His european accent likes us from britain or somewhere he's overseas And when they say her brother is like oh is he gonna gonna talk the same you know but it sounds like he came after the fall So he being here for whatever nineteen years and like. He's been here baking cakes. Yeah because you didn't sound like oh we had to deal with the wolves and we had. It sounds almost like how american citizens sound when we talk about our government and our country where there's certain privileges we take for granted because we're part of this big evil empire and so we be talking about war. None of us had to go friday for the most part unless you unless you want to go unless you sign up to go fight it and maybe because you know a bunch of different reasons deputy. We'll do to go to college a bunch of but unless you like we live that type of exist is for the last since vietnam that we haven't had a draft so we have this idea about war that we can put it on the backburner. We don't care what it does to the people who had to fight right. We don't care what it does to the people who des bombed inside and out that type of shit and he kinda like for people like unical dave out in shape for nine years like fighting for every scrap killing people all this stuff and her brother. Don't say it's like he does like i. I left chicago. And i headed here. And this percentage making kate right because it's one of those things where you assume they're everybody's dead so at some point you go. Why am i looking for somebody. I don't even know if they're alive. Yeah not just about that but just the different existence. Yeah because it's one thing that some people are dead. I get that that can happen to anybody. You know does pack. But it's like not only that. But i've been watching cable tv. We got running. Oughta like i watched gilmore. Girls you know is quite hard quite difficult. I mean we do have netflix. But we have to use the dvd's we return them to the librarian. Trade them out very difficult to season for had a scratch on several of the cds. So on the dvd siding get to watch them all how. How's things with you though she's like i don't know i had to eat horse right. I think i killed zombie. Baby oh interesting. Gas about twenty miles north of here book. Go lucky enough to think up some people. We all wound up here pretty early on. When the milton's made this place places safe haven started with a few secure blocks with the community's been expanding his time. Since i i amongst forget what's going on outside these will and you've just been here this whole time making cakes faking it makes me happy tummy at your saturday. Now he looked like that's a no now. Yes you can't be saying the works. Yes that's on to like some like some status in your job in this place like it's very like hey hey may on the urgency shit says come on now. I'm up. I bake cakes wink wink. You could save people's on people's lives me saw so who knows like what happened to maybe something where he never told them. That's what he did right either. You know he may have done something. Something went wrong and they demoted him to abakar. Like you just never know some kind of back story but it also sounds like he didn't want people to know that sound like it didn't sound like it was a great shame that he got demoted to me. It sounded like he was. I don't know about enormous surgeon. Right and i and it's basically i got to start over and i write actually enjoy fucking baking. Desch shit is birds. Yeah like does something to the status stuff. That this i don't know i don't know i mean also i guess it would be a completely different type of work That he will be doing if he did it that way. It sound like when everything was functioning. He didn't enjoy being a doctor. She asks isn't going to be possible for us to like leave and like talk to our people and he says anything is possible. As long as you follow the rules follow rules so then deter the heating up back at the At the town center because city hall because Mercer goes to to the city hall where gene and princeton's is playing lookout is so princes.

That comes to get an ice cream for miss milton. Which i assume is decide. You know pamela milton. Who must run everything and that woman also wears glasses has dark hair and eugene says to her like you know it a rocky road. Even though he was given two scoops of some ice cream. So mike raspberry ice-cream he was like i didn't see that on the loose. Apparently the people with the good jobs get the get the ice cream the rest of the i like on nickel to get outta my face get. Somebody's playing their strawberry. Yeah so he see but she didn't really answer him and she looked a little white either standoffish or like. I'm not supposed to be talking to him. Like why are you talking to me. Like they made a big point out of them seeing each other Okay so i think that's gonna come back soon. Why i'm so this guy. This is my conspiracy theory right now. In fact remind me. Say marcus fears. He put in so that you know it's better storyteller. I don't wanna blow my conspiracy right away. okay but Yumiko goes to. i mean. I'm sorry eugene. And and and stephanie. Dan sit down or whatever a like. They're walking through town before they sit down. And you can see like oh. This is a great place like like a nosy park. Happy here it looks like a real small town in the middle of nowhere. It is just functioning like normal. People are moving around. People are eating and To go back to the cake shop it looked like like a place like. Oh y'all got real sugar in an real milk and eggs like all like this is something else versus outside of the walls when you look at the other group you like. Oh no we in two different worlds right and and you could see like security still around them stormtroopers like every other build a like. I imagine not sept- after nine eleven. How new york. They said they always had like soldiers in in the subway. And i'll just hyper share it. Kinda like that vibe of like is nice people. I live in life but some she go down. He's right here. We go come out of nowhere is going blow your ass away. So he tells stephanie they can't stay. Needs help cutting through red tape so they can return home as she's like well. You might not be able to leave us the radio tower to talk to your friends but it will take a couple of weeks to get the permits. Yeah and it was one of those things. Where when i was walking in ice cream eugene like seeing a woman baby and and i really think he mayhem. Think rose leader and her baby you know and think about people's struggling and and you know all of a sudden you see children moving around