goody we should have that retro music playing. I've been using broccoli coleslaw. Probably since two thousand four two thousand five. Yeah. You could add an impost. Oh, it's coming. It's coming. I feel like I just like like Merv Griffin should be. I'm trying to think of like, Ed Sullivan. Somebody your hair looks redder. And you're wearing a cookie monster shirt. It's two thousand. That's so funny. So broccoli coleslaw. It's shredded broccoli carrots and cabbage. I don't know how many times I could talk about this product. But it is always in my fridge partially because I usually have a bunny living in my house, and they love it but partially because it's just amazing hot or cold. So low in calories. You can throw it in a Skillet and turn it into a pasta. Swap you can throw my next item on the list on top of it and turn it into a salad..

"A million people trying to get on. I mean, imagine the viewership base Merv Griffin was onto something that. Yeah. Now. Exactly. Exactly. Right. Amen. Amen to that. So well, thank you so much everyone for joining us. You know for those who missed the first half. I mean, you know in terms of quick recap. You went down. You know, we went down a lot of the data with respect to you know, how the averages are shaking out and really how miserable. You know? The ticker tape has been within these markets. And you know, we talked a little bit in the last segment got into China. What's real what's not real? And I I think John I think a big piece of the market, you know, going forward is going to be that dissection right between what what is a real headline. What's tangible news? What is not you know, what is maybe a false positive so to speak, right? But I'm going to say this, John, I think the key. Now, I will say this. And you know, you know, me I probably prioritized the Chinese situation ahead of the fed up until now. Now, and I'm going to say this. I think something now at this point. It does look like something's going to get done with China. Okay. Yes. Some something something. And again, I I don't necessarily know if either side as a choice whether or not whether or not they like it. I don't think at this point either side, you know, has a choice, right, especially with the way that markets have behaved. I don't think that either side has a choice, but I'm going to say this. I think the fed is now potentially more important than than China only. Because the simple fact of the matter John is we have tax book deflation across the board. Right. Yes. You know, everyone talking about inflation. Oh, this potential for stagflation. Well, let's get some of it because we have tax book deflation across the board. Right. We have stock assets coming down we've bond assets coming down we have commodity commodities that have just been. Yes, absolutely decimated. You know, it is it is just the heck's book definition of deflation, right? And very clearly the system is clamoring for dollars that aren't there. Okay. Clamoring for dollars that aren't there? And I didn't want anybody to think that. Because I happen to be the son of that. I could get away with things, and boy, he let me know right away that I I didn't did he punished you a lot when you were crazy. Yes. The double. Was arrested once for fighting with about four guys, and they put us in jail, and he came in. And he said your father's ring home your phone. Came to means. You're father didn't show up and I stayed there for four nights drunk here. Rested on top of me. I was always doing something that wasn't. First of all you have to understand that. I don't respect anyone as much as I respect him. I don't I never met a man in my life that I love more. But he was he was the kind of a man that when he came in a room all the oxygen left except for you know, whatever he breathed then. And he was he was six foot four, and he was he was a very imposing strong willed, man. And I spent most of my life. We have a saying in the south. No man is a man until his father tells me is in mind never did. Which is why I little crazy. Until I had my son had to be an adult. I want to ask you about one of your. I don't think you get for actors. Who would do what we did? Will you especially you were almost killed? Yes. In in a waterfall scene. Why don't you describe the scene which apparently none of the stunt people even wanted to do? No, they will. They would be there'd be said, you know, you're you're to praise go away. And I was crazy. But we we had a we could we could stop the water. We have a dam that we had control over and it was by scout to Lula gorge, which thank you. It actually was born near there and was named after this gorge. And it was it was about eighty five feet down. They send a dummy over. Borman looked at John woman director and rightly so said it looks like a dummy, and I said I can do that. And so they put they stopped the water. And I said give me spike in mountain climbing went out in the middle of the Reverend drove a spike, and I put a rope around it. And I said now in the water comes it'll come around me. And I'll put my hand up in weight. And that's what I'm going to let go so he can roll the cameras, and then I'll go down there. I'll hit that rock, and then all of the spin off to the left, and I'll I'll do a flip and Alan down there. And they all went right about four cameras. And I heard them letting the water though, and I I look back and coming at me was this tidal wave and away. I went and I didn't go anywhere. I told them I was going. I went wherever you go. But I the first rock I hit my tailbone crack, then I did turn flip. Which was what I said. I would do. But I didn't do it on purpose. Then I landed in what they call the hydrofoil hydrofoil. You can't swim out of it. You you have to swim to the bottom and spit you out. I had been told that and I remembered it thank God. I went to the bottom. What they don't tell you is that the spit you out like shooting a torpedo the submarine about seventy miles an hour. And I went over the falls a thirty some year old. Guy and best shape of anybody came up one hundred and fifty yards down the river, totally nude and about seventy eight years of age could hardly walk and had hit every rock. Along the way going seventy miles an hour. And they all they offered I had drown. They said there's a nude old man. This way. But we've got to concentrate on getting bird out of this whole. Well, what happens over your clothes were they shorn off just they just vanished. I mean, it was that's how fast and how strong water was. And the next day. I went to the Russia's with everybody very anxious to see my my exciting stunt, and we looked at it. And I said how's it looking like a dummy going over the falls? Did it really look like that to you not to me? It looked like a dummy, but a different kind.