and he was like. Oh 'cause in his almost like you get so swept up into hamas happening here till i think. Cns stuff mayhem. Remember that always people out there depending on us. And i can't say yet made them feel guilty And then the other part. I kept thinking to lie is if the commonwealth has just been here this whole time and just never run into some of the same issues that group had like they've never fucked with the wolves they never fuck with the whisperers. They've never had megan and a savers. Try to come through like. That's wow the think about you know that that you know right up the road somebody could be having negative look and it also may be one thing reasons why the entry is so rigorous like why they like no good again. Do it again. Don't they decided they decided to handle that. That that Adversity a different way. And it's just so well running. Well organized as i mean you know when the other shoe drives are gonna be always is but this is designed that bad gene and i gue- lever by behind you know couple of days and air conditioning. You'd be like you know in fact of nicholas and you know what i meant. We up here and you showed this pretty girl You know it rosie. Anyway and in fact i was three men into baby you so then he He imprisons come over. Say it'll be five weeks before they can meet with stephanie's boss does he about going out or contacting their people so i bet you. They had to hand write you in the calendar. You ain't got no google calendar so they have to write to an open slot. Yes definitely like the. I think they were trying to get across like it's a lot of bureaucratic tape in a lot of like procedures and laws and rules. Which is something that. We're not used to an pack. Even though obviously the world he used that and the kind of made me think about how Michelle wrote that charter. And you know of italy. Maybe that's what our communities would have become without the whispers and say is some form of this with rules and laws. yeah yeah and also is One of those things to to wear your status matters because you didn't have to go through any of that you know we're we don't know i mean when it goes not asking for what they're asking they're asking for something. That is much more dangerous you like. Can i go see my brother. They're asking would we believe and go to outside community. After we just got here with security-wise i can see why that's a completely different ads. Yes yes yes. Yes i mean when i mean the difference was like when they do talk to her you can tell the difference in in status because when they first manage atop humanitas you he was like. Oh you out your album. Sudden he was attending. He could actually do whatever she asked right. So that's why. I say it's the difference now with the laws but in the status. So then Eugene as stephanie. If there's a non official version of our offer and she kind of likes says like looks like he's into it and then they walk off together and easy mercer looking at the whole group as they walk off. They go to town hall and a town hall eugene stephanie. They have like a whole plan. They're going to go to the radio tower. Communications room sneaking their There's a sign that says legal communications and security like in different directions so they're going towards communication And it looks like this used to be a train station but now some sort of i think they have training obviously now is probably just like the town hall person. Zeke are lookouts. yeah just hilarious. They were terrible. Look out that was like doing a really bad job. Like y'all just looking around and shit like people would know. Did you don't belong here. Yeah well. I think there's no way at the tv where like you've got gotta look like you're conspicuous. Because that's what the show is asking you to do. Obviously in real life you wouldn't want unnecessary. Stand out like that district. Yeah you know. it's you know it was kinda goofy. Yumiko talks.

The Science of Building Better Relationships With Marissa King
"Here. We go now with melissa king. Okay mercer king great to meet you. Thanks for coming on. It's how did you get interested in this subject. Social networks social chemistry so many people. I feel like you we studying. We teach what we need and that was certainly the case for me. I had spent decades of my career understanding social networks in particular trying to understand how networks related to outcomes like mental health and wellbeing. But what was interesting is when it came time for me to start my own career. I kept getting this advice saying you know you need to get out. You need to network to meet people. But based on everything. I knew from science at that actually was really misguided. Advice and for me actually created a big obstacle to authentically connecting with people in developing relationships in ways that were both meaningful to me and also consistent with what we know is helpful research and so i really wanted to write the book to help other people who have had more experience to me and just almost debilitated by the idea of feeling like they need to get out network. Which simply isn't true. So if you don't need to get out network but you do need to know people in order to get anything done. Where's the sweet spot. When we're thinking about networking we have this idea and our mind that we need to meet new people or we need a larger network and that makes perfect sense. It's one of the easiest things to see and understand his simply. How many people you know but what we know is for almost every outcome the would carry about if you think about what we know from what network research it. Networks are associated with the hood of pay promotion career success our physical wellbeing even being in poverty network is associated with a heightened risk of premature mortality or even our happiness in simply just how satisfied with life for every single one of those outcomes networks matter but it's not the size of your network or how many people you know it's actually the quality of your network in the structure of your network the configuration of your social relationships and by starting to understand what we mean by quality and what we mean by structure we can develop networks are actually much more effective than simply just meeting new

They also brought up a floating battery of cannons down the river bringing the total to several dozen really long twenty four and thirty pound cannons designed to reduce the fort to Rubble. The British Unleashed a near continuous bombardment on the fort which lasted for five days the Americans returned fire, but were vastly outgunned most of the Garrison spend days and nights hunker down right behind the fort walls. They quickly discovered that moving into the interior of the fort made them a target for the many shells that the British logged into the Sports Center or the second day of the bombardment a British shot hit a brick chimney, which collapsed onto Colonel Smith his injuries required that he be evacuated to Fort Worth leaving major Simeon thier in command. The Americans continued to resist the onslaught taking more casualties each day on November 15th, the British Navy brought up several more large ships and managed to get one of their smaller ones into the shallows between Mud Island and the Pennsylvania Coast. From there the British cannons could fire almost at point-blank range into the fort around the same time. The Americans lost their large Cannon destroyed by enemy fire. They were also used to running through the courtyard of fort to grab British cannonballs, which they needed to fire back at the enemy Commodore Hazelwood attempted to use his Pennsylvania Fleet to support for kathlynn. With most of the officers killed the surviving Hessians ended up fleeing into the woods and made their way back toward the ferry to Philadelphia the New Jersey militia under General silence Newcomb was in a position where they could have run down most of the fleeing sessions and captured them. However lacking direct orders from Washington to attack the enemy know come down to remain in position and do nothing criticism of his lack action would lead to his resignation just over a month later despite the lack of follow-up Fort Mercer approved a great American victory The Garrison reported only fourteen killed and twenty-three wounded you complement the Hessian land attack the British had moved. The Augusta also ran aground but was able to escape after taking severe damage the following day fires still burning aboard the Augusta caused the ship to explode with the loss of crew and off of the ship the failure to take Fort Mercer May General house occupation of Philadelphia even more tenuous. The British were concerned that if they failed to open up the dead air before winter set in and the river froze they could be without sufficient Provisions until spring there was even some discussion of abandoning the city and marching back to New York. The loss also came around the same time as news arrived of General. Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga on the same day as the Battle of Red Bank, October 22nd. General Howe wrote a letter to Lord Jermaine in London saying that he would need many thousands of reinforcements for the following Year's campaign and that they did not appear to be forthcoming how therefore sought permission to resign his command and return to London house resignation was not the result of failing to open.

"Garrison with experience aboard ships to join Commodore hazelwood's on the Delaware River. He also said orders to send more of his men over to Fort Mifflin where Washington's intelligence indicated the attack might occur. It was only a few days before the battle that Washington sent back Angels regiment to supplement the severely depleted Garrison at Fort Mercer at that same time Washington also send a French officer Thomas Antoine a game yet to plessis who had recently arrived in America and received a commission as Captain of artillery du plessis had engineering experience in Washington hoped he could be of assistance in the last minute improvements to Fort defenses. Even with the last minute reinforcements The Defenders of Fort Mercer would be horribly outnumbered by the cash and attack. Wen du plessis arrived. He immediately recognized that the Garrison was far too small to defend a fort that was nearly 350 yards long and a hundred yards wide open a suggested that Colonel green placed the Garrison in a small section at the southern end of the fort then they would build a wall between the two sections since the fort was made birth and walls simply dug up and piled high. It was easy enough to create an interior wall in the northern section. That would be vacated The Garrison built a booties Lounge basically pointy sticks placed in such a way to make it difficult for anyone to move quickly around the area The Garrison took the Wiggles Fruit Orchard to make the Abbot he's dead. The Defenders mounted all their cannons on the southern portion of the fort but kept a few soldiers on the wall of the northern side so that the attackers would not realize that the northern portion had been abandoned on October 22nd has been Colonel Vandana organized his troops into two columns totaling about twelve hundred men. They broke Camp Before Dawn at 3 a.m. To make the Eight Mile march to Fort Mercer, but because the locals had destroyed a bridge that they needed to get to the Fort The Columns had to make a detour and did not arrive until about 1 p.m. That afternoon the Hessians made no attempt at surprised but began to form lines just outside of rifle shot of the fort they sent a messenger to divorce and the surrender of the fort which was refused after that the Hessians launched their assault. As the Americans expected the attackers came over the walls at the Northern end of the fort the first sessions into the fort were surprised that there were no Defenders and they began making her way through the Abbot. He's toward the interior wall that was dividing it from the southern portion. Once the enemy had fully occupied the northern portion of the fort the Americans opened up on them with both cannons and muskets turning the fort into a slaughtering field. The Hessians struggled to maneuver around the Abbot. He's but could not move easily many fell off the few who reached the Southern Wall found that they could not climb it without scaling ladders, which they did not have eventually the survivors pulled back out of the Fort Worth. Up personally led the second column against the southern part of the fort his approach also faced Cannon and musket fire as well as fire from American ships on the river wage. During this assault fun done up fell hit in the leg the remainder of his attackers withdrew. The entire attack had only lasted about forty minutes that happens later reported a total of 371 casualties. However, American reports indicate, the number was closer to 500 among these were more than a hundred killed off right and more than 80 captured among the captured were twenty Hessians found hiding under the Southern Wall. These men did not want to risk retreating Through The Killing Zone again, when the Army withdrew and preferred to be taken prisoner among the wounded.
